Reviews
The hotel is praised for its spacious rooms, friendly staff, and excellent location near Balboa Park and other attractions. However, many guests express frustration with the persistent timeshare sales pitches and lack of daily maid service.

It was good. Parking wasn’t ideal, but that was to be expected.

Coffee pot lacked instructions, A/C operation instructions not clear, and high pressure tactics to sell time shares to us was not appreciated.

Air conditioning didn't adequately cool room. Location was great, staff was friendly and helpful. Room was clean and comfortable (besides the temperature).

Travelled to this hotel with a young child, the hotel was accommodating with sleeping arrangements for an infant. The hotel offers a valet service which you basically have to use as parking is virtually non existent on the property, and they charge 30$ per night you park with valet overnight. The valet staff are mostly unprofessional and when we checked out our car reeked of weed to the point we needed to air the car out, super unprofessional and unacceptable particularly as it was a rental car and we were traveling with our baby. Raised the issue to management and was never contacted about it. Would avoid this property in the future and would advise against staying here unless there are other options available.

Clean rooms, gorgeous view from roof deck, convenient location close to Balboa Park. This is a time share with a sales crew that is always lingering and hosting sales pitches. I would not have booked this hotel if I would have known that.

The staff is very nice. The location is excellent. The rooms are clean, the kitchen, in our suite was well supplied. There was a dank odor in our room that didn’t go away until our HVAC system was active for almost a full day. The hallway had a similar odor They don’t do any housekeeping, but will replace towels if requested. There is nothing on the TV in the room. I don’t know why it’s there. The lone elevator is very out of date. The license expired in 2023. You get to a floor and you don’t know if the door is going to open or not. It always did, but it was such a long delay that we never stopped worrying, whether it was going to open or not. This was a constant problem on all floors. when prompted, the staff was very dismissive of this problem. The concierge was very focused on getting us to go to a meeting about joining their vacation club. He went on and on about the benefits. It was very hard to be courteous about our lack of interest. There is very good street parking adjacent to the hotel, you just need to sign up for an app to use each time you park. They have valet parking for $30 a day which we did not use. They write that off if you attend their reception for the vacation club. There is a small exercise room and a lounge and deck on the roof, which looked very nice, but we never utilized it.

As always we enjoy staying at the Inn at the Park. The room is well set up. , clean and comfortable. Anything extra we need the excellent staff is prompt at helping. View from the roof top over the bay is great. We used valet parking this time and it worked well. We have parked on the street along Balboa park on past visits, but the city recently changed parking rules, making it difficult to park overnight now. Wish there was an extra long table in bathroom for guests to store items. Would be very helpful for multiple people using the same room.

The hotel is quite old and my room was smelly. I left windows open and used my diffuser which helped. But the room is very big and I loved that. I loved the ability to cook if I wanted. The staff were great and very helpful. The gym is terrible-no weights. Just a treadmill, elliptical. That’s why I’m hiving it 4 stars. You are across the street from balboa park which is lovely. About a 10 min uber to the Gaslamp district and a 20 min uber to the beach. Walking distance to a few restaurants. Although my experience was good there I probably wouldn’t stay there again.

The kitchen was fully equipped and the room’s renovation was nicely done. Unfortunately the kitchen window had been painted shut, but using the ceiling made up for air flow.

Made reservation in May and paid in full. 24 hours prior to checking they emailed me and said I had to stay at another hotel due to “inventory” issues. Other hotel was not nearly as nice. Did not refund me anything. Big pressure to buy time share. Expedia people in India were nice but ineffective. I didn’t know it was a timeshare. Bait and switch!!

Absolutely no soundproofing, it sounded like the people above were going to crash through any minute. When I mentioned it to the front desk, they did acknowledge that the walls are paper thin and it is a recurring problem.

Delightful historic property. Nearly non existent service. No restaurant or amenities. Nice to have a full kitchen. Valet is mandatory, due to the homeless population across the street. Staff is friendly and helpful. Be prepared for a hard sell on the ongoing vacation property access from the welcome team.

A lot of homeless around the area. Only parking they offer is valet for $30 a day. If you don’t choose that then you need to go find a parking on the street. They are going to try to give you gifts in order for you to go to a timeshare meeting. Pretty annoying. Was a cool hotel wouldn’t stay again.

Parking a little tricky . Biggest issue was our reservation for two nights through Expedia turned into one and I spent 2 hours on the phone when we checked in trying to get the second night re-booked but hotel said there was no room. Expedia blamed the hotel on the mistake and hotel said Expedia. Nightmare way to start our family vacation.

However, the windows were not part of the update, so noise levels were fairly high even in the fifth floor. One weird touch was ghe old window in the shower, because you could see how much of a mold/mikdew/rot problem that will become with water constantly splashing onto the wooden frame. Also, immediately after check-in we were talked into a 90-minute time-share pitch after we were offered a "comped gift" for our wedding anniversary. They then said they had to put our card in for this gift, but after our presentation we would not have the $40 charged. We were essentially locked in for the presentation before we knew what hit us, and we would lose the money if we skipped. So, now we had to attend what turned out to be a 2-hour sales pitch before we could head to the Zoo and enjoy our anniversary. So, go in knowing that they might try to talk you into a Worldmark sales pitch; be ready to say no upon your arrival (or go along with it for the free perks if you can get through the sales pitch; just plan accordingly). The surrounding area has really cool features close by, but its also crowded if you opt for street parking instead of valet, and a few unhoused people in the area with mental health and substance issues.

I truly loved my stay here, the staff is more than helpful and always there when you need them. They made my trip much better! Only complaint I had was they had construction going on from 8-6ish which wasn’t necessarily ideal especially because I had no clue they were doing renovations, but thankfully I wasn’t in the hotel most of the day so it wasn’t too much of an inconvenience. Just really loud. But it was entirely worth it! I will be staying here in the future :)

We loved our room, with the kitchenette, the big closet, safe and nice bathroom. It was all clean, and the staff was SO FRIENDLY! A complete joy to stay at your hotel and would come back as soon as we can. The building is beautiful, it has been modernized, but still has the charm of another time. We were very happy staying at the Inn.

This is our second stay in this hotel. It's now owned by Wyndham and seems to be a timeshare hotel (be ready for the pitch by the concierge to attend a meeting). Not to worry, the rooms still have the style and spaciousness that they always had. There's some city noise but not as much as downtown. We like the area near Balboa Park and felt safe even at night. Will stay here again.

What a weird place. Got there with my pregnant wife and our 18-month-old to see the zoo. The only place to unload was a “three minute only” spot out front. The whole hotel is serviced by a single elevator shared by guests and staff, so it took a long time to unload and a few trips up the elevator. Nobody offered to help. Checked it, got my keycards, showed my id and credit cards. Then the concierge wanted me to check in again to get a wristband that would unlock the room. I told him I didn’t need it since I already had a keycard, but he insisted it was mandatory, the wristband seemed to have no purpose. I told him I would get it later, since at that point I’d already been checking in for 30 minutes and my wife had a sleeping baby in the car. We finally got to our room, and while I held my sleeping baby the hotel staff called our room four times because they hadn’t registered our credit card properly. Then they called because they still demanded I get the useless wristband. Advice for hotel: tourists don’t want to be walking around with something that tells all potential criminals that they’re out-of-towners. Anyway, we finally got the stupid wristbands that served no purpose. Then after dinner, out 18-month old was running around to burn off some energy before bed. We got a calm from the front desk saying that someone in the cleaning staff had heard the noise in the hallway and we needed to be quiet. This is 7pm. We never turned in the TV or had a radio on, but in case you’re

The rooms are very large. The suite has two large bedrooms, a bathroom (adjoining both bedrooms) a kitchen, a dining room, and a large lounge room. The kitchen was well-equipped. There was no washing machine, but I believe there was a guest laundry. The rooms are fairly quiet at night time. The airport is so close to San Diego that you can always hear the planes from pretty much anywhere in the city, and this is no exception. As long as you're not planning on sleeping in, you'll probably be fine with it. The neighbourhood is fine. Extremely close to Balboa Park; the zoo and museums are all an easy walk away. There aren't many great restaurants in the area, but the Italian district or Gaslamp district are a 5 minute Uber ride away. There's a 24 hour 7-11 right across the road. The area was fairly safe but there were a few drunks around at night. Some reviews have mentioned the fact that this place tries to get you to attend one of their timeshare presentations. Yes, it's true. But, they take 'no' for an answer which is what you want. It's a minor inconvenience. If I were staying in San Diego again as a solo traveller I might choose somewhere a bit more upmarket but for a family stay this place was perfect.

The hotel is in the perfect location - walking distance to Balboa park. The stuff is very kind and professional. We had a king studio (a big room) with the small kitchen which includes everything we needed. We were there during a huge uncommon wave of heat and were forced to run A/C 24 hours. Unfortunately the A/C in our room stopped working on the next day of our arrival. We found it in the morning when we got up and informed the front desk about this issue. They promised to take care of this issue. We spent the day in the city. When we returned to the hotel in the evening, they told us, that they could not fix our A/C, but they are moving us to another available room with working A/C. They helped us with the move and I was really impressed how quickly and effectively they resolved this issue. We are really grateful to the entire stuff. It was a very pleasant and convenient stay (especially considering the weather condition).

I really appreciated that the vallet service was so reasonably priced. We stayed in 3 different hotels while in Cali and this one was our favorite.

This spot was a great deal for a two bedroom suite. Close to Balboa Park, close to freeways. We walked a bit up to Hillcrest and there were many places to grab breakfast. The sale pitch was pretty low key and we chose not to attend. The roof deck seems nice, although we did not partake as it was very hot when we visited. While we didn't use the kitchen, it looked quite functional with plenty of dishes and nice size table. Staff was helpful and friendly.

Valet parking was helpful as there was little parking. Concierge invited us to a Wyndham time-share meeting. We spent one of our two nights booked here due to a horrible airport delay on our way into San Diego. I wish we'd been able to spend both scheduled nights here. The beds were some of the most comfortable of our 2 week trip and the mini apartment feel of the room was SO welcoming. The building is historic and so a bit dated, but it was beautiful. The shower, which can make or break a stay review, was great with good pressure (no spending 30 minutes trying to rinse off the shampoo!.)

The shower, which can make or break a stay review, was great with good pressure (no spending 30 minutes trying to rinse off the shampoo!.)

Private and generally clean. Facilities are dated but that’s part of the charm. Area around the property can be a bit sketchy.

It was a great hotel for SDCC. The staff were friendly, and our room was clean. The price was also cheaper compared to other hotels.

The beds and pillows are very soft- I love it, spouse not so much. I did not know ahead of time is that this is a time share. We are not members and were very caught off guard. When you use hotels.com you don’t except to have the time share pitch. We avoided it, but it would have been better if I knew after 13 hours of traveling that that’s what I would be greeted with. The room we had was advertised as two queens. These are not queen sized beds. They are full/double. My 2 teenagers (6’3”, 170 lbs each) struggled to share a bed. They struggle in a queen at the best of times, full was rough.

We stayed here for the Braves and Padres game. Only minutes away from stadium. Went to the San Diego zoo and it was just around the corner from the hotel. The rooms were very clean, beds were super comfy. We stayed in a 2 bedroom suite and had more than enough space. All employees were so helpful and would definitely stay here again.

Stylish, clean. Spacious. Great roof top terrace The sales pitch for a time share which was not relevant to us anyway!

The front desk staff and valet were very helpful and kind. Plenty of room. Close to Balboa Park and a 20 minute walk to the zoo. The elevator was crazy slow and made awful noise inside our room. 2 towels were dirty (we just used the other ones), the AC could not be set separately for bedroom and living room, and 1 giant closet smelled like pot 2 times during our stay making it impossible to use. The saleswoman didn't understand we wanted to go to our room when we first arrived.

Please be aware that they will try to get you to attend a time share presentation. I failed to read the reviews and had no idea. We arrived late to check in so all we wanted was to get to our room and get to bed but after checking in they sent us to the ‘concierge’ and he tried to get us to agree to a presentation the next morning. I politely declined but he was clearly not happy. It was awkward and we tried avoiding him the rest of our stay. The location is amazing and the property itself was really nice. The decor was welcoming and our room was clean and comfortable. I probably won’t stay again because our the timeshare thing.

This is a beautiful property & the staff goes out of their way to be welcoming & helpful. Great restaurants within a walk (loved Jimmy Carter’s!). The kitchenette was fully equipped, so we saved a ton of cash by cooking breakfasts in the room. We had a 5-star experience at a very affordable rate. We’ll definitely return when we’re in the area.

The room was beautiful with lots of unexpected touches. The super long couch and power window shade was so much fun. The comfort of the bed added to the ambiance making the stay most enjoyable. Though the room exceeded our expectations for comfort there were 2 drawbacks that you could work on. First the television had a muted picture quality. This might not have been an issue a few years ago but we have grown accustomed to sharp television pictures with vivid color. Along this discussion we were confused that the television guide offered pay per view movies but we could not access them with the descriptions provided. My last comment is more significant in that the room has a sharp order resembling a dirty locker room. We purchased some air sprays to try and dissipate the odor but whatever was causing the problem was pretty deep seated and the odor would quickly come back.

Great location, truly lovely room and space. I'm not a fan of valet parking since if you want to get into your car you need to find a person to help you. I also didn't enjoy the high pressure sales pitch.

Lovely property with spacious rooms but don't fall for the "Gift Bag" (it's a trap!) and watch out for the pushy time-share pitch. Just ignore them and they'll go away. We would exit the building separately so as not to be ambushed.

Chose this hotel due to location, we planned to go to the zoo and Sea World. Knew about the time share scam before hand due to reading reviews. Listened to their speech anyways and said we weren’t interested and that was the end of it. Hotel room was definitely different from the pictures. The building is old sure but the smell was stale. TVs were both crooked. Tables were sticky. Stains on the carpet. It was fine for the time we were there but definitely wouldn’t recommend to anyone. Only plus is the location.

This hotel had amazing staff, wonderfully stocked studio apt suite and a great location next to Balboa park and restaurants. We were on the 6th floor and the roof top and gym were above us. Our only complaint was the early morning noise on our ceiling starting at 5:45-6:30 am daily from above. Not sure if it was the gym or from construction up there or just people in the time share offices?? It was pretty hard to get a restful sleep with that early morning noise and the place was really great it was a shame! Probably won’t return for that reason.

We had a clogged sink upon arrival had to call twice to get someone to room...he worked for 45 minutes which was later in evening ( we just wanted to shower and go to bed... but couldnt) he said it was unable to be fixed and would have to come back the next day... they did send someone the next day and was resolved. However it was a bit inconvenient washing hands and brushing teeth in the kitchen... both all day and next morning... but thankful there was another sink to use.

Great stay overall. We loved our suite, and it was walking distance to the zoo, perfect as that’s the reason we booked the hotel. Only minor complaint was it’s not an accessible hotel, and we had a baby with a stroller so had to climb stairs to get into the hotel each day (there is an elevator once you are in the hotel, just a pain to get in with a baby). Also no service for attending to your room during the stay.

The hotel is great, the suite was beautiful. The issue is it’s part of a time share and they’ll entice you into going to a presentation for covering your valet ( there’s no other parking choice) or restaurant gift cards. The people trying to sell you the time share are total a-holes. Rude, pushy, aggressive and child like. If you start there, pay the valet and skip the presentation.

Valley parking was great, the staff was friendly and helpful, informative of the area. The building is very old, but extremely well maintained. Very clean! The Hotel was very nice and clean. We had stayed here a couple of time before the new ownership. The only issue we had with the hotel was the constant pestering from the staff to go to a meeting to purchase property with the Shell Vacation Club. Everytime we went out and came back they would hound us with all these offers. They called our room at 9 AM to try and talk us into going to "free breakfast" to hound us more. Next day same thing. It was an obnoxious experience and I will never stay there again. I would not recommend it if you don't like to be harrassed.

This is one of the nicest hotel rooms I've stayed in. Every detail is beautiful, stylish, cool and thoughtful. The beds were comfortable. The kitchen (although I didn't use it) had everything you could possibly need to cook nice meals. The location was safe, nice, and convenient. Will definitely be back. Also was a great value.

Check-in also took forever and was followed by a timeshare pitch. The building has been converted to a timeshare property (part of a national chain) so they really want you to have free breakfast to hear the pitch. Not a great experience when you just want to go to the room. Easy walk to the park and drive to the zoo so that was a plus.

The main downsides were lack of included parking (you could find street parking or valet for $25/night or so). There's no included breakfast but there is a restaurant so close you barely have to leave the hotel. It's easy walking distance to part of Balboa Park but to get to some of the main attractions like the zoo or museums, it's a longer walk (20-40 minutes - Balboa Park is huge and the roads inside are winding). One other note is that most of the units are time shares so the concierge is helpful about what to do around the area but they're obliged to try to sell you on a marketing breakfast where they'll pitch the timeshare. Our concierge was nice though and not too pushy, if you're not interested you could probably just skip and go to your room.

This vacation was for my wife and her best friend of over 50 years! My wife told me the hotel was beautiful and clean and the location could not be beat. It is right across the street from Balboa Park. The kitchen in the room was a great asset for cooking breakfast. My wife and her friend walked to the zoo and that was the main reason for their trip. She told me the front desk staff were so friendly and helped them get rides with the Lyft service and held their luggage while they were exploring the area. The Inn was one of the best places my wife has ever been to. Yes, she would recommend this hotel to anyone that asked where to stay if they were visiting San Diego! You also can walk across the street to Jimmy Carter's Mexican food restaurant and walk to the Marketplace Deli. Both have fabulous food.

The property is absolutely awesome, and the rooms are awesome. The valets are the very best. The front desk is super professional and helpful. My main issue with staff is the "concierge counter" which is really a worldmark time share sales counter. It was my honeymoon, and they were extremely pushy about getting us signed up for an 1 and 30 minute presentation. When we went to cancel it because we were exhausted and wanted alone time they still pushed, then made is feel like we were doing something inconvenient to THEM. We love that hotel but its pretty offputting to deal with the timeshare sales. The resort its self is awesome and has a beautiful asthetic other than windows that can be tricky to open. Valet is worth it as well.

Booked because of location. It was close to SD Zoo and Seaworld; as my family and I were going to visit the parks. Overall really great location and facility. As soon as you check in, they send you over to concierge so that they can try to book you for a timeshare presentation. They were pretty pushy and even gave us a "courtesy call" in the morning when we didn't request it. They did state that parking on site is $25 a night but we found that we were able to get street parking. If you are willing to do that, it will save you. Most likely won't stay here again because my family and I were there to have a little family vacation but felt push for the timeshare presentation kind of made it a little annoying.

Comfortable room but would stay somewhere else next time. We were bugged multiple times about going to a “presentation” after we declined each time. Called our room twice each day to make a better offer to get us to go to presentation which was frustrating because I’m 7 months pregnant and they always happened to call while I was taking a nap. Would rather stay somewhere I won’t be bothered so much.

This silliness aside, the hotel was great. Location was perfect - a few miles or less from any of the sights in the city; and just across the street from Balboa Park. Room was clean - having the kitchenette was nice. A trip to the grocery store meant we weren’t dining out for every meal of the day - a bit of a money saver. Check out (at 3:30am for us) was smooth and there were no surprises. Parking - you’re either on your own with street parking which seemed doable with a little searching, but we opted for the $25/night valet service (I was nursing a foot injury and was trying to limit my walking.). Neighborhood seemed safe enough.

They let us check in early which was great. Upon check in we were told maid service was upon request. Another front desk person two days later said room cleaning is once per visit. We stayed for 5 days and had our room cleaned the first day only. When we asked for more towels and toilet paper we came back to a giant plastic bag thrown on the floor by the bathroom full of towels. Depending on who was working, we would get different answers. Despite a great location, it’s unlikely we would stay here again.

The property had very nice room accommodations. My kids kept saying it was the best hotel ever. It was 15 minute drive to Coronado. The medicinal tree trail and playground area at balboa were across the street. I would definitely stay there again. The downfall- it’s either street parking near 7/11 or valet. We chose valet but then you are unable to access your vehicle when you forget items easily . This was a bit difficult at times with children forgetting things. The only other thing is we just drove 7 hrs there- they checked us in very well, and said we need to our welcome bag. With our two kids and all our bags after long drive, we had to listen to the speech on every restaurant they had a card for in area, how they can help us, and if we wanted to set up a meeting for a time share, which was a very inconvenient time to have that conversation. The welcome bag and parting bag were very thoughtful they gave us. The kitchen in our room was very well stocked with basics. It was an amazing stay. It was extremely clean. It was one of the best hotels I have stayed by far. It was extremely wonderful with children besides the inconvenient conversation at the start.

They lack of parking, so guests have to pay $25 per night.

Much better choice than the one of the cookie cutter US chains. Large room with high ceilings beautiful unique furniture and decor. Awesome tile work and kitchen appointments, more like Europe than the typical crap here. In five days we were never approached on the time sharing don’t understand the reviews about that. Plenty of street parking if you don’t want to valet. Posh neighborhood with plenty of dinning options and 7-11 across the street. Super location close to park, downtown, freeways. Rooftop lounge with 360 view of Sandi. Staff was wonderful and friendly. We travel a lot and can very critical..stay here you won’t be disappointed!

Long wait on the elevator & cooktops extremely slow to heat-up. Rooms were nice, comfortable bedding, and kitchens well appointed. The staff were all extremely helpful.
