Reviews
The hotel is generally well-liked for its location and friendly staff. However, some guests find the rooms small and the price high for what is offered. There are mixed reviews about the cleanliness of the rooms and the quality of the breakfast.
- Great location
- Friendly and helpful staff
- Small rooms
- High price for what is offered

Such a great place to stay, with a lot right nearby. So close to...bagels, coffee, sushi &.. if it's your thing two different types of chicken (Wingstop & Popeye's), also highly recommend Sunflower Gramercy for breakfast! Not too far to walk to bus or subway. Hotel & room very clean. Bed comfy. Staff is wonderful, friendly & helpful. There is a lovely rooftop deck, which was so nice to just relax for a while!
- 3/5
The hotel doesn’t make the bed or change sheet unless you call before 12 pm . Why do we have to tell you to do it . A do not disturb sign should be enough if we don’t want them to come do the room. No refrigerator and you have to call to get ice every time . And the bucket is like a kids beach bucket tiny. I travel a lot into manhattan and for the price this place was horrible.
- 4/5
Very nice staff, a bit of an older hotel though. Things are a bit worn down, and the bathtub and carpet weren't the cleanest (not that they're necessarily dirty, but just old). But given the price, not too bad. Breakfast was kinda cheap too, just milk, cereal, and some cheap pastries, but again, within this price range, it's not bad.

Check in was a breeze and room was upgraded, Great location at a fair price.
- 5/5
Nice continental breakfast, good location.
- 4/5
Comfortable stay. Would stay again.
- 4/5
No plug in bathroom for a hairdryer or curling iron and no where else in room with a mirror and plug for that same purpose -unfortunate as we were going to an event that evening

Good location. Clean. Had issues with a/c but they moved me. Thank you.
- 4/5
It was a very good location from where we were able to go to different places. When the weather is nice, their rooftop is a huge advantage The room we had was very small for 2 people and we asked for 2 separate duvets which were confirmed before we arrived and then they were not there.
- 5/5
Friendly staff Clean environment Convenient location
- 5/5
The room was clean. The staff was courteous. The location was great. The breakfast was basic, but at least it was free - cereal, muffins, fruit, juice, coffee.

- 3/5
Convenient location to east side neighborhoods, room was fine, clean. However, amenities were spare, no food or drinks on premises including no vending machines. Bodega next door was helpful. Tiny closet, no dresser or drawers. If you just want to sleep there, it’s fine. I’d stay again if the price was reasonable

You should tell patrons there an extra $200 fee for services. The breakfast option should have eggs & bacon at least.

Good location, well-kept property, breakfast is basic. The staff is wonderful!

Located on Lexington Ave a block from Madison Square Park, the location provides excellent connection to public transport as well as many restaurants close. My first time at The Lex hotel, but I’ll be back. A++++

Great location. Easy to get to train and has the park very close. Not as crowded to be in NYC to stay in this area.

Location was perfect, great walkability to everything we wanted, close to subway, big room for NYC, nice and quiet, even on the ground floor, and the rooftop terrace/seating was actually awesome—we ended up eating take out there more than once. Thank you for keeping the cushions clean and dry! Rooms and bathrooms are too DARK—thats really my only feedback. No fridge/microwave/hit water/coffee in the room, but they offset that downside with tea/coffee/water/ice to the room all day, and daily breakfast, which is nice of them.

Room was spacious for NYC and also clean. We had a room that wasn’t facing Lexington so it was really quiet. Great location for us. Didn’t have breakfast so can’t comment on that. Price was great for the city.
- 5/5
Staff was friendly, room was clean and cool. Love the complimentary water, only downside was no mini fridge to put it in.

my fave thing is that they will bring you coffee or tea to your room any time upon request and when i got the tea it was piping hot and not lukewarm. Nice to have a roof deck! Plenty of choices for the self serve breakfast. Yummy options.

There was a leak around the base of the toilet and mold was growing on the side of the vanity. There was a distinct musty smell in the bathroom. Additionally, the room phone was dead so in an emergency I’d have to fumble with my cell phone to call the front desk I reported these issues to the front desk and they sent someone up to try to remedy the situation but really couldn’t.They offered to change my room but I was leaving the following day so I declined. Breakfast was basic.. but convenient Staff is very pleasant and accommodating.
- 4/5
Location was great. Place basic but clean and accommodating. Staff helpful and friendly.
- 3/5
The staff was very friendly. The room was slightly worn, and smelled a bit like stale smoke. There is a small balcony outside and I suspect guests smoke out there
- 3/5
Room was quite loud with noisy neighbors and a broken AC.
- 5/5
The rooms were clean, comfortable, and well-kept, and the staff was friendly and helpful throughout our stay. We especially appreciated how easy everything felt, from check-in to getting around the city. It’s not a huge luxury hotel, but it has a cozy, boutique feel that made our stay really enjoyable. Overall, a great place to stay and we would happily come back again!
- 4/5
Just what needed, covered all the bases.
- 5/5
Clean and convenient!
- 4/5
Location is great if you want to explore most of manhattan. No sense of security issues. Main issue was how thin the walls were and the sheets. You can hear every syllable your neighbors say. Also the sheets are a tad bit thin especially if traveling in colder months. Good value for the location
- 5/5
I enjoyed the outdoor patio as shown in the photo. There were plenty of shops nearby. The staff was very pleasant.
- 5/5
Great location. Staff was very informative and helpful
- 5/5
Very conveniently located boutique hotel (1 block away from 23rd St Station of NYC green subway line 6. Spacious family room with 2 queen beds and large bathroom. Daily 2 bottled water in room and continental breakfast with fresh fruits were nice amenities. Staff were very friendly and helpful (able to store our luggage after we check out). We will come back to stay here the next time we return to NYC.
- 3/5
Balcony was nice to have but that view was big steel vats. Also bird mess all over the chair to sit on. The deadlock on my door was not working and as I checked in late, I just used the upper metal hinge lock. Told front desk who apologized and will have it fixed
- 4/5
Room was great. Staff were courteous. Definitely recommend.
- 5/5
Great place for the price. had a weird smell the first night and sucks they done have a inroom fridge but you ask front desk for cups of ice and they bring it no problem. not much storage space so travel lightly!
- 5/5
great front desk staff, excellent location, perfect for our price point
- 3/5
We have stayed at the Lex for years, but this last time we noticed that the property is getting run down. Rooms are dingy and sad. We won’t be staying again until the place is upgraded.
- 5/5
Just what I was looking for. Very clean, well-located and affordable! Comfortable bed and bedding, spotless bathroom, all the basic amenities. Complimentary croissants and coffee were great at the continental breakfast set out in the small lobby. I will return!
- 5/5
Staff was very nice and courteous
- 2/5
The continental breakfast is not really continental, more lees “Island breakfast”. The pastries were always cold, although the coffee was good and they did have fruit. The location is good, and there are very good restaurants in the area. However, I would not stay at this hotel again. The staff needs to improve their attitude. Being a New Yorker 24/7 doesn’t work very well with tourists when you’re paying to stay somewhere.
- 5/5
Great hotel
- 2/5
Room was cold, ugly, hotel barren of amenities, and neighborhood seedy
- 3/5
The lighting in the bathroom. It’s to dark to it on make up.
- 5/5
Yes, the room was quite nice. Friendly and helpful staff. Enjoyed my stay
- 4/5
The hotel was cute. There are things around to do as well. The ONLY THING !!! The balcony had bird kaka all over the outside chair. Maybe because it was cold outside, didn't think anybody would want to sit out there.
- 4/5
The room was bigger than the usual Midtown hotel, in the context of a Manhattan hotel room. Future guests: be aware that they use wall units with forced air so it’s fairly loud. Luckily, I had earplugs in my luggage. Hotel: the outside signs and black awning make it look like an after-hours club, not a hotel. I hesitated before I entered and thought I might have made a mistake when booking. Do something to make the outside look as welcoming as the staff at the Registration desk are.

Clean room, rides on time
- 5/5
The staff here were very nice, and the room was clean and comfortable. Metro stations were nearby, making it easy to get around.
- 2/5
Disappointed by the hotel. The location was good. The photos online were nothing like the hotel. The rooms were dingy, old, and very basic. The bathrooms were okay and more updated. Make sure you don’t get garden room. Those were creepy and depressing (I switched rooms 2x at arrival based on conditions). I would not stay there again.
- 5/5
Room was clean. Loved the free water bottles.
- 5/5
The staff was friendly and helpful.
- 5/5
Great location
- 5/5
Thank you I really enjoyed my stay
- 5/5
The staff was friendly and helpful and the room was roomy and clean! Definitely would stay at the Lex again!
- 4/5
Staff was good. Room was cleanish. Hair in sheets wasn't mine!
- 2/5
Smallest room ever, oddly shaped. No mini fridge. Breakfast wasn’t really a breakfast, a few carb options. Would not recommend staying here.
- 3/5
Bed was very uncomfortable and there was no heat in the bathroom.
- 3/5
It was carpeted and in all the corners it was visibly dusty. Like a layer of dust on top of the carpet. I think the place could benefit from a deep clean and perhaps consider replacing carpet with LVL flooring. Otherwise it was a nice place, breakfast included.
- 3/5
Staff is accommodating but the facility is not very good
- 5/5
Room was clean and friendly staff
- 5/5
Nice small hotel. It was nice to have a small breakfast incuded.
- 4/5
Room clean , bed comfy , lovely quick breakfast , very nice desk staff . Heat not the best & extremely loud . Quite basic accommodation but clean & convenient
- 5/5
Nice room, very friendly staff
- 5/5
The only problem was our shower wasn't draining right but they moved us to another room. Staff was attentive to our needs
- 5/5
Clean, good location, great price
- 3/5
I stayed for one night. Upon checking in, there were a few downsides: there was no view outside of our window (just a wall, atleast for floor 1), there was a old bagel left behind the bed stand, there was hair inside of the bed, and the sink did not drain. We asked for service to fix the sink and nobody ended up coming. All of that aside, it was a decent rate and conveniently located near food, subways, and a little park. They also held our luggage for free before and after checking out. Check out time was also at noon, which was nice. I did not get to check out the breakfast but it was available.
- 3/5
Heating didn't work in our room, so we froze all night
- 3/5
Hotel location is convenient and rooms are quiet. Breakfast consists of a few items in the corner of the tiny lobby - bruised apples, shriveled mandarins, mini scones, muffins and croisssnts (best option). No decaf coffee. No coffee makers in room - guests must call to have individual cups (lukewarm) delivered. Balcony view is of a dark brick shaft. Pillows smell - have not been cleaned or replaced for too long. No streaming options on tv. We stayed there during the holidays and the price was way out of line for what was delivered.
- 4/5
Very clean and nice staff
- 5/5
Great stay!
- 5/5
Excellent location at a reasonable price.
- 5/5
Everything was great considering the great price.
- 5/5
Staffs are very friendly and helpful.
- 4/5
Staff were friendly and helpful. Room was clean and comfortable
- 4/5
The staff was exceptionally kind and helpful… Nick S.
- 1/5
After surgery, I returned on a walker. The staff did not open the door, acknowledge me, or offer help, despite the hotel charging a “concierge service” resort fee that was clearly not provided. Expedia’s handling made everything worse. I told them multiple times—while on prescribed opioid pain medication—that I could not take phone calls, and one of their agents even confirmed the case would be handled by email. Despite this, Expedia repeatedly attempted to call me and insisted a phone call was required, ignoring medical limitations and creating an unnecessary accessibility barrier. They also gave inconsistent answers about compensation, offering a refund and then contradicting themselves. This entire experience showed a lack of accessibility awareness from both the hotel and Expedia. Not recommended.
- 3/5
Decent room, no food
- 5/5
Courteous staff, small but serviceable room, convienient location
- 5/5
Great location and helpful, friendly staff.
- 5/5
Very clean, very friendly and accommodating to all of our needs!
- 4/5
Room was nice and clean, front desk was nice
- 3/5
Not the cleanest room. Hair ball on the floor. Sink wouldn’t drain. Soap bar left in the shower.
- 5/5
Love the balcony. It’s small but it’s nice to have right there instead of going all the way outside. Rooftop was cozy in the morning.
- 4/5
It was an ordinary continental breakfast, would have been more balanced with some whole wheat bread as well.
- 5/5
Friendly staff clean room
- 3/5
Clean nice staff minimal usual hotel accommodations and services. Price too high for the stay
- 4/5
I was pleasantly surprised by the amenities
- 5/5
Helpful staff
- 5/5
Courteous staff
- 4/5
The room was clean and the staff were courteous. If you are noise sensitive, the first floor has a server room that emits a high-pitched beep.
- 4/5
The room and bathroom area was clean. Loved the rooftop view and the one sheet provided to give nearby food and store options. The continental breakfast provided was okay, not many food options though.
- 5/5
Walls are paper-thin and I could hear conversations in the rooms next to me.
- 3/5
The bedding smells like uncleaned. The power port area has heavy dusts. The shower door won’t close.
- 5/5
Basic, but clean and well located. Good value; nice to have continental breakfast included. Very pleasant helpful staff. Our room overlooking the street was quiet.
- 5/5
Great room for the price in NYC. Balcony faced inwards so not much view, but the views from the rooftop lounge were very nice! Breakfast was croissants, muffins, apples, and coffee/tea. Immediate neighborhood felt safe. Many larger chain hotels in the city would have this room for $1000+.
- 5/5
Wish there were better breakfast options. Cute little hotel. Balcony was great!
- 1/5
What a disappointment! Hotel is in a great area, but that’s about it. Several significant issues including dirty rooms, no hot water, dead remote batteries, no working phones in the room and towels with holes. The front desk was not helpful and the manager was never available. We tried to address these issues and received no help. Stay far away from this one.
- 4/5
Last minute booking, staff great to work with. Needed a place to stay while family was in hospital nearby. Price was right, room was clean, continental breakfast a bonus. Thank you!
- 4/5
Manni and the whole staff were friendly and warm which was perfect for me since I was alone - I needed a little connection - the hotel was great the only thing was for my back the bed was not the best. I had a great stay and experience and am very grateful to all who work there!
- 5/5
Reasonable size bathroom for a New York City Hotel room. Room is surprisingly quiet even though it faces Lexington Ave. Helpful staff
- 4/5
Clean tiny room. Ton of construction in the middle of the night across the street
- 5/5
As always, I had a great stay!!
- 3/5
The pictures on the website most certainly does this hotel justice because the property itself did not compare. The balcony was very unkept and no scenery at all. There were alot of feathers and bird waste as well so didnt really even want to sit outside. Our ned sheets had stains on them. And found hair in our restroom sink upon arrival. Besides that the room itself was spacious and nice. Staff was pleasant. Rooftop was also misleading. Would i stay here again, probably not. But wasnt all bad. Just not to my standards for a city hotel. Found other properties with balconies for around the same price i probably would of went with had it not been for the pictures at this property.
- 5/5
The staff was very friendly. There is a security deposit when you check in that gets refunded when you check out. Breakfast is assorted pastries, cereal, and fruit. It was affordable and I would stay here again.
- 4/5
Good sized room for NYC, great location on Lexington Avenue
- 4/5
Great location. Decent room size.
- 5/5
Staff was attentive and the room was very clean! Great location as well
- 5/5
Very nice place
- 5/5
Nice rooftop with view of Empire State Building.
- 4/5
Good NY sized room. There were 3 adults in the junior suite that had 2 queen size beds. There was enough closet space for all of us.
- 4/5
The staff was great, would be nice to have a mini fridge and microwave as when you come from out of town you have leftovers that would be nice to store in a fridge.
- 3/5
Near restaurants on Park Ave. South
- 5/5
Good location. Friendly staff.
- 5/5
Clean room, quiet hotel, staff is very friendly and its nearby the places i wanted to visit
- 5/5
It was very nice and small rooms but very clean, it would be nice to have a plug on both sides to charge your phone. The staff were very nice and the neighborhood was fine. It just looked a little worn down.
- 5/5
I love this place. Great staff and a laid back atmosphere. Rooms are comfortable and pleasant.
- 3/5
Pretty good and cheap stay overall. Mine mattress has lots of hairs on it, possibly needs more attention on cleanliness.
- 3/5
The hotel is older and a bit bland, basic rooms laid out a bit oddly. Would have appreciated a shelf or two in the bathroom or a few extras - everything a bit monochrome. Front desk couldn’t explain what the high “resort fee” supposedly covered. Few amenities besides the continental breakfast and two bottles of water.
- 4/5
Spartan, but clean. Pretty pricey, but it’s NYC. Convenient location for me. Staff very helpful.
- 5/5
Great place to stay
- 1/5
Never stay there. Rooms are terrible. I could not get comfortable. No redeeming qualities.
- 5/5
Small but pleasant, helpful staff. Clean. No frills, but adequate in every other way.
- 1/5
The upstairs rooms in this hotel might be fine, but my experience was atrocious! When I arrived I was told my room was not accessible through the regular elevators, I was on the "garden level" which meant I took a special elevator to B (for BASEMENT). When I got down there it was indeed a basement, with small rabbit-warren of hallways . . .all completely covered in plastic ferns (I guess to make it seem like a garden -- see photo!) The room was truly a basement room, covered in ridiculously annoying wallpaper, with a window onto an air shaft underground. The room was fit for a rat not a human. I used the room just long enough to find another room in a hotel a few blocks away and left. I found the entire experience truly terrifying.
- 5/5
Convenient location, great staff, surprisingly well sized room/bath for the location and price.
- 4/5
It has almost everything you need, clean and good beds. The room did not have fridge
- 4/5
Rooms are on the small side but very modern and clean. Nice area, very conveniently located
- 3/5
Great location
- 5/5
We're here for just one night but the hotel entrance is unassuming, elegant and clean. Check in staff is very cordial and helpful and the room is exactly what we needed for the night - just right for 2. A super comfortable place to sleep (nice firm bed!), AC was going strong (it was a hot day!) and bathroom was perfect. AND for NYC, a very reasonable price and near many restaurants on 3rd Ave. Will definitely come back
- 4/5
It's a solid hotel with a bigger than most NYC bathrooms. Our "upgraded" room that we paid an extra $20/night faced a brick wall. But it was quiet! Bed was comfortable. Staff was friendly.
- 5/5
Great location and price
- 4/5
Okay for a short stay
- 5/5
Property would clean room / refresh towels upon request only
- 5/5
I needed the Check-in early and it wasn't an issue. They took care of me and took care of all my needs. It's very convenient, very clean and very good staff.Very knowledgeable of the area.Pointing me out in a lot of good restaurants while I was there
- 5/5
good
- 4/5
The neighborhood is convenient to get around the city.
- 3/5
⸻ This is a budget hotel – clean, safe, and comfortable enough for a short stay, but far from great. The room was small, bed comfy, but charging points only on one side of the bed, old USB ports (no USB-C), and no fridge unless requested – ridiculous when even budget UK hotels have one plus tea/coffee facilities. The bathroom was clean but impractical – a tiny child-sized bath and the lowest toilet I’ve ever seen. Breakfast “included” was served in the lobby on uncomfortable stools, with little space. No dairy-free milk options (asked for oat milk, got a blank look). The “continental” breakfast was sad: dry croissants with grape jam, a scone-like item, muffins, cheap cereal, and weak coffee. A few simple, well-presented NYC-style items (bagels, cream cheese, fruit, decent coffee, milk variety) would make a huge difference. The rooftop could be used for this but isn’t. On arrival, I was charged an extra £60 “service fee” plus a security deposit – supposedly for water and cleaning, which should be included in the room rate. Overall, not worth the extra charges or the lack of thought in guest experiences.
- 5/5
Convenient and easy to book. Great room.
- 5/5
In the city for an overnight and we found this hotel to be convenient to where we were visiting and a good value. Rooms are clean and generally up to date. Small but included breakfast was a nice touch too.
- 3/5
The room and the AC are noisy.
- 3/5
Staff was very nice. However the first time we used the bathroom sink it clogged up. Our in room phone did not work. Staff came to fix the clog within 15mins, they never fixed the phone. So if I needed something I had to go to the front desk. The shower drain would fill up while taking a shower. Right outside of our window was a ‘deep pit like area’ where a bunch of pigeons lived with their eggs so we just kept the shade closed. We were only there for one night but I definitely wouldn’t have stayed another night.
- 5/5
It was a really nice stay at Lex very convenient with the location for our trip. Room is smaller than we expected but nice. The staff was great and anything we needed they took care of it
- 5/5
I like that this hotel is on a major subway line and bus line that takes you from uptown to the World Trade Center. No need for taxi or Uber.
- 5/5
The room was small but had all of the essentials. It was clean and the front desk staff was helpful.
- 3/5
This hotel should have a coffee machine in each room and a small fridge. The rooms was not very spacious
- 5/5
Clean and convenient stay. Great pastries included for breakfast. Staff were so friendly and helpful.
- 5/5
The property was very good value for the price point. Clean, friendly staff, very nice roof top lounge.
- 5/5
Romeo was incredibly friendly and helpful! Excellent customer service!

Made a quick day trip to the city and the hotel was close to the event, as well as transportation. Room was smaller but for the price and location was great ( other rooms in the city are of comparable size). Arrived early and was going to drop luggage while went out and was pleasantly surprised at the available early check in, and the price point for this was really good. Staff was always friendly and room was very clean. Made a last minute trip very easy. Highly reccomend
- 5/5
Good stay
- 2/5
Check in was not good
- 5/5
Great location, excellent service and parking nearby
- 4/5
Just what we needed on short notice. Decent value but “resort” fee is just more price. Stop listing without this fee. Room was small but clean and up to date. Window ac worked fine. Night clerk at desk not the best but ok.
- 5/5
Lovely staff, clean space!!
- 4/5
Place was as advertised. Ice service was prompt. Rooftop and unexpected delight.
- 5/5
I've stayed in this area many times but this is the first time I chose this hotel. We will be back. The room was quiet, clean and roomy; great for the two of us.
- 5/5
Staff was accommodating. Hotel was clean.
- 5/5
The only issue I had was the water in the shower did not get hot. I told the front desk but I was only there for one night. Everything else was great!
- 5/5
Great place great service. Highly recommend!
- 3/5
The property was run down
- 3/5
Comfy room but very bad shower and amenities were very poor. Breakfast ends too early.
- 5/5
Great place with a wonderful staff. Very good location.
- 4/5
Everyone was so friendly and accommodating. I felt very safe as a young person staying here.
- 5/5
Clean, comfy and the nicest staff!
- 5/5
Extremely friendly and well appointed hotel. Have stayed many times now. Amazing staff!
- 5/5
Very nice & property. The staff was great & we loved the rooftop area!
- 5/5
I want to thank the Lex Hotel staff in particular. Our room was comfortable and the location was very convenient (close to the 6 subway line), but the staff we interacted with, all of them, were kind, knowledgeable, and considerate.
- 5/5
Rooms were small but super clean and efficient.
- 2/5
AC did not work at all, opening the window introduced the smell of fryolator from the alley
- 3/5
The Lex Hotel's Main Photo was off a rooftop patio. However, if it even sprinkled rain for 2 minutes at 7am they would keep it closed all day. Room was drab grey, no pictures and a bit depressing. Also, breakfast ending at 9am and not 10am wasn't ideal as tourist travelers. Location was great, staff were always friendly. Overall okay but for $300 a night a bit disappointing.
- 5/5
The staff was friendly and helpful. My room was very clean. The only thing I wish it had was a mini fridge to put a few items in. I will definitely be back.
- 2/5
If they clearly labeled the rooms “garden level,” had dehumidifiers in them, charged far less, and had floor coverings, it would have been fine. As it was, a hostel would have been far nicer and a fraction of the price. That said, the aboveground rooms seemed nice, and if a person could be sure they had one of those, it might be a very nice hotel.

Very unhappy about the excess fees! It really put a damper on the stay. Otherwise, it's a great location.

Very nice hotel. Rooms a little small but clean and comfortable. Free breakfast is basically continental. Good price for Manhattan. Staff was very friendly.

Though the room was small, it was perfectly clean and comfortable. Lots of restaurants within an easy walk and convenient for the reason we were in the city.

The room was large and clean and staff are so friendly and professional. I will definitely stay here again.

The room was really quiet and the black out shades kept it super dark! I slept like a baby!

I was given one of two adjoining rooms. The people in the 2nd adjoining room were very noisy, especially in the late night, early morning. This room should not be used if the adjoining room is. There is no sound proofing between them.

I found the staff to be amazing, and very accomadating. I appreciate the extra touches. Hotel has thin walls but they offer ear plugs. By running my fan all night it drowned out most noise. I would definitely stay here again!

We had a balcony. Only the 7th floor had a good view so I’d say we are very lucky to have a balcony ON THE TOP FLOOR IF YOU WANT A GOOD VIEW ASK FOR THE 7th FLOOR
