Beautiful views, nice balcony and communal spaces. Met a great friend here and other friendly roommates. Nice bathroom. Just a lot of stairs but it was fine. The breakfast is just bread and a slice of fruit lol.

Good room, nice location About 100 steps to reach reception

The man at the front was extremely knowledgeable, friendly and a gem of a human. That was the only positive about this place. The mattresses were ripped, torn and wreaked of a foul odor. I've never seen such disgusting mattresses in my life and I've been to 100's of hostels/hotels this was THE worst . The whole hostal is in horrendous condition. It's not fit for use and should be condemned. To reach this place there's about 60 steps to go up so if you have large luggage, good luck. The washrooms were disgusting , filthy never been cleaned before and old antiquated equipment. also, be very careful , they will try and hustle money out of you, they make you sign these "rules" and when you leave they'll threaten to steal money from you ! Do not stay here !!!! It's way over-priced, it's a run down, beat up old house that's way out the way of everything. . Awful experience

Beyond being really close to the heart of Lapa, staff made the difference, they were always helpful and kind. Few minutes walking you will be at Santa Tereza main attractions. It is a colonial house, so expect some stairs before getting to the living room to enjoy that nice view of Rio. It is not something I did not like, but a suggestion. You guys could have curtains on the bunk beds, it would add a great sense of privacy in shared rooms.

Beautiful view, amazing , hot shower So many stairs, kinda far away from restaurants, it wasn’t clean, the kitchen doesn’t have a microwave and seemed dirty and bed smell, my bed looked like someone was there before and wasn’t clean beforehands my checkin

-The room was spacious -The bed was comfortable I’ve stayed in many hostels and this is probably the worst experience I’ve ever had with a staff member. I messaged beforehand asking if I could check in early to the room I booked, and if I couldn’t, I would book a dorm room (my flight was arriving at 1:45am). I was told if the room was available, I could pay to check in early. When I arrived, the room wasn’t available so I asked to book a dorm bed- as I couldn’t just wait in the streets until check in time- it was 2:30am. The man at the front desk said I had to pay an early check in fee for the dorm room. I asked why since I wasn’t checking in early for the entire next day, but would only be using the room for around 9 hours. He was not very understanding, and it was a very frustrating experience; had I known this, I would have booked the room before I arrived and I wouldn’t have had to pay an extra fee. Then when I was questioning the extra fee, he told me it wasn’t an early check in fee, but it was a fee that everyone had to pay if they don’t check in at 2pm (the check in time). Then he tried to say the name of the fee doesn’t translate to English. Basically, the interaction had me in tears and I still don’t understand why I had to pay an early check in fee for a room that I wasn’t checking into early and only staying in for 9 hours, especially as I messaged before hand with my arrive time and asking what my options were. Some other negatives: -the air conditioning in the room did not work -the staff never explained anything during check in to- breakfast information, that I had to bring the key to reception every time I left (which is annoying because you have to go up alot of stairs and then back down) -no hand soap in the bathroom -no spoons in the kitchenette and only 1 fork and 1 knife

A bit dirty

The view of the city is incredible! The staff and volunteers were so friendly and offered tips and advice. The rooms are clean and the bathrooms are generally clean. The other guests were social and fun to hang out with. It rained the entire 7 days I was there and most of my complaints were related to the weather. The roof had small leaks over the main dining area and pooled water in front of the kitchen. The 40 stairs to get up to the hostel are not covered, plus 12 more steps to get up to the bar are not covered. There isn't really a central hangout spot indoors, and because it was raining we had to brave the elements to be social. The nearest market, store, or restaurant is a 15-minute walk.

Lots of steps to the hostel. The location can be dangerous at night, specially if you walking solo. There were hardly any other guests when I stayed there which makes it difficult to meet people.
