I loved my stay, the staff was super helpful (cleaning staff.) It was a decently sized room with a bay window and such a cute aesthetic. I was able to reach out to customer service easily, and had very few issues. The proximity to Dolores park and being able to uber everywhere was also a plus. Only downside is the drug abuse happening on the street but that’s pretty much every downtown.

The bed was comfortable and the sheets were clean. I liked how easy it was to check in and out of the property. I also liked the complimentary tea and the cute courtyard outside. There is no housekeeping after 3 so it gets pretty messy after that time. I decided to skip the shower when I got back for the night because it was obvious the communal shower had in no way been serviced for hours. The same dirty laundry that was there when I left in the late afternoon was there when we came back pretty later at night. There were instructions on how to keep the shower clean on the wall, but no laundry basket and not even a little disinfectant to wipe things down after each use. The hallways were also dirty at the end of the the night. I was not aware of how bad that area is with people who stay up all night hanging out on the street. It was impossible to sleep thru the night because there was people outside screaming and dragging things loudly on the pavement all day and all night.

Even worse, the app to get into the building kept breaking, and half the time they don't answer the phone, so you're just stranded on the the street. When I did finally talk to someone, he kept telling me I was doing something wrong, which I wasn't. When he finally got it to work, I asked him "how do we keep this from happening again" and his response was "I don't know man, that's above my pay". You will get stranded in an incredibly unsafe part of town, locked out of your hotel on the streets at midnight with no one to help you. RUN!!!!

The properties shared bathrooms were always clean and surprisingly never too busy, I was able to shower and use the restroom whenever I needed to. The rooms were small, but if you’re planning to do something most of your days it isn’t too bad. One of my friends said she liked it enough to stay again. I read about the homeless in some of the other reviews, I did not think too much of it until we arrived. If you have children I wouldn’t stay here. Walking down the street we had homeless trying to argue with us. Always veer left when coming out the front door, never right, huge difference. The rooms carpets and drapes were visably dirty, with god knows what. Our room was very warm at nigh, we’d wake up sweating in our sleep.

The shared kitchen/common area was super practical since I didn’t want to eat out, and everything was kept very clean. The location in the Mission is vibrant, full of restaurants and cafés. I had read mixed things online about safety, but during my stay I felt comfortable and secure, even at night. Rooms are simple and bathrooms are shared, but well maintained. Since it 's in a vibrant neighborhood, street noise can pick up a bit at night.

As a regular guest in the Mission District, I was excited to try 1906 Mission for the first time, and it certainly exceeded my expectations! The building itself is nice, blending charm with modern amenities. I appreciated the shared bathrooms, which were always clean and never crowded during my stay. The fast Wi-Fi was a huge plus, allowing me to complete some work tasks efficiently. The communal space provided a great atmosphere for both productivity and socializing with other guests. I also enjoyed using the shared kitchen on the first floor, which was well-equipped and a perfect spot for preparing my morninf breakfast. The location is incredibly convenient, just a short walk from the BART station, making it easy for me to visit one of my SF clients. I found the OpenKey smart lock technology to be a fantastic feature, adding an extra layer of convenience to my stay. Overall, I had a wonderful experience at 1906 Mission and will definitely be booking this property regularly for my future visits. Highly recommended! I hope the area will keep improving!

The room gets hot and is difficult to ventilate. The best way is to open the window and prop the door, so the breeze from the hallway passes through the window, but this takes time and is insecure when one is trying to sleep. The bed also gets hot where you sleep on it. The amount of blankets is excessive for summer.

There is a communal kitchen area with complimentary water, tea, and coffee, which was nice.

The last day I experienced what a few others did where the virtual key stopped working. I was unable to get back into the building despite more than an hour left until my checkout time. Calling the hotel number no one answers, and you can’t leave a message as the mailbox is full. I had to wait until someone else left and tailgate in to grab my stuff and leave. Inside the hotel a a bit rundown but overall ok. The bathrooms are very small and are cleaned once a day, which depending on usage is ok or not enough. The showers were very clean and well maintained. The back patio “ambiance” is a joke.. you hear homeless yelling randomly and the smell of urine.

Nice house keeper, quite clean AWFULLY COLD- we stayed for 4 nights during April and it was so cold at night I got fever, sore throat and cough the next morning. No heaters or ac, old windows make it unbearable windy. I was not even able to do all the touristic stuff- just spent the whole time in bed with fever and cough. Granted it's no frills, but it's location is wonderful, the room was clean and the shared bathrooms were not really "shared" but rather individual use bathrooms that were shared with the floor. I really enjoyed my stay at 1906 Mission - it was easy to find, in a convienent part of town, the showers/bathrooms were always clean, and I didn't have an issue with the electronic locks until the last day. Check out isn't until 11 AM, but the app access stops at 10:30 AM. I went across the street to grab a coffee and was locked out of the building for a good 10 minutes until a member of the cleaning staff heard me pounding on the door. Overall great stay, but getting locked out caused a lot of unnecessary stress, would be great if the app worked until 11 AM on check out day.

Such a cool, weird, cozy hotel. We never saw any staff members, but someone picked up the phone immediately when I had a question about parking. The facility was quiet, and the beds were very comfortable. I would definitely stay again.

The staff member is extremely rude. When I was asking for clarifications on the checkout policy, the staff member literally told me to "just get the f out" because I was asking questions. Do not live here. You will NOT have a good experience.

Location is so central, it's awesome. Everything is right outside the door. The place is super clean - the staff is on top of it. The only thing i suggest is that the rooms need furniture - a chest of drawers makes a weeklong stay so much easier. I'm OCD, and my stuff was all over the place - made me anxious! haha

What I didn't like was the street the property was on and the immediate area. There were quite a few homeless individuals in front of the front door and nearby periodically. The sidewalk out front is basically a flea market on the weekends for a block and a half in either direction, where you literally have to step over and around people and their stuff spread out all over the ground. It smelled and was dirty, with trash all over the street and sidewalk, and we felt uncomfortable walking to and from the property.

The room has no air con so it was boiling all the time. The windows open but no air flow. The area is sketchy sketchy sketchy!!! No single female should stay in this area. As for the place. Staff were friendly. Constantly cleaning. I would not stay here again purely based off the area surrounding it. Just unfortunately far too many homeless, mentally ill, and drug users on the streets surrounding this hotel.

I was worried about staying here after reading some review de área being unsafe and dangerous. The week I stayed in January 2023 was unusually extra extra expensive in San Francisco due to a big conference taking over hotel reservations all over the city si this was my only choice.. the experience was very good. The area is not unsafe, some people selling second hand stuff in the street but not threatening in any way. It’s very close to the subway and there are amazing shops, restaurants and the Roxie film theatre just 2 blocks away. The rooms are small and you have to share a bathroom but in the whole week I stayed there I never once had to wait. The bathroom is spotless and there are plenty of towels and shower gel at all times. It’s almost instantly cleaned after every use. I was very pleasantly surprised. Free coffee in the morning. I’d strongly recommend that you download the key app in advance. It was a seamless experience for me, but I had to send a WhatsApp message on the day to get my contactless key activated. Also make sure you take your phone to the bathroom as otherwise you won’t be able to get back into your room. Make sure you have plenty of battery before returning at night because you need the phone to access hotel

The staff was nice, there was one thing that really made the stay uncomfortable - there was NO HEAT. I got back to the hotel around midnight to sleep and I couldn't see any control for the heat, there was no staff, and I had to wear my clothes in bed so I could stop shivering. I looked everywhere for a control of the heat, but there was none. The hallway was also very cold. The other thing is they have 100s of shampoo and conditioner but no body wash or soap.

First of all, our digital key did not unlock our door. Housekeeping had to open it and the key they used ended up getting stuck in the door. They then called maintenance and it took about 45-60 minutes for them to fix this door issue. My friend and I sat on the bed as they did this and received no accommodations. There also seemed to be no AC in the rooms. A housekeeper knocked on the door in the morning before check out and we stated we were still in the room loud enough for her to hear, yet she proceeded to still unlock the door and try to come in. The cherry on top is there was no one at the front desk, and when we called to ask about AC, the manager or whoever answered the phone said no one was in the building to help us. Overall this hotel is in a shady part of town and has horrible service.

It is a bit sketchy outside with the number of people hanging outside of the property selling stuff and being loud during late evening hours. Having said that, the hotel is jept spotlessly clean, quiet and nice smart contemporary decir. The staff were great and very responsive. The bed was very comfortable and the shared bathrooms and shower rooms were well appointed and always gleaming. There is a nice little patio area in the back. A BART station is less tha a block so smAFO is onky a half hour away. And there are some very good restaurants within a few blocks on Valencia street. The rooms are not huge, but when I am in San Francisco i am not there to spend any time in my hotel other than to sleep in a comfortable bed in a very clean room. I'd rather spend the money that I'd spend in an expensive hotel on some of the great restaurants and clubs in San Francisco. If you want clean, a great location for transportation all over the Bay Area, friendly staff check it out.

Pleasant surprise is a complimentary light continental breakfast each morning. The actual hotel building seems not to match the photo that the hotel's advertisement displays. Restrooms are separate from the room - 2 small lockable stalls per floor level: inconvenient for a guest who needs frequent usage, as one must get fully dressed before each use. Lockable shower stalls are also remote, adjacent to - but not integral with - the remote restrooms. But they are pleasant, attractively-designed, spacious and well-appointed. Still, all of that separation can be off putting. Hotel room itself is pleasant, although noise from the adjoining street is substantial, which explains the presence of ear plugs on the table. The hotel is located on Mission Street, a busy, congested and perhaps "grungy" thoroughfare with heavy bus/vehicular traffic. The sidewalk adjacent to the hotel was used for an urban flea market during the mornings. Fortunately, the guest rooms are in upper floors.away from pedestrian traffic. The hotel uses app-based keyless entry for both external-door access and internal access to one's own hotel room. That keyless entry works well for guests who normally use multiple apps on their mobile phones, but may not be practical for guests whose mobile phone skills are less advanced.

ONE block from the BART station, Valencia and all of it's awesomeness right around the corner, definitely make up for kinda sketchy Mission out front. It's not a hotel-hotel so you wouldn't get a lot of additional amenities, but if you just need a small place to stay while you roam around, then it's perfect. Rooms are tiny, maybe 8x6 feet, but bathroom is quite clean and has a cute patio space outside.

My room was small as you'd expect for this price, but it was bright and pleasant and nicely decorated, and plenty of space to hang clothes and put things away. Very quiet too; I never heard any slamming doors or noise from other guests. The shared bathrooms and shower rooms were very clean and well-maintained, and they supply each guest with a bathrobe and slippers. The bed was very comfy and the linens were spotless. I would stay there again and would recommend it to friends.

The location is great - one block from the BART station so easy access from SFO. The neighbourhood can be a bit dodgy (especially at night) but it's cool to be in a less touristy locals hood, close to great coffee shops/restaurants plus all the street art. Never had issues or to wait for the restrooms/showers. The shower rooms are very comfortable! I would definitely stay here again my next visit to SF.

This is actually more like a bed & breakfast. The bathrooms are at the end of the hall, but they are very clean and attractive. You also get a robe to wear en route. The management wants to create a community of its guests, so when you go to breakfast, you can meet some interesting people from around the world. We really enjyed this, but if you want to minimize interactions with strangers, this is not the right hotel (or city) for you.

The rooms, while small, were very well kept and the shared bathroom facilities for very well managed and clean. All of the front desk staff were very friendly and helped point me in the right direction if I was looking for something to do or seeking service providers for things like laundry. I would definitely stay again and recommend it to anyone wishing to stay in the Mission district.

Fantastic hotel, delicious free breakfast, excellent public transportation, great public patio. Restrooms and showers are separate to rooms, but this wasn't a problem at all. Amazing staff. Great amenities. Definitely staying here the next time I'm in SF.

This was my first time at a hostel and was pleasantly surprised. The room was perfect, not too big and easy to keep tidy. It really is a place to sleep after a day of activities. The bed was comfortable which is extremely important. Rooms were tidied everyday if you wished. Sharing bathrooms was a new experience but every floor had two shower rooms and two bathrooms. They were keep spotless but users have to participate in keeping it clean as well. This was not a problem. The breakfast foods were perfect and offered a nice variety for everyone. Innovative seating area made for a collaborative environment and meeting other hotel guests and chatting with hotel staff. The homeless situation in San Fran is extensive and not exclusive to any area but some areas will see more due to their proximity to services and the downtown. The hotel is near such an area but used public transit and never felt at risk but exercised caution in the evening being a lone person.

We arrived to the hotel with a quick check in process. The room was a bit tiny but such a cute chic retro/contemporary design if you will. The bed was super comfy with even a sound speaker that always helps my BF to fall asleep at night. There are shared bathrooms and shower. BUT they were never in use when I needed them and the shower area was uber clean always!! The toilet areas are single rooms which is nice to have your privacy when needed. they have nice flavored water available all the time and a nice continental breakfast for the mornings. Overall our stay was great!

We had a fantastic stay! The hotel staff was very kind, helpful, and friendly - they made us feel so welcomed. The Mission district has different types of restaurants, cafes, and shops and although there are people hanging around on the streets during the day, we didn't feel unsafe. Might want to avoid walking around at night, though. We'd definitely stay at this hotel again!

Very clean rooms and facilities, staff are friendly and accommodating. But the shared bathrooms were very frustrating and the location isn't the nicest area. Especially when considering the price.

First of all, all staffs are very kind. At first I was afraid of shared bathrooms and restrooms. But they were always keeping clean. Other stuffs including my room and reception desk were great too. Best location. Easy to access muni and bart. Good experience and i want to stay later again.

My stay at 1906 was great. The room was very clean and comfortable. The bathrooms and showers are all shared between guests, so be aware. They were all immaculately maintained. The staff was super friendly and helpful. Free breakfast was a great plus and there are always snacks, flavored water and tea available. Highly recommend!

This was a one day stay in the city during our ten day leave from the US Navy. The location is one of the best that I have ever stayed at with some of the best staff. Though the neighborhood is not known to be the best, the location seems safe and we will be staying here again.
