The hotel is in a prime location in Little Italy, with numerous dining and shopping options within walking distance. Guests generally appreciate the cleanliness and comfort of the rooms, but some find them small. The staff is often praised for being friendly and helpful, but a few guests have had negative experiences with specific employees.

Perfect stay for me I enjoy the location
- 1/5
Bathroom was filthy, I bought sandals to use in the shower, and there was NO shower door or curtain. The lights in our room made loud electrical sounds all night. We had to park a few streets down. And 2 homeless people slept on the side walk RIGHT at the entrance which made it extremely uncomfortable and unsafe. The side walk smelled like straight piss and we saw rats everytime we went outside. I have never been so disgusted at a hotel until we stayed here. Never coming back.

Great hotel and great location!

Everything was great, Prime location and all .., but, Parking can be an issues tho. Parking lot across the street can become expensive and you have to be extremely lucky if you find street parking. Plan ahead with the Farmers’ Market schedule as well since they close off the street(s) in front of the Hotel.

parking was terrible, was not notified that the parking structure was under construction and street parking was far and expensive
- 1/5
The AC didn’t work and the room was dated and old. We found two roaches so left.
- 5/5
Parking structure was under renovation, which was unfortunate, but understandable. Stay was very nice and quiet despite the busy area.
- 4/5
The location was fantastic with restaurants right there. The piece was a bit pricey
- 1/5
We checked in and immediately checked out within the hour. The little blonde receptionist was rude and no helpful at all. We were under the impression that parking was an amenity here but the only parking available would be lots or street parking. All the lots the hotel suggested were full. The room is pathetic. It was so tight and crowded and was filthy;reeked of bleach. It was not worth the risk of staying one night.
- 3/5
That said, the hotel itself feels dated, and the room layout was odd. Having the sink by the entrance instead of inside the bathroom was awkward. The parking situation was also inconvenient. The hotel does not offer on-site parking, and the more affordable option they recommended looked sketchy and didn’t feel secure. We chose a nearby enclosed garage instead because it felt much safer, even though it cost $45 per night. The biggest issue, however, was room comfort. The bed was uncomfortable, and the AC in room 219 was extremely loud — so loud that it made falling asleep difficult. The hotel should really address this, and future guests may want to avoid room 219 unless the AC has been fixed. Overall, the excellent location was a major plus, but the dated room, inconvenient parking, uncomfortable bed, and very noisy AC made the stay just average.

Very good
- 4/5
Hotel was nice enough, great location, friendly staff. Our bathroom smelled liked sewer maybe once a day? There was no direction on receiving towels, getting our trash taken out. We had to ask for new towels several times but our room was never cleaned over 4 nights. Staffing may have been reduced since construction was ongoing so it may have been just a strange time for the hotel.
- 5/5
The room and premises were clean. No major amenities but I knew that going in. Right in the middle of Little Italy with plenty of dining options within walking distance. The front desk staff had great recommendations! If you need a cheap room to lay your head down after exploring San Diego this is the spot!

Superb
- 3/5
Price for 3 night stay was a great deal! Room was decent, bedding could use a bit more washing. My floor was pretty quiet through the night. Hotel location in little italy is a big plus as restaurants, petco park, gas lamp district, and seaport village are close by (10-15 min drive, 30 min walk).Hotel staff was very friendly. Off site parking, downloading spot hero is recommended.
- 3/5
When I first arrived to the property I had a hard time finding parking. The hotel does not offer any parking on site. There is a nearby parking lot, but they did not have the 24hr option. I was very lucky to find free street parking nearby after a certain time, but it’s very hard to find! When I walked into the first room I was given, the toilet was not flushed. I contacted staff and asked if the room had been cleaned, they checked their system and offered to switch me rooms. Overall the bed was comfortable, location is near many food places, & I didn’t feel unsafe for a solo traveler.
- 4/5
Location The fact that rooms are not cleaned during stay.
- 5/5
This place was modern, clean, and super close to all our favorite restaurants. Great stay!
- 5/5
Great hotel to stay right on the heart of little Italy!
- 4/5
Awesome location. Walking distance to shops and food. No parking on site; paid parking available a block away; our room was a little noisy but we had a view of the Little Italy sign and the art event below. Overall a good experience.
- 4/5
I've been staying at La Pensione for years. If you want to explore Little Italy, this location is amazing. It has a cute European vibe, with Italian café adjacent the lobby. Room size varies. Our original room was quite compact- and the fan/light in the bathroom was malfunctioning. It randomly turned itself on, fan blaring in the middle of the night. Management graciously moved us to another room and we happily enjoyed the rest of our stay there.
- 5/5
Great location.
- 4/5
In the heart of little Italy, great location, parking is tricky. Staff are helpful. I understand they are going to renovate soon. The room is decent.
- 3.5/5
Great location, accessible to lots of restaurants, and the trolley. The bed was comfy and the room seemed clean. The room was lot smaller than expected and it seemed dated. The carpet was lefting in the entrance to the bathroom. And I definitely checked for bed bugs because you know, I don't want any visitors coming home with me.
- 3/5
Location was amazing. Rooms were not clean and things had to be fixed on my first day.
- 4/5
Nice central location in Little Italy - so much is walkable, e.g. dining and farmer's market. Downside is having to pay for street parking (at least during construction). Nice rooms and helpful staff! We enjoyed our stay.
- 2/5
The location is amazing, and the staff is really helpful and kind. The room grossed me out - I found a dried contact lense between the mattress and the edge of the bed. I also found a curdled juice under the bathroom sink when I bent over to grab my shoes off the floor. The AC unit did not work. It was set on 68 and our room was 75 degrees. They did offer to move us on the last night there, but it was our choice not to move at that point since we had one night left. They did provide unlimited bottles of water which was great at no cost. We also really appreciated that. It has a lot of potential.
- 5/5
Walking distance to all the great restaurants of Little Italy. Hotel is comfortable with an elevator. Staff were friendly and helpful. Sad to hear it is closing down for reinnervation in June.
- 5/5
Clean and quiet. Front desk was super helpful.
- 1/5
The beds are very uncomfortable. The rooms are tiny and clean but could be cleaned better. One of the front desk girls is kinda rude but the younger one is nicer. The location is nice but you can hear a lot of noise at night
- 5/5
This is the perfect place, central to everything we found for walking! The staff are great at recommending places to go. Rooms were just right as we aren't in the hotel room for long anyways. The beds are very comfy and the pillows were too! Probably the most comfortable spot to sleep that we've stayed in America.
- 2/5
No onsite parking. Had to park 5 blocks and pay plenty for it Door key cards malfunctioned 4 times in a 2 nights stay. Other than location I would not recommend it.
- 2/5
- The pictures on the website do not reflect the room at all. To say the room was tiny would be an understatement. - There’s not house keeping so you have to go down to the lobby for clean towels. - There’s not an ironing board or iron in the room which is also inconvenient. - There’s constant construction which can be annoying in the early morning. - No parking near the building so you have to walk. - There is carpet in the room and it’s clearly old and not well kept, it had stains everywhere. The only good thing I’ll say about the hotel is the location is very convenient.
- 5/5
Staff was amazing. Room was nice for a solo trip. Right in the center of everything. Air conditioning was great, no daily housekeeping though
- 5/5
Hotel has no parking have to find parking away from property. The hotel is great staff is very helpful great experience 👍

Only negative was the shower. You had to reach in and get wet when turning on the water & rain head above was super weak flow.
- 3.5/5
The location is ideal! The staff got us in our room early for check in! The light in the bathroom is on a sensor timer that goes off after about 15 seconds. Also you have to request to have your room cleaned.

Good location, reasonable price, room was clean but could have used a thorough cleaning.
- 3/5
Great location
- 4/5
Clean room, great location. Nice view of city skyscrapers and San Diego Bay. A couple windows would not close tightly which let street noises in when trying to sleep.
- 3/5
Parking was a problem and room was very small.
- 3/5
No frills hotel in the bustling little Italy neighborhood. It's really easy to get around. Little Italy is loaded with restaurants, bars, and coffee shops and the area closes down before the neighboring gas lamp area.
- 5/5
Parking is amazing on the weekend. Room is clean. Air conditioning, personally, wasn't great. The room has window but it is fixed pane window. It was a little humid during the day because of the direct sun. Great location for a weekend get away. We love Little Italy of San Diego. We didn't bother to drive anywhere for 3 days. Downstairs of the hotel, Caffe Italia serve authentic Sicilian espresso, it was so good we had to order it twice. Saturday, Little Italy host one of the best Farmer's Market on Date street. Landini's Pizzeria is one of the best pizza we ate in town and ILLANDO upstairs of Landini's serve one of the best Tortelloni al Brasato I have ever ate. Overall, it was one of the best 3 days weekend we have enjoyed in a while.

We love getting away to Little Italy and staying here. You can't beat the location in Little Italy. Everything is clean, and staff friendly and helpful.
- 4/5
Room was very clean, smelled nice and bathroom was spotless. Every single employee we dealt with was very pleasant and helpful. The rooms are small but we knew that before we arrived. The hotel is located right at the Center of Little Italy. There are dozens of great places to eat within walking distance.Parking is tricky and can be pricey but we paid for Friday night through Sunday morning and then moved our car to a regular parking spot as Sunday through 8:00 am Monday is free. If you want to be where the action is , stay at La Pensione. The nearby Italian coffee shop was fabulous!!
- 3/5
The parking structure was under construction. No parking provided.
- 5/5
Parking was a bit tricky as the garage was under construction, but overall a great experience. Staff was great and location was perfect!
- 4/5
No parking. Very hard room was ok could use an upgrade no maid need to stay somewhere else next time😵💫
- 5/5
We had a great time! The staff was so friendly and Saturday morning we woke up to a farmer's market right outside the hotel :)
- 3/5
You will not be able to avoid this no matter what you try. If you’re an early riser you’ll be fine. If you were looking forward to a beautiful and peaceful vacation where you can sleep in leisurely (like I was), Do Not Book. Staff was indifferent to even rude about this taking place, making the whole situation even worst. They had the opportunity to make the best of a bad situation, but made it worst. The good: location is perfect for walking and getting to airport. Lots to eat and entertain nearby. I suspect the cheaper price retrospectively was due to property knowing it was being jack hammered at 7:30AM. If the price is 2-3x under normal conditions I would not think it is worth it for how small the room was, and for how little amenities are offered Bed and pillows were super comfy. Some rooms face an inside wall, while others give beautiful bay views. Be careful walking on side streets at night like to the 7-11 nearby, typical for any bigger city. Lots of homeless people nearby. Stick to main roads. I feel deceived booking here, zero mention on website or upon check-in of reno. I never would have booked this had I known.

Location to restaurants,sight-seeing, and public transportation. Can safely walk in the evening .Configuration of room.Head of bed not visible when doors open. When toilet flushed, took a while to reset. Desk lamp could have more level lighting

Great location and really great staff. Close to the airport and in the middle of everything. However, if you are a light sleeper this hotel is on a late-night street with lots of music and people.
- 5/5
Great location. Stylish boutique hotel. Friendly staff.
- 2/5
We chose this hotel for the location. It’s in the heart of Little Italy, close to the trolley and an easy Uber ride to the Zoo. The staff were friendly and helpful. The hotel itself is run down, the rooms are small, the bathroom was tiny, black and had poor lighting. We chose the largest room and paid for the 2 queen beds just for the extra room. This room had 2 doors to a balcony that doesn’t get more than a cursory sweeping once in a while. The plaza across the street is fully lit up all night long. Because of that the pathetic shades over the full length windows in the doors do not keep any of the light out. The shades hang about an inch away from the door and barely cover the glass. The TV was only 32” on a large wall and lost connection every 5 minutes making it useless. There is no coffee maker in the room but they do provide coffee and tea in the lobby. The hotel has no parking and parking in that area runs about $30-$50 for 4 hours. The best we found was about 6 blocks away near the freeway, no security, for $30 for 10 hrs. The hotel has a beautiful jasmine plant in front that smelled amazing. Unfortunately a homeless man took up residence right there every evening. The hotel was an experience, love Little Italy but would never stay there again.
- 3/5
We were put in room 202 directly across from the elevator. The sink was outside the bathroom. The one ceiling light over the sink was dim yellow light and off-center so it was difficult to see yourself clearly when getting ready. The mirror over the sink was the only mirror in the room… no full length mirror. So just hope for the best when you get dressed and leave. The bathroom had no ventilation and there were water and rust marks on the cover where I imagine a dehumidifier/fan should have been. So just imagine when you do number 2 or shower the only way to ventilate the room is to leave the bathroom door open and open the one window otherwise the room smells it is damp from humidity. Our bed was firm to hard and the pillows were small and provided no neck support even when stacked on top of each other. Sleep was painful and minimal. Air conditioning is mounted on the wall next to the bed and blows directly on you. There’s no way to escape that unless you turn it off or sit at the foot of the bed, or go into the bathroom, or stand behind the entrance door which is next to the sink. There is no guest parking so you park on the street where parking is limited. At 174 a night (including tax) I guess we were paying for the neighborhood, as Little Italy is a quaint lovely area with great dining and charming people. Hopefully the other rooms are better. It was our first time here so maybe just unlucky.

Good
- 4.5/5
Great location, clean room. Comfortable bed and pillows Our room was on the 3rd floor and air conditioner worked but did not cool the room as much as we liked. The hotel staff offered to switch our room and although air conditioner worked much better, it made a loud buzzing noise the entire time
- 2/5
The staff was largely unhelpful, the WiFi never worked properly, and even the room phone didn’t work. The bed was also extremely soft and uncomfortable. What really ruined the stay, though, was the construction. We understood there would be some noise, but this was far beyond normal construction inconvenience. The jackhammering was so loud and constant that the room literally shook during the day, making it impossible to relax or even stay in the room. It also continued past the posted hours, which made it even more frustrating. I try to be understanding about things like this, but for the price of a hotel stay, this simply wasn’t reasonable.
- 4/5
Great location, small but comfortable room, good coffee shop downstairs. TV was old, they don’t do daily cleaning unless you ask, windows were drafty but it’s not like it’s freezing. Close to public transit, no need for car/parking.
- 5/5
Everything was great. The only slight issue was the noise outside due to construction but that’s out of the property’s control
- 5/5
This hotel is situated very nicely on Little Italy. Lots of restaurants and bars to walk to. Also walking distance to the harbor is short as well. The staff were great, the room was exactly as advertised and very clean. Another great thing is there is an attached coffee shop with plenty to chose from.
- 5/5
There is no parking but we parked 7 mins walk away for free overnight, it was not a problem. Overall, great value.
- 5/5
Great location. Room was small but clean and well maintained building. Definitely would stay again.
- 4/5
They have a parking garage…which they advised it was first come because it’s small but this last time it’s being renovated and there is no overnight parking close by…
- 4/5
The room was nice, however needed a deep clean. Mattress was comfortable
- 4/5
AC works fine but it is not cooling
- 3/5
This is a fabulous location and the room was pretty big for an older hotel - no real ambiance but roomy & comfortable. There was some fairly significant construction going on during our stay, which meant the parking garage was closed – that would’ve been nice to know ahead of time because we probably wouldn’t have rented a car for our entire stay. The construction was also noisy the 1st morning & led to fire alarms going off early the next morning and the elevator being out of commission the day we checked out. In general, it didn’t seem like the staff was terribly concerned about any of these things and the service just wasn’t great. The property is a little worn but charming, and it really is a great location for exploring little Italy and super quick ride from the airport and easy access to the trolley for going downtown/to the ballpark or to old town to explore. Great option if you want to skip the rental car and just explore what is available to you within walking/trolley/lyft distance.. I probably would’ve rated a bit higher where it not for the construction and lack of communication/care from the staff.
- 5/5
Staff were very friendly and the property was very unique. Great find.
- 4/5
Place itself was fairly clean and the staff was excellent. Very accommodating towards the demolition and reconstruction of the garage underneath the hotel.
- 5/5
Amazing and the staff is so so so nice.
- 4/5
This is a will maintained efficiency hotel. It's clean and nicely decorated. The woman who checked me in was most helpful with parking. Sadly, they're taking out their basement parking and putting in a restaurant. I will stay again, as I live in Encinitas, attend wine dinners in Little Italy, and prefer paying for a night's stay versus taking home a late night ride service. The bed is comfortable, the water is hot, Alf there is Caffe Italia right downstairs connected by a patio.
- 1/5
The Hotel is undergoing renovations and the noise levels were extremely annoying. When we checked in, no one let us know that there was construction and that it would be loud. We were not able to get good rest. We ended up checking out early and not enjoy our stay. As a courtesy they should mentioned something during check in.
- 3/5
No parking, clean room but toiletries wouldn’t get restocked, no cleaning throughout our stay there
- 3/5
They're was no parking. You have to park in a parking lot at an extra fee.
- 5/5
Street parking is busy
- 5/5
Great location in San Diego’s Little Italy neighborhood. Smaller than average room, but I don’t require much space for just one night stay. If you would like bc a room with a balcony - request room 302.
- 5/5
Parking was tight for my Suv but we made it work somehow.
- 5/5
Very friendly and helpful staff. Clean rooms. Excellent location in Little Italy.
- 5/5
We've stayed here before. The rooms are small and it is dated but clean and the location is perfect in Little Italy. Team members are wonderful and the hotel feels safe. We recommend.
- 5/5
Con: TV did not work and stated "no signal"
- 3/5
Doesn’t have parking
- 5/5
The property was central to everything that we needed for our trip
- 2/5
This place is a dump. Not at all like the photos. Coffee in the morning in their conference room is barest minimum effort and probably better not to even be offered given the cafes near by. Dingey and depressing. Great location, but that’s about all to recommend it.
- 5/5
Staff friendly and professional
- 3/5
Great location .But room was not cleaned in first day, because we did not aske about this. Its no coffee or water in a room.
- 5/5
Overall positive experience
- 2/5
i usually stay here for the location because its hard to beat, but this last stay i had was a rough one. the construction downstairs in the garage was terribly loud first thing in the morning lasting throughout the day. the room felt musty and the air conditioner is outdated and barely working. a closer look at certain areas of the room you can tell it is uncared for and unclean. the bed and pillows are lumpy and uncomfortable. its a shame. the price this time around as well was more than usual and to be charging me more while very disruptive construction is going on which is causing a parking problem where im having to pay ridiculous amounts at the spot across the street doesn't make any sense to me. if the up-charge is because they dont have people paying for the parking they usually offer, it’s outrageous and shameful.
- 3/5
Front desk staff Lindsey and crew were excellent. Location is great if you plan to spend time in Little Italy. Parking is difficult.
- 5/5
This is the best spot in San Diego's Little Italy.
- 5/5
Super friendly helpful staff. Boutique hotel. Great location! Fluffy down bed.
- 5/5
Clean, convenient great location and amazing staff! I will be back and book here again.
- 4/5
The staff were absolutely wonderful, so cheerful and kind. The location was the best part. It could use some updates and the wifi didn't work great but overall I'd recommend based on the staff and location
- 1/5
This hotel is not as advertised, small rooms, old deco and not very clean. AC not on when arrived and took forever to cool off. The pictures on site do not match rooms at all and hotel smells musty
- 5/5
Older property but very clean and comfortable. All our interactions with the associates were excellent.
- 3/5
Staff were very friendly, but room was run down. Light fixtures were broken. Hair on the bathroom floor that was very clearly not mine. I wanted to like it more- but it needs to be updated.
- 4/5
Perfect and safe area to lay your head at night and explore the city by foot during the day. Little Italy market on Wednesday and Saturday are nice.
- 4/5
Was good for a one night stay. The light did not work in the bathroom but there was enough light from the room for my morning shower. I’m sure they realized when housekeeping came in and hopefully it is fixed for the next guests. Area around the hotel was very busy and pretty noisy at night, not the hotels fault but wanted others to be aware.
- 4/5
It's located literally in the heart of Little Italy, but that also meant that at 7:00 in the morning a semi-truck pulled up across from our room with the engine idling for over an hour -- at decibels close to a helicopter circling overhead. Besides loud street noise and few amenities (for example, no carafe for boiling water for tea/coffee), we enjoyed our stay. And there is a café downstairs. The staff is very friendly and helpful. The beds were so comfortable (mattress on the harder side is our preference) with a variety of pillows to choose from. The room was super clean. It's bare bones but a good value and all you need.
- 4/5
The front desk team are so welcoming and efficient. Gold stars.
- 4/5
Friendly front desk staff. Room clean but shows some wear. Minimal amenities. Would stay again.
- 5/5
Staff were extremely helpful and very knowledgeable about different places to visit that were near our location.

Such a charming place! Great location in Little Italy. We cannot wait to stay here again. Our pre-teens also enjoyed it. The staff was awesome, too.
- 5/5
It’s a very solid hotel that gets the job done. Staff is easy going and helpful and it’s next to everything. Does it have all the frills in the world? No, but it’s really solid.
- 5/5
Very good location. A little noisy at night with the random person screaming out on the streets somewhere the first night but all in all a very good little hotel. Excellent little breakfast restaurant across the street also
- 4/5
Excellent location. Hotel was honestly great the only drawback was bad wifi. Wifi in room was unusable. Otherwise would stay here again.
- 5/5
The room was clean bed was comfortable and location is amazing
- 5/5
Everything was perfect except parking
- 5/5
Ac did not work well compared to the other rooms my family stayed in
- 5/5
The best
- 3/5
Staff are friendly. Rooms aren’t clean daily like hotel. Mattress and pillows are not comfortable, get soreness.
- 5/5
The room was small but quaint. Smelled a little musty but turning on the a/c helped tremendously, which was a nice mini split. Bathroom was nicely updated. Bed was comfortable. Fantastic location in Little Italy, just steps from the Little Italy sign on India St. Great restaurants that are walking distance. Great value for the money. All the front desk staff were very nice and welcoming.
- 5/5
The room was very clean, smelled nice, tiny, and the room was a bit hot. Overall, would stay again! Staff were friendly and accomodating.
- 3/5
Great location in Little Italy. Rooms are very small.
- 5/5
Clean
- 5/5
Air con was good just need to leave it on when leave but overall it worked great. Many things to do around the area as well!
- 4/5
The location is convenient. Rrviews about the wifi are accurate. It's very slow. The front desk people were exceptional, friendly and caring except for Audrey. I requested that my room be cleaned as i was leaving for my business meeting. When i returned, it was not cleaned.
- 3/5
Small rooms, sink backed up, shower head came from ceiling and was backward and patch work to cover up room falling apart.
- 5/5
Clean room. Really tiny but honestly had everything u need and it was really clean and comfortable and super close to everything in Little Italy so no complaints about location. On site parking was probably my only concern because it’s so limited and it’s an additional $35 a night but that’s about it.
- 3/5
WiFi was cutting out, a place to enjoy little Italy, and travel out. No amenities so it’s a place to sleep and shower. Beware of under ground parking, very small
- 5/5
Clean room small and cozy great location to everything
- 2/5
Found roaches in the room. Felt like staying in a college dorm. I’d skip this place.
- 5/5
Fantastic location. Would stay again
- 3/5
Walls needed to be dusted. Caulking around sink needs to be replaced. Elevator was very slow, delayed and lagged.
- 2/5
The room itself is a bit below average. Amenities are sparse, the bathroom sink is so high you can't easily use it, the room was very small so it was hard to fit luggage, the bedding isn't great, and the A/C unit was so caked with years of dust and grime. This is really a place you stay so you can be in the right location and not much else.
- 5/5
Excellent location
- 4/5
Maid didn't come day 2 despite taking off Do Not Disturb sign.
- 5/5
staff was very friendly and helpful. the rooms were clean just a bit humid.
- 5/5
Best location ever! Joe the manager was the best! Very helpful!
- 5/5
Perfect location in Little Italy
- 5/5
Staff were extremely friendly and helped with our air conditioner issues. Only minor issues were no coffee or breakfast, although a coffee place is close by. They really should provide more than 2 hangers as well. Could have called down I'm sure though.
- 4/5
The only downside to this hotel is that there were no amenities whatsoever. No pool no Jacuzzi.
- 4/5
Location, location, location! The hotel is right in the center of Little Italy, which worked perfectly for our vacation.
- 4/5
Nice staff.
- 2/5
The bed was a Full not a Queen. It was not a very clean room and the TV was tiny. We could hear everything in the hallway, other rooms and outside. The cleaning staff was nice just too much up keep.

Staff were great
- 5/5
Nice clean room. Bath remodel excellent.
- 5/5
Rooms where small but very walkable area, staff was awesome
- 5/5
Cute view of the little Italy
- 5/5
Great staff, clean room, central location, good vibes
- 5/5
I the room was perfect very nice and cozy romantic Roberto on the staff in the morning made me coffee early because I was on a different time zone and my husband was snoring. I really appreciated that and they went out of their way to be very courteous all of the staff.
- 2/5
We came back to our room in the afternoon after being out in the morning and our room wasn’t made and we called the front desk and they mentioned that rooms are only made upon request but didn’t inform of this information when we were checking in and we we asked if we can request it to be cleaned and new towels stocked they said it was too late in the day (it was 3:15 at the time) because the cleaners leave by 4 PM. The windows were covered in dust. There were tiny bottles of shampoo, conditioner, shower gel for 2 people.
- 3/5
Noisy. This was the third time we stayed there very first time it was this bad.
- 5/5
Clean, great location
- 4/5
The location was the best part. Right in the middle of Little Italy. Woke up to the farmers market.
- 2/5
The windows were echoing rain noise in the room terribly. The loud noise of a faucet coming from another room during midnight was very annoying. The shower floor didn’t seem clean at all. There was no closet just a bar with hanger. Air conditioning unit box was broken, surprisingly it was very quiet and working well. The went plastic panel in the room was not fitted well, and you could see the stuff behind it. The plugs were worn out, bed was comfortable. Bathroom had a small window for ventilation to outside, and you have to open and close it, no fan in the bathroom.
- 5/5
Rooms were nice, clean and location was perfectly located close to all things in Little Italy. Room was bit small but it was sufficient for 2 people.
- 4/5
Helpful cordial staff.
- 5/5
Great location clean rooms friendly staff
- 5/5
Clean room. Friendly, helpful staff
- 5/5
Staff was amazing room was clean only thing was wish they had king sized beds
- 5/5
Excellent location and room are small yet good for a couple of days. Customer service was great.
- 4/5
Staff very friendly and helpful. Room clean.
- 1/5
It was shabby and parking was awful. It smelled and the bed was not comfortable. The only plus was the location
- 5/5
The stay was pleasant thanks to the staff. Rooms were clean and well maintained.
- 5/5
Staff was amazing! Housekeeping, front desk, everyone was great! Perfect location.
- 4/5
Staff was super friendly. Room not up to my standards for cleanliness, slow drain in the sink and just a trickle for water pressure in the shower. but I it wasn't enough to make me change rooms. No parking, had to pay a fortune at a pay lot because our minivan did not fit in the underground parking. So, there were issues. But the longer we stayed, the more I didn't notice so much. We were right in the heart of Little Italy and it was fantastic!
- 5/5
Clean, centrally located, eclectic decor, rooms were very dark for sleeping, beds were very comfortable.
- 4/5
Yes, the room was basically spotless and the staff was very nice. No particular amenities but lots of restaurants close by.
- 5/5
Great service
- 5/5
Cute, fun, comfortable
- 5/5
Rooms were very clean, staff was great and location could not have been better
- 5/5
As nice as this boutique hotel is the real treat was the friendly staff. Lindsey in particular made our stay a wonderful experience.
- 5/5
Yes, all good!
- 5/5
Lovely stay in the middle of Little Italy. Clean and stylish. Easy check-in and warm welcoming front desk staff. Comfortable beds and bedding. Small fridge in room. No coffee maker but tons with walking distance to grab a coffee.
- 5/5
Friendly staff, helpful and knowledgeable.
- 2/5
Room is too small and not clean
- 5/5
Great room! Wonderful customer service/ front desk!
- 5/5
We have stayed here several times. You can’t beat the location in Little Italy. Rooms are small but clean and comfortable, staff is very friendly, and rates are very reasonable. We will be back!
- 3/5
The place is old and kind of dumpy and not inexpensive (considering the condition and size of rooms). The rooms are tiny. Sadly homeless folks were outside the front door. We stayed one night and canceled the rest of our stay. From our perspective be aware. If this kind of hotel suits, great. If not, keep lookingg

Last time we stayed in San Diego at a different hotel. We found about La Pensione when we took the hop on-hop off trolley. We hopped off in Little Italy and fell in love! Little Italy is amazing! La Pensione is right in the heart of Little Italy. The plaza is right across the street and the weekly farmer's market is right outside the front door! This is a historic hotel but it's clean and comfortable. Service was always friendly and helpful too. The light rail is just a couple of blocks away. It's fast and cheap. We took the light rail to Old Town one day and Seaport Village another day. Both were awesome! We can't wait to stay again! Thank you!
- 3/5
Good location. Dated rooms.
- 5/5
Staff was helpful, kind, and polite. Everything was clean and quiet. Fantastic location. Very walkable
- 5/5
Great location and staff
- 5/5
Great location
- 3/5
Toilet broken, exhaust fan noise
- 4/5
Great location to walk to little Italy all the stores & restaurants.
- 5/5
My wife and I love staying here. The location couldn't be better for enjoying Little Italy, the staff couldn't be friendlier, and the rooms couldn't be cleaner. No matter what part of San Diego we're visiting, this is where we stay.
- 5/5
The staff were incredible and the room was clean and comfortable!
- 5/5
Staff was really helpful and room was great.
- 5/5
Clean room, helpful and friendly staff, great location to walk to restaurants.
- 2/5
AC did not work well!
- 3/5
The parking lot is hellish for the most experienced driver. They should invest in possibly parking cars across the street or invest in a valet. I did not like the location of my room it was outside of the main building. Although it overlooked little Italy I felt separated from the whole hotel experience.
- 4/5
Excellent location, top notch service and well priced hotel parking!
- 5/5
Great location
- 5/5
Everything worked smoothly
- 4/5
Front desk told me there was a double booking at check in. I was left to deal with this independently and after wasting an hour with Expedia, there was apparently, no issue at all. There is no pool onsite. Location is great for walking to anything in Little Italy
- 5/5
Great location and clean room.
- 5/5
We've stayed before and always enjoy it here. The rooms are small but always clean and all the team members are super friendly. It's a perfect place in Little Italy.
- 1/5
etc. The girl at the front desk did refer me to another hotel of which I am grateful.
- 5/5
The room was clean and functional. The staff were nice.
- 5/5
yes
- 3/5
property was mid. it served its purpose of an overnight stay. i wouldnt stay longer than that
- 5/5
This was my 2nd time staying here. Both were good experiences. Clean, basic hotel with friendly staff and great location. Transit close by we walked about 2 blocks to the station and quite literally feet away from Little Italy entrance. Farmers market right outside the front door every Saturday was an extra bonus.
- 5/5
Cute hotel in a perfect location right at entrance to Little Italy. Close to great restaurants. Nice coffee shop downstairs. Staff very nice. At least for now there is a small parking garage underground. I read that this may be taken out so check with the hotel directly.
- 5/5
Very cute and clean staff was extremely helpful
- 1/5
Room ceiling leaking because of the rain, completely soaked my bag and ruined my AirPods.
- 4/5
Great location!
- 3/5
Staff was great. Very small room, but great location. Bathroom had a stench upon arrival. Fire alarm was low on batteries, so randomly started beeping around 3AM. No on call help so we were told to take care of it ourselves. Parking was unavailable but understandable because of the holiday. Did get a later checkout.
- 2/5
No parking ,dirty rooms,
- 4/5
Room was a little dirty, one of the cabinet doors was broken and a light switch wasnt working correctly but other than that, great place to stay. The beds were insanely comfortable and they had a couple different pillows with different firmnesses on each bed.
- 4/5
HE ONLY SUGGESTION FOR IMPROVEMENT WOULD BE TO HAVE A VENDING MACHINE - SNACKS/DRINKS - IN THE HOTEL.
- 5/5
A huge plus for me personally was the in-room fridge & the microwave conveniently located in the conference room on the first floor--perfect for guests like me who tend to eat in the room while others are asleep. Those little details made a big difference. What truly sets this hotel apart, though, is the stellar customer service. A special shout-out to Anneliese & Joe at the front desk--they were outstanding. Anneliese's lovely attitude, warm smile & welcoming energy made us feel like we were VIPs. She was incredibly patient & accommodating, even taking the time to show us three different rooms so we could choose the one that suited us best for our Anniversary stay. We ultimately chose the corner room & it was absolutely the right decision. With four full-length windows spanning both walls of the corner room, the view was extraordinary--perfectly capturing the charm & vibrant energy of Little Italy. It was the best of both worlds: the comfort & coziness of being indoors while soaking in the sights, movement & character of the surrounding city. Watching Little Italy come alive from the room was truly a highlight of our stay. Both Anneliese & Joe were also super informative, offering great
- 5/5
Room was clean and spacious. Shower pressure was terrible. It had very little pressure. Checking in and out was very easy. We encountered one female staff who was texting while helping us. She said she would have towels sent to our room but they never came.
- 5/5
Great check-in experience, convenient parking, the room was clean and bed was comfortable. The city view option was exceptionally pleasant. Will stay again!
- 5/5
A nice boutique hotel, right in the middle of Little Italy. The rooms are tiny, but that is part of the charm,
- 4/5
small room, god location, great for the price
- 5/5
always delighted to stay at Le Pensione!
- 5/5
Every aspect was excellent
- 3/5
The pictures of the rooms on the site don't match the actual quality of the rooms. The location is great, staff is very helpful, but the rooms are not at all what I was expecting. The rooms are clean but there were chips in the walls, baseboards, carpet fraying, and a weird smell when you first walk in that smelled somewhat like cigarettes. Perhaps it was a smoking room a long time ago and the smell is stuck in the walls. Neighborhood was quiet at night when I was there which was nice.
- 5/5
Great stay and helpful staff!
- 1/5
Hotel and staff were terrible and disgusting - our group had to forfeit stay and get another hotel!
- 1/5
Nonstop noise at 4am til…( bottles clicking, trash trucks etc) definitely won’t stay here again.
- 3/5
The location was great for our needs because our son and new daughter in law live around the corner. But the rooms are very very small. The morning coffee was hard to get t, around the corner and up and down stairs. Why not just have the coffee in the lobby? Little Italy was great!! This place is about location, not comfortable.
- 4/5
Yes room was very clean, comfortable beds very friendly staff.
- 5/5
The staff was excellent, both friendly and helpful. The room was small but clean and functional with a comfortable bed. We loved the location.
- 2/5
The air conditioning unit had a ton of dust in the vent which looked neglected. The room was musty and dank. Bed was comfortable though and people friendly. Great location too! When we visit again, we will be finding another place to stay.
- 5/5
Friendly, helpful, clean and convenient
- 5/5
It was a good location
- 3/5
Somewhat
- 4/5
Courteous staff, loved our corner room that overlooked the Main Street and piazza. Perfect location and parking was easy in the garage.
- 4/5
A/C was sufficient but could have been stronger, hotel is a little dated but well upkept. Location is amazing
- 4/5
Perfect location
- 5/5
The only issue that kept me from eating certain aspects of the hotel at 4 instead of 5 was that the carpet needs to be replaced as it was somewhat stained or… not very clean, anyway. Everything else was great.
- 5/5
Small room if you get the queen room but overall was clean and cozy. Parking is tight.
- 5/5
The Hotel is perfect for a weekend stay for 2. Rooms are small but hey they are only for sleeping! Great location in Little Italy!
- 4/5
AC blew directly on my head in the bed.
- 5/5
All good
- 4/5
Perfect location to walk Little Italy, but be prepared for a restless sleep with the amount of noise. Nothing about the sleep I had while staying here was restful, you can hear all the city sounds, all night
- 5/5
Friendly staff, great location, spacious room
- 4/5
Nice spot to overnight before our cruise.
- 5/5
It’s a boutique hotel with small but well appointed rooms. The only negative, for people with mobility issues, are the amount of steps to enter the building. However, the location is fantastic. It’s right in “Little Italy” and very close to the cruise ports.
- 5/5
Great location, the staff and cleanliness was great as well, I would definitely stay here again.
- 5/5
The front desk staff was great day and night shift. Also, the water pressure was amazing in the shower.
- 5/5
Good service
- 4/5
Great location. Quick $10 uber ride to the cruise port.
- 5/5
Always enjoy my stay here. Great location in heart of Little Italy
- 5/5
Friendly staff, very nice room, great location!
- 5/5
Good service.
- 5/5
Great place
- 5/5
We love this hotel. The staff was super friendly and helpful. The hotel is special to us as we stayed here many years ago before renovations. It remains quaint and beautiful with a spectacular view of the city. The room is small but cozy and very clean. Though more renovations are being done, we still had use of amenities in the conference room where you can meet other guests. The atrium is open and adorable with an attached cafe that is wonderful.
- 5/5
AC worked well
- 5/5
Great location.
- 2/5
It was just fair. Beds and pillows were uncomfortable. It was just a place to stay a night or two at most. Bums sleeping outside the hotel when we came in. Rebecca was the best!
- 1/5
Room was not well ventilated. The power went out and the shower leaked into the room. The room smelled musty. Great area to be in but we wont be staying at this hotel again.
- 5/5
Friendly, helpful staff and clean well appointed rooms.
- 5/5
The staff and location stood out the most. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The location was excellent, in the heart of a busy neighborhood. The café downstairs and the pizzeria made it even better for mornings and lunchtime, where we got a coffee or a bite to eat and sat in the piazza. The room was clean but definitely needed a deep clean, but nothing was gross or alarming. It is a tight room, but we weren't going to spend allot of time in the room anyway. Highly recommend. We will be returning of we get a chance to visit SD again.
- 4/5
Great location
- 4/5
Nice staff, clean small room, great location, power went out in morning
- 3/5
If you are not having daily housekeeping, the room should have 2sets of towels for each guest with enough soap , toilet paper for three days.
- 2/5
Room was great, late night staff courteous and helpful BUT the daytime front desk woman mostly engaged with was consistently HORRIBLE with customer service through my long weekend stay. She was all smiles with her colleagues (clearly having fun with them), but facial expression would turn to scowl as soon as a guest walked up. She also avoided engaging with customers as best she could, acted like she was bothered when she did need to engage. You have to wonder why some people would sign up for or be hired for such an important customer-facing position. Leave it to bad customer service to ruin an otherwise pleasant stay.
- 3/5
Had to request the room to be cleaned but that may be protocol nowadays, location is amazing! Couldn’t ask for better, parking be forewarned, smaller vehicle is better…the garage is tiny and its first come first serve for spots, I had rented a small suv and it was a struggle except for spot 3 *excellent !! I will come back here because of location! It’s awesome ! Maybe some more stiffer pillows! ?? Idk other than that ts awesome!
- 5/5
Clean room and nice view of the street. Exceptional staff at all times. Tookcare of any and every issue that I had, which were few. When I return to San Diego I already know where I'm staying.
- 5/5
Refreshing to be in the company of professionals in customer service.
- 3/5
Room was small. No closet. Some folks staying on our floor were noisy. AC unit was full of dust.
- 1/5
Wouldn’t stay here again, the ac doesn’t work and when asking for service to fix it, staff members didn’t do anything and said to deal with it. Room service like clean sheets and towels was not expected unless we requested it. The pictures online do not represent what the rooms look like at all.
- 3/5
It was a nice place to stay at due to it being close to gaslamp & other nice restaurants. There had been a power outage when we arrived to check in so that was a bummer. The AC had leaked water all over our clothes. Rooms are definitely small.
- 3/5
Hotel La Pensione’s needs better Ac units, and truck drivers have no chance of parking in the hotel parking garage.
- 5/5
This was a good hotel in a fantastic location. Desk staff was great and very accommodating. The room was a bit dated but still very nice with a great view. Again the location was fantastic.
- 5/5
Hotel is located at the heart of Little Italy so you get a lot of food and coffee option, farmers market will be right in front of it on Saturdays so it's great if you like shopping for local produce or try new foods. It'll get a bit noisy at night from the nightlife but I had no trouble sleeping, room is clean, but the hotel's layout can get confusing if you are taking the stairs which I recommend since the elevator is slow.
- 5/5
The staff were very kind and accommodating. Everything was walking distance with many delicious options. Will definitely visit again
- 5/5
La Pensione was perfectly located in Little Italy. I loved the walk ability. We could even walk to the bay and relax by the water, buy souvenirs, or visit museums. The hotel was about 10 minutes by car from the airport, so instead of taking an Uber for $45, we caught the city bus from the airport to a place close to the hotel and walked about 10 minutes to the hotel. This was a great experience all by itself. The lobby was chic but our room (418), needed some updates. The view of Little Italy from the room was amazing. I did appreciate bathe number of big bath towels they initially provided knowing that housekeeping is only upon request. I would definitely stay here again.
- 5/5
The room was perfect size for the night and the area was super walkable and had great dining options.
- 5/5
Lots of dining options walkable from the hotel. Great location!
- 5/5
Great place to stay. No frills but great area.
- 4/5
Excellent customer service! 😀
- 3/5
Location was great
- 4/5
Room c
- 5/5
Super friendly and helpful
- 5/5
Interesting location.
- 5/5
Parking options were only issue
- 4/5
Best location in the heart of little Italy!
- 5/5
Great boutique hotel in the heart of Little Italy. Just steps away from cafes, rooftop bars and lounges, and some of the best Italian restaurants. The hotel staff were friendly and professional. The rooms were small but decent and could benefit from some upgrades and renovations.
- 4/5
The staff was very friendly and the atmosphere when you walk in is very pretty. The rooms are small, but I didn’t mind. I did think the room cleanliness could be higher since there was dust in the corners of the room… but the bed and bathroom were very clean. The location is prime and walking distance from many amazing restaurants. Overall, a great stay!
- 5/5
The hotel is walking distance to local restaurants and bars.
- 5/5
Great location!
- 5/5
Great location. They let us check out 1 hr later which worked great because I was with my little kid. Would recommend.
- 5/5
We've stayed here before and will again. The rooms are small but has everything we need to enjo San Diego.
- 5/5
Very happy with our stay
- 5/5
Underground parking was awesome
- 3/5
Not impressed
- 5/5
Late-night check-in service offered. Super nice front desk. I stayed one night as a woman by myself and felt really safe. It is smack dab in Little Italy, so extremely convenient. In terms of safety, it's full of people during the day until late at night, around 10-11 pm, where it gets pretty quiet. Even then, during the day, the noise doesn't wake you up in the morning. There are a couple of homeless people around, but nothing to worry about. Solid choice!
- 5/5
In the heart of it all. Welcome to little Italy
- 4/5
Very convenient that you can walk to places like the bay. I am definitely going back to La Pensione.
- 5/5
Very nice
- 5/5
Staff were cordial and easy to talk to and accommodating. Paulina has great taste in music!!! The rooms are a little small but there is so much to do you almost forget about. It’s a perfect spot to people watch from our window and convenient to all the restaurants and bars nearby.
- 3/5
Keys did not work when I returned to hotel again had to go back to front desk. I have stayed here many times no issues. Just a little bit of a inconvenience.
- 4/5
Room was a bit small but otherwise the property was perfect. Lots of food options nearby and walkable to weekend activities.
- 3/5
We won’t stay here again, it was not clean and there were bugs living in the grout cracks of the bathrooms. Some of the staff were very kind and others were rude.
- 4/5
Homeless sleeping at the steps.
- 3/5
Staff was a little rude. Parking is hard to fit but they have it available. The room was good enough for our 2 night stay but the AC barely worked. Loved how close it was to everything
- 4/5
Pleasant staff and great location. Rooms were small but decent overall.
- 5/5
Loved the location and places to eat ina walking distant.
- 5/5
Nice neighborhood, fast and easy check in, lots of restaurants and bars in surrounding area.
- 5/5
Clean and in the middle of little Italy with walking distance to all the great restaurants. Fun stay!
- 5/5
great location and amenities. Close to food and fun.
- 5/5
The room was decent for just a short getaway trip. It’s located in the center of Lite Italy with a great selection of restaurants. The Saturday farmer’s market is just outside the door of this location. The amenities in the room at okay. Toilet paper is terrible - like sand paper.
- 5/5
Loved my stay here! The staff deserves 10 stars for how friendly they were. I felt extremely welcomed and they were so accommodating. The location is close to transit which is nice if you do not have a vehicle. Being a solo traveler, the room was perfectly sized for my needs. I also could not hear anyone around me, which was another plus. Definitely will stay again next time I’m in the area.
- 4/5
Great place to stay they are right in the middle of everything
- 4/5
The location of the property is great. There are several restaurants in walking distance and the trolley is a couple of blocks from the hotel. What I did not take into consideration is the noise from late night events or the early morning deliveries to the restaurants nearby. If you are light sleeper this may impact your sleep.
- 4/5
Room is small and needs some renovation, location is good, needs to improve their customer service, the room did not have the number on the door it took me sometime to figure it out, also I needed to ask about the area, why receptionist did not advice about the number and what we can do in the area? Any recommendations?
- 5/5
Perfect place to stay in the heart of little Italy.
- 4/5
Liked that it was in the middle of everything didn’t need to drive anywhere. The parking spaces are very small but felt safe leaving my car there. The AC worked well but is old and made a noise while on and the room had no ventilation. Also was able to hear someone snoring next door so thin walls. It was okay though if needed I would stay there again.
- 5/5
Great location in Little Italy. Surrounded by restaurants, bars, shops. Loved our visit.
- 1/5
This hotel is more like a motel 6 you have to get an iron and toilet paper from the front desk there is no daily cleaning! The bed had hairs on it the shower was not cleaned well the AC was dusty I sneezed all night long my allergies was really bad. It smelled moldy in my room it was a lot of dust in the carpet the lobby pictures on Expedia is not how the lobby look in person the location is great but the hotel is horrible I would never stay here again!
- 4/5
Staff all excellent and so helpful Top notch
- 5/5
Love it
- 5/5
A great and non-corporate hotel in the heart of Little Italy. Dozens of dining options to walk to, and only 10 minutes from the airport. A nice home base.
- 4/5
Property was in a great location if you want to be close to restaurants and the city action. Hotel staff was super friendly and check in was really quick. The only downside was that parking was expensive and in a very very small underground lot. I wouldn’t recommend if you are traveling solo or have a car bigger than a sedan. Parking was stressful.
- 3/5
I've stayed here many times over the last two years, but this time I found the room to need some work. The smell was musty (like a bit of mildew in the AC perhaps), the area in front of the hotel smelled like dog poo every time I walked in or out, and overall the property is just a little grody. Some fresh paint on the trim in the rooms and cleaning the AC would go a long way, I think. I still had a good experience with the comfy bed etc. Staff are always super pleasant and helpful. Just needs a bit of love.
- 5/5
.
- 5/5
Farmers market on Saturdays from 8-2 was a wonderful surprise. No microwave. No daily cleaning service unless you request it. No hot water or complimentary coffee in the rooms. Bottled water upon request. Often staff looked put out / bothered when asked questions at the front desk. Cute neighborhood, close to the harbor, great eating options all around.
- 5/5
Was a great experience
- 5/5
Friendly staff, lot of food options nearby
- 5/5
Fun area to be in. Good coffee nearby.
- 5/5
Always my family go to- and we love this place ! Being Sicilian , when I come to stay in San Diego - we come and stay at La Pensione ALWAYS! The location of this charming hotel is right in the heart of little Italy 🇮🇹❤️the staff is welcoming and accommodating! Thank you for another wonderful stay , see you soon! Ciao
- 3/5
Hotel had a hostile feel. Clean but dated. Bed was ok, pillows were terrible some hard as a rock others flimsy. Very small room, very small tv, no in room coffee, limited amenities. Having small fridge a plus. Awesome as it was right in little italy, close to quality food and activities. Best part of staying there. Service was average, inconsistent. For example heard a guest offered water on check in, we were not. Check out very minimal engagement or gratitude. Did not service room or replenish toiletries.
- 3/5
Room was hard to navigate. Bed was comfortable. Halls and room were less than clean. Wallpaper was torn. Staff failed to inform us of the farmers market taking place the morning after our checkin. Great city location but loud.
- 3/5
The room was nice, great location, and the staff were friendly and helpful. The MTS Trolley is blocks away and for $2.50/ride it will take you to different tourist areas in town. Saved me a lot of $ in ubers. The little italy area is lively so it is noisy at night. On my last night there was a giant cockroach in my room. The maintenance worker claimed he found it outside my room in the hallway and killed it and threw it out. I call bs! No proof, didn't happen. Also claimed there were no rooms open that night so needless to say i did not get much sleep.
- 5/5
Didn’t realize this is in the heart of little Italy. 8 min walk from the train station. Modernized quaint hotel. Rooms aren’t big but super cozy, updated and well kept. Walk out and you’re right at the farmers market on Saturday mornings. If you haven’t experienced the little Italy farmers market then you’re missing out ! The hotel provides free water bottles . We didn’t anticipate 88 degree weather in San Diego so the water came in handy. They also provide tea / coffee in the mornings. It’s a prime location. Restaurants, bars, a night club across the street. Amazing staff to top it off. 100% recommend. We will be back La Pensione. Thank you for a great Labor Day weekend.
- 5/5
Right in the heart of Little Italy. Close to everything. Cute property and nice staff
- 3/5
Minimal amenities. Smelly garage.
- 2/5
Terrible
- 5/5
The AC was noisy in our room and the staff were quick to take care of us and move us to another room. They even moved our belongings for us! Excellent service!
- 4/5
Aside from the parking everything was good!
- 5/5
Clean rooms
- 2/5
The rooms are TINY. Fine if you’re traveling alone but not enough for two or more. Room has a mini-fridge, but no microwave, so it’s kinda pointless. The rooms are mostly clean but the dressers could be replaced/updated. My room had spiders and termites, so keep an eye out. Also, the parking situation is unacceptable. $35 a DAY but no guaranteed parking in their extremely cramped underground lot. They warn you when you get there that your car needs to be compact, but every car down there was an SUV and it was impossible to move safely. The space is way too small to turn your car around if there are no spaces to park. You might literally have to back up and then back your way up the hill back onto the street. It’s that small! Shouldn’t even be allowed. Also they do NOTHING about the homeless people sleeping out the front of the building. Great location overall, but overpriced for the rooms/amenities
- 5/5
Great place. Great location. Exactly what you expect of boutique hotel.
- 3/5
Parking was terrible & not really clean.

Great hotel. Right in the middle of everything. Clean and comfortable.

Fix the Experience in all the rooms as they are wildly different. Consider more light and noise mitigation. The Air-conditioning is ineffective and inefficient. One room cold and never was a level temp, the other one was an oven. Had to borrow the fan from the “office.”

I love the area of Little Italy and the hotel La Pensione! My fifth time staying there!!!

The hotel is close to public transportation and perfect location to walk downtown or seaside Villa

Brandon is the best! Great customer service! Awesome location!

It was conveniently located. Their parking is an issue if you go on a busy weekend, and also be mindful that they run a farmers market on Saturday morning to the afternoon

The rooms are so small we barely had room to move around. It was ridiculously humid and muggy and the a/c made it worse. The bathroom REAKED of bleach and made my eyes burn.

Room had ac. But was very hot and uncomfortable. Thermostat is set to 68. But never got anywhere near that cool.

Small cute hotel in the heart of little Italy. It was perfect. Waking up to a Farmer market on Saturday morning was such a fun bonus!

The girls up front were friendly. It was fast check in.. close to everything. Will definitely be back again

The rooms are small. Someone kept smoking weed and the entire building, including my room smelled of weed.

The hotel is right in the heart of the action in Little Italy. Plenty of excellent food choices within a few steps of the front door.

Perfect stay enjoyed our time

We stayed for the weekend. And the hotel was amazing and it was in the middle of Little Italy (downtown). And a lot of the things we did was walkable. Will stay again!

In the heart of Little Italy, San Diego, love it!

Great location, lovely staff. Very European, small rooms but carefully appointed. Never got our AC to work, but never needed it. Entertaining street scene right out the door!

Great location, friendly staff, easy check in. Rooms are a bit small but was traveling solo so no big deal.

Excellent accomodations!

Unfortunately, a wheelchair could not fully access or move around the space. The room only had one queen bed, which was quite small for two people—even for those who are petite. In addition we experienced an event unrelated to accessibility in which I have chosen not to describe or get into too much details. However after sharing our experience and concerns, the staff, who were very friendly and accommodating, moved us the next day to a larger ADA room with two beds and much better accessibility. In both rooms, the bathrooms were ADA-compliant and a good size. The hotel itself is definitely older, and the rooms run small, but you’re really paying for the location. The lobby is charming and cozy, and there’s a nice little area on the first floor where you can sit, enjoy coffee, or have a meal. There’s also a cute coffee shop and an Italian restaurant conveniently connected to the hotel.

Location is top notch and walking distance to so many great restaurants, cafes, bakeries, bars, brew pubs, etc. plus a massive farmers market on Wed and Sat. Front desk staff were very friendly and helpful. Room was comfortable and quiet at night. Would stay again in a heartbeat.

The beds were comfortable, The rooms were soundproof, especially with little Italy right down below us and the extra blackout shades were very helpful for a good night sleep. The decor and the location of the hotel was perfect. The room was clean but the carpet needs to be updated though.

The place is run down in a noisy part of town, but very close to what appears to be popular restaurants. The price was good.

Staff was excellent

The location is amazing. The hotel itself is just ok. It is by far the smallest hotel room I have ever stayed in. There is literally no room for your suitcase. Our night lights above both night stands did not work. Our suitcase stand was broken (although no place to put it in the room). The food and restaurant locations around the hotel is the best. If you are looking for a room centrally located in Little Italy, stay here. You can't go wrong with the location.

I am not sure how this property got such high reviews. It's gotta be the location. After my stay this past weekend, I have to say, that was the only highlight of my stay, the location. Close to great dining options, walkable and we were pleasantly surprised with a farmers market on a Saturday that set up right in front of the hotel. Other than that, all bad. The rooms are smaller than what's pictured. Looks are deceiving. I know it's a boutique hotel but it felt like we were in a box. When we arrived in our room, there was no TV remote. We had to call the front desk to get a remote sent up and that took about 20 minutes. Mind you, this is a 4 floor boutique hotel. The rooms are in need of an upgrade. The carpets are dirty and the restrooms, although clean, were full of rust and water damage on the ceiling of the shower. Likely from years of steam. I also requested body wash since my wife and I ran out. It took them 30 minutes to get me the body wash. When they arrived to deliver it, the gentleman seemed annoyed and said he was sorry. That he was the only one working at the front desk and couldn't get to us any quicker. Overall, I had a poor experience during my stay. Little Italy is a fantastic location to stay in San Diego. But look for another hotel for your stay. The Pensione was a disappointment.

Great location in the heart of Little Italy. So close that on Saturday mornings starting at 6am you can hear the Farmers Market vendors setting up outside. Not fancy but would definitely stay there again!

I love the style of my hotel especially the cafe connected to the property. The room is a bit tight, if I wasn’t by myself. I probably would’ve booked somewhere else for better comfort. It’s the perfect location to try different restaurant in the area & not too far from the harbor for morning jogs or to watch the sunset.
- 3/5
Very friendly staff and convenient location. However some cleanliness issues- when we arrived the front desk staff was attempting to kill a roach near the entrance, there was also a roach in our room one morning. Also no daily cleaning services.
- 5/5
Great hotel, easy to get around. The staff is helpful and nice
- 5/5
The only thing I would call out is the sink is a bit high, if you are on the shorter side it might be difficult to use.
- 5/5
Lovely property in walking distance to a ton of great Little Italy restaurants. The room was small but clean and comfortable. Uber pickup is convenient. The street market on the weekend was a nice place to browse and pick up souvenirs. I would stay here again if I’m in San Diego.

Nice hotel, friendly staff, great location

Cute hotel in the heart of Little Italy. The rooms are adequately maintained, you could see dust build-up at the corners of the floors, and behind the furniture. Otherwise, the main room, bathroom and bed were clean. The bed was very comfortable and cozy. The area is highly walkable, with lots of good dining options for most diets, and you won’t have a problem catching a ride share if you don’t have a car. I’d definitely stay again.
