One step above a crack house. First room had dirty walls, dirty floors, cigarette burns on mattress and holes in blanket, so asked to switch rooms. Second room had more of the same(albeit 10% better), so decided to just ask for blankets and towels and brave it. Turns out, the extra blanket we got also had holes and cigareete burns AND they were only able to offer one towel. STAY AWAY!

The people above our room were making noise and it got worse @ 3a, I went down to the front office & there was no one there & the door was locked. I tired to call & no one picked up the phone. I had ro turn on the TV to help drown out the noise. The remote didn't work & you couldn't lower the volume, so I was screwed either way. I went & asked for 2 towels, was given 1 & was told they were waiting for the the laundry service to bring them in. There is a hole in the mattress (I took a picture), where a spring was poking through, so every time I got out of bed it would scrape my leg. The head of the bed was lower then our feet. Look for a better place to stay. So not stay here!

WORST EXPERIENCE EVER! Very disappointing and false advertisement, you cannot even call it a hotel. A lot of homeless person, I didn’t feel safe going to that area. Disgusting place, the room is garbage and bed sheets were not changed and has a lot of holes on it. This place is not proper and should not operate at all!!

I don’t care about the location but inside the hotel it was just dirty, I’m talking about the rooms. When I checked in that was quick and easy now once in the room there were no towels, I had to request them, and there was no tv remote, had to request that too and once I got it I couldn't get the tv to turn on at first but once I did I couldn’t watch anything so that was useless. There are windows in the room but nothing yo look out too which is fine but what my complaint about that is that there was trash and a dirty tampon outside which is gross. Lastly there was no friggin breakfast the door was lock so you had to ring the doorbell but I was doing all that and there was nothing out there so I just walked to a nearby market so overall this stay was sucky, I should be getting part of my money back for the no tv and not having our room ready with towels! And the no breakfast which was the reason for me booking!

TV was off its wall mount and leaned against the wall. Remote had dead batteries. Smoke detector (no battery)was being used as a prop to keep the window open with an Absolute vodka bottle stacked on top for more space. Thermostat was gone leaving the exposed connections on the wall. No towels. No soap. No shampoo. Leftover ice cream popcicle in the freezer. The mini fridge was turned up all the way completely turning the freezer into a giant ice box. Temperature control was stuck inside the ice. Air duct vent on the ceiling falling out, only being held by 1 screw. All of the blankets, sheets and pillows had cigarette burn holes. Even the ones they gave me when I asked for new ones. Wall painting has graffiti on the back of it. 3 light switches by the door, 1 worked for the lights, 1 broken/caved in, 1 did nothing as far as I could tell. Cigarette ash on the inside of the window, lots of garbage and cigarette butts in the outside window ledge. Over all the place was completely dirty and looked like it hasn't been wiped down in years. Floor was sticky and dirty. No continental breakfast. Younger guy who worked the counter was polite. I have photos but they are taking to long to upload.

It is walking distance to the convention center and a lot of places downtown. There are a couple of convenience stores near by too for pocking up staples. The Downtown Market a block away is a great spot that carries almost everything. A police station is just 3 blocks away. Upgrading to a private bathroom wasn't to expensive. I stayed 8 noghts and it was only an extra $80 total for a private bathroom so an extra $10/night to not have to share a bathroom. The room was a bit dirty and the fire alarm was removed. While I had a wondow it was a view of the adjacent building with now way to the street, almost like the building next to it was built after and they squeezed it next to that building. This was my second time staying here and the first time was better. They say there is breakfast, there isn't, the pictures are of only 1 nice room, most rooms look nothing like it. The first time was pretty quiet and easy to sleep, this time some of the other guests would blast music at like 2 in the morning making it hard to sleep. There are a lot of homeless people that stay around that area too so if you are gonna be out late, take ride share or walk in a group.

I didn't like it at all. The service was terrible, and the room was filthy. There were other people's hairs on the shower wall, the sheets were torn and stained, there were huge cobwebs on the walls, holes in the walls, and you could hear everything, even a homeless person sleeping in the hallway. We went down to complain, and they told us to change rooms. The one they gave us was even worse, with cigarette burns in the bedspread. They said they would talk to Booking.com, accept our complaint, and refund our money, but as soon as we left, they told Booking.com they weren't going to refund us anything. The solution they offered, besides changing rooms, was for us to leave the hotel at 11 p.m., on a street full of homeless people. Everything, it was an awefull experience, you can read all the details here: I didn't like it at all. The service was terrible, and the room was filthy. When we returned to our hotel the room smelled like cigarettes and blinds were open this hotel was a nightmare

Do not book! The pictures shown of the room must be the 1 and only nice room. The room I recieved was very different than pictured, dirty, smelled like pot and meth because there are literally drug users 24/7 outside the front of the hotel smoking and fighting. Even inside the hotel, I had a girl camp in the hollway and block my door. I will post pics of the actual room and the users outside my window if i can. Big sign behind counter as you check in says no refunds at any time. I visited all over san francisco. This is definately the worst neighborhood i encountered. Police station not more than a block away, but they didnt do anything. Staff was friendly, probably the best part of that hotel. Needs to be gutted and renovated. Missing fire alarms, wires hanging out of the wall. Looks like there was a fire in my room at some point. No attempt to even clean it up or paint over it. Just left it. The bed sheets seemed clean. I quadruple checked for bed bugs. Highly recommend to stay anywhere else. You will thank me later.

Horrible. My bed still had the sheets of the last person! Clearly dirty, disgusting smelly sheets with tobacco in the sheets! Huge burn holes in the sheets and pillow cases. Reeked of cigarette, super fresh from the last person. A smoked cigarette sitting on top of the headboard which would have fallen down if they’d changed the sheets or have been thrown away if they cleaned the room at all. They simply made the bed, that’s it. I had to go down the front desk, ask for sheets, and change them myself. Horrible area. Graffiti all over the walls. No screen in the windows and no AC, flying bugs because if it. No soap or paper towel in the bathrooms. Torn up box spring. Disgusting microwave with no plate in it and filled with old bits of food. Hadn’t been clean in forever. Nasty. Terrible experience.

Unfortunately, the entrance of the hotel is completely surrounded by the local homeless and a drug users crowd that interacts in the 16th BART station. Fortunately there are a daily police scheduled 24hs to make you feel secure. The hotel is very clean and the staff is cordial and extremely friend. Oli and her husband are excellent on sharing all information and making your stay a really pleasurable. The room are clean up on a daily business and a set of towels are provided as well. I was quite impressed of how they keep every floor clean and coffee are provided daily and a microwave is available to all on the reception. The bedrooms are small but clean with a brand new TV provided with cable and good WiFi! The bathrooms are shared but it’s again impressive CLEAN! I really would like to emphasize that they rooms are pretty quite during the evening s. My husband and I plan on return to San Francisco more often and we plan on staying o this hotel again because we loved the easy access to transportation and walk distance to restaurants, bars, pizza, you name it!

If you a heavy sleeper and don’t wake up to the receptionist arguing with the homeless at 3am that are right outside the hotel and just for a place to sleep and completely ok people under the influence coming in you should come here. The Bay Hotel is surrounded by homeless people and drug users (even in the door). It is not possible to open the hotel door and go out. The smell - both from the weed smoking and urination - is very harsh that it is very difficult to walk on the foot path. Sometimes, it is very scary and not possible to go out after dark. Room and toilet are dirty. In the deep or midnight, the mentioned homeless people on the road are shouting that continuously disturb the entire sleeping. Smell of smoking inside the hotel is also very harsh even suffocating. It is clearly mentioned that breakfast is included but not provided. I strongly feel that they are doing knowingly. Even though, they mention to remove from the webpage, it still appears in the page. This is my first time to drop review or feedback in this way or platform. I strongly feel that I should drop the lines is that other fellows may avoid from such experience or they would book at least knowingly. I wish that I should experience such stuff again.

Then called hotels.com and they called the owner and he lied and said there was no noise. I then walked in the hallway to prove the ongoing noise to Hotels.com and prove the noise was ongoing. Further more, there was a leak from the ceiling from a shower above... And they only give you a one towel! They offered no refund, and then at checkout they said they didn’t remember my deposit and had me waiting to refund my deposit while the taxi was patiently waiting. This place is not a 2 star hotel, it’s a slum!

Upon arrival and inspecting the room and the bed we immediately booked an alternative motel and left. The bed was dirty and had a cigarette burn hole in the bottom sheet. The room was in poor condition and the motel is in a terrible area with numerous drug addicts directly outside and around the location.

Room was generally clean, there was a little stains on the towels, otherwise the room was clean. There was damage to the sink in the room so needed to be careful not to cut self when using. The room did not have any aircon so did get humid in the room. Staff were polite and accommodating in general. The biggest issue with this property is on the outside. The street seems to be a popular congregating place for the use of drugs. Upon arrival there must have been 20 people on the street doing drugs, their behaviour was erratic and on occasions violent. I did not feel safe going outside and I was apprehensive about them coming in as there were a couple occasions where someone would bang on the window/door. Ultimately I would not stay here again, having explored the city a bit I would recommend a place down near the piers felt much safer around here.

The pros of this hotel: close to public transportation, lots of things in walking distance & if you’re in town for Folsom Street fair it’s walking distance. I go to 24hr Fitness & there was a gym within walking distance. Cons: No guests, I was not informed of this “rule” until the 2nd day of my stay. Again, I was in for FSF weekend so this added a damper. Homeless people, the perimeter of the hotel is blocked by homeless people which is intimidating & made me feel unsafe at times. Shared bathroom, the bathroom at the end of the hall of the 3rd floor was terrible. The outlets didn’t work, the toilet is extremely close to the shower & there was no one to but my toiletries. Can clearly hear neighbors, the way my window was positioned I was about to hear my neighbors conversations as clear as if they were speaking directly to me. Dirty towels, my towels were dirty & had black spots No ac No extra lock, there’s no extra lock attachment No parking No rack to hang towels, they provide a sink in the room but there’s nowhere to hang towels or clothes No one replaced my trash during my 4 day stay

This place is in tenderloin and a lot of homeless hangs around right at front. While i survived, i realized i should have read the reviews. It’s a relatively inexpensive place. Next to Bart train so that’s why I got it. But the location and surrounding really sucks. The room smells and the bed has blood stains… get what you pay for… would not recommend.

The room itself was dire. We had a single window facing an interior space, which I thought would be nice to avoid the street noise, but it actually made the room unbearably hot even though it was *cold* outside. Running the provided fan didn't help. It also had a really heavy smoke smell for a smoke free room that actually made my eyes burn a little. The bathroom seemed clean enough. The bed's sheets had a bunch of threads popping out and were thin, but there weren't bed bugs. The man at the front desk was nice. I did, however, end up getting a different hotel over by the Marina. I've done cheap hotels, but this was too much for me.

Honestly, the place felt unsafe and poorly run from the start. The front desk clerk told me their machine was “broken” and tried to get me to go grab cash from an ATM for the deposit. When I came back, he suddenly had “no rooms left” and didn’t even remember my situation clearly. To top it off, the cash deposit had magically gone up by $20. Total scammy vibes, not trustworthy at all.

The photos of the hotel are not accurate. The rooms do not look like that at all. Absolutely filthy conditions in the room and in the bathroom. Beware they charge you a $20 deposit when you get there. When I went to check out early in the morning, no one was in the lobby And I had to leave. So I did not get my $20 back. The sidewalk outside of the hotel is packed with homeless people with trash, The and urine everywhere. Dirty bedding, holes in the walls, terrible odors throughout the entire building. Do not stay at this property!

I didn’t like anything there. The street was dirty, inside was dirty, the room was completely filthy, and there was a smell like dead rats. And I didn’t like anything at all. There just aren’t even words for it in Kazakh. Everything was really bad. There was no service at all. They don’t speak English — or barely do — but you still can’t understand anything. Overall, everything was really bad.

Disliked · It appears this establishment isn't a traditional hotel, as there seem to be semi-permanent residents. My room on the third floor had no real view—unless you're fascinated by the neighbor's sink and mirror (I wasn’t). The walls were paper-thin, and I could hear EVERYTHING...no further details necessary. The remote for the 32-inch TV didn’t work, and I was given just two towels: one face towel and a larger hand towel—but nothing that resembled a proper bath towel. The bathroom sink was clogged and never fixed. There were about six holes in the walls—one stuffed with tissue—which was unsettling. The microwave was missing its turntable plate, leaving only the roller ring. The fridge reminded me of the ones you'd find in a lab. Most concerning: the smoke detector was missing entirely, with exposed wires dangling from the ceiling, bringing the total hole count to seven.

I booked 3 hotels on this site. The first 2 hotels looked like a good deal until we were told we had to share a bathroom with other hotel residents and were located in the worst part of the city. Transients were piled up in front of the property and up and down the street. I was afraid to get out of the car since most of them were arguing with themselves while mucus spewed from their noses and mouth. The advertisement did not include sharing a bathroom. Horrible is an understatement.

The walls are extremely thin — you can clearly hear people taking showers, climbing the stairs, and even loud noises from the street throughout the night. The lack of sound insulation made the stay even more unpleasant. To make matters worse, it took us almost 30 minutes to check out in the morning because the front desk was closed. After a long wait, someone finally emerged from a back room, clearly just waking up and still yawning — and this was at 9 a.m.

The room I got did not have air conditioning, the walls were broken and patched up, the floor was not clean and sticky with dust on the floor. The bathroom was not completely clean, the shower area did not have any railings or counters to keep any toiletries. The towels given were bad and had steins on them. I requested for exchange and even the exchanged ones were not good. The room had a fridge that was half functional, a microwave that was smelling bad and a TV that did not work. It would have been ok if they did not have these, as opposed to having them at such conditions. Also, what was the minimum excepted that the rooms are neat. The cleaning was not done on a daily basis and when asked I was told that you have to pay tips if you wanted that. They cleaned my room once for a period of stay of 5 days and even after cleaning it was bad. (See the photos attached). The worst part was people smoking weed from other rooms and people were so noisy in other rooms and my room start reeking of the weed smell on the last day. The manager and I went and asked people not to smoke and I was asked to keep my room open to let the smell go away 😳

Rough neighborhood. Screaming people outside and in the hallway made sleeping extremely difficult. I had multiple people try to come into my room in the middle of the night. Eventually, someone started banging on my door while jimmying the handle. I had to jam the chair infront of the doorhandle for an extra layer of security. Sheets were dirty, overall a layer of stickiness on everything in the room...it just felt grimy. I only stayed one night of my two night reservation because of how unsafe I felt. Owner refused to refund the 2nd night because I didnt tell him about the issue until after the fact, but it felt too unsafe to leave my room at the time it was happening.

The location is terrible, so many homeless people in large groups outside made it feel very unsafe and I can’t even describe the smell. I had to get taxis straight from the door to where I needed to go, luckily it was only for one night. I suspect the homeless are using this hotel as it’s so cheap. They are either partying or arguing in the corridor until at least 4am. It feels very unsafe, I didn’t sleep. The room itself came with dirty bedding, bath sheets and a horrible smell. HONESTLY PLEASE pay the extra and go somewhere clean, safe and comfortable. I waited until it went quiet in the corridor and left as soon as I could in the early hours.

The continental breakfast was good it included several drink choices( coffee, milk, orange, cranberry and lemonade juice) and cereal or toast. They also provided a once use toothbrush and toothpaste. There's are homeless around that area and can be noisy.

After my stay here I learned the surrounding area (Tenderloin) is not a safe neighborhood, many unhoused people, loud music, and sirens through the night. Guest in another room yelled literally the whole night, the police arrived in the morning after a fight broke out. No staff was present the whole night or in the morning at when I left. I had an important meeting and had to cancel due to lack of sleep. I was suppose to stay for the weekend, canceled and found a new hotel. After following up with hotel staff I was told “I have no control over what guests do, it’s Friday people party and drink”. We had a no smoking room but there were cigarettes outside on the window sill. The picture of our room with private bathroom makes the room look nice but don’t be fooled! If you’re from Los Angeles this is the equivalent to staying in Skid row. I asked the hotel for a refund and they denied my request, I am waiting on Expedia to respond. Don’t make the mistake I made, specially if traveling with your children!

This is as best as you’re going to get in San Francisco in summer peak tourism with privacy instead of a hostel. The only drawback I see is there’s only a fan so if it’s one of those rare once a year 100 degree days in San Francisco you’ll be hot as the room is already warm at night which most women would probably like but guys will heat up. You have to park a mile away unless you want to pay $31 a night at the garage next door. Theres no private bathrooms but that wasn’t an issue for me

There are a few items that could be added to the property that would increase a lot of my ratings. The ability to have heating in the room that we can control, additional blankets, cleaner showers (some smelled of urine), and a more improved continental breakfast. The breakfast for example had milk jugs and orange juice containers that looked like they were pulled from a shared family fridge. Nothing looked fresh and there was always limited supply of items. In summary, I would still probably stay again because of the price and the close proximity to many big things in the city. Knowing what I know now, I would bring my own items to make myself feel more comfortable but the breakfast could defintley be kicked up a notch since it’s offered as a benefit of choosing this hotel.

The property is not in a very good location there were lots of homeless people in the vicinity so at night it did not feel safe. The hotel itself was not great the towels although were clean were dirty looking. We had our own bathroom and although it was clean it wasn't great. The window looked at a brick wall and other rooms it was incredibly noisy at night either other residents or neighbours but the noise went on loud music and shouting until about 3am and then started up with banging doors at 6am. We didnt pay a lot for the room but it was very badic.

Photos are not real. This place is a scam. The actual space is just SROs. Towels were dirty, food containers left in the microwave, damaged outlets, window in bathroom completely open when we arrived. The box spring was covered in stains I do not wish to remember. Floor was absolutely filthy, and the shower sprayed directly into the toilet, there was no curtain and just a drain in the floor. The neighbourhood tenderloin is definitely not for tourists.

The bathroom is a shared bathroom. Shared with 11 other rooms per floor. It was disgusting. We showered with shoes on because the floor was so gross. We had to go buy soap because there wasn’t any in the restroom. The rooms were also disgusting. The bed frame is white, but covered in stains. The little table in the room is sticky. All the floors of the hotel had a fire extinguisher box with no extinguisher in it!! So unsafe and against code. It isn’t a great area, but we knew that going into it. Just expected it to be cleaner and at least safe. The check-in guy didn’t talk at all, but was kind when I asked for another towels.
