Reviews
The hotel is generally well-liked for its historic charm, central location, and friendly staff. However, some guests have expressed concerns about the surrounding area, noise levels, and certain aspects of the rooms.
- Historic charm and elegant decor
- Central location with easy access to local attractions
- Surrounding area can be unsafe and has a significant homeless population
- Noise issues from both inside and outside the hotel
- 4/5
The room was clean but not 5 star clean. There was dust on the desk and one of the shower bottles had the adhesive fail all on its own. Keep in mind thus is a historic hotel....so pretty and cool, but there is no pool which is a little sad for a hotel in Sacramento.
- 5/5
The front desk was great
- 4/5
The hotel itself was lovely .. but when I pulled up outside, there was garbage everywhere that. I one bothered to sweep up.. it really set a bad tone to see no one cared.. the $25 voucher in the wonderful restaurant downstairs was a great bonus! Room was clean and very nice
- 4.5/5
Beautiful historic hotel with many original details preserved This hotel should have bathrobes!
- 4/5
Convenient location. Quiet. Custom.

Everything was excellent

It’s 10 mins walk to Safe Credit Union convention center. There is public parking across the street The bed was uncomfortable. I got a neck pain and my husband back pain the next morning
- 5/5
Front desk was amazing as was the cleaning staff.

A comfortable, beautifully designed and well-run hotel with an excellent restaurant. Only thing that keeps it from being 5 stars is the immediate area around the hotel; if only the city could clean the area up and get some shops and restaurants to stick.
- 5/5
The Citizens Hotel is very conveniently located in an attractive historic building very tastefully upgraded and decorated. Had breakfast in The Grange which was delicious.
- 5/5
Fantastic place
- 5/5
Beautiful establishment, valet parking was easy, in-house restaurant attached, and gorgeous room!
- 5/5
Central location, near the capitol made a walk around interesting and full of interest.
- 5/5
Excellent! Clean, staff was amazing and good food.
- 5/5
It’s was great spot for a 4 day stay. Beds were comfortable, room was quiet and I used the free weights in the gym. Had everything I needed.
- 5/5
Breakfast was good. So.one needs to show the cook what medium is with a steak other than that had no complaints.
- 5/5
Our stay at the Citizen was excellent. It’s a beautiful hotel with historic features. The manager was very helpful, as well as the valet staff. The bathtub is an interesting design. It’s difficult to get into. We enjoyed the restaurant for lunch and brunch. I highly recommend a stay at the Citizen.
- 5/5
A beautifully maintained historic hotel . The staff were helpful , the room was large , the bathtub immense . Clean, calm & the vibe was luxurious
- 5/5
The front desk staff was amazing! Our room wasn’t ready when we arrived and they served us a complimentary wine while we waited. The room was small but so cute! Everything was clean and appeared maintained. Valet was thoughtful and quick, and overall the stay was an absolute delight.
- 5/5
A wonderful stay in every respect. Clean well-appointed room with easy to operate lights, air conditioning and electronics. Very friendly and competent staff, good restaurant and an excellent location!
- 5/5
Quick check-on/out process, great staff, very nice room and excellent valet parking!

Excellent the room was clean and nice
- 3.5/5
It is a beautiful historic building, located at a nice location close to restaurants and the Capital Building. It was difficult to get information during my stay. I had a hard time getting through to front desk via phone. In addition, there were no maps posted anywhere that told you where amenities like the gym were located. The menu on the TV was no help. No maps or info at the front desk, not in the room, nor in the elevator.

Great overnight spot in the city
- 3/5
Great drinks n food, did not like the area n did not feel safe
- 3.5/5
Hotel is nice Downtown Sacramento is a disaster. Downtown Sacramento feels very unsafe and poorly maintained. The park across from the hotel is heavily occupied by people struggling with homelessness and substance use, which makes the area uncomfortable. There’s also loud drag racing at night, adding to the sense of disorder.
- 5/5
The staff was really nice and helpful with my question over the phone about checking in late. I also found the room really comfortable and clean. The whole hotel is really a vibe because it’s clean and luxurious but also is in a historic building. It was a good location as well around different parts of downtown and walkable. I really enjoyed the brunch, and also the complementary water bottles and coffee ! The staff at the front desk were super friendly too and made me feel welcome ! Literally one of the best hotels I’ve ever stayed at.
- 5/5
Clean hotel
- 5/5
The whole vibe at the hotel is great. It's very calm and welcoming. Staff was great. Shout out to Ludwig from the valet staff!

- 5/5
Very enjoyable stay all around
- 5/5
Great bed
- 4/5
Such a wonderful hotel with fantastic staff. The downside is the beds aren't too comfortable (for my back, they were too soft) and I would definitely request a room away from J street and the street noise was very loud but other than these two issues, wonderful stay.
- 3.5/5
Good
- 3/5
Valet drivers were very kind to me during my stay. Staff was also very friendly but not as informative. I had to look around myself and find out or call front desk or go to the front desk myself. But other than that it was a okay stay. Didnt get a chance to stop at the bar or get breakfast
- 4/5
Great and comfy bed
- 5/5
Bar was outstanding. Love it when bartenders are master mixologists...drinks were creative, complex and delicious. The hotel staff were very professional and friendly. The rooms was small but very clean and well appointed.
- 3/5
The hotel is nice, but our room was right on J Street. Ordinarily this would be ideal, nice view of the park (even though it’s predominately unhoused individuals hanging around), but apparently everyone in Sacramento needs to prove they have the loudest sound system in their car and muffler. It was so loud until 3:30/4am. None stop revving and screaming sound systems. It was impossible to sleep Saturday night. Sunday night wasn’t too bad with pretty infrequent recs/music blasts.
- 4.5/5
Excellent customer service, staff was amazing. I had the valet take my car and every time I requested my car, they would bring it out for me right away. The room was beautiful and clean. The room didn’t have trash bags.

- 5/5
it was awesome
- 5/5
The hotel has a nice bar/restaurant. The only negative is having to pay $4 for a bottle of water in the room.
- 5/5
I didn't try the breakfast because it was not complimentary. Everything else about this hotel was awesome! stylish and modern but also nolstalgic. very clean.
- 4/5
Very good
- 4/5
Hotel very comfortable and great staff. breakfast and dinner were just ok. Valet parking was very challenging. Had to circle the block three times before there was a space to pull in for valet.
- 5/5
Landmark building for special occasions. Walls were a bit thin.
- 5/5
Everything was amazing. Staff is great!
- 5/5
Very cool historic building, upscale amenities, including restaurant and bar on site
- 5/5
Always amazing
- 2/5
The hotel is a nice older building conversion. That being said, the neighborhood is awful. Police and security presence everywhere. The park across the street is a homeless encampment, not to mention the building has known hot water issues that the staff is reluctant to speak about. Stay elsewhere.
- 3/5
Stayed here for 4 nights 5 days. The location is really loud with cars, motorcycles, sirens, and people yelling. Was difficult to get a good night sleep. The location is convenient as its a quick walk to DOCO area which is lively. However the general area is quite sketchy and dated. The valet experience was great and the staff were amazing.
- 4/5
Yes but not free
- 5/5
Clean room, lovely staff
- 5/5
Emily my serve was really good as well as Angelica who checked me out
- 5/5

Great place
- 2/5
I travel a lot and I just cannot recommend this hotel. Check in went fairly smoothly. We were in town for the March Madness tournament. Trying to order room service from the room phone took 4 attempts as the phone was old and didn’t work well. Breakfast at the Grange restaurant had terrible service as they were understaffed and unorganized. Coffee arrived without condiments or a spoon. Food order taken, but food never arrived. Other tables who came in after us got their food and were either eating, ate or finished before we finally gave up and walked out. The Valet at checkout took an extremely long time to bring the car. Many homeless people surrounding the hotel…
- 5/5
The staff was exceptional. The room was clean and nice.
- 2/5
Our room on the 5th floor was nice. Unfortunately, there is a club next door and I could feel the vibration from the base in my room until the club closed. Then there was noise from the street until 2am or so. It's crazy that they don't work on getting better noise insulation from the windows. Overall, the hotel was really nice. Just super nosey. We paid 300 for a night out from kids and got no rest due to the club.
- 4/5
I travel to around 20 business conferences a year and have been staying at The Citizen for the past 3 years when I come for the annual association event. It is really one of my top 5 hotels of the year even though I barely slept this year due to the noise outside on the street. I just look at it as the crazy world we live in and I was perched high in an ivory (politically inspired tower). The whole experience is fantastic year after year. A blend of homeless, old world charm and great food and service. I love everything about the experience Sacramento has to offer. The crumbling neighborhoods of failed politics with the comfort of old world style and class with politics front and center reminding me, living with the Haves is so so sweet!!
- 5/5
Best bed of any hotel.
- 3/5
Only complaint was the noise from the nightclub going past 1:00 AM. Kept us up for hours
- 5/5
Immaculate property
- 3/5
The internet was not working for a day so I had to use my hotspot to work which was inconvenient
- 4/5
While I liked a lot of things I will not return.
- 5/5
Nice and comfortable hotel, very nice restaurant. The hotel is within walking distance from the State Capitol.
- 5/5
Clean Room and Hotel, conveniently located.
- 3/5
Not what I expected to a Marriot brand. The facility is dates; homeless all around the property; small rooms, uncomfortable beds and limited amenities. I will not be staying here again..
- 5/5
Lovely
- 5/5
Nice hotel, walkable area
- 5/5
Beautiful interior lobby and room. Easy walk to Capitol and performing arts center as well as convention hall.
- 5/5
Bed super comfy.
- 5/5
Room was spotless. The staff was great
- 4/5
Good staff, clean room, good valet service, very good restaurant. It is hard to find a good place to stay in Sacramento with any quality.
- 5/5
The room was very clean. The staff were very friendly and professional.
- 3/5
In order to watch YouTube, Netflix, or Amazon Prime on the TV, guests are required to log into their personal accounts. Entering login information with the remote control was inconvenient, so I chose not to use the TV. There was bottled water on the desk, priced at $4 per bottle, which felt a bit expensive. When I charged my phone on the bedside table, I noticed that a wall panel had come loose—likely from a previous guest pulling out a cable—and it appeared to have been left unrepaired. While this might not have stood out at a motel, in this setting it gave a slightly careless impression. Overall, the stay was comfortable, but a bit more attention to detail would improve the experience.
- 5/5
Beautiful great staff amazing restaurant/bar
- 5/5
Friendly staff, easy Valet (with unexpected discount), clean room! The Grange Restaurant next door is very nice!!!
- 5/5
Clean room and helpful staff
- 5/5
Great and see
- 1/5
I was charged twice for no reason both the hotel.com website is useless and the hotel itself
- 5/5
Such a vibe.
- 5/5
Beautiful rooms, comfortable beds, staff is so helpful. Love the decor throughout the hotel. 10 out of 10 will stay here again.
- 5/5
Great room
- 5/5
The rooms were spacious and clean. The staff was very nice.
- 4/5
1) There’s very little counter space in the bathroom. 2) The lighting is horrible! I felt like I was putting my makeup on in the dark, both in the bathroom and by the mirror outside the bathroom. It’s such a shame since I love the hotel otherwise but not sure I would stay there again because of this. :(
- 3/5
Check-in staff seemed inexperienced and was not able to connect my reservation to my Marriott loyalty number. Room cleaning service is a hit-or-miss with one time being great and the next barely passable with missing towels and coffee refill. For the price of this hotel, you should expect much more.
- 5/5
Yes, it was fresh and was delicious
- 4/5
The staff were friendly. It was a nice stay.
- 2/5
Valet parked in a no parking street and I got ticket
- 5/5
The room was clean and tidy.
- 3/5
Everything with the room is great but it was dusty in some areas and not sure why refrigerator was in the restroom.
- 4/5
Great establishment. Hotel staff were wonderful. Breakfast was amazing!!!!
- 5/5
Amazing
- 3/5
.
- 5/5
Friendly staff quick valet services
- 5/5
Great location, clean room and great staff
- 3/5
Most of the staff were friendly, but we dealt with one staff member who had a terrible attitude and clearly didn't want to be working. It’s a shame because the hotel building itself is lovely, but the experience needs improvement.
- 5/5
Lovely room, fairly small but normal for downtown . Good service and good valet. Fair few homeless in the area
- 4/5
The room was very clean. Bith tge custodial abd restaurant staff were friendly and helpful
- 4/5
The rooms were clean, great linens and service.
- 4/5
Good location friendly staff clean room. Very cozy so not great for longer than a night
- 5/5
Nostalgic building, great room.
- 5/5
Very nice people and hotel
- 2/5
The hotel charged a fee that was NOT disclosed when I booked the room. “Junk fees” are illegal in CA. I could not cancel because my reservation was non-refundable. Scam alert.
- 5/5
Nice! However the rooftop phot was deceiving. It didn’t state it was a suite.
- 5/5
This is a beautiful hotel. Rooms are nice and comfortable. Restaurant is good and location is great as well.
- 5/5
Nice historic hotel, great service and centrally located. Will definitely book again.
- 5/5
Beautiful and clean hotel. Very well decorated for Christmas and all staff was very friendly. Breakfast was amazing but pricey. It cost more for our breakfast than our dinner at an upscale near by restaurant the previous night. All in all we would stay here again. Surrounding area is sad though. More homeless people than regular pedestrians.
- 5/5
I was able to get into my room early, and the receptionist was very friendly and helpful.
- 5/5
Friendly and attentive staff. Very clean rooms, delicious food, and beautiful decor.
- 5/5
Great stay as always. Love the Citizen!
- 5/5
Great
- 3/5
Anissa at the front desk is not friendly or helpful.
- 5/5
Room was clean and well appointed. Coffee maker was a plus (but I like fresh or UHT creamer in my coffee). Grange was a real plus. I ate dinner there both nights! Staff were efficient and friendly.
- 5/5
Also, love the theme.
- 5/5
Excellent service
- 5/5
Yes
- 5/5
Amazing hotel! Cool vibes and great bar at Grange restaurant beliw
- 5/5
This hotel was phenomenal as usual! The young lady checking me in was sadly very rude. However, the hotel is beautiful and I have already stayed there at least four times and I will return.
- 4/5
Room was comfortable and clean.
- 5/5
We got a flat on the parking lot. The valets changed the tire and sent us to a shop that fixed it in two hours. Smiles ask the way. Great hotel.
- 4/5
The room was very nice and clean. The shower water never got warm however. There was hot water in the sink but never the shower.
- 5/5
Beautiful Hotel.
- 2/5
Staff wasn’t rude but also not friendly either, exactly what you’d expect from mid twenty year old’s, like our arrival and check in was an inconvenience to them as interrupted them on their phones Neither phones inside room worked which was on brand as I tried to call down to front desk as there was NO HOT WATER in the bloody shower Save yourself the aggravation and possibility of being mugged, just grab a hotel at the airport
- 5/5
The room was perfect. Clean, well appointed and check in a simple fast process!
- 4/5
Nice facility, Clean room, nice bar and restaurant.
- 5/5
Beautiful hotel with great service. The room was small but comfortable.
- 4/5
If you’re a Marriott member, hotel will give you a $10 food/drink voucher for your stay.
- 4/5
bar was great loved the ambiance
- 2/5
Shower broke took two hours for someone to come and act like he was fixing it. Broke the next use called day I was leaving at 7:00 am no one came we checked out at 8:30 to catch a train was offered free points or breakfast neither was ideal.
- 5/5
Charming hotel with friendly staff. We’ll be back, for sure.
- 4/5
Hotel was charming but room was small (closet was large and roomy). Area around the hotel was not as nice as we would have expected given the amenities of the hotel itself. Parking fee was high but attendants were very friendly and helpful. Good but limited dining options in the immediate area.
- 5/5
Beautiful hotel.
- 5/5
I adore this hotel - gorgeous old building, lovely rooms, a comfortable bed, great quotes in the elevators (!), excellent free coffee and music in the lobby. Just excellent.
- 5/5
The atmosphere the beautiful artwork, the cleanliness of the rooms everything
- 5/5
The wonderful remodeled put back to its original look in some places, great staff, comfortable beds and nice restaurant with a bar. These are the things I look for in a hotel.
- 5/5
Clean and beautiful room. Great customer service. Swanky fun hotel! Will be back again!
- 3/5
Just okay. Room wasn’t super clean. Very loud.
- 4/5
My wife and I ordered room service and the food was pretty good, but there wasn't really anywhere to eat. It would have been nice to have a coffee table to put the food on while we sat on the couch. Brunch at Grange was fantastic. Area around the hotel is not the nicest, but found a good coffee shop (Temple Roasters) nearby.
- 5/5
Room was clean, food and drinks were great, the hotel was gorgeous and fun to look at!
- 5/5
Love the decor. Great service.
- 4/5
This is always a great stay in Sacramento. Parking staff is amazing.
- 5/5
Overall wonderful stayed
- 5/5
Hope to stay again, Larry
- 4/5
One staff member was very unprofessional didn’t get any sleep the whole stay had people above my room stumping jumping not sure but it wasn’t a pleasant experience.
- 5/5
Clean, friendly great service
- 1/5
Rude sraff
- 4/5
Rough neighborhood, but complaints about that should go to the Governor of California, not the hotel management.
- 5/5
The room was so lovely with an incredible view of the cathedral! The shower was amazing!!! As well as the beds so comfortable!! We can’t wait to come back!!! Thank you so much for the amazing experience!!
- 5/5
The hotel service was great and the restaurant is one of my favorites in Sacramento. Great service and great food
- 5/5
The room was clean and comfortable. The in room dining staff was very quick and hospitable. Front desk staff and valet were great.
- 5/5
Excellent
- 5/5
The only downside was the amount of homeless people in the neighborhood.
- 4/5
Hotel is amazing and with great location. That said, valet is 49 dollars (you read that right) and as sad as it sounds this area of town is taken by homeless people using drugs literally across the street.
- 5/5
Great
- 5/5
Nice, clean, friendly staff close to everything and places I needed to be great hotel.
- 5/5
Was great!
- 4/5
beautiful hotel, great location, nice staff. need gluten free food items in restaurant and snacks.also when asked for hot tea i was treated like a martian.
- 4/5
Very comfortable beds, great food & maid service. no dresser & very loud ! Thin walls.
- 5/5
It was nice
- 5/5
This place was awesome! The staff was so friendly and helpful. It was clean, and we enjoyed being able to walk to Old Sacramento from there.
- 5/5
Be careful of syringes and razor blades
- 4/5
Nice hotel and friendly staff. Tiny rooms - not for families. Conveniently located downtown but lots of homeless.
- 5/5
The hotel is beautiful and just what I expected for a historical hotel. The only thing that they missed was putting in triple pane windows so you can’t hear everything that is going on downtown. We heard loud music from a nearby event that went on until 2am. It was like we were there the noise was so loud. That was our only con. Everything else was a pro.
- 5/5
You would think at the price they’re renting these rooms that they would at least offer valet or validated parking garage. They should really ask the city to keep a quarter mile radius in each direction of their property clear of homeless people. The walk from the property to the available garage was a bit sketchy. The property itself, amenities & restaurant inside the hotel were amazing! Rooms were clean and the character of the brick building were absolutely stunning.
- 5/5
Great burger and nice staff! Valets were super helpful, neighborhood a little rough -- walking distance to great restaurants and Golden One Arena!
- 4/5
The hotel staff were friendly and very efficient. The rooms were nice and clean, with a comfortable bed. Valet staff was also fairly efficient but the entire valet setup is a mess due to lack of parking and traffic. We had to double park along with two other cars in order to check in. I might have preferred self parking but it was really unclear on how parking worked. Valet was $49 which also seemed pretty expensive. A parking fee of 20% the room rate just sounds crazy to me.
- 5/5
Staff very courteous and friendly. Very nice hotel
- 3/5
the room was clean but the problem was the noise, the room was right next to a conference room or some kind of banquet, so couldn't sleep past 6-7am any of the days at my stay which made it very uncomfortable when trying to get any rest
- 5/5
Very nice hotel, came here for the Jonas brothers concert at golden 1 center super close walking distance
- 4/5
Wi-Fi, not sure why, most hotels offer free Wi-Fi. Across the street from Cesar Chavez park, festival weekend in that park so loud, loud music for hours, the stuff on my nightstand was vibrating. The bed was really comfortable and good location for walking to sights. I think next time I’d pay a little more and stay somewhere else. Staff were all wonderful.
- 1/5
The hotel was beautiful but the stay was miserable. Our room was right by the elevator and came with an incredible amount of noise. After a sleepless night we were also woken up by the cleaners at 8:30 Sunday morning. Then I receive a bill for $50 for valet parking which is outrageous. I will never stay nor recommend this hotel.
- 4/5
Beautiful hotel. Staff friendly. Valet was a little hectic during rush times. Rooms were clean. The water temps had a mind of their own while showering. Overall a nice stay in a beautiful historic hotel.
- 2/5
The room was tiny. I don’t know how they can say this is 300 sq ft. The bedroom is 10 x 10 at best. It’s like sleeping in a matchbox. And window view was of the side of the building. The rest of the stay was very good, clean and quiet. But I wouldn’t have booked here if I’d known the rooms were so small. (And I was meant to get a VIP room upgrade.)
- 5/5
Citizen is my go-to hotel in Sacramento. It’s always a great stay. They even held my room for me when flight was delayed!
- 4/5
It was a really nice hotel
- 4/5
The hotel was great for our overnight stay with our children. Restaurant in the hotel was good too! The surrounding area was a little run down, but the hotel is very well kept and clean
- 5/5
Great hotel for reasonable rates
- 5/5
We were in town for a concert and stayed at the Citizen and glad we did. Found a great restaurant across the street and were able to walk to and back from the concert safely.
- 5/5
I really enjoyed my stay.
- 5/5
The Citizens never disappoints. Always a 5 star stay.
- 5/5
Excellent hotel! I would definitely stay there again.
- 5/5
Great location. Classy 100 year old vintage on display. Small but well appointed rooms. Lobby bar/restaurant lively draw with excellent food and drink. Helpful and friendly staff. Fascinating historical art everywhere.
- 5/5
Walking distance to Golden1 center and many restaurants. Valet only, not a problem. Rooms were very nice, but was nice and comfy. Bathroom was huge.
- 5/5
Great property - great service and staff
- 5/5
Valet, Front Desk, Housekeeping all amazing and kind.
- 5/5
Everything was nice including the staff and the valet parking was great made everything easy and the room was great, bed was very comfortable. Would definitely recommend to anyone looking for a good place to stay.
- 5/5
incredible. the doormen were kind and helpful, the rest of the staff was a delight as well. thank you kindly for the incredible stay. we will be back!
- 4/5
Hotel and staff were excellent. However, there was a music event held next door (in an event tent) that was very loud. Food at the restaurant was good. Parking was a little bit of a challenge. Would stay here again.
- 5/5
Love this area & the building. Kind friendly staff & lot of places to go to in walking distance!
- 5/5
it was a good experience all the way around.
- 5/5
Some quality options for appetizers or dinning on the first floor. Staff members were courteous and friendly. Feels like a cohesive effort is being made by all.
- 4/5
Rooms are clean but very small , the bathroom was clean but looked both like the walk to m showers shown on the website and the reason I book the room. Bed and pillows were very comfortable and heating and AC kept the room cool and comfy.
- 5/5
Beautiful and excellent, helpful staff. Highly recommend
- 5/5
I stay here every time I’m in downtown Sacramento. Hotel is clean, staff is friendly, beds are comfortable and I love the look!
- 5/5
Everything is awesome! I’m just tired of the new fad where people don’t have mufflers on their vehicles these days to be a nuisance. The Grange had one of the best New York strips I’ve had in a while. The bread that they get daily from Oakland is awesome! The gelato was really good. I really loved the style of the hotel and the ambience.
- 5/5
Great
- 5/5
We love staying here!
- 5/5
Very hip chill place to stay and the food is great !
- 2/5
Customer service was not consistent between guest. Everybody had a different experience with the party I was with.
- 3/5
Disappointing, under construction, location is not very good, lots of retail closed, park across the street is loaded with homeless most under the influence of substance. Area does not seem safe. Curtains badly stained, toilet had an issue...I fixed. Noisy location, restaurant however was very good! Staff was good as well. Hotel is a mixed bag...nice place with some minor maintenance issues. Location is the main issue and room rates should not be this high consider that location.
- 3/5
The hotel itself was good, large rooms and bathrooms and my room was very clean. However another member of our party had some unidentifiable white flaky substance on their sheets. It is my understanding that it was taken care of promptly by the staff. The breakfast was delicious and was complimentary with a promotion. The one negative was that the neighborhood didn’t feel very safe. We heard loud screaming early in the morning and police sirens in the middle of the night.

Great hotel, wonderful staff. Nice rooms and bathrooms. Quiet when the window was closed (I love to have a window that opens). Crisp, clean beds and nice pillows!

Traveling iwth dog and staying for only one night. This isn't the most convenient place. It is truly a dowtown type hotel, with no parking, pull up valet, lobby, etc. Not really a convenient place for a pet. Yet they allow them. Anyway, the valet and security guards were very nice. I saw why the need for 24 hour security, as the park across the street, which would have been a great place to walk my dog, was filled to the brim with homeless. Not nice homelsss, but the crazy kind that scream all night long. The room itself was perfectly fine. It was clean and spacious. The only complaint was that the toilet was one of those old round ones in which men cannot sit on without peeing on our feet. It is ridiculous that they don't replace those as the space would allow it easily. The hotel and staff were just fine, but for the price I ultimately paid, I would rather have been in a different area. This area sucked. Homeless were a problem, but even worse was the fact that on the streets below were a number of night clubs that balsted bass up until 2 am. I was pretty pissed. Stay away from this area.

Beautiful old style hotel

Great stay near the stadium. Comfy bed, clean room, and good restaurant (Grange).

To make this simple we were looking forward to the rooftop dining as advertised from Hotels.com which the hotel front desk knew about and said that's how they get you. Had me thinking if the hotel knew about it then why is nothing being done about it. Will also make a review to this hotel for knowing and not correcting. I want a refund from the false advertisement.

Conveniently located near the Golden 1 Center and many nice dining locations. Staff was very friendly and extremely helpful. Great customer service.

Loved staying at this hotel. The staff were very friendly, and I would absolutely book a stay here again.

Close to golden 1 center. Beautiful hotel inside and out.

It was quite sad, and we couldn’t believe how dumpy it was outside of a nice hotel. The second we stepped foot back in hotel, we felt safe, but thank god we packed our ear plugs!!! Super loud where we kept checking to see if the windows were open… They were closed Anyway, I don’t blame this hotel for the mess around the hotel, I blame Sacramento! Not really sure I even wanna stop there again until it has cleaned up. And I am a Californian…!

The Citizen Hotel in Sacramento offers a charming blend of historic elegance and modern comfort, with excellent service and a prime downtown location.
- 4/5
Great location, better price than some in the area, but im also always surprised what you get these days for what you spend, not much.
- 1/5
I was placed in a room near/facing the road and had to listen to plaid music, people yelling, vehicles raving their engines all night long. I should have been made aware of this situation prior to booking as I would have booked somewhere else. I got very little rest and the front/street facing rooms of the hotel are not suitable for hotel rooms yet this hotel still sells these rooms to people expecting to get rest. This is simply unethical and unacceptable

enjoyed our stay and food from room service was top notch

I had a wonderful stay at The Citizen. I loved the decor and the warm welcome I received. My room had a direct view of the park with the Capitol beyond. The walk to the Convention Center was easy.

Enjoyed!

Convenience and price

We liked our stay there at the citizen. There was nothing really fancy about it. I thought we have room service for our food and the food was OK. There was nothing relief. Great about it that we could go back and say hey this was really delicious and I know it’s a room service but come on. It’s the citizen. I will say the night service for room service did us a solid because we weren’t allowed to get bar foods but they actually let us order them for the food night service that was nice of them. Other than that, the riffraff out front at the park kept us awake all night and the air-conditioning kept going off and on so the room was hot and then it would get cold so it was kind of weird, but it was just OK for that amount of price I wouldn’t stay again. The staff was kind of eh. Some of them were standoffish.

Very cool vibe. Very lively and the restaurant/bar was excellent.

Excellent location & staff. Friendly Customer service excelled!
- 5/5
Great location with professional staff. It can get a bit loud at night as the area is busy but not too late into the night. The hotel restaurant is a good option for breakfast. Overall, a solid choice in a walkable area.

The place was immaculate, however it was really loud. I coukdny sleep until 2 am. I wish they advise when they had a party so i would plan accordingly.

Liked the charm and uniqueness of the hotel but the walls are thin and can hear everything. Had noisy and loud neighbors. Room was tight as it had a large Pilar next to bed. We thought we had paid for a larger room. Pilar was a major obstruction!!!! Was greatly dissappointed!

Check in was a smooth process & front desk agent was so helpful! She went above and beyond to help set me up with a nice room, accommodated my request to look up my Marriott rewards # and granted a late check out since I was running a 5k race in the morning. That extra hour was greatly appreciated and one of the main reasons why I prefer Marriott properties. I love staying at Citizen and look forward to future trips. Thank you!

It was very noisy, you could hear everything from the windows, there were also two dogs in the next room and they barked all night, as a result, instead of sleeping after a hard road, the whole family did not get enough sleep.... I went to the hotel staff several times, they said they couldn't get through to the dog room.…

Small criticisms: Wi-Fi was glitchy and valet parking took a while to bring our car.
- 4/5
Just basic
- 4/5
The room had high ceilings and relaxing, classic decor. The main problem was the park across the street with a demonstration going on. Shabby buildings adjacent to us. On top of it a DJ/ band concert that went on from 7-11ish? Right across from our windows. Could not sleep. One positive, if you want to see the capitol building(which is beautiful inside), it’s only about 2 blocks away. Forgot to get a pic of the bathroom which was amazing!!! Sorry my pics aren’t great. Didn’t think this through ahead of time.

Hotel was great, parking was a challenge only valet available.

Being an old hotel, our room and bathroom were small, but OK overall. Three issues made our stay just average in satisfaction though. The chain inside the toilet tank came off upon flushing it so I had to fix it in the morning because it wouldn't flush. Doing toilet repairs shouldn't be needed! Our TV worked the night of check-in, but not the next morning. It just kept looping constant 15 second hotel commercials and wouldn't respond to any remote signals, so it was unwatchable. Then upon checkout, we had brunch reservations that we ended up being 15 minutes late for because of the poor valet service. We followed their directions about notifying them at least 15 minutes ahead of time before we went down. As we kept waiting at the front of the hotel for our car, we finally asked about our car and they had no record of their system getting our text notification, so they had to add us on the list at that point. They park the cars a few blocks away, which takes a lot of time to retrieve your car, even when you are next. We had to wait another 15-20 minutes for our car to arrive, which was very annoying, especially since we had people waiting for us at the restaurant we were having brunch at. For the $49/night parking fee, one would think their system would work better. Next time we are staying in Sacramento, we will choose a different hotel.

I loved staying at the Citizen! The staff was so friendly and service was above & beyond across the board. They welcomed my dog, as well. The food at the Grange restaurant is so delicious, so much better than I expected. I had a great time hanging solo at the bar, too

Rooms are good looking and quite comfortable. The food at the co-located Grange Restaurant is exceptional. We live in San Francisco, and we were blown away with the quality and service. Staff at both the hotel and restaurant were warm and efficient.

an employee came into my room while i was wasnt dressed, she didnt bother to knock before entering. she just assumed i wasnt there , she hurried & exited. it was really embarrassing for me, i feel violated. no one should have to go through this.
