However, some guests have complained about the pool's lack of sun exposure and the housekeeping staff's insistence on early check-out. Great downtown hotel - convenient location and comfortable / clean stay. Rooftop is awesome as well, great views and drinks. Jordan at the front desk was especially accommodating and friendly. Would stay again!

•The pool, (which was the sole reason for options to choose to stay at this hotel location), on the other was very poorly kept. It seems like it hasn’t been cleaned in weeks. Aside from it looking like still water with what seemed to be mold on the floor and corners for the swimming pool there was all kinds of debris. Very unfortunate because my we chose to stay here because of the nice pool pictures we saw when browsing our hotel options. Very disappointing other guests seemed upset that they couldn’t get in themselves from how poorly kept the pool was. • we then tried to go the the rooftop bar lounge restaurant to which we were immediately stoped at the elevator door by a woman claiming that this was a private area for exclusive guests apparently they were having some sort of party up there. Again no where was that clarified to us that on our set days of staying that would be the case and that the pool was so poorly Maintained and not clean at all. (Which I called and asked in advance and was told it was.) we felt lied to and disappointed overall. We ended up leaving for takeout to a local restaurant near by and calling it a night soon after.

The staff especially the valet staff were great. I asked them to have my car charged overnight and they did.

The location is excellent considering all of the different activities that we were into. Down to Spanish Landing, over to Humphreys, back to the hotel. For the cost 💲 spent, my wife (the boss 😊) loved the stay. Looking forward to my next stay!

They also didn't clean our room at all... Was just extremely disappointed. I do not recommend to stay. Front staff was nice! However I don't feel the property is worth it.

Poor maintenance at my room, the personnel just changed towels, took the trash and poorly made the beds. I called to informed that my keriugh coffee machine was not working and the gentleman told me that a maintenance lady was on her way to deliver one, I waited a couple of hours and nothing, also I told him that I needed to get the coffee basket restocked and he said of course and as I left it was on the same condition. Floor and surfaces were dirty and never cleaned. But yet at the end they informed me that I needed to pay a resort fee that was not charged at the beginning, making me feel like it was my fault that no one informed or collected from me. Also American Airlines delayed my flight a whole day.
- 5/5
Loved it super clean , best hotel ever
- 1/5
The staff at the front desk upon arrival-was very unfriendly! Did not seem like they were happy or welcoming that I chose the Hilton. The first floor bar and dining room was not open during my stay, possibly only for breakfast. The rooftop bar was very nice, but only limited food. The kitchen was in no way ready to eat anything, no dishes silverware glasses or even a paper towel. I don’t know how they could call my room as a mini suite! Had a wonderful view, interior furniture was in need of definite upgrades, looks like bad rental furniture. I would say definitely overpriced for what you receive. I would definitely not recommend this particular property. I wish I would’ve chosen the downtown Marriott location. But I thought I would give the Hilton a shot. Unfortunately it was a mistake at this property. And this was a Curio collection for Hilton, definitely disappointing!

Now, onto the not-so-glamorous parts. Parking is… basically nonexistent unless you’re willing to pay for valet every single day. That’s the only option they offer, it comes with a daily fee. When we asked about nearby parking garages, we were met with zero helpful info, which felt a little surprising. And then there’s the grand finale: the fees. What you see when booking is definitely not what you end up paying. There are multiple charges that aren’t clearly outlined ahead of time or even explained at check-in—daily deposits due upfront, plus a mix of amenity fees, destination fees, and extra taxes that just quietly get deducted. It all feels a bit sneaky and far from transparent. Overall, great location—but between the parking situation and the surprise charges, just be ready to read the fine print… and then maybe read it again.
- 3/5
Pool was dirty with hair and bugs, it was also not deep at all. The hotel was ok, prices were high to eat inside.
- 4/5
Although checkin is guaranteed by 4P, our room was not ready when we arrived after 5P. Front desk staff couldn't really explain why. We had reservations at 6P and had to use their gym locker room to change and freshen up. They offered a drink at the rooftop bar but since we already had plans we couldn't enjoy it. Would stay again because the hotel is centrally located and easy to get around town. Room/bed was fine.

Had a great stay at Carte Hotel San Diego Downtown, Curio Collection by Hilton. The rooms were modern, clean, and very comfortable. The staff was friendly and attentive, and the location is perfect for exploring downtown. The rooftop pool and views were definitely a highlight. Would absolutely stay here again!

We had a such a good experience with all the staff we interacted with. They have a great breakfast, and the breakfast staff remembered our drink orders after the first day. Bartenders were friendly and the drink menu was fun. Front desk staff always welcomed us back. We loved the location, it was quiet but close enough to walk to Little Italy.

The gym was amazing—very well equipped and one of the highlights of the hotel. I also loved that everything was within walking distance, making it easy to explore downtown. The only negatives were that the jacuzzi and the main pool were a bit dirty during my visit. Aside from that, everything else was great and I would definitely consider staying there again.

Started with Eva at check-in. Super friendly and informative. The room was really nice - beautiful finishes on the walls and in the bathroom. The make-up mirror is an especially nice touch. Although it was late and the area was closed, security guy allowed us into the pool area for a quick look. Valets were helpful with parking recommendations. The rooftop lounge was very cool. All in all, a lovely stay.
- 5/5
Great ambiance!
- 2/5
Never ate there I noticed a few things that didn't quite meet expectations for the price I paid. The parking situation, the elevator's smell, and the jacuzzi not working were a bit disappointing. Additionally, when the rooftop was open, we were asked to leave because of a private event. The microwave was quite small for reheating food, and I missed having free breakfast. The shower also leaked, leaving water on the floor afterwards. The staff was okay, but I think this place might be better suited for other types of stays rather than for families. Overall, I hope these concerns can be addressed for future guests. Valet parking is 70 bucks.

Staff was very courteous. They checked on me to make sure my stay was goinf well throughout my stay. The rooms were nice and clean. The rooftop restaurant and bar was very fun to watch the NFL Playoffs.

- 3/5
Mattress was only on the bedframe -so was about a foot off the floor. Shower pressure poor. Shower leaked . Maintenance was notified but it was not fixed for the 3 days I was there . Leaked constantly
- 3/5
Did not have breakfast at the hotel.
- 5/5
Clean and beautiful!
- 5/5
Really good
- 5/5
Down: on our first night, the lights went out for like 1 minutes twice, the staff came to look and said nothing is wrong. Although it didn't happen again, I was a little concerned each day, since one of the times it went out, I was in the shower. And another down side (not so much enough) is just the TV options are pretty limited, I thought it would be a smart TV, but it was just channels, and most of the channerls were sports.
- 3/5
Air conditioning was not working in our room. Also the beds were extremely low. Deemed outdated. The higher floor rooms are much more updated.
- 5/5
Great location! Clean room- amenities, staff was helpful and welcoming
- 4/5
Good - The reception desk were helpful and cheerful, valet service was great and the canvas cafe service was good as well.
- 2/5
Our remote was wet and leaking, the tissue box was soaking wet. There was a weird blue thing on the floor. So many odd things and when I called front desk, nobody answered. I went down and there was a front desk girl talking to a valet.
- 5/5
Amazing staff!
- 4/5
Room had a few damages which made it not feel 4 start
- 3/5
Room lighting is rough. Shower
- 2/5
Lights in the room only worked half of the time, several points during our stay our bathroom sink would fill up with filthy water and then drain again. The front desk staff were pretty rude, valet was OK. Was overpriced for the overall quality of the hotel.
- 3/5
Biggest issue for us was that it’s not really kid friendly. Restaurants don’t really have a kids menu so everything is audit size and priced, but the food is good. Service is meh in the restaurant and Apple juice was like $9. The manager gave me a hard time about plugging in a Nintendo to the tv, making it sound like plugging in HDMI can hurt the tv. On the good side: location was great, super walkable to little Italy and harbor. Staff was mostly helpful and nice. TLDR; don’t bring the kids and don’t pay for the upgraded room and it will be a great stay
- 5/5
Friendly staff and excellent everything
- 5/5
Everything was great
- 3/5
Room was decently clean, but coffee machine was dirty, coffee pods were old and worn. Bedding had some spots on it, but all else was generally clean and pleasant.
- 5/5
The room was oerfectand the staff was top notch!

My girlfriend and I stayed in the Carte Hotel for 1 night to celebrate her birthday at the Seneca Restaurant. We had the amazing pleasure to be helped by Desiree at the front desk who made our stay nothing short of amazing and made us both feel special by surprising us with Celebratory Room Service and greeted us with a huge smile and continued to ask how the birthday celebration was, provided suggestions for parking, and wished a big loud Happy Birthday. We found great comfort in our stay with the very clean environment and felt safe and taken care of. We loved the staff especially Desiree at the front desk, cleanliness, and pool/gym options and will definitely be back to the Carte Hotel soon!
- 5/5
Staff is very friendly and approachable. They answered every question we had. Definitely coming back if we visit San Diego again
- 5/5
I recommend staying at Carte, it is a clean and modern hotel close to Little Italy and harbor area. Many dining options close and it is quiet. I have stayed at several hotels in downtown SD and this is my favorite!
- 5/5
Very nice!
- 2/5
The people aren’t too friendly, at the rooftop bar the manager yelled at us from having a boba when we already ordered drinks. The next day at check out (11am) house keeper knocked and woke me up at 8am saying my room was supposed to be vacant! Someone charged our room for drinks and it was a nightmare to fix
- 5/5
Very clean! Smells amazing when you walk in
- 5/5
Close to Little Italy and a trolley station. Streets not always clean, plenty of homeless people.
- 5/5
From the time I arrived I was grateful the receptionist allowed me to check in early. I was super early however, Layla was understanding and accommodating. My room was very spacious and clean. Room temperature was pleasant, hot water was nice, the view was immaculate. The rooftop view was everything. Jeff was my bartender and he was such a sweet, respectful young man. I will definitely stay at Carte again when back in San Diego.
- 2/5
Staff was rude and not welcoming. Room was below average
- 5/5
The gym you get access to for this hotel is the best gym in SD. The staff at Carte was great as well.
- 5/5
Great hotel. Clean, great breakfast. Conveniently located. We had a wonderful stay
- 3/5
The Property charges an additional $30 dollars a day and parking is $75 dollars per day as well. The Night staff was amazing, But I can’t say that abt day staff including management
- 5/5
When we booked, we stayed during the rock and roll marathon and the finish line was very close to the hotel. The restaurant downstairs was super busy the morning of the marathon but overall they did a good job
- 3/5
The bath towels were not soft and very scratchy.
- 5/5
Great service! Comfortable rooms! Only downfall is if you want a sunny pool, this one is on the 4th floor and is limited to sun. The rooftop is a lovely space!
- 5/5
Great property. Perfect locatIon. I wish the pool was better sunlit; it’s in a wind tunnel between two high rises.
- 5/5
This property was awesome, the staff was top notch. The food was incredible. Needs to be more transparent about parking fees.
- 5/5
Shower was leaking
- 5/5
Nice property!

- 4/5
Great hotel, location my only negative is there is no parking and i ended up paying $140 extra on safe parking.. i wasnt aware at all that there was no hotel parking. Outside of that 10 out of 10
- 4/5
New facility and very nice just need to have their exterior windows cleaned. Look forward to new bar on main floor.
- 5/5
The rooftop bar is excellent and a nice way to spend the night

It looked different in person than in the pictures, so I wouldn’t rate it 4 stars.

- 5/5
Our favorite hotel to stay while in San Diego
- 5/5
This was my first time at this hotel, and won’t be my last! The property and rooms were cleans, the check in and check out process was easy, and the staff (special shoutout to Desiree) were awesome. Cant wait to come back!
- 3/5
Arrived early before the 4pm check in. They took down my number and said they’d call when the room was ready. My fiancé and I waited in the lobby for the last hour until 4pm and watched 3 people get their room keys before us and I never got a call or text that our room was ready. After I saw others get their room keys, I asked the front desk about the room and she said it just became available and then gave us the key.
- 3/5
On our first morning there, loud music from the gym woke us at 7am. Management was unhelpful.
- 3/5
There were lots of other cool unique properties I would have stayed at if I had known. Bathtub very old- too old to clean. I was in 1409 and could here the noise in the background. At the least I would have expected a partial refund, but none was offered. Cool concept and expect the reno’s will be great in the future. I was alone on business without my family so it was only my disappointment.
- 5/5
Great venue. Newer hotel. Gym was amazing.
- 5/5
Nice simple property
- 4/5
Hotel needs to work out a few kinks with service Roof top bar lacked full menu options; really slow service. housekeeping forgot coffee cups and was unavailable when I tried to reach them. No answer.

I had a fantastic stay at Carte Hotel San Diego. The property was exceptionally clean and modern, with a sleek design and well-maintained amenities. The staff was courteous, professional, and always ready to assist. The rooftop pool and bar offer stunning views of the city, and the location is perfect—just a short walk to Little Italy, dining spots, and waterfront areas. The atmosphere was both relaxing and upscale. Highly recommended for both business and leisure travelers.
- 5/5
Great stay.
- 5/5
Clean and the staff is amazingly friendly!!!!
- 5/5
Beautiful hotel and helpful staff. The gym is amazing.
- 3/5
Room wasn’t ready at guaranteed time and room wasn’t clean properly either. Check in is 4PM but I didn’t get my room until 5:15 and they didn’t even inform me about my room being ready. From that, I had to cancel my reservation for my anniversary. In addition to that, they double charged me, even though I had already prepaid for my room months in advance. The lack of readiness of this hotel was extremely disappointing. My family has been a part of Hilton ever since I was young and to see that this Hilton wasn’t up to par was very upsetting. Amenities like the gym and pool were great and staff was just okay. The reason I booked this location because it was at walking distance to everything and Hilton is a hotel that I grew up with but I’m not sure I would come back to this location.
- 2/5
Oh you booked on Expedia, lets treat you like you did not pay for the room and give you the worst room possible.
- 4/5
Excessive hold placed on credit card without any notice
- 5/5
Early check-in was quick and easy. Hotel was clean, area was quiet at night and safe to walk. Variety of different restaurants in little Italy. Hotel is quiet at night as well. It was an amazing stay.
- 5/5
This hotel was amazing. The room we were in had AMAZING views. It was comfortable. Valet was great. They took great care of my EV and made sure it stayed charged up. Have nothing negative to say.
- 2/5
Hotel is still very clean and well kept with comfortable beds. My issue this particular time was with the staff. The first evening at the rooftop bar we felt kind of over looked and discriminated against. I figured maybe i was grumpy from my long drive and wasn't seeing the situation clearly so we just paid are bill and left. The next afternoon we went back to have a quick bite before going of to our other activities and it pretty much confirmed the ill feeling of discomfort the night before. After bringing it to the attention of the staff they were apologetic and offer to comp our meals. I was agitated and know longer wanted to eat there as i didn't feel comfortable bring treated with disregard. I explained to the manager that we were late for an event not interested in any meals or drinks. When i returned later that evening there was an open bottle of wine a dessert platter and apology letter. While i appreciate the effort, my door was closed with a do not disturb marker outside. My anxiety kicked in realizing that my privacy and been violated. This made me and my lady very uncomfortable. After speaking with the night manager who was already aware of the event they moved us to another room.
- 5/5
For management I was a bit disappointed in the lack of space to place and keep open one normal sized bag for each of us. I used the bench and she used the chair. A luggage rack would have worked and there was room for one. I would have asked for one if I was staying longer. The hanging area is very small and it made it a challenge to access the safe.
- 5/5
Great place
- 5/5
Had an awesome experience, check in was smooth, the room was clean and the beds were comfy. We had a great night sleep and the water temperature was perfect. My family and I will be returning soon!
- 2/5
I think there was bed bugs and the outside smelled terrible. Great staff though
- 5/5
Great location and friendly, accommodating staff. Room was clean and the bed was comfortable. The water station was out of order on the 7th floor which was inconvenient but the staff provided extra water.
- 5/5
Staffs at the reception and Valet parking were very friendly
- 5/5
My stay was excellent. No complaints.
- 5/5
High quality rooms. Great service. Nice pool and hot tub. Easy walk to restaurants in Little Italy.
- 3/5
There was no parking. Valet was too expensive. Not enough people working at the facility. Staff was not knowledgeable about transportation.
- 4/5
At $500 per night, this hotel was overpriced for what was delivered. It was clean, quiet and in a good location, but $65/night for valet parking and nearly $100 for breakfast for two in the lobby restaurant was ridiculous. We ate breakfast in the lobby restaurant the first morning strictly out of convenience, but there are many other cheaper and better options close by. Given so many other options in the area, I probably would not stay here again.
- 1/5
Will not book again. Customer service was absolutely terrible plus the Roof top was not open AT ALL my entire stay.
- 3/5
The hot tub and rooftop lounge were advertised but unavailable which was disappointing since that is why we chose this place. When inquiring about this we were offered some free drinks which was nice.
- 5/5
I was there on a business trip for 4 days. I have to say that the location of the hotel is absolutely amazing. It’s walkable to a lot of restaurants, cafes, pubs, and activities. The staff at the restaurants and bars are very friendly and welcoming. The room are a bit dirty. Housekeeping doesn’t sweep or vacuum the floor when you make up the room. Overall, I enjoyed my stay.
- 5/5
Gym is fantastic!
- 3/5
The property was very nice and impressive. The suite we stayed in was not as expected. The room was nice, a bit sparse in amenities, but definitely spacious. One of the pillow was dirty and they had it changed. The automatic blinds were not working and the TV was not working as well. We were told the TV was an issue with the provider service and was confirmed to be working by morning. In all, for the money, I do not feel it was worth the cost, but it was a nice place.
- 5/5
No private parking
- 5/5
Great hotel, bar and front desk staff and housekeeping were all amazing, and AC heat system was top notch thx
- 4/5
The building and staff are great
- 3/5
Would not recommend it.
- 5/5
It was a wonderful stay =]
- 5/5
Great place!
- 4/5
Nice place but some of the areas around is not good
- 5/5
Rooftop
- 3/5
They should hire a more welcoming front desk employee instead of someone who seems uninterested in being there. The staff member I encountered was very disrespectful.
- 5/5
Very nice place
- 5/5
Location is ideal. A lot of places at walking distance. Would definitely recommend it
- 5/5
The facilities aren't clean and well managed and the staff was very friendly.
- 5/5
Nice place.
- 4/5
The shower was fine thought, no sulfur smell
- 5/5
Cynthia at check was delightful and professional. Eric at the bar was friendly and helpful. Maintenance crew was friendly whilst busy.
- 2/5
Looks nice is nice but just not what I expected paying as much as I did
- 5/5
Great location and cleaning. Amazing staff
- 1/5
They gave me a room that somebody was staying there so I walked into a room with naked people my room had a leaking shower pan
- 3/5
From the reviews and photos online I expected the hotel to be excellent. While the room itself was clean and comfortable, it was very annoying to listen to metal chairs dragging across the tile floor above us from 6 AM to late in the evening every night. Our room was on the 15th floor and the rooftop bar and event space was right above us. I would not recommend that anyone accept a room assignment on the 15th floor. Also I was very disappointed that although the suite featured a kitchen it did not have a microwave or any dishes or silverware. Lastly, the food in the restaurant and bar was mediocre at best.
- 3/5
WiFi was spotty at best. Not good for business travel at all
- 3/5
Hot tub was never hot - barely warm, huge disappointment. The sink in the room didn't drain well. Shower head was the most confusing setup. Temp was capped at 76F. Cleaning was happenning when you come back to the hotel to relax, too late, so in 3 days it was never cleaned. The room we had was right above the fitness club, so in the morning you feel like you are in the fitness class with loud music and instructor yelling - good luck sleeping in. Will most likely not stay there again.
- 4/5
I don’t like to additional fees charge after I /Check in/book, I”d like one price that covers the stay once I pay, I understand the security deposit but all the other fees seemed a little excessive. Great place, I will stay again and plan a little better with budget/transportation. Pool was down for multiple days. Conveniently located for sure!!!!! Highly Recommended!!!!!!!!
- 5/5
Property was very clean and staff was super friendly, rooftop bar was so relaxing and amenities are endless, will definitely be coming back
- 5/5
my first time in San Diego, my husband served in Navy 50 years ago!! wow! He loved coming back and loved all the new things to see and some that had actually never changed. See ya in the Summer!!😎😎😎
- 5/5
Amazing! Will return.
- 5/5
The corner room has great views. Very spacious 👍
- 1/5
They never came and do our room clean the bathroom or made the bed trash was never picked up the shower water is not well made water when all over the hallway. Overall the stay was terrible.
- 1/5
I was double charged when I had already prepaid.. I paid in full $186 and then had an unauthorized charge for $283… again from the hotel when I had already paid in full.
- 4/5
Safe and quiet location, big gym, good breakfast selections, nice staff
- 5/5
It’s in the middle of everything!! The gym is smacking the stay was amazing!! I would definitely stay here again!
- 5/5
The location is great, within walking distance of many restaurants and sightseeing. The rooms were very spacious and clean. The amenities were fantastic. We took advantage of the pool, hot tub, gym, yoga classes, and happy hour on the roof. The valet for parking is convenient when you need it, but there are many cheaper options nearby, including meters.
- 1/5
And staff was horrible
- 5/5
A beautiful place to stay. Everyone was polite and a pleasure to work with. It is valet only for onsite parking. With all the construction near by, pulling up to valet can be dicey.
- 3/5
I would have given 5stars except we had some personal items missing from our room. We had brought it the front desk’s attention and were told manager will contact us the next day. Unfortunately they had never followed up with us.
- 2/5
First of all front desk agent neve informed me about pet charges. Air conditioner not working properly
- 4/5
Overall the stay was good in Carte Hotel. There were some last minute deductions (fees) added when we did check out. Would have been better if we were intimated prior to booking.

We checked and were given a handicapped accessible room. The bed was awful, as it was just a terrible mattress on a metal frame. You could actually see the metal frame. This is not what the pictures indicate. We contacted the front desk and they said all beds were like the one we got. This was a lie. Afterwards we had a terrible night sleep and all of our bodies were aching the rest of the trip. I went down to the front desk first thing in the morning and they told me it was an accessible room hence the bed type. (I feel bad that Hilton would do that to someone with special needs) Hilton also told me it was their policy to provide these types of rooms to anyone who books through hotel.com or third party. I have never heard this policy before. After several complaints they switched us to an another room . . And the bed was much better, unfortunately the damage was done. We had a terrible stay at this hotel due to body aches the rest of the weekend. My back still hurts two days later.

Like the convenience to little Italy, staff is nice. But the shower spilled water on the floor when we took a shower .

The hotel staff did not honor extra money paid for breakfast at Expedia. Expedia was not explicit about the charge

Hotel and location are nice but lack of parking is a problem. The hotel offered $65 per day valet is the only option.
