Reviews
The hotel is generally praised for its cleanliness, comfortable rooms, and friendly staff. However, the surrounding area is frequently described as sketchy, unsafe, and depressing due to the high presence of homelessness and drug use. The lack of parking and high valet fees are also common complaints.

Clean rooms with a staff that was very helpful. The hotel is in a great location downtown close to the met and the park

Following this interaction, I contacted the front desk to report the situation. Unfortunately, my concerns were not acknowledged, and no apology was offered regarding the bartender's behavior or the fact that my room service order was not taken. Their solution was a free drink ticket at the bar that just reprimanded me. I understand that technical issues can occur; however, I was disappointed by the lack of professionalism and customer service in resolving the matter.

Great Rooms and great location to downtown and waterfront Could use more perks with the Junior sweet food or drink tickets along with clean Robs everyday

The only downside was the location as at night is a little sketchy
- 4/5
that it wasnt clear that you had to ask for a fridge to be brought to your room so we wasted an opportunity to bring food back. and have drinks in our room that we couldnt get in hotel.

Loved the staff. Drew was especially helpful and very personable. The rooms and lobby are very beautiful. that it wasnt clear that you had to ask for a fridge to be brought to your room so we wasted an opportunity to bring food back. and have drinks in our room that we couldnt get in hotel.

Excellent staff….location & amenities!
- 5/5
The valet was a little slow when we arrived - parking spots were blocked, there was no attendant, and it was a wait to drop my keys off. The surrounding area in a 1-block radius is not the best for walking around at night with homeless people on the sidewalks and abandoned, boarded up buildings, but the hotel can only do so much about surrounding development.

The bar staff was excellent and so was the front counter staff. Ceiling height was great. No ice bucket, broken shower tiles, area rug was ratty, windows don't open, no fresh air and the HVAC wasn't working properly.

They throttle the ac at night, so the room was hot. You can’t trigger the AC to come on. The bed is just okay so it was a miserable night. You get a free drink at the bar with your room, but the bar is lit like a retirement home and the bartender is not interested in swapping out blown kegs. It is designed for guests to not use the amenities. We were happy to drive away quickly and experience real Portland and not Marriott envisioned AI Portland.

Wonderful clean and modern rooms, amazing staff and close walk to everything.

Bad neighborhood
- 5/5
Beautiful hotel, with a fantastic staff & great location! I will absolutely stay at the Hi Lo again.
- 2/5
The beds were wildly uncomfortable. The area is more unsafe than most of Portland. They tried to charge 4 days for valet when we had 1. The rugs in the room were an extreme tripping hazard. Would not stay again.
- 2/5
Staff was not very friendly, the hotel charges travel fee that is 30 dollars a day and will try to get you to take credit of 15 for the bar so you’re still paying 30 dollars a day. There was so storage space for clothes.

The Hi-Lo is located right downtown and near several food trucks, making it easy to grab a late-night bite. It's also conveniently located near the waterfront. The hotel was quieter than expected, and my goodness, I was impressed with how lovely the suite was. The shower was glorious - lots of water pressure and lovely soap. The beds were also very comfortable. The rooms also receive a lot of light. All around, very lovely. Drew, the gentleman who greeted me upon check-in, was very friendly and courteous—a true hospitalian. An in-room fridge to keep some drinks cold would have been nice. Parking is available off-site, but it is close by and reasonably priced.

Clean rooms.
- 4/5
It was a very nice day at that hotel. The people were very nice only had valet parking but right across the street had public parking. That was a hell of a lot cheaper.
- 5/5
lovely hotel. Loved the big room and spacious bathroom. The staff were amazing! The host with the Cat Earrings was so charming and helped me out with a little project I needed for my family gathering. Overall lovely stay

Very Clean and aesthetically pleasing and very quiet!
- 2/5
The room had really thin walls, could hear a lot of chatter. Windows looked out at a brick wall a few feet from the window. No sitting area etc.
- 3/5
The room was very clean but smaller and darker than expected through pictures. Was bummed with the room and location I got in a group booking, and another option wasn't suggested to me at check in, and by the time I had the conversation it was too much of a hassle to switch. Overall staff very respectful. Quiet and easy to sleep, but some of our group thought the beds and pillows were very hard. I'd say the price was a maybe 15% high for what it was but I'd recommend it still, but a higher end room.

Room was well appointed albeit a bit small. Very conveniently located when coming to Portland by train and lots of interesting things to do within a few minutes walk or streetcar ride away.

It’s a great historic building. It’s not a big hotel so it felt intimate. The lobby is really welcoming and is a great place to hang out, as well as check in/out. There’s a long table with chess, checkers and tic tac toe boards, comfy couches, even a piano to play as well as some items that invite guest interaction, and everything is chic and stylish but also inviting. Only a few blocks from Powell’s Books and Voodoo Donuts; and a super popular food truck area is only a block away. Staff is super friendly and welcoming.

Spa and swimming pool is outdoor and looks not so clean so we did not use it.

We enjoyed our stay the staff was great and property is very clean the lobby is a little dated but rooms were comfortable and bathrooms very nice. Must be aware of your surroundings being in city many homeless people in area.
- 4/5
The hotel is clean, comfortable and staff are super friendly and helpful. The location is awful. There are a lot of night clubs around and all night there was drag racing and loud noises all night long! We could not sleep the car racing was awful!! Too bad location is poor, hotel and staff are nice.

Great room and service. I liked the robe. One elevator wasn’t working, which slowed some things down. Central location in Portland and walking distance to a lot of places.
- 5/5
I liked the cleanliness of the hotel room, nice water pressure, nice temperature for shower just not the hotel itself they need to do better with keeping the trash cans empty and the front door rug swept.. but staff is friendly and accommodating. Area is not great but it’s ok beware of homeless trying to mess with you.. would I stay here again? Probably not lol
- 4/5
Hotel was great, but neighborhood is currently really bad
- 5/5
This place is my go to whenever I head to Portland. A great blend of modern updates with some old school charm. The staff has always been very friendly and the restaurant and bar on site was great.
- 5/5
I stay at this hotel often and it’s always amazing service and cleanliness rooms.
- 5/5
We stayed here for three nights to explore Portland and it was a great place to stay. The rooms were spacious for a downtown hotel, the beds were so comfy, excellent shower pressure, spotlessly clean, the AC worked great, and the staff were so helpful from directions to donuts to complimentary bottled water on our way out the door each morning (it was so hot outside!) We were an easy walk to Powell Books, excellent food trucks, lots of cute shops. The valet parking is offsite and requires a ~10 minute heads up depending on traffic for them to drive back. We would stay here again if visiting the city.
- 4/5
Everything was wonderful, just that the quote I got from hotels.com was $200 less than what I paid when I went to pay on site.
- 5/5
Honestly, the staff cannot have been any nicer. Friendly from the moment I walk through the door. I thought the hotel was in a really great location. It was very easy to get to via the train from the airport which I would highly recommend. I will definitely go back to this hotel if I'm ever in Portland, Oregon again.
- 5/5
It was so close to the mall and bus/train station so easy access to everything needed.
- 3/5
Bed was very uncomfortable.
- 4/5
Seemed a little short staffed. The rug in the room was so slippery almost fell with my son in my hands. But besides that, the hotel is in the middle of so much, food, drinks, shopping etc.
- 5/5
Loved it!!
- 5/5
wish they had secure free parking otherwise great location
- 5/5
We stayed here for seven nights last week. It was a perfect hotel for the two of us (father and adult son). The two beds were very comfortable. There was also a desk and a corner couch. The room felt very big and comfortable. The staff were amazing. The day bartender (Tyler) was a super friendly and helpful person, who told us of places we needed to visit or go to eat. I would stay here again any time that we are in Portland.
- 4/5
Great hotel and comfortable room, with lovely staff. The location and street outside was a bit dodgy
- 5/5
Hotel was rustic and enjoyable. However city feels old and little unsafe if u r alone at night. July 4th was awesome! Great walking distance to farmers market and harbour areas. Oh food trucks next door or a block away to beer garden!
- 4/5
I wish there as a fridge in the room.
- 3/5
Hotel was nice. Unfortunately the hotel service is subpar. I selected a room which included a food/beverage credit. For some reason this did not show on the reservation. I contacted hotels.com and they reached out to the hotel to remedy the situation. The hotel refused to acknowledge the reservation and hotels.com ended up giving me credit toward my next stay as an alternative solution. Thank you hotels.com. Shame on you Marriott.
- 5/5
Nice and helpful staff. Beautiful accommodations.
- 5/5
The property is well kept and charming. The outside area is less than great but improving with time and regular use. Lots of grass from food cart boss in area and the homeless.
- 5/5
This property was an amazing experience. The staff there was excellent & provided me with recommendations to explore the city of Portland!! So much more!!
- 5/5
Big bed.
- 5/5
Nice hotel. Friendly staff. Nice location. Traveled with pet. Plenty of cheaper parking options available close by. Free street parking in front from 7pm-8am.
- 3/5
Not great
- 3/5
The room was great, nice view, super soft and comfy bed. My only issue was that the temperature on the thermostat was set to 73 and locked there. I asked 3 different times to have someone come up and change it lower to 69 to make my room more pleasant but after 3 visits there was no fix. I asked for a fan and that was a slight remedy but the noise it created didnt help create and ambiance. Why include a thermostat in the room if you wont allow the customer to set it to where it makes them feel comfortable?
- 5/5
It was great front desk was excellent will be staying again
- 5/5
10/10! Loved the entire place! Great customer service! The beds are so comfortable & the restroom is lovely✨️
- 5/5
Beautiful hotel, super clean with lovely staff and right downtown so easy walk to everything
- 5/5
The staff, especially Sam, was very accommodating and went above and beyond to help with our requests. The room was clean and quiet and tastefully decorated. Walking to food trucks was close. Parking across the street was available. Worth the price. Would stay here again.
- 5/5
Great distance to downtown! Super clean rooms!
- 5/5
Very friendly and helpful staff and manager. Beautifully designed to the detail including large rooms and lovely restaurant. Suggestion.. our room did not have a refrigerator that would be handy for drinks and leftovers
- 4/5
Over all this is a great place to stay. The biggest issue I ran into was you couldn’t make the room cooler than 67. Staff was great it was all very clean. Water pressure and heat of water was on point. Room was set up wonderfully. You will need to pay for parking no matter what, I chose the lot across the street and paid 24 hours at a time, a little cheaper than their valet parking but not locked up.

- 4/5
Nice hotel but not in a nice area. Service was excellent
- 5/5
Great atmosphere and decor. Very comfortable and the service was EXCELLENT!
- 4/5
Breakfast took long time and food quality was so-so. Only one waiter works during morning breakfast time. He was complaining to everyone and was very stressed. Not a pleasant experience for any customer to start the day.
- 5/5
Thank you
- 5/5
We really enjoyed our stay. Joesph at the front desk was friendly and was very helpful with directions to get to the Moda Center. The shower was nice and hot and the room was spacious. Plenty of room for the 3 of us. Would stay here again!
- 5/5
I really enjoyed my room here. The bed was very comfortable & the room was a good size. The lobby was cute & the bar was nice & convenient. The hotel was literally a 7-8 minute walk from everything- a great location. I wish the front desk would have informed us that we could request a mini fridge when we first arrived because we didn’t know until the next day & there was no mini fridge in the room. The restaurant staff seemed overwhelmed so we did not end up eating there.
- 5/5
This was my first time staying at The Hi-Lo Hotel - and I will surely be back! I was treated with respect from check-in to check-out. Wonderful, modern rooms, a great bar/restaurant, and great extras like the hotel gym. Keep up the wonderful work, everyone!
- 5/5
Great room for the price! Centrally located with a cool vibe. Rooms are clean and have contemporary feel. Would recommend
- 5/5
Staff was super friendly and helpful and nice comfortable beds
- 4/5
Located near the waterfront about 10 minute walk away but other than that without the homeless people in the area a lot to do for a Friday night
- 5/5
Awesome customer service
- 5/5
Parking lot was full and had to leave our car 2 blocks away. A lil Too spendy for valet parking, but overall nice hotel.
- 3/5
The location was not ideal. The better locations were about a mile away.
- 3/5
Beds and pillows were horrible, no sleep for a work trip. People were kind.
- 5/5
I have to say without a doubt the service was amazing. I got in late after a long crazy cold shift at work. The front desk staff were amazing. I hope to stay here again.
- 5/5
The lack of life around the property other than the ominous strip clubs was a bit of a downer. Other than that it is an excellent hotel.
- 5/5
Great room, food and service!
- 5/5
Quiet hotel in a convenient part of town. I was able to go everywhere I wanted in the downtown area by walking.
- 3/5
Definitely need to upgrade the mattress and pillows. Not the most comfortable to sleep on.
- 5/5
Quick checkin, friendly staff
- 5/5
Great Birthday trip!!! Hotel was great as was staff. Shout out to the bartender on shift Wednesday evening the 9th.

Great central downtown location near restaurants and coffee shops. Public parking directly across from the property

Full experience was excellent. Thanks Hi-Lo

Good place
- 5/5
Honestly the best hotel ive stayed at in ages
- 5/5
Great experience at this hotel. Lots of food/drinks within a few blocks. The free drink at the bar from 5-6 is a really nice touch too! Beautiful room. Has issues with heater in the room but a tech came up right away and fixed the issue. Will stay here again.
- 5/5
Cute trendy hotel- great restraunts attached!
- 5/5
Check in went great and staff was friendly. Biggest positive is parking across the street.
- 5/5
Great spot
- 4/5
Oddly warm rooms, bad room service, unsafe and dirty surroundings.
- 3/5
I payed extra for a food and drink credit. They didn’t have any record of it and had to show them a receipt to get it. On the receipt it didn’t show it so i had to rummage through my phone to find any evidence that i payed extra for it. It was a bit humiliating. I did finally get the credit but when i went to use it the restaurant for room service they didn’t answer n after the 3rd call they basically complained that they didn’t have enough employees working so id have around an hour if i wanted food. It didn’t actually take an hour for the food but it was weird that they sounded irritated that i ordered something.. lasting the room i picked on Expedia stated that it had a city view. My room had a frosted window that faced what looked like an AC unit. And a brick wall. I usually don’t leave bad reviews but i was definitely underwhelmed. I shouldn’t be made to feel like I’m burdening employees by simply requesting services that i payed for. Next time I’ll pay the extra 60 bucks and get a room around the corner at the nines.
- 5/5
Love the decor, amenities and friendly staff. Walkable to many great restaurants and a cool bar around the corner (Kelly’s Olympian).
- 5/5
Hotel is beautiful & the staff is incredible
- 5/5
The hotel was clean and convenient to our dinner cruise at the waterfront. The staff were friendly and very helpful.
- 5/5
Excellent place to stay, will be back! The staff are attentive and accommodating. I also felt extremely safe here at all hours of the day!
- 3/5
The bed in the ada room was very low, 14”. Should be raised to the standard 22”. The bed had a rug around the perimeter which does not work with any wheels. Should be removed. Front desk staff were sympathetic to the issue of the bed being the wrong height, and ultimately not working for my ability they also had a our hands are tied attitude, and we’re unable to make it right in the end. One of the staff used a number of towels, prop up the mattress, just enough to allow me to use it, but as a result, I only, used it once and was ain’t unable to have a shower. Otherwise I may have been stuck in bed with no clothes on and needing to ask staff to help me is not the standard for an ADA room too bad because it had a beautiful bathroom.
- 2/5
Loud music blasted from 2 am to 4:30 am. The whole building is vibrating with the bass. We cannot rest the whole night.
- 4/5
My only wish would have been to have a fridge in the room. Otherwise a very nice hotel, very clean and comfortable.
- 5/5
We were greeted beautifully and it was recognized that it was our anniversary! Very happy with our room--- gorgeous-- and with our stay.
- 5/5
Great place! Loved the food trucks close by!
- 5/5
Despite the surrounding area, I love the HiLo and continue to recommend it to others.

Great hotel
- 3/5
We stayed for five nights, our room got cleaned once only. Room service was not available on a few days. The staff at reception was nice. Valet parking was convenient and quick. There were a lot of homeless people on the streets close to the hotel.
- 5/5
Everyone was so nice at check in and throughout very accommodating
- 5/5
The property was a beautifully restored historical building, with a friendly staff, the greeted us with free bottle of wine and a smile. The room was comfortable with a clean interior.
- 4/5
The room was beautiful and the bathroom was very nice. Unfortunately, the bed and pillows were uncomfortable.
- 5/5
The room was nice. We able to dind parking Round thw corner that was only 10$ for the night. The hotel had a happy hour with a local spirit and delicious drink!
- 5/5
The property was great. Location is somewhat good if you stay in the city. The restaurant and bar are classy and drinks and food is really good
- 5/5
Staff were amazing and very friendly!!! Went above and beyond!! Rooms were very clean and immaculate. Great hot shower and bed!
- 5/5
Super friendly staff especially Gem, Berlin & Samantha. They made sure we are enjoying our stay and made sure all our requests was delivered. I would definitely recommend this hotel and how accommodating almost all the front desk employees.
- 5/5
They took a lot of the deposit I had to put down, and what was left was sent back weeks later.
- 4/5
There was however a lot of noise from the pop-up food trucks that were outside our window. They seemed to get into full swing around 12.00pm and didn’t stop with the loud music until 6.00am. Not ideal for a family, but great if you are in Portland to have a night out.
- 4/5
The rooms and common areas are attractive and comfortable.
- 5/5
Arrived to live music, sweet place to stay. Thank you!!!
- 5/5
The hotel is beautiful! So clean and inviting. Staff was amazing and very helpful and friendly. Very busy surrounds at night, but if you like that there is plenty of places in walking distance.
- 5/5
Everything was perfect! Amazing rooms and service

Great stay and great staff
