Reviews
The hotel is praised for its excellent location, with many guests highlighting its proximity to popular attractions and transportation. The staff is consistently described as friendly and helpful. However, the room size is a common complaint, with guests finding it too small for comfort. Additionally, some guests have experienced issues with hot water availability.

Great location. Clean rooms and friendly staff. 2nd floor room faced 35th street and it was very noisy. Only way to help was to run the air conditioning non stop.

The staff were really nice, helpful and lovely. I feel bad that everything else was bad because they were so friendly and helpful. The hotel was absolutely not what I expected, which was really surprising because it was rated highly. The rooms were tiny. There was only one elevator for the full building. I could hear all the street noise and woke up to construction, drilling, and garbage trucks. I understand it's New York City, but when I searched how much other hotels around the area cost, they were only slightly more expensive and way better quality, period. This hotel was definitely not worth what it cost.
- 2/5
The accommodations were sparse but comfortable. The problem was street construction noise at 2:50 AM. Jack Hammering woke me up out of deep sleep. I had informed staff when I checked in at 6 pm that I was a light sleeper and could not handle that kind of noise through the night. They assured me it would not be a problem. When I requested a change of rooms at 3 am. They were not able to accommodate me.

My girlfriend arrived before check-in & was able to drop her bags off. Once the room was ready the staff had already moved her bags into the room for us. Everyone was very friendly. Once I arrived between midnight and 1am I had to wait in the lobby for almost 10 minutes until someone came to the front desk to check me in.

Location was good and price versus location wins. The room is too small. If you’re traveling alone and packing light, it’s manageable, but with another person it feels overwhelming.

The location was great, easy walk to GCS, Empire State, longer walks to Broadway/ Times Square but certainly doable. The rooms are TINY but clean and comfortable. Staff was friendly and accommodating. There was construction going on in the hotel which has a very narrow entranceway. There is a restaurant advertised but maybe there was before the Starbucks moved in the space??It is not quiet within the hotel, you hear every door slamming shut, people talking etc. Hallways are very narrow.Tried calling the hotel for 3 days before arriving, found out that their phone lines were down and sometimes their internet because of the construction. I wish they would have had a temporary disclaimer on their website.

Great location in Koreatown, about a block away from the Empire State Building and the 34th-Herald Square station. Plenty of shops and restaurants within a 5-10 minute walk. My wife and I were wary about booking here but are so glad we did! For the price, it exceeded our expectations. The room was clean, decent size for NYC, housekeeping was everyday, nicely decorated, the bathroom was newly renovated and staff was friendly. 10/10 we would stay here again!
- 4/5
Good value for money, basic but comfortable clean rooms! The staff was very friendly and the location was safe and central. It was quite noisy at night and sometimes hard to sleep.
- 5/5
Staff was great, especially John. Helped with parking strategy, and also suggested some places to visit around the area. The location was perfect, within the heart of Manhattan. Affordable, Pricing was not bad taken that lodging it is more expensive uptown; it was still affordable and convenient to our trip itinerary.
- 5/5
The cleaning crew also did a fantastic job. The room was always spotless, organized, and refreshed perfectly each day. It’s the little details and consistency that really stood out. Overall, the service was exceptional from start to finish. Great people, great atmosphere, and a team that goes above and beyond to make you feel comfortable and taken care of. I would absolutely stay here again and highly recommend it to anyone visiting the area.
- 2.5/5
The location is perfect Room was very small and had a very small window. Upon receiving the room, we kindly requested a room change and no one took action. Attention to details was also needed. The room needs a thorough cleaning.
- 2.5/5
The location was good and close to most things The bed was very uncomfortable. Noise levels from the street were very loud and the windows have no sound proof. The air conditioning made noise all night. My toilet didn’t work. 1 elevator for the whole hotel and there is no lobby.
- 3.5/5
Good location Room overall ok Lobby under renovation makes you feel really unwelcome at first No real luggage storage place Bed mattress not that comfortable Lack of proper plugs close to the bed Loud AC
- 3.5/5
Convenient location. Fridge was cold. Easy to walk or subways. Friendly attentive staff. Held my bags and had a connection for a ride to JFK. Room does what it needs to do. Not a lot of space if you need to set up shop and work. But perfect if you just need to sleep and shower. Lots of street noise if that concerns folks.

Under construction. No way to call hotel😳. Had to email to confirm early arrival and if they could store bags. They communicated well by email. BUT if there was any issues you have to go down to desk to report. Emergency…..? Had to request our room to be serviced or get new towels. There are no plush robes as described in the listing. The noise from street is a lot. The bed was comfortable. And again, location cannot be beat.

I’ll start by saying the location was great. Was able to walk most places. When we arrived, the lobby was under construction, and there was literally no place to sit, and barely enough room to even talk with the “front desk”. The staff was helpful and felt bad, but I feel like a heads up would have been appropriate. The room itself was very small, but clean. No dresser, no closet. No coffee in the room. Overall, not my best NY stay.
- 4/5
Great location, clean, very friendly and welcoming and helpful staff Seemed under construction: there was tape and plaster in the foyer, there were cracks and plaster covering them in the bathroom. Room was well furnished but had an old feeling.

The toilet in the hotel room did not flush. The maintenance had to come up 4+ times and it still didn’t fix it. We had to ask for house keeping as they never arrived the entirety of the stay. The entire lobby was under construction as well and it made it difficult to get in and out of building.
- 4/5
Despite the lobby construction, rooms were spacious (for nyc), clean bathroom, solid AC, only issue was weak water pressure…maybe because of construction and /or top floor room?

The location was great Theres was construction in the lobby, our room looked nothing like the pictures. Much smaller, really loud AC, and not great quality. Also we found out our booking was $300 cheaper and booking hasnt gotten back about fixing the price. The pictures looked nothing like our room. It was probably the smallest room outside of a hostel Ive ever been in. The actually hotel did not meet the expectations of the pictures or the price.

Muy central y me gusto la Limpieza
- 2/5
This place is slightly better than serviceable.
- 4/5
The staff were very nice and extremely helpful. Had a hard time reaching the reception as there are no phones in the rooms and no one answers the regular phone calls. There is a construction at the moment in the lobby so a bit unorganized. Rooms are tiny.
- 0.5/5
There was a Starbucks nearby. Under construction. Smallest room ever. Overpriced.
- 5/5
There are a lot of teeny, tiny little hotel rooms in Midtown but this place made theirs super comfortable. The room was updated, there are Le Labo toiletries in the bathroom and my room had huge windows looking out onto 5th Avenue. I'll definitely be back.
- 4/5
The property is next to Empire state building. Macys is 5minutes away. The building is under renovation i guess because the lobby was covered with plastics. The staff was amazing they were so friendly. First day the elevator didnt work.

Super tight room without a hook to hang anything. It didn’t even have a chair. We were so disappointed.

The hotel is under renovation, but the rooms are very clean and the staff is very friendly. Within walking distance of Times Square, Broadway and Madison Square Garden.

Staff was welcoming and accommodating. Bathroom was good size and well stocked. Great shower. Plenty of dining options nearby. Prompt and appropriate response to some minor problems we had during our stay.
- 5/5
The hotel was under renovation at the time of the stay, but the location is absolutely unbeatable if your plans are taking you to midtown Manhattan. The staff are helpful and courteous, and the rooms are small but clean and comfortable.
- 2/5
Beware this hotel is undergoing an active renovation!!!!! The staff were incredibly nice.
- 4/5
Contemporary, thoughtful, comfortable look and furnishings. No closets though. The thermostat was set to 66 but the actual room temperature was 73. That temperature dropped to 69 only when we opened a window. The entrance is under renovation so was unattractive. It was also unmarked and small. A Starbucks is next store! :-)

- 3.5/5
My room was nice—small but comfortable. I loved that they delivered my stored luggage to my room so it was there when i checked in. The front “desk” were very kind and the guy there jumped to open the door for anyone coming in or out. It was a bit creepy to have scaffolding right outside my window. I didn’t realize the place was under construction. The staff was very nice but the “lobby” area was a wreck…had to walk on cardboard, very crowed in with stored luggage, loud machinery, etc i think it should be very clear that you are under construction—especially when you’re down to the studs.
- 5/5
Room was clean and what i expected. Staff was friendly and helpful.
- 1/5
Everything is very poorly accomodated. The air conditioning is on top of the bed corner so if you are tall like in my case you hit your feet everytime you move. The windows are either so thin or poorly made that air and noise come in constantly making it very very hard to sleep. Worse experience at a ny hotel…
- 3/5
When I first checked in, I was given a room that hadn’t been cleaned yet, which was frustrating. That said, the staff was kind and handled the situation quickly, which I appreciated. However, even after switching rooms, the cleanliness still wasn’t quite up to standard. The biggest issue was the room itself—specifically the AC unit. It was extremely loud and never really got the room cool, making it difficult to sleep comfortably. Overall, while the staff was helpful, the condition of the hotel and the ongoing construction made for a disappointing experience.
- 4.5/5
It was a great location. It was exceptionally clean. Very comfortable. Very small but all you need for 1 person. Street noise was very loud BUT I was facing the street and got used to it by the 2nd night.

Good location
- 1/5
The room was very small but I guess for the middle of the city, can’t complain about that. My wife and I sat on the bed and the bed collapsed. It was late in night so I just informed the front desk that we would sleep on it as it was. They insisted that they come check even tho I told them my wife was already asleep. Next morning I go out for coffee and breakfast and come back. Elevator was out of service. Only elevator in the hotel. Not even a service elevator was available. Had to walk up 9 flights of stairs and then my key wouldn’t work! I checked out and had to walk down 9 flights of stairs with 4 suitcases! There was not even a phone in the room to call the front desk for assistance. Staff apologized but that is no satisfaction for the lousy condition of the place. Don’t stay here. The only thing good about this place was the location. If you stay here, you better stay on a low floor!
- 1.5/5
Staff was friendly. There are too many hotels in New York that offer more at a similar or even cheaper price to ever choose U Hotel. The room was tiny, there are absolutely no amenities whatsoever: no coffee, no gym, no phones, no little store for snacks or necessities… The maintenance / housekeeping staff did work at night that woke me up and there wasn’t any means of even contacting the front desk. The so-called lobby was completely under renovation, which they should have closed the hotel to do. The location is far from both subway lines and the immediate neighborhood lacks good bars, stores and restaurants.
- 5/5
Amazing staff and overall experience. I’ve stayed here multiple times for work
- 2/5
I have stayed here before and usually would recommend it, but they are doing construction on the lobby and it was a mess and hard to manage. The room I got was not great and the toilet was running all night , so didn’t get much sleep with that and the noises outside the window. Hopefully they will fix the issues.
- 5/5
I felt safe, the room was clean, and the staff was really friendly. It was all that you could need. It was also in a really convenient and nice location. The first night after I had dropped my bags to be held before my check in time during the day, when I got back late in the evening they had already brought my bags to my room which made my night. I have seen reviews about the rooms being small and hearing street noise, but that feels hard to avoid in NYC. Those things did not trouble me. It may be a little harder if you are sharing the room, but for the value and location you really can't beat it. There was construction in the main lobby while I was there, but I didn't feel like it really affected my stay hardly at all and I am excited to see what it will look like when I return.
- 1/5
THIS PLACE IS A SCAM. ALL PHOTOS ONLINE ARE NOT LIKE THE ACTUAL HOTEL. THEY USE STOCK IMAGES FOR THE PICTURES OF THE LOBBY. I WAS ONLY REFUNDED FOR HALF MY STAY EVEN THOUGH I LEFT RIGHT WHEN I ARRIVED. DO NOT STAY HERE
- 5/5
The room is smaller as to be expected but very clean and very thoughtfully designed. You can hear the city outside but that is part of the allure of it. Starbucks is one door over which is incredibly convenient. Staff are friendly and accommodating with holding bags and answering questions. This is a very New York feel hotel which was perfect for our stay!
- 3/5
No there was some hair
- 4/5
Great place but over packers should think twice. Rooms are small but tidy. Perfect for two people but not 2 full suitcases. There is no closet. Instead there’s a clever wall rack with 4-5 hooks with hangars. I worked from my room for an entire day and it was very functional (HVAC unit is chest level and portrudes 18 inches into the room -I used as a standing desk!). Clean rooms. Very nice staff. I’d like to see it again when lobby remodel is complete. Stay there if you are busy during the day.
- 5/5
All in all, it was very good
- 1.5/5
Nothing to like here. There is no proper lobby, you enter into a construction site with workers and tools all over the place. There is a tiny reception desk ( temporarily looks like) tucked in a small corner and the staff seems they are all part of the construction crew. The room was tiny and not properly soundproof, you hear everything from the street. For their price point go stay anywhere else but here.

I had such a wonderful stay at U Hotel! The room, hospitality and the location at this price point is an absolute steal! I did travel solo, and it felt like the room would’ve been a bit small if shared by two people, but the convenience and accessibility to the most popular NYC spots is worth it. The people too were very warm and helpful! 100% recommended.

The staff was excellent. Helpful, courteous. The room was in real disrepair. The sliding door to bath narrowly missed my toddler fall off the slider. A toddler shouldnt be able to pull a heavy door off tracks. The side table fell apart when I lifted to move it closer to bed. There were holes in the wall. The room needs to be basically safe.

Loved that this property was walking distance to so many landmarks and attractions. I didn’t like how tiny the rooms were. Beds were comfortable as well as pillows. But, with luggage no walking space around room. TINY. Room was super clean, room AC seemed larger than the room! Staff was fantastic! I mean at the end of the day room is to sleep and if I think of it that way, it was perfect. Windows also small but you get a view of the back of the Empire State building.

Hotel U gives you a true NY feel. Great location for a day hike to Central Park, Time Square and Madison Square Gardens and next door to the Empire State Building. Great restaurants and food carts around every corner and a 3-5min Uber ride to practically any Broadway show or high end retailer you can imagine. The tiny 200 sq. ft. room provides a full size bed and full shower and really gives you that NY ‘Tiny house’ feel. The best part, unlike many NY hotels, Hotel U allows you crack open your window so you can really experience the sounds of NY too. If you only need a quick place to shower and sleep in NY, Hotel U is clean and the right price for you. And super sweet staff at this cute boutique hotel.

Room was small but comfortable and clean. In a great part of Manhattan! The only thing that I would change is building security. Having to swipe with room key into elevator and stairs given the hotel is right off the steet would’ve made me feel safer.

This hotel was probably one of my favorites in New York! The hotel staff were so friendly and laid back! The location was absolutely unbeatable! Walking distance from all the “main sights” and best restaurants in nyc and in a safe area! It is a bit small but great for a solo trip or for just traveling with one person! Also the air conditioning was a savior in the august heat! I went back to the room once or twice a day to just regroup and cool down! I will definitely be staying here next time I’m in nyc!

Recomendado me quede 7 dias

I liked that it was on a busy well lit street and the front desk was right at the front door. I loved that I didn't have to walk down a long hallway to my room. Always people walking outside. All of these things made me feel comfortable come to my room late. Room was clean and updated. The only thing I didn't like was the shower. The drain cover kept coming off while I was showering and also a very very large amount of water was outside of the shower on the floor because the shower curtain did almost nothing to keep the water in. This made my shower not so pleasurable. The shower enclosure needs to be visited by management.

Was in a great location for seeing NYC , was all fresh and new. the bed was comfortable. The AC a bit too noisy and a small refrigerator would be a nice addition. Though the room was small it might have been difficult to put one in there.

Aesthetically fine room but lacks basic amenities like mini-fridge, iron, etc. LOUD. Incredibly loud guests that management encourages to be loud at all hours. Trash bags piled up in hallway and directly in front of elevator (like, you have to step over them to exit the elevator).

Great location and really friendly front desk staff. The room was small but appropriate for the price, and I was really only in there each night to sleep. The common areas (hallways/elevator) were pretty cramped though. The room was generally clean, but there were some areas in the bathroom that could be better. Overall, good bang for your buck and you really can't beat the convenience/location.

The room is hands down the smallest hotel room I've ever been in. It's great for one person, but very tight and packed with two people and honestly, difficult to move in. Aside from that though, it was a great experience. The staff was friendly, the room and building was clean. It's in a super convenient location and was relatively cheap for the location as well.

They charged several times the credit card with different amounts and when asked... they said it was mistakes.. and management will refund, still waiting for such transactions. They did not say anything about the destination fee when we arrived.

This was the perfect location for our stay. The hotel is a 10-minute walk from Penn Station and convenient to multiple subway & bus routes, so we could get around easily. We came to NYC for Pride Weekend, and one of the marches went right by our hotel. The room was small but very clean, just what we needed. If anything could be improved, it would be the shower. It leaked water all over the bathroom floor by design. Literally, the shower curtain rod was curved out *beyond* the low (1") rim of the shower so that the curtain hung over the bathroom floor, rather than inside the shower. The curtain itself didn't even reach down to the rim, so there wasn't even a chance to tuck it inside the shower. So, water would hit the curtain and drip down onto the bathroom floor, creating a vast puddle. If management could invest in fixing this, the room would be perfect. With that said, I highly recommend this hotel if your main goal is to be out and about in NYC. The staff are wonderfully friendly, the room is comfortable, and the location is perfect!

My husband and I stayed in this hotel four nights. Location is fabulous, next to many attractions. The rooms are small, even for NYC. Staff is nice but couldn´t fix a problem with blinds for 3 nights, until they gave us another room. As a courtesy, they gave us breakfast on "The Mill" which was ok, but very restricted. Wouldn´t recomend to book the room with breakfast. We asked for housekeeping 2 days and it was not provided. Overall it is ok for the price, becouse we didn´t spend too much time in the hotel.

I stayed in room 604 and everything was immaculate, the lobby, the elevator, the hallways, all clean with nothing broken. A1.

My stay wasn’t bad at all I was near everything so the location was amazing. Bed was slight uncomfortable and room was very small but the condition and price was great has a wonderful time!

Great things include the location itself. At the corner of 35th St. and 5th Avenue, it's got easy access to the 34th St. subway station and main bus lines, so one can easily get to anywhere in the city. If you won't be spending much time in the room itself, then this hotel is for you. The room is nothing spectacular, but it does the job. A standard, single room has a queen size bed with nightstands, but not much else (two little "desks" may be in some of the rooms, but I only had one in mine). Though this may not be the case in every room, the phone in the one I stayed in didn't work, making contacting the staff a challenge (thankfully, I didn't need much from them, and they were friendly & professional whenever I needed something). A couple things I didn't like at all: the lack of even a mini fridge and the surprise "destination fee" that needed to be paid upon checking in (though the latter might be more of Orbitz's fault). The charge I initially paid looked as though it included the destination fee in it already, so I was shocked to have to pay an additional amount when I arrived. I have no problem with fees if they are presented clearly and timely (a guest deserves to know what he or she is getting into with bookings). The lack of a fridge, however, was pretty terrible. Many cheaper hotels provide this basic appliance. Overall, if you just need a roof over your head, this is your hotel.

Room condition and Price was so good !! but amenity part was a little bit disappointed

The rooms were small, but that is to be expected for a realtively cheap hotel right next to the Empire State Building.

The double bed is a full bed. too small for two.

It was a nice hotel and nice staff. The room was a bit small as expected, and no fridge, but the Starbucks connected to the hotel is good. In a perfect spot to walk near most of the attractions.
- 3/5
Staff was friendly, bed was very small as well as the room. good place just to crash for a night.
- 5/5
This hotel was in a good location. The staff provided excellent service. They didn’t have a safe or provide coffee in the room I had to go next door to Starbucks. And there was a lot of construction noise in the middle of the night. Otherwise the stuff was wonderful and the room was very clean.
- 4/5
Only didn’t like the noise of the trucks at night
- 5/5
Great location on the corner of E 35th and Fifth Avenue next to a Starbucks and breakfast/lunch eatery. Front desk staff were friendly and very helpful in all areas, cleaning staff were friendly and did a fantastic job. Very happy with everything and will stay again!
- 4/5
They have fabulous, trustworthy and responsive staff! A large, modern shower with good water pressure Perfect location for city walking or train access Surrounded by coffee shops The price (on Expedia) was not at all extreme The U Hotel will be my first call on future trips to the city. A great find!
- 4/5
Staff was very friendly and helpful. First time staying overnight in NYC, and was unfamiliar with accommodations of some hotels. However, staff helped make things easier. Good location in midtown Manhattan.
- 4/5
The hotel is a great location. The room is small but good for just a few night's stays in NYC. No microwave and little fridge are not convenient. It could be easily added to the room and add value to the hotel. Rooms are kind of noisy because it is facing the busy street. Overall, the hotel are pretty good.
- 4/5
Great location. Aside from the location and the room cleanliness, don't expect much. There is a Starbucks cafe right next to the reception. We would consider repeating. Rates were a bit on the high side. The receptionist/manager was courteous and helpful.
- 5/5
I loved it friendly people
- 5/5
Will return when I make a trip back out to your city.
- 5/5
Great location, great accommodations. If you're like us and you just sleep and shower in your room and then spend the rest of your time in the city this is the place for you.
- 3/5
The hotel is a tiny "lobby". Just one person at the small front desk. There is only 1 elevator.
- 4/5
Front desk staff are very friendly and helpful. Starbucks attached to the hotel which is an added bonus for coffee lovers. Hotel room is small to be expected but honestly it was good enough, and decorated nicely. Great views of the Empire State Building from the room . The bathroom needs a bit of attention as there was a stain on the shower floor and the toilet is very slow to flush. The bed was a bit to soft for my liking and the pillows a bit too thick/ firm gave me a neck cramp some nights. But overall great hotel!! I would stay there anytime in NY
- 4/5
The best thing about this hotel was the location. Within walking distance to Penn station and Rockefeller center. We were so close to Empire we could see it out of our window. The service was good and all the employees were very friendly. This is a New York budget hotel though, so small rooms and basically no amenities, but we had expected that so no issues there. The only improvement I would suggest is the towels were clearly very old and they only gave you 2 full sized towels. So I had to repeatedly request more. One request should have been all it took. But other than that it was great.
- 3/5
Was not informed of “destination fee” when addressing only incidental “hold” upon arrival, then charged my card without permission.
- 3/5
Very small room, no closet (just a small coat rack), small desk, noise from the street below was loud in my 7th floor room. Very pleasant staff and a clean room, good shower pressure. The charge was over $1200 for three night stay - very high rate for a small room.
- 2/5
2. No coffee machine, no ice, no refrigerator, no tea. 3. No lobby to seat, to get milk or hot water. 4. They didn’t replace my finished bottle of soap. 5. No toilet in lobby - after checking out and while waiting for a cab I asked to go to the restroom and the answer was - “there’s in the Starbucks around the corner”. 6. Other than good location - there’s nothing good to say.
