Everything was good, the pool was super clean but they should not put breakfast included , instead “ tea, coffee, juice & snack bar included for breakfast “
- 5/5
It was very clean, and centrally located
- 4/5
It is walking distance to a few restaurants. The chocolate mousse at Hugo's was very good.

One of my favorite hotels to go to for a quick weekend trip to SoCal. Great service!
- 5/5
The staff was extremely friendly and knowledgeable about the area and great location.

Great stay!

The room was what I expected for the price. It is just an old building with small bathrooms. The room did has a scent that took a bit to remove as we needed to open up windows and doors. Nothing spectacular about this hotel. But was worth the price paid.

We got booked in room 227. The room had a weird smell that hit you as soon as you walked in. We saw ants near the sink, shampoo was not refilled both days, I saw roaches in the outside of the building (thank goodness not inside). Parking was a challenge, both nights we stayed there was someone occupying our parking space (in front of our door). They have a note in one of the tables stating that if we find any broken things or anything malfunctioning to notify immediately and to make sure we lock our doors and don’t answer the door unless we are completely sure of who it is. I let them know right away that the latch from the door leading to the balcony was completely missing, there was no way to secure the door. High winds could have easily opened the door, that’s how unsecured it was. The guy that responded to my call acted surprised to hear about the door and told me it would get fixed the next day. The next day when we returned from our adventures in the afternoon I went to front desk and asked about the door and the lady at front desk said it was going to take a while to get fixed and didn’t seem to care much about the issue. It was evident that the door has been with a broken doorknob for a while. Almost looked like if part of the doorknob had been removed to replace another one. Hopefully door gets fixed soon.

The hotel needs to be updated. The rugs are filthy. I need to be changed immediately. The small refrigerator didn’t even cool my food. The air-conditioning filter needs to be changed.

This property is in need of renovations.

Just 10 mins from Universal Studios Hollywood and 15 mins from the Walk of Fame, this hotel was a fantastic location! Whilst parking onside is $10 per evening, we parking right outside on the road where parking is free between 8am and 8pm. We were always out before 8am and back late. Shower was good and bed were really comfy. Would definitely stay here again!
- 2.5/5
The room was very clean, sanitary. Comfortable beds and pillows. Excellent WIFI. Pool. The trees in the garden where there used to be koi fish and the red bridge over the pond. I liked that there was a piano in the lobby. There is a theme here and potential to be something special and quaint but the condition of some parts of this place need improvement. The price of the room is significantly less expensive than most if not all of the other hotel/motels near the area. I would not have complained about anything if there had not been an issue with our sleeping arrangements, but since I am being honest.......When we booked a room for 5 people; 2 adults and 3children ages 11, 13, and 15, we expected to get a room with beds that would accommodate 5 people. The 2 beds in our room were both only doublesized, barely big enough to sleep 2 people comfortably. So we had one person with no place to sleep and no extra bedding to even make a pallet on the floor. So the kids ended up having to lay across the bed horizontally with their legs hanging over the edge on one side of the mattress. Also, having to pay an extra $20 each night to park on the property seems a bit grimey, parking on the property should be included with the price of the room because it is just an open to the public parking lot without any security or valet so I do not understand how they justify charging extra money to park when they provide no special services and warn that they will not be held responsible for any of your belongings if they are lost or stolen. Nobody plays the piano in the lobby. The hot tub was taped off and not working. Tiles, water and fish missing from the Koi pond. I think this hotel is more like a motel that was enchanting when it was new but time has taken its toll on the place and many things need repairs and maintenance to bring back the charm.

Perfect every time. I’ve been staying here for 10+ years. Never disappoints.

Lack of facilities in the room. No coffee maker to boil water gor a tea or coffee. The TV lost streaming signal 2 minutes into any shiw that you wanted to watch. The upstairs room seemed to have a herd of ekephants that was not resolved.

Loved the upstairs back room. Having the parking right outside the door with a balcony was great.

We stayed a few night and the staff has been friendly and fast.

I stayed several days here. The staff is pretty friendly. Sad that the hot tub is not in service and their garden. We primarily booked because of it. But hopefully in the near future we stay here again everything is open

This is an older hotel, but the rooms were very clean and the housekeeping staff were exceptional. We checked in late and the front desk staff was professional and kind. I would definitely stay here again with my family based off of the services from housekeeping and front desk, overall cleanliness of the hotel, and the restaurant was delicious.

Do not book here. Checked in went to out room and upon opening the door had a heavy smell of weed, which I have an allergy to. Instantly started getting a headache and feeling nauseous as did the other person in my party also smelled it. Went back to the front desk and was told they we sold out so I asked for a full refund as I could not stay there. Front desk told me the room had just been cleaned and the smell must be coming from upstairs the the room couldn’t smell like weed. Again said that may be true but the smell was there and for medical reasons I can’t stay in that room. Was asked to sit down well she made a call came back and proceeded to get me another room which was the room right Next door. Told staff that that was not going to work as if the smell was indeed coming from upstairs that that room would have the same issue. They asked me to just go try it so we went to open the door and again same problem. Staff got aggravated with me and said the rooms were both cleaned and no one had stayed in the second room for a few days. Said at this point you’ve told me your sold out please just give me a full refund so I can go find another hotel. Was told I booked through a 3rd party and would have to contact them said fine and asked them to refund the incidentals they had just charged my credit card. Which took staff a 5 minute text message before she did it. Called Expedia to get a refund only got less then half because motel it saying I stayed 1 night. Which I didnt.
- 4/5
Bathroom had some wall paper? peeling off…overall good for 1 night stay.
- 4/5
For the price it wasn't bad. Rooms a little outdated but for the price, its fine.
- 5/5
Excelent location.
- 2/5
The facility looked really old. In the room, the wall paper was peeling and the carpet looked so well worn; not necessarily dirty but also not clean so I decided to not take my crocs off the whole time in there. I also wasn’t sure about the bathtub— everything about the bathroom felt dingy— so I wore my crocs while showering too. Corners of the bathroom needed a good scrub and dusting. The bed looked clean and it was comfortable. The staff weren’t rude but they weren’t nice either. It was affordable and close to tourist things.
- 4/5
Although the bathroom was a bit outdated, the room itself and the entire hotel was very clean and well maintained.
- 1/5
The hotel is in poor condition. The bed was sunken in, the wall paper terrible condition in room. There was a humid smell in room. The furniture is old. The jacuzzi which was one of the reasons chose the hotel was broken. The Asian bridge wood is rotten and needs paint additionally no coy fish on water. Noisy due to restaurant attached from diners.
- 5/5
Mikado hotel is a great hotel. Friendly staff and super close to everything
- 5/5
Good hotel and great value for your hard earned dollar

Everything was clean and had no problems with anything in the room had a nice stay with the time I had at the hotel
- 5/5
Beautifully maintained hotel that is a nice oasis in Valley Village. Staff was friendly and helpful. Pool was nice. And a great value.
- 1/5
They never returned my $100 deposit
- 4/5
Great stay. Hot tub was broken and pool was closed. Parking is an extra $10 and coffee tasted like watered down 711 ampm coffee. Overall nice stay!
- 4/5
Clean room and air conditioning. Although it brought creepy vibes
- 5/5
Hot tub not working, room in the fan extremely extremely dusty. The Japanese fountain is empty without water. Nonetheless I still really liked the place and the potential of what it once was. Next door is a very fun and tasty tiki sushi bar!
- 2/5
So disappointed. We have stayed here years ago and looking forward. However the room we had was not what we expected Sheets too rough pillows uncomfortable, bathroom too small and wallpaper wrinkled, sink cabinet warped Never again
- 3/5
Basic hotel operation at an older property... Friendly check in and decent room, but not much more than that.
- 4/5
Place is a little dated. Bathroom needed new caulk.
- 2/5
Room need a face lift. Burn in carpet.
- 3/5
The staff was pleasant. The room was not as clean as you would expect for the money. The wallpaper in the bathroom was coming off the wall. The bath tub looked like it had not been cleaned. The thermostat in the room was not working.
- 5/5
Good
- 4/5
The property is good for the price. A little dated but overall good. I didn’t like that you pay extra for parking. Should be rolled into the room rates.
- 3/5
Was more shanty in the room than outside.
- 4/5
Bathroom, tile, wallpaper were very very very old and stained. We laid the towels over the floor and tub. There was tissue in the peep hole. The shower had unending hot water. 😊 The blow dryer didn't work.
- 2/5
Room smells bad and needs deep cleaning as it was stained and dirty.
- 5/5
large room, interior rooms are away from riverside Dr. so quiet. I like this property a lot, they could use more parking
- 2/5
. Wrong add They call police and I can't walk. Barely avoid arrest.. Hide many hours. No refund. No funds. No sleep. Request ambulance. . Cantlwave or get lawyer. Nearly get killed. Seek aid. Sort of like the the other stays. Hopeless.Might die. Beg for more funds . Seek hotel.and lawyer. Expected some refund Still can barely walk. Need rest.
- 1/5
They threaten police ....Lock stuff in room.. Leave under dress. Next hotel calls police because iIm too early. Can't get refund, store luggage, eat sleep. Afraid of arrest. Have to pee. All funds stolen Homeless now.
- 5/5
Mikado is changing and inexpensive. The Japanese theme is fun and the Mikado restaurant is great.
- 3/5
It is a great price and located close to the theme park we visited, but there is a reason the price is lower. The rooms are older and we had ants in our bathroom. I liked the fact that we had a microwave and fridge though. Besides the ants it was an "okay" place to stay.
- 4/5
Jodie if my memory serves me well. This was a couple of weeks ago and I am going back to LA for five nights next week and grabbed an available room at a reasonable price just now.
- 5/5
it’s always a blast there the Asian man of your girl is really pretty very it’s nice the Pakistani girl she’s rude. She’s always nice to me when her boss is next to her, but I love the place.
- 1/5
The room was on of the worst ever, the sink was stained, carpet had gum stuck to it, furniture was scratched & old. The room had a musty damp odor. I stayed for work and did not have the time to find another room. I’m sure the heath department would have a few questions. I called for a receipt for the $10.00 nightly parking fee. I was told, “ we don’t give receipts for parking.” I had to argue with the lady to receive one.
- 1/5
Women in the reception were not helpful and rude
- 5/5
The rooms inside are very dated. The breakfast options were limited.
- 1/5
Not recommended very old the carpet was dirty and very bad smell. The hot tube was broken and green.staff was nice
- 5/5
Amazing staff
- 3/5
I was not aware the hot tub was inoperable before reserving. Room carpets need a deep clean. Good TV channel selection. Advise getting a room on 2nd floor; very noisy on first floor. Nonsmoking room smelled like smoke.
- 5/5
Yes, great.
- 5/5
Just a great spot
- 5/5
Awesome hotel, great staff, clean rooms, excellent dinning next door with music. Will be back for business or pleasure.
- 3/5
Dated room, no breakfast option
- 3/5
the guy at the front desk was sonunfriendly and the least professional person. worst part of the experience
- 4/5
Internet was slow. Not an issue these days, I feel. It was great having a fridge and a microwave in the room. The staff is super nice.
- 4/5
Nice clean space. I was here for a few hours overnite only so I didnt take advantage of other items. Parking was difficult due to lack of space.
- 4/5
I found out that the jacuzzy was in no working condition for a month prior to my arrival... Looks like the hotel has no intention on fixing it at all :(. Internet was perfect, thank u!
- 3/5
Hot tub was out of order, only had cereal bars for breakfast.
- 3/5
Hot tub broken.
- 1/5
It was a dump. Damp, dark, dirty, with electrical issues and roaches. Didn’t even stay there. Checked in and then checked right back out.
- 1/5
the room smelled like marijuana and there were water stains throughout. The music from the restaurant was audible all night. Perhaps the worst hotel experience I've had.
- 5/5
Everything was great!
- 3/5
The room was okay. Recall the front desk several times to address an issue. No one ever answered the phone. I had to resolve the issue on my own.
- 5/5
My room was right in the middle of the hotel and very close to the parking lot. The space was quiet and very calm all around. The room was very clean, smelled clean too, in the room was a working microwave and mini-fridge which is a nice touch. The room was spacious for 2 people. Checking in was a breeze, the staff was super friendly.
- 4/5
Clean area, clean rooms, clean lobby. Overall good experience.
- 1/5
Horrible.
- 1/5
Rooms are cheaply upgraded. staff is stubborn, no flexibility. I actually left after an hour
- 1/5
Bed had ants (alive and dead) and a spider. Bathroom had ants as well. We left after 15 mins upon arrival. I lost the entire amount paid. Never again here. Hotels.com should be ashamed and embarrassed for having them as an option!
- 1/5
Room smelled like cigarettes badly. Photos kinda misleading
- 1/5
Picture in this app are not it. The place is old and falling apart.
- 3/5
Staff at check-in - poor communication skills. Needs improvement for customer service.
- 3/5
The room was pretty shabby - grungy old carpet, peeling wallpaper, mildewy grout. Very thin walls allowed us to hear our neighbors' intimate activities during the night.
- 5/5
It was a huge room with a super shower good tv and a great bed what else could you ask for. Thank you Mikado
- 4/5
I quite liked this place. It is clearly old, but they keep it clean. The pool looked really nice, though I never took the time to jump in. There is a layer of "dinge" on most things, but I think it gives the place character more than anything, because it seems to just be from age, not lack of cleanliness. The walls are pretty thin. I could hear every cough by my neighbor. Don't go in with outrageous expectations, and you should have a good stay.
- 5/5
it’s so nice when the Asian beautiful girls there she’s always nice polite
- 5/5
Staff is very courteous
- 2/5
I came into the hotel showed her my reservations on my phone.Give her my id and my credit card. She called house keeping to see if any rooms were cleaned. She didn't assign me a room it was on the other side of the building after having walked down to the room. I returned to the office a requested that I get another room because that one was too far away from everybody i.e. the office and then I was a single woman traveling alone , and I didn't wanna be that far away. She first says she didn't have anything else available. That was cleaned i said that I would be willing to wait. So she started checking her computer to see if there was anything else available Meanwhile , two came in ladys came in to check in. She stopped to help them and assigned a king size bed to the first lady.We should have been given to me because if she said she didn't have any available. How was it that she was able to assign a bed to someone just walking in the door and I was there already having returned. She assigned her keys. The other lady also wanted to change rooms. She said it was too much smoke for her.She assigned her another room, but 2 beds.Because that's all, she said she had available.Shortly after the one lady returned that she just given keys to and said that her room was also smoky and again she gave her another room. So when my turn came , she told me there was nothing else available on the first floor and I would have to go to the second floor. Then I had gone back to the room since she d
- 5/5
Nothing to complain, low cost relative with spacious room
- 5/5
room was nice, staff was great, everything was clean
- 3/5
Shower had hair in it :(
- 4/5
Nice staff, kind of shabby rooms (e.g. peeling wallpaper, bad caulking around the bathtub) but they're trying and the rooms are slowly being renovated (the old carpeting is getting removed and vinyl flooring is going in) but I keep coming back due the price and location. The main floor rooms are a bit of a drag since you can't open your curtain without having people look in, so keep that in mind. Free coffee and snack in the morning is a nice touch. Oh, and the tv had some weird lcd burn marks all over it in both rooms I stayed in, so be forewarned, this is not a three star hotel, more like a two but, like I said, I keep coming back! Oh, and the parking fee went up to $10/day, which is silly but you can park on nearby streets for free if you wanna save a few bucks. This place is not for the super fussy but the linens and bedding are ok so...I keep coming back!

- 5/5
Nice quiet
- 3/5
My stay was good I can’t complain, the room was nice! I really don’t have any feedback to give!
- 1/5
I got this hotel for the good reviews and photos. Arriving there everything seemed very old and the full of mold inside the room was unbearable, from the dirty bathroom. In addition, the full one was also on the sheets and pillows. I don't know how this hotel has good reviews. I was very disappointed and had to change hotels because I couldn't sleep due to allergies because of the mold. The staff was super attentive and tried to solve the problems, they showed us other room options and clearly it was not their fault to be in that state. I definitely don't recommend this hotel.
- 3/5
The downside of this location is it’s so close to the freeway — you get a lot of traffic noise. And the heater was noisy too! Hotel could stand a refresh, but it’s clean and the staff is friendly. Bed was nice and firm. TV was easy to use.
- 5/5
Ok

- 2/5
Linoleum in the bathroom curled up in moldy carpets very worn out. They didn’t even put a comforter, or a blanket on the bed. The TV was worn out or something wrong with it with big spots burned into the screen It was in some serious disrepair especially for the money I wouldn’t stay there again. I would try somewhere else. I’m not being super picky here. It definitely wasn’t worth the money. Yes, it was close to Universal Studios, which was nice. They also charge you $10 a night for parking which I think is ridiculous. They just have a crummy little parking area. That’s attached to their hotel. It’s not like they’re in a prime real estate area There was no coffee pot. There Was supposed to have two double beds , however they seem like just a large single bed was extremely hard. It was fairly clean, but in extremely bad shape things worn out I’m not a person who normally complains and I’m not someone who’s who’s very picky, but I really felt deceived when I saw what I was paying for
- 5/5
The bed was very comfortable.
- 5/5
Great location, smooth and welcomed check in, excellent customer service, room has everything you need …
- 2/5
And the mattress is soft and tin.
- 3/5
The stay was mediocre. The hotel staff were very friendly and accommodating, but the hotel itself is dated and lacks guest services amenities. Further, the guest in the room above mine stomped around the room EVERY (early) morning and evening, rendering peace and quiet impossible.
- 3/5
Clean
- 2/5
Start with the positive, the staff was very nice & helpful. The room was clean. But, parking extremely limited & hugh trucks block very small spaces. Hot tub was out of order. Shower in room is very low water flow. Not too far (driving) are nice restaurants, shops, but this is a pretty run down & basic property on a very busy road. But it's LA & there's worse places. So, if you aren't looking for fancy in anyway & it's just for a night or two, it works. It's a place to sleep, nothing more.
- 2/5
The room needs a desperate upgrade. It was uncomfortable to move around and noisy with the people staying g in the next room.

Great and quick check in
- 2/5
The Indian girl was very rude. Every time I go there it’s like she hating me. She was yelling at me you should get fired. Honestly it looks like she hates her job and she called me on my room at eight in the morning making sure if I was there, she wake me up and I knew check up time. He was at 11 that was no need for her to call me that early. Nothing can compare with the other Asian girls are the best.

War zone outside! Gangster hotel
- 1/5
The mikado is a dirty dumpy hotel! The carpets are disgusting and should have been replaced years ago! The staff is rude and negligent and something is always broken the hot tub, cable tv etc… the back parking lot is frequented by suspicious cars and lots of drug activity , people knocking on your door at 2am, screaming shouting and police activity… I suspect prostitution was taking place in the room next door and they allow smoking in the rooms too which smells awful! The bathrooms are not cleaned well and the shower barely rinses your hair! Stay away from here! This is a slum!

Although the bathroom shower was for physically compromised guests, and water flowed beyond the shower area, the room was fine.

Loving place
- 4/5
The hotel was decent, good location, safe, close to restaurants and universal studios. They provided a grab and go breakfast as well. Several food options within walking distance. The only downside was the carpet. The carpet in my room was legendarily grimy, I like to walk barefoot in my room but I could not. I believe the asphalt outside is probably cleaner than the inside carpet. Kept my shoes on for the rest of the trip and everything else was workable. This place would be easily 5 stars after they change their carpet.

Awesome place
- 5/5
Room was great. Loved the balcony. And staff was friendly and attentive.
- 2/5
Room smelled bad, kind of run down, definitely thought it would be a little nicer.
- 5/5
Excellent check-in. Fast, friendly, knowledgeable and efficient.
- 1/5
Stayed weekend for work trip, was receive to the news that we would not be able to connect to the TV through any port because the TvS here are LOCKED on whatever service they have. Set us back and we were not able to review our plans for work given we needed to project our screen. Floors were almost falling apart in the bathroom. We got back into our room after our first day of work to see a cockroach on our beds. On top of all this, the only breakfast they have is granola bars, dispenser cranberry/orange juice (not that good at all). The door in the bathroom wouldn’t even lock so there’s that factor of not a lot of privacy if you travel with workmates. MOTEL 6 IS BETTER SOMEHOW?
- 2/5
We needed to extend a day and it was a whole check out then checkin experience all over again with an additional $100 deposit. Then, I was offered late check out for the inconvenience, only to be called the next morning and told that the late check out couldn’t be accommodated and the room needed to be vacated by 11.
- 5/5
Nice clean room and service was excellent
- 4/5
Good for a quick stay. Clean room. Tiki bar was fun with good food also got discount for stay at hotel
- 5/5
Super close to universal and great staff!
- 5/5
Beautiful and paling in front of your door
- 2/5
the wallpaper was coming off the walls the air conditioner work good the bathroom was nasty and little and I wasn't happy with it at all
- 2/5
The room feel neglected yup the mattress need to be change there’s no firmer on it,when you laid down you automatically sink in it. very uncomfortable, so imagine what my one night stay there. aside from that the room is very well cleaned, which is very good. mikado is one of my favorite hotel in the valley that’s why I keep coming back there, so I hope next time i will be happy to stay there.
- 4/5
Clean but very dated.
- 2/5
The room looks like they tried to renovate it, but it was done very shoddily. There were stains all over the carpet. We had a balcony that looked into the restaurant patio/wall. There was a trailer parked in front of our room and they were spray painting it all day 1 day and we had to smell the fumes. The staff were very short with their answers and generally had a rude tone. The only thing I can say was the place was overall very clean and a great location and price for going to Universal Studios. They have removed anything resembling a Japanese theme, so perhaps they should consider updating their description and name.
- 5/5
Great hotel clean, rooms were spacious, and it had a refrigerator, and microwave. I would definitely stay here.
- 1/5
The room was dirty. The carpet looked like it hasn't been cleaned in a few weeks and it was from the 80s. Limited lighting in the room.
- 1/5
They did not refund deposit for no reason.Everything else was OK.
- 3/5
Room was aged! Some renovations have been done, but overall upgrades are needed. Carpet was dirty, needs cleaning. Furniture was obviously old, stains on chair. Staff were very courteous and helpful! Okay for the price!
- 5/5
Everything worked so great. Definitely will be back for sure.
- 5/5
Habitaciones limpias. Las camas destacablemente limpias lugar seguro con la hot tube bien caliente conveniente para ir a universal recomendable para familias que buscan un hotel BBB.
- 3/5
Fast check in, the room was ok, a bit old but was ok.
- 5/5
Check in was quick, nice hotel in and out for a quick stay in! Great price for a great room near good hotspots!
- 3/5
Pretty outdated but had the basics and was clean. The sink was plugged in my room but bath/shower and toilet were working fine.
- 5/5
Everything is nice and clean
- 5/5
Love the mikado it’s always priced right and it’s my number one go to hotel! But this visit was exceptional, not because of the amenities or staff… this particular stay was great because I received my $100 deposit back 30 minutes after check out! That’s a first! I’ve before waited in excess of 10days! In these hard times, 30 minutes later was a wonderful surprise! Yay
- 5/5
This is my second time at this hotel and it never fails to impress with price and quality. Thank you so much!
- 1/5
The room smelled like laundry that had been left wet in the washer for days. We did not end up staying. The room was so gross that we checked out within 10 minutes of checking in.
- 1/5
Place was horrible. Staff were rude and dismissive. Room was scary gross, stained carpet, surfaces were dirty and an awful distinctive stench. and shared the room with a baby roach!!! .. Will NEVER stay here again.
- 5/5
Staff was very friendly. Rooms are really clean. Great stay for an affordable price.
- 4/5
The room has a humid odor, maybe carpet needs to be wash, however it was good.
- 4/5
Older property, but clean, the hot tub was nice, but the pool was ice cold! My kids couldn’t even swim in it, pool sure could use a heater. Overall I would stay here again if in the area.
- 1/5
Too noisy, next room person was mak
- 5/5
Spent three nights and they were all great. Staff is very attentive, rooms where clean the balcony was a plus. AC was cold and heater got us through the night
- 5/5
Clean room, comfort recommended staying again, just wish they had alittle more of variety of food for breakfast overall it was comfort
- 5/5
Very good for the price
- 5/5
It was a great comfy stay. Very nice staff.
- 1/5
Backed up to loud major freeway ! Unkept property !! I would say good from far, and far from good !!!
- 4/5
Was very thankful that they helped me with an early check in. Room was good. Shower was hot. Restaurants and nearby everything we wanted to do.
- 3/5
Our rooms were not ready at check in time. We were given keys to a room that wasn't cleaned yet. The front desk person (for check in) was really trying but it seemed like the house cleaning staff and front desk were not communicating well. The night front desk person was annoyed that we had to ask for help with our room key that wasnt working. The rooms are definitely older and do not look like the rooms in the pictures. But they were ok foe 1 night and everything was functional. We did not use pool or jacuzzi- jacuzzi was overfilled with water and both did not look clean
- 1/5
The room was so dirty . Stunk like pee & there was stains on the floor , walls , & roof ! The roof !!! You can literally see the mole on the walls . When I went to the front desk to complain they acted like they didn’t know & refused to give me a new room ! A room of this condition should not be offered to any person! They need to shut down this hotel !
- 1/5
There were stains everywhere on the carpet , the walls & the roof ! The roof !!!!! The bathroom stunk like pee ! The room is cheaper but OMG this hotel should be shut down !!!!!! It is sooo dirty. There was mole you could literally see the mole on the walls !
- 4/5
Very quiet. Staff cleaned great.
- 3/5
Clean room and nice staff
- 5/5
Was not expecting the pool and hot tub! Coffee was awful though.
- 4/5
LA is all about anything and everything new, so it’s very comforting to know that places that The Mikado still exist. It is a throwback to another era, and I am delighted that it is in the process of being renovated vs being torn down and replaced with some sterile, metal and glass building that would be more at home in an industrial park. I like my hotels to have character, and this one does. The staff could not have been more accommodating and friendly, the beds were comfortable enough, and the rooms are larger than what you get in more modern hotels. Parking is easy, with a fairly nominal daily rate of $10. For LA, that’s a bargain! The location can’t be beat. It’s close to Ventura Boulevard, with easy access to freeways, restaurants, and shopping.
- 3/5
it was okay… the bed was comfortable and the hotel was generally quiet. room wasn’t ready on time at check in and staff was clearly overwhelmed. rooms don’t really look like the pictures. a few safety concerns regarding how open the property layout is. for the price, it was okay, but definitely felt a bit sketchy once we were there.
- 2/5
Very rundown. Door did not seal very well, heard the freeway very loud all night. Parking was a joke, lunch spots as wide as a Honda Accord.
- 3/5
It was okay for the price nothing special.
- 3/5
Carpeting is old. No discount while 8 - 5 construction is going on.
- 3/5
Lack of signage for lobby/parking. Confusing entrance. Asked for a late checkout at noon. Night front desk said yes. Front desk woke me up at 11:15am saying no noon checkout I had to be out at 11:30am She was rude about it
- 4/5
The building is ready for a makeover, big time! The carpet in my room was gross. I thought the bed and TV were nice.
- 1/5
Did not refund my deposit as stated they would
- 1/5
Dirty room/Stains/Advertized good breakfast when it was only granola bars
- 5/5
Internet was good. Big common area for get-together with son who lives locally. Cant wait to come again & see garden area when renovations are completed. ****
- 4/5
This is a one night stay for four adults and seven children. We needed a hotel near Universal Studios. This was a clean room, great air conditioner and had a mini fridge. Location was perfect for us and our request to have three rooms together was accommodated. They even gave us a late check out which was much appreciated after our late night at the Halloween Haunt!
- 4/5
No work space available, good internet
- 5/5
A nice affordable place to stay. Close by universal. Made it easy to check in and out. Would be staying here again.
- 5/5
Friendly workers
- 4/5
Clean room
- 3/5
Rooms are outdated, also I saw some reviews saying the found roaches and I found one in my room. Disgusting.
- 3/5
Carpets were discusting, nothing like the advertised pictures, pubic hairs in the shower, stains on the sheets. Front desk, gentlemen, who works evenings needs a raise.
- 4/5
Extremely friendly and courteous front desk staff, clean and a good value.
- 5/5
Really nice area and super safe. It's very close to everything in Hollywood
- 5/5
Great place!
- 3/5
Staff was very courteous and helpful. Lobby area was comfortable, well lit, and generally pleasant. The carpet in the room, however, was extremely dirty. It needs urgent replacement.
- 5/5
Clean. Great customer service.
- 5/5
The property looks a little sketchy but overall our stay was great. The staff was great and the pool and jacuzzi were nice after a long day at universal studios.
- 4/5
Was ok
- 5/5
nice place
- 2/5
At the time of this writing, the property is under much-needed renovation in some rooms. The hotel room is very big, almost huge, with a fridge and a microwave. We got the room on the second floor, and it had a terrace. AC was newer, but right next to the bed, blowing directly on it, so it was not ideal. The mattress was lumpy. Carpet is as old as a building. Same for bathroom vanity and peeling wallpaper.
- 4/5
We liked that it was really close to universal studios and there was a lot of different option to eat. What we didnt like was mostly the surrounding area and parking was okay. Just wish the parking lines where more wider.
- 3/5
.
- 5/5
Nice place
- 5/5
Clean room , staff was nice and helpful. Arrived at 12:30 and was able to check in early for only $10 parking was $5. The area was safe and clean many stores near by and the bus stop was really close if you plan to not drive around in car.
- 4/5
Good but old.
- 4/5
The room was overall fine, but in need of a deep clean. The linens (sheets and towels specifically) were good, but the pillows (lumpy) and blanket (holes) could do with replacing, and there was a thick layer of dust on the walls. We'd likely stay here again if we aren't able to stay with friends while visiting the area in the future.
- 3/5
I marvel at the hounding the customers relentlessly for reviews for improvement ? How many does it take? The shower has not enough pressure to rinse your hair, the air conditioning unit kept shutting down on its own refusing to start… I requested a upper floor and they stuck me in 122 a shoe box a depressing shoebox! Since June I’ve stayed here over a dozen times ! But you wouldn’t know it.
- 3/5
It’s pretty chill, not sure why I was expecting something nicer but at least have a place to sleep after a long day, 7/10
- 5/5
The room was dirty and damage.
- 5/5
Great location and clean pool!
- 2/5
Continental breakfast was granola bars, coffee and juice. I did like that it had a refrigerator and microwave. Our room, in the back of the hotel backed up to the freeway but the bushes and trees helped with the noise quite a bit.
- 3/5
Staff was great connected to a fun restaurant. Maintenance is horrible and had blood on pillow and bed cover.
- 5/5
Staff is really friendly. The property is great! Just the surrounding area of the property can use a facelift. The room is clean and amenities is great. It’s just a bit outdated. Overall, for the price my stay was enjoyable.
- 4/5
I thought the hotel was nice and clean. If they could upgrade/ update the entertainment to one of those tv’s with apps. They would be great, but other than that my room was fine. I can’t really complain
- 5/5
I love the place always give me a piece of mind
- 3/5
Good service
- 5/5
Good grocery store walk in distance
- 1/5
Floors were completely wet, they must have shampooed but didn’t bother to dry it. The phone didn’t work. WiFi password was wrong. Bed was crazy soft and not supportive at all. The TV was burnt, lights were present in the background of every channel we attempted to watch. Door to the pool is broken, had to reach through the fence to break into the pool area to use it. About the only good thing was the water pressure in the shower. I’ve stayed here before and it was never this bad. I will be requesting a full refund, guy at front desk said he’d waive the 5 dollar charge to park on property. You should give your workers the ability to satisfy guests. Why are you in the hospitality industry if you don’t give your employees any agency.
- 5/5
Great Stay
- 5/5
Nice property
- 4/5
Great!
- 5/5
Far exceeded our expectations! This will definitely be our go to place to stay for future LA Trips!! It just close enough to Universal, Hollywood Blvd, and many other attractions but far enough to not be the price to stay right next to them!!
- 5/5
Excellent
- 4/5
Convenient 👍
- 2/5
Not bad to spen a night only...of a last resort.
- 5/5
Old and somewhat shabby
- 2/5
The place is really rundown. Needs to be remodeled badly.
- 2/5
Room was basic and a bit dark we had a little issue with ants. Front desk were friendly but we still had the issue.
- 3/5
It was fine, nothing special. Clean, good location.
- 3/5
Bathroom full of pants.
- 4/5
Good
- 2/5
The property was undergoing repairs and construction. It made it load in the day time. Also the front office didn’t have a blanket for our bed so we were cold. I do like the fact they are remodeling maybe they can comp us a stay when it’s done. Also 24 spots were burned into the TV in our room whenever I closed my yeti could see them in my sleep
- 5/5
We are very happy with this hotel. We have been here before and will be back for sure.
- 3/5
I like the mikado, I feel at home here and It’s why I stay here so often, And I stay here often! But it doesn’t feel that way when checking in? When booking sometimes I leave a note for the hotel today for instance “please turn air conditioning on prior to check in” but when I check in I don’t know if they read that request? Am I supposed to mention it? But that feels rude? They don’t mention it and neither do I…. I once requested an early check in, did I get it? Idk? They didn’t let me know? I got my room today and no suprise the air wasn’t on and it smelled like cigarettes… I called down and asked for another room and was quickly and pleasantly told to come get a key for a different room just 2 rooms over and I did .. opened the door to my new room and ha! The air was on and it felt Nice! :) but the wi-fi was awful and we were trying to work… I called the desk and asked about the wi fi? And she said give me 5minutes ok? She’s on it ! That was the last we heard from her 6 hours ago…. And the showers are not so good w the pressure ….
- 2/5
The property is a Hidden Gem in the making peaceful respectful we had a beautiful time the staff was extremely nice and accommodating and this place will do really well when it's completely renovated as it's in under partial renovation right now and a special thanks to Toni she was really good with our accommodations ... and the restaurant Sushi Tiki Bar Next Door is excellent and very accommodating also thanks for treating us so well
- 5/5
Superb
- 4/5
A lovely little hotel. Have stayed in LA on many occasions and first time i have had the luxury of a personal balcony. Lovely pool and garden sections. Maid service very polite. Bed comfortable. Would very happily stay here again
- 3/5
The property is showing its age but it’s in a good location and the staff was very nice and helpful.
- 1/5
The room was stinky floor carpet was dirty.
- 1/5
Requested a room by the pool and was told they would do their best. Got to hotel and all the rooms at the pool were boarded up! A detail not previously mentioned ! They gave me a room upper level that was over the pool , but when I entered my room, to my surprise it was a disaster and someone else was in it! I’ve stayed here? Idk 10 times in 3 months and when I went to the desk to inform them, I was treated with apathy and told something like we strive to make your experience better next time!? It was very hot out today and my room with the air running was almost as hot! Last time I was here the cable was out! And two visits prior I had to go to the desk 4 times to get working keys! How many next times until my experience is better? And with all this disarray , why am I charged a $100 deposit? What could I possibly damage? The entire place is damaged ! And while on this rant.. if I pre book and pre pay, why does it still take 15 minutes to check in?? It’s ridiculous! A gesture of a discount or complimentary anything would go far! But not the mikado! Once they have your money they don’t care how all else goes! … thanks for the repeat business sucker!
- 5/5
Nice Feng Shui.
- 3/5
The property was beautiful, I loved the fig tree in the courtyard and the balcony facing it was a treat. The beds were comfortable. Unfortunately, there were a line of black ants on the bathroom counter. The cost was high for this loss of value in the disappointments of minor pests and dated decor and old, but clean tiles. I know they are doing renovations and I look forward to improved value for the cost.
- 1/5
Terrible
- 5/5
Room was good...pool was clean....staff friendly
- 5/5
I always enjoy my stay.
- 3/5
Ok
- 2/5
They were doing construction on the property and it was very loud. The bathrooms are old and outdated and need to do remodeled. The exterior of the property was very nice , especially the pool, hot tub, Japanese garden but the interior of the rooms was a disappointment .
- 5/5
The Mikado is a great property and the owners are in the process if a very long overdue renovation. They need new chaise lounges for the pool.
- 1/5
They charged my credit card without letting me know and when I called they said towels were dirty and they charged me for towel. First time I have seen such ridiculous thing in any hotel. I asked them to fix my shower as there was really little water and lady said she will send someone. I came back to hotel at night and it wasn't fixed and another lady on shift is like our maintenance guy comes in tomorrow and it never got fixed. Worst place I have ever stayed.
- 3/5
Mikado hotel is under going renovations So rooms are limited we kindly asked for floor level due to hauling a wagon of all of our stuffs, FD was able to accommodate that. Did not hear any construction going on when we were in room relaxing. Drive to universal is only 10min from hotel which is a plus Has a good amount of food stuffs around to get or grocery store like Whole Foods or Ralphs Cons: The room we were in had a small ant problem it didn’t bother us it was only in the bathroom/sink area and no where else in the room We had to keep getting new room cards because they stopped working every single damn day, we went thru 5 different cards Parking stalls are small so if you have a bigger car or truck then you will be over the line , but luckily there wasn’t much people staying where we were so being over the line wasn’t a issue , keep that in mind
- 2/5
Very basic, I had a good nights sleep
- 1/5
When we checked in the woman at the counter was a bit rude, but we didn't think much of it, until after only 20 minutes of our stay, we found it had ants and roaches infesting the room. We went to the front counter and the woman acted like we were making it up, asked if it was room 113 (important for later) and tried to put us in a different room. I asked for a refund and she told me to contact Expedia. She has told Expedia that they won't give us a refund. We did more research on this location after all that and it turns out, 113 has bedbugs, as well as the roaches and ants. This place is entire filthy and they WILL NOT GIVE YOU A REFUND. I'm taking them to court over this, avoid the issue entirely if you can.
- 3/5
It's not as clean. Maybe because they are renovating
- 5/5
Downside, they are remodeling with loud equipment. There were a couple ants in the bathroom. The TV remote sucked, maybe it needed new batteries, IDK. All that said I would definitely come back on a different occasion.
- 4/5
It was a resonable price for a vacation. Although it looks not new but cleaning.
- 2/5
Second, the construction was difficult to deal with, but you did move us to a quieter room when we requested it. Third, it is clear that this was once a top flight motel when it opened some sixty or so years ago. However, the carpet was dirty and worn, the bed in the first room, 235, was poor. The TVs in both rooms had some bright light pattern showing through the pictures making them difficult to view. Room 206 had the remains of something stapled to one of the ceiling cross supports. And the upgrades, such as the curtain covering the door to the balcony, were cheaply installed. Unfortunately, I cannot recommend The Mikado until you do some serious renovations. Replace the carpet and install hardwood, or faux hardwood, floors. Install better TVs, and get some platform beds. The place really has some potential.
- 5/5
Excellent
- 5/5
Decent room
- 3/5
Stayed here in March and was satisfied with the price and comfort. Just stayed again and it was higher in price granted it’s summer but under construction right next to our room with power tools starting at 8am having to walk over tools and material on the ground to get outside. Complained but was told there’s a (small) sign next to the counter and they can’t do anything about it. Unfortunate because I enjoyed my stay in March and now don’t think I’ll go back.
- 1/5
Shamoy is awesome and always so willing to help. I stayed here over the course of 2 months and spent several thousand dollars and at the end was so disrespected after issues arose during my last stay. Sharma is the absolute worst, almost unbearable. She shouldn't be on any front desk and that appears to be the consensus by everyone I've discussed her with INCLUDING other guests. This last stay during a heat wave wi/fi, electricity, cable TV and the a/c all went out at separate times for several hours at a time and I was offered a rebate on the $5 parking rate as compensation. I work remote and nobody really seemed to grasp how disruptive these conditions were which is a bit baffling. At the end of my stay and the straw that broke the camels back I asked Sharma for a slghtly later checkout and she kept insisting that 11:30 am was all she could do which is shocking considering the min of 10-20 hours of disruption I faced and was not properly compensated for. When she finally agreed to let me checkout at noon instead of 11am she then said if I don't like the hotel policy (which btw has never been an issue except with Sharma) that I should find another hotel to stay at which indeed we did. We stay at the hotel during the slow part of the week for the hotel then go home for weekend so good going Sharma that is business lost for your employer that they can't actually fill with another guest bc there are plenty of vacancies. Anyway, it had to said.
- 4/5
Kids loved the pool and hot tub. Nice restaurant next door.
- 4/5
I stayed on the Riverside Drive side and was happy with the noise level. You can still hear cars but it’s pretty soft. Guessing it would have been much noisier on the side facing the freeway. Big fridge (for a hotel/motel) and it was great to have. Microwave and coffeemaker also in the room. No elevator/lift but I wouldn’t have used it anyway, stairs were fine. If you have heavy luggage maybe ask for a ground floor room. Bottom line - if you want value for money I think this place strikes the perfect balance. It’s not luxury but it’s clean, safe and in my opinion well worth the money. I think three stars is the right rating. Again, expect a few odd things that would be unacceptable in a luxury hotel but enjoy the fact that accepting and even finding the fun in these things saved you hundreds of dollars to put to other aspects of your trip.
- 1/5
The room was filthy & smelled like urine.
- 3/5
It’s good!
- 5/5
This place is great I love it! You love it to now go love it!
- 5/5
The staff was friendly. The pool area, room and bathroom were really clean. I’d stay here again.
- 4/5
Although she’s an older lady, showing obvious signs of wrinkles and stretch marks, the Mikado is a wonderful hotel that we have frequented over these many years.
- 2/5
Love the place. I know the area. Thus visit, the olace was dirty. Carpet damp. Toilet backed up.
- 4/5
If they sell me a parking pass and the parking pass is displayed on the dash why do they break my balls over the make model color and plate?
