Reviews
Guests consistently praise the cleanliness, beauty, and calm environment of the hotel, as well as the professional, friendly, and attentive staff. The pool area, short golf course, and valet parking are frequently mentioned as highlights. However, some guests have noted issues with slow service by the pool and expensive restaurant prices.

I was greeted with an open door at Mountain shadows and wow what a beautiful resort. The staff is exceptional and a special things to Eli who took the time to find me an amazing room. I couldn’t believe it. I was stunned. I gave him 12 stars for customer service. The sunset pool is delicious and the restaurant serves wonderful food. I couldn’t be happier. It will definitely be back. The short course was super fun even though I haven’t golfed in years. It was really good. I’ll be back in the fall. Cheers, Mitch.

Everything was amazing. Just missed the retro pictures that were in the elevators
- 3/5
The shower was all glass and in the middle of the room. Very odd
- 5/5
Beautiful resort. Wonderful amenities and staff was very attentive at all times. All 3 pools were kept sparkling clean and service was impeccable. Food (breakfast) was reasonably priced and very good.
- 5/5
Everything was spectacular.
- 5/5
This is a unique retro modern boutique resort. Had a cool vibe and nice amenities. The restaurant on the property was very good both for breakfast and dinner. We rented a deluxe cabana for the day, which I highly recommend for some shade and privacy. Short stay for us, but worth it.
- 5/5
Love the big rooms. Spacious. Good location. Beautiful property
- 5/5

Loved rhe property! Enjoyed golf and the pool. Wish they had green tea available in the morning
- 5/5
My friends and I really enjoyed this boutique hotel/resort. The rooms are immaculate, the staff is friendly and attentive. The food is also great. I already booked my next stay here and can’t wait to return.
- 5/5
Staff really friendly , breakfast very good !
- 5/5
This is a great resort with very nice rooms, two great pools and stunning views of Camelback and Mummy mountains. The staff was also very cordial and super helpful. Our first time at Mountain Shadows and we loved it.
- 5/5
Everything was beautiful and well maintained Shana at the pool was very helpful. She was very delightful and super sweet. The tall front desk lady was very nice and helpful and accommodating as well for my daughter‘s birthday trip. The pools were beautiful and the food was delicious.
- 4/5
Expect all on property dining to be $$, Hearth restaurant was good. The golf course was nice and the golf staff were excellent. Pool furniture and lounge areas are dated and should be power washed. There was a commercial being filmed while we were there which was inconvenient— all around I’d say it was inconsistent, which surprised us.
- 5/5
Awesome friendly staff, nice pool and superb breakfast!
- 5/5
Very chic hotel. Clean and roomy. Nice facility. Food r good at restaurant. We loved it.

Fantastic property. Looks immaculate. They do charge a resort fee, but it has some nice perks like morning coffee, instructor led workout classes and valet parking. On our last day we requested a late checkout and they were super accommodating. I would return here.
- 5/5
Amazing from check in to check out
- 5/5
The room was clean and comfortable. We ate breakfast at Hearth 61 and the food was really good.
- 5/5
Lots of delicious food options. Couple pools to choose from including an adults only. Staff and service were attentive & friendly. Tons on in room options. Comfortable bed & pillows. Very close to camelback mountain to go hike/walk.

- 5/5
Incredible location. Beautiful views. Didn’t eat much of the food after first breakfast egg with runny white, but would absolutely return to the resort.
- 5/5
It was great as always!
- 5/5
Their breakfast is amazing with reasonable price. We will definitely come back for it. Their golf course is also suitable for family. My 8 year old daughter really enjoyed playing the short course. Staff members are courteous and genuinely kind. Room decor is modern and cozy, excellent as a first timer to visit Scottsdale.
- 5/5
Fantastic hotel, great views, great restaurant, food and drinks, attentive staff, great executive golf course - the only thing missing is a spa.
- 5/5
Having breakfast at the foot of Camelback is my idea of heaven
- 5/5

Perfect for a couples getaway! The pool and poolside service is fantastic. Everything is very accessible and the views are stunning! Loved every aspect of our stay!
- 5/5
This was an AMAZING place for a couple's getaway. Truly could not have asked for a better place at the price. Thank you!
- 5/5
Lovely facility and attentive staff
- 5/5
Hotel was great with stunning vistas.
- 5/5
Paradise Valley is beautiful and Mountain Shadows has a wonderful sunset deck and view of Camelback mountain. Great location for hikers and near Old Town Scottsdale for dining and shopping. The main pool is great and provides a wonderful view of Camelback. Our only complaint was minor, the ice machine was outside our room and very noisy. I would recommend making sure you get a room with a balcony. We had an awesome stay!
- 5/5
Amazing property and amenities! Cannot wait to come back! This property is locally owned and will work with you if you book on Expedia where many others won’t. We upgraded our room with no charge and added a night at the same rate we were charged through Expedia. This is usually unheard of. Great place! Will be back!!
- 2/5
Terrible experience. Our first night of sleep was destroyed by a party that started in the room next door with 20+ people at 10:30 pm. After multiple calls to the front desk (by us and other guests) and several attempts by security, the situation was finally resolved several hours later. The second night, we were woken up in the middle of the night by a loud barking dog. For the price of this resort, they should have a much better handle on disruptions to guests’ sleep. I discussed our horrible experience with a manager and was given a very small discount. Super frustrating. Would not recommend staying here.
- 5/5
This is my second time staying there and love it, I like the pool hours and the destination of the hotel.
- 5/5
This was our 2nd stay at this property and we loved it. Lara at check in was great ! Offered me some Expedia upgrades, which was great. Room was updated and clean with a great view of the pool and a soaking tub. Everyone at the pool was so friendly and nice. My husband is a bit of a picky eater and they were very helpful getting him something to eat everyday at the pool. Shout out to Kevin and Sharon for sure! Top notch :) Also make sure you find the Sunset Pool over by Rusty's.. adults only and once the sun goes behind the building at the main pool you can go there and watch the sunset. Can't get any closer to Camelback Mountain unless you are climbing it!!
- 5/5
Truly special resort, high end and great staff. Clean and well-maintained. Fun golf course and great pools. Food is top notch too! Worth every penny to stay here
- 5/5
I really enjoyed my stay. Rooms were nice hot tub and pool was huge. Dusty's food was delicious. And I cant' remember the security guards name but he was sooo nice. 10/10 We will be back with the kids next time around.

We really enjoyed our time at Mountain Shadows Resort and would come back again. We booked a double Queen premium room with a pool facing balcony. The room felt modern and the windows were a beautiful design feature. The location of our room within the property was perfect. The rooms were clean and well appointed, but we missed having a fridge in the room and there were no ice machines available in the building. I understand resorts aren’t DIY friendly and are meant to be more full service, but a fridge is a minimum amenity, in my opinion, and there was plenty of room for one. The patio overlooking the pool was great (the resort was very quiet and other guests were respectful!) but a second lounge chair on the balcony would have been appreciated. The bathroom set up for this room included an open vanity/sink area and a toilet room and shower enclosed in frosted glass. Privacy wasn’t a concern for me, since I was staying with my spouse, but for a family of four or a ladies weekend etc, one might feel uncomfortably exposed to have just a thin glass door separating the shower and toilet from the rest of the room. We did not eat or drink at any of the bars or food venues at the resort. Parking in/out was easy and we found a spot every time we left and returned. Regardless of a few room design shortfalls, we loved the resort, the staff and the location. If you visit, be sure to check the secret sunset pool and tour the lobby art gallery. Wonderful stay!

Pool was nice although a chilly day. Lots of children at the main pool. Gym new equipment but not very large. Good clas schedule including reformer Pilates, but we didn’t try classes. The main bar (left of entrance) was quite disappointing. Waited a long time and finally had to ask if we could order a drink despite several people working. Very grumpy bartender dude (to everyone, not just me.) Drinks sub par, especially for 4.5 star place. Chunks of ice ;not slivers) in martini as an example.

We loved the Mountain Shadows Resort and would definitely stay there again. The room was very clean and spacious, the restaurant was excellent and the property is very pretty. The daily fruited water in the lobby is also a nice touch. My only request would be some kind of coffee bar in the lobby in the mornings for a quick grab and go snack and coffee drink to go back to the room or out for a walk.

We ended up having a great stay. If you are there on the weekend and DONT want to stay up until 11 make sure they don’t give you a room near the restaurant area. The first night was a rough one, our kids are little and we couldn’t sleep until they stopped playing at 11pm. The next day we asked to move rooms and they happily accommodated and gave us a little upgrade as well. Enjoyed the pool the rest of our stay and room was clean and comfortable. Wish there was some kind of coffee shop in the lobby for quick to-go options though as I was usually off in a rush in the morning. But it’s a nice quiet spot in paradise valley overall. Also enjoyed the EV chargers. Would stay again.

I cannot say enough good things about this hotel. I would stay here before the 4Seasons any day of the week. The Michelin restaurant served perfect meals for breakfast lunch and dinner. The staff were above and beyond friendly and helpful. The rooms were spotless and cleaned meticulously daily. (We stayed for 4 nights). The pool was lovely and heated and we enjoyed both the regular pool and the adult pool. The stunning view of camelback mountains right off of our patio was an added bonus.

The restaurant and food was excellent. I paid for a premium king room. Got a not-premium room at very back of hotel overlooking service corridor. The AC didn't work at all - was 97-100 during the day. Should have gotten some VIP benefits (discounted resort fee, etc) but never got those. Would not book this hotel again.

Beautiful property. The lobby and restaurant, Hearth '61 was very classy. Getting to the hotel from the airport was seamless. The property is very clean and well maintained. We stayed in the Studio Suite that had an open concept with a full kitchen with a view of the pool area. The check-in was super easy and the room had perks that came with it. The fitness area was clean and offered everything you would need for a good workout. We were celebrating my wife's 50th birthday and worked with Isabella, one of the concierges and she was phenomenal. She set everything up including champagne and flowers for the room to make my wife's entrance very memorable.

Awesome stay
- 5/5
We were so grateful the front desk allowed us to check in early so we could start enjoying the amenities. We headed straight for the pool where we stayed for the afternoon. We ordered food pool side, the club sandwich and French fries were delicious! We also had a few drinks before we headed in to get ready for dinner. We ended up eating dinner at Hearth 61, the onsite restaurant. The ambiance, food, and service were great, although it did take a bit to get our drinks. We also paid for late check out so we had time to get breakfast at the bar at Hearth 61 and go enjoy the pool for a few hours before we left. Overall, very satisfied with our stay and would highly recommend it to my friends and family

It's a beautiful, serene property with all the amenities one might want. The architecture is sleek and modern but pays homage to the original resort built in the '30s. The restaurant and bar are top notch. The food is exceptional. Most importantly, the staff are about as nice as they come and seemed to sense my needs in advance. Even when I checked out the valet recognized me while I was walking to the front desk and pulled my car up front without me even handing him the ticket. That was par for the whole stay. Kudos to your tea.

Beautiful resort! Room was large, clean, comfortable , and in great shape! Dinner in the on site restaurant was amazing. Staff was very helpful and personable!

Great service, really enjoyed our stay - also pancakes and waffles:)

We live 3 miles away but it felt like we were on vacation. Great way to spend a hot summer night. Through hotels.com we got 2 free drinks, a $20 resort credit and the price included the resort fee (although you pay it at the resort) so your actual charge from hotels.com is less.

The dinner on property was absolutely delicious as was brunch the following morning. Our only complaint was the pool was green, truly unpleasant to look at and extremely disappointing considering it was 105 degrees and all we wanted to do was be in the water. We would expect a property as nice as this one would have maintenance on this immediately but it was green again the following morning. It did not ruin our stay, but did share with the pool attendants who stated it was the storm the night before which didn’t make sense as we are locals and our pools are blue/same storm then we shared at checkout and were told the decking causes a green glare? There’s clearly an issue that needs to be resolved.

The property is excellent, my only disappointment is that the hotel just has a few rooms with no balcony, that is the one that they gave to me.
- 5/5
Nice beautiful property nice rooms, nice views beautiful pool area very nice workout room and sauna great restaurant and it’s in a good area not too far from whatever you’re looking for as far as food and shopping. I will definitely be back. The only thing that I didn’t like was the fact that I bought a hotel on Expedia that was VIP and I didn’t get none of the VIP parks at the hotel that was supposed to be $20 a day for the room for whatever and two drink drinks at the bar for each person each day and I got none of those but other than that great stay

Absolutely amazing service every time we come to Mountain Shadows, all staff goes above and beyond, from the valet, to the front desk, bartenders and cleaning staff. Pools have great views and great food menu on the weekends.

Super comfortable, great food and quiet place

I love everything, definitely coming back

The staff and service was amazing. Cleanliness superb, couple of dining options available & bottled water to stay hydrated always offered & readily available. This resort does offer massages but does not have a spa. The price is not worth it for a massage only. I went to The Phoenician Spa for a massage instead and had so much more available to me for the same price. Access to spa tubs, suanas, showers, relaxation beds, water & snacks, rooftop pool, etc. until closing. If Mountain Shadows added a spa onto their resort, definitely would be a 5 for me on amenities.

Upscale place to stay

The bedroom setup was amazing!
- 5/5
The entire hotel is beautiful and the views are wonderful. There are a lot of amenities included in your resort fee including multiple pools, a gym and free daily classes. We don’t golf but the course looked well kept.

Mountain shadows, the ultimate resort. I booked the studio suite, which was a 1000 sq. Foot. Lots of room, really upscale all around right down to the motorized blinds. The views , straight out of a magazine.

Great stay! Awesome staff
- 5/5
Amazing place! Amazing people!
- 4/5
The pools were nice and conveniently located. The aqua cardio class was nice. I wish there had been more aqua fitness and yoga offerings during our stay - not just one. The room had an odd 3-sided glass shower which could be covered with a curtain. Although valet parking was offered, self-parking was simple.

Lovely property and enjoyed our stay there!

Rooms were much nicer than anticipated. Pool was great.

The resort was well maintained and beautiful

I enjoyed the staff and our room it was perfect. I hope to return again next time I am in Arizona!

Superb
- 5/5
Very clean resort and attentive/kind staff. Bed was much firmer than I prefer and the resort food was average. The food also seemed expensive. I’m sure it’s a little overpriced due to convenience. For example my husband and I spent $100 for breakfast which included 2 glass of OJ, 1 cocktail, and 2 entrees
- 5/5
Customer service was amazing from arrival to check out. Pool staff kept checking in restaurant staff was super friendly and attentive. Rooms were so clean. I pull certainly stay here again. The only item I would mention is to possibly have staff advise at the time the bill comes for food and drinks that gratuity is already included as we double tipped twice but again service was amazing so we did not take it back.

What a wonderful stay! The bartenders were skilled, the receptionists were kind, and Trevor hosted a great full body workout. The complimentary coffee at Rusty’s was also a highlight. Book this hotel for your next couple’s trip!

This resort surprised me! We did a staycation- 2 rooms- 4 adults and 3 kids. Location was amazing from ambience, cleanliness, quality of food, staff, valet and pool! Highly recommended! Ps- its quiet and away from tourists and they have a Michelin 2024 restaurant!
- 5/5
Great property. Excellent views!
- 5/5
Super cute resort. Love the art gallery vibes and how they incorporated lots of history and pictures of the Original Mountain Shadow Resort into their decorative atmosphere. Rooms are spacious, clean, and very modern. The balcony and mountain view are a nice bonus. :)

Very good
- 5/5
The room service was a standout. The smoked salmon breakfast was inspired and delicious. The interior design has durable, high quality finishes so it felt really special. It’s concrete construction, so it was very quiet. The room had really high ceilings that made it feel like a light filled loft.

10/10 highly recommend for solo travelers.

Beautiful resort!!
- 5/5
Stayed here for the second time and the service is as Amazing as my previous trip
- 4/5
Everything was wonderful, except location of the room. It was just above apart of the AC system that made a constance hum. But I figure that's why the rate for the room was only $148. Next time I would upgrade.
- 5/5
This property is amazing! Great customer service as soon as you walk through the door. Would definitely recommend to all my friends and family
- 5/5
It was quiet, clean, friendly staff.
- 5/5
It’s my 4th time staying at Mountain Shadow resort and I keep coming back. I love how clean, modern, and beautiful the property is. Can’t wait to play golf there one of these days.
- 3/5
It was a nice property, but the room was inconvenient because it was next to a staff room and a supply room. It was hard to open the windows without having staff walk by with a clear view into the room.
- 5/5
It was absolutely amazing!
- 5/5
Beautiful. Will stay again. Not loud and not full of tourist. Food and drinks are good. Tv you can connect your own streaming apps, live saxophone on the weekend, beautiful views, easy access to Scottsdale and surrounding places, and very accommodating. All around a great stay!!
- 5/5
Awesome property. Clean guestrooms!
- 5/5
This hotel was perfect for my weekend getaway for some R&R. Great rate too. Would recommend 100%!
- 4.5/5
The staff were well trained and accommodating. The architectural design was a beautiful modern version of the hotel’s 1960s heyday. Breakfast excellent. Beds and pillow amazing! The fires outside at night by pool didn’t work. And the white fence by pool should be redesigned to be decorative as befits the rest of the hotel.

Final receipt showed a private bar charge for over $60 and we did not use the mini bar, or any of the resort’s restaurants.
- 5/5
Beautiful room, amazing landscaping and views. The staff was fantastic, helpful, friendly, and exceptional service

We chose this hotel based on the size (a little smaller than the larger chains) and location. We went primarily to relax and golf. The service was top notch everywhere in the hotel. It was very clean, bright and easy to get around. The pool was very comfortable and relaxing. The view of Camelback Mountain was a bonus! Our room faced the mountain and into the courtyard, so not only was it beautiful it was quiet. I personally wouldn't have wanted a room facing the pool. The room was spacious and very clean. I liked having the safe and coffee maker in there to use. The bed was very comfortable. We really enjoyed our breakfast every morning at Hearth 61. There was a lot of variety and everything we had was absolutely delicious. The wait staff were amazing. We had wanted to try breakfast at Rusty's one day but kept being pulled back to the Hearth. If we go again I would try to get a package that included breakfast as it could get a little pricey. However, it was well worth the $$. I enjoy going to the gym most days and I really liked their facility. It had a wide variety of cardio and resistance equipment, including a large room where they offer classes. I didn't take a class, but used the room for my own workout and I also used their spin bikes in there. There were a few weddings & conferences over the course of our week, but it didn't bother us with regards to number of people or noise. Mind we, we were gone golfing most days. We played the Short Course (par 3) at Mountain Shadows and thoroughly enjoyed it. So much so, we played 36 holes there one day. We had rented a car and were able to park it in their lot for free. The golf courses we played were all within 10-20 minutes away. There were also a number of great restaurants within 5-10 minutes. We would definitely consider returning here if we come back to Phoenix. As indicated in other reviews, the shower is situated right in the room. It has curtains that go around it but it's not something you'd expect to see right there. My biggest concern was running into it on the way to the bathroom at night when it was dark. The ceilings were also interesting as they were just concrete and looked unfinished. Initally I thought we got a room that had been getting some work done on the ceiling. After reading other reviews I see that's the way they designed it. I thought it was strange and not appealing to me. I used the fridge to keep some drinks and snacks we'd purchased but I had to remove what was already in there (for purchase to the resort). It would've been nice to have an empty fridge to use.

pool area and food and proximity to hiking a lot of weddings and events
- 5/5
The room and hotel were beautiful. We REALLY enjoyed the live music at the bar on weekend evenings- all of the musicians were so talented! Loved the water refill stations, the cocktails at the bar (and Thomas, the bartender) were amazing (we loved the AZ Tea and the Berry Drop). The pool was not overly crowded and the temperature of the water was perfect! The short course was beautiful and well worth the tee time. Our room wasn't stocked with enough towels or coffee for the number of people we had booked, and when we called to ask for more sometimes there was no answer. I also did not love the shower curtain situation- felt a little like a hospital room with the white curtain. It would definitely have been better if we weren't sharing a room.
- 4.5/5
parking, restaurant, mountain view pool not really impressive
