The lady when I checked in was nice The manager and security guard were very rude and refuse to let me bring my mother the complementary breakfast back to the room because she doesn’t walk well she is elder. They refused to give her any extra pillows for her swollen feet. After she practically begged them They made us pay an extra $30 for extending our stay check-in fee. But we already checked in very rude demanded clean room befor extending our stay and charging us fee that doesn’t exist ..wouldn’t recommend. very rude Spanish desk, worker, in colored security guard were the ones who charged us this extra fee on top of the $90 for the room on a Wednesday which it says clearly on their website that’s only 80 so 90+ the 30 you get it nasty people

Had a comfortable stay at Gateway Hotel. The rooms were clean, and the staff was courteous and helpful. The location was convenient, and the overall experience was pleasant, everything was good. Thank you for the hospitality!

The staff was incredibly helpful and kind. My 5 night stay was relaxing and comfortable. Food was great, pool was great, the hotel “store” had a great selection at unbelievably good prices! Can’t wait to go back!

For the price, this hotel is fine. However, don't be fooled by a rating over 7/10. It is closer to a 5/10. It was clean and the staff friendly but the maintenance is terrible. The last paint job was sloppy, the chairs in the rooms have stains on them, etc. It's essentially just showing its age. The price was good but don't get your hopes up on overall quality.

Absolutley nothing. I would never suggest booking here. We arrived to the room to find DEAD bugs on the blanket, hair all over. The bedding looks like it wasn’t washed in weeks. Smelled like funky body odor. The pillows have been stomped on by somebody’s boot. The bathroom has gunk encrusted on the wall. Behind the toilet it looks like somebody sprayed the wall if you get what I mean. I attached pictures so you can decide if this place is worth $100 a night. Worst customer service, the clerk at the front lied in my face and said they never received a cancellation request which is a lie. They lied and played games with me and wasted my time for 2 hours after we just wanted to find a clean place to sleep for the night. This is quite possibly the nastiest hotel I have ever stayed at. I will be contacting the health department. The owner better not even reply to my review on here because you did me so dirty and don’t give a damn about a customers experience. We tried to work with them so we gave their new room a try. Worse than the first. 10x more bugs, the MAIN light doesn’t even work

i have stayed at days inn hollins quite a few times and always enjoy my stay. hotel is always clean, bathrooms have been remodeled lots of fresh paint is obvious. staff is very helpful and friendly. free breakfast is good and has some hot items. my favorite place to stay in the roanoke, va area and the price is more than reasonable.

The hotel was basic but clean. The staff were nice and the market was fully stocked with anything you could think of. The rooms were clean but a bit dated. They did have breakfast but we did not eat

The hotel is pretty rundown and in need of an upgrade. The desk chair in my room was filthy and stained. The shower continued to drip and could not be shut off properly. Whoever painted the place didn’t stay in between the lines too well either, especially on the room doors. Hotel conditions aside, breakfast was good and the staff was friendly.

I do not suggest this hotel. We chose it for the price since the others in the area wanted $300+ (high for a quick stay to break up a drive) and per usual, you get what you pay for. It was dirty, run-down, odd characters hung around the lobby, we turned on the water in the sink and the pipe below burst out water all over the carpet. Look for newer hotels if staying in the Roanoke, VA area.

Parking felt safe only in the front of the property…did not feel safe at all in the back of the property…area around rooms looked seedy…with some seedy looking characters out and about empty beer bottles outside room next to us…rooms inside clean…breakfast fair, choices minimal…night managers nice…woman nite clerk abrupt and not very helpful…stuck us in a corner room first night at this property…had people in 2 rooms next to my husband and I while many other rooms empty…TV blasting in room next door to us…our second overnight stay at this place, we asked to be inside the hotel not in the back outside strip of rooms…we were again placed in the seedy looking area, back strip of rooms, looks like a row of abandoned motel rooms… night manager nice and moved us but charged us an additional $40..we asked about an additional charge, we were told there was no extra charge…waiting to see my bill because I called about the additional charge…was told they removed the extra charge….will never, ever stay at a Days Inn again anywhere when we travel!!!

People were having sex next-door all night smoking dope thought barking TV didn’t work. It kept going on and off all night finally at 12 AM. We got up and we checked out we only stayed there a matter of not even five hours. It was awful awful experience.

The property is clean and pretty on the inside and there was evidence that the grounds had newly planted decorative flowers. Healthy and spring welcoming. The breakfast included eggs and sausage, so those who tend to be more carnivore could be satisfied. The bed was amazing. It is tricky to get into the parking lot, but it is safe. We were staying in a room on the back, and felt safe. I'd stay here again.

The staff was great, we were able to park in an area where they could keep an eye on our vehicles, we were able to have a small cookout away from the building near our vehicles. We were bummed the pool was not available. Very clean! Would stay there again!

The good; The breakfast was by far the best thing about this place. The attendant was there to refill at the ready. No fruit though. But the fresh waffles were delicious as well as the sausages. We were able to park right in front of our room.The room was clean. The towels were plentiful and clean. The bad; the bathroom door is falling off the hinge, Handle is broken..couldn’t even close it.

The front desk was super helpful and friendly when we checked in. Lobby area was nice, continental breakfast was basic but fine. Our room was around back, outside area there was trash around property. Our room had carpet which definitely wasn’t clean. There was cloth chair that was gross in the room . The bathroom floor had bugs and there were cobwebs in the room corners. Upside, tub, sink and toilet were clean as well as the bedsheets and towels.

There seemed to be a lack of handicap parking spots near the entrance. The luggage carts were not as easy to manage as I might have hoped. The exit onto the main road did not seem to be well planned. You had to deal with traffic coming off right at the freeway exit. It was easy and convenient to extend my stay.

Location is convenient. Bed was decent. Staff very nice. Room seemed out dated and tv was not working well. Breakfast should be until at least 10 am.

Don’t let their pictures to fool you. The place is beat-up and just deeply depressing. I had one night reservation but couldn’t make myself to stay there. Booked next door Country Inn & Suites. Luckily for me they had a room available. It was 20$ more but much better. P.S. Besides deceiving pictures on Days Inn profile, they also lied that I used a bathroom in that room before informing them that I am not going to stay and returning a key. No refund, of course.

Just an overnight stay as we landed at midnight. Room was clean and grounds tidy. Front desk staff kind and considerate. This is our go-to spot and we love it.

Quiet, breakfast was still hot at 9:15 am, water pressure for shower was GREAT, which is not always the case. The breakfast bar host was not friendly, the selection was picked over by 9:15am. Will go earlier next trip to see if breakfast choices are better. Food was good, just limited.

The hotel is attached to a billiards night club. There is a ton of alcohol for sale in the hotel lobby and even vapes are available at the counter. The hallway upstairs smelled extremely bad as did my room. I did not feel safe staying here. I immediately went downstairs and told them I would not be staying and checked out and went to a different hotel. They did not give me a refund nor do they check me out officially until 8:00 the next morning. I will never make another reservation at a Days Inn.

The building was really run down. We had peeling paint in our bath tub. Breakfast was horrible and you’re forced to eat in the dining area. We like to take food back to room to eat with our 3 year old.

The Day’s Inn was a nice find for an economical hotel. It was clean, comfortable and quiet. We were satisfied with our stay. The Inn was doing renovations to keep attractive. Easy on and off from I81. There was really nothing we did not like.

I’m low maintenance and used to basic hotels. But this one’s ROUGH. Run down hotel off the interstate. Rooms smell awful (mix of Febreexe and cigs), bedding had burn holes, TV didn’t work, and shower was so stained up I skipped showeimg. The front staff was helpful moving me to a less noisy room. Would not recommend a stay here.

Cigarette burns on my bed sheets. Tried to access the “gym” but the door would not work. Front desk said that the door was just fixed last week. Would not attempt to open for me.

Well to start with this is not a hotel, its a motel. The kind that make you question which scary movie you've just entered into. Dated with a capital D. The place is pet friendly but thats because it already smells like cat piss. The beds were clean and surprisingly comfortable. The front desk staff were very friendly. Breakfast was included but most things were not edible. The bananas were so green you couldn't peel them. Kitchen staff overbearing and tried to correct us when making our food. Exterior of the building was sketchy especially for those arriving at night. Price was good $98 canadian, $15 per pet. Guess you get what you pay for. Lesson learned.

This is a clean place to stay for a night on the road. I reported a safety issue to the management regarding a loose insert in the tub that was installed during the renovation. Other than that the room was fine.

What a terrible experience! I've stayed at Days Inn (and am a member) and this property and management are an embarrassment and detriment to their brand. The worst was with the manager. He was insulting, condescending, rude, and kept interrupting when I complained. When checked in, the night manager told me my key may not work !! and gave me his cell number to come help me if it didn't! The property is in disrepair with stains on the rug and linens. The room STANK.The television didn't get major networks and kept pixelating.The walls are so thin that I was awake between 2:00 and 2:30 am. listening to the discussion in the room next to mine and awoken again at 6:00 a.m. When the key wouldn't re-open my door in the morning, I went to the front desk and was told that because I had checked out (online with a departure time one hour later), my key had been deactivated. After he supposedly reactivated it, it still wouldn't work. The manager started berating me and accused me of "not knowing how to operate the door." When he stalked off to open it with a master key, he even went the wrong way to the room. When I was leaving, I stopped by the front desk to take a picture, ask his name, and the manager's name. He said he was the manager and he wouldn't give me his name. He even ducked under the counter as I was take a picture! He kept yelling insults, said he was calling the police, and filming me.This property and management is nothing but a nightmare. (photos available)

First room we got was on backside of building for non smoking and the smell of marijuana was so strong not to mention the car that looked like it had been there for a year. We got moved to other side that was the smoking area rooms. Not sure why smoking pot was ok. Bare bones room for a quick sleep but that’s about it, parking on backside of building left us uncomfortable with all our stuff in the car also

Hotel is older, it’s in a creepy area the bar attached to it is all boarded up. Our room was handicap accessible, and you could tell that it was just done. Bars were stuck up on wood. Bed was comfortable. Breakfast choices were good.

It was good. Only issues were only 1 small bar of soap for shower and sink. Plus door to toilet/shower couldn't be closed all the way.

Got this last minute to extend my stay in Roanoke. I already had a room at another hotel but last minute they were too expensive. I probably shouldn’t be writing this from the comfort of my new place because it’s just way nicer. When you pull into the Days Inn you wonder if it’s even open. Only 5 cars were in the parking lot. I’m not sure that it ever got more people in after that. Rooms were old and poorly repaired. It screamed budget hotel. On the plus side, it did seem clean. The breakfast was fine. I had a coffee maker in my room but never saw any coffee to brew which I really could have used. But sitting in the comfort of my new room, Days Inn is pretty rough.

Staff was very friendly and accomidating with my needs for the trip and early check in. Will stay again duirng football season for sure!

My son in law found a bed bug crawling on his shorts while we were traveling in the car after we stayed at this hotel.

My stay at Days Inn was terrible. The beds were full size, not queens as I had assumed, and no rollaways were available. The first room I was given had soaked carpet and walls with noticeable water damage, so I had to switch rooms. The entire hotel smells musty and old. On the plus side, they did offer plenty of snack choices, and breakfast, although advertised as “warm,” was really just frozen scrambled eggs and sausage patties. At least there were some protein options. Overall, I would not stay here again. Pay the few extra dollars and choose a nicer hotel.

The room had a musty-cleaning solution smell. It helped running the air conditioner. We skipped breakfast in lieu of a small local estabishment. Overall.. it was passable.

We booked on hotels.com because it showed a 7/10 rating. The rooms were not cleaned well, the bathroom sink was clogged in room 214. And the AC is completely off, which took almost an hour to start cooling the room. Carpet was sticky in spots and needs to be replaced. Bathtub was chipped up in the base of it. Toilet flushing was very slow and almost overflowing each time. The curtains in Room 212 looked like someone cut them in a few spots. No elevator and tricky steps to the second floor for older people carrying bags.

Easy access off the highway. Have to drive 10 minutes to get to the closest city for food. Price is fair enough.

The room was clean and the TV worked without problems. The tub had seen better days but it was clean. Even the counter top in the bathroom was chipped. There was a decent choice of food for breakfast. For a one night stop it was close to the highway and convenient for an early start.

The staff in the lobby were very nice, the room was deplorable. It was dirty, there were bugs on the floor and in the bathroom, mold on the outside of the refrigerator, bug wings on and under the sheets of the beds, terrible odor. There was no way to stay, we had to leave and find another place to stay.

Ceck in was quick, and that is important when you arrive later. Place was clean and beds actually impressed us with their marshmallowly it was like laying in a cloud made out of marshmallow.

The fee for a single small pet was $75 for one night… the same price as 6 nights. We have stayed at candlewoods multiple times and have NEVER paid $75 for a single night. Generally, $25 or less is charged. Emotional support pet (under 10 lbs) and service animals should not fall into a general pet category. Expedia should disclose the exorbitant fee PRIOR to the booking process. I will not use Candlewood again. Additionally, the front desk clerk was not willing to listen or view the online policy that states typically, a reasonable daily fee is charged. A $202 night stay costs almost $280…not a great deal.

Stay was great for the price. Older building, but didn’t entirely feel like a gross motel. The room smelled a little like mildew and the carpet was wet from the condensation of the air conditioner, shower and drain were a little rusty, but otherwise a great place to stay on a budget. Sheets were clean and beds were comfy. Service was great even at 3am.

The room itself was very dirty. Carpets, blankets, and furniture were all stained. There were tumbleweeds of dark hair in the corners of the bathroom and the shower curtain had a blood stain on it. Not the motel’s fault, but my wife and child were leered at during unloading by a group of men drinking outside their rooms on the second floor. One of the men followed her to our room and knocked on our door to talk to her, leaving once he saw me. Obviously we won’t stay here again, and I wouldn’t recommend it for families. With dogs the room was only about $60 cheaper than the Hampton Inn with their $75 dog fee.

Check in was great and service was nice but it stopped there, this place is in major need of a renovation. Our room had a carpet from the 70’s I swear. And the loony looked the same construction wise. Our furniture was smelly and stained. The sink would not drain well at all and the toilet barely flushed. The shower and tub looked so old and worn out it was not appealing. The advertised pic of the room was very misleading. And to top it off house keeping forgot to clean out the little fridge and it had old roaster chicken sitting in it. Will never come back to this location.

Right off 81 clean and quiet

It was hot and smelled like cigarette smoke upon arrival. It’s a non-smoking hotel. The hallways were also hot and also my room. I had to turn the A/C on. The curtains were tattered, sink missing the stopper, the tub was in poor condition on the bottom and couldn’t take a shower because there was no shower curtain. The pool looked clean. Breakfast served its purpose. Bed was clean and comfortable.

The property was ok for a night. The bathroom floor was sticky and there was food debris on the carpet. The restaurant was closed and it looked like someone tried to break into it, which didn’t make you feel safe. Our room keys stopped working well before check out. It was ok for a pit stop on our trip but I wouldn't book this hotel again.

This place was way over priced for what they are offering. Items were falling off the walls, bathtub had paint peeling to hide rust and holes in the walls.

The hotel was run down. Carpets were dirty and we found bugs in bathroom and in living room. We did not shower, bring any luggage in room and slept on top of comforter. I slept horribly. We were exhausted after driving 8hrs. Hotel did accept a small dog for a fee. We put down a pad in case it needed to go to the bathroom in middle of night. We left at first light. Coffee pot did not work. Not in best area either. Never will return or stay at another Dsys Inn.

Affordable and convenient from the highway.

The photo must have been taken 10 years ago. It was dark, dingy, smelly and had an unsafe feel to it. (broken glass, run down and appeared to have some permanent residents) When we arrived, there were cops dealing with something in an adjacent room. We walked into our room, turned around and walked out. We turned in our keys and could not get a refund, but we went down the street and checked into a Country Inn and Suites. It was very nice. Too bad that we had to pay for a room that we did not use, but I would have slept in the rental car if nothing else had been available.

Upon arrival place looks like a dump. My first room someone was smoking in it. It stunk. My next room was better. Toilet rocked. Remote for tv was screwed up. Shower head too low. Cigarette butts laying in parking lot in front of rooms. The only thing good about the room was the bed was comfortable and had clean sheets. I can’t believe the hotel had a 7 rating. Don’t worry I won’t be back and stay in another Days inn ever.

The price which we noticed the day we checked in was 113 in the am afternoon 123 I paid 164. not likely to stay here again for this reason.

Charged me an extra $103 for the room and won't explain why. We did not damage anything.

I would have rated this hotel 3 stars, or OK, but it was comfortable and clean. Now I see why "clean" is the most-liked aspect of this hotel; it is a little worn. The breakfast is adequate, as are the rooms. But I needed a budget hotel, and this was a safe, quiet, reasonably comfortable place to overnight for a graduation.

DO NOT BOOK HERE!! As soon as we parked and walked in the lobby we were uncomfortable. The outside of this hotel and the lobby were filthy and unwelcoming. We waited at the front counter only for the clerk to completely ignore us. He walked away several times and even asked someone in line BEHIND us if he could help them. At that point we decided we weren't going to even stay there, the clerk could not care less and offered no help. For the price I paid ($232) this is completely unacceptable, this "Hotel" should be labeled as a Motel or better yet, shut down all together. I will NEVER book a Days Inn again, absolutely terrible customer service.

Deserted Area, no activity and felt unsafe...As soon as i pulled up to the property i wouldnt get out of my vehicle. It didnt have guest vehicles in the parking lot and the adjoining restaurant was abandoned. This place was not welcoming. Expedia would not credit me for another hotel. The agent at expedia hung up on me when i asked if they could give me a credit toward another hotel...My future reservations will never be a DAYS INN or through expedia due to my experience.

You get what you pay for, decent place to lay exhausted head for night. Very noisy as door opened up to outside and right on 81, door didnt seem very secure, ac unit noisy, not super clean and dated.

Convenient

One of my worst experiences ever. Drunken people in the room next door kept us up the entire night. Staff and security were virtually no help. We were told that a request would for a refund would be submitted. No refund, apology or communication from the hotel. I filed a complaint and received a form letter reply that only inserted my name and the date of stay without even referencing the issue. We have stayed there many times in the past - but never again.

TV didnt work very well. Only had 1 channel, and the light switch for the area outside of the bathroom with a mirror and sink did not work. You have to flip it multiple times to get it to finally turn on.

From the moment i walked into welcome area and desk as well down hallway and the roombthe overwhelming mustiness and smell so offensive i could not stay...they said it was non-refundable because it was thru you but chase travel had my back...we are not high falutin type of people but i don't really understand how they are still in operation...when i drove into lot not one car in that large parking lot i thought they weren't open...now i know why! When i mentioned to others in the community later about my experience they understood and said the place has a bad reputation in the area
