Reviews
The hotel's location is its strongest asset, with guests consistently praising its proximity to Central Park and public transportation. However, the quality of the rooms and facilities varies greatly, with some guests finding them clean and adequate, while others describe them as dirty and outdated. The shared bathroom situation is a common complaint, with guests often finding them unclean and in disrepair.

The location of the property is excellent, it is right next to Central Park and it is very easy to walk to the Subway on 59th street. The rooms are good value for money given this location Whilst this place is a budget friendly stay even despite this the rooms are pretty poor, we had a 6 bed room - 3 beds had normal pillows, 3 had what was basically bin bags to sleep on. The air con is welcome but the room is never chilled, the bathrooms too down the hall were usually dirty and getting hot water was not always possible - we were staying on the 9th floor and it did appear that the bathroom facilities in the 10th were much better so maybe our floor just needed modernising.

The sfe in 821 is large enogh for a large computer. The property is a few blocks from the bus and subway links at Columbus Circle. I met friendly visiters from around the world. I could readily watch news in the room 821. The door at 821 did not close unless it was forcefully shut. There were issues in the men's room on the eighth floor. There was no latch on a toilet stall. The soap dispenser near the door had no soap for three days. The shower near the store had a hand-held shower head that did not fit any of the supports; it had to be held to spray the user. There is no restaurant in the bulding.

You can’t beat this location / basic rooms but fairly clean. A fridge would have been nice Staff aren’t always friendly

Location is fantastic. The price is not terrible for New York. The bathrooms are disgusting. The AC in the room doesn't work properly, so it's hard to be in the room in the summer. You can hear everything from the other rooms, so starting from 6am you'll just hear everyone in the corridor banging their doors and it's difficult to get some sleep.

I didn’t like anything. But The location was fine . Not very clean, there was just one pillow in the room and it was a terrible fabric, they just gave me on towel for all my stay, dirty bathrooms. The staff was rude. Not staying again

The location is perfect, excellence. The room is small but clean and comfortable. The first bed and room I had, I had to be move to another room because of the mattress and the spring in the mattress was not comfortable to sleep on. I did not like the attitude of some of the staff at the front desk. not friendly and the tone of their voice. I was ask if I was checking out because the mattress was uncomfortable to sleep on.

Location close to Central Park. Bed was squeaky, the toilets and showers are in a very bad state! So dirty and needs a major overhaul. Worst one I have seen. The hotel staff are very rude and refuses to help. Staff do not know what customer service means. The two staff pictured here just have the worst attitude!
- 4/5
The location was excellent. minutes walk to metro, central park, 5th avenue and other NY attractions. The building is old and in need of a facelift. however, the price was so good that you overlook that and enjoy the great location. It needs some repairs. the bunk bed in our room needed to be tighten and adjusted, the bath room door didn't operate property. the halls and doors need a coat of paint.
- 4.5/5
The room itself was what you would expect for a hostel. Quite small with a bunk bed but still big enough - especially if you're not planning on spending a lot of time in the room. The YMCA is super close to a major subway station - literally a 2 minute walk so that is super convenient for exploring the city. Also super close to Central Park. The staff was very friendly and accommodating. It was however quite noisy at night - you can definitely hear absolutely everything going on in the corridors and neighbouring rooms so bear that in mind. Other than that everything was pretty much what you would expect for a YMCA hostel type space.

Excellent location. Bathrooms (on corridor) need complete renovation. There should be at least a few microwaves, and hot drink machines, for guests. The place just feels like a moneymaking machine.

For the amount paid, the room was far too compact and lacked adequate space for a comfortable stay Despite rooms being available, the hotel did not accommodate an early check-in request. I had to check out at around 8:00 AM and was hoping for some flexibility, but none was offered. This was disappointing and affected the overall experience. Extra charge applied for baggage room.

location there is no hot water in the afternoon. at best it was tepid/cool have been staying at hostels and "Y"s last 50 yrs this was the worst, in a long time was not always like this. water temp since late 2025. I have always said if I wanted a 4-star experience I would stay at a 4-star hotel. however, a room that does not have chipped paint, blinds that actually work, AC that does more than make noise, and finally HOT WATER is the experience I do not want.

Location was amazing. Half a block from central park and half a block from lincoln center. Staff were very pleasant and helpful. It was absolutely filthy and not maintained. There was a giant hole in the bathroom wall. One of the three showers didn’t work and half the sinks didn’t work. The window air conditioner was full of dirt and it looked like no one has bothered to mop the floors in years. The room had a bed with a single pillow, a table/desk, folding chain, a tv and an overhead light. Nothing fancy, but serviceable, except for the overhead light which kind of randomly blinked to different brightnesses.

LOCATION LOCATION LOCATION! Good location and value in the block between Central Park West and Lincoln Center, a few blocks north of Columbus Circle. Digital room key card provides security with respect to elevator access for residence floors and to semi-private bathrooms. Building Security provided by a 24-hour guard near building entry door. Semi-private bathrooms better than expected with respect to facilities, privacy, and cleanliness/maintenance. Pleasant and light, south-facing guest lobby. 24-hour reception staff was efficient and congenial. Good wifi reception although not secure. Close to bus and subway transport. Multiple elevators worked perfectly in this 12-story building. There is a pool and gym although I did not have occasion to use them. Small refrigerator provided in rooms. Large luggage storage room if needed, with a dedicated daytime attendant and efficient check-in system. No serious complaints given the price, but a few thoughts. No water fountains on residence floors, only on the lobby floor. Other than snacks and sodas in a few vending machines, there is no cafe or beverage/food service in the building - closest was Starbucks at the corner. There is a "per bag" charge for guests who need to store luggage prior to check-in time or after checking out, and the luggage storage room closes at 7pm. Limited lighting and electrical outlets in the private bunk room assigned to me. Bed linens were clean, but mattress/pillow not the most comfortable.

The location is amazing& really the only thing that justifies the price point. Not too much footfall for the bathrooms in the morning which was good considering the 2 broken showers Rooms need refreshing, some paint & new mattresses. The location is perfect. The property sits on the 63rd so right on Central Park and 4 streets to Columbus Circle metro station. The facilities though, starting from the room itself, are a bit old, not really well maintained and having an odour. Not something you will not get used to but at first it si a bit striking. I understand that this is a really cheap place by NYC standards, so you get what you pay and that is true. But judging by the fact that I saw many many - and I mean many - people staying there during my stay, I guess there could be some small reno work to straighten things up or at least lose the sense of neglect. I stayed on my own and honestly I can stay at places lowering my standards, but I probably wouldn't recommend it to someone. At least someone who could spare a little bit more cash.

Central Park location. Small fridge in the room. Great staff :) Shower facility. But ain’t a deal-breaker.

Location is excellent, quiet outside and inside. Facilities for semiprivate bathrooms need renovation and more frequent maintenance. Showerheads are old. The handicapped bathroom has a broken seat. Toilet paper can run out. Two bathrooms had faulty faucets. The building entrance should have a ramp, considering all of the people who arrive with heavy luggage.

The upgraded room had an exposed shaft with an old filthy radiator inside ..This I covered with a towel to also keep out the cold air. The room was the.last on the far right of the hall ..an outer wall room w greater exposure to cold air. So the room was cold. Do.not expect more than 1 clothes hanger and be glad you got that
