My stay at the KEX hotel was phenomenal, at first i wasn’t expecting the rr to be a shared bathroom on every floor but it wasn’t an issue at all. Staff was very helpful in many areas. There are many cool things this stay had to offer such as complimentary coffee and tea, a snazzy photobooth and even a restaurant within, truly had an amazing stay!

The beds were perfect size and quite comfortable, I’d recommend adding another pillow but either way I slept through the night. The comforter was thick and perfect to keep you warm thru the night. The storage below the beds contained plenty of space for all your belongings, didn’t know what to do with all of it. It’s a great space to get to know the others in the room and have a good time. Showers/Bathrooms were fantastic, the water heated up quickly so you didn't have to wait around or it to get warm and they provide shampoo, conditioner, body wash if you forgot yours. I did not try the amenities except the bar. Each night I indulged in beverages, the bartenders were amazing and provided amazing conversations thru the night. The last night I finally had a Cesar Salad and Steak, let me tell you that some of the best food I’ve had. That place is always busy at night with locals coming for drinks, highly recommend enjoying some drinks. Excellent hotel and staff, plus its centrally located in my opinion to allow easy access to everything around Portland.

I stayed in a 1 bed with shared bathrooms. The room was clean, the bathrooms were stocked with toiletries and were very clean, the staff were all helpful, and the bar downstairs was lively throughout my whole trip. I would stay here again and highly recommend.

The moment we stepped in we were greeted and had someone helping us check in. Everyone I saw at the desk was very helpful. Great location. Bus stops in both corners. Easy to get around from.

The check-in was great, I'd come on the train and was quite tired and Christian at the front desk had my bed all set. Giving great recommendations for local food around town all within a short distance including the great Pizzeria, a diner, and a local Brewery. My room was spotless as were the bathrooms were for great tile pattern on the floor. The bar area also had very old wood herringbone pattern on the floor a wonderful attentive staff and a fantastic happy hour. Oysters abounded

The over all aesthetics was amazing and comfortable. The hotel furnace system was loud. a constant humm.

I love the welcoming vibes of Kex. The lobby is luminous and a great place to relax during the day, and becomes animated with a great bar with delicious bites at night. Staff is super friendly and helpful. Bed is VERY comfortable and there are no chemical fragrances in the building. Windows open for some fresh air. The photo booth is a nice touch. Location is nice, close to buses and some cool thrifting. Windows do a good job of keeping the room quiet. The shower pressure isn't the best, but it is sufficient. While opening the windows is a nice feature sometimes there will be people smoking right underneath which is a bummer. I love this hotel but what I don't understand is why the chair in the room is the wrong fit for both the table and the desk! I wish I could work in my room but it's just not really possible.

This is a hostel with private rooms. I might have missed that while booking, but don’t think it was clearly labeled. It’s a nice place and good location if you’re going to the convention or Moda center, but just know what you’re booking.

Great hotel in Portland. It was perfect for our family of 5. We had a room with two bunk beds and one queen. We had our own bathroom. Comfortable beds and linens. Parking was easy. We found a spot right across the street. The hotel was clean and not cookie cutter which we loved. The bar downstairs was so cool. Great cocktails and music. Helpful staff. Would recommend.

KEX Portland is one of those hotels where you come back to time and time again when you visit this amazing city. It truly feels like a home away from home, and you just want to be here when you’re not busy running around town. It feels like home, so why not stop in for a drink or bite to eat, and stay awhile. I guarantee, you’re gonna love it.

Amazing hotel and the decor tells you a story you’ll never forget in a Portland hotel. Swanky night spot for your viewing plesure, and the late night succulent craving, the food menu isn’t the shabby either with clams from the PNW, to trout from the Columbia and the Tuna from the Pacific blue.!

The hotel is spotless! It is a very nice booty hotel in the rooms are very unique. It has a great bar at the bottom and the staff is absolutely positively friendly courteous and just nice. The only thing is that they do have communal bathrooms just so that you are aware

The Burnside area is kind of a dump but this place was an oasis. The family room is awesome for a large family or groups of friends.

Fun and funky vibes. The bar downstairs has great snacky foods. The rooms are clean and the majorly separated bathrooms is pleasant when with others. I adore this hotel and have stayed many times over the years. Parking is a nightmare amongst itself so prepare yourself for that and the walk that will come with it if driving here yourself. That’s not something the hotel has anything to do with though. Lots of scooters to ride around the town readily available on the hotels block.

Check in could have been better. We arrived at 4pm check-in was at 3 and front desk said our room was not ready…they went and checked with house keeping and and said our room was ready. Super confusing! We went to our room and the heater wasn’t working. I went down to the front desk and their first response is that they were supposed to fix it. They called their boss about it and then proceeded to ask me when is a good time to meet with me in the next hour. This is New Year’s Eve mind you. I said for what? They said they’d like to talk to me about an exchange. I said what exchange. I ended up calling my wife who was still in the room and she said the heater kicked on. Anyways, the hospitality piece is missing and the linens were dirty. I don’t think I’d stay here again.

From the moment I walked in the experience was horrific. I was standing at the front talking to the front desk guy and another guest walks behind me and grazes my butt with the back of his hand as he walks by when there was plenty of room on the other side of him. I said to him excuse me sir you just touched my ass you need to watch yourself. His first response was that it was his backpack straps (which it wasn’t because they were behind him) then he starts going off saying how he would never do that because I was ugly anyways etc. Meanwhile I realize I’m dealing with an absolute psychopath so I just stay quiet. He starts complaining to the front deak guy and the front desk guy apologized to him!?? Like WHAT!? The ventilation system blows in air that smells like fried food to the room. There is ZERO lighting just a dim yellow we couldn’t even properly get ready. The girl at check out said she was gonna email my reciept, she didn’t. I had to call later on and some guy said he needed a manager to send me the receipt. I said well that girl in the am was not a manager and she said she was gonna send it so then he asks for my email because there’s apparently no email on file and sends it! I asked him if he was a manager and he said no, I asked so how could you send it based on what you JUST said 2 mins ago. So twice two workers lied to me. The only good thing was the beds were cozy and the margs were 10/10 at the bar. The towels smelled like old bodily fluids to put it nicely.

I liked that there is a bike storage area, though you need to be able to lift your bike above your head to hang it on the hook. They did seem short-staffed, though I think that’s true for most hotels these days. Everyone who was there was really kind and helpful.

KEX is a very clean, no frills hotel/hostel in Portland with a fantastic lobby and bar. The food was inventive, fresh and tasty. Good cocktails, and even better service....just enough attention to get what I wanted and plenty of space to just enjoy the scene.

I tried to store my valuables in my assigned security drawer, but it was blocked by another set of bunks. I didn't even deal with this nonsense in the military, which should say something to these people. Get it together, kids.

The staff were very inconsistent with my stay. I had a one bedroom and in a day was moved to a bunk room of four for no reason. So I went from 314 to 313 and had to pay fee after fee. Even though I was still the same resident from Tues through friday. They are not consistent, made me move rooms and made it apparent I’d have to leave my luggage with them before checkin. This had not occurred since I stayed at the hotel.

I liked the staff. I wish it was consistent with my extending of my stay. It was different at the end from the beginning.

Rooms were fine but bathrooms down the hall was more uncomfortable than expected. The doors were very heavy and locked behind you. Bathrooms were single stall and only 3 for an entire floor. No place to put toiletries. No robes. If you forgot your towel you were out of luck. Not super comfortable.

I love staying here, it's affordable and the beds are comfy. I omly wish the bathroom had a fan (to vent out steam and smells), and some of the bunks didn't have their storage drawer blocked off.

We loved KEX Portland! Such a unique spot with beautiful retro decor. The front desk guy Jermaine was awesome, so friendly and helpful. Walkable to restaurants and breweries. Would def stay again!

This was my second stay at KEX, why look further? It's entire vibe is chill and inviting. Love meeting friends for dinner/drinks downstairs. Every room type to suit a variety of stays/price points. I look forward to my next stay.

I would have totally understood the ban, except I DO NOT SMOKE CIGARETTES. I don’t know what kind of of tom foolery you have going on, but this ruined a big part of my 40th birthday celebration. I will be getting my attorney on this and make things right. I can’t believe this happened. Maybe one of your employees smoked during their break or something, but as I stated before, I DO NOT SMOKE. They also didn’t call or email me, so I show up to this. You made a mistake and will have reprocussions. Ooooh boy you’re going to be paying. I will happily take every dollar you have and find much joy in it.

World-class cocktail bar on the main level: Pacific Standard, was the reason I booked and a wonderful place to end the evenings. KEX offered free drip coffee there in the morning as well, so it’s where my days began as well. Location is next to lots of dining and a few James Beard winners. Daily runs over the Burnside Bridge to the waterfront makes it a perfect stay.

Very clean and a restorative sauna.

They have free coffee until 11am which was nice, and a bar that's open until midnight. I came during a pretty severe heatwave (40° C or over 100°F). The AC was great and the bar was always willing to fill my water bottle with ice water. Front desk staff were also extremely helpful and this is honestly the best hostel experience I've had so far as a solo traveller.

I loved the atmosphere. The lounge restaurant bar is utterly charming. Everyone was kind and upbeat. One hook would make a big difference! Oh and the head board repurposed from a classic craftsman fireplace mantle was brilliant.

This was a very nice hostel and I felt very safe. I stayed in 4 person bunk room with all women and it was very nice! The doors can only be opened with a keycard for that room. The sheets and bed were very clean and comfortable. I slept in the bottom bunk that had a little curtain which made me feel like I had my own little space. The bathroom was down the hall and was very clean.

Lovely boutique style hostel. Great bang for your buck. Parking was difficult in the sense that nobody was quite sure of the rules of the area. We found amd paid for overnight parking nearby.

Really enjoyed my stay! Everything you need in a stay away from home. Loved the interior decor and the service was excellent. Everyone was extremely friendly, the bar was on point, and my roomies were awesome! As a woman I felt safe and cared for. Will definitely be back!

Charged extra fee upon arrival. The female I shared the room with snored all night. Went down to lobby to change room, no solution was provided. Not sure how the hotel would address this issue. If you have sleep apnea/chronic snoring, get a CPAP machine! Completely disrespectful to the people you know you will sharing a room with. Hotel could ask this when booking. Worst sleep of my life and should have booked a room at a higher rate.

KEX was an awesome place to stay! The sauna was great and the lobby restaurant, Pacific Standard, was super impressive. Gorgeous lobby/restaurant! The staff were super nice and accommodating.

My first stay here was the night of October 18-19, 2024. Since the location was convenient in Downtown Portland, I reserved a room for a second time for the night of May 23-24, 2025. I showed up on May 23 with my ID but no credit card. They could not allow me to stay without my credit card, nor would they offer me a refund, so I had to sleep in my car that night without getting my money back. Their general manager told me that too long a time had passed by May 26 for me to receive a refund. I didn't see her message on Expedia because I was in Portland for the Memorial Day weekend and otherwise had no access to Wi-Fi to see her message. Regardless, they also offered me a discounted future stay, but refused to answer further when I inquired about it. It's bad enough that this is how they would treat a returning customer. But refusing a refund, forcing me to sleep on the streets, and failing to honor a commitment to a discounted future stay are all extremely dishonest and shady business practices. I am posting this so potential travelers won't experience the same thievery from KEX Portland that I did.

This was very nice, staff are very friendly and professional.

Great hotel to stay at and really nice setup. No onsite parking so you have to pay at a nearby parking garage, but otherwise a wonderful setup.

Overall my stay was really good. The only issue i could think was the second floor rooms get a lot of noise from the street, busses, and the trash pickup. I wish my room came with ear plugs.

Ask the front desk for parking options, they’ll give you a printed sheet with great, low-cost options. Loved our stay. Don’t let the shared bathrooms for double rooms scare you away, it was clean and easy! Would stay here again and I’ll recommend it to others.

The only con is the parking…there isn’t a designated parking lot for the hotel and most of the time i had to circle around to find a spot. However the staff up front are more than knowledgeable about when and where ti park. (The website more than likely shares about the parking,I just don’t recall)

Really enjoyed staying here! Was my first time in a hostel and I honestly felt totally safe. The rooms were nice and clean and the staff were friendly. They provided water, towels, soap, and earplugs and plenty of storage underneath the bunks. There's space for a padlock for each storage drawer.

Property as well located, the individual rooms are fairly small, but certainly better than a shared bathroom in my opinion. Really enjoy the staff except for the front desk guy in the evening. There are two parking spaces in front of the hotel and we were parked in one just having a conversation as I was being dropped off. No one ever entered the space behind us. He walked out and exclaimed that we needed to move because we had been there for more than 15 minutes, and the bar was requesting our car to be moved. It was laughable that in someway, we were inconveniencing anything. For a pretty hip place, that was not a live and let live approach. Other than that, I enjoyed the stay

I was staying overnight after getting in on a late flight from Chicago. Emails communication was clear and succinct. Getting there via rideshare from the airport was easy enough. Check in was seamless. The pillow and mattress were both very comfortable. They provided earplugs because they were cognizant of the late-night noises of the area. There were carafes of water with glasses provided in the room as well. Shared bathrooms were very clean and hygienic. And check out was also straightforward. Very pleasant experience, I would definitely stay here again if I needed an overnight spot and would happily recommend it to others.

Great mattress and pillows, we slept so much better than some other hotels/hostels. Also the room was clean and had refillable toiletries. It was the first opening of the rooftop bar, and we spent a little time up there, but there was no noise on the third floor! Quirky but cozy furnishings. I would definitely stay here again.

The people at front desk were very nice and helpful. I loved the downstairs lobby/bar restaurant atmosphere as well. I utilized the workout room, and while it was functional I might try to dress it up a little bit. It might be nice to have some maps of Portland around too, so perhaps different neighborhoods can be circled/recommended?

I was in the large room with too many bunk beds for three nights. First night was rough with so many folks hacking, sneezing and coughing all night long. But most left by the second night, and had place to myself on night three. Front desk and cleaning folks were awesome, and hope to return in the future.

It was very clean, bed was comfortable, and conveniently located. I loved the bar downstairs, and the rooms came with water. I never had to wait for a bathroom and the bathrooms were super clean. Staff were amazing and I would absolutely stay again.

KEX is a great, central location and in a safe neighborhood. I was traveling solo for work and felt very comfortable. The hotel has a great restaurant/bar, sauna, and price options for all budget types. The hotel has a deal with Knot Springs, 1 block away, which I took advantage of.

Staff was friendly and helpful anytime I needed. Nice decor and comfortable accommodations, clean and safe inside.

We loved our stay! The room was very homey and comfortable, the atmosphere was very nice and welcoming. The front counter host, Mikey (not sure how to spell it) was very friendly and helpful and even gave us a complimentary upgrade to our room upon arrival!

This place is gorgeous. The rooms I will say are a bit small. BUT. The bathroom is pretty big. The beds were comfortable and clean. The restaurant downstairs was so good as well. Stay here for the vibe and the service

I was very impressed with KEX Portland! I booked a private queen room with a friend for a night, and we both loved it. The shared bathrooms were spotless and I had no hesitations using them. The staff were incredibly friendly and kind (and the food was delicious!!), and the decor was so cute. My expectations were exceeded- for the price point, KEX can't be beat. I'll be back in the future for sure.

We really enjoyed the KEX, but the room we had was quite small (and we had an en-suite bathroom which not all rooms have). Other than that, the location was excellent, the staff were friendly, and it was very walk-able. Great neighborhood to stay in and a short walk from downtown Portland.

This hotel has a great vibe. Everyone was friendly and helpful, and I loved the unique refurbished decorative elements. I stayed here with a group of teenaged girls, and the family room was perfect.

Beds were very comfortable. Rooms clean. The block the hotel is on feels pretty safe. Venturing only a few blocks away made me feel very uncomfortable

I've lived in Portland for 12 years, and now when I visit (having tried a dozen hotels here) this is the only place I'll stay. It's comfortable, has an old-world charm, and the staff is terrific.

Great staff. Cool spot and loved the esthetics. Only problem is there was no fridge in my room and also every 30 mins a weird loud noise would rattle the whole room.

Very easy location for walking and taking transit. There was a massive pile of poop on the sidewalk right outside the hotel, which was probably not the ambiance you’re going for. I did appreciate the lobby bar was inviting and lively (unfortunately, we did not have a chance to enjoy any drinks during our stay). I liked the onsite gym, and LOVED the sauna. The coffee and tea selection was also very nice, and the lobby is so warmly furnished and decorated. The shower in our en suite private room was unexpectedly great (with the knobs and soap on the opposite side from the shower head), I would definitely like that setup in my own home. I thought the toiletries were a bit too fragrant. The hair dryer was awesome, and I want one for myself.
