Reviews
Guests generally appreciate the hotel's central location, comfortable rooms, and friendly staff. However, concerns about the surrounding area, particularly the presence of homeless people and high parking fees, are frequently mentioned.

The check in process was super straight forward informative and really easy. All the staff I interacted with were very nice. I had a balcony suite and it was a very spacious and clean room. Everything was well kept and very modern. Only 1 thing I had an issue with, which in all fairness has absolutely nothing to do with the hotel. In the immediate surrounding area outside the front doors there are a lot of homeless back in forth and no joke one was literally swinging an axe at a light pole. I'm dead serious. Off property so no bad thing about the hotel more just to let anyone know that the surrounding area, while not a bad looking area at all, definitely has some questionable characters roaming around. Overall I would come back as the hotel was very nice.
- 1/5
Never ended up staying since they told me upon arrival they couldn’t guarantee check in at 4 (when check in is supposed to be and what you pay for). The reasoning was that they were fully booked the night before so rooms were still being cleaned. Never have I ever had a hotel tell me I couldn’t check in because they were fully booked the night before. They also didn’t know when the room would be ready, offered no apology for the inconvenience, and the manager canceled my reservation because I was upset about all of this. Absolutely absurd and not how a hospitality business should be ran.
- 4/5
Clean room, great location. I would recommend this hotel
- 5/5
Very nice, safe, and accommodating
- 5/5
Friendly staff, very clean and modern room. The rain shower was awesome. Parking r8ght next door, the coffee bar is very welcoming in the morning. Will definitely stay here again. Thank you
- 4/5
The hotel is conveniently located, however, to the Gaslamp District.
- 5/5
Very helpful staff. Located at the top of broadway so near walking distance for a lot of places.
- 5/5
The staff at the hotel were extremely helpful. Every time I have a request, they were swift to satisfy them! The hotel property is clean and I felt safe. One thing I do want to point out is that it can be loud during the weekend when people are clubbing outside. It didn’t bother me too much as I tend to sleep with ear plugs on, but I read that they offer those amenities as well to those that needed.
- 5/5
Great hotel! Nice staff and clean rooms.
- 5/5
Nice place
- 4/5
Very nice
- 5/5
Best hotel in San Diego! Everything was great.
- 5/5
The room was wonderfully comfortable. We loved hanging out by the pool and enjoying snacks and drinks. The property is located right in downtown and near public transportation. There were some sounds from transportation nearby that we could hear from the top floor starting at 4 AM, so be aware of that if you're a light sleeper or bring ear plugs, but the bed is super comfortable.
- 3/5
The staff were really helpful, but unfortunately that was the only positive part of the stay. The AC in the room did not work properly, and the bathroom constantly smelled like sewage water whenever we showered. When I first checked in, there were also moments where I genuinely couldn’t tell if the room had been cleaned properly. Overall, the condition of the room was very disappointing.
- 5/5
Overall super - aber, wenn man "das Haar in der Suppe sucht": Frühstück, extrem überteuert, langsame Bedienung, beschränke Auswahl, schade!
- 5/5
Great location right by public transportation.
- 4/5
I enjoyed my stay at the Alma San Diego overall. My room was clean and comfortable, and the staff was pretty helpful throughout my visit. The only downsides were that the shower water had a strange smell, and my room was not cleaned during my 3-night stay. I asked housekeeping to come back after 10:30, but they never returned. Thankfully, I had everything I needed, so it wasn’t a major issue. Overall, still a good stay with a few service hiccups.
- 5/5
Amazing food, amazing service, great pool, beautiful room, great location. The only negative was the area to the right is slightly sketchy, but there are Security and felt more annoyed rather than threatened.
- 5/5
Had a great time and stay while I was there ! Would definitely come back and stay again
- 5/5
Our stay was great at Alma. Our room was well kept and clean. The pool area was very nice and the margarita pizza was delicious! The doors were opened every time we left/returned to the property and we were greeted by the front desk staff each time as well. We would definitely stay again!
- 5/5
Rooms were clean, no smells, no stains, and everything was kept looking great. I would say the rooms are pretty minimalistic if you're into that kind of thing, but it was still a nice room to be in. Thanks for the assistance!
- 3.5/5
The staff were so friendly! Hotel was very cute, and appreciated the coffee and breakfast. Really wish the bathroom had a proper door.
- 5/5
Staff really nice and clean room
- 5/5
Great location near Petco and a trolley stop to get anywhere else. Pool was lovely. A bit chilly so we didn't swim, but sat out reading poolside for an afternoon. Rooms clean. Comfy beds. Sheets stayed put! Closed windows kept the noise of the neighborhood out. We slept very well. Staff was amazing and remembered to ask about the show next morning. I will stay there again.
- 2/5
The room I was assigned to had a bed bug, i woke in the middle of the night and it was right on my cover, i immediately booked a flight for the next day, cutting my trip short and notifying the front desk and they assigned to me a new room. I emailed the manager about the matter and the inconvenience it caused me along with photo advance about the bedbug. Still waiting to hear back about a resolution. Staff was nice but never again, I couldn’t even sleep after discovering this
- 5/5
Best experience so far amazing place to spend a vacation. Their Shakshukah is amazing
- 5/5
Everything about the hotel was amazing. It was very clean and the staff was very responsive and nice
- 5/5
It was easily accessible and clean!
- 5/5
Love love love!! Definitely will be back to stay here.
- 5/5
Beautiful stay! The hotel was amazing, professional warm staff. Great food, drinks and i was upgraded! Thank you so much Annica, she's an amazing hostess!
- 5/5
Everything was top class. Must give a particular shout out to the Receptionist who checked us in and out - she was one of the friendliest and most helpful Hotel Staff that I have ever met.
- 3/5
Staff were very friendly and responsive.
- 3.5/5
Location was good, good value for money Some of the room looks like it needs renovating
- 5/5
Buena ubicación, lo único malo es que demasiados vagabundos a las afueras del hotel, pero siento que es un tema de la ciudad.
- 5/5
Nice room. Very clean. And staff is friendly
- 4/5
Great location, friendly staff however the rooms themselves did not have a very functional design unfortunately. The bathroom in my suite, especially.
- 4/5
This is the second time staying at the alma san diego. The first time was when it was still under “kimpton.” The staff is always welcoming & the hotel is always clean. I also really liked that a room key is needed to enter the hotel as there is some homeless wandering at times. One thing I was unhappy about was that the bar by the pool is seasonal. First time we came it was open & it was so nice, but that’s minor. Also, when I booked our room, I reached out to them to confirm it was the correct room with the round separate tub & they confirmed that it was. Once we arrived, we were given a room I didn’t request so that was disappointing given that I asked a month or two ahead. The room i wanted was not available & they were not able to accommodate.
- 5/5
Overall great stay, loved the location most as it was fairly close to everything we wanted to do. Someone came to clean our room everyday. Very convenient there was a bar & diner there we didn’t eat there though so idk how the food is. Other amenities were ok. The gym was sad if that matters to you. One thing I was not a fan of was that there was no full body mirror in our room.
- 5/5
We loved staying here!! Everything was very clean in the room and the hotel in general, and they have amazing service. They only have valet parking, so we parked across the street, but there were other structures nearby.
- 5/5
Everything was great have a great day
- 5/5
AMAZING!! Clean hotel and room, beautiful design, very comfy bed, great vibe from staff and bar/cafe. HIGHLY recommend!
- 5/5
Amazing staff and the property and hotel amenities were phenomenal.
- 1/5
We got there at 4:10 (check in is at 4) ready to check in, get settled and then get ready for our dinner plans and show that we had been planning for months. Upon arrival we were told "Housekeeping is just finishing up. But you can enjoy our cafe, or bar" No reason, just a generic statement. I felt like I was in the twilight zone. I said "but check out is at 11, they've been cleaning for 5 hours, how dirty was the room?" They said it was due to a late checkout. Late checkout??? How is that our issue.? I was deeply upset as this was a plan that I had made months in advance, part of it being a surprise to my husband as I had fancy reservations and tickets to the San Diego Civic Theatre. I was supposed to have ample time to get dressed up, makeup, hair etc. An HOUR AND a HALF Later after just sitting we got our keys. I was then told by a supervisor that we could talk about compensation after we received our keys, but when I went back down there it was like he completely changed his tune. I told him we lost our reservations and at that point I was too tired to even dress up and worry about all of that. Could they at least compensate a full dinner at their restaurant? $20 Twenty dollars was all they could offer, as they just stared at me saying "we understand, so sorry, yes I understand this was frustrating" At the end of it I was actually just sad. We hadn't planned a wknd away for a long time, and it had meant alot to me. Just to be ruined.
- 3/5
The gym is nice and the staff is friendly. Location is central to downtown San Diego. Beds were very comfortable. There is a very high concentration of homeless right on the block such that I would not be comfortable with my partner walking around, even in day time. The rooms were a little dated. The hotel charges $35/night destination fee but you can then redeem $20 at their downstairs lobby, so it just feels like a way to force you to shop with them.
- 5/5
Everything was great
- 5/5
Great hotel overall but lots of interesting characters on the street
- 0.5/5
Upon even arrival it was a mess. I was charged 3 times for one room. The lady said the system crashed each time I paid. I asked if I was being charged she said no. Upon checking later I indeed was. Homeless everywhere. The night was awful loud noisy and a homeless man screaming outside for nearly two hours. Couldn’t sleep and ruined an anniversary that was thoughtfully planned out. Avoid at all cost. My room wasn’t cheap price wise this placed felt like I paid for a motel 6
- 5/5
no
- 4/5
Great People Great Location
- 5/5
Very kind and friendly; the room was very clean, and my little dog felt right at home.
- 3/5
For a supposed “luxury” hotel, it was mid. Booking through Expedia I didn’t expect the best room, but it was extremely small and a weird L shape. The bed/pillows were ok, but the towels were thin and scratchy like you’d expect in a Motel 6. Room service was a joke and only available during a few hours/day and of course the prices were very high, and on top of that they added a delivery fee! And of course there was a resort fee even though it’s not even close to being a resort of any kind. The location has a LOT of homeless around 24x7. Would not recommend.
- 4/5
The staff at the front desk went above and beyond to make my birthday weekend memorable.
- 5/5
Great location to gas lamp district restaurants andclubs
- 4/5
Bar inside, complimentary $20 for snacks and use room key to use elevator and get into building No sign of how much deposit was and no parking
- 3/5
The property was clean, well-maintained, and had beautiful views. The front desk staff were consistently pleasant, and staff overall were helpful—when housekeeping was unavailable for the evening, security stepped in and promptly brought us extra bedding, which we really appreciated. Valet service was friendly and efficient. The location is convenient, with close proximity to Balboa Park and the San Diego Zoo. There were a few issues during our stay that impacted the overall experience. The shower in our room appeared to be installed incorrectly—the handle was positioned in a way that made it seem like there was no hot water. We only discovered that hot water worked after turning the handle toward the “cold” side, which was confusing and inconvenient. I also experienced a room service issue—due to a delivery mix-up, my order was sent to the wrong room, and by the time I received it, the food was cold. Additionally, I did not receive my drink but was still charged for it. The hotel is located at the edge of the Gaslamp Quarter near a convenience store that attracts a high volume of transient individuals, which affected the overall comfort of the surrounding area.
- 3/5
Beautiful property with a lovely bar and restaurant on the first floor. Breakfast was delicious and had great hours—it’s served until noon, which was a nice bonus. The staff were consistently available, friendly, and helpful throughout the stay. Overall, I had a pleasant stay, but a few things are worth noting: 1. “Included breakfast” – This is actually a $50 credit to the downstairs restaurant. Prices are quite high (e.g., breakfast burrito ~$24, yogurt bowl ~$17, smoothie ~$16), so after tax and tip, it’s easy to exceed the credit—especially for two people, even without adding coffee or juice. This works better for solo travelers. 2. Location – The location is great and very convenient. However, during my stay there was a noticeable number of unhoused individuals congregating right outside the hotel, which made walking around alone feel a bit uncomfortable at times. This may be more of a general downtown issue than specific to the hotel. 3. Pool area – The rooftop pool was not heated and it was quite windy, so it didn’t feel as relaxing or luxurious as expected. Not a dealbreaker, but something to be aware of. 4. Bathroom design – The bathroom has a sliding glass door as the main entrance and a half-glass shower enclosure. This led to water spilling onto the floor, and there was minimal privacy and sound insulation. There is also no bathroom fan.

Clean rooms. Good Staff
- 4/5
I seen a few ppl with pets
- 5/5
The room was beautiful with a great view! Very comfortable bed. Loved the soaking tub and large balcony with seating. Also, the food and drinks at the Cafe Lounge Restaurants were really good! I would definitely stay at this hotel again. My only small complaint is that there were no drawers available for clothing. The homeless population outside the hotel was a little alarming and it tends to be a bit noisy at night in the area. The hotel is located in the Gaslamp downtown area, so it was understandable.
- 5/5
Great hotel. Refreshing pool. Location is in the heart of San Diego and by Gas Lamp,
- 5/5
What a beautiful hotel with gorgeous views and a great suite. We loved our 5 night stay here! The staff was amazing, especially Ericka and Trista at the cafe who we saw daily, their hospitality was outstanding! Wonderful walking distance to Gas Lamp and Ocean view park for CRSSDFEST. Cocktails and breakfasts were great every time.
- 1/5
Will not be returning Unclean room, staff is sneaky with adding charges and was gaslit by staff upon arrival to say I was in a different room than I booked.
- 5/5
Nice hotel, quiet rooms and modern amenities, helpful staff, great location and pool to boot!
- 5/5
Balcony suite had amazing views of the bay. Great location for bday weekend in the Gaslamp. Bar food was mid, but drinks were good.
- 4/5
Good rooms, but in a rough area
- 5/5
The staff was super friendly and accommodating as well If you want to stay on the busier side of town where all the action happens, this hotel is for you
- 4/5
Beautiful property and great location. Rooms are spacious and well appointed.
- 5/5
Amazing!!!! Very clean and well kept.
- 5/5
Room was clean and staff was amazing
- 4/5
Room was clean and staff was great. The noise level was a bit much.
- 5/5
Was able to upgrade to a beautiful suite for an additional $30. Bed was extremely comfortable and staff was very friendly! Gorgeous location next door to the Blue Note. Only thing to give a heads up on is overnight parking is pretty pricey.
- 4/5
Nice staff

- 5/5
Spotless courteous and clean and quiet
- 4/5
Cute hotel! A lot of the bad reviews come from the location as in the outside can be "sketchy" to some but honestly most places downtown are lol There are a lot of homeless outside but the staff does a great job keeping the lobby secure, you need key access after a certain time. Staff was great, Tre at the front desk was awesome. Room was spacious, modern and clean. I wish there was a jacuzzi on site, that would have been perfect. Loved the rooftop pool area as well. Thoroughly enjoyed my staycation. I will be back.
- 5/5
Good room. Nice pool
- 5/5
Staff was so helpful, room was perfect and hotel was situated well with great decor
- 5/5
Great location (Gaslamp quarter), Nice facilities, Comfortable rooms and beds Nothing not up to the mark
- 5/5
Excellent service, friendly staff, clean premises and room. Really nice view, and was super quiet at night. Honestly, it was well worth the price. They give you $20 a night as part of your destination/resort fee so it off balances the it somewhat. It's an excellent place, flat out.
- 5/5
I stayed one night and overall I really liked it. The room was a bit small for my liking, but it was very clean and the bathroom was beautiful — it had an amazing view of the city which I loved. The location is a big plus since it’s walking distance to restaurants, bars, and shops. They also offer valet parking which was super convenient. I would definitely stay here again and I do recommend it!
- 5/5
The room and view are amazing, by far the best place to stay in SD. Staff is incredible
- 5/5
Nice
- 5/5
The entire stay was enjoyable and they really take care and appreciate their customers. I highly recommend to anyone staying
- 5/5
Sushi was soo amazing !! She literally made our stay! Connecting us ahead of time and organizing a card for my son’s birthday, she made it feel like we were staying with a friend !! Loved the sheets and the bed was perfect ! (I am very picky!) the room was super quiet with a nice view! Loved the little bar area and the check in area was nice as well. Rooms could have had a bit more lighting but that was my only fatigue other than that a very wonderful stay. Susi made our stay feel personalized - she is a gem !!!
- 3.5/5
Does not provide parking Does not provide breakfast
- 5/5
Really nice hotel
- 4/5
Despite other reviews I found the neighborhood safe. Room was comfortable and staff courteous.
- 3/5
Overall, a decent hotel, but there are better with a view and in similar locations
- 1/5
We needed to cancel we are stuck in Mexico
- 4/5
Microwave not in the room, no shower door
- 5/5
Location because of the train noises
- 5/5
Friendly staff. Breakfast and beverage credit. Fee wine voucher. Accessible across the street parking. Clean and modern. Nice balcony. I wish there was an ice machine on the room floors. This is not a complaint bc I called front desk to ask where an ice machine was located and they advised that they are a per request facility and I was quickly provided with a generous amount of ice.
- 1.5/5
Location. Housekeeping. Poorly designed/small room.
- 5/5
The decor and vibe of the hotel was wonderful - did not feel like you were in a "standard" hotel room. Loved the extra drink and breakfast credits. Great location. Staff went above and beyond and left a special anniversary welcome in our room.
- 4/5
For a place to rest your head, it had a little more personality than your average, and the staff were all friendly. For the price, though, I was a little underwhelmed. Awkward mix of lighting temperatures in the room, the bathroom had a barn door, front desk was jammed into a corner of a very loud lobby, and f&b was really disappointing. I was glad for the $20 dining credit that was part of the destination fee, but beware that room service is served “takeout style” — so that meant I paid $37 (incl fees, before the credit) for two mediocre fish tacos to be delivered in a plastic box with disposable cutlery. Barista coffee the next morning was so bad I almost returned it. Marriott’s got an opportunity to make a good hotel better; I hope they take it.
- 5/5
Very nice place and we have really love our time there.
- 5/5
I do believe we got a queen room although I booked a king. If there is a cost difference, I would hope that was adjusted? I did ask for early check-in which was kindly given and we were fine to take the smaller room. Thank you.
- 5/5
Our balcony room was absolutely beautiful. The people working the front desk were incredibly kind too
- 5/5
Super pet friendly, amazing service, $20 daily credit to room is a nice touch!
- 4/5
Very friendly staff! We enjoyed our room and view. Modern, clean, and great service. Only caveats - slippery floor, rolling down blinds takes long, limited streaming ability, no shower door. Small things though. Overall great experience!
- 5/5
The staff were friendly, helpful, and attentive throughout our stay, which really made a difference. Our room was comfortable, well-designed, and quiet, making it easy to relax after a long day out. We also appreciated the thoughtful details and overall atmosphere of the hotel. Overall, Alma San Diego Downtown was a wonderful place to stay, and we would absolutely consider coming back the next time we’re in San Diego. Highly recommend!
- 2/5
First night we had to call front desk because TV was not working properly, after the third time engineering came up and telling us that it’s a glitch because tvs are cheap they have to install a sub par item to get tv viewing. They move us to a different room that night. Small lobby, no concession shop for snacks. Homeless people all over the downtown area. We didn’t feel safe to go out at night, area is full of homeless people and a lot of individuals seems like on drugs. Although they didn’t bother us we didn’t take the chance. A lot of transportation available. A lot of places to eat around the hotel. You might have to walk a bit but anything you want to eat, you’ll find it.
- 2/5
Lights in room weren’t bright upon arrival as well as phone was disconnected. Housekeeping never cleaned our room only switched towels once. Valet was really expensive $65 a night added another $150 to the total stay. Front desk wasn’t helpful with checking in problems just sent up maintenance and he knocked aggressively while we had “do not disturb” sign on door.
- 5/5
Every moment was amazing, from the friendly hotel staff, the respectful housekeepers, the comfy quiet poolside, convenient location, and the private yet peaceful rooms. We had an amazing time and would love to continue using this hotel as our makeshift vacation getaway.
- 5/5
Always

Friendly staff throughout stay and clean rooms
- 5/5
nice location, clean rooms, and frienly staff
- 5/5
Everything
- 3/5
We requested a room change; however, the hotel was fully booked until the fourth night, so we had to remain in the same room for most of our stay. Additionally, there were many homeless individuals around the hotel. While the property did have security and we did feel safe, it still made the environment less pleasant. I was also surprised to find that there was no coffee machine in the room!!
- 2/5
The staff was friendly but we were not thrilled with the overall condition of the rooms. The first room had a significant amount of mold in The bathroom and the second room just didn't appear super clean. The hotel has a lot of homeless around it in the evenings and also a lot of street noise until 2-3am. The food was average and hotel parking was overpriced and should have been indicated on booking for consideration.
- 5/5
Cool property

Staff was amazing. Room was really nice and the view was PERFECT.

TV didnt work. Poor wifi.

Room was amazing! Amenities were awesome! Staff was super nice!

Lovely hotel. Really enjoyed the complimentary bottle of wine as well as how convenient it was to walk to restaurants & bars .

ROOM 2008 - Loft Suite Pro: soaking tub, spaciousness, cool open window balcony to look over Con: bed pillows were super soft we woke up too sunked in and necks hurt. By the bed, there is vent where you can hear all the commotion of the outside. (People laughing, dogs barking, sirens, etc) and yet we are all the way on the 20th floor but felt like someone was outside of our window. Random odor of rotten eggs, wet dog smell from couch

Just a great experience!
- 5/5
The location was somewhat central for our day trips to La Jolla and Coronado Island, which was great. It felt like everything was not too far away from the hotel. That staff were friendly, professional and efficient. The area outside the hotel seems to not be in the best area. There were always more homeless people in this area than I saw anywhere else. Even the nearby CVS had heightened security with a guard at the door and every (and I mean EVERY) item locked up. We enjoyed our stay and never felt unsafe.
- 3/5
Property aesthetic is modern & hip. Definitely upgrade to suites with tubs! Bathrooms are slippery, be very mindful. Expedia lists daily deposit as $100/night, but hotel says $150/night, weird miscommunication.
- 5/5
Nice place and Friendly staff 10/10
- 5/5
The staff was outstanding. Loved the pool.
- 4/5
However, as soon as you go 10 yards away from the hotel there were multiple homeless in various mental states and a guy who often had his pants off. Luckily we were there to attend a concert next door so we didn’t go far but the state of the Gas lamp area really saddened me.
- 5/5
Staff
- 5/5
Staff and service were great. Room was cute as described
- 5/5
Kudos to him
- 4/5
Although we didn’t get a chance to try it, the bar looked great, and the hotel seemed to offer plenty of daily activities that looked fun if you have the time to join in. One thing I wish I had known beforehand is that the hotel is located in an area with a large unhoused population. At night, there was visible drug use in the surrounding streets. The hotel does offer valet service, which is convenient, but if you plan to park offsite, be prepared to walk through these areas.
- 5/5
Clean room, friendly staff and had a great view from my room
- 4/5
I like the hotel itself, but Marriott should do something about temperature control. Woke up in sweats.

Staff was awful. Do not stay here. Disruptive and unwelcoming property. Will not return.

Very nice hotel . Conveniently located .
- 5/5
Very nice.
- 4/5
Staff was friendly; but there was music at the pool one night and it was too loud. After turning on the white noise and pulling all the blinds the music still vibrated through our room. Food in dining area was good. Transportation was easy and the gaslight district was fun.
- 5/5
Great place to stay in Downtown SD. Convenient location, nice hotel for a good price, friendly and accommodating staff. Would stay here again!
- 5/5
I liked the staff welcome
- 4/5
I loved the decor and how beautifully designed everything is. I didn't like that we couldnt self park and we looked like a bunch of gypsy's unloading at the curb. The staff at the pool bar, ("leave of absence") was not friendly at all. We had to wait almost two hours after check-in to get our room and you think they would try to make you as comfortable as possible at the pool bar asking if you need drinks, trying to get you to spend money. We had two kids with us so to wait like we did was a big deal. But they just walked passed us and didn't even acknowledge we were there, we had to go to the bar and ask for drinks. Thank God for Sophia at the front desk. She was super sweet and was really apologetic for the wait, even though it was out of her control. The beds were very comfortable and we had a decent city view. Overall it was a nice time.
- 4/5
Need a towel hook closer to the shower and better lighting in bedroom of the suite
- 4/5
The property was dirty and a ton of homeless drug addicts surrounding the property

The hotel is great. Really nice. Easily can walk to all the bars and nightlife in Gaslamp. Great service!
- 4/5
The little extra charges. Valet only no self park. 65.00 valet plus 35.00 amenities. That's an additional 100.00 plus taxes and other fees.
- 5/5
Will be back Gabriel bartender was amazing Angel too 👌
- 5/5
The room and amenities were nice. Close to dining and entertainment options.
- 5/5
Great people, had my question answer right away and they are really quick for things that you need for example towels, ice and bringing my car right away. We’ll definitely come back.
- 5/5
Right outside the hotel is kept up nice. Very close to the hotel has a good amount of homeless people.
- 5/5
All staff are very professional and friendly!! I’ll definitely come back next time!!!
- 5/5
Great place to stay in Gaslamp district . Staff is extremely nice . Will definitely come back

-I received the option of a 10am check in two weeks before my arrival which I took advantage of but my request was never acknowledged. I called two days before check in and was told the hotel would not know availability until the day of and to call back at 11am. I received a txt message two hours before check in that my request couldn’t be fulfilled. -2 of the days I stayed at the hotel the street was blocked off and surrounded by police so I couldn’t get in front of the hotel unless I parked elsewhere and walked. -2 out of the 4 USB sockets did not work, neither did the closet light, or emergency flashlight in the bed room. -Our view from the dirty window was the lovely AC piping which knocked but wasn’t too noticeable as we slept. -The streets were lined with homeless and litter which I know might be out of the hotels control. -The decor in the room looked as if it was bought from a thrift mart with a few odd pictures above 1 bed and a few more at the entry way. The rest of the room was empty like it was left unfinished. -Valet rarely opened any doors or offered assistance. Every time my vehicle was brought I had to adjust the seat settings and the AC. My vehicle wait time was minimal and I did request it often but it’s hard to justify $65 a night and then hit with taxes and a guest amenity fee every night totaling over $630! -On top of these fees there’s also $150/night resort fee for usual amenities, 2 cups of wine per night and $20credit/night
- 5/5
The exceptional staff, from the concierge Sophia, who provided amazing service, with a smile, to Gabriel, the bartender, who made the stay even more enjoyable, and everyone in between…the customer service was outstanding.
- 5/5
New and clean hotel
- 4/5
Friendly staff and a good breakfast.
- 4/5
All the staff we interacted with were extremely friendly, welcoming and helpful. The room was quite spacious with a large washroom as well.
- 5/5
It felt safe and clean. Security at the door 247
- 5/5
Super close to all the fun!
- 4/5
It was ok. Not worth what I paid and they wanted to charge me $50 to check me in to an available clean room early. Greedy…
- 4/5
Furniture was just a little outdated but nice
- 3/5
Mostly on par for a Marriott property. The bed was very comfortable and most amenities were good. Then the water got turned off without notice for at least 2 hours. Also, there was a party by the pool mid-day that made the area unusable for relaxing. Most of the people there were non-guests. All of this with no offer for a credit on the bill!
- 4/5
I like luxury on a budget and was a bit disappointed with the Alma San Diego. Staff were amazing as was the bed. I would call the room minimalist. It was little more than a square. The tv remote didn't work, neither did the electrical outlets next to the bed for phone charging. Also the overhead light didn’t work. There were 2 small drawers for clothes and a very small closet. The trolley ran next to the hotel, thus there was a continual ringing about every 5 minutes. The property did provide a white noise machine that we used when in the room. Food choices were limited but it was very good. For the price, I won't return to this property.
- 2/5
Then it isn’t safe at all, sooo many unhoused people and dirty area and very very noisy! I will never stay again and if you’re looking for a get away this isn’t the place for a pleasant trip.
- 3/5
My overall stay was good. My room was nice and clean. Customer service was whatever. The negatives are, valet parking cost $65 dollars a day with no other parking options. There’s homeless people everywhere which makes going out at night not safe. There was a murder at a lounge called Cielo Rooftop lounge, that was a block from my hotel. Lastly, I didn’t have hot water the last day I was there, so I was unable to take a hot/warm shower. This hotel wouldn’t be my first option when I visit San Diego again.
- 5/5
Liked the food/beverage credit we received and the complimentary bottle of wine upon our check in
- 2/5
Next the transient population outside of the hotel was unsafe. There was a transient outside the hotel smoking meth just last night. Lastly. The check-in process. I didn’t know we were basically forced to do valet parking and on my reservation.online check in. I wanted check in by 1200. Needless to say, the room wasn’t ready Room was great though
- 3/5
Room wasn’t ready till 5:30 pm, room key stopped working twice
- 4/5
The staff and service were exceptional—truly welcoming and attentive! The pool wasn’t heated, but it was still a pleasant area to relax and unwind. One issue I noticed was the showerhead, which was positioned at an awkward angle. This setup isn’t very convenient, especially for Black women who may need to avoid getting their hair wet. I’d strongly recommend considering a more inclusive and flexible shower design. Overall, the ambiance was fantastic and really added to the experience!
- 5/5
Good food and the complimentary wine was a nice touch. Room requests were accommodated and the adjoining setup was perfect for our family. Rooftop patio area was nice and the lobby bar was a good vibe at night.
- 5/5
Location and secure building
- 5/5
Excellent place
- 5/5
Friendly staff and parking was easy
- 5/5
I will definitely be coming back this hotel was beautiful inside and out plenty of restaurants, bars, and even clubs everything shuts down at 2:00 am which is plenty of time to go out have fun and then come back to a beautiful quiet room for much deserved sleep
- 2/5
First off let me say the hotel was gorgeous and very clean. However once you step outside and you try to go a block north or south you run into homeless. I’m originally from NY, I know how to deal with them but this is a different level. Outside the hotel doors the streets are dirty, the bums are smoking crack and literally dropping fecal matter on the streets. From the time we walked from the hotel to the convention center and vice versa we were nearly disgusted. Once we got back to the hotel at night we never left. There is nothing to do within a block or two walking distance as everything is a club, or it’s disgusting. You couldn’t tell in the sidewalks were wet from water or the bums relieving themselves. We did absolutely enjoy our hotel stay and the onsite restaurant was great, but there was nothing else for us to do. We left the hotel just ready to get back home. So much so we got the airport about 7hours early because downtown San Diego (away from gas lamp) is absolute garbage. Being there made my wife and I enjoy and appreciate where we live now. We would not book this hotel again, until the city gets a much needed clean up. OH! The best part is that in top of the expensive stay you have to pay tourism taxes, and fees EVERY SINGLE DAY. We paid over $200+ for tourism fees just to stay in the city. I’ve never heard of that before, but I guess that’s a California thing. They should pay us to stay there, seeing as how much of a dump California actually is.
- 3/5
The property itself is beautiful and clean and staff were very helpful and friendly. However, we will not be staying here again because of their “incidental” policy.
- 5/5
Great hotel will stay here whenever I’m in San Diego
- 5/5
Wish there was coffee more readily available. They have it in the lobby but only during morning hours and it wasn’t displayed or consistent. However, it WAS good when we caught it and they brought us a Keurig to our room upon request. Beds were the most comfortable EVER. Sheets were crisp and clean. Lobby was beautiful and staff were super friendly. Pool was so inviting and set up was beautifully decorated.
- 5/5
Such a nice hotel. The room was spacious and clean. I really liked it. The only downside was that it was rather dark as only two bedside type side lights were available. The service was wonderful. Trey at the desk was w fantastic and quite helpful. Juan who worked at the Valet was also extremely helpful.
- 5/5
Cute chic hotel- they offered free filter water and free morning hot coffee. The hotel cafe was convenient and good. Hotel staff were very friendly. My only complaint was hearing the bus track noise every a couple of minutes. We were on the 20th floor which was nice but on the city view side.
- 3/5
It WAS convenient to the trolley line but as a result is surrounded by homeless and panhandlers. The room was dimly lit without opening all the curtains. No real door to the bathroom, just a sliding glass door. No fan in the bathroom so the mirror fogs easily from the shower (no tub) The room DOES have USB charging ports but no real night stand - just a mini shelf big enough for a phone. There is a digital safe in the closet and a mini fridge
- 5/5
Nice clean rooms, very spacious. Clean hotel all around.
- 5/5
Love the location, walked to the seaport village, great location to food and entertainment, 7-11 next door attracts homeless people.
- 5/5
Love this location. Very welcoming and accommodating. Will definitely recommend this place to everyone! Great location, good coffee, and good service. I’ll be back for sure
- 5/5
Quiet comfort but completely accessible to everything San Diego has to offer.
- 4/5
The hotel was clean, the location to the ball park was good. The room service was sufficient. No ice on the floor. The streets were dirty with lots of homeless people wandering.
- 4/5
loved the atmosphere of the property. we were treated well upon arrival and our needs were tended too quickly. only downfall is the amount of homeless around this area
- 5/5
Good
- 5/5
Amazing room and spacious as well !
- 4/5
Staff was friendly and very accommodating. The hotel is clean. The best part is the balcony. The only downside is the train noise at night
- 5/5
Hotel was great very clean and staff was excellent. The area is in a re growing area of the gas lamp area and had a lot of homeless people in the area. Would not recommend for small children in the party. Very adult friendly.
- 3/5
The hotel is fine. My room is nice and big because I upgraded myself for $30 not realizing that there was an additional $35 fee just for being here every day so that’s another 70 bucks that I didn’t know I would be responsible for All of the people that work here is sweet as can be and it’s not their fault they work in the most disgusting area in San Diego. Downtown San Diego just avoid it altogether. I don’t care what your rate is on your hotel room pay $50 more to stay somewhere nicer as far as the neighborhood goes. The room comes provided with two capsules for the Nespresso maker that are caffeinated and two that are decaf and coffee mat The pool looks inviting, but it’s a cold July day and overcast I ordered food at the bar for breakfast which they said I could take up to my room. I asked for scrambled eggs and well-done sausages, which all had clearly been premade before I ordered. They were stone cold by the time I got to my room. So maybe if the world were a little different I would consider staying here again, but to walk out the front door and feel like you’re in the middle of an apocalypse is not ideal . And my biggest tip should you choose to stay here and spend any time at all in your room ask for the rooms away from the tracks because they honk incessantl
- 5/5
San Diego best HANDS DOWN!
- 4/5
The Alma is clean, modern and beautiful.
- 5/5
Staff was amazing. Close to restaurants and Petco Park.
- 5/5
Very nice and calm hotel.
- 3/5
There’s a lot of unhoused/ addicts roaming around the area asking for change and food. The hotel did feel safe though. The staff was subpar except for the Sophia at the front desk! She was great! Check-in went kinda of quick. The room was dusty especially in the bathroom, there was pet fur in multiple places which made my allergies act up. We just used this place just to sleep after our long days on the town so I guess it’s whatever. Was not made aware that they charge you $150 incidental fee for each day you stay until after I checked out and saw multiple charges for $150 plus the $60 a day valet fee plus the $35 a day amenity fee. I requested a new set of towels at 6:45 am and didn’t get them until I called guest services at 8 pm because no one ever showed up. To be fair it was 4th of July weekend so hopefully during normal dates there’s more attention to detail being paid to guests needs. The hotel was ok but there are better places to stay for the amount of money it cost to have a good trip in downtown San Diego.
- 5/5
Staff were amazing. Tyson from valet parking was incredible. Everyone so fruendly. Highly recommend.
- 5/5
Cute hotel, close to Gaslamp and Little Italy. Great rooftop pool and bar area.
- 5/5

Nice place ❤️
- 5/5
Clean rooms. Great coffee and tea in the morning. Nice pool and gym. Friendly staff!
- 5/5
Bed was super comfy! View was amazing! Food at cafe and the pool bar was delicious! Prime location in the heart of San Diego!
- 5/5
Everything was great but there was hair all over the couch and in The shower. Other than that, place was clean and service Was friendly. A lot of unsavory types hanging around the outside of the hotel but as long as you got in and out Of your car or ride no one bothered you.
- 5/5
Great hotel, very close to Gaslamp. I love that they have bikes available for the day to explore the city
- 4/5
The hotel reception was wonderful. There is a pool and a fitness center. The room was spacious, but probably needs to be refreshed to a common/uniform style. There is no business center but there is a flexible space if you need to work. The hotel is the gem in the downtown area. Thank you!
- 5/5
Loved the makeup washcloth. Nice touch. Hated that parking price wasn’t stated upfront.
- 5/5
Staff was great upon check in. Greeted me when returning to the hotel throughout the day. Clean and well decorated. Would return when back in the area. Didn’t really use any of the amenities because I was out and about all day exploring the city but loved the options. Multiple restaurants, pool, fitness area, bar.
- 4/5
Great stat other than all the junkies lingering outside the hitel
- 5/5
Clean, convenient, well-appointed hotel. We enjoyed dining at the hotel restaurant, found the reception staff very helpful and informative and the room was spacious and comfortable.
- 5/5
Great room! Great service, good bar.
- 5/5
Absolutely perfect! Love our entire experience. Great atmosphere, food, pool, and cocktails. Central to everywhere we wanted to go!
- 5/5
I loved the resort style feel of this hotel, the pool had such great vibes and was exactly what I was looking for as a solo traveler!
- 5/5
Though I only stayed a single night it meet my expectations. Room was very clean and didnt have carpet which was a plus for me. Water pressure was good. The room was overall comfortable. I will stay again in the future.
- 5/5
Very nice hotel. Neighborhood is a little rundown but hotel central to everything.
