Reviews
The hotel has a convenient and safe location, surrounded by great restaurants and attractions. However, the rooms are small, outdated, and often lack essential amenities such as air conditioning, blankets, and towels. The hotel could use renovation and better cleaning services.

Very comfortable beds. Rooms are well-appointed and clean. Kumar and Al at the desk were very helpful. The #8 bus stop located outside the hotel is so convenient. I shall return. Glad to know that they are installing an elevator too.

Identified bedbugs and had to leave to stay elsewhere, staff insistent that the bedbugs were not present and refused a refund.

Despite being assigned a supposedly renovated room, I found dirt and hair in the dresser drawers and shower. There was no TV remote upon arrival, and the smoke detector appeared to be missing entirely, leaving exposed wires hanging from the ceiling and toilet paper stuffed in the hole The room lacked basic amenities, including a phone to contact the front desk and hand towels in the bathroom. With no air conditioning, I opened the windows for fresh air, but cigarette and marijuana smoke regularly entered the room. There are no hand towels other than the shower towels. The most frustrating incident occurred when the water suddenly shut off while I was in the middle of a shower. After going downstairs to inquire, I was told it would be restored within 30 minutes due to a leak. Instead, it took nearly two hours before I could finish showering. The concierge was polite and provided a remote and extra toilet paper when requested. However, the remote only worked intermittently, no apology was offered for the water outage, and I never saw housekeeping or had my room serviced during my two-night stay. Overall, the cleanliness issues, missing safety equipment, ongoing construction, and interruption of basic services made for a disappointing stay.

The building was run down. Walls in the hallway were cracked and broken. Dirty blankets were in the hallway the day I checked in . The next day blankets were still in the hallway. The pictures on website do not look like the place looks like in person. No ac or heater, no parking. I would never stay here again.

It was arguably safer, though not quieter, than staying on the street. VERY LOUD! We were given room 108, which was apparently directly over a nightclub with live music going to 3 am, so most of our night of sleep was lost to the noise. They should not rent out this room on weekend nights. It was very sparsely furnished, which I suppose is expected at the price.

Not recommended, the mattress cover had blood stain, I asked the front desk to change room. They said no extra room and only gave me extra sheet to cover it.not going there any noee

The location was good. I stayed at the hotel for one night and ended up staying and additional night out of convenience. And the rates were pretty good. This last visit I did not have a reservation and was told there was only one room left. Yeah that song and dance. So the first visit the rates were $70 a night this time it was $150 $170 with tax. But I still decided to get the room.. When I get in the room the TV is not working. When I bring it to the attention of the front and ask the question how are you charging the amount and the TV don't even work. And his response was that was them being mighty generous letting me use the tv. microwave and mini fridge because they didn't have to supply those things.

This is a decent hotel to stay at in San Fran. There weren't any specific amenities and it looks like the property is undergoing a renovation. However, the location is great as it is right in the North Beach and Chinatown area, close to the buses for good transport and the staff were friendly and helpful.

Some issues: There was some left over hair and some stains in the bathroom. Few strands of hair and what appears to be food stains in the drawers. Lastly, they forgot to plug in the Dish TV with the TV. I tried to find where to plug it in but was unsuccessful. Bit of a buzz kill but I did bring my iPad and I was more outside enjoying my trip than inside. Now, outside of my room was a different story. I'm aware they're trying to renovate and fix up the place but, the carpets are dirty and it smells like thick smoke all over. Location wise, its located near good restaurants however, personally I would not stay here again.

Nothing at all was good about this place Most disturbing place I ever stayed. Didn’t feel safe and I absolutely Couldn’t sleep! So much noise. You don’t even get a bathroom in your room it was communal, as well as the showers I’m very upset that this hotel was even mentioned, ruined my entire night and morning. There was homeless people living there
- 2/5
The staff was nice, and the room was very clean even though it was tiny. I'd booked a queen bed with a shared bathroom, and got upgraded to a private bathroom for free. The bed was as hard as a rock. It looked to be a cheap mattress on a cheap bed frame, and I could feel every metal bar beneath me. The hallways also smelled faintly of cat urine. The location had a lot of bars and restaurants nearby, so the noise was unavoidable.

Europa is an Awesome hotel but it’s under construction at the moment..Initially I stayed for first two nights on the first floor where I shared a bathroom although I had a sink in my room..Finally for my last day I upgraded to the second floor where my room was totally art deco and modern. I would suggest staying on the second level as it came with my own bathroom.
- 2.5/5
The staff was really nice, and we were able to leave our luggage there for free for the day. The rooms were surprisingly clean and the bed quite comfortable. The smell throughout (entrance, hallway, room) the hotel was horrible. There was also no AC in our room and the sound proofing is really poor (thin walls).

Great staff waited when running late to check in and friendly. Parking in San Francisco is always bad, but they are available public parking lots for pay. My main issue with the hotel is that the toiletries lack, no hand soap, one roll of toilet paper and no floor towel for the bathroom, so when showering floor got wet.

It should be a last resort venue. Most rooms are shared bathroom, although I got a private bathroom which was very small. There’s no ventilation in the rooms and the only window I had pointed towards traffic. The neighborhood is a cool place to be but this place is janky

This is a quality I fully recommend. Pretty big rooms I liked the layout it's also located around lots of other good stores.

the staff is incredibly kind and accommodating! great value and located really well, lots of food and things to do in the area
- 1.5/5
The staff was great! The upkeep was terrible. It looked like they started renovations and then gave up and decided not to follow through. No coffee, hot water for tea, or wash cloths! No elevator, had to carry my suitcases up two flights of stairs.
- 5/5
I love the location. All the staff were so kind and went out of their way to ensure I knew my way around the city. I traveled and stayed here alone and felt super safe. I also loved the view of the blinking books.

Place was very convenient but is under remodels beds not the best . Good view from my room
- 4/5
Staff was nice and talkative, very helpful! We were going for cheap not luxurious so it was very nice for that. It was a small room with a fridge and microwave but keep in mind no AC. Other guests were nice and rarely saw them. The entrance is pretty hidden and you need to walk up a flight of stairs to get to the reception. Felt cozy. The location was perfect though! Right next to Chinatown and a bunch of Italian places. Everything was perfect walking distance if you’re a walker. Everything was fine for the price, just the smell of cigarettes is strong in the hallways and seems stuck there. Overall great stay and budget friendly option! My girlfriend and I would stay again.

yo this place was BAD. bugs EVERYWHERE, not even exaggerating. we stay in the cheapest places we can find any time we come to the city but this was real bad. slept on top of the sheets fully clothed typa bad. highly recommend not staying here if possible. hallways smelled like cigarette smoke, no controls for heater, woke up congested AF
- 5/5
You get what you pay for. By no means was I expecting a grand experience but the room was clean, and the staff were nice and accomodating. I stayed in a queen room with private bathroom for a very reasonable price and I feel like I absolutely got my moneys worth. Nothing inherintly bad to say about this place. The hallways were a little dirty but again this isn't the Mariot. The room was clean so no reason to complain about anything in particular. I can see how some people might say the location is loud but we didn't mind since we were going out to bars and coming back late etc.
- 5/5
love it, people great
- 1/5
When we got to the room, things were even worse. Surfaces felt sticky, fixtures looked damaged, and the window wouldn’t close because it was crooked. It was being propped open with a trash can. The bed was very uncomfortable, and we saw dead bugs near the sink, which was the final straw. We decided not to stay the night. Yes, the location is convenient, but that doesn’t make up for the condition of the hotel. For safety reasons, I would strongly caution anyone traveling with kids or elderly family members. Even the walk to the room felt uncomfortable based on what we saw. We will not be returning.

Room was clean. Hallways/stairs not too good- wear and tear visible. Bathroom/shower area: good size, clean. Shower door didn’t close, water throughout the floor after. Not enough lighting in area, just a wall light fixture overhead the wash sink - bulb out - and the lights on it were not bright - overall fir the price it was okay
- 5/5
Boss Man and staff super helpful and engaging.
- 2/5
Ended up with bedbugs. Location and price were great. Bring a fan just in case bc it gets warm in the night. The actual place itself was okay but bathroom there was leaking water from top (caulking is applied but that’s about it according to one of the staff). Should be cheaper consider these factors

The hotel is in a good location close to the downtown. The public transportation is also available and at walking distance. The staff was friendly and helpful. The shower was really nice with hot water. The rooms look very different from the pictures. I think they need to put the real pictures of the rooms so people know what to expect. In regards of comfort the beds were fine but the pillows very soft and it was uncomfortable to sleep on those pillows. There was noise outside at night and we heard it make a little hard to sleep.

Nothing it was dirty. The first room I had there. The bed fell in. I had to stay in a room with bedbugs. I sat in the chair all night and the next day they put me in another room that had basically just a bed in it. nothing else I want a refund The conditions were deplorable dirty bedbugs. This place needs to be torn down and reconstruct it. I would not advise anyone to stay here.

Beds were comfy! We had a room with a bathroom thankfully. Great place to stay for a good location. If you’re looking for 5 star new hotel this isn’t it. No elevator but max it’s only two flights of stairs. Strip club on the corner so you can hear the bass til about 2 am. Didn’t bother me much but for someone who needs silence to sleep it might be hard. The hotel was quiet everyone was respectful. I would stay here again because the price was very affordable and the location was perfect.
- 4/5
Parking is close go to structure only. It is very noisy. At night due location
- 5/5
I don't mind a room with shared bathroom. As long as my room is close by the bathroom, also the room has its own vanity basin. I enjoy the size of the room, they have a refrigerator and a microwave oven also. The decor is on the older side, yet its still functional. For the price for something you are only going to sleep the nights in, cannot be beaten! Internet is good! Great TV easy to use. Great value for this super popular area, very close to excellent selection of restaurants and fast food establishments. The staff are friendly and kind too!
- 4/5
Did not have a car. Good public transportation
- 5/5
I stayed in room 225, with private bath. it was clean and looked to be newly remodeled. S.F. Is an old city and the buildings are old too, i was expecting an aged room. The hotel looks a little scary from the outside but the room i stayed in was perfectly clean and safe. I will stay there again.
- 4/5
Met my budget expectations. Only annoying thing was the sound of running water all night.
- 5/5
Super friendly staff and provided a free room upgrade as a solution for our booked room not being ready when we showed up

I love this hotel 💕✌

A total disaster. Misrepresented in the Hotels.com app: the pictures were nothing like the real deal. Filthy room, filthy floors, A REAL FLOP HOUSE. Just awful. Advertised airport limo with price per person. I called the night before and spoke with someone at Europa who said, "Just call when you arrive." I did and was told that there was NO LIMO. Out of a score of 1 to 10 I would rate this place a minus 10 (-10).
- 4/5
Everything was okay for the price and great location. There was extremely noisy drunk people shouting with the window open at 4 am but that's not the hotel's fault. Noise was really the only issue but that's just a matter of luck

Online it was advertised that check in could be any time before midnight without advance notice, however when I called they said we must arrive before 11pm or the building would be locked. Room had no fan or AC, and the only window had no screen and opened to a straight drop into the alley. Our nonsmoking room smelled of smoke, and again the only ventilation was the window which was unsafe. The products in the shower were all empty and when I went to ask for some the staff was dismissive and gave me two packets of shampoo because that was “all they had”.

My room was clean, bed comfortable, and staff friendly. A fan was provided for better air circulation.

Very noisy outside makes it hard to sleep, very basic/cheap- no hand towels or shampoo, bed felt like you were sleeping on a slant, we did like their front desk worker, and was in a very convenient area.

Next to Strip club, smelld bad, no ac
- 1/5
Horrendous place with tiny unkempt rooms without air-conditioner and restrooms w/years overdue need of appliances replacement and with cockroaches. The info on Expedia's website about parking is deceiving; there is no overnight street parking and the only available offsite parking opens late w/out exceptions. We had to find a different hotel to leave for the airport early in a morning and they refused to refund us any money for a last night.

The staff here are so friendly with us and really do take care of any concerns we've ever had. This is our home away from home! We both live with roommates so we escape here monthly and never had any issues.

After ten years this is still my favorite place to stay in the city. It’s def not the nicest or the coziest, but the eccentricity and the location make up for that 100%!!! The staff are beyond friendly! The restrooms are always very clean. The restaurants and endless amount of things to do in less than half mile walking distance are endless!!!

I had a deeply unpleasant experience at Hotel Europa. From the moment we arrived, the staff were unwelcoming and rude — and I’m still not sure why. Things escalated when the manager began harassing us and closely watching our every move, which felt invasive and inappropriate. I was falsely accused of smoking in the room — something I do not do. After that, the manager’s aggressive attitude seemed to influence the entire staff. Their behavior quickly became hostile and disrespectful. It was clear we were no longer welcome. I would not recommend this hotel!
- 1/5
The manager was extremely rude & advised me not to book a room here. Manager coerced other staff to be rude. Ive never smoked & manager accused me of smoking
- 4/5
Found a roach in the bathroom, but that is not really a big surprise for me. This is more of an SRO situation, than a traditional hotel setting.
- 4/5
Very close to sightseeings and public transport

I sat down on the bed to put my shoes on, and the bed broke. The front desk REFUSED to call manager to handle situation. He is expecting me to sleep on a broke bed. This place is TERRIBLE, I will NOT be dealing with Europa Hotel or Expedia again.

I most definitely will not ever stay in this hotel again no fans in the rooms , no ac or heat no elevator so it was not easy for me to access. The first night I was there the room next to mine sounded like they had a party until 11 PM. The area was good but this hotel is not worth the cost.

Location, location, location! Hotel is in the heart of North Beach and easy walk to all the best North Beach restaurants, Caffe Trieste, and The Saloon. City Lights book store, Vesuvio, Chinatown,… are stumbling distance. If you need at least an average everyday spot, this hotel is not for you. The bed/room is clean. You sleep in it then go immerse yourself outside the front door!
- 4/5
Affordable stay in a fun area to walk around in town! Saw some riff raff of people yelling outside of their room but hey it’s a cheap place. Communal bathrooms was something i wasn’t looking forward to but they were surprisingly very clean just no hand soap in them. I would stay here again for a cheap stay in SF
- 4/5
The rooms are just rooms but for some reason I enjoy them. The rooms with bathrooms are the best. Beds are usually just a topper. TVs are chill. Internet is iffy just cuz I can't connect with my Xbox.
- 1/5
It looked like it had never been swept, the bathroom was dirt with pee on the toilet, and it smelled so bad in the hallway. The pictures are not at all what it was like.

it does not have hot enough water for shower, The window is of poor single pane quality and the noise from the street prevent me from sleeping. There is no soap or cups

If you want an overpriced stay in a "shoddy" (and thats me being kind) hotel where they cant even be arsed to vacuum the corridor carpets and where the non-smoking rooms reek of smoke, then this is the one for you. The only positive thing I can say is that it sits conveniently between Chinatown and Little Italy. The 2 contacts I had with members of the staff were pleasant enough. Oh! And there's no courtesy bus.

It all comes down to location, location, location. Europa is in a great location, accessible to tons of restaurants, sights, and things to do. Yes, it's older but it's in a great place. Most surpisingly, it's quiet at night. A bonus.
- 3/5
Photo of the property misled me a little, it’s only a door off the walkway. A little tired looking, there were building works in progress but ideal for an overnight, as it was for us. Kindly let us leave our bags in a secure room whilst we went to Alcatraz (20 min walk). Even offered to ring for a taxi when we returned to collect our bags. Good location & plenty of food outlets close by.

The Europa is budget hotel with private and shared bathroom options. It's an older building. However, they keep it super-clean. The shared bathrooms and showers are spotless. The rooms are large with a sink, fridge, microwave, and a large TV with Dish. The staff is really nice and accommodating. There are many dining options literally next door with a plethora of options being on the border of "Little Italy" and Chinatown. It's a few blocks from Coit Tower, the best views of the San Francisco Bay, in my opinion. The oldest running bar in SF is a block away....The Saloon...if you like famous musicians, live Blues players, no cover except weekends and super cheap drinks! Basically The Europa is a spectacular place for medium budget travelers.

Property is basic. Room had small flies. Didn't have toilet paper. I had to request it. Poor ventilation and you can hear noise from other guest.

Amazing staff

Place needs a lot of maintenance, and heaters that are adjustable temperature. Tertible comms pre-check in too
- 3/5
For the price that I paid I really can’t complain. A lot of places to eat nearby and Chinatown across the street. There is only one thing the bed didn’t have a cover just a sheet. At night it was cold.
- 4/5
Italian eatery and Chinatown are close by
- 5/5
The stay itself was amazing, the room was nice and clean, the bathroom has hot showers and a tv to watch from. The hotel is near Chinatown and around some amazing Cafes and restaurants. There was no AC but no problems with that.

Location could not be better! Located right in Little Italy and literally across the street from Chinatown. Downtown is about a 15 min walk (downhill). The property itself is a bit run down-or full of character depending on who you ask. Its a bit like a 1980s hostel. Rooms are small as well. But the price is good and location is perfect. Staff are friendly and helpful too.
- 4/5
Affordable price and conditions good enough for the price
- 3/5
Could not be more convenient location for us! Right in little Italy and across the street from Chinatown. Also walking distance to downtown and the pier (if you don't mind walking 30 min) Very vibrant area! Building itself feels like a 1980s hostel. Rooms were smaller than my bedroom and the sink for the bathroom was not even in the bathroom but in the bedroom. There was a microwave and fridge however and staff were friendly and helpful.

Pretty cozy, not many amenities and you have to pay extra for a both room, but can't beat the price still!

Good customer service

Location location location was awesome! Right in front of China town and two block from little Italy.

Last resort, but it worked out ! Could use some renovations

Very bad bed, very loud and dirty

No good. Bathroom really little

For the price, it’s pretty good. The room and bathroom are clean. I stayed here because it was close to a concert venue. I got what I wanted: a clean and cheap room

I wouldn’t recommend this hotel at all.
- 3/5
Better than I thought it would be. Could be a tad bit cleaner but wasn’t really bad at all.highly recommend Getting a private room with private bathroom. PLEASE INVEST IN AN ELEVATOR
- 5/5
Perfect location and if you just need a bed, hot water, and clean sheets. If you are looking for anything more this is not for you. Staff was really nice and helpful, would totally come back again if/when on a quick trip to the city. The location is the best part about it.
- 5/5
Everything I needed was close by friendly environment

I expected this place to be pretty basic and it did not disappoint on that. The room was clean and I felt safe. While the bed was not the most comfortable and the sheets are pretty thin, the comforter helped. The biggest surprise was that there were no towels in the bathroom and shampoo & bar soap came in plastic pouches. I had to ask the front desk for towels - and they only supplied large bath towels; no hand towels. Great location North Beach and good price. Good if you're ok with a bare bones basic room, no frills, and at a pretty low price.

Check in was fast, room was small but very clean, TV didn’t work and the bed was super uncomfortable, super loud from the springs and no blankets or anything. Great location and fun area, bed was just super uncomfortable and walls were thin. I’d stay again TBH just cause of the location but hopefully get a better bed and TV next time

Not a safe place to stay. Horrible place ever seen.
- 1/5
Worst property I have ever stayed at. The location is decent due to being walking distance to China town and little Italy, but this place is dirty and scary, should be free to stay here for people desperate to find a place to stay
- 3/5
It was cheap but i didnt like it in some ways. The room had not a/c, heater, the bed was old with a spring mattress that was very noisy and uncomfortable. The towels smelled really good and clean.

It's totally bad will never suggest to this property 😕😞

bad staff

This was my second time staying at the Europa. It is the perfect location for my needs and the price is great. It does not have a fancy facade, the entrance and hallways are old and not well maintained and the rooms are very basic. I'm fine with basic and my bed and towels were clean, the bed was comfortable, there was a mini fridge and microwave, tv, wifi everything I need. Don't go there expecting fancy, but if you just need a basic clean place to sleep in a good neighbourhood, it's a great choice. I would definitely stay there again.

Very close to North Beach. You got San Francisco night life. Shared shower room is okay. Better than most other hostels’ shared shower room. Con: Very noice. A street singer singing on the cross street. Lots of traffic made noice. Calm down after 3 AM. No AC. My room’s TV is dead. No blanket. Just a flat sheet on the bed. One time experience is enough for me. Will not come back again.
- 4/5
Hotel is fine but due to its location it's too noisy outside and there's a parking. You need to leave your car at a parking garage that charges by the hour.
- 4/5
The staff was great. However, the room and bedding smelled bad. There were no pillowcases.
- 1/5
Hotel room was very dirty. Hotel staff wasn’t friendly.
- 5/5
The room was perfect for that one night we had to stay.
- 3/5
Worked for what we needed. No frills, very basic. We had a bed, refrigerator, microwave and a private bathroom. No ac, no coffee maker, no chair, and no nightstand. Not a lot of room for your suitcase. The hotel is old, but our room was clean and we were on the quiet side of the hotel so that was nice.
- 4/5
It is the best location. Everything is accesible and centric. Lots of dinning options. Never felt unsafe.
- 1/5
it feels unsafe and there was a construction. smells dirty all over the place.
- 1/5
with filthy window that could not open and facing a dirty, pigeon infested wall. Not even a chair or small table in the room. Cheap bed, old fridge and even older microwave plus cheap shelf. No fan (forget A/C).
- 3/5
Bad bits...currently a building site, rooms are tired and basic but you get a fridge/microwave which saves a fortune. Towels and beds are clean. Showers are hot but its old and basic. I'd stay there again. May not be posh enough for some. No lift, no pool. Staff are helpful
- 3/5
No air-conditioned toilet isn't working well. No elevator. Not for seniors like us..
- 1/5
One of the worst hotels I’ve ever stayed. It was a total mess with bits of plaster on the floor in the hallway, dirty linen on the bed, a view of a trashcan right outside window until I moved room, holes in the wall, dirty shower curtain. Absolutely awful hotel.
- 2/5
It is a Hostel, or at least Hostel-like. Only bath towels provided, and no blankets were on the bed; though blankets they provided when we asked. No soap in any dispensers. Hopefully you bring a fully stocked toiletries bag.construction on property on-going. Staff were nice and easy to talk to.

Showers and restrooms were clean

Stayed one night at Europa Hotel. I booked last-minute and it was nearly the only hotel available because there was a major convention on in the city. That meant I paid an outrageous amount for a very basic room, but it did the job. Pretty basic place but good location and the staff are helpful enough. If it’s cheap then it’s a good option.
