Reviews
The hotel is generally well-liked for its great location and friendly staff. However, there are consistent complaints about the cleanliness and maintenance of the rooms, as well as the quality of the breakfast. The hotel seems to be in need of updates and better management of its facilities.
- Great location
- Friendly staff
- Poor cleanliness and maintenance
- Low quality breakfast
- 5/5
Awesome and helped me with an early check in
- 4/5
The hotel was located very close to the airport and the San Diego Zoo. It was quiet, and the breakfast was decent. The only negative I would say is that the parking was limited. We paid for two days, and when we returned from our outing on our last day, there was only one spot left next to some bushes, and I had to let the family out, pull in really close, and climb out the back trunk of the car to exit. Beware of the parking.
- 5/5
Our room was clean and very quiet from outside noise which was great since we were by the rail. Breakfast was good, always hot and a good selection for something quick to start the day.
- 5/5
Enjoyed the breakfast, pleasant check in, welcoming baggage storage, front desk cookies a treat
- 4/5
The front desk was very friendly, there was an “air freshener” at reception desk that was not pleasant, kind of a sickening sweet smell. The morning buffet breakfast was decent. The outside of the hotel was loitered by homeless people but they didn’t bother us or our vehicle. Nice room, train could be heard pretty loud in our room (4th floor) when passing by. Lastly, we asked for late check out which would have been 1 pm, my husband works night and wanted to get as much sleep as possible. Unfortunately the cleaning staff knocked on our door at 10 am and he couldn’t get back to sleep. We checked out and I informed the front desk and the front desk person was very nice and apologized and said she’d l speak to housekeeper about it but it was a moot point.
- 2/5
Roaches in room, dirty heating vents, ripped curtains with masking tape to hold curtains together and mold and built up grime in bathroom and hair in bathtub
- 4.5/5
Friendly staff Clean rooms Comfy bed The train passing by 3 times in the night blowing it’s horn. Not the hotel’s fault but something to consider
- 5/5
We enjoyed the breakfast, there was a little something for everyone. The building could use some upgrades, to make it a little more modern. It’s a good location, across the street from a lovely park, and the bay front , where there are plenty of restaurants within walking distance, for most. It is a slight noisy due to the trains. Would I stay again…absolutely.
- 3/5
The rooms were very outdated nothing like the pictures and if you stay in the back side of the hotel there is a train that passes often with horn sounding that was not listed and there is no hot tub
- 3.5/5
The fold out couch mattress could not have been worse
- 5/5
Clean room. We had a 2bed/2bath suite that fit our family including 2 adults and 3 grown children. Beds were just full sized which made sharing of beds with two larger older teens a little tight but manageable
- 5/5
The room smelled, felt and looked so clean. We got the suite with a bay view and it was extraordinary. The staff was friendly and welcoming. Breakfast was nice with a good selection. Great location with tons to do around the city within walking distance. Such a pleasant experience and worth every penny.
- 5/5
Clean room
- 4.5/5
Parking is very expensive
- 1/5
Breakfast was horrible. Eggs, sausage and cereal were all stale and gross.
- 4.5/5
Loved fire pit pool breakfast
- 5/5
Excellent front desk staff that were genuinely helpful. Location was perfect, close to the freeway, marina sunsets, Seaport Village ships. Well-stocked “mini-market”, great variety of breakfast choices. Enjoyed the clean pool & fire pit. Will definitely recommend to friends.
- 5/5
I really enjoyed the view and how clean the property was. Staff members were super nice.

The surrounding properties were sketchy

very good

Nothing We didn’t like anything about it. Since we got there the room had a bad smell. Super bad smell. We decided to continue and unpack our stuff. We got ready to go out and have dinner. When we came back i am not exaggerating when I say the whole kitchen counter was full of cockroaches. It was the worse feeling I have experienced in a hotel before. We quickly packed our luggage and went to the front desk to get the hell out of there. The front agent offered another room but at that point who would guarantee the other rooms didn’t have cockroaches. So we left. I am still waiting for the parking company to refund me the 3 nights I already had paid. This hotel was THE WORSE.
- 5/5
Everything was great!
- 5/5
Spacious room with a great view. Excellent breakfast and patio. Easy walk into Little Italy and it’s fabulous Farmers’ Market.
- 4/5
2 bedroom units only have 2 queen beds plus sofa in the main area. Breakfast was good and location is good too.
- 1/5
we did not get to stay here. our reservation was cancelled on our drive in. we live 2 hours away and got the cancellation on our way in. horrible situation and ruined our trip down to san diego
- 4/5
No commeny
- 5/5
Amazing location walkable to all city attractions! Professional friendly staff made checking in and out smooth. Breakfast was fresh, warm, and delicious, with plenty of cold options also available. The room was clean and spacious. Beds were comfortable with room darkening curtains for a great night of sleep! The property has luxurious additions with exceptional staff.
- 3/5
The breakfast was of poor quality, HVAC in the bedroom: noisy. The sofa mattress is very thin and uncomfortable
- 0.5/5
Unhappy cancellation of my status saying there wasn’t any rooms left when I booked 5pm call at 9pm with no rooms availab
- 4/5
Breakfast and location are amazing The bed is a bit soft
- 5/5
Nice room size comfortable beds
- 5/5
Everything is in good conditions
- 5/5

- 2/5
There wasn’t much to be said about the breakfast, as everything was always running low. No soap in downstairs ladies bathroom for 3 days, empty hand sanitizer in workout room all 3 days, 2 heaters by the pool had empty propane tanks, only one day there was water in the lobby. Better managed, seems like the hotel was being stingy
- 5/5
Close to bay Expensive parking
- 3.5/5
Reasonable walk to restaurants and the maritime museum. Not far from the cruise terminal(via Uber). Breakfast was satisfactory. No complaints.
- 5/5
Staff was really nice and helpful
- 4.5/5
Location, cleanliness, on-site parking, reasonably priced. People in room above us were extremely noisy. Stomping or running in room until midnight.
- 4.5/5
It was Round everything and the breakfast was good!
- 3/5
This property is in a great part of town but the rooms are dated.
- 3/5
Breakfast has less vegetarian options
- 5/5
Awesome and clean
- 5/5
Friendly staff and clean room
- 5/5
This hotel is perfectly located to all the important and relevant tourist attractions in the heart of downtown San Diego. The staff are very nice, the breakfast was very plentiful and the rooms are spacious. Would recommend highly

- 5/5
Great room
- 4/5
Very nice people who are upfront as reception the buffet food was not too bad. I was a little bummed that they didn’t have a Jacuzzi. I didn’t realize that but other than that, it was a great day and a great deal.
- 5/5
all was great
- 5/5
Room was clean with a great breakfast.
- 4/5
The bedroom had dust around the TV. Otherwise the room was pretty clean. There was things to do around the hotel. There was convenience, stores restaurants the zoo, and other things were close by going by Uber.
- 5/5
Room was nice
- 5/5
The facilities were clean and the staff was exceptional. I will definitely be returning
- 3/5
The hotel is ina convenient area to the trolley and Little Italy. It is surrounded by many homeless people as well. The breakfast is very similar to Hampton Inn. The room could have used an update. The shower curtain smelled very musty. Housekeeping not provided daily.
- 3/5
The pool went through a renovation in December, but the water was still not heated as of January 10. The sofa bed was worn and uncomfortable. On the positive side, the breakfast was good and the staff was kind and helpful. The bed in the bedroom was comfortable. We enjoyed having a kitchen and a large refrigerator available for us.
- 3/5
The room was decent. The curtains could do with a wash though. The receptionist who checked me in was very cooperative and helpful. When I checked out at 4.30 am, there was nobody at the front desk. I didn’t check out online as I prefer handing over the keys and checking out with a human. I was about to leave the keys on the desk as my cab had arrived, but decided to call by phone. When the phone at the front desk started ringing, someone came in from inside who was supposedly on duty but was sleeping! Also, I had requested a wake-up call at 4am that I didn’t get. Good that I had only asked for the wake-up call as a back-up. The breakfast is reasonably good even though not as good as provided in Hyatt House/Place. The breakfast area at this particular place is too cramped and cannot accommodate the guests in that small space. I had to take my breakfast to my room in the 3rd floor. Even though I had to make multiple trips, this was better in the end as I could enjoy my meal in a more comfortable space. The location is good, but there are some homeless characters always hanging out in front of the Jack in the Box that is next door.
- 5/5
The location was amazing, breakfast was good, room was perfect! The amenities like games on the patio, the park directly across the street, the parking right outside the door was just awesome. Literally walking distance to all kinds of stuff to see and do.
- 4/5
Spacious room. Good variety for daily breakfast. Kitchen well equipped. Very comfortable bed. Easy walking location.
- 5/5
Close to the harbor.
- 3/5
It is not like the photos and despite good localization, there is a bunch of homeless sleeping beside the hotel! Staff was really nice!
- 3/5
The pool was closed for renovation, which we did not learn about until we checked in. We registered our car at the front desk, yet we twice had notices left on it saying we hadn’t registered it. This was annoying. One day at breakfast, there were two men who were clearly homeless. One behaved very strangely. Staff seemed unbothered. Is the hotel sometimes used as a shelter? This would be nice to know in advance. The room and the staff were nice, location is great.
- 4/5
Great
- 5/5
Perfect stay and the complimentary cookies were a bonus
- 5/5
Room was clean and roomy. Food was good
- 3/5
Great place and location. They did have to move us to another room due to the toilet not working. Everything else was great.
- 5/5
Check in was smooth and everyone was friendly
- 5/5
Staff was so delightful and very courteous. We truly appreciated the earlier check in after long flight. Any issues were addressed right away. Recommendations were appreciated and correct. Breakfast was served hot and plentiful. Would highly recommend this hotel especially for cruise ships as 15 minute walk to port
- 5/5
clean room, friendly staff and breakfast included!! good spot in downtown, walkable to restaurants and bars
- 3/5
Ants in the bathroom the first night. In my opinion the room and bathroom needs updating. Late night check wasn't great. Desk clerk gave us no information about the hotel, breakfast hours ect. Charged for parking even though we had no car. Front desk did remove charge
- 4/5
👍
- 4/5
Staff was respectful and the room was clean. In the bathroom there was a problem on the shower head because it was loose. The water was spraying on the ceiling.
- 5/5
We love the location of this hotel. Very clean rooms and friendly staff
- 5/5
Great locatio
- 5/5
This hotel is across the street from Waterfront Park which is safe, clean and beautiful. And, just beyond the park is San Diego's Embarcadero with the Maritime Museum, tall ships and good restaurants. I asked for a room with a bayside view and really appreciated it.
- 5/5
Nice hotel like a mini apartment. Good amenities like parking and laundry. Parking is a bit expensive but it’s typical for the area. Great location
- 4/5
On the downside, housekeeping skipped our room one day even though we left the “ready to clean” sign out, which was disappointing. Also, the pull-out sofa bed isn’t really suitable for adults — the mattress was thin and uncomfortable, but fine for kids. Overall, a good experience and we would stay again, but there are a few areas that could be improved.
- 4/5
ok!
- 5/5
The electronics need a serious maintenance otherwise the hotel is nice
- 5/5
A wonderful labor day weekend get away from too much heat staying walking next to the beach with cold breeze around easy acces to attractions nearby and convenience store for some stuff.Highly recommended hotel with clean amenities and friendly staff our stay was great
- 3/5
When got in Friday evening the room is a good size. The bathroom smelled really bad, it’s was due to shower curtain smelling like mildew. Called that night to let them know about it. It didn’t get changed till Sunday after telling them 3 times. Hotel is definitely not family friendly, more due to the people that were staying there having a problem with just kids playing in the pool. It wasn’t really the hotel itself, but the crowd that was there it was majority of older people who wanted “quiet time” in the middle of a hot SD day when kids want to play in the pool. Most of the staff working, there was polite. Except the gentleman that we got the first evening we got it. He was frustrated because we were asking about the parking which is $40 a night and you have to register with the city of SD to pay.
- 2/5
Nice and quiet area. Rooms need to be updated
- 5/5
All good
- 5/5
This was our second time staying and we will be back. Great room layout w/kitchen and foldout bed.
- 5/5
All staff from front desk, housekeeping, maintenance, and breakfast staff. It means alot to have the right people on your team, it makes or breaks the whole deal.
- 5/5
Great stay great location
- 5/5
Nice place
- 2/5
Toilet did not flush, requested for the repair, took three days to repair, had to move to another unit. after moved in new unit I discovered the window shades doesn't work. after requested to repair , it was repaired half way, but not complete. While outside is sunny & bright with water view, I had to close the window shades. Terrible.
- 3/5
Nice room, busy street and not too much space to go out and relax. Pool area was small but nice. No jacuzzi though. Breakfast room very overcrowded every morning!
- 4/5
Everything was nice and clean. However the hall way always smelled like food and the room smelled like wet dirty towel every time we walked in. The last day we were there I got woken up at 5am by someone screaming and arguing with someone don’t know if it was outside or in one of the rooms next door since they did give us the room towards the back of the hotel where you would keep hearing the trains pass by every 10-15 mins . Kinda disturbing
- 5/5
Loved everything! Location, pool, breakfast & gym! Only con was paying $40 for parking. Should be free for guest!
- 5/5
always perfect!
- 5/5
all Marriott residence inns are awesome.
- 4/5
40$ parking was outrageous later I found out you can park outside which it doesn’t matter because the hotel is not accountable if something happens to your vehicle.
- 5/5
Very convenient, walking distance to restaurants and the harbor. Will stay here again.
- 2/5
First off, the air conditioner didn't work, and we didn't realize till the morning when we discussed our restless night and figured out why, so that caused us to be tired the next day and we ended up canceling our planned sunset bike ride because we were ready for bed by 4pm. Next time I'll pay the extra $50 to stay at a hopefully more reliable hotel.
- 3/5
Not what we expect from a Marriott. The shower in our room needed to be redone. There were patches all over the inside of the shower wall .The living area smelled bad when it got warm in the room. We were placed in a handicap room without being asked. The swimming pool was not clean.
- 5/5
Inside hotel, staff is courteous and accommodating.
- 5/5
Great staff, clean environment, good breakfast
- 5/5
Great stay
- 5/5
Ok
- 5/5
Great location
- 4/5
Great location, service and staff are friendly.
- 3/5
On the second day, our sink was clogged and the TV didn't work. It doesn’t have a safe box!
- 2/5
It wasn’t worth the price. Bathroom extremely out dated, room is extremely small and so is the bed. WiFi was extremely difficult to connect too and even after it was connected it was very poor. Parking was $40 a night which is something that should be stated before booking. Just overall does not resemble any other Residence Inn I’ve ever stayed at, it was probably the worst one. The pictures do not look like what you seen when you check in.
- 5/5
Excellent staff who accommodated changing our room due to ceiling leaking water. Bravo Zulu to Mr Salvador who took care of us.
- 3/5
The property looks very different from the pictures online. The bathroom light was not working properly. Tiles had cracks in it. Also noticed one of the towels had blonde hair on it. we arrived to the property earlier then check out, we were told to come back at 3pm, we arrived around 3:30-3:45 and our room on the 4th floor was still not ready so they gave us a room on the 1st floor….
- 3/5
Parking costs $40 and they don’t tell you that ahead of time, just that “parking is available.” It’s convenient to the airport, but next time I’ll just use a place that has free parking and drive. Nothing special, just a fine place to stay overnight if you have to.
- 1/5
The room had a pump noise, could bot sleep and breakfast was not good
- 5/5
Near Little Italy. A lot of dining options. Near farmers market.
- 5/5
Great customer service and pool was in good condition bed and sofa bed were comfortable
- 4/5
Nice staff. Nice Hotel. The breakfast needs a bit more variety, though.
- 4/5
The hotel was great but their parking system needs ti be changed. They charge $40/day to park there and you have to do it online. It is not a user friendly service and i ended up getting billed twice. It'd be nice if guests didnt have to pay for parking at all. At least give us the option to talk to a human when paying for it.
- 5/5
People were very nice and helpful, I would stay there in my next trip!
- 5/5
They charge $40 for parking which was at the property. I was very disappointed.
- 5/5
Great
- 4/5
Friendly staff, location was convenient, quiet and clean. AC didn't work or maybe it was just confusing controls.
- 4/5
Very convenient
- 5/5
Excellent flexibility and attention to detail during the check-in. $40 for parking is a bit much. Great location
- 4/5
Love the open breakfast.
- 5/5
We had a wonderful 5 night stay at this hotel. Everything from staff hospitality to the comfortable room and the delicious breakfast made our stay most enjoyable, not to mention that this hotel is within minutes from promenade along the waterfront. Thank you, again!
- 5/5
We stayed in this hotel for 8 nights and liked it a lot. First of all, the location is of the hotel is amazing. It is about 30 min walking distance to the San Diego Convention Center, Seaport Village and Gaslamp Quarter area. Also it is again about 30 min walking distance to Balboa Park. The staff were super helpful and friendly. The room was excellent; clean, spacious and comfortable. Finally, the breakfast was also amazing with lots of options. We strongly recommend this hotel for families.
- 5/5
All around
- 5/5
Farmer’s Market and restaurants are walking distance. Also close to Balboa Park and Japanese Friendship Garden.
- 5/5
Everything was above expectation. Staff were great
- 5/5
Bed was comfortable. Room was clean, staff was friendly. Complimentary breakfast was perfect in the morning.
- 1/5
I did not get service in my room because as the clerk said it had to be pre-arranged. I’m am a Vice President at Hitachi and I will be asking to remove this brand from our hotel list
- 5/5
Nice, quiet.
- 4/5
Great location
- 5/5
Only thing I didn’t like was that I couldn’t read which soap was which in the shower. The placement made it difficult to read.the coffee machine was not good.
- 4/5
Nothing negative to say
- 5/5
Great location
- 5/5
I loved how it was only a block away from the harbor and walked distance from everything.
- 5/5
Everything was great apart from parking. $40 a day is absurd for an open parking lot with a few homeless behind the Jack in the box is crazy. We found street parking across the hotel and within little Italy. Paid $10 cumulatively for 3 days. Make sure to read the parking sign times and parking meter. Overall breakfast was nice as well as other commodities.
- 4/5
I didn’t like that the website didn’t mention that parking was $40 per day. They need to mention that parking was an extra fee. I also didn’t like that our room was next to the train tracks so we heard it passing at night. Thankfully the noise wasn’t too loud. The place could also use some renovations or modernization. There were no outlets for charging, just the regular plug.
- 2/5
The wifi was very poor and the heating did not come on until after midnight, making the stay uncomfortable. The TV remote was also not working as expected.
- 4/5
Over night parking is $40.
- 5/5
Great location! Services were very good!
- 5/5
Its in a great location with amazing features. I would definitely stay here again
- 5/5
Perfect!
- 5/5
.
- 5/5
We had a great stay
- 2/5
I loved the area location. I loved the kitchenette with the two bedrooms in the room. Each bed had stained sheets. Very loud with the trains all night long as well.
- 4/5
Clean and convenient.
- 3/5
For a hotel chain that carry the Marriott brand , our room is kinda outdated, everything else is good
- 5/5
It was quiet.
- 4/5
Great location. Walking distance from the cruise port as well as Little Italy and attractions.
- 5/5
Excellent staff. Breakfast is a plus as well. But the wall from the hotel to the trolley station is not as clean and there are individuals loitering around at night which increases the sense of being unsafe.
- 5/5
Loved it!
- 3/5
Great location. Property is a bit dated and under renovations. Our room was loud at night from the street noise. Housekeeping also never cleaned our room the four nights that we were there.
- 5/5
My daughter love the pool!!!
- 5/5
Excellent location for me. I took the train to San Diego and was within walking distance to the Santa Fe Depot. Staff were friendly and accommodating and did their best to allow for an earlier check in that scheduled, stored our luggage, and called when the room was available. Most locations say no without even trying - they tried and even if they couldn't get us in a little earlier, I would have appreciated the effort in itself. Location is very convenient to the Port and Little Italy (walkable), the Santa Fe Depot was very close so had access to all of San Diego on public transit. Extremely clean and spacious. The staff were the highlight of the stay, from the time we were greeted to the time we checked out, superb customer service! The housekeeping staff was amazing! It felt like I was walking into a new room when I returned after it was serviced.
- 5/5
Our stay was perfect! Close to where we were going and very nice room!
- 1/5
Breakfast was great, bums outside everywhere. Too expensive, room outdated, bed was horrible
- 5/5
Everything was great besides you have to pa $40 ,a day for parking
- 4/5
I was impressed by the service of the front desk. However our room was cleaned only once. We were there from 8/30-9/5 and we had the no service magnet on the door for one night because we just got in and were tired. No one ever came back to refresh our towels and we did make a request to the front desk and the towels were never brought. I saw the person cleaning rooms and asked for some new towels and she gave them to me but she did not speak English so I only got one towel and 2 wash cloths. We made due. She showed me a clipboard that had NS after our room number. I assume that meant no service. Again we had that on the door for only one day because we were tired. Breakfast was excellent.
- 5/5
The property was great! The only item that I suggest they upgrade are the TVs, they remote worked really poorly and it because of low batteries. You could also only login to Netflix or Youtube. I spent most of my stay outside of the hotel but would have liked some more options on the TV. Parking is $40/day, it would have been great if we didn’t have to pay for that or if we could have included it in the price when booking. The rest of the property was great.
- 4/5
Older hotel with dated furniture but still clean and decently good condition. The only thing I did not like was the parking, on the weekends it can get fun and if there's a concert next door, good luck.
- 2/5
The staff were very apologetic about the AC situation. I wished they did not book this room to anybody until the AC was fixed. This was an unpleasant experience overall. The parking was $40 a night which is excessive. I would definitely not book again with this hotel.
- 5/5
It was a great location and minutes to where we wanted to go. Was a great place for my family trip.
- 5/5
Great staff and easy transportation to everything.
- 5/5
We had a 3 night stay in San Diego. Our room was big and spacious we had a balcony overlooking the pool courtyard. Aside for the noise of the A/c unit turning on it was comfortable. The hotel itself was walkable to the USS Midway and little Italy.
- 5/5
Nice property close to good restaurants.
- 5/5
The room itself was very spacious and had a lot of amenities. However, the shower and restroom were dirty in comparison to the rest of the room. Also, parking was terrible even after paying $40 for the night, we had to wait 40 min to find a spot after going to dinner. It didnt seem worth the price when there was not convenient parking.
- 5/5
Was not familiar with Residence Inn game … impressed! Thoughtful staff and easy check in and checkout. Thanks!
- 5/5
We had a great time! The front desk staff was so friendly and kind. Even with a sold out weekend due to Bayfest going on across the street, they worked hard to clean rooms fast and get everyone checked in.
- 5/5
Parking lot is very convenient , although it’s a charge it’s quite fair considering you are downtown. Checkin and front desk is manned 24-7 , they have little market that is extremely convenient. Breakfast has good options , pool was nice and heated. Gym and laundry room has lot of machines so no waiting. Had a 2 bedroom - it was quite spacious , very comfortable beds , kitchen has utensils and cooking pans and stuff. TVs made good size and has internet access for Netflix and you tube. Place was kept very clean , in the morning always see someone cleaning parking lot. Must say this is a true gem in the Little Italy / Harbor area
- 3/5
First room did not have AC. The desk did a good job relocating me to another room.
- 4/5
Good
- 5/5
Very good service
- 4/5
front desk was extremely helpful
