I will stay there again

The cleanest space I’ve seen in a long while. I wish hospitals were this clean. Comfortable mattress, plenty of towels, not too noisy, even though located on Market Street. Filtered drinking water, hot tea and coffee always provided. Close to public buses, short walking distance to good markets and cafes. Highly recommended to solo travelers.

The hostel is in a central area with tons to do around! The dorms, bathrooms, and common areas were all very clean and the staff is very nice and helpful.

Great place overall, first hostel experience. Street was noisy until midnight, and started up again after 6 AM. They do sell earplugs downstairs, wish I had bought some. Very clean and quiet on the inside

The hostel itself was clean, modern, and well-maintained. The dorm rooms were comfortable, and I appreciated the privacy curtains and secure lockers. The common areas had a welcoming atmosphere, making it easy to meet other travelers from around the world. The staff were friendly, helpful, and always available to answer questions or give local recommendations. I also liked the free unlimited coffee and organized social activities, which added extra value to the stay. Despite being located in a lively area, the hostel was surprisingly quiet at night, making it easy to get good rest. Overall, HI San Diego Downtown Hostel is an excellent choice for budget travelers looking for a safe, clean, and social place to stay in downtown San Diego. I would definitely stay here again.

It’s in the heart of the Gaslamp District, which is noisy on the weekends until past 2:00 am. Not the best spot for light sleepers, but I loved it.

Staff was great

Travelers: Mom and 12yr old child. The lobby looks much nicer in photos than it does in person. It’s not bad, but the pictures make it seem larger and more upscale than it actually is. We stayed in a single room with a private bath. The room had a bit of an odd odor—likely a mix of an older building and cleaning products. The bed was a bunk (twin over full), which was unexpected; based on the photos, I thought it would be just a full-size bed. It was too squeaky With someone on top bunk. I also wish we could’ve used the stairs instead of the elevator to get from the lobby to the third floor (personal preference to take stairs). That said, I’m glad we were on the third floor, since the second floor sits above a cigar bar. Most of the guests seemed to be 40+yrs, mellow and respectful of space. Overall, despite a few quirks, we enjoyed our stay. We slept well, felt completely safe, appreciated the elaborate artwork, and loved having a mini fridge in the room. We were also very grateful for such an affordable option during a busy weekend.

This could be an okay stop if you were getting a cheap price and not planning to spend any time in your room, but do not expect any frills. We got a private room with the bathroom for almost $200/night, and the pictures were definitely deceiving. The staff were very nice, I don't want this to go on them at all. But in general, I wouldn't stay here again if I had other options.

I liked that there was a parking garage that made me feel safe to leave my car there for a long time. I did not like the welcoming. It felt more like I was an inconvenience for the person who helped me check in. HE DIDNT MAKE ME FEEL WELCOMED AT ALL.

I enjoy this property compared to the others due to the convenience. They provide damn near everything for their guest. The rooms are clean & spacious. The female host is always friendly. Just wish the process was a quicker to get checked in.

There is constant noise such as slamming and loud music. The bathrooms are gross. There are perverts that attempt to open the bathroom while you're inside. I was hassled while checking in. The people at check in were rude. The windows stay open in the common area are always open. An old man recorded me in the kitchen area. The staff hate anyone who isn't Mexican. The rooms are gross and the a/c is always on. There is no security. The furniture is dirty and worn down. The areas on the second floor are creepy. There is an opening in the roof, so if it rains water falls through. There are openings in the floor and you can see down to the second floor from the third floor.

Property is right in the heart of Gaslamp and located near all of the lively bars and restaurants. It's an easy 8 minute walk to Petco Park. Place is good for resting and showering and gets the job done. Has a cool game room with a pool table. I would recommend if you're planning on touring Gaslamp and want to be in the heart of the city.

The high San Diego hostile was very nice with lots of really beautiful art. The staff was great! It was very safe and well organized. The kitchen was always clean. There was coffee on demand and cold water. The sitting areas were clean and comfortable and it was nice and quiet.

We had a private room it had a sink which was nice. They had plenty of bathrooms so no waits for showers or anything like that. Free breakfast! Lots of neat areas to hang out in. The location was the main selling feature it would be triple the price to stay in that area any other way

access to facilities, to the amazing (and always smiling) staff, if you don't enjoy your stay here, it's probably a you problem. There's a huge kitchen with all the implements you could need, including a rice cooker and free rice! Coffee and tea are available 24/7, and the large common/dining are is perfect for meeting your fellow travelers. And just to mention it again, everything from the rooms to the hallways to the kitchen and dining room were almost always spotless, no matter what time of day. All in all, I can't recommend HI San Diego Downtown enough.

I was staying in one of the rooms directly adjacent to the street, so noise levels would probably be better in one of the inner-circle rooms. Also, in the morning it was a bit tough to get access to the bathrooms because everyone is trying to take a shower, and there’s limited facilities. I resolved this issue for myself by opting to shower at night when the facilities are much less busy. Overall, a great place to stay. Just consider the noise at night and accessibility to bathrooms/showers.

Smaller than expected for the room. A cockroach was in the shower upon arrival, not allowed to set the air conditioner lower than 72. Staff was very helpful and kind and the building is badged for entry, they also check to make sure all visitor's are carrying their badge to maintain security.

They didn't hesitate to move me to another room the next morning, and provided a slight "upgrade" without my request. Very nice room they moved me into. BTW, the other guests were very chill. Definitely will go back!

Love to stay at HI SD DT Hostel as it's prime location in Gaslamp makes this stay an excellent value. The staff and guests are very friendly and adaptive. The artistic interior is VERY SELFIE and photo-worthy.

The hostel was kind of run down and dirty. There was random construction happening in the middle of the building. You also had to make your own bed which is minor in the scope of things but after a long day of travel it was inconvenient

The beds were very very firm and it didn't get quiet until well past 11pm, even though there was a 11pm spund curfew. Other than that my stay was nice amd the staff was very friendly and helpful. Cameras everywhere so i also felt very safe.

It was an great stay for the limited time that we were spending in the hotel while being at the convention for the weekend. The staff was friendly and the property was an easy walk to the convention center.

Spend The Weeknd here for twitchcon overall it was pretty great floors where a little dirty tho and the bed I had to wipe down but other than that it went well

I enjoyed staying in a private bedroom here. A bathroom/shower was always available when I needed one. I appreciated the friendliness of the staff and the art in the hallways. Super convenient location, especially if you are attending something at the convention center. Great budget choice of accommodations.

First time staying at a hostel. I tried my best to not make noise since I came in late and left early. Other than that it was nice and as expected.

This stay was very reasonably priced. The room was comfortable, and I felt safe in the building. I loved the location for being in walking distance to the convention center and so many nice restaurants and shops. I loved the art and the convenience of the kitchen, too. The only drawback is that it is an exceptionally noisy neighborhood. Since my small ears reject ear plugs, I was subjected to the music and general ruckus of the street below until well after 2 AM, no matter the day of the week.

Everything was nice except the music. There was music going until 4 in the morning. The night staff was really hospitable especially since I checked in late.

This is our 3rd time staying at HI San Diego and we always enjoy it. Excellent location and cost.

Very good accomodation with very comfortable bed. Bed uses memory foam mattresses. There is bagel breakfast with peanut butter and cream cheese.

Didn’t realize this was a shared living space. It was advertised with hotels in Downtown San Diego. The stay was ok bc I had a lot of things on my itinerary but probably wouldn’t stay again.

Great location to be walkable distance from most things. Staff were great and felt very safe with the security of the building. Our private room was great, nice to have a sink outside of the bathroom. Breakfast area was nice and kept very tidy.

Really convenient location! I was in town for a concert near Petco Park and it was less than a 10 minute walk. Used public transportation to get around, and it was super easy. Due to location, it gets noisy at night but it wasn’t an issue for me. Would recommend if you’re staying for a quick trip.

Had the private room. Very ran down room with a strong sewer smell. Urine stains on the toilet. Blow dryer did not work. 0 sound proofing and there was a guy coughing violently the entire night outside and can hear everything.
