Holiday Inn Newport News - Hampton by IHG

My stay was nice. The room was cool, the beds and bathroom were clean and smelled fresh. The beds were very comfortable. The receptionist was efficient and kind getting me checked in. Buuuut…. The pool looked like a swamp. There was an oily film over the water and the color of the way looked like a few dozen homeless people had bathed in it. It was absolutely disgusting. So the only way this hotel can improve in my experience is to CLEAN THE DAMN POOL!

Close to freeway Not very dog friendly, no good area for dogs to go to the bathroom or any dog bags, the dispensary was empty!

We stayed from Friday to Wednesday and our room was never cleaned. The front desk was helpful in providing clean towels and plastic bags for trash and explained they were low on staff. The team at Burger Theory: Cece and staff were great!

Location is superb for visiting CNU. FREE breakfast & in room coffee is a plus, especially that waffle maker! Pillows were super fluffy too. Highway noise was constant hum. Carpeting thruout Hotel was taped here and there, showing its age. Shower head pressure was so strong that it knocked wind out of my lower extremities. Felt slippery standing in tub as well.

Great location great staff the and properties a little rundown my wife was sneezing all morning because of the carpet in the room to think about either taking that carpet out replacing it with hard floors, just really gets into the sinuses, especially in the Virginia with all the allergies. The outlets didn’t work for my adapter in the room. The shower was super noisy and created a puddle all taking a shower approximately 4 to 6 inches. The beds were comfortable.

Initial impression was good with the room layout Where should I start. I was awakened from a reasonably sound sleep by a loud buzzing noise coming from the bathroom area of room 716. I called the front desk and was informed that the hotel was on auxiliary power due to a "power surge." After some period of time, I called the front desk and was informed that the buzzing would continue, and that unfortunately nothing could be done. When I asked about the cost of the $199 plus taxes and fees room, I was informed by the front desk manager " that's above my pay grade." This room should have been comped immediately, and the front desk manager should have been able to take care of that. To expect any guest to pay for a room where there's a constant loud buzzing going off in the electrical closet, right next to the guests room is absurd. I became aware of this at 2340 hrs, and it's still buzzing steadily at 0016 hrs. Bottom line, the management of this hotel, which should be in the business of assuring the customer's experience is pleasant, failed miserably, and to this point is refusing to adequately compensate this guest for an egregious inconvenience. Post script..... See the second video for our roommate the roach.... My recommendation, find other accomodations.

The restaurant and hotel were very clean and well-maintained. The staff was extremely accommodating and made our stay comfortable. They honored our request to have our rooms right next door to each other, which made everything so easy and convenient for our group. We truly appreciated their attention to detail and hospitality. I would definitely recommend staying here. It appeared that the hotel and the surrounding area were still under construction. The landscaping outside was not fully completed, and excavation equipment and large construction machinery were present throughout the parking garage and nearby areas. This made the exterior and parking area less visually appealing during our stay.

Large poop pen space hotel with large pool area. The restaurant@ Burger Theory, had limited menu and certain basic items were out such as olive and vinegar salad dressing and ice tea.

The pool heating system was broken so we were unable to use it. The property seemed just secluded

Staff (Becky) was outstanding! She was patient (EXTREMELY) while I was seeking to resolve a booking issue. The mgr CALLED when booking.com combined my first and last name in the reservation. The calls and extra responsiveness from this team made all the difference! It was appreciated. No breakfast w/o am addl fee. Free breakfast is why I typically choose HI… somehow missed that it wasn’t included and that was pretty disappointing.

We came for the pool. I book rooms on travel so my kiddo has a place to swim but the heater was broken. It was really cold. We tried but couldn’t. Never saw anyone else in the pool during the couple days we were there. Rooms were nice and clean. Housekeeping did a great job! The price was overrated for what you get. Pool didn't look clean so I didn't swim. Had to checkout on Friday and for the weekend cause the rates jumped from $129/night to $250/night with tax just because it was the weekend. Found a fantastic option in Williamsburg at the Club Wyndham Kingsgate Resort where they had 2 huge "heated "clean indoor and outdoor pools, full gym and plenty of amenities that are all included. That was a 2 bedroom apartment with ensuite bathrooms and full size kitchen with dinning and seating area for just $200 for 2 nights. I have worked in the hospitality industry for over 25years all over the world and I can say it was so worth every $. Basically a give away. Perfect for a family & location! Only 25mins away. Wonderful 5 star customer service. Excellent choice. Definitely looking forward for my next trip!

Check was slightly confusing. Room was switched to double queen bed room without telling us. Apparently none of the pull out couch beds are doubles as stated online when we booked. Water pressure was very weak for showers. The thermostat is clearly centrally controlled and obviously on lock out- fan won't turn on. It did not matter if that we attempted to turn heat up on a 20 degree night, the room was cold. Also had gotten my kids excited for an indoor pool- brought our swimsuits, only to get there and have the "pool heater unavailable" stated on the door. The pool room and water were freezing, could not even attempt to swim. The Burger theory staff and staff at the breakfast buffet were amazing- friendly and accommodating and food was very good. All in all would not pick this hotel again if we return to the area.

Have tried to insert photo but the site won’t allow. We’re from NYC so we know a cockroach when we see one. My son took it to the front desk to complain (evening of 10/27/25) and the hotel employee assured him that the room rate would be lowered to compensate for being grossed out. Discovered when checking out that the employee was just giving him lip service. Booked through Expedia so rate couldn’t be changed. This bug could have been brought in via someone’s luggage with no fault at all to the hotel. I’m sure that happens. But I’ve used Holiday Inns forever and this was a bit disappointing, especially with a front desk employee of theirs not being truthful right to our face.

It was great overall! I had trouble finding a working ice machine - literally went to like every floor before asking the front desk. That was really the only problem I had. Pool was decent, gym was kind of small but had the essentials. The attached restaurant was delicious and the servers were super nice!

Pretty standard service and amenities for Holiday Inn. We look only stayed one night on the way to a week at the beach. There's a very nice indoor pool that we didn't have time to check out.

Very convenient. We had a dog with us and my mobility is not great, walk in shower perfect. The lady at check-in very kind, helpful. (Saturday night, she got off at 11 pm. Kudos to her. Hotel was full, lots going on.)

The staff was great and so was the food and the property. There is just no noise buffering. You could hear EVERY noise on the floor. We moved rooms once because you could hear the loud neighbors that arrived after us. Sounded like they were in our room. Then our next spot we heard way worse after we went to bed. For hours between music blaring and people’s extremely personal activities. We couldn’t even sleep. Couldn’t even complain and risk waking our daughter up to those noises.Thank goodness our daughter slept through it. So my husband and I just suffered. The cracks under the doors let EVERY noise in the hallway sound like it was in our room.

It’s a room to sleep in. Rooms smell like pets have been in it and old but was atleast clean if that makes any sense. When we checked in we didn’t have a shower curtain and had to ask again 8 hours later into the evening when we got back. We had a terrible room on the first floor inbetween the elevator that was loud and burger theory so you heard all of the foot traffic and people even at 7 am on Sunday and Monday morning. Or people coming and going from the loud dinging noise of the elevator. Fine for a weekend stay and not bad enough to go find another hotel but wouldn’t be staying here again. I’ve stayed at much nicer holiday inns. The one in Williamsburg by Busch gardens is much nicer and cleaner.

We didn’t have enough towels and it took hours before the night staff brought us some. Our sink was completely clogged to where my husband had to empty it so we could wash our hands or brush our teeth the make the water drain. The breakfast you had to sit in the restaurant and could not get to go or even get a coffee to go and the wait staff were not very friendly and seemed irritated we only wanted an appetizer that evening. The price of the room we expected a bit more. Understandable there were softball teams and it was CNU graduation but for the price we expected a bit more. Wasn’t horrible but won’t stay there again for the price

This hotel fit my needs for this particular trip, its 10 minutes from PHF. The only issue for me was the housekeeping. My room on some days was partially taken care of or not at all.

I went to the front desk and asked for towels for the pool because there were no towels at the pool. I was told by the front desk that all towels were in the dryer. I was not offered to be notified when they would be ready. I was informed by the front desk to just put on a clean shirt.

Book elsewhere, breakfast is add on charge, which would not be as bad if it was decent but its not. Also breakfast doesnt open until 600 m-f and not until 7 a.m. sat and sun. Honestly guys breakfast needs to start at 530 everday.

The check in process was easy and the front desk attendant was welcoming. I checked in late at night and I stayed for two nights. The room was what you'd expect for the average hotel room. The large window allowed for a lot of natural light which was nice. The bed was comfortable. Unfortunately, there were multiple roaches of varying size scurrying around in the bathroom, half a dozen white stains all over the carpet, and there was a stain on the bed sheets. I informed the front desk and showed her pictures of the bugs and stains so that they will hopefully address the issue before allowing another guest to stay in the room. I needed a plate and silverware on my 2nd night there so that I could enjoy leftovers I brought into the hotel. I asked the front desk attendant if they had a plate and silverware. He provided plasticware which was fine but suggested I heat my food up on menus and handed me two paper menus from behind the front desk. The hotel has a restuarant that obviously has plates so his suggestion was a bit odd and unsanitary. I declined his menus and I opted to go down to the restaurant myself to see if they would provide me with a plate and they happily did. I personally would not stay at this hotel again due to the bugs and stains in the room. Cleanliness was definitely an issue.

We stayed at Omni because we needed to be at the regional hospital at 530am. This hotel is the finest hotel I've ever stayed at. Beautiful inside with quite a history. We were able to relax before a stressful day. Thank you Omni staff. So friendly and accommodating.

We enjoyed our stay, despite a few issues but overall it was nice. However, I don't like the fact that breakfast is free at every other Holiday Inn we have stayed at, but if we wanted breakfast every morning, ee had to pay at a very expensive restaurant located inside the hotel.

Clean and comfy

Staff was friendly and helpful from the front desk to restaurant staff. Hotel and room were very clean. Indoor pool was very nice. Quiet area but good location near interstate, restaurants, etc.

We had such a great experience with check-in and the room was so clean and kept up nicely. Very comfortable bedding and since it’s tucked away it was very quiet.

What a breath of fresh air and relief! I definitely enjoyed my stay here.

I did like the breakfast and the Burger Theory bar and restaurant. Food was good. I did not like the premium king suite we had. Ceiling in hotel room was popcorn, fixture in bathroom and night stands were old. The bathroom vanity was discolored snd the legs were rusted. The tub had a rust ring in the middle. Hallway carpet was worn and missing in spots.

Clean safe comfortable place

I like almost everything except the noise. We got a room next to another family with 3 kids. When the parents allowed the kids to come out and play in front of the elevator, which was the same area as my room door and theirs, it was very noisy and disturbed us. And the area in front of the room is also a pass-through area for everyone going to the pool. When people walked by, they would make noise into our room. And at around 11:00 pm, in the room with the kids, we heard the kids crying very loudly and the parents arguing loudly. We were woke-up and could not sleep again. I felt that it was unfair. We paid for the room but why are we not given the same comfort as everyone else? The hotel should know that families with kids are noisy and should be kept away from others or put together with people with kids.

We have stayed here a number of times when we are visiting our son at college. The bed is always comfortable and the room is clean. However this visit we were placed in the middle of a group of very rude people. I had to call the front desk at 1 am to complain about them playing loud music, banging on doors, and yelling loudly in their rooms and hallways. Then they continued again 8am the next morning. I understand there isn't too much the hotel can do about other people's rudeness, however if you know there is a large group of people staying in the hotel why would you put my husband and I right in the middle of them? They should have had their own floor if you ask me. They were SO RUDE...no concept of others. We're really not sure if we will stay here again.

Great experience

I stayed there for 5 nights. I had to report a roach in the tub the first night. They were booked so I couldn't get another room. They said it was taken care of. My 3rd stay, there were three in my tub. They did have another on a different floor, on the other end of the hallway. We changed rooms at 2am. That night, there another bug in the tub. So I will not be staying there again or recommend anyone else to stay there.

The hotel looks nice, parking was good and the staff was pleasant. I reserved 3 rooms and 2 of them had roaches. The staff was kind enough to credit my account for one night on one room. We saw roaches the morning of our last day

The hotel was nice, plenty if parking, nice staff. My only complaint would be not having ice on every floor. They had Dove products in the bathroom and a keurig in the room.
