We recently stayed at The Leo House during our visit to New York City and found it to be a comfortable, clean and excellent-value option in a city where accommodation can be extraordinarily expensive. The location was one of the biggest advantages. We found it very convenient for exploring Manhattan, with easy access to public transport, attractions and plenty of dining options nearby. Our room was clean and well maintained, and the property felt safe and welcoming throughout our stay. The included breakfast each morning was a lovely bonus and something that is becoming increasingly rare these days. It was a great way to start the day before heading out to explore the city. What stood out most, however, was the kindness of the staff. Everyone we encountered was friendly, helpful and accommodating. We were especially grateful that they allowed us access to shower facilities before our long flight back to Australia, which made a huge difference after a full day of sightseeing and before many hours of travel. The Leo House may not offer all the luxuries of some of New York’s more expensive hotels, but it delivers something equally important: genuine hospitality, cleanliness, comfort and excellent value for money. Thank you to the staff for helping make our stay in New York such a pleasant one. The Leo House is more of a comfortable home away from home than a luxury hotel. Travellers seeking high-end facilities, modern luxury finishes or extensive hotel amenities may find it quite simple. However, that is also part of its charm. What it offers is clean, comfortable accommodation, a great location, good value for money and genuinely kind, welcoming staff. As long as you arrive with the right expectations, it delivers exactly what it promises.

I have stayed at the Leo House for many years and happily recommend it to others. The staff, the location, the cleanliness and the breakfast are superb.
- 4/5
It’s a wonderful place in a very pleasant location. Breakfast was great. The place feels very safe. The place is different from a regular hotel. Nothing is bad about this, but the policies are held over from the old days when it was a house for visiting clergy. I was perfectly happy with the restrictions such as no “guests,” but some may not like them.

Location is great, very close to Penn station which makes it very easy to go to JFK...

Breakfast was fine, saved us going out for it. The only issue was with trying to charge things, the appliances in the room were faulty
- 2/5
Room was reasonably clean but the decor was dated. Bed was too small for two people and one of us actually fell out of the bed during the night. Breakfast was good. The hotel is cheap, but I wouldn’t stay here again
- 1/5
The worst hotel I've ever stayed at. The man at the front desk laughed at us because of our French accent. It was really inappropriate and mean. The worst room I’ve ever seen brown water ran from the bathroom faucet for over 5 minutes. The bathtub was completely chipped, and the bed was a mess. We had to sleep in a single bed; the other bed was so wobbly that it was impossible to stay in it without falling to the floor. TERRIBLE. We had to leave our keys at the front desk when we went out, and it was very complicated to get them back when we returned. The only good things were the view of New York from the room and the breakfast. I don’t understand the positive reviews. We will NEVER stay at this hotel again.

Great location. Excellent breakfast. Comfortable beds. Great to have own toilet and sink Quite noisy which might bother some. I was on 7th floor so sound travels up. But I felt this was part of NYC experience, the city doesn’t sleep! It didn’t stop me sleeping

This place was very inexpensive for Manhattan. I knew it was going to be very basic and I had a good stay. The AC unit in the window worked but had a hard time cooling the very small room. My biggest complaint was that it was very bright in my room by 7am even with the curtain closed as much as possible.
- 4/5
Good location, nice breakfast, clean, towels changed every day, good bathroom cosmetics, well organised guest house. Loud from the street, beds not so comfortable.
- 4/5
The breakfast and how well maintained the facilities in spite of the age of the building built in 1889.
- 4.5/5
Good value for the neighborhood (expensive compared to most of the country, but good value for Manhattan north of Chinatown and south of 50th St) A few historical architectural details that remind me of how my great-grandparents would have lived. Modern in other ways, such as flat screen television and WiFi. Separate WiFi router in each room. Near subway station. These are not necessarily things that I did not like, but they are things that could be issues for some people, so consider them before making a decision: 1. They tell you not to take the key with you when you go out, and to leave the key at the front desk and ask for it back when you return. 2. Rooms have crucifixes on the wall. 3. Room is not carpeted, you have to dry your feet after shower/bath so that you don't slip.

Location! Neighborhood amenities. Staff was mostly great. Price. The room I had was really dated and didn’t feel clean. By the end of my stay I was more comfortable with it, but initially I was concerned.
- 3/5
They laughed when I banged into the door, and when I asked for any help. The door stop in the shared bathroom was broken, it would not stay up, so it was painful for me to keep it up until the door closed, then I was able to lock the door, They laughed a that too. They charged an extra $30.00 per cleaning of my bedroom. This place was a disgrace. I will not go back, not would I recommend it to anyone. TELL THEM TO BE A LITTLE MORE COURTEOUS AND HELPFUL NEXT TIME> NO ONE NEEDS a lazy comedian when having mobility issues.
- 4/5
The staff were great and the air conditioning cooled the room down on two extremely hot days in late May. I also was really pleasantly surprised by the abundance of really delicious fresh fruit at breakfast. The in-room bathroom floor was really dirty when we checked in and two of the three showers weren’t working properly on our floor.
- 5/5
Perfect for a budget-friendly solo trip!
- 4/5
The rooms are bare bone but clean and the beds are comfortable. When I booked in November for a May stay only the least expensive room type was still available: it included a twin bed, small closet, bathroom, and ac. Fortunately, they had hooked up the air conditioners because there was a heat wave while we were there. I’m not sure when they get the ac going - it says end of May in the literature but we had it from May 18th. The noise level was generally quiet, except for doors closing loudly and perhaps housekeeping carts noise. The included breakfast is really a good deal: lots of variety. The coffee is ok, not great. My room did not have a mirror of any kind except for the small mirror over the sink in the bathroom. Nor could I find a full length mirror anywhere in the common spaces, elevators, or lobby. My television didn’t work and the staff said it was an issue with Verizon so there was nothing they could do. Apparently some other rooms were having the same problem. I was told the TV was “a complimentary amenity and not a guaranteed component of the room rate” so no discount or partial refund was forthcoming. I think all in all The Leo House is a great option for travelers on a tight budget.

Excellent place to stay when in New York. Deep in Chelsea - short walk to the Uptown/Downtown subway lines. Very helpful staff and breakfast every morning (except Sunday). Highly recommended.

1) I needed to put some items in the safe & I could not get it to work. I called the office about it and they sent up a maintenance person & he could not get it to properly work. So I could not use the safe at all. 2) I arrived on a very warm day in New York & the staff could not be bothered to turn on some AC before I got there. The room was 88. I turned on the AC thermostat to 73 and after a 5 hour period when I was at a play in town, it was still at least 80 degrees. I contacted the office and the gal said she could not do anything about it. She suggested I open the window. Well the AC unit is screwed to the window so you cannot open it. It was too hot to sleep. So I lowered the thermostat to 61 degrees. Overnite it only dropped to 78 in the room. Still too hot to sleep. 3) the shower nozzle would not stay in the holder provided for it & would just drop to the floor. The only thing I could do with it was slide it behind the rod half way down. 4I registered for this room online so they had all my information. When I got there, they took a copy of my drivers license & ran my credit card for a deposit. Then they handed me a paper where I had to handwrite in all the information I had just given them. Why? It was the slowest ever hotel check in that I have ever had and I was running late for my play. I barely made it. Their check in process is totally inefficient. Spend your money elsewhere
- 5/5
I like the excellent attention from the staff. They made my stay really comfortable.

I wanted to like this place more; I felt safe staying there, the bed was comfy, and the staff was nice. However, the room I had wasn't clean; my feet got dirty walking across the floor and I had to wipe them off before I got in bed. I knew that the building was dated, no problem with that, but the bathroom was gross. Paint was peeling from the tiles around the toilet, sink, and bathtub. Inside the tub, the paint was peeled and rust was evident not just around the drain. I did not feel clean or sanitary showering in there; and even though it was a single room, the door wouldn't even shut all the way. Pros though, the breakfast was good and it was a good location for sightseeing.

Extremely friendly staff, very good breakfast, a simple but clean room, and an unbeatable location. I am really happy this kind of traditional and thoughtful accommodation exists in NYC . Also I got to stay in the room Mother Theresa once stayed in! It’s simple, but that’s ok for the price!

The breakfast buffet was good, wasn’t top-notch, but it had a lot of things to choose from my biggest reef was the rooms TV was too small and the bed could’ve woke up the dead, considering how hard it was it almost felt like the stone table and the Chronicles of Narnia, and the truly the best part of the entire experience was the staff they did the best job they could, but I go back never again, but that’s not because of a Leo house that’s because New York is too expensive of a place to visit

The hotel is in a great location, close to subway 23rd street and other stops on this street, but also walking distance everywhere. Staff was very friendly and helpful, always smiling. Hotel is older and so is the equipment but everything is clean and cleaned on daily basis, even your room if you wish. Our room was facing the yard so the street noise was subtle. Shared shower was always available and even though it was right next to our room, we were not bothered. The greatest was the breakfast that was not even expected since it was not mentioned during booking. Wide choice of food, same every day, which was ok. No breakfast on sundays. There is also coffee tea and water available all day. Nice touch were the earplugs provided. There was shower gel missing in the shower, which was not a problem since we brought my own. Just the container was empty and shampoo and conditioner was full.
- 4/5
Lovely people. Too much disposable plastic in use in the dining room, bring back the thick china cups etc.
- 4.5/5
Great location. Friendly staff. Room was clean, comfortable bed & shower. Better value for money on Manhattan is not possible. No airco or fan in the room. Gets very hot.
- 3.5/5
Very central, nice staff, free breakfast, good enough facilities Furniture and room style is a little outdated and a tad dingy. But altogether was clean and I felt comfortable enough
- 5/5
Perfect place near the city. Very simple but has all the needs. The free breakfast is REALLY good, the staff really kind and the hotel in general is pretty clean. Nothing bad to say about it.
- 5/5
Staff super friendly and helpful. Room nice and clean. Bed was too small for a queen.
- 4.5/5
The location is excellent and it is affordable. I would prefer a shower stall - it is difficult getting in and out of a tub
- 4/5
The location is excellent for all the usual places to visit. Many are a 20 to 30 minute walk away. The subway is 100 yards from the hotel and the hotel is excellent value for the location. The free breakfast is excellent and I will definitely use again. If you are rich go to the Chelsea Hotel 200 yards from this one for £800 a night. If you are not use this one. Street noise at night can be loud as we had a room at the front of the hotel, but this is New York. That having been said I slept like a baby using ear plugs every night.

I love Leo House, stayed twice now. It's a very warm homely hotel. Staff are wonderful, room and overall everything is very clean. Lovely breakfast Monday to Friday. In yhe midtown area so great for getting around. Nothing
- 5/5
Appreciated the many different options from the breakfast buffet. Also, as a fellow Catholic traveler this was a good place to stop and show reverence in the Chapel. If I ever need to stop in NYC again this would be the place to stay.

Some things to note, if you get the cheaper option you will not have a shower in your room, we did not realize this until we showed up. It's an old place that has an odd smell in the hallways and elevator. The staff was nice but you need to return you key every time you leave because its an actual key not a card key. This was fine but just something to note. I was disappointed with the breakfast, its similar to something you can get at a quality inn, the scrambled eggs were warmed up in a plastic bag in the microwave so I did not eat it after the first day. It's an affordable stay and I enjoyed it but if you care about these small details maybe pay to go somewhere better.

The room was very clean. I was disappointed I thought breakfast was gonna be served and I guess there is no breakfast on Sundays.
- 5/5
stuck open a bit and letting in a lot of unwanted city noise, I was able to fix it the second night. The staff were friendly enough. The included breakfast is excellent in terms of quality and variety; which makes the stay a solid value. I talked to a fellow guest that has been staying there for 50 years, so that says something - I’d stay there again too.
- 5/5
On the corner is a Target, and a great little deli/grocery, where I had large smounts of delicious food cooked on the spot at a reasonable price Your room is priced according to th amenities: private bath, shower, single or double bed, etc, so you pay what you can afford. Most guests range in the 20-40 or 60-80. Very helpful staff. It was oriiginally designed for German, Catholic immigrants 150 years ago, but is open to anyone. Also, it is was moved from the original building to a newer one.

The unfussiness and utlitarian nature of the Leo House might not appeal to every traveler. However there is a unique simplicity and charm to the Leo House. It feels European to me -- traditional, not flashy. The communal spaces (the garden, the chapel!) the breakfast, the price, the kind staff and the location cannot be beat. i cant think of anything

An affordable hotel in a great location, The Leo House is welcoming, friendly and very efficiently run. Material luxury is not the main focus so the rooms are quite basic. That said, the linen is clean and fresh, the beds comfortable and our room was serviced regularly. Plenty of hot water at all times, hair dryers etc are available from Reception, very good wifi - so all needs are catered for. The breakfast is excellent, with plenty of choice and lovely fresh fruit daily. We also enjoyed sitting in the small garden at the back of the hotel. There is inevitably some traffic noise, but I would definitely recommend this hotel.
- 5/5
Super clean. Felt very safe. Staff and other guests were very friendly. Interesting people from all over the world! It was actually fine for me... but my friend is 5'11" tall so the not-extra-long beds left her feet hanging off the end!

We stayed in a recently renovated room and it was so clean and comfy ,felt like home away from home .I love the chapel on the 2nd floor and the vending machine in the lobby area was nice to have ,free breakfast served every day except on Sundays,I will definitely try and stay on my next visit to NYC Our room was on the chilly side and didn't know how to regulate the heat.
- 4/5
Good location. Relaxed and well managed.
- 3.5/5
Small outside garden. The bed was comfortable and the bedding was new. Breakfast and Dining room. Centrally located. The hallways smelled bad. The doors were so thin I heard everything in the hallway. The decor was very dated, dark and seemed old.
- 3/5
I happened to stay at the Leo House when it was quite chilly and there was no heat which it made it uncomfortable. I did ask for an extra blanket and was accommodated which made it fine for sleeping but for dining and sitting around it was too cold. I would say it would be better if you were an early riser--the walls are thin and one can hear loud activity from staff in the hallway by 7:00 am.
- 1/5
Unfortunately, my first trip to New York. Thought I got a deal on this property, however I went when it was 70 degrees and apparently only the lobby has AC. The rooms do not. I left within 20min. They would not help with a refund bc they said that AC is “seasonal” on their website. What a joke.
- 4/5
Wonderful heritage building in an amazing location. The story of Leo House is so important in this age of faceless corporate hotels. My single room with private bathroom was small but had everything I needed. The beds and pillows are wonderful! With a few exceptions, the front desk staff are clearly not well trained. I encountered rude and on one occasion actively hostile staff which is just unacceptable. Despite asking, the TV in my room never worked and the shower was also not fixed. This is such a shame as otherwise I would be delighted to stay again.
- 5/5
It's a great economical option. It should be noted that breakfast is not included on Sundays so something to keep in mind.
- 4/5
No air conditioning. Was there in April. It was85 degrees in New York. They did give ne a fan when I asked for it.
- 5/5
Great breakfast, location and everyone was very kind.

I came into NYC for a Celebration of Life and to see a Broadway play. My walking club members and I had stayed here years ago. I love the quiet of the property and it's proximity to the 8th Ave subways as I had to go to both the West Village and to 42nd Street. The staff was helpful in guiding me to my destinations. No breakfast on Sundays. I did go to Mass.
- 5/5
This was my first time staying at this hotel, and it was a pleasant experience I will definitely stay there again
- 5/5
the breakfast was most enjoyable the shower was a bit weird until learning how to use it. The room wasn't well ventilated
- 3/5
Good location. Delicious breakfast. Affordable rooms with private bathroom, towels and free toiletries. The room was pretty run down. There was no fan and the AC wasn’t on even though it was 85º. You get what you pay for.
- 4/5
I enjoyed my stay at the Leo house in new york. The staff were friendly and very helpful. The location is great and within walking distance to Subway's, taxi's and easy access to transportation. Plenty of shops to walk around and some excellent experiences. Not that far from time square either. Just wish I had 24/7 access to a minifridge and or a microwave.
- 5/5
What a wonderful surprise! The facility is a walk in history, with beautifully preserved original features throughout. I was especially enamored with the kitchen and dining areas. Spacious lounges. Absolute treasure!
- 4/5
Leo House is a great choice for a budget conscious traveler who is looking for accommodations with character. I loved the location of course but breakfast was also a big plus --- it is served in a nice communal room with lots of options. The rooms are plain but more than sufficient and the staff is very nice.
- 3/5
Hotel is dated, rooms are dark, room pictures do not reflect actual rooms.
- 5/5
Excellent for the price. Great location
- 5/5
Location, a bit of a walk from train station, but 10 min max. Breakfast very good. Is not modern, but this did not bother us much
- 4.5/5
This was probably one of the quietest and most comfortable places that I've ever stayed in New York City. I would definitely want to stay here again as this hotel has truly the charm of a traditional New York City residence nothing

I had a great room! The Leo House is great.
- 1/5
I left the hotel and did not stay there because it was disgustingly unfit for occupancy.
- 4/5
Ideally located in the middle of Chelsea, great price, wonderful tasty breakfast... The request to pay in advance outside of the app was worrying, but all made to work at the end after several lengthy calls... The condition of the rooms and common showers can be improved... All in all, best deal in Manhattan if you don't want to pay a fortune and can compromise with the condition of the rooms
- 5/5
It was clean, safe, friendly staff, great breakfast, and offered daily Mass.
- 5/5
Clean and adequet.
- 4/5
Very quaint and cozy.
- 4/5
Great location. Safe building. Breakfast and coffee were mediocre at best. The first room I was given smelled like paint and there was paint spilled all over the floor everywhere. There was no garbage can. They explained they were going to change out the carpet but maybe don’t rent out the room until that project is done? Second room was painted with new carpet.
- 4/5
I feel secure in this place (buzz to get in) and it is right by the ACE line, which is super convenient at night. The rooms are exactly what you need. The staff is friendly and helpful. They are updating some of their rooms (mine included), so the only negative I will say is that when I checked in late the first night, mine smelled strongly of paint. They had opened the window, but without the cross-ventilation of having the door open, it didn't help much. I had to keep the window open my entire time. I would just double-check if you're staying in a refurbished room and what measures they have taken to air it out.
- 5/5
Good breakfast - shame it is not available on a Sunday.
- 5/5
Everything good except for shower outside the room
- 4/5
Rooms were comfortable and homey, just on the small side, but very clean when we arrived and during our week stay. The one negative was that on a couple of occasions the shower went from cold to hot to very hot suddenly. The breakfast was good: fruit, yogurt, scrambled eggs, sausage/bacon, waffles, coffee, cottage cheese, juices, bread, bagels. We heard the street noise from the room, but not unusual for New York City. Public transportation was easy to walk to. We would happily stay again!
- 5/5
Great location. Close to subway. Wonderful breakfast. Accommodating and welcoming staff.
- 5/5
Loved the stay, great breakfast and wonderful location.
- 5/5
Very friendly staff, homey accommodations, and a chapel which is the queen of all amenities.

The Leo House is always such a gem to stay at when I go to NYC!! The price is unbeatable, the staff is extremely friendly and helpful, and overall it’s a pleasant stay with a welcoming feel, as if you’re staying at a close friend’s house for a few days. Would recommend this hotel to anyone who is looking for a hotel to stay in NYC that is clean, affordable, simple, and friendly!
- 4/5
Not much trouble with checking in or out. Staff were pleasant, and the room was good.
- 5/5
clean, basic, good breakfast, convenient, quiet
- 5/5
I never write reviews but this place was incredible. We stayed over Christmas and the staff couldn’t have been more friendly. It was the perfect location, walkable to many places (with views of The Edge) but also with a subway stop a minute away (perfect if you are coming from JFK too as the E line runs direct from Jamaica Station). The breakfast was so so nice too, homemade waffles, fresh fruit, bagels and so much more. We were blown away considering the price. We have recommended to friends who are staying in October now too. If we’re ever back in NYC, this is where we’ll stay! Thank you!
- 5/5
All in all a great experience from check in to check out and do not miss their delicious breakfast!!
- 5/5
No breakfast offered.
- 4/5
Comfortable, convenient for our needs (trade show travel). Some remodeling work going on, some facilities closed.
- 4/5
The room was very clean, comfortable, staff was kind, friendly and attentive to detail. Our stay was pleasant. Be aware that there’s no breakfast on sundays.

Everything was top-notch. Very nice management. We really enjoyed a lot there. Highly recommend.

Affordable, centrally located, clean, unpretentious, simple, friendly, helpful staff, nice breakfast included. Will stay again.
- 4/5
The best value in NY. Safe, modest lodging with a great big breakfast buffet in the morning.
- 3/5
Clean and great location but the property is old, small rooms and feels like a converted Catholic college dorm with a crucifix in each room -- not offensive to me, just a fact. Shared shower between multiple guest rooms is not my thing - this alone would cause me not to come back. Price attracted me for NYC - cost about half the going hotel rates of national chains. Staff is excellent. Take it for what it is and you'll love it. For business travel, next time I will pay the higher prices to get the amenities in my room with more square footage. On a budget and just want a place to crash at night - this place is a gem.
- 5/5
It was great! Staff was helpful and the room was comfortable.
- 5/5
The staff are amazing and the location of Leo house is awesome for getting to all the attractions. Will definitely go back!
- 4/5
Breakfast was great, the waffles went down a storm with my 11 year old!
- 5/5
In the heart of manhattan. Everything is walkable.
- 5/5
A basic clean room at a good price.
- 2/5
Having no WiFi in the room is inconvenient. Also, breakfast isn’t included on Sundays which should be made clear to customers before purchasing. I would not have booked had I known. Lastly, you have to leave your key at the front desk every time you leave.
- 4/5
I took a bad fall down town & was bleeding & the staff was really wonderful! It is a safe place to stay. The only thing is the rooms are really hot & I had to open a window
- 4/5
Room was clean and safe. A bit worn but fine for a single night. Staff was nice and helpful. Building was very nice.
- 1/5
One of the worst hotel experiences of all time. Predatory management, which stole our security deposit because we were a few minutes late coming downstairs to check out because we lost a button. They take pleasure in screwing over their guests; seem entirely fueled by spite. Also, the plumbing and heating were incredibly loud and woke us up several times during the night. Just hilarious that a Catholic guesthouse would be the most uncharitable place you could possibly stay. Avoid the Leo House at any cost. It’s a scheme and a ripoff. They will find a way to steal your money.
- 4/5
Very pleased with my choice on hotel, value for money friendly staff and good location.
- 5/5
Perfect location. Friendly and helpful staff. Great buffet breakfast.
- 5/5
Breakfast was plentiful , hot and served in a lovely dining area.

Relatively good price that include breakfast, for New-York.
- 5/5
Basic, comfortable, very well priced especially with breakfast included, subway and penn station closeby. Quiet. great sleep.
- 5/5
For the price and location of the hotel, the Leo was an absolutely amazing stay. Rooms were always clean and comfortable, the staff were very friendly and helpful, and the whole hotel had a very cozy atmosphere. Would definitely stay here again!
- 2/5
Breakfast was nothing like the photos on this website and the room was painted in dark grey prison like colour. Again nothing like the photos advertised on this site. The tv didnt work due to wifi connectiing issues. Wouldnt reccomend this place to anyone. Misled but the advertised images.. Avoid
- 2/5
I did not have cable during my entire stay. I learned that the entire floor did not have cable and it was a problem with Verizon, so it seems that they been happening this problem for a while. I asked person what they were they going to do about it and was told nothing. She was not at all helpful. I hardly slept due to the noise. I would not recommend this place. The least that they could have done is offer some type of compensation. And they have to change the scrambled eggs.
- 4/5
Value-price made my being able to stay in city to attend a special event possible. Location good for my using Penn sta and subway lines and felt safe. Kind staff. Room VERY basic, but I expected that. TV, in room did not work and there was no bedside lamp.
- 1/5
Since I booked a single room with half bath through Expedia, I was given , for me, uninhabitable room right next to the elevator shaft. Too noisy to sleep, no TV, and no hot water. I asked for a room elsewhere when I made the reservation but they disregard request through Expedia. Hotel was full so I left after two days. The remainder was non-refundable but hoping Expedia insurance can refund
- 3/5
Staff very courteous; breakfast was pretty good; room very outdated and minimalistic; bed was comfortable and bathroom very clean
- 5/5
I did notice that the mattress had a tendency to fold up like a taco, when i would sit on the middle of the bed.
- 5/5
Friendly staff clean room
- 3/5
Didn’t realise I was staying in a religious hotel! Must admit though location and price was good for NY
- 4/5
Staff was great, room clean, excellent location!
- 5/5
fantastic location being close to the High Line and Hudson Yards, subway wasn’t too far away either and a useful 24 hour diner for any late night meals, room key is dropped with the reception staff when leaving which is a very useful security feature so don’t have to worry about misplacing the key when touristing. would definitely stay here again due to the value of the room rates, location and welcoming hotel staff with a great daily breakfast.
- 4/5
Basic clean accommodation. We stayed 5 nights and the hotel met our needs for our stay in NYC. Staff were very friendly and welcoming and the breakfast was lovely
- 5/5
Excellent service from the staff. The room was very clean and well-maintained, so I didn't mind that it looked a little old. Great location too, close to main subway lines. Would happily return here for future NY stays.
- 5/5
Loved it
- 1/5
No remote in room for TV and unable to get another one. Had WiFi router in the room and wires everywhere. Breakfast was good.
- 4/5
The breakfast buffet was very nice. We had not planned on returning to hotel after 11:00 pm but did stay out until midnight. It was easy to get back into the property later at night.
- 3/5
Decent budget hotel. Nice range for breakfast
- 5/5
I expected my room to be some noisy, which it was. You have to realize that it is a very very old building without much insulation so you literally hear everything including your neighbors. Even with that said, I would still choose to stay here again jusr because of the staff! They have a beautiful outside Garden to enjoy as well. Very Clean and the most incredible staff!
- 4/5
Good location and breakfast.
- 4/5
Very clean and tidy. Staff couldn’t do enough to help. Perfect location near several underground stations and Chelsea Market
- 4/5
Comfortable room, plenty of hot water to use the shower. No bath plug, didn't ask for one as we were only staying one night. Comfortable reception area and really appreciated being able to check in our luggage at 10am, stored in a locked room, whilst we explored New York and returned at 4pm to check in.
- 4/5
The property was very close to the subway which made it easy to get around the city without any issues. Room was small but suited my needs as I was travelling solo. There were restaurants & shopping nearby. So, I had everything I needed. I would be happy to stay there again.
- 3/5
This place would be much better if the staff were more friendly, just a smile would do!
- 4/5
A pleasant breakfast with a reasonable choice An excellent location for subway north and south
- 5/5
Surprised by a variety breakfast, good location, wonderful staff, needs some upgrades but great value for NY
- 5/5
Perfect for a stay in the city. Clean, comfy bed. Basic but everything i needed. Breakfast was a surprise , more on offer than i expected. The waffles were lovely.
- 3/5
Very basic, bordering on stark. Like a 1960s boarding school. Place was clean and reasonable area close to transport but please don’t expect hotel comfort.
- 5/5
You had the bread bagel option. Then you then went down the fresh fruit with yoghurt. There were always bananas and big old red juicy apples to go with the sliced watermelon and strawberries. Then you had the scrambled/boiled egg, cooked meat of the day option. And then it was the make your own waffle option, which was entertaining to watch. The room was what i expected, no thrills. It was always spotless when i returned in the evening. The front desk staff were amazing especially Gwendolyn who i have to give an 11/10 for all her help and advice during my short stay. I'd stay there again for sure.
- 5/5

- 4/5
Nothing special but honestly the price difference between this and other hotels in the area is pretty huge. I'd say if you're staying for just a few days then this is fine, if you're staying for a week or longer you may find that this is a bit too basic.
- 3/5
Breakfast was good considering it was free - tea, coffee, cereals, waffles and a couple of cooked items. Staff were efficient at clearing the tables. Very close to the subway so easy to get around. Rooms were very dated and need a coat of paint, particularly the bathrooms which need updated. Staff were all friendly and helpful and we would stay again but request ensuite next time
- 5/5
Great Location between the Theatre District and the Village. Lots of Restaurants and close to Public Transport.
- 3/5
From literally the first moment we walked through the door, the general mood of the majority.of the staff was that they're job would be so much easier without guests. Very unwelcoming greeting with minimal information provided at checkin, including not advising/confirming that there is no breakfast on a Sunday. The rooms are very dated but are clean and tidy. The internal and external noise is considerable, party due to traffic which they obviously cannot do anything about, but also because the door handles cannot be turned when leaving the room, meaning that every departure is accompanied by a loud echoey bang. Housekeeping is excellent and looked after us fantastically. The demeanour and attitude of the staff was confirmed upon our checkout when our cheerful goodbye and thanks was greeted with absolute silence and ignorance from the four people behind then desk (one of whom was the unwelcoming lady from initial check-in) Overall the Leo.serves a purpose and is in an excellent location, but is sadly let down by the majority of front facing staff and very loud and sleepless nights
- 5/5
I highlt recommend!! Breakfast was amazing. The shared shower was not bad at all! I slept all night and didnt hear anything but a slammes door before i went to sleep. Staff is friendly and they are on top of security in the building
- 5/5
There is a nice affordable deli on the block.
- 5/5
Everything you need. Well priced. Lets face it if you come to New York your not going to spend the time in your room. Bit noisy but the complimentary ear plugs worked a treat😊 10 out of 10 for the lovely Gwendoline.
- 4/5
The location is very close to many subway entrances and we found it easy to navigate considering we don't use a subway at home.
- 3/5
The staff were pleasant but for my stay both the wifi in my room and the television did not work. This was not the staff’s fault of course. The breakfast buffet was decent
- 1/5
BED BUGS
- 5/5
Everything needed is there and works and a generous breakfast with an extensive choice is included. I had no problems with noise in the heart of New York and slept well each night. The location in Chelsea, just a couple of minutes from the 23rd Street subway on the E line makes for easy transfers to and from JFK and an ideal base for exploring Manhattan and further afield. Helpful and welcoming, 24 hour, Reception with a luggage store for early arrivals or late departures and Housekeeping are unobtrusive and keep everything in order. Highly Recommended.
- 5/5
Reasonable price in good location.
- 4/5
Great staff/ Good location
- 5/5
I was impressed with friendly staff, great walkable location, nearby subway stations and free breakfast. It feels safe to walk around neighborhood even after midnight . Shower was clean even its sharing for entire floor. Happy with my stay
- 4/5
Property is very clean and quiet.
- 5/5
Nice breakfast! Wish it was served on Sunday.
- 5/5
Simple safe and cozy!
- 5/5
Amazing staff!
- 4/5
There are no showers in the rooms and the rooms are very small
- 5/5
Staff were really nice & accommodating. Room was as per photos but clean. Share bathroom was easy to navigate.
- 4/5
The staff was very nice in general and I appreciated the breakfast buffet. Austere room conditions with minimal amenities but clean. The room can get a bit cold at night. One issue was that I couldn’t log onto wifi in the room.
- 5/5
Staff were super nice and friendly. The room was clean and comfy. And it was super close to a subway station, making it easy to get around.
- 5/5
They were so accommodating and let us check our bags before and after check in and out time. The breakfast was fantastic!
- 5/5
I have already recommended this property to a few friends and clients in CA and NY. Thank you! Cesar Viana :0)
- 2/5
If you are hardly in the room then it’s decent to just spend nights but I cannot imagine spending time here on a holiday. ACs makes such loud noise. Not a pleasant stay
- 1/5
TV was not working. 5 hours after letting the front desk know, I was told it would not be fixed. Issue for me because as I said I work remotely. I would not have picked this location if I had known. I tried to resolve with the hotel to no avail. Besides that, location is fine, hotel is very raggedy
- 5/5
I was very impressed by the cleanliness of everything in the room and I loved the location. We were able to leave our bags there in the morning and pick them up at night when we were done with our day. Check in and check out was super simple And the breakfast was excellent.
- 5/5
The Leo House was an excellent choice for our long weekend in NYC. While the accommodations were modest, it truly provided everything we needed for a clean, safe and comfortable stay. It had simple, monastic touches throughout, which I personally loved. My favorite part about staying at The Leo House is the connection to 140 year-old tradition in the city. There might be more newer, modern and luxurious options available but preserving a piece of New York’s history and going back in time to be linked to a rich tradition is an important part of the NYC experience for us. I enjoyed the Catholic foundation of the house, with masses offered, a chapel, crucifixes in the room and Mother Teresa stayed there when she visited NYC. The staff were truly wonderful and the delicious complimentary breakfast each morning was such a treat (the coffee was excellent). We will book there again!
- 3/5
However, common areas are nice and staff are friendly.

Great place to spend vacation! Breakfast id great as well
- 1/5
Don’t have a showers in rooms, they didn’t return to us a money, we’ve leaved this earlier because of awful rooms and hotel
- 5/5
We had a wonderful stay. It was our first time in New York and we picked a great hotel! All the staff were very kind and location of the hotel is perfect.
- 5/5
I like the historic building, the breakfast and the beautiful dining room.
- 2/5
The rooms were decent but there were issues with wifi and bathroom doors. You should only book if you need a place to keep your luggage while you explore the city
- 5/5
Service
- 5/5
The hotel is quirky at first glance but I ended up loving it. It was a quick walk from Moynahan train station. The breakfast was delicious. I felt safe and secure even though I was traveling alone. The food and shopping options close by helped me feel confident to head out in the evening.
- 5/5
Room was comfy and clean.
- 5/5
Very friendly staff make me fell safe traveling solo.
- 3/5
And The whole place just need a major upgrade. Great location for Subway access and there’s a target about a block away
- 5/5
Fantastic area with great neighborhoods within walking distance and a subway stop not too far away.
- 5/5
Very kind and welcoming staff! Bathrooms are very modern, rooms have all the basics, several nice common areas and historical mini-exhibits.
- 4/5
While the room and bathroom are overall clean, there's a great amount of white dust on the sheets comforter and pillows, and carpet. Otherwise a very good value and convenience.
- 3/5
The Ac was terrible. The sink not convenient. It took a long time to help us change the room.
- 5/5
Stayed here a few times. Staff are always nice & helpful. The hotel is clean, and the breakfast is excellent. In a nice area of Chelsea, only a minute away from the subway station. Fabulous value for money.
- 5/5
No thrills but perfect crash pad for a busy day around NYC
- 5/5
Excellent location
- 4/5
Great budget hotel option. If you literally just need a place to hang your hat, this is a terrific option! The leaving your key before you leave is absolutely real. But honestly I actually liked that! Think about it, you don't have to worry about having it on you and potentially losing it. Only thing I really didn't like was the shower was not in the same room, it was a shared shower. And The knobs were difficult to figure out. Otherwise, great option if you need to stay in NYC for cheap
- 4/5
AC window unit was noisy
- 4/5
It was fine, very basic. Only surprise was the extra $30 at check in, I wish it had been listed when I purchased online. Otherwise fantastic location, my room was very quiet and staff was friendly.
- 4/5
Propreté rien à redire, malgrès une batiment veillissant
- 5/5
Everything was great, it has good security when you arrive and leave, the room has everything you need, hot water, air conditioning, everything works super well, each room has its own internet and cable, it is very well located, there is a subway 2 minutes away and I would walk to everything in 15-20 minutes, it also has restaurants nearby and a target on the corner
- 4/5
We were on a shared bathroom but it was fine, feels very homely. Breakfast was great but unfortunately, not on a Sunday.
- 5/5
Really excellent place to stay. Fantastic value for money, excellent location, quiet rooms, appreciated the hot and cold water for drinks. Very good, plentiful breakfast and lovely outside area.
- 2/5
This was an incredibly uncomfortable stay. The worst part was the security. Although it was not mentioned anywhere in the policies they sent ahead of time or on any visible sign in the lobby, you are not allowed to leave the hotel with your room key. This was not explained to me when I checked in. When I returned to the hotel, I was berated and gaslit by the staff, who told me it was their most important rule and that I wasn’t paying attention when they explained it (they never did). The next day, when I asked for my key, an unfamiliar staff member handed me my key without confirming my identity. I assume he would’ve handed it to anyone who asked for that room. Felt very unsafe for the remainder of the trip. The AC unit made a loud clicking noise all night from water dripping onto it from the unit above. Also, the lobby is filled with catholic paraphernalia (pictures of popes and religious leaders, free rosaries, etc) which is fine but odd that it wasn’t mentioned or made clear in the listing or photos. I did not feel safe, comfortable, or welcome. Will not return, would not recommend to anyone.
- 5/5
Good stay
- 5/5
A special place.
- 5/5
Good service and friendly staff!!!
- 5/5
The property is amazing, the breakfast was a lovely inclusion, with also a microwave in the common area, ice machine and very affordable laundry. With the wonderful staff and location this is a wonderful stay.
- 4/5
The staff was courteous. The room was surprisingly quiet. It was an old building, the shower was not in good shape, 4th floor had no WiFi but the AC was most quiet I have ever experienced at a lodging.
- 2/5
Breakfast was good with a good choice of hot & cold food.
- 5/5
Amazing breakfast. This place is a bit old but clean, well maintained and it was a pleasure to have fresh fruit, yogurt and granola for breakfast.
- 4/5
Their breakfast service was wonderful. It was close to train station and everything near the hotel.Very convenient!
- 5/5
Location it’s a go to
- 4/5
A lot of amenities for a low frill property.
- 5/5
Great breakfast and location
- 4/5
The building is excellently placed and full of character. Worn but clean with the air of an old fashioned boarding house. There is an excellent breakfast buffet and a lovely little garden and the handsome communal sitting rooms are a bonus as our bedrooms were very small. The shared bathroom was better than expected as it was usually free when needed and, although disconcertingly shabby at first glance, was always spotless. The staff were friendly and helpful, with the exception of one consistently hostile receptionist who was the only negative aspect of the week.
- 5/5
I always feel safe and comfortable at Leo House.
- 2/5
Bathroom was not serviced upon check-in & entry. Dirty towels on the floor. Toilet unflushed. Trash strewn about / used soaps / half empty water bottle under bed / no clean towels in bathroom. Had to inform and request new towels @ front desk despite being 7-8 hours late to my check in (trip was delayed, only stayed for one night, mainly for sleep). The room itself (311) is very small, but has a decent twin size bed (for one). Hotel won't let you leave with your room key (fyi, wasn't aware of that ahead of time) but front desk is avail 24/7. TV did not work, btw, and neither did the Wifi (not sure they even offer Wifi). Phone Signal is pretty poor while inside. Complimentary breakfast is OK, not worth getting up for IMO. Wished I had skipped it altogether, slept in, or just stayed somewhere else tbh. While the staff was nice to me, and apologetic re: towels, unserviced bathroom, et.al., I would not stay here again.
- 4/5
Secure and quiet hotel. Friendly and welcoming staff. Excellent breakfast.
- 2/5
This hotel is dirty and just awful. It’s like a backpackers hostel not a hotel. The room was so dirty, we booked 3 nights and stayed 1 as it was so bad I felt so unclean. The staff are so unfriendly, not approachable. With exception of the manager Natalie who helped us get a refund so we could move to another hotel. Don’t mind an old hotel, old furniture etc but unclean is not ok.
- 5/5
subway stop less than 20 feet from your door and a buffer breakfast worth getting up for
- 2/5
On a positive note i was pleased to have a safe in my room. Location in Manhattan was good. Value for money you get what you pay for . My mistake
- 4/5
Nice place to stay with easy access to the theatre district and subway stations. Would stay again!
- 5/5
Loved the service, staff were very friendly and attentive. Arrived early before check in and they were very helpful in storing our bags before and after we checked out. The location is very convenient and the amenities were exactly what we were looking for. If you’re a germa phob and need your own shower make sure you have a private bathroom. The room we had was a shared bath, but we didn’t mind.
- 4/5
Nice little hotel on the 23rd street here in NYC. The rooms are a bit small but for one night that's ok. Showers are in separate rooms on floor which can make it tough to shower if both happens to be taken. Other than that, I really liked my stay.
- 5/5
A class service by the team from start to finish ( especially Thommy, who made us feel welcome from the beginning, a friendly, professional kind & helpful person you would go a long way to find, the Leo house is situated in a brilliant location, surrounding areas are clean and easy to walk & Catch the subway, breakfast served was outstanding, only mention for feedback here is the room was hot with no A/C or fan, bed was comfy bathroom and space of a good standard, I have no hesitation in recommending the LEO to stay, I myself will be returning to NYC in the future and when I do the LEO will be my choice of hotel.
- 5/5
A quiet oasis in the middle of one of the largest cities in America. Located very close to public transportation and offered a simple yet restful place of respite from my work day and evening activities. The staff were extremely attentive and service minded. Breakfast was a big bonus to my stay. The one issue I had with an outlet malfunction was rectified immediately. I would definitely stay again.
- 5/5
A great staff, a great location. Perfect for solo or budget travelers. I will come back again
- 4/5
Staff at the reception were very pleasant. Breakfast was delicious. Area has easy access to many tourist sites.
- 3/5
Good location
- 4/5
Great location, great price, nice facilities. I booked a shared shower and do wish I booked a private bathroom. Free breakfast and very nice staff. I would stay again.
- 1/5
I have made my dissatisfaction to the front desk and the staff
- 4/5
For the price i would recommend Leo House. While an older building, it was clean and the location was great. Close to the Subway and High Line. Also not that far to walk to places such as the MSG and Times Square. The only downside was at the time of my stay there was no WiFi on my floor.
- 2/5
No wifi in your room, also if you stayed on the 4th floor, no working T.V, in any room,
- 5/5
The room is very clean. I love the view from my 6th floor room.
- 5/5
The staff was excellent specially the employee that was there to greet us on our arrival. She made it a home away from home. The complimentary breakfast was a well balanced meal.
- 5/5
Very simple but adequate accommodations (small rooms), but really good location and great price in an otherwise expensive city to stay in.
- 5/5
Really enjoyed it. Great location. Great breakfast. Lots of public lounge areas.
- 5/5
The room was too warm. It was warm spring weather and the central heat made our room too warm. Otherwise the Leo House was great, and we will stay there again when we come to Manhattan.
- 5/5
Quirky hotel with very good choice for breakfast, great location
- 5/5
Good
- 4/5
Breakfast was well done. Ww were misled about parking. The bed for two was one double bed in a small room. Had to go into & down the hall to hunt for a community shower.
- 4/5
The room was a bit spartan, the bed and bathroom were clean. Communal shower in the hallway close to our room. Breakfast was delightful. Let’s face it, if you’re in the city, you’re not gonna be spending a whole lot of time in the room. I would stay here again.
- 5/5
Fabulous
- 4/5
I love this little safe haven in Chelsea. Close to everything but still feels safe and minimal commotion located in a residential area. Great breakfast selection and super inviting. Rooms are as per NYC normal standard (meaning compact) but fulfill your needs. Unfortunately for me I found the bed super uncomfortable, whereas my travel partner did not have a problem with theirs. I would want my 20 year old daughter living here everytime she goes to NYC without me (for my sense of her safety).
- 5/5
Beautiful property for a reasonable price. Breakfast could have been better, bagels, bread etc were quite stale
- 3/5
Overall the hotel was not a bad hotel, it was clean, the breakfast was good, and for the most part the staff were polite, but just seemingly untrained for this sort of thing. If you are a pair traveling with a disabled dependent I would not stay here however, and we will not be again, unfortunately.
- 3/5
This property is something out of a Dickens novel or NYC in the early 1900's. Great price tghough. Very convenient location.
