This was unfortunate really. No hand or body soap in the room, I had to ask for it. There was a free water bottle that I wasn't offered until I asked where the filtered water was located. The carpet outside the room was dirty. The rug in the room was tattered and bunched under the bed. The mattress so too soft. For a hotel of this price, I was very unimpressed and I travel often. Unfortunate.

Great coffee in the lobby. Loved the outdoor space in front to have coffee or drinks. We used the free bikes to ride on nearby Hudson River park bike path which was fun! Lots of character in design in lobby and rooms

The property and rooms were gorgeous! Rooms were so cozy. Couldn’t say enough about how incredible the staff was. They would run over to help you carry things. The courtyard in the back was such a nice plus! Only bummer was they had a large patch of grass but you weren’t allowed to go into it. Disappointing when you have a dog, but overall didn’t take away from our experience!

This is a unique and historic property. So everything is old and that should be expected. It is in wonderful condition and wonderfully done. You cannot beat this location! It is like a mini park like oasis in the center of Chelsea. The windows ooen! The staff are extremely friendly and accommodating. I travel to New York frequently and I booked this hotel whenever it’s available.

Very cute, comfortable and conveniently located. Staff was friendly. The rooms have early 20th century decor, and old books! Patio is a very nice place to sit, have a drink. I would definitely recommend and stay here again. Very dog friendly too.

The hotel is in a great location and has beautiful courtyards in the front and back with tables. You can get coffee or cocktails, an oasis from all the hubbub. Room 5 was wonderfully quiet. You need to like quirky to stay here. It’s a historic building and if it’s not undergoing renovation, it needs to. The rooms are a bit austere, a cross bw a prewar monastery and a Wes Anderson set. The thermostat in our room didn’t work and the window unit ac kept us cool, but then you could not pull the curtains without covering it. The showerhead is very awkwardly low and with no hvac system, it doubles as a steam room if you don’t leave the bathroom door open. The inside staff are incredibly friendly and nice, but we wondered if the outside bar was run by a third party bc their attitude was completely different. Nevertheless, it is dog friendly, has a great coffee bar and feels like a neighborhood favorite spot.

We had a wonderful stay at the charming High Line Hotel in Chelsea. The whole vibe is a cozy boutique style experience. Our room was uniquely decorated, full of character, and utterly charming. The room was quiet even though we were just across from the elevator. We also loved the coffee bar. While there was no complimentary coffee, we were happy to trade for a delicious custom cup. The staff were friendly and helpful throughout our visit. We loved everything about our time there and would happily stay again on our next trip.

The strength of the hotel is it's New York "neighborhood" vibe. Great Chelsea location. It's an old hotel so amenities are few. We stayed in a Deluxe King and room was very large by NY standards. Great bed. Everyone was very friendly. We would like to return sometime soon.

For the price, I expected a much higher quality - but would have been able to rationalize even a moderately better quality. Room was in very shabby condition that went well past "character"; overly worn rug, badly cracked (& unsightly patched) bathroom fixtures, window air conditioner with dirty filter warning, fridge jammed under desk so you couldn't sit or push chair in, hanging clothing bar wedged behind a curtain. I was willing to overlook a fair amount given the great location and historical building, but I wouldn't stay here again. The front desk clerk did offer me an alternate room that looked beautiful but sat adjacent to the lobby and coffee bar which was going to be very noisy. On the plus side, great coffee, charming patio, comfortable mattress; but I'd suggest going for a coffee or cocktail, not a stay. Sadly, this place sounded like a gem (& charged accordingly) but gives more "boarding house" vibes than high-end Chelsea stay.

In reality an expensive hotel with poor facilities - no breakfast offering, no gym. Bar shuts early. Was difficult to get a glass or ice. Room had inadequate storage and was very dark. On the plus side room was large and location was excellent. If u just want a place to sleep its fine but if you need anything else I would go elsewhere

Unfortunately, the positives ended there for us. There was no water provided in the room, housekeeping never came during our stay even when the sign was hanged. We had to ask the lobby and she was not pleased because it was at the end of her shift. Also important to know: there is no breakfast offered in the morning. If you want coffee from the café downstairs, expect to wait 30–45 minutes because it’s packed with locals every morning. The hotel also seemed extremely restrictive with towels, which felt odd for the price point. Another concern was that there did not appear to be a mattress protector on the bed, which raised hygiene concerns for us. To make matters worse, we found bugs in the room during our stay, which was extremely disappointing and unacceptable. The most concerning part was when we had to leave early for our flight around 5:45a.m. The security/lobby person was asleep on the couch wearing headphones. From a safety perspective, that is completely unacceptable. Entry doors should be properly secured, with guests accessing the building using room keys and visitors ringing for entry if needed.

Since this is a boutique hotel, they don’t really have any amenities. I found the lobby.coffee area always very crowded with nowhere to sit and relax. The a/c was broke in my room so they brought in a portable window unit which worked, but not ideal.

The bed and bathroom linens were clean and bed made up every day. The draperies and curtains were not clean , did not hang properly in the window. Very distracting and disappointing. The floors were not swept clean. Other than those awful old and soiled curtains and flopping draperies, I loved the hotel.

Charming property with well-maintained architectural features situated in a convenient location. Had a top floor room facing 10th Ave and the windows did a good job of muting some of the street traffic noise. We found ourselves within walking distance to solid food options and a quick car ride to downtown or brooklyn. Very welcoming staff. Only gripe is that the lobby coffee bar ought to expand its hours of operation. Will definitely return.

    1. The cooling system in my room did not seem to be working, I would lower the thermostat but only heat would come out, no a/c. It was often about 10 degrees hotter in my room than where I would set the thermostat. 2. The cleanliness and maintenance of the building could be better - I dig the historic nature of the property but the peeling walls and whatnot can make the vibe veer from vintage to funky.

As recommended on several reviews, we booked a suite to have more room and a larger bathroom. We were given Suite 5, and were kind of shocked that it didn't look anything like the photos of the suite in the hotel photos. The bathroom had a tiny pedestal sink, one dim light and no room to unpack anything. The room had awkward angles due to dormers, and the furnishings were really shabby. We asked for a different room but were told that all the suites were exactly the same. Then wonderful Rebecca at check-in looked at the photos I showed her and immediately moved us to Suite 3. This had a nice large bathroom, better light, was larger, and had a cute sitting area. The furnishings are definitely shabby (a bit past "vintage character") and could stand to be upgraded, but there's great history to the hotel, and it's in a quiet neighborhood with wisteria lined streets. We did appreciate the character, and the closeness to attractions like Little Island, the Highline, Chelsea Piers and market, Hudson Yards, etc. Staff was very friendly, the coffee shop was good, and the gym passes to the Chelsea Pier gym (fabulous!) were a bonus. We enjoyed our stay and felt like New Yorkers!

Great staff, location, loved the lobby bar/coffee shop, and appreciated that it's pet friendly. Cleanliness - we noticed stained pillow cases night 1 so asked that it be taken care of while we were out the following day. The next night, we found a plastic toy spider in the bed leading me to believe our linens were not changed upon request, nor before we checked in. Unfortunate as our stay was otherwise pleasant.

The building is obviously older so there are creaks and moans and things can be clearly heard through the halls. I would recommend bringing a white noise machine if you’re a light sleeper. Also a huge peeve is when a 5 star hotel only provides ONE PLY TOILET PAPER in the rooms. It seems silly but when every detail is perfect and the TP overlooked is annoying to me, especially charging the prices that they do. Otherwise everything was immaculate.

Coffee shop is great never experienced the bar as we always got home too late and it was already closed. Overall great location. Wish they had some type of food option on location in the evening as we had to always order DoorDash or Uber eats if the kids were hungry.

For such an upscale hotel, it's kind of weird that there is no front desk or concierge. Other than that, well designed, comfortable, very convenient to Chelsea.

A bit more attention to room deferred maintenance would be good - like going room to room to proactively assess. A painting hung on the wall kept going crooked and someone could probably walk through the rooms with a toolbelt to show some TLC and fix that sort of thing. . No coffee in room for a $500+ a night hotel is a definite miss.

Cons- no outside light by stairs coming into hotel ( we arrived at night and the hotel looked “ spooky” in the dark, as well as the fact we could have gone headfirst down the steps), hotel carpets heading to elevator were filthy, the front desk is a person standing beside their laptop, the lobby is a coffee shop so it was usually quite crowded.

I never leave bad reviews but I strongly recommend against staying here. The air conditioning in the hotel was broken for the entirety of my stay. While I can excuse that as not entirely the hotel's fault, it was the horrible lack of customer service in response to that issue that really made this stay so poor. The management neglected to inform me or anyone else checking in that the AC was broken, no fan or discount or even a free coffee or any solution at all was offered, nor would they share any information about how long it had been broken or when it would be fixed. The people at the front desk couldn't answer anything, but finding a manager was always impossible and the managers on duty that I did speak with were rude and not helpful. Additionally, the facilities overall were shabby and not comfortable. For example, my bath would fill up with grey water while I was taking a shower and management did nothing to address this during my stay. The cost is exorbitant for how crappy this hotel is. It is absolutely not a 4 star hotel, neither in terms of facilities, amenities, nor service.

Terrible service. Ridiculously overpriced. They said they would bring bags up to our room but did not. We had to do that ourselves. Bathroom wall paint was peeling. Bath tub drain was not working. Poor front desk service. The lobby bathroom was gross and not serviced. The room rate was as much as the Four Seasons or Plaza but the service was complete trash. Avoid this hotel at all costs. It is a total racket. NEVER COMING BACK.

While I understand that the hotel is an older property, I feel in general that the whole place (room included) needed some TLC. The room's bathroom tiles, especially, needed a good scrub. The threadbare carpet in the middle of the room seemed to also be producing a rather pungent mildew smell. The staff were friendly and the area was great, but I would not return.

I had a wonderful stay at the High Line Hotel. The location is tucked just off the High Line, which made it feel peaceful and quiet while still being close to everything. The building itself has an older charm that adds to the character of the experience. The bed was excellent, one of the most comfortable I’ve slept in at a hotel, which made for a great night’s rest. Overall, it’s a unique and relaxing place to stay in the city, perfect if you want comfort and a quieter atmosphere without being far from the action.

We stayed in a double queen room. It’s by far the largest room we’ve ever stayed at in New York. There were 2 closets! The bathroom was large. The water pressure was pretty good. The bed was very comfortable. The room was quiet from other guests. The first night we heard noise from outside traffic but on the second night we did not. Overall it’s more of the quieter hotels we’ve stayed at in the city. We didn’t receive turn down service as mentioned on the website and I wasn’t able to get any help from the hotel on birthday decor or a special treat for my daughter. Loved having the coffee shop downstairs. Everything we had was great. Would have loved to have had a cocktail at the outside bar but it closed before we got home each night. We didn’t use the bikes but they looked brand new. The hotel staff made excellent recommendations - we enjoyed Brooklyn Bagel & Coffee Company as well as Gotham Pizza. Location was great for us. We walked to Broadway, the Flat Iron District, the NYC Public Library, Times Square, The Village and took a subway down to the Financial District. The High Line entrance is right across the street from the hotel and Chelsea Market around the corner.

The best feature of this hotel is its location especially for The High Line, Hudson Yards, Chelsea Market and The Whitney Museum. Our room # 27 1/2, was quite small despite the hotel advertising that its rooms are oversized. Maybe we got this room because we booked through Expedia at a slightly discounted rate. The room was clean and comfortable and the staff and service excellent. There is a beautiful courtyard in front but once the Fairweather Bar opens, hotel guests are not allowed to sit there and drink coffee even if purchased from the hotel cafe. There’s a rear courtyard but it’s not well shaded. Also, the hotel advertised a free breakfast and Ed water bottle for each room but had none at the time of our stay. Overall, not a great value for the price.

The location is definitely the only thing standing out and the idea of the Hotel—very convenient for getting around New York, and surprisingly quiet for Manhattan, which was appreciated. However, the condition of the hotel leaves a lot to be desired. The building is very old, and it shows. There’s a persistent musty, old smell, and we noticed signs of mold. The AC is very loud, and I am not a light sleeper and I had a hard time. Between that and the smell. The walls were visibly uneven, with several areas showing patch jobs that looked like quick fixes for deeper structural issues. Cleanliness was below average, and there’s no concierge or security, which made the stay feel more like a dated apartment rental than a proper hotel for the money. If you're only after a quiet spot in a good location and don't mind rough conditions, this might work—but it’s far from comfortable or well-maintained.

Charming hotel in a perfect location. Very friendly helpful staff, good WiFi, I was able to work remotely. Linens and amenities are excellent. Supperb café on the premises. Hotel being dog friendly, is a huge plus for me. Would be great to have a washlet seat in the bathroom is the only suggestion. Highly recommend, definitely will stay again.

I had high expectations for the High Line Hotel given its reputation and prime Chelsea location, but unfortunately, my recent stay fell far short of what I anticipated. The room felt dated and worn, but not in a good way, and not matching the premium price point. There was a musty smelly throughout. The biggest issue was the poor value. The rates are high considering the lack of amenities, lobby area, and service. The bathroom was gross. Definitely fell short of a four star hotel - closer to two stars.

Pros: The “front desk” staff (who stood at a built-in book shelf in the lobby) were friendly, the bicycles we used functioned appropriately, the toilets flushed well, the complementary water bottles you had to specifically ask for worked as expected. There were sharpened pencils in the room. The location was deece. Cons: basically everything except the bro at the front built-in book shelf with the iPad. The gym situation - you gotta ask for the gym post card, then get over to the Chelsea Piers Fitness place (if you don’t get the giant post card with a QR code the fitness center will give you a hard time). You could just sign up for a free first month at Equinox and it would be nicer and closer. Overall not worth the $$$$.

For us, traveling with the dog it was excellent. You feel like you're on the set of a Wes Anderson film. It is very quaint. Our room was super small, but the mattress was very good. I would like more in room amenities like a coffee maker or better glassware Instead of lots of sharp pencils and an envelope sealer. It was not a very practical room. I cannot remember the last time I stayed in a hotel with a window unit air conditioner, which was very noisy to sleep with but needed. The property itself is very nice especially the downstairs coffee bar in the outside areas, but there is no food. We ended up going to the Chelsea market and getting nibbles and taking them back and just having them at the outside table area with some drinks. It is the most dog friendly hotel you can imagine and for that it made it worthwhile for us.

Great location and cool patio vibe. I booked two rooms at The High Line Hotel (max is 2 people per room and we’re a family of 4) Our experience was seriously impacted by a cockroach issue and a complete lack of accountability. On the morning of our second day, my husband discovered cockroaches (or likely water bugs, given their gigantic size—I’m an NYC native so I know my bugs) in his room. Not wanting to disrupt our tight schedule—and knowing I’d want to leave the hotel immediately—he chose not to tell me right away and went down to speak with the front desk himself. He was told only management could address it, but no one from management was available. On the third day, as we were checking out, he finally told me what had happened. We raised the issue again together and were again told that no manager was in the building, but that someone from management would follow up with us after our stay. No one did. I followed up by phone after we returned home and instead of receiving a call back, I got an email stating that because we had “declined to speak with management” (which is simply untrue—we were never given the opportunity), they couldn’t offer us anything. For the price and positioning of this hotel, this was a disappointing experience—both in terms of the bug issue and the lack of action.

The only other thing I would say is that because it’s an older (and beautiful! ) property, and the glass must be a little thin, we could hear almost every outside noise. We were on the second floor, so pretty close to the sidewalk, but people would sneeze and we could hear it. I think I’d stay there again, but I would make sure it was fall or spring so that we wouldn’t have to worry about the temperature situation.

Great location. Friendly staff. Very quiet hotel for sleeping. I was in the city for a weekend seminar and the hotel was walking distance. However I had no hot water for my shower my first morning and I had to wash my hair in the sink which weirdly did have hot water. I was told by a nice gentleman that he’d have an engineer look at it but it was still cold when I checked out. I did see a previous review with the same issue so it must be a building issue.

Meh. Pretty expensive for the state of the rooms. The bed was nice but the ceiling in the bathroom was peeling and water stained. No food on premise. Also, I could hear the coffee shop on the first floor at 7am in the morning. Not really worth $300/night.

Unfortunately, our stay was marred by significant noise issues. Our lower floor room was directly impacted by lobby and cafe activity starting around 5 am, making sleep impossible. The room itself felt unclean and eerie, with visible blood splatter on the bathroom wall. A persistent musty odor added to the discomfort. While the bed was comfortable and the staff were friendly, the poor sound insulation and cleanliness issues overshadowed any positives. The dim lighting and haphazard renovations further detracted from the experience. We resorted to melatonin to get any sleep on our final night.

I was a little disappointed in my stay at the High Line and expected a better level of Customer service and quality for the price. I had a lot of trouble with the hot water in the shower, and when someone finally did come to repair, they then left the ceiling panel hanging open in the bathroom. Also the cleaning service only cleaned once during the 3 day stay.

great initial vibe. Room was cold, HVAC heating wasn't working. Luckily had a small heating unit on hand ( i wonder why!!! ) Had it on all night, but it was noisy, so not a good rest. No hot water in the shower in the morning, even though it was warm at the sink. Complained verbally to the front desk: he just said sorry, and asked whether they could go and check. Way too little, way too late.Totally not an adequate reply for a $ 400 night in mid Jan NYC. Coffee btw was horrible, probably the milk was spoiled, but the bar guy didn't care that much even to throw it. Don;t know it can get much worse.....

The staff at the Highline Hotel was very friendly and helpful! We had to leave early and they were very accomodating in letting us out of the last night of our stay. The hotel is very old and there is nothing that they can do about that. It is charming, but the fact that it is so old leads to some problems during the stay. The floors creak so loudly that it sounds like people in the hallway walking by are in your room. The rug was old and creased and the furniture was uncomfortable. If you decide to stay here, just know these things. They can be overlooked and if you are looking for something "different" than a chain hotel, then this is the place for you!

We stayed here as part of a family group, so I got to see three other rooms in addition to my own. All were well appointed, very well decorated, and very comfortable. Spacious by New York standards, with a robe and cozy slippers, and the most incredibly comfortable bed I think I've ever slept in. Grabbing a coffee and hanging out in the lobby is a must, because you'll get to see a lot of adorable dogs walk through. Don't forget to take advantage of the day pass at the Chelsea Pier, because that is an absolutely phenomenal gym! Good breakfast options nearby, but you'll need to walk a few blocks over for dinner.

This hotel was in no way worth the money. The area was lovely with lots of dining options. Very walkable and safe. The hotel room was OK but it lacked amenities that should have been available for the cost such as smart TV that allows connection to streaming services and in-room coffee facilities. The housekeeping was mediocre with a bathroom towel put on the floor behind the toilet and no bathmat (just a hand towel for a bathmat). The room is old and so are the furnishings; while some were vintage others were just worn out. The internet was down for a whole day during our 3-day stay with no information as to when it would be available.
