Great spot. Close to downtown and walkable to the padres stadium

The staff was super friendly and allowed us late checkout without a charge. There is also a free water bottle in the room. The room was small, but clean and comfortable. The location was great, although we didn't have a car, so it might have been difficult to park. We loved being in the Gaslamp district, which is lively and walkable.

Check in was seamless and I was offered a complimentary glass of wine! The room was spacious, clean, and quiet. They also offer complimentary bike rentals, which made exploring the city much easier. Parking is kind of a nightmare downtown in general, but it’s easy to find a deck nearby that lets you park overnight. Overall, great experience!

But, while booking i find it quite deceptive as they do not have a pool or gym like it states when booking. I for sure wouldn't have booked if I had known that. But, overall it was a good stay. Walls are very thin as it's an old building.

Definitely no problem with cleanliness, room is not that small, trust me larger than any European standard and well designed. A/C units definitely need to be changed. Sound ok until the compressor starts and with summer time nearing will be hard to take. The staff especially Cynthia is very helpful and the strong point of the hotel. Very responsive to expedia messaging a generally not so useful tool with other hotels. The disappointing part is the lack of communication as it seems. Rooms services every other day (not informed at check-in) even towels are not changed so imagine after a full day out to come to this. More surprising is the fact that I asked for a late check-out which was granted but was surprised to have someone knock on the door and come in way before check out time despite the do not disturb sign being placed at the door! The place has potential but a lot of things are left hanging so, will wait for the refurbishment to happen before coming back!

I tried working directly with the hotel to resolve the issue, but they refused to take any action or offer any accommodation. I also spent considerable time working with Expedia, but the hotel still declined to help. The room itself was also not in great condition. It had an unpleasant smell; the carpet was stained and frayed to the point where exposed carpet tacking poked our feet as we came out of the restroom. The shower and accessories were calcified and not full of product. There were pigeons nesting outside the window, leaving a large amount of feces and making annoying noises early in the morning. The staff were also not very welcoming and often seemed unwilling to be there. During check-in, I asked for a gym pass and was told I had to come back later, even though I was going to the gym right after check-in, which was located 1/2 mile away. Overall, this stay did not match what was advertised or expected, and the customer service only added to the frustration.

The room was very small and basic, and the walls were thin. I could hear street noise and other guests. We liked the bikes, but within 30 min had a flat tire. I feel like tire pressure should’ve been checked before giving them to us. The location is their biggest selling point. Honestly, I don’t think I’d stay here again. The cons outweighed the pros for me.

I had booked this hotel primarily for it being dog friendly and offering dog amenities like food and water bowls and a bed however since there is a new owner they don’t really offer anything. It is a pretty basic hotel with Lil to no amenities however, I will say that the king size bed I slept in, was very clean and comfortable.

My only 2 comments, the bed was very soft for my comfort and the AC was from 2000s maybe, it worked fine, did its purpose of cooling the room, but was very noisy when turned on. Great location near top restaurants. Walking distance from bus and metro as well.

The hotel was in a great location but we had to park down the road the road at a public parking lot. The walls were thin and heard the whole city partying all night. When we first got there, they asked if we wanted a complimentary beverage from there fridge but then they charged us for them as an amenities fee of $26(which included the use of some beach cruiser bikes) that we didn’t even ride). All in all, great location if your going to the ball game but would t recommend for a family with kids.

Clean, comfortable, safe, and a great location. Our room was spacious, but what was really nice was a spacious bathroom. You should know that with the great location comes street noise at night.

Sadly just one night in San Diego, and my first visit too. I'd love to go back and stay here. I arrived quite late on a Saturday evening, so the neighbourhood was super-busy (in a good way) and it was an extra bonus to find that facing out on a side street ended up being surprisingly peaceful. The staff could not have been more welcoming and more helpful. The room was a very good size, and although quite simply furnished, spotless and 100% comfortable. This is an unfair "what didn't you like?" ... Coming from the UK, the price seems quite high BUT it seems that this is actually pretty good value in CA!

Perfect location if you’re attending an event at Petco Park or just want to explore SD downtown. Free bikes are provided to cruise around. Free water in room, coffee machine with plenty of coffee and creamer and you get two alcoholic beverages upon check in. Plus late check out was offered without hesitation. Fabulous service. This will be our go to hotel going forward!

The room was small and dated. There was no parking on site. The AC would make the room very cold but when it went off the room got really warm. I wouldn’t stay at this hotel in the future.

The bed was very comfortable, and everything clean. There was no fridge in the room I had, but they had a fridge downstairs and you recieved a complimentary reusable water bottle with water and a free drink of your choice from the downstairs fridge.

We had no internet connection for two days until they fixed the issue; the bed was too soft, causing us back pain, specially as we had booked the place for several days. This place was terrible, when I arrived at night have to wait in line for check In the person in charge seems new o had no idea about how to do the check in becouse couldnt find the reservation o told me that I didnt have one. When i finally went to my room, was smelly with and old and loud A/C the bathroom was very poor clean and even, the soap smell like vinegar and couldnt be used, probably never replace and expire.

The persons at the front desk made my daughter 16th bday extra special. Thank you for going above and beyond. ❤️

Seriously, the best beds and linens I’ve ever experienced at a hotel—runs laps around many Ritz locations I’ve stayed in. The amenities are few but a great place to stay to get great rest before a conference in San Diego.

The room was spotless and had so many thoughtful amenities. The robes were soft and cozy, two separate blankets so one doesn't have to be shared, there were even little creamers in the refrigerator! The staff was friendly and welcoming as well.

Everything was great about the stay except the TV did not work and the internet was down the first night.

Staff were exceptionally friendly. The hotel was a block away from the GasLamp Quarter, convenient for night life but quiet for sleeping. The bed was very comfortable. There was a keurig coffee maker in the room (bring you own K-cups) and a hair dryer. My requests went unanswered, which was disappointing. The outlets by the nightstands did not work and I asked for a solution so I could charge my phone, watch, etc., next to the bed. They were going to send up an extension cord for a solution, but it was never received. There was no housekeeping during my stay (3 nights). Fortunately, I was a solo traveler, and two towels were plenty for me. It would have been nice to have the trash emptied at least once. There was no light in the closet area which made it difficult to see my suitcase and clothes. The television, which I rarely use, had Pixels missing, maybe? There were 5 annoying "spotlights" on the screen when watching any channel.

Staff was helpful under difficult conditions - see below Checked in on the day the hotel was literally transitioning to new ownership - it was a nightmare. people locked out of their rooms, The already cramped and lacklustre entrance/waiting area was like a crappy hostel with many unhappy people. Although I was told an early check-in was approved, I had to wait over an hour to get a room. had to be escorted to room, as room keys were not available to anyone because of the transition - not ideal. Asked for a quiet room and got a noisy second floor room with windows facing a noisy parking lot and street - heard cars, sirens, people parking and talking through the late morning. Bed was not great. Bathroom was substandard and had deteriorated drywall in shower. I will never stay here again and suggest that you do not.

The hotel had some nice features and the bed was comfortable. I don't think the daily Amenities fee was worth it. Just seemed to be an extra fee without a commensurate benefit. The room was not visually appealing - very motel vibe - and there was no view out of the window except a brick wall. But the stay was comfortable and I appreciated the water station.

This was right in the middle of a lot of food, places and different shops. It was honestly a great hotel for a little weekend getaway.

I was quite upset by the small print “amenities fee” I had to pay upon arrival. This $115 covered a bottle of water in my room, a few cups for the coffee maker, and internet. These are standard hotel expectations, not extra. I still could have forgiven if they would have let me opt out of these “amenities” and not pay the fee. Which they would not.

Location, coffee and cookies Room location on ground floor had window facing alleyway with construction men walking by often and loud pigeons. Remote control batteries were dead and front desk person said they couldn’t help because they are out of batteries. 2 days later when the other front desk person took a remote from and empty room for us to use, the tv has bright spots all over it when on. Very small room. Very comfortable bed. They only clean the rooms every other day and somehow that meant one time over 4 nights.

Amazing stay at the Pineapple! We were given a room upgrade to a suite since it was my husband’s birthday, and we enjoyed it very much. The room was spacious and very clean. The bed was so comfortable and the duvets were so cozy and soft. Employees were all so nice and greeted us each time we came through the lobby. Great location in Gaslamp. I really liked the free metal water bottles and refill station. I will definitely be returning.

Just an overnight stay, cute facility, the rooms are adorable. Where our room was located we could hear a lot of street noise. Outlets by the bed didn't work, but we were only staying one night.

Location is amazing, dinner, bars, pet co park, all within an 3 minute walk. Amazing for the price! Staff is very friendly and even checked us in 2 hours early. Rooms were a bit smaller than what I expected but nothing to complain about. Would recommend and come back anytime.

They let me check in early and check out late. the staff was great. Ill def be trying to book there again for the conference i was at next year.

Great staff and clean rooms

We stayed the night here for the Chris Brown concert at Petco park. The walk over was super quick maybe 5 mins. The check in was easy and we even got welcome cocktails. Staff was super friendly. The room was so cute, all the pineapple decor was so cute. The beds were super comfortable and the duvets were so nice. I would definitely stay here again!

The room was very comfortable and clean. The staff was welcoming and kind. It’s a great location if you’re going to Petco park for an event/game with lots of places to eat walking distance. Parking around the corner was easy and non-expensive. I’m still giving it 5 stars because I’d come back and it’s not fully their fault but I highly recommend requesting a room on the top floor because the thumping of foot steps above me kept waking me up.

Overall was good - room smelled a bit musty, which wasn’t good. But I let them know and they did seem concerned.

Loved so many things about our quick stay!!! My favorite was how dog friendly it is! The service was great and I hope that I can stay at more of their locations in other areas!

This hotel is very conveniently located in the Gaslight District of San Diego and within walking distance of the Convention Center as qell as Petco Park. The hotel is very clean and the customer service was stellar. They put effort into making you comfortable. The rooms are really clean and well maintained. They have excellent attention to detail that adds to their services toward their customers, such as bath robes, shower amenities, free water and beverages, as well as goodies for a pup, since they are pet friendly.

I liked the pineapples! :) The robes, the fun details like do not disturb sign said "go away I am naked" that it is dog friendly and you can purchase the staffed puppy and proceeds go to shelters, the refillable water bottle and option to refill it downstairs. It's a fun hotel. Could be a bit updated but the character makes up for it.

Whenever I stay in San Diego I stay at this hotel. The beds are super comfy and location is amazing. Less than a 5 minute walk you'll be in the heart of Gaslamp.

The best place to stay in SD. Comfortable rooms. Amazing beds. Hard to get yourself up they are so good. Tivoli's right next door and Taco Centro across the street. Close the ballpark and everything. Great staff

Great staff and nice rooms with excellent bedding, but we were placed in a room below a housekeeping room and the noise from above through the ceiling was incessant and woke us early.

We have stayed here before. The staff are great and the location is perfect for us. The only issue was the water coming out of the bathroom sink smelled like sewer. It was really bad to the point I didn't want to brush my teeth with that water. I let the staff know, and they said that just happens sometimes.

I just how cute and quaint it was. Right in the middle of all of the good stuff too. Office staff were very informative, adorable, and nice!!

Some sort of fight broke out on our floor, I believe the police were called. Noisy upstairs above our room. Overall didn't feel this was worth the price.

The worst feature was the “rain shower” style shower head that was mounted on a traditional wall extension versus ceiling mount. The result was a very awkward, trickle of water way too close to the wall. The desk clerk offered to refund my “amenities fee”, hopefully he did…

My son and I stayed here when we came to San Diego for his 13th birthday. We absolutely LOVED this place! The staff was friendly and hospitable. The location was centrally located and close to everything we needed. The room was clean and we were very comfortable. We will be returning here on our next visit to San Diego!

Amazing experience at Staypineapple Hotel Z, from beginning to end! The staff is very helpful, and provided us with all information on how to make the best of our stay. The amenities are excellent, the refillable water station is convenient, and the location is at an ideal place, walking distance from everywhere we needed to be. Even though I didn’t bring any pets, this place is very dog-friendly and it was nice to see guests walking around comfortably within the hotel. Overall, my experience with this hotel has been excellent, and I’m looking forward to the next visit.

Excellent for dogs!

There is no parking. And they don’t care. If you can’t park, it’s not their problem. Public parking nearby costs upwards of $15 per hour. No food or amenities, either. You get a bed, basically. Wish we had stayed somewhere else.

Centraly Located to go in which ever fun San Diego activity you want to get into. Many walking dining options at any part of the day. Will plan to be back.

Nice property close to a bunch of restaurants, the only problem is parking is a little scarce but amazing staff especially front desk. I forgot the girl at the front desk’s name but she went above and beyond to help us with everything we needed. Will definitely stay again when in town .

Hotel Z knocked it out of the park. Great service, great location, very clean, amenities were great including free bike rentals, bottomless coffee, filtered water. We would definitely look to stay at any Staypineapple hotel in the future as it was fun, friendly, and very enjoyable!

No parking was kinda a pain, they suggested a parking garage next door but it was full due to a padre game, also bad timing as the street hotel was on was closed due to construction. However the room was clean, the staff was kind. Would stay again

Great Stay, lobe hotel!

What a great hotel for pups and their owners!! If I travel with my dog again, I would def come back here. Also loved how they had bathrobes and fresh coffee and free water on tap. And the beds and duvets were pretty amazing. The room wasn’t too big but did have everything we needed. And the staff were very helpful.

It’s a bummer the building was not retrofitted to serve as a hotel. The staff, location, and amenities are nice, but the walls and floors are super thin. I could hear my neighbors on both sides and not muffled. Every time the person on the floor above me walked around I could feel it. I had to wear earplugs to sleep, but was still woken up in the middle of the night by the stomping. I’m really surprised I didn’t see this mentioned in other reviews I read before booking.

The stay was excellent. with nice, clean and spacious rooms. Most of all the front desk staff were all awesome. The price of the rooms acceptable. There is no breakfast at the hotel but there are lot of good food joints nearby. The location was good, although it can be a bit noisy at night due to being in the Gaslamp area.

The staff was nice i really wished they offered valet though. When i booked this last min because my spouse was going on deployment and it was close to the airport i didnt realize there was no valet and it just so happen to be a game day too so it was a bit of a pain but other than that we had a great stay. The ac did have quite a bit of noise rattling .

Pet friendly wonderful customer service from the desk attendants complimentary beverage welcome bag for my dog and big dog bed for my dog to sleep on. Comfortable bedding, robes, and check out is not til 12pm. Will be back for sure!!

Minimalistic and economical but had everything to make a good hotel room. Would have appreciated a bigger work desk and a refrigerator, but everything else was awesome! Walls were little thin maybe and I could hear noise from outside a little though.

Staff was super friendly and very helpful! Ambiance was super cool and modern. Definitely plan on staying here again whenever I see the Padres play. Also look forward to staying at their SF location!

The rooms were spacious, very clean. The bed and pillows were perfect. The staff was very friendly and welcoming. The only issue we had was there is no parking. We checked in and unloaded in front of the hotel then went and found parking on the street on a Sunday night (no charge til 10am Monday) just a couple blocks away.

I definitely didn’t feel like I was in a dirty hotel room or did I have a feeling of somewhat disgust that I am sleeping at a hotel compared to other spots I have booked at. Super comfortable bedding

Thin walls and ceilings, mean that you can hear everything in upstairs room as occupant is moving around their own room. I mean everything!! Top this with no microwave and no mini fridge. Bathroom toilet paper is terrible: no more to be said. I expect something better than high-school toilet paper! Bedding was strange: if you're looking for a regular fitted bottom sheet with a top sheet, and a king/queen sized duvet, then don't stay here! Instead, you get a non-fitted sheet tucked on top of the mattress protector, and two single duvets, which they call "European style." Once you've finally got settled in bed, and you turn on the AC, be prepared for a crappy LG inside unit to keep you awake all night! Yep, very loud unit!! Finally, if you luck out and end up with a first-floor room, be prepared to keep the blind closed so that passers-by don't get to see everything!

Too spendy on the weekend - plus paying for parking

We were pleased with the room. I don’t ever sit on a hotel bedspread however I did at this hotel. The bedding looked clean and smelled laundry fresh. It was soft and comfy. Everything felt very clean. The staff was very friendly and made us feel welcome. We stayed one night. The room was small and I’m not a very organized person in a hotel room, so it would have been too small for a longer stay for me. I would definitely go there again!

Only negative was shower drain was slow to drain. Otherwise, will stay again. Pineapple cookies and coffee service in the afternoon was a treat after a long day of sightseeing.

Bike rentals come with the room, super easy to commute everywhere. Stay we're really friendly and helpful.

My wife and I had a wonderful stay at Hotel Z. Aaron and the other staff were very helpful and accommodating. I loved the bikes that you could take for a jaunt around San Diego on the lovely sunny days.

An absolutely spectacular hotel. Everything was clean and bright. The exterior of the building popped with color and was very inviting. The lobby was welcoming and Melissa was a fantastic host. Our room was clean, beautiful and comfortable. The bed was one of the nicest I have ever slept in while on vacation and the bathroom and shower were modern and sleek.

This is a great hotel. Very clean, comfy bed, friendly staff. It is in walking proximity to many restaurants, clubs, etc in downtown San Diego. My only issue with this hotel was the parking. They do recommend a parking lot nearby. It is very close to the hotel but just a bit annoying to not have direct parking. It would not deter me from going back.

Short, 2-night stay! Very pleased, other than no fridge in the room!! That would be my only complaint!!

Room for 2 was small for one person. The bed was comfortable but too large for the room, taking up too much space. The bathroom needed more table space for toilet trades and the sinks need to be deeper to prevent frequent splash back from running water

This is all subjective and will not be the same for everyone but the bed was way to soft and I felt like I was sinking in. I had a terrible nights stay. The pillows did not vary in comfort so I had terrible nights sleep. Overall the hotel was clean and had everything needed. The staff was amazing and id stay here again because the price was outstanding compared to the rest of the area.

Walkable…tons of restaurants. Parking is expensive and a block away. But the water bar is great!!

If you’re relying on a car, be prepared for the extra logistics, but if you’re exploring the city on foot or using rideshare, Stay Pineapple San Diego is a solid choice!

The property has all the amenities one needs for a stay. The refillable PATH water is excellent along with the careful attention to details in room.

There is not any parking you need to use public parking and pay. The area has some homeless so be careful at night. One of the housekeepers open my door without knocking which startled my wife. Room was clean hotel itself was very nice and customer service was very helpful. This is a dog friendly hotel...

This was a great stay! I really enjoyed myself. However, i think they really need to incorporate the amenity fee into the actual cost. If i had known it was actually $30 more than advertised on expedia I might have made a dofferent choice. It is the Spirit airline model- call yourself cheap then charge for water. Still, it was a very nice stay, just not a cheap one.

The customer service was so great here. Very clean and comfortable and I loved that it was located in the middle of Gaslamp. Only down side was we had our car broken in to at the parking garage around the block. It’s not the hotels fault at all but the location could be a little dangerous for that reason.

The staff were very warm and welcoming. They were Also very helpful during my stay. The room had everything I needed for my one night stay. Walking on 4th, 5th and 6th Avenues I found a lot of restaurants and a few stores that interested me. Overall, a great place to stay.

Hotel needs a dedicated parking area. Either than that, it was excellent!
