Reviews
The Westgate Hotel is a well-kept, luxury hotel located in the heart of downtown San Diego, with a classic, elegant ambiance. Guests consistently praise the helpful and friendly staff, the spacious rooms, and the excellent location for walking to nearby attractions. However, some guests express concerns about the surrounding area, particularly the presence of homeless individuals, and a few mention that the hotel is starting to show its age.
- Helpful and friendly staff
- Spacious rooms
- Surrounding area with homeless individuals
- Hotel showing signs of age

Very close to the San Diego convention center (I was there for a graduation). The valet could use some help though. The process was confusing for check out and when I went to pick up my car. The valet at the time were rude saying I should have been given a ticket to pick up my car, but I was never given a ticket dying valet check in. I may not be back even though I used to brag to everyone about this hotel and amenities

Easy check in and check out! Will always stay at Westgate Hotel when we come to San Diego.

I love how spacious the room was! Bathroom was gorgeous. Staff was helpful and accommodating!

We had a wonderful stay at the Westgate Hotel. Although our room wasn't quite ready when we arrived, the staff went above and beyond to make us feel welcome. They graciously allowed us access to the pool while we waited, and it turned out to be one of the highlights of our trip. The pool area is absolutely incredible—easily our favorite hotel pool experience. It felt like a resort oasis and was the perfect place to relax and enjoy the day. If you're staying here, the pool is truly a must-see. To top it off, the hotel surprised us with a complimentary bottle of wine for the inconvenience of the delayed room. That thoughtful gesture really demonstrated their commitment to guest satisfaction and hospitality. The staff was professional, accommodating, and genuinely cared about making our stay enjoyable. We left feeling appreciated and well taken care of. We would absolutely stay here again and highly recommend the Westgate Hotel to anyone looking for a memorable and relaxing experience.

The hotel decor makes you feel like you are in a palace somewhere in Europe. Very luxurious and in the middle of a busy city. The staff is engaging and Sarah is definitely one of the great employees working there. She recommended a nice restaurant during our stay and made us feel so welcomed. I would definitely stay here again.

Great gem in downtown San Diego. Convent location and staff extremely helpful. Don't miss the restaurant Bonne Vie Brasserie and the roof top pool and bar.

I like the style of the hotel, the service was excellent. I would recommend it to anyone who wants to go to San Diego and have a place to stay. I would love to go back there for the weekend. Thanks

An amazing hotel. The staff was exceptional. The rooms were beautifully decorated & spacious. I felt like I was in Paris based on the hotel aesthetic, instead of in San Diego. Highly recommend.

Don’t stay over the metro tracks. Loud at night
- 3/5
The majority of the staff members were genuinely kind, welcoming, and very helpful throughout our stay, especially with storing our luggage before and after checkout due to our late flight schedule. Once we got into the room, which were very big and spacious, there were some maintenance issues. The shower drain barely worked, and by the end of a shower the water was up to your knees. The sink also drained extremely slowly. That being said, the AquaVie Spa attached to the hotel was excellent and honestly one of the highlights of the stay. It was really nice to freshen up there before our flight, and the facilities were beautiful. Two things worth mentioning while I understand this is outside of the hotel’s control: there was a large homeless encampment directly next to the hotel, which was uncomfortable and unexpected. Also, all night long you just hear the horn of the train almost consistently. They provide earplugs for you to use bc of this.

The Staff was very nice from the valet to front desk, to the bartender. The hotel and room were beautiful and clean. I just don’t know that I would book there again. Wife and I checked in late, we were very tired from a night out, all we wanted to do was get some sleep, unfortunately the room we stayed in was on the same side as the Metro Station and it made a loud noise every 25-30 minutes. The funny thing is we saw ear plugs in the room for the guests didn’t catch on till later that night. Second night went back to the room very late because we had attended a wedding, didn’t have time to change rooms that I wish we had, needless to say we checked out early. My personal opinion find another place to stay, if you want to get some sleep.

- 3.5/5
Nicely decorated and fairly comfortable. Loved a shower that had very good flow. The bathroom brass fixtures really needed polishing. I feel like the parking fees are a ripoff at $52 a night and self parking is not allowed. Also, a bottle of water in the room was $7. So it seems whatever they’re not making on the room rates, they make up for it in other ways.

The Westgate is in a great location, central to all things San Diego for easy touring. The rooms are large and spacious, with ample furniture. The access to the health club and roof top pool huge bonuses
- 5/5
The Westgate is a upscale high rise hotel downtown. The flight crews stay there. It's safe to walk around at night and there are a lot of restaurants within walking distance. I parked my car at the hotel and took Uber everywhere. Uber arrives in a couple minutes. The lobby is very ornate with Victorian decor and huge chandeliers. My premium room was large. The hotel has bars by the lobby and by the pool. There is a restaurant and room service. The staff is very good. Only critique is a little microwave in the room would have been nice.

- 2/5
It’s very expensive with parking fees, I was there for 3 nights and only parking fees was $260. Not included in the room booking. Valet was frustrating, took 10 minutes for us to get our car. The room is very outdated. Honestly the price we paid was not worth it at all. I wasn’t aware of how the fees for the parking was going to be. I’m getting notifications from my bank at 1:30 am telling me that the hotel charged me a different amount every night. I called the front desk to clarify it and felt very ignorant afterward. I did not receive my hotel deposit back at all even when I asked about the parking fees the first night. It’s too much money for a very outdated hotel.

The hotel is very nice, the staff is great and the rooftop pool was a fantastic place to relax. It’s in a nice area so you can walk to restaurants and shops. Huge downside is that it is directly next to the train and you can hear the horn and announcements from the train at all hours. I’m not sure if staying in a different part of the hotel would be less noisy but I found it really disruptive. Maybe try requesting a quieter area of the hotel.

Bellman Franky is a delight. I’ve even had him show up and deliver complimentary drinks and artisanal chocolates without being promoted to. And when I have ordered room service, he showcases the dishes and prepares the beverages with charming panache. There’s a young male / female duo that mans the lobby adjacent bar on Thursdays & Saturdays—they’re a fun combo. Both in suspenders and slacks. The young lady is more A-type and deliverable-focused, the young man (who’s actually slighter than her) is coolly laid back and a bit more conversational. Either approach in isolation might not hit right, but in harmony it’s an enriching experience in my book. During this stay the San Diego Opera Society held their meet up in the aforementioned bar; and thus I was treated to a beautiful woman in a killer burgundy dress belting out in Italian while another lady accompanied with piano. Having access to AquaVie’s pool, hot tub, gym—that often comes in handy whether it’s for personal workout or for hosting. And the rooms themselves are mostly excellent. Old school elegance. The primary downside is the WiFi strength.

It was pretty, clean, comfortable, and had a pool/hot tub/sauna and full gym with a morning yoga class that’s part of the cost of the room. My room was close to a public transportation bus that beeped loudly every 10 min late into the night. So the loudness of that was my main issue.

A little tired, but still classy. The big problem is that there’s a trolley that runs right next to the hotel if you’re on the side of the building that we were on, then you hear the horn all night long. It turns out that they would’ve relocated us, but we didn’t know to ask. Also the shower dripped continuously and we requested it to be fixed twice but it never was
- 4/5
Parking fee of $52/night is highway robbery! Hotel staff provide no alternative options for parking. If your room is on the trolley side of the hotel, you’ll hear a buzzing sound from the trolleys all night. I will refuse to stay there in the future just for that parking reason alone. Otherwise a very nice hotel.

Staff was very nice and friendly. The room appeared clean however there was hair in the bathroom, both on the floor, in the shower, and on a towel. There was also hair found on the bed.

We arrived really early and had just planned to leave our bags but were told rooms were available so could check in straight away which was a huge bonus. Reception staff were super friendly. Nothng

The hotel advertises parking available and you essentially drive underground and could self park but they have setup an unnecessary valet system which has no pricing listed upon arrival or on the ticket. When you collect your car they just give it to you and then add $52!! per night to your hotel bill after you’ve left. The pool is not there’s and is setup as lanes so there is nowhere in particular to enjoy the pool without getting splashed by a wannabe Michael Phelps. If you have a main street facing room, you will hear the ringing of the tram bells constantly to the point of insanity. It’s not the most expensive hotel in town but nor should it be, for what they save you in hotel costs they steal from you in parking each night though. 4/10.

No dislikes at all.

The posh decor with a touch of classy chic. We also had tea time here and that was also great with lovely harp music and angelic voices from the entertainer.. The amenities that come with staying here was absolutely fantastic, free use of the gym next door, we enjoyed the pool, jacuzzi, hot and steam sauna and also took advantage of the classes that was offered. But all that beats nothing to the amazing service and the homemade warm cookies that greeted us and everyday. Love.
- 4/5
It would be better to let food deliveries come to my door instead of going to the front desk. It’s a great hotel but be aware of the surrounding areas and the next few blocks. There were several unhoused people and one was naked but I didn’t feel unsafe and there’s nothing the hotel can do since they’re well away from the property. Just be aware.

It was great everything was so clean and pretty all the staff was amazing. The food was excellent. This was a gem of a find and will now be our new place to stay anytime in town. From the moment you walk in everything was just superb. They offer valet parking which was also a breeze to use. And have been so accommodating to everything. Rooms are cozy and large love love loved it all. Still thinking about the experience can’t wait to go back. Thank you for everything! Honestly there was nothing we had any issues with our whole experience was just great.

It was beautiful. The shower pressure was the best
- 4/5
The hotel was charming with fun historic touches. We loved the pool area, the live harp and guitar music, and the cookies. Beds were also quite comfy, although hot. The hotel was close to the gas lamp district, but we found it wasn’t super close to many of the restaurants that we wanted or the marina.

The hotel, the staff and food were all excellent. We really enjoyed our stay there and will consider staying there next time we are in town.
- 4/5
The staff were consistently friendly and helpful, which made a big difference throughout the stay. The hotel itself was very clean, and while the décor is quite ornate (especially in the beautiful lobby), the rooms could use a bit of an update. One thing I really appreciated was the security, having to be buzzed in late at night made us feel much safer as two women traveling alone. The only downside was a small housekeeping miss. On our way out one day, we requested housekeeping service and for breakfast to be cleared, and while the room was cleaned, leftover room service items weren’t cleared. After getting back late from a wedding, we didn’t want to deal with it, but it did leave a slight smell the next morning. They also gave me a complimentary bottle of wine for being an Expedia Gold member, which was a nice touch. Overall, a clean, safe, and welcoming place to stay with great staff and just a few small areas for improvement.
- 5/5
Gym and room were excellent
- 4/5
Room was vast. I could have gone full Noah and brought two of everything with me. The bathroom had enough space to get ready side by side with a separate dressing area from the bathroom (for all you Brides out there). Bed was firm, which I appreciated. Toiletries were more on the masculine side so didn’t use them, but smelled nice (slightly peppery). The shower pressure was to die for. Nearly passed out. There was music almost constantly in the lobby - harpist or a jazz band. The blue and orange lines are right outside. The Gaslamp is three blocks east, Little Italy is a couple blue line stops to the north. The entire area does have alot of addicts roaming around, but because of blue/orange lines, the San Diego transit people were actively clearing the area. The hotel does supply ear plugs as you can hear the train horns from blocks away. Great central location and the staff were old school courteous.

Breakfast was good. Had asked for a additional place setting which I never received
- 2/5
My stay was disappointing. On the first night, I was assigned a room facing the train tracks, which appeared to be the worst room in the hotel. The constant noise from passing trains prevented me from sleeping, making it impossible to rest or work the following day. I requested a room change, and although the staff was courteous enough to accommodate me, the new room had stained carpet and an outdated remote control, which we had to request twice—initially, they never brought it. The couches in the room looked dirty and old. The staff at the front desk were courteous but not particularly friendly. Overall, I would not choose to stay here again. Also, the second room had a weird smell. I think may e if you buy the stay through Expedia, they give you the worst room, please be aware, and the noise from the train is horrible, unable to sleep at night

The hotel is beautiful! We arrived early and since we booked with Expedia they allowed us to check in at the time of our earlier than expected arrival. The staff is friendly. Would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone looking to stay in dt San Diego!

- 5/5
The staff was very cordial and accommodating, from the front desk staff to the wait staff in the bar and restaurant. The food was fabulous and the atmosphere very elegant. The fitness center was an added bonus. I was a little upset that the pool and fitness center were in a separate building, until we used them and experienced how complete they were. Truly a state of the art facility. I was disappointed that tea wasn't available on Tuesday, when we arrived, but we had lunch at the pool bar instead, and it was wonderful.

The Hotel is fine but the add on fees are rediculous. Im sick of the high add on fees at a lot of properties these days. In addition, its annoying that you cant self park. You have to pay for and tip for valet parking. They dont give you any other option, but the parking ui all literally within 50 yards of the valet stand. It was inconvenient and then to have to pay for that inconvenience is just adding salt. This was my second stay but I wont be returning, nor will I be recommending it to any one else.

This hotel definitely exceeded our expectations! It was such a beautiful and peaceful place to be. It is very well kept and clean. We really enjoyed the harp player in the lobby. She created such a peace, peaceful environment. The front desk staff are very friendly, professional, and check-in was very simple. The only downside was that the gentleman in the valet parking area must have misplaced our belongings upon arrival. We checked in our items at 3:30 PM. We checked in into our room at 4:45PM, and our luggage wasn’t delivered to our room until a little after 6:30 PM. I had to call the front desk twice and even go down in person to see what was going on. This issue caused us to miss our dinner reservation, since we were waiting on our belongings. Aside from that issue, our stay was wonderful! Did I mention we had a breathtaking view of downtown San Diego?

Very comfortable room with the most luxurious towels I have ever encountered. The rooftop pool/jacuzzi/bar were a hit with the whole family. Will certainly be staying here again!

Everything was absolutely amazing! The ambiance of this hotel will make you feel like “Pretty Woman”! The customer service was extraordinary from checking in to checking out. Housekeeping attendants were very respectful. The room was clean and fresh. The room decor was my favorite, elegant and classy. The third floor has an outdoor gym with a track, pool and jacuzzi. No regrets and no complaints!

Beautiful lobby. Great Staff. Nice size room + view. Negatives were that it's very loud from the train outside, and the room next to us was very loud aka walls are thin. Also would be nice for them to provide more bedding + pillows or at least stock the closet without having to ask first. We got room service and ordered the apple tarte + ice cream. The ice cream was practically all melted when we received it. It was clear the order had been sitting for a while before we received it.

Best part about this hotel was the gym, I have never seen a gym of that quality and with that depth of equipment at any hotel. Would rate it 5 stars if it wasn’t for the constant noise of the train at night and there only being valet parking available.

This was one of the best hotel experiences I’ve had in a while. The hotel itself is absolutely beautiful, the service was impeccable, and the amenities were so worthwhile. My stay began with a beautiful welcome by staff member, Joe who took the time to give me the history and unique facts about the hotel. Additionally, I was able to fully utilize the amenities such as a gym (indoor and outdoor), the spa, and the poolside bar. This was an unforgettable stay and every staff member I encountered was so pleasant and accommodating. I will definitely be back for future stays!

The room was dirty, and the sink was clogged. We waited for a technician to fix it. When we asked for another room, the receptionist said all the rooms were occupied. This wasn't true, as the hotel wasn't very busy. The service at this hotel is completely nonexistent.

The hotel is beautiful and the gym was fantastic. However, our room was right next to the train station which made noise ALL day and ALL night. That just is NOT acceptable when you're trying to relax in your room during the day and every few minutes you hear the sound of train's horn. Moreover, because it is an older hotel, there weren't enough outlets for all of our electronics. Again, this hotel has so much potential but I will never stay there again unless I can be guaranteed a room that doesn't face the train station.

**Drawback** it’s extremely noisy at night. With the trolley or whatever blaring what sounds like a cruise ship horns multiple times at night. You MUST bring earplugs or a white noise machine. Slight musty smell to the rooms but makes sense for a horistic building. Beds and pillows extremely fluffy and comfortable. Food delicious and reasonably priced. I would give this place another star if it wasn’t for the few misses

Loud noise from train public transport well into night. Also the worst valet parking service in the history of valet services offered. No customer attention like opening doors or even unlocking doors whe bringing car around. Two young employees never even got off their phones. $52 stated charge per night. Not even worth $5.20.

Fantastic hotel. Everything is first class. Restaurant is excellent. Furnishing are top notch. Our go to in Dan Diego.
- 4/5
Really enjoyed the stay. Pool and gym were nice. Location was a little loud with train and sirens throughout the night.
- 4/5
Easy check in , rooms could be updated
- 5/5
Really nice and elegant hotel. Room was was great with an amazing view. It's close enough to gaslamp, but not so close to be bothered when you turn in for the night.

We had an awesome stay and we definitely recommend it . Excellent hotel . Thanks

Nice, large room. Lovely staff.
- 5/5
Exceptional gym and spa, impressive building.
- 4/5
It was super clean
- 2/5
The heat didn't work so it was a very cold night. The metro outside the hotel made very loud noise every 4-5 minutes all hours of the day and night! We were promised a bottle of wine upon booking that never materialized.
- 5/5
Overall very happy with hotel. Bed was comfy, loved layout of bathroom for privacy. Only 2 comments. (Which did not impact the 5 star rating) 1) pillows were not ideal 2) our room window faced the metro trolly street. So we were unable to ever sleep in due to the constant beep beep from the trolly every 2 minutes or so starting at 5 am each day.
- 4/5
no they served instant oatmeal for $18 they had no bagels
- 3/5
Surrounded by countless of homeless people, felt unsafe walking out. Hotel itself is clean, little outdated.
- 4/5
Resort fee is ridiculous, and can't be opted out. Valet parking (no self parking allowed) is also overpriced. So while the hotel itself is reasonably nice, it's not worth the money.
- 5/5
Everything was fantastic from check in to check out not a moment that wasn’t perfect.
- 4/5
Staff was amazing, friendly and responsive. The hotel was clean, beautiful and well kept. This stay was an outstanding value for the price. I felt the bathtub as pictured was misleading as it was not a full sized tub at all. Also, remember to have exact change for tips. I handed the bellmen a bill and asked for change, he said he did not have change but I then saw him 20 min later counting his tips while I was waiting for my car.
- 2/5
A tired old hotel cutting corners all over the place.

Excellent hotel. Great location right next to the trolly. We loved the room and the staff were top notch. The gym is SUPERB! I couldn’t recommend enough. Will be my hotel of choice when staying in San Diego.
- 3/5
Super friendly staff in a good location. Don’t waste your money eating there. Dinner was horrible. Breakfast almost as bad.
- 5/5
Everything from the valet to the young lady at the front desk. They were all helpful and polite

- 5/5

- 5/5
Didn’t eat breakfast there and the parking was was safe, butt a little expensive.
- 4/5
The room was kinda old and the air didnt work but overalll it was fine and my son got to experience room service for the first time so that was a huge plus
- 3/5
This is the sort of place that was the definition of opulence 40 years ago, but the corporate leadership has not kept up with the times. The rooms and common areas are well kept for the most part, but the real deficit is the staff. Millennials and working seniors give this hotel the vibe of a local Best Western. The price for the stay isn't bad for what you get, but calling it a 4-star hotel is generous.
- 5/5
The staff were amazing. Check in was fast and the room was clean. Room service was convenient - the restaurant was exception and I always enjoy my stay. Even having the convenience of charging my EV before I leave San Diego to head back to Los Angeles is always a service. Thank you Westgate Hotel!
- 5/5
All the above. The staff was amazing and helpful.
- 5/5
I did not have breakfast at the hotel just some toast but I had a marvelous dinner prior and Sarah was absolutely amazing in all her help. Staff was excellent got a free goodie because it was my birthday and I got to check out later because it was my birthday I definitely will be coming back here.

There is a very upscale-'70s vibe I loved about this place. Not "groovy" '70s; stately '70s. Not to say it was a time capsule. Staff was attentive in an unstuffy way, everything was fresh-feeling. Just a very nice aesthetic and comfortable stay.
- 5/5
Avoid north facing rooms as it could get somewhat noisy due to public transportation
- 5/5
The hotel is gorgeous. The entrance is beautiful as well as the room we had. The bed was very comfortable. The hotel staff were super friendly and accommodating. All of them were respectful and kind. The outdoor pool was nice and they have comfortable lounges. I would definitely come back to the hotel.
- 5/5
I had an incredible experience at the Westgate Hotel in San Diego! The hotel itself is stunning — elegant, clean, and full of charm — but what truly made my stay unforgettable was the exceptional service from Sarah. She went above and beyond to ensure everything was perfect, making me feel welcomed and genuinely cared for. It’s rare to come across someone so professional, kind, and attentive. Thanks to Sarah, I’ll definitely be coming back. Highly recommend!
- 5/5
My daughter and her friends stayed here for a birthday trip and were happy from beginning to end. They loved everything about this hotel. Clean comfortable rooms, places to try just a walk away, and of course it was beautiful.
- 5/5
Amazing staff from check in to valet. Great having access to a full gym.
- 5/5
Excellent hotel to stay, dinning , lobby entertainment and the gym/ pool is perfect for workout and relaxation.
- 4/5
The hotel is beautiful! It was elegantly vintage and so classy. It felt like something out of an old movie. The only complaint is that if your room is on the side near the trolley line, you will hear the trolley honking until about midnight. We also heard dogs barking in the middle of the night on the street. The beds were a little firmer than I’d like and the room smelled a little musty but all in all, the rooms were great. The breakfast was amazing and the restaurant is newly renovated and so beautiful!
- 5/5
Great location and nice room
- 5/5
Staff were amazing! From valet to reception everyone was friendly and so very professional. The bed was comfortable. The only challenge is navigating the streets to get to the parking area but nothing that the property can control. We had a great stay.
- 5/5
It was fantastic!
- 3/5
The Hotel itself was good. I would stay there again. A couple of problems: NO remote for the TV, had to call and get one. A/C was not working, had to call them 2 times, but was never resolved, we just got lucky that it wasn't a warm day/night. All service was great, just the problems should have been resolved earlier.
- 5/5
I prefer boutique hotels over large chains because they usually provide to notch service and Westgate did not disappoint. Elegant, refined lobby, professional, courteous and friendly staff. The room was well appointed. The beds were extremely comfortable. I had a great view to the city. I was walking distance to Gaslamp area and even getting to the port area is doable in less than thirty minutes. The only negative was that the safe required a credit card, which was a first for me.
- 5/5
One of the best hotels I’ve stayed at in San Diego, if not the best. Parking is great pretty steep at $52 per night. Only down side I would say.
- 5/5
It was peaceful and fun
- 5/5
Hidden gem of a hotel - exquisite details, large rooms, we got a welcome bottle of california wine. I'm a long time marriott member but I will chose this hotel again if we come back over Marriott Marquis.
- 5/5
I booked this hotel for my client and myself and what a rare find. Thank you for your service and amazing amenities. Your new restaurant and in room dining was fabulous.
- 5/5
I had the most satisfying experience at the Westgate Hotel and appreciate their staff and amazing service. From helping with my bags, to charging my electric car. To hosting meetings in their new restaurant and room service was divine. thank you!
- 5/5
Really enjoyed our stay at the property. We have stayed here before and loved the location, room size, and rooftop pool/gym.
- 5/5
Amazing breakfast. So charming and comfortable
- 5/5
Beautiful hotel. Staff and everything in between was great. Other the the odd smell coming from all the bathrooms drawers. Not pleasant at all. And a big hole on the floor by the desk. Other than that the bed was super comfortable. Love the two showers.
- 4/5
Needs a better service in the evening. The live music is appreciated but you cannot get a drink. In a town full of bars, they could do more to retain their guests, the room is wonderful
- 5/5
All good
- 5/5
Only thing i didnt like was the extra charge for parking. Felt it was too expensive and should have been complimentary
- 5/5
. Beautiful style, very classic . The personal Amazing, the new restaurant is really good great food.
- 5/5
I liked the design the amenities and the staff. It was a great experience and the staff was helpful all around.
- 5/5
Adorable hotel in the gas lamp district. Old charm with modern day convenience. Very cozy with a wonderful pool and roof top bar. Only downside is the tram that runs behind the building, this was the only noise I heard during my stay.
- 5/5
Beautiful property! Loved the vibe of the hotel and staff were excellent.
- 5/5
Beautiful property… clean, comfortable, close to airport and easy to Uber to mission beach . The staff was very nice especially the bartender at the rooftop pool bar, Brandon. He went out of his way to accommodate me .
- 3/5
Not very welcoming at guest services and food was bad and was expensive not worth it at all!!
- 3/5
Hotel was clean but it is in a very noisy area.It was hard to sleep hearing the train pass by every so minutes.
- 5/5
We loved it!!
- 4/5
Nice property, gym is amazing! We stayed on the side where the train is and that noise is very loud until late at night and early morning
- 5/5
Eco friendly too and the room was amazing we also enjoy the complementary bottle of wine. Definitely we will book again. Thanks for the attention
- 5/5
The hotel was very fancy. The lobby is beautiful and the room was very comfortable.
- 5/5
Nice hotel, great customer service.
- 5/5
Beautiful Property!!
- 5/5
Big cozy room, clean, GREAT SHOWER & water pressure, amazing spa services & rooftop pool! Had a great fancy time !
- 5/5
The staff were always hustling. The gym and spa were a great benefit and had clean facilities. The pool area was very clean and comfortable.
- 5/5
Amazing place
- 5/5
Let me first say that I've stayed here often and that I'm from San Diego. I filled out a check in survey yesterday and although my replies were all positive I feel bad because I made a mistake. I still feel very positive about everything during this stay. But I was asked during the check-in about if I received anything special or VIP offerings. I said no. When I checked in I was in a hurry to dinner and I returned late and went to sleep. I didn't see the wonderful arrangements that were provided for me until 30 minutes including a very classy letter from Omar Carrillo acknowledging my world boxing title winning anniversary. I'm extremely touched by it along with the treats and I won't forget it and like always you'll see me again God willing. Thanks for validating my decision to celebrate at Westgate San Diego
- 2/5
When I called on August 6, 2025 at 6:20 AM to request the receipt and ask when to expect my deposit refund, I was met with an incredibly rude receptionist. They repeatedly talked over me, and when I respectfully tried to get their attention by saying “Sir,” they became highly offended, loudly corrected me with “Ma’am, Ma’am, Ma’am—I am a Ma’am,” and then hung up on me. This interaction left a very negative impression after an otherwise enjoyable stay. Clear communication about fees and checkout procedures, along with professional customer service, would have made a big difference.
- 3/5
The Westgate receives a mixed review for my stay. Pros: the Tea Service is really fun & the service outstanding. Strong recommend. The rooftop pool is fun, social and also a recommend; however the pool bar/menu could use a refresh. Very expensive for the options available. The menu is “healthy “ but is limited and too quirky and trendy. Sometimes you just want a club sandwich with fries. Hotel Room: spacious and classic. Location: walkable to theaters, gaslamp, restaurants. Cons: Most of the hotel rooms are adjacent to the trolley which relentlessly blows its horn day/night. The windows in the rooms ARE NOT modern and therefore it sounds like you’re sleeping on the trolley. All other noises- sirens, dogs, arguments on the street- all can be heard. Bathroom: both big and small- in other words, poor use of a large enough space. There’s a long makeup counter with a sit down vanity, but no stool or chair? The counter height is low, which makes it awkward no matter your height. Rooms have some neat features but need new carpet. Our room has a connecting door so you can hear almost everything your neighbor is doing. Finally- at $52 a night the valet should be professional. Most were, but the late night valet was condescending and rude only to me- not my husband. I didn’t appreciate the misogyny. I did report it to the front desk upon check out. I haven’t had a follow up yet, but I did receive apologies from the team there. So to wrap, some really great things, some not so great.
- 4/5
Very nice staff
- 5/5
I loved working out at the gym daily.
- 5/5
Five star service, from front counter to cleaning staff. Impeccably clean and well maintained property with old world aesthetic, spacious rooms, and modern conveniences (outdoor gym and running track a real attraction for fitness conscious travelers). One quibble would be room decor and fixtures which could use an update.
- 5/5
Enjoyed our stay. Everyone we dealt with was polite and helpful. Love the vintage hotel vibe. Room had plenty of space.
- 5/5
Thumbs up
- 3/5
The trolley or train located right behind the hotel was sooooooo noisy. I think it ran til 12:30 in the morning and started again around 5:30am so we got maybe 5 hours of sleep max. Plus the room wouldn’t really cool down. The front desk staff that everyone raves about seemed pretty non-chalant and non-helpful nor were they knowledgeable about the surrounding area restaurants, etc. And the ridiculously overpriced valet was super slow. Not impressed at all when spending almost $400 a night.
- 4/5
Nice historical hotel at a good spot.
- 4/5
All good
- 4/5
Conveniently located near Petco Park, Gaslamp, Little Italy and public transportation
- 4/5
The hotel was historical, nice, clean, easy access to everywhere.
- 5/5
Everything was lovely! Gorgeous property and super convenient downtown location. Easy valet parking. Great coffee shop within walking distance. Wonderful stay!
- 5/5
Beautifully vintage
- 5/5
This was our third stay. We live in San Diego but love to stay here when going to the theater. Love the hotel and convenient location.
- 5/5
Awesome
- 5/5
Only one thing i don't like. Homless people and smell. But it part of the downtown of San Diego
- 2/5
The beds are terrible. Everyone slept terrible. Makes your hips, shoulders, and back ache. Not good for the money they charge.
- 5/5
Quiet place in a great location. Staff is top-notch.
- 2/5
I requested something special for Anniversary and got nothing. Ordered a bottle of wine and never got it. No Communication
- 5/5
The ambiance catered to all 5 senses, the smell walking into the lobby was fresh and clean 👌
- 4/5
The hotel and room were nice. Noise leak from the tram side of the hotel and other guests sharing walls were mildly annoying, however the staff were all kind and fantastic
- 3/5
Rooms and decor very outdated, chips and rust peeling in tub, room above trolley tracks so noisy when they could have put us on another side, room key stopped working, in room dining hours not good, menu just so-so, just felt old for the price we paid. I have pics but why bother?
- 3/5
Nice property. Too many homeless prople nearby.
- 5/5
Clean, super comfortable beds and beautiful gym. A favorite stay in downtown San Diego
- 5/5
.
- 5/5
Upon entering, desk staff treated us excellent. Our rooms were perfect. The breakfast staff was amazing. We will definitely return.

- 5/5
Lovely, charming hotel with large, comfortable room, sunny good view.
- 5/5
Beautiful hotel and great accommodations in a convenient location. This will be my hotel of choice in downtown San Diego going forward.
- 5/5
Very nice hotel! Very friendly staff. Big, clean rooms. Very nice pool area
- 5/5
We really enjoyed our stay at Westgate. I think what separates this property apart from others is the excellent service from the people who work there. I was very impressed. Additionally, the pool area was well appointed and fun for the family.
- 5/5
Hotel was gorgeous!
- 4/5
There is a lot to like about the Westgate. The lobby and lounge were lovely and the front desk was accommodating. It was within walkable distance to many nice areas, although if you go in the wrong direction it feels less safe. My main complaint was with the valet service. We forgot a bag in our car and called for it in the morning to be retrieved and brought to the front desk. By mid-afternoon it had not been. The front desk then called and asked them to bring it, but no one did. Finally another employee went and got it for us. For $52 per night I would have expected more responsiveness.
- 5/5
Great place!
- 5/5
Very classy and elegant looking. Good distance from restaurants/bars.
- 5/5
Everything perfectly 😊
- 5/5
Another great stay at my favorite downtown hotel.

Loved the hotel, did not love the area. I think the valet service being set up inside the hotel with a small area to even park in front of the hotel is a bit odd.

I love coming here. Not too close to the noise but close enough to walk to all the fun. Will be back again.

The rooms are clean and the service is always wonderful, my boyfriend and I have stayed at this location three other times. We always enjoy our stay here.
