Reviews
The hotel receives mixed reviews with guests appreciating the clean, comfortable rooms and beautiful views of the golf course, but expressing disappointment with the lack of resort amenities, poor service, and overpriced, underwhelming restaurant. The staff's friendliness is inconsistent, with some guests praising their helpfulness while others find them rude and overworked.
- Clean, comfortable rooms with beautiful views
- Friendly staff in some instances
- Lack of resort amenities despite resort fee
- Overpriced, poor quality restaurant with rude staff
- 2/5
The staff were extremely helpful, the rooms, furniture and amenities were very dated. The quality of the property isn’t what I expected and unfortunately I would not consider coming back.
- 5/5
This is my second time staying here, and I absolutely love it! The property is beautiful and it’s quiet.
- 5/5
We were very impressed by this property. Staff was very helpful, rooms clean and well maintained. On site restaurant very convenient. Location central to greater Newport News area. Would definitely stay again.
- 4/5
Nice setting, quiet, loved the balcony. It is shared, not private. Bed is comfy. Bathroom is tiny. Walls are thin. I could hear our neighbor’s tv into the wee hours and then clearly heard their morning routine. Staff is friendly. It was a quick one night stay for us. The balcony made the room worth - golf course not true nature but still pretty.
- 5/5
Keeps me and my family coming back when visiting our daughter at CNU
- 5/5
Yes parking was easy
- 4/5
Clean room with nice finishing touches. Overlooked golf course.
- 5/5
Clean. Great location. Big room. Soft was clothes.
- 5/5
Beautiful spacious room!
- 5/5
Room was clean and nice size. Staff was extremely courteous and helpful. Victoria at the onsite restaurant was exceptional
- 5/5
The room was absolutely beautiful. It is the most quiet stay I have ever had in any facility in my life. As long as the price is right, I will probably always stay there when I come to the area rather than one of the local hotels. It was so convenient to have a restaurant on site that served breakfast, lunch, and dinner. The staff is very nice, but it’s odd that there’s no one working there throughout the night. But, I understand it’s not a conventional hotel. There is access to security if anything is needed.
- 5/5
The rooms were clean, and the beds were very comfortable. The food was awesome.
- 5/5
Amazing property! Contactless check in was a breeze! Room was beautiful and very clean and the food at the restaurant on the property is amazing as well! We will be back for sure!
- 5/5
Outside access
- 5/5
It was an absolutely amazing experience. Definitely better than what I paid for. Would stay there again in a heartbeat.
- 5/5
Friendly staff, room was clean and comfortable and just as pictured. Food at the restaurant was great. No complaints! Would highly recommend staying here.
- 3/5
the tub handle was loose and the furniture was scratched & worn. Also the outdoor covered seating area for the Nest restaurant had a leak and when it rained the water came down like a torrential waterfall. We were wet by the time we walked through to reach our room (which was right off the restaurant). We had quite a few problems with our check in that encompassed several hours trying to get it resolved. Finally, Hailey ( the restaurant mgr) was kind enough to help us with the issue. We thought we were going to have to stay at another hotel before she got involved. We truly appreciate her efforts.
- 5/5
Absolutely and always an amazing hotel with excellent atmosphere, rooms, staff and food:)
- 5/5
Great room. Biscuits and gravy were delicious.
- 5/5
I didn't get a chance to use the spa, and I didn't have pets with me. The room was very clean and nicely decorated. I enjoyed the balcony very much as well.
- 3/5
Cell service was non-existent in the room, no complimentary water in rooms, or vending machines to even purchase one at night. "Pillow top" matress was really a thin matress cover over a very firm mattress. Dehumidifier flooded our room the first night, and we had to move. (We were told after the fact there SHOULD HAVE BEEN signage on it not to touch it...(but there was no such sign.) Excited to enter the room to see the ipad for guest services and music (until i figured out they were completely unresponsive.) Front desk said they were old. (???) sidenote...guess it was "OLD" in the second room too, because it was unresponsive in that room too. When i asked about the bathroom fan not working, i was told it was "silent". (Not so sure there is such a thing as an absolutely SILENT bath fan). Whatever. The property is beautiful, and feels safe. Wanted to golf, but the pro shop doesnt have rental clubs (???) Agree with another reviewer that the "shared" patio furniture is a bit problematic when the place is booked solid...because the table between my room and the next was dragged to the other room before i could get out there to sit down...so i had to drag from another room. All rooms should have their own. Restaurant food was good. Dont even think about eating outside...the flies swarm you as soon as your food is served. And...why the fancy table settings in your room-no room service?

Lovely property, easy to access, appreciated not having to trek through hotel lobby, up elevators, etc. to get to room. Comfortable and nicely appointed rooms with many extras: high-top table/barstools, microwave, mini fridge (with freezer), porcelain dishes (plates, coffee cups, saucers), cloth napkins, glass decanter and DOF glasses, corkscrew, full complement of travel toiletries (razor, toothbrush/toothpaste, vanity kit, shower cap, etc.). Would definitely stay again!
- 5/5
Clean, friendly staff, high quality furniture, and easy access to the building. Would stay here again!
- 3/5
Nice place, very tranquil, and friendly staff. Though a bit dated and there's no elevator.
- 5/5
All the employees were super nice and restaurant there is amazing
- 5/5
This property was beautiful. The restaurant there was amazing and customer service was top tier. Hats off to the chefs. They definitely cooked that food with love. I went during some events they were throwing there because it’s also an event space. Even though they had the music going it wasn’t to loud. I still enjoyed my room very much. Would definitely stay here again.
- 4/5
This property is very cute. The welcome desk location in relation to the rooms isn't ideal. It was also a little strange that guest rooms are so near public event spaces. Otherwise, a very cute and comfy place!
- 5/5
The room was nice and large, very comfortable and quiet. The area is very clean with attractive buildings and lots of trees and foliage. The Nest restaurant has great food options; everything we ate was delicious. All staff was very respectful and helpful.
- 5/5
This is an amazing surprise! Hidden gem at Newport News. We love everything about the hotel! Great room, service and restaurant on site is wonderful! We have a lovely stay!!!
- 5/5
The customer service was outstanding at this property. I have no idea how we received VIP status, unless Expedia arranged this, but my kids and I were given the 5 star treatment, including vouchers to use in the restaurant. I highly recommend this property to anyone staying in the area.
- 3/5
So so visit. Pros: attentive staff at the Nest, clean, safe. Cons: The property needs to be freshened up. The room was uncomfortable because it was humid and the air was not circulating.
- 4/5
The hotel was incredible. I loved it!!! I would definitely stay again.
- 5/5
Clean, quiet and convenient.
- 4/5
Enjoyed it with my husband. Relaxing, patio area and great little restaurant.
- 5/5
Everything was great.
- 5/5
I went into my room and immediately I felt comfortable to stay there the food was great
- 5/5
I was truly impressed by the warm and generous hospitality this resort extends to its guests. From the moment I checked in until I checked out, every detail was carefully attended to, making for an outstanding experience. If you're considering a venue for an event, I wholeheartedly recommend this resort. During my stay, I had the pleasure of witnessing both a retirement party and a birthday celebration, and it was clear that the staff goes above and beyond to ensure everything is perfect. You definitely won't be disappointed!
- 5/5
This is a wonderful property!! Highly recommend.
- 5/5
This is our first time at this resort hotel and so happy we chose to stay here. My husband and I loved the bed and the pillows. The room is very clean, spacious and has nice high ceiling. It is close to Busch Gardens which is just 20 minutes away and half a hour to the beach. We rate this10/10 and we will definitely stay here again.
- 5/5
Everything wonderful
- 5/5
Amazing room. Everything was provided and very clean. The shower was amazing. Note there are no elevators so the upstairs (2nd floor) requires steps. Not extreme but worth keeping in mind when making a reservation.
- 4/5
Overall good stay. The property is on a golf course community. The lodging itself is not very big at all. It was very clean. The room was very spacious. The onsite restaurant was has good options. Parking was free and easily accessible. The CONS were room sound proofing is almost non-existent. Luckily though it was quiet by 930pm. While the room was very clean and spacious… for me the bed was a bit too firm and the pillows were very big. My husband on the other hand thought the firm bed was so comfortable. I guess it’s all about your preference. LOL.
- 5/5
This is a great hidden gem IMHO. If you’re a golfer, it’s a no-brainer but my wife & I enjoyed the location and atmosphere even though we didn’t come for the golf course. The on-site restaurant was great both times we dined there and was literally feet from our room. Staff was friendly and accommodating. Great value for the money. Would stay there again.
- 5/5
Great boutique hotel. Very nice, will stay again!
- 5/5
Very nice and clean
- 5/5
Great Hotel
- 3/5
Staff was very helpful, Nest restaurant struggled to get our food in a timely manner. Way too many routes to find and get to my room. The price was almost double what I could’ve get for the same time kid more amenities elsewhere and I didn’t like a conjoined room for the price. I wouldn’t stay there again. I could hear people’s every move and stomping was outrageous throughout the stay. Again staff was amazing though
- 5/5
Great value. Comfortable bed. Excellent service. Great brunch.
- 5/5
I enjoyed my stay immensely! The room was beautiful! Everything was perfect!!! The staff was wonderful!!!

Nothing

Thank You for the experience at the Lodge. New Year’s Eve is my wife’s birthday, and then New Years . Thank You and God Bless
- 4/5
Very convenient location for shopping.
- 3/5
Breakfast which I paid extra to have included. Also we didn’t put and not disturb on the door since there was no cleaning service we were told, so we were work up by the VERY Sweet cleaning lady! She came everyday and honestly on the Whole property she was the only friendly and kind staff.
- 5/5
The hotel had beautiful rooms. Bed was extremely comfortable. Nice view of the golf course. Staff was friendly.
- 4/5
The people were wonderful- from the front desk (Jordan and Queen) to the servers/bar staff. The room itself could use a little help though. The bed was great- but carpet and paint seemed dated. There were stains on carpet and paint needed a touch up for sure..
- 5/5
Very nice hotel. Room was spacious and quiet even with an event happening in the ball room. The furnishings and linens were of a very high quality. We will be staying there agaun when the opportunity presents itself.
- 5/5
The staff is amazing, very help, professional, and friendly.
- 3/5
I booked this hotel expecting a true resort stay. There was an event that shut down the restaurant, and there was no advanced notice of that when booking. The heat lamp and fan in the bathroom were broken, and the room smelled a little musty from what appeared to be a small leak from the AC unit or patio door. They advertise room service on their website, but it’s not true room service, just the restaurant sending up take out orders or you going to get them. The hotel was overall pleasant and clean, but disappointing for what I had been expecting.
- 3/5
Super Friendly Staff ... however; there were teenage kids hanging out in room next to ours until 2am and a barking dog in the other ... this is the only reason why my rating / review isn't higher
- 5/5
Perfect time out for me and my husband. We just loss our mom and needed a weekend to reset
- 5/5
Great staff
- 5/5
Lovely
- 5/5
Everything was great, except I thought that free breakfast was included, turned out to be a ten dollar credit coupon...
- 5/5
Very nice!
- 5/5
Loved everything about it!
- 5/5
The rooms were quiet, clean, and well equipped.
- 5/5
The room was beautiful and the staff were excellent!
- 5/5
Ivey and the whole team at Kiln Creek always make it a comfortable and enjoyable stay when I'm in tonw for business.... it's become my go-to place with it's great on-site restaurant and excellent /comfortable rooms and great staff.
- 4/5
Staff was excellent and always accommodating. The NEST restaurant food is probably some of the best in the area—best to make a reservation as they get busy!
- 3/5
I got a great rate off-season but the restaurant was closed (so free breakfast wasn't available...and no food on the property). I paid for golf there and they charged me full rate despite staying with them...and course was really too wet to play. Room shower was also very low pressure with luke warm water...not a resort experience even with the discounted rate.
- 5/5
I love staying here as it's tucked away ( even nicer these days...) and has a food on-site and the staff is excellent.... great comfortable rooms and excellent linen and supplies.
- 5/5
All inclusive resort. NEST Kitchen and Taphouse with breakfast till 4pm - my momma relaxation staycation hotel.
- 4/5
The facilities were wonderful. The service was superb. My only complaint was the furniture. Although beautiful, the raised table in the room was not comfortable and the desk chair was uncomfortable. The mattress was fine, very firm. The height of the bed was extreme.
- 4/5
Very nice hotel . the Bathroom is VERY SMALL but nice with nice toiletries . located right on gulf course. Very clean and sanitized. Took forever to find food delivery, the restaraunt aas closed due to power outage
- 5/5
I love this tucked away place- off the beaten path but great service and an excellent restaurant and setting....
- 3/5
The floor in the restaurant area needs cleaning or replacing. Our room (102) was nice BUT bathroom was 1) a bit tight, and 2) the toilet was not secured to the floor, and 3) the shower was not well finished.
- 5/5
The area and property was beautiful. The restaurant food was fantastic and the staff was very nice. Highly recommend.
- 5/5
Amazing clean welcoming will definitely stay here again
- 5/5
I love this property! The staff was attentive and did an excellent job accommodating any request. The rooms were adorable and thankfully very clean. The food and view of the gold course from the veranda was nice each morning. I’d definitely stay again!
- 4/5
Nice place! Would stay here again. Our only complaint would be that the air conditioner and air humidifier in the room were very loud at night.
- 3/5
I really thought it was a little bit outrageous that they made us pay for early check in when we arrived at 1.30pm and had to pay $20. I also asked for a late check out(12 instead of 11 am) and they wanted to charge me other $20 for a late check out. Usually even 5 stars hotels allow you to stay until noon with no extra charge.
- 2/5
Property overall nice. Staff nice. Food was good. BUT, Rooms old and hotel part of property is way outdated and a bad value for what is. Way overpriced.
- 5/5
The facility was beautiful, the staff was very friendly and helpful and the breakfast was delicious. I regret that I went through Expedia and I will never use this sight again. Poor service.
- 5/5
Our room was very clean great view from our room of the golf course.
- 4/5
A good quiet place to stay with friendly staff. A short drive from town, but easy to drive.
- 4/5
Very nice golf course and surrounding area. Easily accessible from major freeway
- 5/5
We don't play golf, so we're not the target audience but the room was nice.
- 4/5
I absolutely 💘 the location. The room was clean and comfortable, however the walls are a bit thin. I could hear normal conversational talking in the adjoining room.
- 5/5
Amazing
