Reviews
The Mission Inn Hotel & Spa is a historic and beautiful property with unique architecture and ambiance, offering a resort-like experience. However, the hotel has mixed reviews regarding service, maintenance, and room quality.
- Historic and beautiful property with unique architecture
- Resort-like experience with amenities such as a pool and spa
- Inconsistent service quality, with some guests experiencing poor customer service
- Maintenance issues in rooms, including air conditioning, plumbing, and cleanliness
- 3/5
Additionally, I requested slippers twice and never received them. While the property is lovely for a day visit, I personally wouldn’t recommend paying the premium price to stay overnight until some of these issues are addressed.

So worth the money! Get like I was in Europe. Has everything you need and staff are amazing! Will for sure go back.

Incredibly interesting property, so unique and fun. Great accommodating staff, super friendly all around. Highly recommend!

Some touches from the past were missing. But overall nice stay.

A great property that takes you back in time. My room was nice but the walls in bathroom could use some maintenance. I really liked cocktails in the Presidential Lounge.

Beautiful property, I definitely will be back. The only regret I have is not staying longer! the food, the environment, the pool is so luxury. the staff were friendly. Beautiful surroundings everywhere.

I always come back here! Heated pool. Spa. The staff are so nice! Rooms are beautiful. Beds amazing. Food and service outstanding. No complaints. Every. Time.

The Mission Inn holds up to its reputation. Such a beautiful hotel with lots to see and helpful staff. The restaurants here are incredible as well. My fiancée and I stayed here for the weekend we got married, glad we chose here!

Had a really nice time for my first stay at this historic hotel. I made sure to save enough money so I can experience all the hotel had to offer. Every restaurant. The Afternoon Tea and Sunday Brunch Buffet experiences. A tour that included the catacombs. Room Service. Valet with 24hr in/out privileges. Drinks from both lounges. Irvine & Roberts wine. Was not disappointed or underwhelmed in any manner. The foods were exquisite and the staff were awesome. Frank Miller’s mission was to make each guest feel like they were home when they stayed at the hotel. And that is exactly what it felt like. The room was so comfortable, with amenities for every need as a guest. And I liked the fact that my room’s design was the only one in the whole hotel - since all 200+ rooms have their own look! Added to the personal experience. 9/10

The history and decor are exquisitely beautiful. The restaurants food is delicious. The grounds are colorful, lush and well maintained. The entire property is an experience. Highly recommend The Mission Inn!

I didnt have Wifi Access during my entire stay and when I called the front desk multiple times there was never any answer. And when there was an answer I would wait for an extended time to get a live person.

Absolutely beautiful hotel!!
- 5/5
Nice room, big and clean. The only issue was the loud A/C that kicked on all night and woke us up every time.
- 5/5
Love the rooms and the hotel..
- 5/5
Staycation with family. We had a wonderful room overlooking the patio area. There is so much to explore while staying at the Inn. Great pool!!! The staff is so friendly and five-star hospitality across the board from check in to the valet. Extra thanks to the Valet Team for assisting my mom with a lost item. They took the time to check lost and found and found the item that had been misplaced. The only thing that was lacking was the water temperature in the shower was on the cooler side. I will be back for many more visits and memories.

Mission Inn never disappoints. Every room is amazing, staff are always amazing, pool is always amazing. If I could live here I would.
- 5/5
This property is amazing, lots of history beautiful pull and spa, great location. I have stayed here many times and am always impressed. One of my favorite places to stay
- 5/5
The entire history of the property, the architecture, all the floral arrangements, the staff, the room we were in number 331 had an outside sitting area, which was great! Even the sheets on the bed were like the sheets when you get a massage in Kelly’s spa, so comfortable very elegant We went to a couple of restaurants/bars inside the Mission Inn after 10 PM just wanting a cup of coffee or hot tea and it was unavailable.

Historical, location. Outside room was very noisy with racing hot rods, subwoofer music, and partying into the early am. The hotel should manage this with law enforcement and city officials. Hotel staff was responsive by changing rooms but it ruined a night’s sleep and there was no financial compensation.

It was clean and a great location for our wedding night.

I had 30 minutes available for breakfast. The waiter ignored me for 10 minutes but when he finally brought water, I quickly ordered. I waited another 20 minutes and noticed that other guests had been served while I was still waiting. I tracked down the waiter, who then told me that the printer had jammed and my order had been delayed. It was quite odd that he had not informed me, and even stranger that he did not apologize when I had to chase him down.
- 5/5
We had a wonderful stay! Beautiful hotel!
- 5/5
A great historic hotel. Very cool and definitely not another courtyard by Marriott. It is historic, grand, quirky and comfortable. I loved it, but not for people who like modern luxury or a standard, i know where everything is type of hotel Loved it
- 5/5
Great service, beautiful scenery, will definitely be coming back. Definitely would recommend it to everyone
- 5/5
Room is spacious. Dated but quaint. Staff are available 24/7 and accommodate all our requests. Food is pricey. Hotel spa pool and jacuzzi are warm and that’s something I rarely see in LA. I’ll always come back.
- 1/5
Hotel was beautiful and staff friendly but our room was old and maybe haunted. Lots of noises, knocks on door in the middle of the night. water bottle left in room and mold in bathroom.

Rooms need upgrades. The bathrooms in the rooms are outdated, in terrible shape and need to be replaced. Staff and main property were delightful.
- 5/5
It was a beautiful property. We ate dinner at the Mexican restaurant and it was very good. We swam in the pool and sat in the hot tub. The robes were soft snd very comfortable. We were even able to find street parking.

My stay at the mission Inn was absolutely spectacular. The staff was friendly, the facilities, the restaurant and the surrounding area were beautiful.
- 5/5
The best part of this hotel experience were the gorgeous landscaping details. Flowers we're in bloom everywhere and the lights on the gardens made it all come alive at night. The hotel itself was historic and beautiful as well!

Clean room, old but updated. Clean and well maintained. Its like a museum and a hotel in one. The stuff are so helpful. I luv that their pool and hottub hrs are 630-11 pm. They said the pool is heated but it is not. The bathtub has a rust , i dont know wheather its a design. They provided almost all the bathroom amenities especially toothbrush but just one instead of 2 toothbrushes. I just am surprised theres no slippers provided. No fridge and microwave. But theres lots of restaurants to choose from inside the hotel and around it. They even have room service which was awesome. Enjoyed this stay a lot. I asked for a room close to the elevator, but was placed in a room so far from the elevator. The parking self was far from the enteance to the hotel. So its better to do valet parking if u have lots of stuff. 10$ more only from self parking . Theres coffee machines but just no water to make coffee.

The Mission Inn has the most amazing staff. They go out of their way to accommodate any needs you have. I called ahead for a specific need we had. They were happy to help us in any way. At the property we encountered personal needs that the hotel staff quickly assisted us with. After we left there was an issue with items left behind by us. They worked quickly and diligently to help us solve this problem. At the property the staff constantly worked to make our stay enjoyable. It was like having a personal assistant in every part of the property and restaurants. Who ever is in charge of hiring and training the staff is to be lauded. Every employee is of the highest caliber. Thank You for being our new go to vacation spot strictly because of your personal service to us.

- 4/5
The hotel was nice, however, the on site restaurant was terrible. The food was mediocre, at best, and the service was not prompt. While the room was fine, the shower/bathroom could use an update.
- 3/5
The parking lot doesn’t seem safe, and it’s duty. The elevators in the parking lot and some in the hotel are dirty and can use some paint.

Great stay! The staff was very welcoming and professional and respectful. And the hotel itself was like traveling back in time. We enjoyed our stay very much. (We would like to save some money to stay at the fourth floor, though...)
- 3/5
The location and hotel are very good. I just had problems with the cleanliness of the room. Also the location does make the room noisy.
- 5/5
Beautiful hotel, great setting and location.
- 1/5
Room was not ready when checked in at 4:45, bathroom had hair sticking in tub wall, one tower was ripped and from 1am to 2:30 loud party noise from the street kept us awake.
- 5/5
Hotel staff very pleasant & courtesy. Room were clean and well stocked.
- 2/5
I was supposed to have a room with 2 full beds but was giving a room with 1 king (not acceptable). And the noise from the surrounding “clubs” was awful. Didn’t get to sleep until almost 3 am. DO NOT stay on a weekend unless you have ear plugs. The staff was hit and miss. Room was clean and comfortable except for the bed issue.

Property is clean but some things are needing updates. Thin walls and single pain glass makes for noisy rooms. Super cool place and very historic. Food is fabulous but a bit pricey. Atmosphere is incredible. Recommended overall!
- 3/5
The building is beautiful and historical. The rooms were nice size and clean. I have a couple of issues that really need to be addressed. The Wifi is horrible. So so slow. I assume part of the resort fee is for wifi? Almost impossible to adjust the water temperature in the shower. It was generally steaming hot and unable to adjust it to warm or it was ice cold and had to turn on and off several times to get it warm again. Finally, check the bill. I was charged for in room movies which I did not use. I was told this was also an issue.
- 2/5
Noisy hotel, couldn’t sleep due to music from a nearby bar. Never going back.
- 2/5
Nice hotel but needs a little improvement with staff. Loud music from neighboring bar until 2am, music so loud couldn’t sleep. After 2am the bar shuts down and customers from the bar drink and carry on around the area outside the hotel property, racing their cars and honking their horns to annoy hotel guest. This has happened at our last stay two years ago and nothing has changed. Too bag because the hotel could be a nice place to stay. We will no longer stay at this hotel because of this.
- 5/5
Very friendly staff

We had a terrible stay. The room door was broken and emitted a deathly yelp every time opened or closed so kept waking us up. And a manager never called after requesting to speak with one. Also the charges were a lot higher than quoted.

Very nice place
- 2/5
I’ve been staying here almost every time I need a room in Riverside (15years), and I’m sorry to say I think it’s the last. Very disappointed Management…
- 4/5
The breakfast waitress and that the bathtub sink dripped all night.
- 4/5
The staff didn't spell out all the charges for the "amenities", even if you didn't use any of them, you still have to pay over $35 plus taxes a night for them above your room cost. It was fine for one time, but I probably won't stay again. The history of the hotel is wonderful.
- 5/5
Was a relaxing stay. Will definitely stay again.

- 5/5

- 5/5
Over all it’s worth to stay here for the history of its building and pool/spa was wonderful.
- 4/5
Dinner - Both quality of meal & excellent service!
- 4/5
Historic charm! This hotel has a level of charm that newer hotels don't. The lobby and other public areas are beautiful. The pool is just right. The staff is nice (but beware that valet can be a longer wait than you want). Note this reservation was for a basic room. And, the room was very basic. The bathroom is outdated - the fixtures in the shower are probably from the 1970's. Maybe a deluxe room has more updates.
- 4/5
Poor WiFi, very thin walls (easily heard noises from our neighbors and outside our window to the street), someone was smoking a cigar down our hallway, very poor service at Duane's with bland chicken dinner.
- 5/5

Beautiful hotel with lots of history, I highly recommend the mission tour. The standard room was disappointing no decor didn’t complement the beauty of the inn. Outside of the room the hotel is amazing. Bar prices were a bit steep however very good cocktails. We skipped dinner at the steakhouse due to Good Friday and decided to try the mission inn restaurant, worst food to say the least. The cipino was the worse I have ever had, lacking seafood served in broth of dirty dish water, the shrimp fettuccine was equally bad, lacking flavor , the noodles appeared to have been broken into 5” pieces.

The restaurant staff were a little bit rude. We didn’t appreciate their remarks on us returning to eat as hotel guests 2x in one day.
- 2/5
The room was dated. Sparsely decorated. Felt like old motel. The location was terrible, right above the street. The noise from the street performers was loud and went late. Dined at Duane’s; food was mediocre. Service was meh. Mission Inn is no longer the upscale experience it once was. That was my last visit.

Wow!!! What an exquisite piece of SoCal history. Loved wandering around the property and checking out all the history. The pool and hot tub were perfect after a race weekend. The bedding was buttery soft. Loved the free coffee in the am. And the location is awesome for walking to nearby restaurants and stores! 10/10 place to stay. It was breathtaking! We had a giant room ( awesome) but it seemed like it was missing furniture , so empty! Otherwise it was an amazing stay!
- 5/5
We loved the original architecture and beauty of the hotel. The room was spacious and the staff we friendly.
- 3/5
Place was very nice, I loved it. But there were a lot of confusion with their services. I asked some things to be brought up to the room, unfortunately they never got it right. A/C and internet wasn’t working. The best part of the stay was the tour.

Noise level on a Friday night was a negative for us as tired travelers, but it was the eve of Valentine's day and the hotel had many activities going on.

Some staff were very nice, and friendly. Others not so much. This is our 3rd time staying for a holiday/special event. The room was very clean and the ambiance is always unmatched. Will be back in the summer.

The lights and ambiance were nice in the lobby. It was nicely decorated for Valentine’s Day but the cleanliness was not there in the room. We walked in and an opened condom was on the floor next to the bed.

Celebrated my husband’s birthday with dinner and enjoyed a beautiful room. The Valentine’s Day decorations made the evening special. The staff were friendly and room was clean. Looking forward to staying again for another event.
- 5/5
Hotel property and restaurant were nice. The room was large and clean.
- 1/5
Staff was not particularly friendly. A lot of hidden costs at checkout. Had to be moved to a different room because internet didn’t work and toilet wouldn’t flush. No room service one day without explanation. $30 resort fee for one pool. Never stay there again.
- 5/5
Rooms are cozy and you can feel the history come alive! Beautiful architecture. The staff and amenities are amazing! The pool and jacuzzi are so relaxing and pool is heated! What a luxury. Food is quite pricey, if you have children pack some meals ahead. Otherwise the Mission Inn Restaurant was so delicious for breakfast. Everyone was so hospitable and welcoming from the valet to the housekeeping and front desk at night and day. I’m putting this as my new fave stay-cation get away.
- 5/5
Lovely stay.
- 5/5
Love the Mission, colour often, it’s very pricey, unfortunately so much room tax, and add-ons, including valet parking nightly, Resort fee and other taxes, but it is a beautiful place to stay! Beautiful big room, plush towels, great bedding, great coffee, and great location of course!
- 4/5
However, the mold all over the tile in the shower could easily have been cleaned and the soap / shampoo bottles that were so old the labels were half torn off and the soap wouldn’t come out was a bit disappointing.
- 4/5
Great place to stay
- 3/5
the pull out couch needs a new mattress. I could feel the springs. They make good ones. Not sure why such a nice hotel wouldn’t invest in them.

Unfortunately, they started construction work on the property at 6:15am I'm not sure what was going on, but it was loud and annoying. I've been at the Mission before and enjoyed it, however.
- 4/5
I truly loved the hotel, and it has everything for everybody.Locally. There was the occasional homeless person, but luckily in riverside, most of them. Our normal and not crazy. Unlike many other cities, but I wish the hotel would focus a little more on the air conditioning issues. And i'm a non maintenance mechanic, and I know exactly what's going on, and it's hard to fix.And it would be extremely costly, so I won't ding them too hard for that. But needless to say it was a rough night of sleep

This historic hotel was very interesting to stay at. The staff were very nice and (for an old hotel) was very clean. We took the tour and I would recommend that as it brought the Mission Inn into prospective

- 5/5
Absolutely beautiful
- 5/5
The room was beautiful! The whole experience seemed like going back in time. (I had to remind myself that the place used to be a mission so that I would behave myself...) The room was very clean (but I wish they would give us more than two small bottles of water...).
- 5/5
Love the bougainvilleas, too
- 5/5
Everything. This place is magic. My only beef is the parking. You have to technically park across the street and our ticket didn’t work when leaving so we had to pay for parking again.
- 4/5
No in room srvice
- 5/5
The beautiful Christmas lights everywhere! The decorations were amazing. If you get a chance check out the chapel and other floors. Lots of photo opportunities! To The President's Lounge was great. We had drinks here both nights of our stay. Nothing it was all wonderful.
- 5/5
Such a beautiful & special place! You feel like you're in another era from the past. The staff are friendly and helpful. The restaurants are expensive but food is delicious. Be sure to walk around and explore. We stayed during the month of October and took the haunted tour which was super fun & educational. The rooms are spacious & comfy but we were on the side where our window faced the promenade and it was noisy early in the AM with street music. The pool is huge and we went night swimming which was super cool. Our teen son really loved the place too. Right outside just walk across the street to get some culture & see the great Cheech Marin Art Museum and Riverside Art Museum. There's also a massive antique store just across the street on the corner. We did Valet parking which was super easy. One night we took the car & enjoyed a Drive In movie at the Van Buren Drive in. A fun experience! Be sure to check out Tio's Taco's down the street too. More fun art to see & yummy food. We loved the Mission Inn & have told friends to go stay or even just do a day trip and tour around. They always thank us! It's a wonderful, magical place! We look forward to going back. The only issue was in advance I had ordered chocolate covered strawberries to be in our room when we arrived when I made our reservations, since it was our wedding anniversary but they were not there and never were delivered. Though I made sure I was not charged for them. Give yourself a treat & enjoy a stay here!
- 4/5
Everything was awesome
- 4/5
Room was nice( was old but worked), bed very good and bedding sheets were so comfortable. Dinner was good. The hotel was decked out so beautifully. Christmas season of joyful happiness. Grounds were delightful and great photo oops. The room was nice and comfortable. Room smell good and clean. The bathroom is dated the tile work around tub needs attention. Its old but clean, One more thing the hall ways smelled....a little spooky...remembered me of the shinning,, Over all a good stay.
- 4/5
I like the Spanish style building
- 5/5
Everything was excellent!!!! It is so magiacl and would highly reccomand!
- 4/5
Good stay thus far.
- 4/5
Iconic Historic Landmark hotel. Great service food and drinks. My Room faced the street which was quite noisy unfortunately.
- 5/5
Yes
- 5/5
Amazing piece with so much history. Staff was very helpful and professional. Very clean and beautifully decorated for the holidays 🌲
- 5/5
Historic hotel beautiful in every way.
- 5/5
Hotel area was clean and well maintained. Beautiful venue, Festival of Lights. They really go on and beyond.
- 5/5
extremely great staff, clean rooms
- 5/5
We will come back.
- 2/5
I checked out the next day, was handed a receipt for the parking and thought everything was good. On new years eve I get an alert that they charged me again. Long story short, I wasnt able to get any help or resolve. Basically wait some business days and it should clear up. So over $700 gone but hey just wait it out. It is Monday the 5th still no money back. Horrible
- 5/5
Parking should be free as in any motel or hotel.
- 5/5
Absolutely the room was perfectly clean and yes the staff was great it's the 3rd time I've stayed here and i definitely recommend this hotel especially on Christmas time cause the decor is beautiful.
- 3/5
Room needs a major upgrade, especially the bathroom, which looks like a bathroom you would find in an old house from the 50's, in a tasteless, tacky way. I understand the vibes of the hotel are not modern, but it's supposed to be updated, classic luxury as seen in the common areas.
- 4/5
We had a wonderful time at The Mission Inn Hotel & Spa, we had dinner at one of their restaurants and it was great. Our room was clean, and we were at the room which was facing the courtyard. Overall, we had a great time.
- 5/5
I wanted to give a special thank you to every staff member! Thank you a million for your assistance and welcoming spirit. We had a wonderful time and WILL be coming back undoubtedly. Shout out to Leah and Brittney and Iris! Thank you!
- 5/5
Dinning pricing is overpriced especially Duane’s
- 5/5
great place
- 5/5
All was good. Family type
- 5/5
The hotel has a lot of history, the decorations and excellent customer service.
- 4/5
The staff was great! The breakfast was not free. The facility was extremely crowded with outsider walking around the lobby.
- 1/5
We hooked for 2 rooms. After checking in both our rooms were very dirty. One of the rooms had a broken lock. They changed our rooms to another which smelled horrible. Both of the rooms were very dirty, one had dirty sheets, with make up on the pillow case. The tub was dirty and had old water still sitting in the tub.
- 5/5
Amazing!!!
- 5/5
Absolutely beautiful Christmas decorations that lived up to all the hype. The room was nicely appointed and every single staff, from traffic control to the front desk were exceptionally customer service oriented and welcoming. We will be returning next year!
- 1/5
First they gave me a room with only 1 bed when I booked 2 queens. They said they were overbooked and offered a cod. Then our 8 pm dinner reservation was not honored,
- 1/5
We did not get into our room till 545. Check in is 4. The worst service I have ever had. There were many people having the same issue.
- 3/5
Too expensive for what was offered
- 5/5
Amazing!!
- 3/5
T V was dark and program guide did not match with what was on the TV. In room refrigerator was cool at best and no way to adjust it. Parking was not that close and it cost an additional $30. Overall our stay was not worth the money spent.
- 5/5
Extraordinary!!!
- 5/5
The staff and the room were fabulous and the hotel was gorgeous
- 5/5
This is a very Nice place. Decor is fantastic and Christmas decorations and lights great
- 5/5
Clean room
- 5/5
Amenities, room service, holiday decorations!
- 3/5
Our room was facing the mall that had ALL ENTERTAINMENT until 11:00 pm. The hotel did not share this with us. If it had, we would have changed our room. The NOISE was unbearable. The windows in the room are single pane and don't close completely. If you are going to pay a hefty price for a room, it better be worth it. You will hear the TRAIN ALL NIGHT. We got a call at 1:00am asking us to pick up our key at the front desk, I asked for what, they said a room change. We never asked for a ROOM CHANGE. They did comp us breakfast. That was it. It is a beautiful place and the decorations were outstanding. Just be aware of where in the hotel they put you. The Avoid the mexican restaurant, food was below average. The help was really nice and helpful. Just a really bad placement of room for the price, and not being told.
- 5/5
Festival of Lights is fantastic
- 5/5
Ambience inside the hotel were great!
- 4/5
Shower had no hot water
- 5/5
It was overall an amazing experience especially with all the holiday activities
- 5/5
Food was delicious! Atmosphere beautiful!
- 5/5
Everyone was very nice. The room is spotless. Great festival of lights
- 1/5
However, when we arrived at the Mission Inn Restaurant for our reservation - they were not serving dinner meals but it was a ridiculous buffet line jammed with people elbow to elbow and no vegetarian meals! We were directed to another hotel restaurant that did serve a selection of vegetarian food. The Bella Restuarant said it would be a 30 minute wait with 5 reservations in front of us despite me explaining the hotel screwup. Over an hour later, we gave up to walk down the street to another restaurant. Then, getting to our room about 7:30 pm, the nasty Festival of Lights street band noise was directly below our third floor room. It was terrible! It forced us to leave the Mission Inn Hotel very upset at 9:45 pm.
- 5/5
Everything was wonderful. from the rooms to the food and the decor, lights and festivities were just awesome. We will be staying here again
- 1/5
Front desk staff lied to me about my room reservation, claiming I booked a 2 bed suite when my expedia itenerary states 1 queen bed.
- 4/5
It was all great but at night loud noise started at 1 AM & stayed till 2:30 AM couldn’t sleep at all & had a very bad night for old people
- 3/5
I like the Christmas decors and lights
- 5/5
Everything was Fabulous
- 5/5
Excellent customer service
- 3/5
It’s charming, yes. But there are many compromises to be made with a building this old. Also, why are biker gangs riding at 2 AM in downtown Riverside?
- 1/5
I booked a double queen for 3 adults and the hotel said they oversold so I had to buy another king room in order to fit our party.
- 5/5
Great place, great service, great location. We will return for sure.
- 5/5
We loved everything about this hotel and Loved the historical tour and exploring the grounds. The afternoon tea food was not that great though.
- 5/5
Very friendly staff. Room is ok. I prefer better view. Beds very clean and comforters cozy, but pillows not so comfortable.
- 1/5
Don’t like
- 3/5
Room outdated, very old carpets and furniture - feels like 1986 circa. The hotel is nice and has character but the rooms are in dire need of a thorough renovation.
- 5/5
Front desk was great. Generous room upgrade d/t rain. Amazing view of the courtyard. Beautiful clean room. Very comfortable bed. Great coffee - brought my own creamer. Shower took a long while before getting warm. Waiter at the Presidential didn’t seemed to happy to serve and did the bare minimum- expected more from a high end eatery. Hotel stay a definite comeback.
- 2/5
room service didn’t bring me ranch that I asked for twice and didn’t provide proper utensils. The bathtub was in bad condition and not draining properly
- 5/5
Exceed my expectations
- 5/5
I’ll would be coming back again. Everything looks beautiful at night. Food option were amazing. Even walking around exploring the mission was beautiful.
- 5/5
Went back in time
- 5/5
We really enjoyed our stay
- 5/5
Everything was great! We’ve stayed there multiple times in really enjoy it. Definitely will go back!!
- 5/5
Staff is very nice and very helpful ... Thanks!
- 5/5
For the most part, I would give them five stars, but I did have a few complaints on the menus. Every menu in the room says the restaurant opens up at 6:30 AM but no one in the staff there shows up until 7 AM. That was a little bit ridiculous. The area in general nothing opens until seven so if you’re an early riser, trying to get out the door at six, pilots airlines business, etc. good luck getting anything to eat.
- 5/5
This was a first class experience! The room was spotless, the staff were all friendly and efficient. The breakfast was not complimentary but it was fabulous and wait staff excellent!
- 5/5
Entering the hotel is like walking into another world. You must experience to understand it's uniqueness.
- 5/5
Clean room. Staffs are nice. The place is beautiful.
- 4/5
- 4/5
This is likely the nicest hotel i’ve stayed at. It is grande. It is a rock-solid building. The room had every amenity that I could need. They provide a load of towels. The insight food and libations are good, and better yet the entire block is packed with
- 5/5
The hotel was amazing! We spent most of the morning exploring the hotel and architecture. The staff was friendly and our catacomb tour was so much fun. We will definitely be booking a stay here very soon again.
- 5/5
The place is amazing. We got there late so we could only order from the late night menu for dinner. Service was on point.
- 3/5
The hotel was beautiful and very elegant. The staff was friendly and helpful, and the room was clean. The only downside was the shower—it was quite outdated and had very low water pressure. Otherwise, it was a wonderful stay with plenty of nearby restaurants to choose from.
- 5/5
Everything was perfect! Wonderfully staff, rooms cleaned and nice
- 5/5
The Mission Inn is such a lovely historic property and the surrounding area has many lovely restaurants and shopping opportunities with a romantic atmosphere. We will definitely be returning. ❤️
- 5/5
The history.
- 5/5
The dinners we had at Duane's Steakhouse and Las Campanas were superb. All of the staff at the Mission Inn are friendly, kind and helpful. Crystal Olivares, the event planner was amazing, patient and very helpful in arranging and coordin
- 5/5
I adore this landmark California hotel! All was truly wonderful. It’s a beautifully odd place, even a tad spooky. The staff obviously loves it too, and from the maids to the front desk to the tour guides, all were most obliging. I love looking at the myriads of old art there. I can’t wait to go back!
- 1/5
room was over loud bar
- 3/5
The rooms are shabby and need to be upgraded, there was hair on the toilet in the bathroom and in the tub and on the floor the furniture in the room needs an overhaul. Walking around the property do you notice a lot of things that aren’t clean on a daily basis such as the lobby cabinets that showcase amenities and things they offer in the hotel.
- 5/5
I was in the hotel like a month ago and i really like the hotel i came back and brought my whole family to see the hotel but it was no lighting i guess they been preparing for the christmas i was really disappointed it that even on a website didn’t say that there’s not going to be the lightings. i we’ll really prisiated it if they put that in a website i would not come that week i we’ll brought my family in 2 weeks . So they can see the lighting Thank you .
- 5/5
This was my 30th stay at the Mission Inn- it’s costly but so unique I keep going back. Every room is different. In early October they were starting to put up the famous Christmas lights that draw hundreds of viewers. Staying in the holiday season is something you need to do- I’ve done it about six times, it never disappoints.
- 3/5
There was a club nearby that played music loud until 4 in the morning
- 5/5
Great room great staff
- 5/5
Excellent stay
- 3/5
The showerheads were
- 4/5
Great place
- 5/5
Our stay at the Mission was wonderful. Conveniently located to everything we planned to attend. Local shops and eats very convenient as well. The hotel food was great! Would stay again if ever back in Riverside.
- 5/5
Unfortunately the room was dirty. Toothpick and hair all over the floor. I complained and was told the maid service would take care of it the next day. After returning for the day the floor was in the exact same condition as well the shower backed up. It’s not a good look when you take a shower and your feet are covered in backed up dirty water. Very surprising for The Mission Inn!
- 4/5
Noisy because of the courtyard dining below.
- 5/5
room was very quiet and very compfortable.
- 4/5
Beautiful
- 2/5
Poor Service. Could not go in the Pool as the gate would not open with my card/key. Waited for staff an hour and no one helped open the gate. Tried calling a second time and they told me that was a common problem that someone was going to help open it and again no one showed.
- 2/5
Poor view, very very noisy. I could hear big trucks under my window at 4:00 am. A lot of morning traffic, cars, big trucks. Terrible.
- 5/5
This place is magical. Great food, Customer service is impeccable, and the atmosphere is beautiful. A must stay. Go to the spa!
- 5/5
The Mission Inn grounds were beautifully designed and maintained. There are many dining options available on the property. Nice shopping and dining options right on the next street. I give this Hotel five stars!
- 5/5
Loved everything about this hotel. only thing i didnt like was the 40$ charge per night for valet or 30$ a night for self parking do to not seeing anything about these charges prior to booking.had i known prior i still would have stayed but this time just felt blind sided . Otherwise fantastic hotle fantastic staff
- 5/5
Beautiful grounds and excellent accommodations this hotel. It’s really a gem and historical landmark . We will definitely return for the holidays.
- 3/5
Very beautiful property.
- 4/5
The entire staff was always friendly and sincerely looking to improve our stay. The hotel itself is fun to explore and the grounds are beautiful. The room was clean and nice but the street noise on the wing that faced the adjoining open air mall was quite loud well into the night. I would request a different room next time.
- 5/5
History tour improved, but gift shop gone. Big disappointment there
- 5/5
Is beatiful
- 5/5
Great staff and room . Looking forward to going back
- 2/5
the outside of the property is nice, however inside the rooms the balcony bar is unsafe and moving, dirty balcony dirty room and bathroom, mold all over in the restroom. needs major renovation.
- 3/5
Room did not have a refrigerator. Requested additional towels and coffee, there for 3 days, 2 adults. Towels and coffee were never provided.
- 5/5
Clean
- 5/5
Everything was great with our stay
- 3/5
The WiFi doesn’t work for whole night. We call several times but no solution. The pillow case is dirty.
- 5/5
Everything was amazing
- 5/5
Wonderful stay. Clean, comfortable room. Linens were exceptional. Comfortable bed. Pleasant and friendly staff. Worth every penny!
- 5/5
Beautiful experience overall, I would recommend. The only issue was the bathtub had a very slow drain. Not a big deal for us, only had a one night stay.
- 5/5
Best place in Riverside
- 4/5
The evening staff was amazing!
- 5/5
Beautiful location and close to everything
- 5/5
We had ate lunch at the mission in restaurant for lunch Friday and the service was amazing. They accidentally put ketchup on my friends chicken sandwich but the staff fixed it right away. We went to the steak house and the staff was soo delightful and food was perfect. The flan and chocolate cake was Devine. I want to bring my husband back for that!!! We also went to Bellas to dance the night away. Saturday we planned to spend the whole day at the Hot Springs, but my friend who is very sensitive thinks she had a reaction to the well water or the actual springs so we came back to the hotel so she could rest and feel better. Her tongue was numb and stomach unsettled. That was a bummer so we decided to have brunch and then enjoy kellys spa. All the staff was gold standard service. Patty and Latoya in the spa deserve a metal for their friendliness and knowledge. The valet staff helpful and welcoming. Excited to bring my husband.
- 5/5
Excellent location and architecture
- 5/5
Great architecture, history, and staff attentiveness
- 5/5
Beautiful hotel. Highly recommended.
- 5/5
Very quiet
- 5/5
Beautiful hotel, with one of a kind unique decor. Nice pool. Walking distance to dining and the Fox Theater. Our room lacked a mini refrigerator. Excellent staff at valet, bell service, and front desk. Very prompt & helpful.
- 3/5
As a frequent guest, I have always loved the Mission Inn. However, this time seemed different. My room was not up to the usual clean standard upon arrival. To be fair, staff did quickly return and correct the deficiency. Check in was delayed due to my room not being ready yet, but to also be fair, staff pushed back my check out time to compensate. The common areas in the hotels hallways were hot as if the air conditioner was not working. Many areas showed signs of deferred maintenance. I.e...broken roof tiles, caulk that needed to be relaid, cobwebs in the corners of the ceiling and other small maintenance items. This is unusual for the Mission Inn. I hope to see them return to their usual high standard of resort quality.
- 4/5
good hotel
- 5/5
Very nice
- 5/5
Great location and very clean rooms
- 4/5
A lot parts of the hotel are closed to guests unless you pay for their guided tours ($20 per person). There is also an additional resort fee, parking fee. There is a guy stopping you from getting to the courtyard because it is their restaurant.
- 5/5
Had a great stay and will definitely be back
- 4/5
The room itself was fine, just missing a few towels and coffee, which were delivered shortly after I called for them. All in all it's a wonderful place to stay and we will return.
- 5/5
Stunning property with a great atmosphere.
- 1/5
This property charge me $35 for parking! I told the front desk that I parked away from the property and they still had the nerve to charge me parking!!
- 3/5
The pool area needs to be pressure washed and treated for pests. I was ate up alive while lounging. I ordered breakfast4 times and all meals were poorly made & received cold. Also the carpet had a huge stain that could come out if shampooed and the rooms could be updated.
- 5/5
Unmatched hospitality from the moment we valet parked to the front desk to the gentleman who delivered our food in room service. And just when we thought it couldn't get any better we were graced with the beautiful ambiance from the courtyard to our spacious room.
- 1/5
I did not get the room I reserved. I paid for a Deluxe, 2-Queen room, which was slightly bigger than the Standard 2-Queen room that was advertised on your website. When I arrived at the hotel, I did not get the room I reserved. I was told it was a Standard Queen room, and Hotels.com mis-advertised the room names. I explained that even though their website showed two different 2-Queen rooms, they were priced differently, with the larger room being more expensive. The front desk told me that there was no difference, and would not refund me the extra charge for the larger room I originally reserved. In addition, I waited 1 1/2 hours at the hotel restaurant to get my food. The waiter apologized, telling me there were only TWO waiters on staff that night! It was a terrible experience, I was overcharged, and I will never be back!
- 2/5
Quirky, historical. But also shabby.
- 5/5
Beautiful property. Convenient location. A bit dated but overall great.
- 5/5
Fantastic stay
- 2/5
Checked in a little late. Got a room that was small and uncomfortable. There was no fridge, no alarm clock. So we decided to get room service to cheer up the night. When the food came. There was a dirty soiled napkin on top of the food. I called to complain they made me feel like it were my fault. Stayed here numerous times never had this happen. It’s gone downhill. Very expensive for very poor service and accommodations. I believe I’m still getting charged for random things. I’ve checked out two days ago.
- 4/5
Beautiful property
- 5/5
Awesome place with great history!
- 2/5
I have always loved the Mission Inn. Seems the beds aren't as up to snuff.
- 5/5
Our stay was excellent, from the checkin- in to check-out. The staff was exceptionally friendly, beginning with Art, who was so helpful and knowledgeable about the history of the hotel. We were able to check in two hours early. The room was spacious and the grounds were lush and gorgeous. We will definitely be returning!
- 5/5
The restaurants are very good and there are other shops, museums and restaurants within walking distance. The bed was so comfortable with satin sheets! I will back many times in the future.
- 5/5
Food was wonderful. Room was comfortable and clean and spacious. Phillip, the General Manager, was exceptional and took time out of his day to show us around and tell us stories of the history. Such an amazing visit!
- 5/5
Everything was great
- 5/5
Beautiful historic property. Our room overlooked the pool and was pretty spacious although the bathroom is a little dated. They have a very nice pool and Jacuzzi area several eating options and a generally laid-back atmosphere in a grand hotel that’s been around many years.
- 5/5
Amazing customer service and dining! Our room was clean and the bed was very comfortable. Will continue to come back!
- 5/5
Great history, great restaurants and bars. Well maintained with helpful staff.
- 5/5
Nice!! Worth it
- 5/5
Micheal does a fabulous job tending to the shrubbery and flowers. I managed to get his attention to say thank you and boy he has a great personality too! Introduced him to my whole family. Thanks Michael! Can’t remember the names of others but they were the pool staff and did a fabulous job serving us food, drinks and keep the area clean and safe. Security staff was good at making sure hotel guests were only people permitted to the hotel. Thank you all!
- 5/5
Stunning
- 5/5
Great stay
- 5/5
When you explore the Mission’s grounds, you are taken back in time and place. It’s looks like you are traveling to Asia, Spain and Italy. So many areas to explore and enjoy. Almost like a dream destination.
- 5/5
great place to stay, very beautiful and well-maintained inn. the staff/workers were amazing too
- 5/5
This is an amazing hotel stepping into an incredible historic location
- 3/5
I love this property, however the location of our room faced the street and there was a lot of noise throughout the entire night. I would make sure to ask for a room that does not face the street.
- 4/5
Pleasant stay. Beautiful hotel and its surroundings. Best of all the exceptional staff. I was treated with importance. Alejandro at the front desk- thank you for taking time in assisting me with the list of historical hotels. Valentin was ready and anticipated what I needed. Melissa thanks to you I had my afternoon tea at the last minute. Chef Alex for allowing me to partake afternoon tea with last minute reservation. And for welcoming me during my tea. And to the great Arturo for being my server during tea. I had wonderful tea time overlooking the beautiful courtyard. Memorable experience overall👍 - m goldman
- 4/5
Great historic place to stay.
- 5/5
Historic
- 4/5
It’s a unique national treasure with beautiful old world Spanish architecture
- 3/5
Lovely hotel. Love the historic atmosphere. Some dinginess in the room (curtains wouldn’t open on one side, tear in the headboard, etc). Not a lot of info on the hotel (history, etc) itself which would have been nice to have as a guest. Hidden fees above what I already paid through Expedia.
- 5/5
It was absolutely beautiful and in a great location. Restaurants and room service
- 3/5
We had a great time during our stay. We were celebrating our anniversary and were looking for an easy getaway. There were more kids than we anticipated- our first morning there were kids running through the hall which was unfortunate. Other than that the facility was clean and well taken care of and our room was just what we were looking for.
- 5/5
Cool stay
- 5/5
From the check in, to the customer service with everyone except our waitress during breakfast, it was a wonderful stay

Happily, Bev Poole
- 5/5
Staff was great, property is amazing
- 3/5
We love the Mission Inn.
- 1/5
2. Front desk staff were not professional or help at all. 3. Brunch wait staff were not courteous and we had to constantly look for wait staff because they weren’t around. 4. Seemed like staff in the restaurant or front desk didn’t want to be in customer service or hospitality. They’re just bodies collecting checks.
- 3/5
No refrigerator in the room. Housekeeping left the door propped open after they cleaned. Luckily nothing was stolen.
- 5/5
It is a beautiful place!
- 5/5
I always go to the Mission Inn when in Riverside.
- 3/5
The checking-in process took awhile. The room had trash left in it so not sure if it was actual cleaned. Room service food trays lined up and down the hallways for a solid 24hrs. When we went to the brunch, the server didnt come up for 20min, and food was basic and unfavorful.
- 5/5
Tour and guide was great
- 3/5
Staff is helpful and polite the hotel tour was interesting and the champagne and the gift was a nice surprise. However in my Room the safe was broken (helpful to leave your valuables when you go to dinner or pool) and the room in general needs maintenance. The Mexican restaurant Las campanas have nice staff however they need a new chef food is not good. And the worst is the California lounge drinks are over priced I got a Don julio 70 shot and they charged $42 DOLLARS I never paid that much for that drink not even in at the Wynn on Las Vegas!! Nation wide average is: $17-25 The bartender was nice though. Other than that it’s good try at least once but NOT TO COMEBACK.
- 5/5
Amazing historic hotel. Beautiful grounds. Beautiful rooms. Ate at the Mission Inn restaurant and had a wonderful meal. Took the tour of the hotel and learned a lot of its history and of the founding of the city of Riverside. Might be my favorite hotel I’ve ever stayed in.
- 2/5
Could not enjoy a show or flush the toilet
- 5/5
Mission Inn hotel is truly a ONE of a KIND property unlike no other
- 5/5
Luxury and history! Lovely!!
- 4/5
Great stay. The staff was great. The only downside was the dinner where it looked like they were serving a homeless person. This person was loud, rude and keep yelling at that staff. After his dinner he was making all these belching sounds. Very disgusting and he was seated at the table across for ours in the restaurant where these was only three tables with people eating.
- 5/5
Very nice stay. We meet up with family and reminisced about our fathers and uncles worked here and sister had her quincenera here and cousin got married here at the Mission Inn. It was pleasant and nostalgic
- 5/5
Absolutely beautiful!
- 5/5
I can’t believe it’s taken me so long to book a stay here. From the valet to the front desk to every single staff member we encountered, this is a five star experience.
- 5/5
Very beautiful and lovely staff
- 2/5
I had high expectations as I've never stayed at the hotel before but had enjoyed the restaurants and spa in the past. The rooms are large and comfortably space however there was a visible stain on the rug and alsi the ceiling in the shower was not clean. The housekeeping woke jecup daily at 8am even though i had the do not disturb sign on the handle. I ordered room service for breakfast 3 times and I can honestly say the cooks did not prepare my breakfasts properly. I sent them back each time mostly not eaten because it was so bad. In my opinion if you can't prepare breakfast you do not belong in the kitchen. I went to the pool and i havev to say I was very disappointed in the condition of the pool area. The pool really need a good pressure wash and i was hitten up by mosquitoes all over my ankles. Other guests complained about the bites as well. Overall, the Mission Inn has definitely fallen off in my opinion. I hope they can get things together.

Around 3 am we were woken up because someone was power washing right outside our window, we called front desk to let them know but nothing changed. It went on for about an hour. We weren’t able to fall asleep until after 4am. Such an unfortunate experience because we were only there for 1 night and that was frustrating. I wish the hotel would have compensated us some of our room fair. But they just said they would let management know.

The room was just ok, nothing special. There were no in-room dining menus and no map as to where the ice machine/elevators were. No data on what was available, coffee shops? Restaurants? Desserts? Missing stuff from the mini-bar, hope I don’t get charged!

Wonderful old Inn. Our second stay here. Lots of history. Lots of stuff not working this time though. One elevator of two was out. The heater on the pool. The drain in our sink. Needs a heavy dose of routine maintenance.
