Reviews
The Sohotel is a historic, boutique hotel located in a convenient and lively area of New York City. Guests generally appreciate the hotel's unique decor, friendly staff, and proximity to various restaurants, shops, and subway stations. However, common complaints include the lack of an elevator, small room sizes, and noise issues.
- Convenient location
- Unique and attractive decor
- No elevator
- Small room sizes
- 5/5
no elevator, cute hotel, large rooms that are great for a family or a group of people.
- 1/5
I arrived there and the front desk failed to tell me that the floor I was on had AC units that were not working! I got to the room and it was HOT. I called the
- 5/5
I liked this place, it was simple and comfortable and clean and well located. My room was very small but comfortable for not being in the room very much. Also there is no elevator so be prepared to climb some stairs. Overall would recommend and stay at again.
- 4/5
Everything was incredible just the fact that I don’t think they have an elevator on site!
- 5/5
Wonderful stay. Would definitely stay again.
- 4/5
Really great location. Just wish I knew there wasn’t an elevator before booking. I had a massive suitcase.
- 5/5
good location
- 2/5
It was ridiculously noisy. You could hear everything from the street noise people talking yelling all the traffic to people outside in the hallways. When I booked it said it was soundproof. Definitely not
- 4/5
Great location, cool vibe. Water pressure in shower was low, very large shelf on the wall made moving around the room a challenge. Otherwise a spacious room for NYC. Quiet rooms, comfy enough for a few nights, felt safe and secure.
- 4.5/5
In the first room the AC wasn't working, but we were upgraded with no sweat.
- 2.5/5
AC was broken and it took them two days to fix. The front desk was a little snarky about it.
- 4/5
Excellent location. No elevators in a 4-5 story building. Lobby is on 2nd floor. Staff were not particularly friendly. Rather cold.
- 5/5
Was staying at SOHOTEL for a show at Bowery Ballroom. Perfect location
- 5/5
Great location, fair price, cool decor
- 5/5
Hotel was lovely - decor was chic, location perfect, room comfortable. Would definitely stay again!
- 2/5
It’s a “cool” hotel in a great area and the sole staff member at the front desk was always nice and helpful, but we did not know that 1) it was a walk up (so coffee in lobby not that convenient for folks with aging knees), there is NOT a bar/restaurant in the hotel as it says on Hotels.com, and our room was so tiny there was no where to put suitcases or clothes or toilet kits.
- 5/5
Great location and big rooms at reasonable rates. Great for families!
- 5/5
The Sohotel on the Bowery is excellent for its value, with modern comfort with a prime downtown location. While the lack of an elevator requires a quick stair climb, the immaculate rooms and outstanding hospitality make it well worth the price for able-bodied travelers. Coffee is great!
- 5/5
We'll be back for sure.
- 3/5
The room itself was clean, but there were shavings left on the sink that were not mine. The bed was comfortable but the pillows were the worst I’ve ever experienced. I decided to forgo a pillow altogether because the lumps were giving me a headache. The walls are also super thin so the man next to me coughing all night kept me up.
- 5/5
The only downside was that the street noise was quite loud during the night and there are no elevators. Staff where available to help with carrying luggage up the stairs. When you arrive, there are 2 short sets of stairs you need to climb to get to reception. If you have mobility issues, this could be something to consider. I would definitely here again.

Landmark building, small hotel, quiet, big room, great location. A bit dark
- 4.5/5
Clean, good location, fun vibe Need new pillows
- 4/5
Old hotel in a great area. No elevator on site so get ready to carry luggage 4 flights of stairs! Rooms are decent size and hotel has a boutique feel. Staff are barely present. Better options out there!
- 3/5
Lower review is due to Expedia booking experience, as on their site they are not clear about accessibility. No reception on ground floor, rooms available only on upper floors, and without an elevator it is very difficult to use the facilities. Expedia only advises to contact the hotel for accessibilities questions, but only after reservation is made. Lack of transparency by Expedia about the actual condition of this hotel. Regarding the hotel itself, the only complain (other than no elevators) is that hallways were freshly painted, and the smell of the paint inside the room was quite strong, making it unpleasant especially overnight.
- 2.5/5
Location was okay for Chelsea and Soho but not great if you're into the theater. The bathroom was uncomfortable and room size was small for four star hotel.
- 3/5
Loud partygoers in hall outside room
- 1/5
Not a nice place to stay, impossible to sleep bc walls so thin
- 5/5
Fairly roomy for NYC.
- 5/5
Loved the location of this hotel. The hotel and staff were also great, I would definitely stay here again. The manager was also great and super attentive.
- 4/5
Weak Overhead shower water pressure. Not an issue for us but warning to people who have problem going up and down the stairs since there is no elevators .
- 3.5/5
I loved the decor and style of the hotel, however, the lighting in the rooms was very poor. The bedroom was lit by an Edison bulb and small spotlight lights that all cast orangey-yellow hues and did not properly illuminate the room, making reading at night headache-inducing. Even the bathroom was lit by the same yellow-ish lighting.
- 5/5
Very nice cozy place in SoHo, staff was friendly and helpful! Easy to find and get around.
- 4.5/5

- 5/5
We stayed in a newly renovated room and it was wonderful! Extremely clean, more spacious that I was expecting, and very comfortable for a family of five. I was also pleasantly surprised by how quiet it was in the evenings. The area felt safe enough to walk around in the evening with our kids, and it's very conveniently located to plenty of great restaurants and things to do. We would definitely consider staying again on any future visits to NYC!
- 4/5
Close to everything No dressers for clothes
- 5/5
Great hotel stay consistently. Staff is excellent, rooms adequate size and comfortable too.
- 2/5
Clean room
- 4/5
The location was great and the general areas were nice. The property was out of date in certain aspects. The bathrooms weren’t super clean in the rooms and the showers had noticeable wear that didn’t seem hygienic.
- 5/5
Be aware there are stairs and no elevator. Rooms have good AC, nice firm comfortable beds, elongated toilets, hot showers and coffee available in the morning. Decor is very interesting shabby sheik and don't forget to say hi to Hermin on your way down the stairs. Plenty of good restaurants, coffee, and access to transit nearby. Nothing comes to mind.
- 5/5
Amazing stay
- 4.5/5
The only issue we had was that we were unaware that there wasn’t an elevator. Otherwise everything about our stay was perfect.
- 3.5/5
The walls and doors are REALLY thin. We heard peoples whole conversations and doors closing all night long.
- 5/5
Place is so cute inside. Location was walking distance from Chinatown and a Little Italy and Canal Street with all the shopping.
- 3/5
Room was clean and staff was very kind. However, the room is on
- 3.5/5
I didnt like that we had to walk up 3 flights because there was no elevator. I didn’t like that fact that the thermostat wasn’t properly working. It was cold that first night so my husband was very cold. I was glad that the next day was warmer and so we didn’t have to deal with cold temps but we had the heater if we need it.
- 4/5
No bar or restaurant.
- 3/5
The hotel was fine, but we wouldn’t stay here again based on the lack of coffee being available. No way to make it in the room and they only have it available in the lobby for a few hours in the morning. When we went down at 9:30 in the morning to get some, it was out! Even an electric kettle with some single serve coffee bags would solve this. Seems like an easy fix.
- 2/5
Location was great ! Room size and thin walls in room.
- 3/5
I really wanted to love this hotel. It’s in a great location by the subway and Chinatown and has a great vibe. Unfortunately the windows are paper thin and the constant honking all night long meant almost no sleep. Also. No black out curtains. The property is also undergoing renovation which was not mentioned so don’t plan on taking an afternoon nap as the noise went on until 6pm.
- 5/5
Great location and unique building.
- 5/5
Cool, historic hotel. Easy walk to both Chinatown and little Italy.
- 2/5
The listing information made it sound like there was on-site parking available, instead I was sent to a parking garage a few blocks away, which was full and had to spend nearly 2 1/2 hours looking for an available parking garage. The rooms were not so clean, especially the bathrooms.
- 3/5
Chic. Great location. Clean. Extremely noisy
- 5/5
Great room! Large for the area! Great staff great location!!
- 3/5
Overall ok but you can hear each mouvment in the corridor and next bedroom
- 4/5
Very friendly staff. Rooms are small and have a incense
- 5/5
Loved the hotel and the room was amazing
- 5/5
Such a beautiful hotel. Very clean, kind staff and comfortable beds.
- 4/5
The only bad thing is that there is no elevator. The location and the stuff were excellent
- 5/5
Love the area, next to Little Italy. Beautiful Bowery hotel. Friendly staff. Rooms are beautiful and look new.
- 1/5
I'm really sorry that I opted to stay hotel. I didn't want to stay in a cookie cutter chain hotel and thought that it would be a refreshing change.Upon entering, I immediately smelled a fragrance that at first whiff smelled pleasant enough. I upgraded to stay in "best room" in hotel. In my room I continued to smell the same fragrance but it increasingly became nauseating to the point that I had a bad headache and it turned my stomach. I went downstairs to speak to staff about the possibility of preventing the smell in the room. I received differing explanations. I was told that it was coming under the door from the hallway. Then it was in the HVAC system to which I told that could shut system down that would render the room being cold. Staff offered a portable heater that turned down. I was taken to other rooms to see if there was a smell present. I finally picked a room that I thought was fine. Despite there being a half dead plant and large book on the table that had completely come away from its spine, I was told that it was still considered an upgraded room. At that point I just gave up. I had little sleep due to the uncomfortable bed and coarse bed linens and YES the smell. I checked out and said nothing because I was tired and wanted to go home. On the way home I could smell the "fragrance" on my jacket. Stay here if you can stomach strong smells and want to engage with staff that seem to understand.Plus no valet service !

Great hotel with eclectic decor. Room was wonderful
- 5/5
The hotel was clean, the beds were comfy, and the location is excellent. The staff were friendly and accommodating and we loved the overall decor and vibe of the hotel. We’ll definitely go back again.
- 5/5
Stayed over New Year as a family of 5. The hotel is ideally located for all attractions, and near a number of subway stations. Room was clean and beds were comfortable. Great hotel and thanks to the team!
- 5/5
Super cute and unique!
- 4/5
The rooms are smaller than expected and there is no elevator. Nice property just very tiny bathrooms.
- 5/5
Great room, great place, great location. Clean love this place will always stay here for NYC trips.
- 4/5
Location is great and staff is very friendly and helpful. The lack of an elevator was a surprise
- 5/5
Great location. Little Italy & Chinatown are both only a couple blocks walk providing lots of great food options and SOHO shopping is also close.
- 5/5
Only thing not accurate on Hotels.com was parking. You have to park a few blocks away but they give you a discount if the hotel stamps your ticket. We paid $115 for two nights.
- 5/5
Unique boutique hotel with a great location.
- 5/5
Great location! Hotel was decorated for Christmas so everything was super cute. We got a room with 2 queen beds and it was very roomy for 4 adults (super high ceiling!). Bathroom was very clean and the shower was amazing. Within walking distance to Katz’s, Russ & Daughters (amazing for breakfast), and Tenement museum. Highly recommend- we will definitely be back!
- 5/5
Decor and location
- 5/5
Rooms were clean and large. Only problem is there are only stairs - no elevator so it was dofficult to bring our suitcases up.
- 4/5
Clean room, fun vibe in lobby, friendly staff. Unfortunately our TV didn’t connect to wifi/not able to sign into Netflix, etc… not a huge deal, but we wanted to relax and watch Christmas movies. Overall great stay
- 5/5
Friendly staff and such a fun and welcoming atmosphere. Definitely would stay again.
- 4/5
Room.was ok but its high time they have a microwave and a fridge in the rooms.
- 3/5
Cons: very dark and no lamps, AC wasn’t working properly so very warm from the radiator, street noise
- 5/5
Great room in a super location
- 5/5
Great value for the money. The staff was fantastic! So helpful ! Convenient location! Clean rooms! Love the character of the hotel!
- 2/5
The radiator in the room couldn’t be turned down, which resulted in the room being hot like a sauna. I had to have the window open, which made the room very noisy.
- 5/5
Great room, friendly staff and perfect location.
- 3/5
Not my favorite hotel the moxy across the street is much nicer ..
- 5/5
The hotel was in a great area, and very cute
- 5/5
Lovely room
- 5/5
Great hotel. We had two queen beds for a girls trip. Only complaint was noise from neighbors that weren’t being the most considerate.
- 5/5
Perfect location to see the city
- 5/5
Clean
- 4/5
I stay at the deluxe double room and the size was great for the four of us! Staff is available 24 hours Complementary coffee at mornings We would stay there again!
- 5/5
Clean room - very cool decor in lobby. Super location.
- 2/5
Staff ok…not that friendly. Room was clean and tasteful, but we heard doors opening and closing ALL night. There was also a dripping sound, and a flashing light on the ceiling. The mattress was so firm. I didn’t think they even made them that firm any longer. Not a good sleep! We liked the area and cleaning staff was great, but we won’t go back to Sohotel.
- 5/5
accommodating staff. very clean & cool my only recommendation would be to have cream in rooms & perhaps roves and slippers? also require a caution because there is no elevator and only stairs. note - staff brought suitcases upstairs
- 5/5
Beautiful Hotel
- 5/5
great staff, clean rooms and excellent location.
- 2/5
This is our second stay at Sohotel and was sadly disappointed. Each night we were woken up by slamming doors, one night someone was banging on our door, people partying and yelling walking down hallways. For the luxury hotel cost you would think the hotel would manage this much better. We mentioned to the front desk the first morning and they were not concerned or apologetic. We love the hotel and vibe there but can surely find something more accommodating for a couple that doesn’t rage every night like college students.
- 3/5
The hotel photos are deceiving and the amenities described need updating. The attached bar and restaurant is closed. They have vending machines and do not even leave you a bottle of water in your room. There are no amenities and you pay a resort fee which seemed unfair. The staff wasn't overly warm except the housekeeping staff which were warm and efficient. The room was small but the esthetics were trendy and stylish. There is no clock, no dressers and the makeshift seating area unseats me. The shower is room 341 was not pitched or designed correctly so no matter what we did, our bathroom floor was flooded so we piled up towels best we could to prevent a ceiling leaking below. They offer coffee downstairs in the am but the creams were empty both days. FYI the hotel has no elevator as it was built before the disabilities act so note you have a few flights of stairs. The bed was comfy and we had a cute window. The location was right near little Italy and China town. I probably wouldn't stay again and think the resort fee and amenities for the price were not comparable to other places. I would have checked out after one night and gone elsewhere if I could have gotten money back! Close to subway. Also our tv screen had this annoying menu that no matter what buttons we tried and how many times we shut on and off never went away so we couldn't watch tv!
- 5/5
The room was
- 5/5
Pretty easy place to stay. Easy to walk all over the Bowery, get to soho and beyond. We arrived after midnight due to delays, I called to verify we could check in as they confirmed, gave me additional instructions and gave us a late check out since it was 2am.
- 4/5
Smaller room than expected. Fine place to stay if you don’t plan to be in much. Smelled nice at least. No elevator stinks.
- 4/5
Overall, good experience but very disappointed with TV. It appeared that the hotel staff are aware that getting TV reception is an ongoing problem!
- 1/5
When we arrived at The Sohotel, the room looked nothing like the photos online. There was visible mold growing on the sink, dust and debris falling from the ceiling fan onto the beds, and the bathroom was old, dirty, and completely misrepresented. It felt so unhygienic that we actually left the hotel to wash our hair elsewhere because it didn’t feel safe to use the facilities. To make things worse, no one was ever at the front desk, even after multiple calls from Hotels.com on our behalf. Later, I was told the hotel claimed I “should have requested a more modern bathroom” — which is absolutely ridiculous. When you book a room based on advertised photos, you expect it to reflect that, not to have to ask for one that’s mold-free. The “premium bedding,” “Tempur-Pedic mattress,” “designer toiletries,” and “rainfall showerhead” advertised were completely false. There were no toiletries, no toothbrush or toothpaste, and no premium bedding. This hotel is misleading, unhygienic, and unsafe. Mold is toxic to breathe in and unacceptable in any guest room. I would never stay here again and strongly urge others to look elsewhere.
- 4/5
Great location and decent price. I booked a queen and they put me in a room with a double. When I went down stairs to ask, they acted confused and tried to gaslight me. Eventually ended up in a king. Every other staff person was lovely and it’s a super charming hotel. You should know there are no elevators.
- 5/5
Location couldn’t be better and I love the hotel - amazing staff and so much character!
- 2/5
It was 750 a night for our hotel and there was cockroaches in the bathroom.
- 4/5
Beautiful hotel, friendly staff. My suitcase was kind of heavy and there is no elevator but one of the men kindly offered to carry my suitcase up the stairs for me which I will be forever grateful for.
- 5/5
Great place full of character in a fun neighborhood!
- 4/5
Nice hotel! Very convenient location, still cannot understand why they didn't have an elevator. That was unfortunate so can't give it 5 stars!!!
- 5/5
Clean room
- 5/5
Unique clean wonderful beds & service.
- 5/5
Cool place in a fun area
- 1/5
The room was dirty, and I took several photos. The door safety lock was missing; there were numerous issues with this hotel. I want to be compensated for the room. I brought it up to the hotel, they brushed me off by telling me that I needed to deal with Expedia directly. Room 212
- 5/5
Very unique. Service was excellent.
- 1/5
This is literally the worst hotel I've stayed in in at least 15 years. They quite literally have no elevator, and my room was 38 steep, rickety steps from the ground. The rooms had No closets. No drawers. Yes literally - NO PLACE for your clothes. No desk. No drinking glasses. No tea or coffee. No mini-bar. As for the hotel, it has no restaurant, no bar, and no room service. It is an amenity-free hotel. And yet this site will con you into thinking it's a "4-star hotel." They hide the fact that there's no elevator in the most minuscule fine print on a submenu. This is disgusting, these people should be ashamed of themselves, and this ghastly money-grubbing, cheapskate hotel should be shut down as a hazard to anybody with the slightest disability. Also this site should respect its customers better than to list this horrible hotel as four stars. Shame on everything connected to this horrible scam.
- 5/5
Great place to stay. Staff was very helpful and friendly.
- 5/5
Cozy vibes. Clean. Nice location !
- 5/5
Excellent staff that go above and beyond
- 5/5
Excellent stay
- 3/5
No elevators. Lack of eating areas.
- 3/5
The stay was for one night. Got in a bit early and was told that we would have to pay for an upgrade to get into the room early. Paid $50 and was put in a super dark room with barely a window in the top floor. There is no elevator and no help with bags aside from checkin. Not worth the cost.
- 4/5
There is no “on-site” parking, but there is a parking lot just down the street where the hotel discounts guests for parking here. I was at Sohotel for three days and the total was $98 to leave my car there for the weekend. Not terrible considering parking fees or getting towed/Scratched and whatnot.
- 3/5
This hotel is WALK UP, beware!!! No coffee in rooms. Beautiful looking design. Fire alarm went off every morning for 10 minutes
- 5/5
Overall a great property!
- 5/5
Great place! The beds are a dream
- 4/5
The oldest hotel in NYC! And the oldest plumbing… which meant a free room upgrade when some fixture above us (we hope not the toilet, but I think probably the toilet) sprung a leak right over my bed from the ceiling. The listing also doesn’t tell you that all rooms are up a flight of stairs, so this is not an accessible hotel. The room was spacious by NYC standards though, and beds were comfortable. Location is amazing with so much to do nearby. Great restaurants, shopping, Tenement Museum, all walking distance. If you don’t mind unloading at the hotel and parking a few blocks away, you can find free street parking around the park. Just pay attention to days for alternate street parking. I don’t think I would book it again given the other options in the neighborhood, but it wasn’t bad.
- 5/5
The hotel was great! Only downside was no elevator, but that’s ok! Location was perfect. Friendly staff, and it was clean. Would stay here again.
- 5/5
The staff and hotel itself was great, the area is safe to walk around, many restaurants and bars near so it’s honestly amazing! Would come back for sure, we stayed in the deluxe family room and loved how spacious it was.
- 3/5
Gotta get an upgraded suite to get AC, probably should’ve said something ahead of time
- 5/5
Great location and room had 3 beds for my family of four which is rare in NYC. It was clean with great decor in the lobby.
- 5/5
Nice plqce
- 5/5
I love this hotel. But two minor issues: my room wasn’t ready when I checked in after 4 pm. And then oddly, the power was out in my room the next morning.
- 2/5
Charged an undisclosed $27 facility upon check-in when it is too late to make other arrangements. Also, no elevator or any draws in the room to unpack.
- 4/5
Washrooms were outdated
- 5/5
It's quirky, fun, laid back. Family of 5 fit nicely into a tight 3-bed room, and it worked very well. Great value, but the ambiance was so fun! They kept our bags for us after checkout for the day, were very helpful and prompt with every request. They do offer a deal for parking with a lot that's just a couple blocks away, too. Not a big room - truly tight - but exactly what is needed, and shockingly quiet for the city. Looking forward to next stay!
- 4/5
Rooms are a bit small but everything else was great.
- 3/5
This is not a 4 star hotel. Not on its best day. I arrived at 5pm and they said my room wasn’t ready but told me I could pay for an upgrade. I said they could give me an upgrade for free. Then they checked and my room was ready. I feel like this is a ploy to get you to buy an upgrade. They said it was a hectic day. It was a Wednesday in July. If that’s a hectic day then I hate to see what a Saturday in December looks like. Anyway, I feel like my room was the last resort room. The furniture is old and worn and there was warping on the floor and bathroom door suggesting a flood happened recently. No extra toiletries like lotion. The air conditioner was so loud I had to turn it down to sleep. I stayed here one night and chose it for the location and because it said 4 stars. It’s three at best. If you need a crash pad in SoHo then this will work.
- 5/5
The property was clean and unique! We had a great overnight. We would book again!
- 4/5
They charge a $30 resort fee but offer no additional services beyond coffee or tea in the morning. No gym, pool, vouchers...nothing. In fact, simple amenities like a toothbrush have to be purchased from a vending machine. The room was very nice and spacious, but the lack of an elevator made it a chore to get to the 4th floor with bags. Be prepared.
- 3/5
It was fine and served its purpose of being a place to sleep and bathe. Bed was a bit uncomfortable (pillows were awful and lumpy). Our room was super small, bathroom was tiny (but clean), TV only connected to cable occasionally. Our biggest complaint was that the outlets wouldn’t hold plugs and didn’t seem to deliver power effectively (I.e, my earbuds only charged through one part of one outlet). Staff were lovely, and the place was clean.
- 5/5
Beautiful hotel. With the price. Nice neighborhood right by Chinatown and little Italy. Easy subway access
- 4/5
Very nice building, very convenient
- 5/5
Fantastic location, cool decor and very friendly staff. Would definitely stay here again!
- 2/5
It was very dark in common rooms and individual rooms. Very cramped. Loud. Steep stairs only. No elevator. Staff is somewhat inflexible but the worst part was the security deposit of $250!!!!!
- 4/5
Great place to stay if you are a family of 5 trying to all stay in 1 room. The bathroom was tiny, but it is NYC, and the beds were comfortable enough. We would definitely stay here again if we brought the entire family. Staff was very nice too.
- 5/5
Beautiful property and great staff!!
- 5/5
Such a New York vibe!
- 4/5
very nice, staff helpful
- 3/5
Lobby space nice. Rooms very small and limited amenities.
- 2/5
Do not recommend this place.
- 5/5
Great indie hotel in a landmark building. No elevators so be prepared to walk up stairs. Very cool vibe, though.
- 5/5
The hotel was quite ‘funky’ ‘trendy’ in style. Family room was quite spacious and well appointed but was quite dark. Staff were very helpful and found space in their storage locker to store our 3 bikes. Location was excellent and area around it offered many NYC sites and fun things to do, many restaurants and bars very nearby. It was relatively inexpensive compared to other similar hotels. We really enjoyed our stay and would highly recommend this hotel to others.
- 4/5
Great location, boutique hotel. There was a USD $250 incidental fee on check in that will take a week to two to be returned that we were unaware of, which is disappointing.
- 2/5
Not well kept. Not modern at all
- 3/5
I arrived Monday morning and was staying for the week with a check out on Friday and because I arrived early Monday they said it would be an additional $29 to check in early even though my room was ready and was staying with them for the week, which indeed put a bad taste in my mouth and they wouldn’t waive the charge no matter what. I can see if I was staying for the day, but I was staying for the week and instead of welcoming me with a piña colada drink they welcome me with an early check-in surcharge.
- 5/5
Really cute, albeit labyrinthine place. Bed and shower were great, service great, no complaints at all. Reminds me a little of the revolution hotel in Boston as far as decor goes. I thought I'd be bothered by outside noise but was fine. No elevator, be warned but if you can handle a couple steps you'll be just fine. Guest services were friendly and fun.
- 4/5
Loved experience but website said it has restaurant and bar- but they are closed- would not have picked this hotel
- 2/5
There was also a service charge for each day for WiFi, coffee at reception and cleaning service (on request). The room itself was fine but floors were dated, no storage for clothes and no tea or coffee making facilities. It was a basic room no extras.
- 3/5
Not great, but the value was fine.
- 5/5
A lovely quirky hotel right in the centre of Soho - really convenient for everything.
- 3/5
This is a cute hotel in a historic building in the perfect location in lower Manhattan. Please be advised, there is no elevator! That said, there are porters to lug your stuff around. The furniture and fixtures are a bit dated but still nice. It is a bit barebones. The wall paint colors in the rooms are really ugly though, bright yellow and a weird blue… big 2012 energy. The staff are incredible and it smells nice!!
- 5/5
Very convenient location. Clean room. Comfy bed. It is a walkup to room so keep that in mind when booking if you have an injury or mobility concern. I hope to be able to book this hotel again but will understand if it gets popular.
- 5/5
This was my 2nd stay at the Sohotel and it was even better this time. We had a premium room and the upgraded bathroom was so nice. The staff is always so friendly and the location is perfect for exploring lots of areas of Manhattan. The beds were so comfortable it made me want to buy a new mattress at home. They have a nice coffee and tea service in the morning which we used every day. The lobby was a great area to relax when we had some downtime between activities. Will definitely stay again when I am back in NY.

Contaminated water at this hotel! No bottled water in room and very sick for over 1 week from tap water.

They had the room ready for us. It was comfortable. The history of the place is highlighted.

Great spot

The hotel has a nice vibe. People are friendly and it is close to a bunch of great restaurants.

Lobby was nice, room was bare bones, in need of maintenance and dirty. The beds were squeaky and uncomfortable. Not one picture or piece of decor in our room, it felt like a hostel. The pictures shown online are definitely selective which ones they want to show you. Hotels.com advertises the hotel had 5 bars and restaurants… they do not even have one. There are zero amenities at this hotel. You’re paying for the location and that’s it.

Very near China Town and Little Italy.

Cool hotel, fun, walkable part of NYC, nice staff

Stairs only. Super small. VERY NOISY. no amenities--not even basic toiletries.

Great hotel

Always great to stay here and convenient location in this part of Manhattan. Clean, quiet and comfortable room and bed.

For paying over 200 for a hotel room for a night I expect my tv to work. I expect at least some space to be able to move to the left side of the bed.
- 4/5
Great location for us. Nice hotel but very small room and the mattress should have been replaced a year ago easily. Very friendly staff.
- 5/5
Short walk to the Bowery Ballroom, subway, and a handful of highly rated restaurants nearby. Got there before the room was ready, they held our bags while we went and got lunch, got back and they had already carried our bags to our room for us. They room was very clean and the whole place was beautiful!

Room was fine, small. TV barely worked. A/C worked sometimes.

The front desk staff, particularly at check out, were very nice to deal with and accommodating.

Our family had a fantastic stay at the SoHotel. The room was clean and comfortable, the staff were wonderful and the location is excellent.

Great independent hotel- reasonable and good location

The staff was very helpful and friendly! Will stay here again!

Great location on lower east side. Room was very clean and staff friendly and professional. Fun decor in lobby. Would definitely stay here again.

Pros: Parking was convenient. The hotel is in a good location. Staff was nice although not very helpful with the exception of the bellhops (top-notch). Cons: Many extra charges- be prepared. Plus a $250 hold on your card. No elevator. Very dark. Lighting is horrible. We had an issue with several of our lights being out. It took 24 hours plus a total of five different people coming into our room so we could show them lights were actually not working. Very noisy. We could hear full conversations on the street like they were in our actual room. No food or drink options (restaurant or bar) in the hotel. The upgraded queen size room was terribly small. I don’t recommend upgrading. All said, it was not the best experience.

Please stop spraying cologne, it was overwhelming. The rooms were clean and comfortable. Size you’d expect for a NYC room. No elevator folks. I enjoyed the beds. Hot, hot, hot. Even with AC blasting and window open in March, we were suffering at night. Shower needs a door or curtain as the glass partition does nothing to keep bath from flooding. Construction on lights so holes throughout ceiling. AWESOME location. Close to shops on Broadway, parking, Mulberry Street.

Meh. Funky, but run down. The hallway floor felt like it was going to collapse.

The room was not super spacious and there wasn't really anywhere to sit other than the bed, which was awkward when trying to eat. The bathroom looked very tired, with cracks in the walls in the shower and the cul-de-sac that the toilet was in was very tiny, but nonetheless it was clean. Even though it was very cold outside, it was very stuffy in the room at night and the sheets felt like hospital sheets. I did appreciate the free coffee in the morning, however, and there are lots of restaurants nearby (including a couple bodegas where you can get an inexpensive but filling breakfast). Overall, it's passable if you're on a budget (and you get what you pay for) but the standard rooms are just that: standard. For one night it was ok, but other similarly-priced hotels do better with newer rooms and even more amenities.

It is definitely quirky. There is no elevator. So the room on the 4th floor involved some exercise. They do accommodate you by carrying your luggage, however that fee is included in the monies that you pay directly to the hotel and outside of the Expedia payment. It is a great location with lots of good restaurants and coffee shops nearby. We were there in February and the first floor lobby was way too cold to enjoy as there was a huge wind everytime someone entered the hotel.

Really loved the location and the staff was great. The lack of an elevator was tough traveling with a baby and extra luggage but the staff allowed us to leave our car seat on the bottom floor in a locked closet and was very accommodating overall

the hotel staff was very friendly and location was very convenient

The AM shift front desk is rude.

Hotel is really funky - love the moody entrance and groovy furniture. Coffee provided daily in reception foyer very welcome . The location is excellent for dining, walking to shops and transport .
- 3/5
They don't have water available to guests in the lobby, they had no lotion even if you ask at the desk, but the location was great.
- 4/5
Doesn't mention NOT having an elevator. Very disappointing. Reception on 2nd floor. Should be in the lobby.
- 5/5
Wonderful design and friendly staff. Amazing location close to everything in Little Italy, SoHo, and Chinatown.
- 5/5
Lovely unique hotel at a good price

The common areas and lobby were very nice! The queen room was very small. Seemed like a full size mattress. Bathroom was nice and clean!

The most disgusting and filthy place I’ve ever booked, literally including red roof inn motels.
- 5/5
Space was lovely, staff was so warm and welcoming. Room was small but we didn’t need anything bigger. We got offered an upgrade but didn’t need it. Location can’t be beat. Parked on the same street in a lot about a half a block down that we booked ahead on SpotHero for $44 for 24 hours. We were able to walk everywhere we wanted to go. Would definitely stay here again!

First of all, know that there are not four restaurants on site, so look elsewhere if that is what you are looking for. As far as I can tell, three of them have closed or just have severely limited hours. This wasn’t a strong factor for me in booking the place, but was a disappointment when I realized it wasn’t exactly true. My room was more spacious than the smallest rooms I’ve had in New York City. I travel with a yoga mat to stretch out in the morning and actually had room to comfortably place it with my arms stretched side-by-side. I stayed two nights and there was no housekeeping, it is not clear from the Hotels.com listing if or when that happens, although I did see housekeeping in the hallways. The service fees, which I think amount to about $50 a night (I am waiting for the final transaction fee to appear on my credit card statement) are outrageous and a way to pump up what was already an expensive stay (a service fee for “free” Wi-Fi, an in room safe I never used, coffee I never drink, etc. - aren’t those things table stakes for any decent hotel at this point?). The hotel itself is fine. I was delighted with heated floors in the bathroom. The location is great. I wish I realized what I was walking into a little bit more fully, I just feel like the listing was disingenuous in representing what would be the full experience.

Second stay and a good one. Heated floors were a great surprise. Be prepared to take stairs. Skip the cash-only vending machines... great food blocks away. Very comfy beds, beautiful lobbies, and super nice staff.

Cool hotel but no elevator and small spaces

I frequent NYC and have stayed in many hotels, SH's rooms are tiny even by NYC standards, and the bathroom was the smallest I have ever experienced in a hotel room. The bed was comfortable. A refundable $250 resort fee was charged, however, the hotel offers NO amenities, such as water, snacks in the room or a gym (that I'm aware of), so what's the fee for?
