Reviews
The hotel is praised for its central location in Hillcrest, close to dining, shopping, and attractions. Guests appreciate the unique design and decor of the rooms, but many find the bathroom layout awkward due to lack of privacy. The staff is generally described as friendly and helpful.

The staff working at the cafe downstairs was amazing!! My room was spacious and comfortable. Absolutely will stay here again!

Good location and nice cafe on the ground level. Quite noisy and a bit cramped of a room design.

The staff was super awesome, personal and accommodating.

Excellent location with amazing staff and management team.

The hotel is ideally located in the Hillcrest gayborhood:) The owners are both kind and personable—and their in-house cafe is delicious. Check-in was very easy. I got lucky with street parking while I was there. I’d definitely stay again!

Good value. Quirky / weird / cool hotel.

This is a wonderful place to stay. I had a room with the bathroom. My only issue was that the room has 2 full walls of windows with no way to block light. Just pack an eye mask. As this is located in an active neighborhood (which is an amazing location) The room is very bright all night and no way to sleep after sunrise. The restaurant is very good and the staff was helpful, however it doesn't open till 8 am so not ideal for the early riser. It is an unusual and fun space. So many codes the gate, the elevator, the room, although this does make contactless check in easy you need to have open hands for your phone and keypads. I highly recommend this amazing haven in the city.

Great for a weekend trip.

Lee and family members were extremely accommodating. Hotel was clean and location was excellent. Restaurants, markets , night life were all within walking distance . Downstairs restaurant was excellent and had great food!

There is now a manager on hand to help with check-in. Parking can be challenging and there are homeless folks the property.

if you like a darkish room to sleep in Room 202 is not a good choice and quite a bit of street noise. During the day though it is full of light and very pleasant

I really enjoyed my stay here. The owner is super friendly and chill. As long as there is communication on both sides, I think it's a win/win situation. The parking garage is a bit small but other than that everything else was just as I imagined. : ) I can't wait for the future trip.

I wanted to try something different but it didn’t work for us. However, the staff was very helpful and nice. We checked out early because this location was clearly for the younger generation. It was a bit too compacted for us.
- 3/5
Mostly a staff-less system where you get a text message with check-in instructions. Nice cafe on main level with nice staff and great food. Lots of dump trucks at 6am waking us up each morning, as well as homeless people yelling at times. The shower and toilet situation was also pretty basic. There is an air conditioning unit located under the only table in the room that makes sitting at the table a freezing experience.

I gave this review 4 stars due to the excellent location. A star was removed due to the restroom situation being completely exposed. If you're a solo traveler then it's tolerable, but I couldn't imagine having another person in the room with a semi-exposed restroom. I had a premium room and overall enjoyed it. Great for a short stay.

Location is great, easy to get in and out. Entry way is spacious. Appreciate how eco friendly the toilet is. The amount of water that pours out of shower due to shower curtain defeats the eco friendly aspect in my opinion. Either bed frame needs to be replaced or needs lubrication because there was a constant creek when on it. Mattress itself has a dip.

The restaurant is terrific especially for breakfast.

Furnishings were basic, but the bed was comfortable, everything was clean, the staff were very friendly, and the cafe downstairs was terrific. For the money, it was a good value, and I would stay here again.
- 5/5
Rooms are clean, the building and rooms feel secure with codes and locks. Building is furnished in a decent manner. Staff are helpful when asked about concerns. Local area is not too bad, very local to restaurants, bars and the zoo; only concern with the area is the 7eleven on the corner and the alleyway attracts the displaced. parking is very limited but kept clean and well lit.

Location: close to many nice restaurants in Hillcrest
- 5/5
This was one of my favorite hotels I’ve ever stayed at! Beautiful building, great hotel room, simple check in. Cool neighborhood, close to many other great neighborhoods. My room was far larger than I imagined, felt very palatial. System for entering was simple, though I read the instructions too quickly and required some assistance (which was there when I needed). There’s a fantastic little restaurant on the street level - only open for brunch hours - which has great food and coffee, etc. I’ll go back for sure.
- 5/5
The cafe downstairs is worth visiting this property alone . Lee and Mel serve up delicious food and manage this hotel with warm hospitality .
- 4/5
Central, easy location to get around the city. Perfect point to go anywhere Seems incomplete in its construction. Although not badly done, I’m not sure they put attention as to how to construct different pieces of the room when they subdivided each unit.

the elevator requires a code me and my friend went on a girls trip to San Diego. Based on the photos, the place looks very upscale, modern and clean. The exact opposite was what we were encountered with when we entered the room not only was it not ocean view as listed, the walls around the bathroom were literally just screwed in plywood. The floors were concrete. Water damage to wall in bathroom. NOTHING like the photos.

Buyer beware, the rooms are extremely small and the concept is more like a tree house configuration. Having to climb ladder to beds that are confined and closed off with the exception of a cut out hole. If you have trouble being in small places this will not be the place for you.
- 5/5
What a wonderful place to stay for a solo stay! It was my first time doing a solo trip away. The only thing that was a bit of a let down was the shower. The way the shower is built allows water to flow out to the bathroom floor which ended up going to the main room. Other than that it was a 10/10 stay and would recommend to anyone!
- 5/5
Centrally located! The only hotel in Hillcrest. Why? The room was clean and spacious. The staff were very helpful. I loved the view. It was well worth the cost.
- 5/5
The room was so cute! My boyfriend and I only stayed for one night, check in was so smooth. Contactless. Parking was a little expensive next to the hotel. The hotel was so clean, no smoke smell.

I love staying here in San Diego with such a fun place
- 5/5
The location is fantastic. Everything you could want is within easy walking distance: grocery stores, fun entertainment options, and a great variety of restaurants. It made getting around effortless and added so much convenience to my stay. The views from the hotel were stunning — I could have sat by the window for hours just soaking it all in. Nights were wonderfully quiet, giving me the peaceful sleep I was hoping for. Parking was available, which is always a bonus, though it did feel a bit crowded and came with a higher price tag than I expected. That was really the only minor drawback during an otherwise excellent visit. Overall, Abpopa Hotel delivered a comfortable, convenient, and memorable stay. I’d happily return and highly recommend it to anyone looking for a great base in the area!
- 4/5
This is a very unique property. Everything was contactless you entered your credit card and photo ID and they gave you a code to enter the building. The rooms were very unique.
- 4/5
Aside from that the place was great. Very secure and the staff were amazingly nice and accommodating. Walls are thin, so you will hear the people above you and next to you, but it does great quiet around 10-11pm. I will probably not go back, just because of the noise. I am a super light sleeper so, that’s the only reason why. Otherwise, go. It’s super family friendly.
- 1/5
The good thing was the management was very kind. They have good security systems in place, to enter the building and going up and down the elevators you have to put a code. We did not complete our stay, we left a day early, we got some money back and booked a best western nearby.
- 4/5
Really great location and cool modern property. Was very clean and would definitely stay here again for a short visit. The only thing that was a surprise were the bathrooms; they’re a tad rustic (really small, surrounded by a plywood structure, no mirrors) so it’s kind of like a “glamping” experience in that sense. There are no full length mirrors in the space, but the beds are really comfortable. Great for a budget stay!

Modern, clean, and convenient. The rooms are nice, but the downstairs cafe is the real winner. Great coffee and delicious breakfast options (the acai bowls are a must-try!). Would definitely stay here again.
- 3/5
Room definitely needs some love. Scuffed, scratched walls, dust buildup in higher areas. If you rent a loft bed room, beware, it's not easy going up and down, especially in the middle of the night. Mattress was very soft, pillows lumpy. There are no blackout curtains, so it is quite light in the room at night.
- 5/5
The hotel is strategically located in the San Diego Hillcrest area is walking distance to the restaurants, bars, shopping. The hotel had easy check-in and check out services. The hotel room has a large open floor plan with lots of light.

This has been my Favourite! stay in quite some time. I booked the Panoramic room and was not disappointed! It is the largest room offered. Essentially a loft apartment. Watching the sunset was amazing ( I posted to my socials it was so beautiful). The next morning, I wandered down to the outdoor cafe in the lobby and treated myself to an amazing breakfast and latte. It is a quirky, funky and fabulous hotel. NOTHING ordinary about it. LOVE,LOVE,LOVE!

Great location for a traveler that doesn’t require a lot of hand holding as staff is rarely on site. Bathrooms are functional rather than spa-like. Thin walls provide an opportunity to learn about your neighbors without even having to meet them.

Four things were outstanding. First, the location could not have been better: very short walking distance to restaurants, bars, and coffee shops. Second, the room had huge windows with amazing 5th floor views of the city. Third, the little restaurant downstairs had great coffee and a very good breakfast. Fourth, the price was very reasonable for the location. The problem is that I had no access to TV or WiFi during my three-night stay. While there was a large-screen Tv in the room, there was no remote control so there was no way to use the TV. Compounding that problem is that there was really nobody to complain to. There is no "front desk." You check in using your phone and are given access codes and wi-fi passwords, but nobody seems to be in charge. I finally managed to find someone but they simply confirmed that they couldn't find the remote either. Nothing was done. The wi-fi password I was given by text did not work, either, so I had to use the internet with my own hotspot. The room, while surrounded by huge windows with great views, was very spare. And it really needed a paint job. Basically, this place would be terrific if it had some management and some onsite personnel who actually take care of problems.

It's a quirky space with excellent views. Lots of windows. It can get a little hot in the afternoon. Just shut some of the blinds and the AC will catch up. The bed was comfy. The stairs up to the bed took a little time to get use to.

No one is really there, you enter with codes, you ride the elevator with codes, you get in your room with codes. Outside entry is unlit, at night, a risk. It's next door, or a door up, to a place like a 7/11, full of junkies, folks sprawled on the sidewalk, or standing about, you walk past this, to the dark gate and enter an entry code (suggest you do it quickly!) I would rate it, high risk at night and I'm a big guy. The room seemed like it might be cleaned weekly. The sink is part of the toilet tank. You straddle the toilet bowel, to wash your hands, face. The view, is not like the photos. I rented the better room " "Premier Studio, City View"and my windows looked into a CLOSE adjoining property, I to keep the shades down. I had prepaid my room through Expedia $368.54, for two nights. I have my credit card set, to immediately notify me of a charge. After I checked out, a charge of $801. popped up on my Visa, it took several calls to get them to acknowledge the error/charge. Then a few more to reaffirm it wasn't put on my card. it, by no means, looked like the one in the photo, if there is one like that, it's a bet you'll get it, even though you are paying more, my room was quite small. There is free street parking in the neighborhood, a block away, glad I didn't pay the parking fee (2 hours parking after 10AM, so, just get to your car by noon ;)

In need of painting, repair,… “loft bedroom” access was by climbing attic pull down type stairs. 3 separate numbers and instructions to 1)enter building, 2)upon entering elevator and 3)entering room. How about a passkey. No daily service. Poor and above all, the dirtiest hotel I’ve ever been in. Thank god I was by myself because I’d be totally embarrassed if I brought someone.

Large, clean room for the price. Cement floors, soft bed that dipped in the center (could use a better mattress), so not too comfortable. Lots of plugs. Hot water pot boiler was nice. Very easy check in. Need somewhere to hang clothes. Street parking is challenging if you don’t want to pay the hotel parking fee ($25) for one of the few spots on site. Good for a 1 night stay. Excellent value.

Room was clean but the bed needs to be replaced. Little things were not working, like light switches, remotes and refrigerators. It's like the owners just gave up on general updates and simple repairs. Sad because the hotel seems promising because it is close to food, bars and Balboa Park. It wouldn't take much to make this hotel a winner.

We were very sad to stay here. We thought it would have a "Bay View," but you could barely see a scratch of it in the distance. The shower flooded every time it was used. The bathroom mat stayed wet due to the flooding shower. Overall, it was not the experience we were hoping for.

Well, the breakfast wasn't free (it was $60), but it was quite good. The room was gigantic & had a fantastic view, and the location was great. Things in the room showed some use, though. The sink fixtures were falling apart, and some of the lights were burnt out. But we had a great stay, and the bed is super comfy. A nice spot that just needs a little more TLC than it is currently gettting.

This was my first time staying here, and I really loved it. Cannot beat the location. Room was large, very clean. I loved all the glass, The view was astounding. The only thing that could have been better was if they had a closet pole or dresser drawers. There was nowhere to put my clothes. Would definitely stay here again.

The hotel itself was great. Amazing security and I loved my room. The bathroom to the door took some getting used to but overall; great hotel. The area around it is making me not stay here again. There was yelling constantly through the night or I couldn’t walk down to the restaurants because of the homeless

Great views but the bathroom is not in its own room and has no privacy. It is basically a stall in the room. It feels very much like a hostel. The shower was dirty and the shower bar was held together with a paper towel.

This is an interesting hotel to say the least with respect to the concept of the rooms. I got a room with a full size bed that was up a tiny ladder. The ceiling was so low that you could not stand in the bedroom. I’m not a fan of the bathroom being in the middle of the room separated by only a foldable wall. Great location, it was clean, easy check in, and helpful staff. But it just felt more like a hostel.

The Internet was slow though. Maybe it was just in my room because I saw lots of people were using their laptops downstairs. Also the amount of homeless people around the hotel doesn’t add it a charm. The AC was working but because of the room design, the living area was not getting enough cool air, making it hot while it was freezing by the entrance and kitchen area. This place has an interesting design, but I wish the maintenance of this place was better.

It was interesting. Two lofts with two twin beds in one and a queen in the other. One twin bed was an actual mattress and the other was just a pad. The queen bed was very comfortable. The rooms are directly over a gas station (7-11). It really felt more like a hostel than a hotel. It served its purpose.

I regret that I only had 1 night to experience the service at this place. Everything was great, the room was clean, not too big but comfortable. Plus points for this place being close to downtown and the places I wanted to go. I will come back.

This hotel was perfect location in Hillcrest. The room was great… lots of windows and great views while in bed. Nice living space and kitchen… comfortable bed. The weird and disappointing thing was the bathroom which was a toilet and shower behind a black plywood partition… so sharing this room, you want to have a comfort level with your partner. But beautiful room for sure.. not sure if all the rooms are… and Vincent was awesome helping with check in and information.

Super dirty - as in sticky floor, stained furniture. Shower moldy. No mirror. Toilet had sink behind it to save water (ok) but how on earth would you wash your face or brush your teeth?!? The bowl was smaller than the tank cover. Straddling the toilet would be the only option. Odd elevator with a code that you had to punch into a box that was half off. Just…. Nasty.

stylish room, excellent walkable hillcrest location. we booked for 1 night and extended for another. a few things to be aware of in advance if you’re a couple considering staying in the unit 1. the length of the bed barely fits in the space so if you’re on the far side u can get around the bed but just barely (maybe 6-9” of free space) 2. the bathroom is suboptimal — unnecessarily tiny and open at the top and only has a tiny eco sink above the toilet. the main sink i used was in the kitchen. with the design, bathroom noise travels so unit really much better for a single than a couple or good for a couple that doesn’t care 3. the picture of the room that i saw showed a desk but our room just had a narrow table big ebnough for the flat screen tv sitting on it, so i repurposed the living room table as a desk for my computer despite some of the issues with the bed space and bathroom design, it was a great value for a really stylish unit in a great location. for the right people, highly recommend
- 5/5
Perfect spot to be in the heart of the city
- 4/5
The check in was contactless but painless and convenient. This isn’t how conventional hotels are but I like it for what it is. It’s close to restaurants and shops.
- 1/5
I really WANTED to like this hotel, as it’s independent and eclectic. Sadly, it’s the second worst hotel I’ve ever stayed in. The rooms are utterly impractical. There is no closet, and not even hooks and hangers. There is a single “overcoat” hook by the front door. There is no bathroom. The toilet and shower are in the living room behind a moveable screen. There are two sets of steps (two steps each), one leading to the galley “kitchen” (just a counter, sink, mini fridge, microwave, and a few cupboards. The last set leads to the bed, which takes up the entire landing. The bed is ridiculously low, making it very difficult to get up from it, and the mattress was very uncomfortable. If you have ANY mobility issues, this is a death trap. It’s very easy to fall. The promotional materials don’t reveal the full impractical nature of the rooms. Hotels.com should de-platform this hotel, and the hotel should be investigated for ADA issues.
- 5/5
Front desk worker Paul was very nice and respectful & overall was a excellent and fun room for the night
- 5/5
Great tiny little hotel next to everything in the Gaslamp area of San Diego.
- 3/5
Outside there were multiple drug addicts hanging in front of the building and next-door at 7 eleven. Parking was not explained. We parked on the street. We did not get a ticket thank God.
- 5/5
Always love my stay at Abpopa Hillcrest, one of my favorite hotels! Great location and hotel is stylish with great art
- 2/5
The chairs in the room were filthy dirty with stains.
- 5/5
Loved the hotel - check in was so easy - staff was responsive - only note I would give to people is that the bathroom is not a private bathroom, just separated by a divider
- 5/5
The view of the rooms are amaing
- 2/5
It looks spacious but the master bathroom is a plywood space that is open at the top for all noise to be heard.. and tiny. Sink to brush teeth is a ‘kitchette sink”. The floors were sticky; make noise when walked upon. The other bathroom was a bathtub next to the bed in the CARPETED bedroom! Bed and tub next to each other with carpet as you get out if tub!!!! Reminded me of traveling in the 90’s in eastern block countries in Europe. Noisy noisy dirty hillcrest neighborhood right next to 7-11. Would never stay again nor recommend
- 5/5
stayed here every time we visit San Diego and we love the convenience of the options around us
- 4/5
Loved the building and style. Very comfortable The bathroom was interesting. No door but we managed
- 2/5
Pros: Plenty of places to eat in the area Close to old town and balboa park Good water pressure in shower Room had plenty of space Cons: Noisy - no soundproofing, so you get noise from the street and adjoining rooms Blinds are thin and don’t block any light No kettle or coffee maker or toaster No bathroom cabinet, just a toilet next to the shower No servicing, so you don’t get toilet paper topped up or rubbish removed during your stay No drawers or wardrobe/hanging space for clothes Kitchen crockery was just a corkscrew and butter knife Air conditioning didn’t work There was no laundry facilities (hotels.com said there was)
- 2/5
Not very user-friendly the bed was very comfortable. Other than that I have nothing else. Good to say. The restaurant downstairs for breakfast was excellent.
- 4/5
Great little spot with friendly staff who were always willing to help. Beds was comfortable, water pressure in the shower was great. Would stay again
- 5/5
I had a very smooth check-in. Just checked in on the building’s website. They gave me a passcode to get through the front gate passcode for the elevator and a passcode for the room. The room was pretty unique, sort of whimsical and fun. The bed was so comfortable I slept a full eight hours each night, which is very odd for me. I would definitely recommend staying here while in San Diego
- 5/5

The property manager was cool but the room was a little dirty
- 5/5
Great property. Rooms are very differnt than any traditional hotel but offer some interesting and fun options. My favorite features are the lofted bedrooms and large windows letting in tons of light and offering sweet views of the city. Upper floors can even see the bay in the distance. Clean, modern, and contactless, ideal for any younger couple or family.
- 3/5
Old uncomfortable beds. Accessible location lots of great places to dine within walking distance, everyone is super nice. At night is another story. Scary, drunk/junkies outside the door laid out on sidewalk walkway. Do not go out at night. I was frightened and shaking when I went to get water at the gas station next door. Not a good experience. Do not go out at night.
- 4/5
All was clean and worked great. The area is lively, with restaurants and bars. It seemed very safe and friendly.
- 5/5
Great place to stay!
- 5/5
I was going out downtown and wanted a close stay but that had onsite parking as I didn't want to leave my car downtown overnight. Abpopa was the perfect place. $8 uber to anywhere you want to go. abpopa was charming, staff was present and friendly and helpful, room was cozy and quiet and clean. I slept great. Lots of good food right outside the front doors. Great spot can't wait to go back.
- 3/5
The place is ok. The neighborhood feels a little sketchy at night, but we had no issues. The whole place feels a little DIY, so definitely not fancy, but functional. The beds were comfortable, but the ladders up to the lofts were steep and one had only a single rail. Once you're up there, it's very short, so you need to be ok with getting around on hands and knees. The bathroom is fine, but the door didn't have a latch of any sort. We used the one table to hold our suitcases, since there's no way we were taking them up the ladders. So the main room was for dressing and such. All fine for a family weekend, but you have to be ok with basically no privacy. One concern was that the smoke detector was missing; just wires dangling from the ceiling. All in all, it was fine, and very conveniently located. But definitely not a place you want to hang out.
- 2/5
The lobby was nice and it felt like I made the correct choice. Until I entered the room. The room looked nothing like the pictures I saw. It was super tiny. It didn't even look like it was finished. Lots of raw wood construction with no paint. There were literal ladders you had to climb to get up to the sleeping areas. The sleeping areas that only had about three and a half feet of ceiling space. Very claustrophobic. I would have been better off booking a hostel. Not happy with the experience. I won't be back.
- 5/5
Every thing! Great place great service?
- 4/5
Beautiful view on top floor
- 4/5
Simple person less check in and clean, unique room layout. Overall good for the one night.
- 2/5
Smaller than pictures show but ok for one night.
- 3/5
Location to the Hillcrest neighborhood restaurants is excellent. The room was very spacious. The main issues are nose. Nose from the street, noise from people outside on the sidewalk, noise from the room next to us. There were multiple homeless people who hang out right on the sidewalk by the hotel. These issues would not prevent me from returning.
- 3/5
It looks better on photos. Nothing particular bad, just average.
- 5/5
Location
- 3/5
Highly recommend putting in a barn door or a pocket door to allow privacy. Privacy is important. The idea to keep the eco-vibe is cool but a bathroom DOOR is needed. Key to lobby floor bathroom would help. Limited parking, expensive for not guarantee or reserved spot. Front desk staff was cool & friendly.
- 3.5/5
It was clean and easy to check in and out. The door to the bathroom was cheap and made a lot of noise when closing it.
- 2/5
Parking: There are maybe 10 parking spots for this whole hotel. When we arrived (at 3pm) all spots were already taken. If you can get a spot its $25 for the night but you CANT leave. If you leave and someone takes your spot, oh well. Guess you just wasted $25. There's a huge parking lot next door but it will cost you $100 to park for the night. So we ended up hunting for street parking and found a spot 2 blocks away. This meant we couldn't leave without fear of losing our spot. So we were essentially stuck at the hotel. Luckily there is some stuff to do within walking distance. The Room: The room has tons of windows, which is nice in theory. However, there are no black out shades! So at 7am when the sun comes up the room is flooded with light. Hope you didn't plan on sleeping in. The bed was comfortable but is insanely squeaky. Any move you make is LOUD. But the weirdest thing was the bathroom. There isn't one! It is a toilet and shower in the middle of the room! No walls but just a foldable screen type thing that offers some "privacy". But not really because it doesn't even go up to the ceiling. So whoever you're sharing the room with will hear and smell everything. Talk about uncomfortable!
- 4/5
Location was great! Bathroom setup was too small.
- 5/5
- 4/5
Great location! Very comfortable bed! Plenty of room! Only thing I have to contribute is that the room needs a little TLC. It was clean just needs some fresh paint and a little caulking/repair at shower
- 3/5
Not much of a hotel, more like an Airbnb that was crudely constructed from a studio apartment extremely hot no fans no ventilation for the same price. If not cheaper, you can get a really nice hotel in the surrounding area. I definitely will not be staying there again.
- 3/5
We were really disappointed. The room is like a college apartment with a motor home kitchen and bathroom. The floor to ceiling windows drew us in but unfortunately the thin shades kept the bedrooms bright at night. Also, we heard a lot of noise and full conversations of the homeless people throughout the night. It didn’t feel safe walking around at night with our family either. Positives were proximity of restaurants and Zoo.
- 4/5
Lovely hotel. Highly recommend. Very modern and comfy. However, reserve at the hotel site, not on ho els dot com.
- 3/5
This is nothing as the pictures showed. We didn't even spend the night here. The rooms were "upstairs" but you had to climb a ladder like steps. No doors in "the rooms" just floor mattresses. The restroom wasnt able to lock or even close. Also there is a huge gap between the stairs and restroom. So people walking upstairs can see you using the restroom.
- 5/5
Good location in Hillcrest area
- 5/5
Otherwise very nice place; great cafe downstairs; easy-going check in and out.
- 3/5
Great location, hassle-free electronic check in Layout is bad, (bed is cramped against wall and bathroom is oddly open to the room), clean floors but walls were dirty.
- 3/5
Pleasant

Great location in hillcrest to walk to bars and restaurants
- 1/5
Had to borrow cutlery (spoons) from family to eat The room was very dirty, especially the windows above the bed. Full of accumulated dirt and dust. Also appeared to have mould. The Aircon leaked all over the floor and our new luggage. Bathroom basin over the toilet not very pleasant to use after someone has used the toilet. The walls were very scuffed and dirty.
- 4/5
Not a bad place but rooms might not be convenient for some. It was what we expected, except for the Bedsheets that had tears and warm water issues.
- 3/5
Neighborhood is very sketchy. Hotel was fine
- 5/5
Appreciated the easy and responsive check in. Enjoyed the unique style of the room and it was filled with light and the little kitchenette. The bathroom was an odd layout but clean. Cool little cafe in the downstairs breezeway. Would stay here again.
- 5/5
- 4/5
I had difficulty getting on WiFi but finally managed it. Someone is always available by phone even though there is no desk. The parking is not gated nor does it have cameras so I felt parking was expensive for no security. It was a convenient hotel for me.
- 5/5
Great area for us to stay to walk everywhere.
- 5/5
Huge fan of Abpopa Hillcrest hotel! Great walkable location, unique rooms filled with unique art, easy check-in, nice cafe downstairs, so much too love. I hate cookie cutter hotel chains so Abpopa is definitely my cup of tea!
- 2/5
I found it quite noisy, I could hear people talking and content pounding on floor above! Checkin was easy and staff was helpful!
- 2/5
The photo on the hotel website is way far from real life. It doesn’t look like it at all. Comfort wise is ok. When we checked in I felt rush and no instructions.
- 5/5
Great stay in SD with the most fantastic owners and cafe. Only convenient hotel within the city and within walking spots. I will definitely stay again. Highly recommend.

Spacious room but the bathroom is just a wall you can close, not great for intimacy
- 4/5
This was a convenient and fun place to stay for a couple of days.
- 5/5
Have stayed here multiple times and I love it. The larger rooms toward the top of the building have better views, but an open air bathroom situation. If you want more privacy for the bathroom, I would recommend getting a studio room.
- 5/5
Btw, their penthouse suite is over 1,000 sf of space with stunning 360-degree views of the entire city, kitchen, large seating area, etc. So I will always stay at the amazing Abpopa Hillcrest when I am in San Diego!!
- 3/5
The space looks like it was cheaply built by IKEA. I was a bit disappointed in the quality. It also showed some age. There’s no sofa, just a row of 4 chairs to sit in, and you can’t really relax in the bed because of height constraints and the hike up the ladder. I should have booked a different space in the unit. Maybe that would have swayed me a bit more to the positive.
- 5/5
We travel to San Diego for work several times a year. This was a new hotel for us to try. We loved it. A very cool, modern and hip vibe. A beautiful room. And a wonderful restaurant downstairs was great as well.

Fantastic, quirky hotel with and urban treehouse room vibe! 1 bedroom loft queen, and 1 loft bedroom 2 x twins. Really convenient contactless checkin and room access made everything so easy and fast, especially as I checked in late. Wall of windows and ladders leading up to the sleeping lofts made the experience high-end fun. Exposed wood and DIY flair mixed with high end fixtures - great use of space makes the rooms feel like a playhouse. Patio was big with comfy outdooor couches. Bathroom door doesn't have a lock and doesn’t seal, so best to stay with good friends. Unique and great alternative to a boring hotel room
- 5/5

I love the Abpopa! Great location and very nice modern hotel with great artwork
- 5/5
I love the Abpopa! Love the modern esthetic of the hotel, the original artwork on the walls, fridge and microwave in the room, cafe downstairs with vegan options, the great Hillcrest/Mission Valley location, and reasonable prices.

Conveniently located. The city view was nice waking up to. Property manager was very helpful during check in. The morning coffee bar was the cherry on top.
