The rooms were extremely quiet and very roomy. We were very satisfied with our stay. We would stay there agin.
- 4/5
Nice hotel with good amenities and breakfast.
- 3/5
The internet was not good. Air conditioner very loud. And staff not helpful.
- 5/5
An older hotel in a prime location in Palo Alto . Recently remodeled and the room is quite a bit bigger than I expected . Room is clean and have all the basic needs. Even has a patio in the back to relax !! Hot Breakfast is included but nothing fancy & very limited. The lady in charge watch everything closely. Keep food supply going & clean up immediately if anybody makes a mess !! Have sign stating taking food back to room is NOT ALLOW !! Plenty of parking for free with 6 covered spots !!! For budget traveler like myself, this is my kind of accommodation !
- 4/5
The room was clean, housekeeping was efficient. Breakfast had a variety of hot items including oatmeal and waffles, baked goods, coffee, tea and juices. The amenities were good for a three star hotel. The only setback was the wi fi which was weak and cut off intermittently.
- 4/5
Good location, close to Stanford Medical center and has Walgreens across the street. Short drive to food options. Clean rooms. The bed was GREAT ! Breakfast was standard fare. I’d stay here again.
- 4/5
Well-kept property. Very quiet and spacious room. Nothing fancy, but it worked for us to spend a night to catch a sleep.
- 4/5
Breakfast was good. Room is fairly clean.
- 5/5
Very comfortable The walls are a bit thin. TV and conversations from the next room can be heard clear.
- 5/5
No particular comments. Overall a satisfactory stay.
- 5/5
We had a very pleasant stay in a quiet neighborhood with stores and restaurants nearby.
- 4.5/5
Comfortable and pleasant, restful
- 5/5
Room, staff, amenities, and location were excellent. No complaints about anything really. Enjoyed the complimentary breakfast a lot, way nicer than resorts I’ve been too honestly. Will definitely be coming back if ever in the area. Thank you!
- 4/5
Overall it was an excellent stay. The items we noticed that might need attention included a slow draining sink and the shower leaked considerably into the bathroom area. Otherwise, it was great! Thank you!
- 4.5/5
The breakfast was really good!
- 5/5
Best place to say love the staff and the place!!!
- 5/5
Best place in to stay love the staff
- 5/5
Moderately priced. Simple and clean. Staff were pleasant and helpful. Breakfast was fresh and nutritional
- 5/5
Exceptional experience. The hotel is clean. The suite is spacious. Each of my family members was amazed.
- 3.5/5
Good

Superb
- 5/5
Really nice hotel. Classic older California hotel that's been recently and nicely renovated. Nice area. All the fixtures and furniture are new and well maintained. Immaculately clean. Quiet. Staff are excellent and helpful. Great breakfasts. Definitely recommend it. I will stay there again. Reasonably priced. A very Zen experience. Loved it.
- 4/5
The hotel was pleasantly cute and updated in person for an older building. Staff was accommodating and worked with us since we booked with a third party. Fifteen minutes away from Embarcadero and medical offices. Window was difficult to close, had to use all my strength to shut it. Locks on doors did not seem secure but area seemed safe. Parking spaces tight

Generally clean and well maintained. The room I had was a bit overdone considering that "Zen" is the name of the hotel/motel. Basically a good place, not complaints.
- 4/5
Staff was nice and the breakfast was good. Room was very decently sized.
- 5/5
Clean, updated, good breakfast
- 4/5
Great
- 4/5
Hospitable, clean, comfortable and very conveniently located.
- 3/5
Totally standard b’fast. Good coffee. Staff was nice. Very overpriced for what was essentially a motel 6 with a paint job and new landscaping out front.

Nice hotel in Stanford / Palo Alto. Clean, big space, quiet, safe, walking distances to restaurants, excellent customer service. Excellent stay.
- 5/5
Very spacious and clean room plus great location. If they can have better pillows would be perfect .

Staffs are very helpful and decent breakfast
- 5/5
Very good, Very good, Very good,
- 4/5
The hotel and the staff were attentive. Overall, the stay was nice
- 4/5
Quiet, though conveniently just off the Main Street. While the hotel is very outdated yet pricey, it is quite clean. I’ve stayed twice.
- 3/5
The hotel condition is still good and rooms pleasant but the staff are not. The cleaning people kept dragging the cart in the court yard which makes an awful loud noise and still did it at 11 pm which woke me up and went on for a long time.Altogether it was a noisy night but the cart rolled noise was terrible.its mot the Zen place it used to be
- 5/5
The menu was good, filling and plentiful. Parking felt safe however could benefit from more spaces to park.
- 5/5
Exceptional
- 5/5
Lovely staff, wonderfully clean and updated rooms.
- 5/5
We'll be staying here during future trips to the area: friendly staff, clean rooms, great showers.
- 3/5
Nice and clean BUT didn’t compare to what it once was several years ago. They’ve eliminated all the things that made it special. Gone are the spa like individual toiletries, no basket of snacks in room, no bathrobes, no fresh cookies in lobby, and what happened to the delicious breakfast they used to have? I was so disappointed because that was one of the things that set this apart from other older, run of the mill motels. It is not a hotel, rather a small drive-up motel with nothing to make you want to return. I wouldn’t complain about it, nor would I praise it.
- 4/5
Overall, excellent.. clean and well maintained.. can use some upgrades though…. They welcomed BTS army with open arms.
- 5/5
Quaint and clean hotel! The parking is easy and checking in was quick. Great complimentary breakfast the next day. I wouls stay here again.
- 4/5
Very clean place
- 4/5
Nice, spacious and clean. Convenient location. Will stay here again.
- 5/5
I can’t speak about the breakfast-we didn’t eat. The coffee in the room was above average for hotel coffee!!
- 5/5
Location, Bed very comfortable, coffee in room was great, easy connection to WiFi and was perfect speed to get some work done. Breakfast started at 6:30am and I had to be out by 6:30am, was very sad to not be able to experience the Breakfast.

Clean, comfortable! Have stayed here a few times and will continue to. Good breakfast!
- 4/5
I’ve stayed here once before. It’s been a solid stay. Clean rooms, nice decor, pleasant staff, a standard breakfast & free parking are all appreciated. My one complaint, though no fault of the hotel; are the rooms facing the main thoroughfare. It made for a bit of a noisy night. Lighting came through even with the blinds and curtains drawn. I’d stay again but I’d opt for a room that isn’t on the El Camino Real side.
- 5/5
Very nice clean friendly and affordable
- 5/5
Kind staff
- 5/5
Solid breakfast options, well-maintained, kind staff.
- 4/5
I really enjoyed this stay - everyone was helpful, nice, and available. My only reason for leaving a review is to give a heads-up to medium to light sleepers… be advised that you will hear parking lot sounds and people talking as they pass your room.
- 4.5/5
I liked the decor, the parking was convenient, good location the stairs
- 4.5/5
Clean. Good parking.
- 4.5/5

- 4/5
Very good
- 4.5/5
Clean. Good parking.
- 4/5
Mostly very clean but not the cleanest place I’ve ever been. Bathroom small and dated. Location on main road and noise traveled into rooms.
- 5/5
Not my first time staying here. Every time i stay, its always A+
- 4.5/5
The only gripe being the poor wifi service in the room, it wasn't enough for a video call.
- 4/5
Surpisingly quiet. Full breakfast. We were surprised by the parking charge ($10 per day). Comfy bed. Great location.
- 5/5
Great simplicity
- 5/5
Clean room
- 5/5
I wasn't expecting to pay for parking, but well worth it! First time guest and very impressed. Thank you for your hospitality! I will be back!
- 5/5
It is always very clean, and I always sleep so much better here than any other hotel.
- 5/5
Enjoyed at lovely weekend stay at the Zen. Spacious room, lovely breakfast options offered and kind staff. Very conveniently located to Stanford University.
- 5/5
Great
- 4/5
Clean & quiet room. Breakfast was a little cold when we got there about 830, but there was a great selection. 9.95 for parking??
- 5/5
Nicely located clean hotel.
- 5/5
I’ll need staying again in the future
- 2/5
Surprised and disappointed that they charged $10 per night to park which they had not done in the past. Street parking is problematic and dangerous. Just be transparent and include it in the charge up front!
- 5/5
small, unique rehab without the fluff, but good location and very attentive and friendly staff. Bed was comfy and had all the necessities, for only 180/night... glad I chose this. Nice touch was that i could walk right in and out of my own room without going through a lobby or elevators. Would definitely stay again.
- 5/5
Super clean, incredibly friendly staff and quiet property. Couldn't ask for more!
- 5/5
Its a nice area to stay.
- 3/5
Didn’t partake in breakfast as I am a peculiar eater, mostly organic and no seed oils in my diet. Staff was very professional, pleasant and polite. I was somewhat submarinedvby a $9 parking pass which is extremely petty and only serves to pad the owner’s bottom line
- 5/5
Very clean
- 4/5
It was very clean. I was not told until registration that there was a fee for parks my a car.
- 3/5
Friendly, family-run, and quiet
- 5/5
Breakfast was good. Staff friendly. Didn’t like paying 10 dollars a night to park. Two of us were handicapped! Had it ony drivers license. But they wanted to see the tag. Especially bad we were headed to Stanford with my sister going in for cancer surgery.
- 5/5
Great stay. Well maintained property. Front desk staff was pleasant, polite and profitable. Only demerit would be the newly enforced parking fee which will foster me looking elsewhere.
- 4/5
The room was a 2 bedroom corner room that was bigger than most apartments. It was very clean. The only negative would be the lack of an elevator.
- 3/5
Staff is not friendly and welcoming; especially during breakfast time. Low in shampoo and conditioner.
- 4/5
Great location but building/room was dated
- 5/5
A pleasant stay. A welcoming staff. A clean room. A well-maintained place. Very cozy and inviting. Good, simple breakfast. You really feel like coming back when departing. Really convenient location. Quiet, but with easy and short access to the highway. Good eateries nearby.
- 3/5
Small but clean rooms. Quiet. Bed was fine. Major complaint was $10.00 for parking when their website said it was free. Breakfast was standard motel breakfast.
- 4/5
We are happy, regular guests, but our bed seemed a bit soft, less firm. Will request a different room for next visit, in June.
- 4/5
Breakfast was great, the rooms were clean, the area was quiet. Had a good nights sleep.
- 5/5
A nice simple and comfortable stay and great breakfast. Perfect a 1 night work trip.
- 5/5
Lovely stay, excellent accommodations
- 5/5
Room was clean and spacious. Very convenient location. Parking was full and could use more spaces. But overall, very nice and breakfast was adequate.
- 5/5
This was a very nice place to stay very clean and stuff were great
- 5/5
great breakfast
- 4/5
Good experience . Location is great! But little out dated
- 5/5
Clean and large room
- 5/5
Clean room, friendly staff
- 4/5
The room was clean, quiet and comfortable. One dissatisfaction is the parking charge of $10. I do not see why they have to charge for this. It is a nickel and dime approach that we did not appreciate. Other than that everything was good to stay for one night.
- 5/5
Courteous staff greeted us. Clean spacious and well appointed room awaited us. And a full hot breakfast buffet every morning filled us.
- 3/5
Clean. Thin walls. Tub didn’t work which was a bummer because I chose the hotel because it had a tub.
- 4/5
The breakfast was surprisingly good. I was expecting cold items and instead there was
- 4/5
The room was very clean and had everything I needed and more. The staff person was friendly. There is self-parking but you have to pay for it. There was a lot to eat for breakfast but it was made with budget ingredients and lots of sugar. The wifi was free and pretty good. I would definitely go here again but would probably eat breakfast out.
- 5/5
Breakfast was a real plus. Protein and fruit readily available.
- 4/5
The room was clean, and I appreciated being able to choose the frequency of housekeeping. The breakfast was decent, though not exceptional. The location was excellent, and the staff were very friendly and accommodating. They also allowed us to check in early, which was a nice bonus.
- 5/5
“I had a wonderful stay at Zen Hotel in Palo Alto. The rooms were clean, comfortable, and the environment felt very safe. The staff was friendly and attentive. Highly recommend for anyone visiting the area!
- 5/5
The Zen Hotel is a diamond in the middle of Palo Alto! This property is well maintained, the staff is very friendly, the room is decorated with nice touches, and outdoor patio is a unique extra after a day in the car. The room was exceptionally clean, comfy beds and had a full size coffee pot. Excellent breakfast options. The property is very safe with off street parking and a small parking garage. Highly recommend !
- 4/5
Evrethinh was good the only thing I didn’t like was they said the parking was free and they charge $10 for day
- 4/5
Clean room with really clean towels and bed sheets!!!
- 5/5
We've stayed at the Zen several times when visiting our son at Stanford. I like the excellent hot breakfast, close proximity of Walgreens across the street, and good parking. Property is older but they take pride in the little things and great value. Will definitely stay here again.
- 5/5
very clean and fancy room, nice shower area and big bed, soft sheets, good location with some late night food options nearby and fancy tesla and Mclaren supercar dealerships next door. Highly classy 👌
- 4/5
This is a motel not a hotel, so rooms are all ground level and open into the parking lot (no interior common areas or hallways). Walls are really thin! Can hear your neighbors talking at normal volume, fortunately my neighbors weren't too loud. Room was clean and comfy enough. Area has a Walgreens across the street and multiple restaurants in walking distance. About 10 - 15 min car ride to Stanford. Not terrible for a quick stay where I was barely in my room, but not great, especially for the price.
- 5/5
The room was very clean and comfortable
- 4/5
Didn’t bring a pet
- 5/5
I recently stayed here for a weekend trip. The location is unbeatable. The staff were incredibly friendly and efficient, making check-in a breeze. The room was spacious and spotless. The breakfast buffet offered a huge variety of options. Highly recommended.
- 3/5
It’s fine for the price. Nothing special, not awful. Convenient parking.
- 4/5
Typical motel, but very clean with comfortable beds & pillows, and nice staff. I enjoyed my stay. Nothing really "zen" about it except a few somewhat gimmicky exterior decorations. It's on a busy road without any garden I could find. For some reason, reviews singled out the breakfast as a plus, but the breakfast is just your typical hotel/motel hot breakfast buffet (what I would consider the minimum to get the label "breakfast included"): powdered eggs, greasy sausage, tater tots, bagels, waffle maker, yogurt. Nothing to complain about; just don't expect anything special.
- 4/5
Quick check-in. Clean room. Nice bathroom. Friendly staff. Comfortable bed. Good breakfast. Convenient parking.
- 2/5
Walls are paper thin and can hear 'everything' in the neighboring rooms. Snoring, coughing, conversations and so on. They charge for parking, which was not listed when booking the hotel and they were unwilling to remove the charge. It was only $9 but felt they could care less when I shared that it was not on the listing. The cleaning staff was very good and the place was quite clean.
- 2/5
It's very dated. Bed sheets have stains from god knows what. I left after the first night.
- 5/5
Excellent/Responsive staff—phone reservation, front desk reception, housekeeping, dining. Before the pandemic: excellent amenities. After the pandemic: limited amenities—bathroom complete, welcome snack/cookie/wafer/bottled water cancelled.
- 4/5
Friendly staff, clean room, great for our one night stay in the Bay Area.
- 3/5
Overall it was fine. Not great, not bad, just fine. The property looks great on the outside and the rooms have been updated, but parts of our shower were rusty. The worst thing was that our bed was broken and we kept having to fix the slats underneath. Again, it was fine. Nothing great. We wouldn't stay here again.
- 3/5
We stayed at a one bedroom suite, during our stay, we spotted ants crawling in the bathroom and kitchen counter. One night the ant was my bed, and other night it was on my arm while I was on my bed. They come repeatedly. The sofa bed is very hard to sleep on, I feel the wire springs. On the 2nd night, the upstair guests were stumbling the floor past 10:30pm, we had to call the front desk twice to report the issue, it was difficult to communicate with the front desk as he didn’t understand our issue and kept saying he would leave a note the next day to the staff. We booked the hotel based on good reviews but left feeling very disappointed. I would not recommend this place.
- 3/5
Most likely, not stay here any longer!
- 5/5
Clean room, staff was friendly and professional.
- 5/5
All staff were great. Everyone handled all issues. The managers were very communicative
- 5/5
This is a very small, neat and modern hotel in a good location. Our room was clean and attractive.
- 5/5
Very good
- 1/5
I stayed here 2-3 years ago and had a pleasant experience so I decided to stay again. At any hotel I always check the bed to make sure that there are no bed bugs which there were not. I did notice though that there was an ant on the bed. When I looked up on the wall I noticed a couple more ants and the side table also had an ant. Didn’t think much of it. Then I went to check the bathroom and there were quite a few ants on the floor, bathtub and wall. I went to the front office to let the person working there know. She called her manager and she went to the room to check out the situation. She sprayed a bunch of raid in the bathroom and the manager offered me a room at another one of their hotels. I opted not to take another room in another one of their hotels because I was tired and just needed a clean space to sleep in and after this experience I wasn’t sure I would get that at another one of their locations. The person working that night basically told me that it was at the owners/managers discretion as to whether or not I would get a refund. It was late and I didn’t want to argue so I left. Also to note overall the hotel was pretty run down. Would not recommend staying there.
- 5/5
Great staff, clean room, amazing location, delicious breakfast, safe for families with small children
- 5/5
Clean and comfortable, quiet.
- 5/5
Clean room, easy check in and out with a great breakfast!
- 5/5
Exceptional on all levels. Creme de la creme of hotel stays. Best value for the buck on the Peninsula
- 4/5
Friendly staff, cozy room.
- 5/5
Everything was great.
- 5/5
Perfectly clean room, great breakfast, an awesome find
- 4/5
Unpretentious motel, but a wonderful choice! Clean room with every important amenity, including an easy to use shower with a grab bar and non-slip surface (rare!). Excellent hot breakfast included, great location.
- 5/5
Very friendly staff! Clean.
- 5/5
For the price its great. Very clean and staff are really nice and accommodating.
- 5/5
Room was clean, staff friendly. Room smelled odd and heater was extremely loud.
- 5/5
Great spot!! Thank you
- 3/5
Staff was lovely. Management and rooms are what needs improvement.
- 1/5
Once I was finally able to get out of the airport, I contacted the hotel to let them know I would not be arriving and requested a refund. I was told that the cancellation needed to be requested in advance, which was not possible given the circumstances. This situation was entirely outside of my control, as millions of Americans, myself included, were affected by this storm. Additionally, I had two coworkers staying at the same property, and their feedback was that it felt more like a motel than a hotel and did not reflect the value of the stay. I’m disappointed with how this was handled and with the outcome overall. Had I known this in advance, I would have booked with a larger, well established hotel rather than a boutique property.
- 5/5
Room was clean and staff was great
- 5/5
clean room, clean facilities
- 3/5
The quality wasn’t very good and the selection limited.
- 3/5
The rooms are clean, the breakfast is good, they are getting a poor review because on the first say i arrived i mentioned i would need to cancel the last day of our múltiple day stay. The staff said to just do 24 hours before the last day reservation. So when i initiated the process they then went back on the policy and said it’s 24 hours to the starts of the first day. I asked if we could get a voucher for another day knowing because I’m sick and under care at Stanford we would eventually need to come Back..they said no and offered 20% off. I won’t be going back.
- 5/5
Parking, and layout was simple and convenient.
- 5/5
Great staff and the feeling that I was at home with the other guests.
- 5/5
Everything was great.
- 5/5
Clean room. Friendly staff
- 5/5
Safe location for walking day and night. Great staff.
- 5/5
Great breakfast!
- 4/5
The room had small bath towels and no room safe for valuables was the main concern. No shower caps or amenities given like a hotel does. This seems more like a motel than a hotel. But pricing was good and convenient for my places I needed to go in the area.
- 2/5
Rooms are not good, and need attention and upkeep.
- 4/5
The room was clean and comfortable. The staff was friendly and professional. The breakfast was a standard hotel breakfast.
- 5/5
Great place to stay
- 4/5
Staff was friendly
- 5/5
Yes
- 5/5
Excellent location for access to downtown Palo Alto. Charming, quiet property, very clean and well maintained. Room was super clean in every detail. Very comfortable. Easy, friendly check-in. Will stay here again.
- 5/5
Everything was fantastic, again. This was my second stay and they were both to notch.
- 5/5
good service
- 5/5
It is a motel, would recommend anyway.
- 5/5
Quiet, roomy, comfortable. Nice buffet breakfast
- 5/5
This my go to spot when I am Palo Alto! Worth a try if you haven’t tried Zen.
- 1/5
I traveled alone there to the hotel. Clerk didn’t regard my safety, shared my hotel room loudly several times. Even asked her to write my number on the receipt or door card. Secondly, gave me a key card that did not work. I asked her to accompany to the room and check for sure the card opened. I think this hotel may be involved with sex trafficking women.
- 5/5
We did not make it in time for the breakfast, but the front desk clerk offered to check with the kitchen staff if there was still anything left i could have. I told her it was okay, but the fact that she offered i appreciated. Over the last 4 years i have traveled to Palo Alto to pick up and drop off my daughter from College. This was my last trip as she graduated and i have to say.. i am glad we stayed at the Zen. It was refreshing to have front desk staff who had great customer service. Sometimes it is not just a clean room and nice area, but just a friendly smile and great etiquette goes a long way. Low cost room, but high level services and our room was spacious, clean and very "zen". Thank you.
- 4/5
Staff was pleasant, and breakfast, while simple, did the job.
- 5/5
Spotless room, wonderful staff, nice breakfast, and great location.
- 2/5
I didn't get the room I paid for and was not offered any remedy
- 5/5
Always a great stay at the Zen!
- 5/5
I love staying here, the beds and pillows are so comfy and the rooms are very clean.
- 5/5
Excellent value for the price. It felt safe, staff was very friendly, it looked and felt extremely clean, parking was fine, it was quiet and we all slept surprisingly well. Breakfast was adequate.
- 5/5
Clean room and good amenities, especially the breakfast!
- 5/5
Good customer service in the front desk is
- 5/5
Room was nice. Breakfast had egg whites, potatoes and sausage every day. Also waffles, cereal, bagels, OJ, yogurt, and muffins. Staff was very nice. This is my second stay here and I will stay again in the future.
- 5/5
The room was clean, and the hotel room decor was very calming. There was enough space to work in the room, and the chairs were comfortable. It was the first time I enjoyed a first-floor room. In addition, I though the breakfast options were extraordinary. Generally, I only get high carb options. This time, there were several reasonably healthy options, including poached egg whites.
- 5/5
Spacious and quiet. Courteous staff! In great neighborhood near two parks/playgrounds (Bol Park and Juana Briones Park).
- 5/5
Room was great, plenty of room & the breakfast was very good & tasty
- 5/5
Love staying at Zen! The service is outstanding and near lots of great food places.
- 5/5

- 3/5
They forgot to wake me up in the morning for my flight
- 5/5
Staff
- 4/5
I like the Zen. It checks all the boxes for me.
- 4/5
Breakfast menu is fresh!! Tastes good maybe two meat items would be great!! Or alternate between the days for choices of meat like the room service.
- 5/5
It was a nice hotel with comfortable bed!
- 4/5
Good job
- 5/5
I liked it a lot
- 5/5
Check in was smooth and very welcoming. Room was ready, super clean and up to date. The whole outside parking area is clean and well maintained. Pleasant atmosphere. Great central location in Palo Alto. Rooms on west side are very quiet. Breakfast offers many hot and cold options. Well pleased.
- 3/5
The staff and breakfast (with hot items) are both good. The facility is somewhat dated.
- 5/5
Great hotel. Amazing breakfast spread and super helpful and friendly staff. Stay here everytime we are in town for games
- 5/5
Staff was great!
- 5/5
Everyone was so kind and helpful.
- 4/5
Nice clean affordable option. Front desk staff helpful & efficient. Will definitely return!
- 5/5
I really like this place. Not only did I get a wonderful weekend rate, the room was excellent (clean, accessible, quiet, well appointed) and the staff very nice. Breakfast more than adequate with make your own waffles, cereals, muffins, juice, hot drinks, potatoes/sausage/bacon, oatmeal, fruit. Good TV offerings and strong wifi. Lots of electrical outlets. Microwave, coffee/tea maker and mini refrigerator. Free parking. Quick pick up by Lyft/Uber. There's even a pool.
- 5/5
Everything from the parking lot the rooms were very clean and proper. Very close to food and the hospital.
- 5/5
Excellent staff and clean property. Room was clean and well stocked
- 3/5
Didnt eat the breakfast
- 4/5
Staff was friendly. Rooms clean and updated. Conveniently located
- 5/5
All great
- 3/5
The staff were incredibly nice and they did have good sizes for lotion, shampoo, and conditioner. I hate to say, but my room was not very clean and found some hair that wasn't mine in a few places, along with it being dusty. The sink in my kitchenette was also clogged.
- 5/5
Always very clean and quiet!
- 5/5
It was perfect!!
- 3/5
Breakfast options were terrible. There’s no reason they couldn’t have offered some healthy or less processed food choices.
- 4/5
the staffs are nice
- 4/5
Delightful staff, excellent breakfast.
- 5/5
Good breakfast. Beds are low to the ground so you don't have to jump up to get in and they are comfortable. Rooms are spacious with a desk, refrigerator, and microwave. Shower is better than average. Walgreens across the street is very handy. Several restaurants nearby.
- 4/5
Great space for the two nights! Clean and quiet
- 4/5
The Zen is not new or fancy but the price and location are great. My room was very clean and they offer a nice breakfast. It is walking distance to San Antonio center for more dining options or an enormous Safeway.
- 2/5
Everything was a bit off; key card didn't work (multiple times), sheets clean but worn, the person in the kitchen who hovered, waiting for me to spill something. And, it's a motel
- 4/5
Convenient location. Easy check in. Good house keeping.
- 5/5
The rooms were super clean and the lady at the front desk was more than perfect. She answered all questions and made the experience perfect
- 5/5
We always enjoy our stay
- 5/5
Safe, clean, comfortable!
- 4/5
The room was not clean enough as in previous years . Something detorirated in the Zen lately :(
- 5/5
Everything was on point, for the most part. Some of the warm food was cold/ old. Overall, better than expected.
- 4/5
I would have liked more choices of drinks at breakfast, like maybe hot chocolate or milk. I was not able to have anything to drink with my breakfast meal. Also, vending machines with sodas would have been nice. But, all in all great hotel.
- 5/5
great experience overall. We will be back
- 4/5
The property was nicely redone, but the walls were thin. Not always a problem, but quite noticeable at times.
- 5/5
PaloAlto is beautiful cleanest city i have ever seen. The hotel Zen is very clean and has a couch and dining chairs and table in room!
- 5/5
Very nice landscaping
- 5/5
I absolutely love this place! Great customer service, very clean, nice and quiet, and an amazing breakfast with so many choices!
- 4/5
Easy check in and out. Large room with all the amenities for an extended stay, cook top, microwave, refrigerator, etc. Staff were friendly and helpful. I’d stay again.
- 4/5
parking was good, room nice and big and quiet. Wifi was spotty at times. Breakfast was ok.
- 5/5
The staff was extremely cordial and friendly. Comfortable bed. Nice breakfast options. I would definitely stay here again!
- 3/5
My stay here was okay, and the price was right. Although my room was non-smoking, it smelled like someone who smokes marijuana stayed there previously, so an air freshener would have been nice. The weather strip on the bottom of the door was torn. The breakfast selections were good, but I had to wait for the hot water for tea and the oatmeal, which was watery.
- 3/5
The stay provided the basic amenities I look for during a quick business trip. The property is sparse, but serviceable.
- 4/5
Clean. Felt safe
- 4/5
We had a nice day. Everything was wonderful. It would've been nice to have a firmer mattress with my bad back. Only thing that seemed to be a problem was the people above us. We were in room 208 didn't go to bed until around 1 AM and they were walking very heavily making it difficult for us to sleep, but that's not really the fault of the hotel
- 5/5
Location close to Shoreline. Would definitely stay here again.
- 5/5
Very clean and spacious rooms. Had all the amenities. We stayed for 1 night but I will not hesitate to stay for longer duration if I visit Palo Alto in future. Breakfast is standard as any other hotel but its neat and clean. Overall very satisfied and would recommend anyone looking for a clean place to stay around Palo Alto area
- 4/5
Room clean but some areas of room looked tired and old
- 5/5
Room was a nice size and comfortable. It would be nice to have a waste basket near the vanity sink.
- 5/5
It was very nice. The staff were very helpful. I would recommend the hotel.
- 5/5
everything you could need!
- 5/5
I didn't partake of the ample breakfast but appreciated the strong coffee pods in the room. I liked the cleanliness/design of the room and property and all the electrical outlets. Great shower too. Only gripe is that the shower rod was extremely rusty which detracted from the overall appearance of the room. This was very odd and should be addressed. Staff was very courteous and obliging. I would happily stay here again.
- 5/5
Amazing staff very comfortable beds and pillows. Very clean room phenomenal showers very easy to find the hotel and a phenomenal breakfast in the morning. I would definitely recommend.
- 5/5
Lovely stay at the Zen hotel. Comfortable beds and clean rooms. Great staff. Thank you!
- 5/5
24 hours service at the front desk Clean rooms every day
- 4/5
We would definitely stay here again. For being an older property, it's well maintained and updated. The beds were surprisingly comfortable and clean. Breakfast was what you would expect, but good.
- 5/5
It was all fine
- 4/5
This motel is in a great location to access Stanford and the price is very good for the area. The staff is very friendly and accommodating. The room is due for an upgrade/refreshing though. Thus a 4 star rating and not a 5 star rating from when I stayed here last.
- 5/5
Easy check in, accessible parking, nice staff, clean and safe area.
- 5/5
Very nice property. Clean and cute. The price was great as well. Would definitely stay there again if I need to stay in the area.
- 5/5
Very friendly staff. Big spacious rooms. Only negative- Noisy bathroom fan.

- 4/5
Overall, the property and hotel was nice. The front desk clerk was very pleasant and nice. Great customer service. The rooms can use some updating and our room had a musty odor to it.
- 5/5
My family stays here often with no issues
- 3/5
I have stayed in this two bedroom unit before. There is a small sofa missing that was up against the wall under the picture. This room also had a coffee table in front of the two couches. The carpet needs a shampoo as my feet were dirty every night from walking on the carpet. The furniture need to have the cleaned especially the chairs.
- 5/5
It was greatoo lol
- 3/5
Nice, quiet.
- 5/5
Staff went above and beyond to accommodate my schedule changes. Room was clean and quiet.
- 4/5
The first room we stayed in was room 116, the bed was very comfortable and the bathtub was high the front desk accommodated and got us another room which was 202. Everything was better in that room, but the bed was not as comfortable. we were extremely happy. Raul, one of the front desk people, was extremely helpful.
- 5/5
The staff was wonderful and the gym was fantastic. My only drawback was the laundry setup: the dryer required coins, while the washer had to be paid for with cash at the office. Since I hadn’t brought cash, my plan to do laundry was derailed unless I wanted to go find an ATM. Which I did not. Tip for future guests: bring cash if you plan to use the laundry facilities. 3.50 each.
- 5/5
Lovely, clean and comfortable room, ample free parking, and a hearty and delicious free hot breakfast with a good variety of options! Also loved the balcony overlooking a pretty, peaceful little garden. Would definitely stay here again next time I’m in the area!
- 4/5
Very kind fron office. Convenient water refill station, thank you.
- 1/5
First of all I was given keys to the wrong room. I checked in around 5:45 pm but did not go to the room at that time because I had dinner reservations and did not return until around 10 pm. When I went to my room at 10:00pm, through a very dark alley, I tried to use my key and it wouldn’t work. I kept trying to get in and then a man started banging on the window from inside the room and yelling at me. I went back to the front lobby and the man at the desk couldn’t believe he had made this mistake and tried to blame it on his boss when he was the one who checked me in four hours prior. After about ten minutes I was finally given a new room which was on the 2nd floor when I had specifically asked for a ground floor room when I walked into the new room there was a strong odor snd the room appeared dirty. I ended up leaving and finding somewhere else to stay. I was a woman by myself and did not feel safe staying there.
- 5/5
The workout room is really nice. WiFi is strong.
- 3/5
Overall, the property is okay for the location and basic need of a place to sleep. However, the front desk staff was not very helpful. Our room wasn’t ready at check-in, and when we asked for a ground-floor unit, we were downgraded to a room with two double beds instead of the two queen beds we had reserved. On the last night of our stay, the smoke detector kept going off with loud beeping every hour. I couldn’t get any sleep, and by the end, I just wanted to leave.
- 2/5
Super dirty especially the bathtub.
- 5/5
Good breakfast and more important parking lot
- 5/5
Simple, clean, friendly staff, comfortable bed, quiet.
- 5/5
Nice and quiet, perfect for a good night sleep.
- 5/5
Great staff and service. Very clean and good breakfast
- 5/5
All great
- 5/5
Every staff member throughout our stay was friendly, kind and helpful. Our room was fabulous. It was obvious that the Zen had been recently refurbished. Our room was huge with a king bed, couch, coffee table, dining table andh chairs I appreciated the clean sink, toilet and bath areas. The rain showerhead was great with excellent water pressure and heat. Breakfast is not fancy but has plenty of hot and cold choices even for me a picky eater. Lastly, we had an upstairs room that backed up to a busy road. Thought it was going to be a noise problem. With the back windows closed we heard no noises and the ac worked great! Loved this place!
- 5/5
Great location, everytbing a short drive within PA
- 5/5
I always come back to this wonderful little hotel. Never been disappointed! I highly recommend it for cleanliness, safety and convenience
- 5/5
The room was clean and very comfortable! Everyone was very friendly and kind!
- 5/5
Very relaxing and quiet.
- 5/5
Friendly, helpful staff
- 5/5
Nice little hotel, pleasant staff and decent free breakfast. We were able to walk to a place for dinner, which was a bonus.
- 5/5
It was a very clean and comfortable room. The check-in process was smooth, and access to the parking was easy. The bed was comfortable, and I was able to sleep soundly.
- 1/5
It’s nice but their WiFi is unreliable and very slow
- 5/5
The air conditioner was a bit noisy but effective. Staff very friendly. Will return for sure, quiet atmosphere.
- 5/5
Had a really nice stay. The pillows are so comfortable, the staff very nice and hospitable. It’s clean, it’s quaint. I slept like a baby. The breakfast is really nice you can tell the staff cares a lot. Would stay again!
- 3/5
There were many broken toilets outside our window. Yuck
- 5/5
Great staff and breakfast was very good
- 5/5
Great spot, clean, friendly good breakfast!
- 5/5
Pleasantly surprised by this well kept. And well attended to hotel. Highly recommend for a short stay.
- 5/5
Very friendly staffs, free parking inside complex, not modernized but it is indeed clean
- 5/5
Nice location
- 5/5
Room was like a suite…so clean, breakfast is great…not just cold continental…smaller private property…convenient location close to Stanford Clinics …favorite place to stay
- 5/5
Quiet, clean hotel.
- 5/5
Very clean and easily accessible.
- 5/5
.
- 3/5
Nice place and good price. But definitely not a 4* hotel. This is an old motel or inn that has been upgraded.
- 5/5
Very quite simple and value for money
- 3/5
It was only okay. Breakfast is not great. I will try another place when I return to Palo Alto.
- 3/5
The walls were thin and the people next door were very noisy until about 12:30 am. The bed was uncomfortable (room 206). The curtains facing out did not completely close and had small holes in them and were very dirty. Overall I was disappointed by the experience at the Zen Hotel. I expect a comfortable bed, complete privacy with curtains facing public areas, and a room quiet enough to allow for a good night sleep. Staff were very friendly and helpful, room was clean. Thank you.
- 5/5
I stayed here for three nights while my dad was having surgery at Stanford and was very pleased with my stay. Everything was clean and comfortable, and the staff was great. The only thing that was a little less than convenient was that my room was on the second floor and there is no elevator. It is more of a motel than a hotel which I was not expecting, but other than that it was perfect.
- 5/5
Staff were friendly. Room was very clean. Free parking and quiet area. Would stay again!
- 5/5
A clean, comfortable, 3-star hotel right on El Camino Real.
- 4/5
Very quiet
- 4/5
Convenient to Stanford University campus.
- 5/5
Everything was great! The breakfast was good…the scrambled eggs tasted real and the coffee was good. The housekeeping staff was excellent too…
- 5/5
It was a nice stay. We got the room with 3 queen beds and it was a great set up for a family with kids. Rooms were very quiet and clean.
- 5/5
Great place to stay.
- 5/5
Nice clean and kind
- 5/5
Breakfast has hot items, well stocked. Rooms are clean. Staff is kind and courteous. Parking is fine. Rooms are reasonably quiet. Nice place especially at its current pricing.
- 5/5
Easy to access. Nice room and layout. I appreciated the breakfast!
- 5/5
The Zen hotel is a hidden gem. It’s close to Shoreline and you can’t beat the price. It was quiet and comfortable and the complimentary breakfast included a great selection of hot and cold options.
- 5/5
Our room had a faulty window shade on arrival. It was replaced promptly when staff notified. Our room was close to staff operations so around 7am more noise from utility carts etc than preferred. We have stayed at the Zen many times and plan to return. Thanks
- 4/5
Good stay overall. Wifi service can be improved.
- 2/5
I stayed at this hotel recently, and while the room was generally clean and housekeeping came every day, I had a serious issue with ants. There were hundreds of ants all over the bathroom, and even on the bed in the morning. It was really unpleasant and made it difficult to relax. I also saw a few small spiders, but those didn't bother me as much. If it weren't for the ant infestation, the stay would have been fine.
- 4/5
Nice inexpensive property.
- 4/5
Bed, sheets, and pillows were comfy. Marketed as a hotel but really a motel (room door opens to the outside). Single occupancy room is kind of small but had good amenities. Keurig coffee machine with 2 pods, microwave, and mini fridge. TV has cable but I prefer also having access to my streaming accounts. Bathroom sink area is great. Shower water pressure is excellent. Plenty of outlets and USB ports for charging up all your tech gear with a good-sized desk space for working. This is definitely a business commuter type motel, and conducive to remote workers with laptops. The complimentary daily breakfast scores high points for just existing. Most places no longer do this. Not a wide selection but a good enough selection of breakfast foods including cold cereal, waffles, bagels, muffins, scrambled eggs, sausage links, tater tots, oatmeal, apples, bananas, coffee, decaf, tea, juice, and cold drinking water. Breakfast is from 6:30am to 9:30am so make sure you get up early enough so you don't miss that window. I didn't do much walking around but there are plenty of places to shop and eat within driving distance. I was there on business so didn't have much time to explore. Surprisingly quiet with fairly soundproof walls. They have a decent gym that NOBODY seems to use. Cardio machines, a weight stack, DB tree max 50 pounds,TRX cables (nice, most hotels don't have these!), and a bench. Overall, great place to get some sleep on short trips.
- 4/5
Older property with some stains in bathtub. However, seemed clean. Walls a little thin as I could hear my neighbor snoring. For the price, I think
- 5/5
Very comfortable, affordable and clean. Thank you!
- 5/5
We got the deluxe king room, but didn't expect it to be a suite, so we were very surprised. It's a great hotel. The staff were friendly and rooms were clean. The price was great too. Definitely will stay here again.
- 5/5
Had to go to Stanford hospital, traveling with kids. The location was perfect was a 12 min drive no traffic. Hotel staff very friendly and helpful. Booked 2 queen suite. The room was perfect lots of room and clean. Would book again
- 3/5
The website said it has a washer and dryer. They were broken. And desk person acted like that the website stated that. No mention of it being broken. The room, I had a suite was wonderful though. Breakfast was good. Clean.
- 5/5
Everything acceptable and above average. Thank you
- 5/5
The Zen hotel is well located near Stanford campus and downtown Palo Alto. The hotel was unique with its Zen decor. The morning breakfast was very simple and the coffee and orange juice was very satisfying. There were some notable issues. Specifically, ants in the bathroom, doorways, windows, and public walkways. Also, my room was facing El Camino Real which was made the room quite noisy during high traffic. Also, the washer was out of service. With all this said, I would recommend this hotel to others and will consider staying here again in the future.
- 5/5
Great hotel! Clean and beautiful. Highly recommended.
- 4/5
Basic, clean, large room with kitchen. Good value
- 4/5
Close to Stanford Hospital. Plenty of places for food. Quiet. Serviced breakfast.
- 5/5
The Zen Hotel in Palo Alto is located in a good area, with restaurants and shopping nearby. The bed was very comfortable, and the shower had a strong flow of water. The breakfast was great, with its choice of breakfast food.
- 4/5
It was very simple and felt a bit tired or worn, but it was just fine. No pool. Great little kitchen, but bring your own stuff to cook with. No elevator, but only two levels. Tons of nearby stores, restaurants and interesting things.
- 4/5
Room
- 3/5
the most concern is, they list the laundry , but no laundry available. the front desk point to the street laundry one minute driving. We didn't go. Laundry is the reason we choose this property, but they just lied.
- 5/5
Property was good and clean.
- 5/5
Even though located on a major street, it was very quiet. The fitness center is adequate and the free breakfast about what you'd expect, but they actually have hot oatmeal, eggs, and sausages! Overall the place has a theme on the outside. They didn't quite translate that to the inside though they tried. But a motel is a motel is a motel. The Zen garden truly is very cute but also immediately on a major intersection, with no fencing or wall shiedling it a bit so during the day it's not super Zen. But I would come here again.
- 5/5
I was here because of my wife’s surgery at Stanford. It wasn’t too far. I was not able to check in at 3 and they said the lobby will be open 24 hours so my check in was 11pm and they didn’t give my room away. Ok complimentary breakfast nothing special. Room was clean and the bed was comfortable
- 5/5
I love this hotel. It's clean, very clean and so affordable. We have stayed twice while having appointments at Stanford and it's not very far from Stanford Medical Center.
- 5/5
Very friendly staff, nice clean room and good breakfast.
- 2/5
The other reason I chose the Zen Motel is that they advertised free breakfast. However when my family went to eat, the staff picked everything up early so we had to go buy breakfast anyway. Terrible place and I’m not quite sure why they have decent reviews. I was let down.
- 5/5
Since it was very reasonable price, we didn't expect that much, but the hotel was very clean, cozy and room was pretty large for 2 people. We liked Zen Hotel very much! We want to come back again. Thank you so much! (4 stars for Area around the property is because our room faced to the street, so we could hear traffic - but when we closed windows, it was pretty quiet.)
- 5/5
It was a very cute and quiet hotel!
- 5/5
Very clean, very well cared for and comfortable bedding
- 5/5
Unique & quaint
- 5/5
Nice
- 5/5
Pristine, affordable, and well located.
- 4/5
Helpful staff. I stayed for 18 days. A major reason was having a washing machine on the premises. The washing machine has been broken for quite some time. It is obvious they do not plan on fixing it. This should be updated in the hotel listing. It is a big inconvenience and unpleasant experience to have to walk to the run down public laundry facility 3/4 mile away.
- 5/5
really good service,
- 5/5
A great place to stay.
- 5/5
Property and room are clean and comfortable. Very good value for the money. will definitely return.
- 5/5
The room was immaculate, the lighting was excellent, and the location was great. The front desk associate provided fantastic customer service. When the TV remote control in our room wasn’t working, she promptly brought us a replacement remote along with new batteries. We also requested an extra towel for our group of three guests, and she kindly brought one right away. Her helpfulness made our stay even more enjoyable.
- 5/5
Clean and confort rooms. It was pleasure too stay at this hotel for me. Breakfast was good and fresh.
- 4/5
This place was clean though a bit outdated, beds on the softer side. The staff was professional and the breakfast staff was kind. Breakfast options ( bagel, toast, yogurt, eggs, tater tots, sausage, oatmeal and juice).
- 4/5
The room was nice, but there was something flimsy about the hotel—it was more like a motel than a hotel. The staff were excellent.
