- Convenient location near JFK airport
- Friendly and helpful staff
- Noise from airplanes and other guests
- Outdated facilities and lack of amenities
- 4/5
The room was clean and comfortable only problem I had there was no refrigerator
- 4/5
That's all. No desk and chair for work. No coffee maker forhot drinking water. No closet to hang my coat andshirts..No shuttle. Taxi or Uber to or from JFKcost $25-30. A grocery store nearby. A very good Asian restaurant next door. Italian restaurants walking distance.

Value for money
- 4/5
The staff were very helpful.
- 5/5
Clean and peaceful and it's near a lot of restaurants great place to stay.
- 5/5
ultimately, the stay was very accomodating in regards to expense, convenience and staff the amenities are intact and warrant additional stays.
- 3/5
Smoke smell
- 4/5
1. not a fan of the smoking in the rooms. 2. I think a better locking system should be updated ( keys in 21st century) lol.
- 4/5
Perfect for what I needed: very basic, fair price, convenient parking, and real close to JFK. Joe at the front desk was helpful with a great attitude.Support stores next door.
- 5/5
This place is old school. My room was very clean. Staff was very friendly. Had a nice room overlooking the back canal. Plenty of food choices close. Would I stay there again ?? Definitely !!

STAY AWAY FROM THIS HOTEL
- 4/5
Very quite area
- 5/5
I enjoyed the experience
- 4/5
People talking kind of loud in the hallway at 2 am, not really the motels fault. Good inch of light under the (hollow?) door. Heater dirty like dryer lint (most hotels have this problem). Everyone I interacted with at the front desk was very friendly and helpful. The view of the water and the breeze from the water is really great! Make sure you get a room facing the water not the street. A bit expensive for what you get but right now what isn’t expensive for what you get? Bit of a mixed bag. Good enough if you are easy going and flexible, not good enough if you are picky/ particular.
- 5/5
I enjoyed my restful nights sleep. Will definitely stay here again.🙂
- 5/5
Comfortable , very clean...and easy check in will definitely stay here again
- 5/5
This place has parking and their employees are very helpful and nice.
- 5/5
Just what I needed....anice clean place to sleep....
- 5/5
Was perfect! Would definitely stay there again if needed.
- 4/5
Nothing fancy. Decent for the price. Friendly staff, clean room, good location. I was pleased.
- 4/5
Very friendly and helpful staff. They got us checked in quickly and arranged wake up and shuttle fast and efficiently.
- 1/5
After making the payment online, we get to the hotel and they told us that there’s no room for us, also that 3 people can be in the same room 😩 we asked the attendant what’s is the meaning of two bed in one room because that is what we booked for, so I and my family can’t be in a room? We end up booking another hotel. The management is very poor. My question is , how do I get my refund because we didn’t sleep in that hotel? Thanks
- 3/5
The front desk staff was wonderful, friendly and efficient. The property itself was scary, you could hear every sound of people knocking on the doors of other rooms, the keys turning in the locks, the door to the room was flimsy with a tiny lock, you didn’t feel safe; and even though it was a non smoking room, all you smelled was smoke from the other rooms. It was like the Bates motel
- 5/5
It is a nice place. Everything but the weed smoking in the other room. If the weed stops I would not mind always going back.
- 3/5
No facilities, No cleanliness, odour coming in room.
- 4/5
Friendly staff close to airport great for a short term stay
- 2/5
Room was "no smoking" yet it stunk so badly i had to leave the windows wide open on a first floor room. The "smoke detector" was just the mounting bracket on the wall, no smoke detector! Bugs in the toilet, hairs in the bed, bubblegum jammed into the broken ceiling tiles over shower. Nasty, nasty place.
- 3/5
Very Small bathroom, no towel racks or any place to put things. Door lock was loose.
- 3/5
It was a comfortable bed .. room had the basic necessities. Parking was accessible..staff was friendly.
- 3/5
It was a good place it should be better for the price
- 2/5
The only good thing about this motel is that it is near a really good Italian sandwich place across the street and it is also close to a good Spanish restaurant 3 blocks away. Besides that, I will not stay at this motel again.
- 2/5
Nice staff. Nice location!
- 3/5
Middle of the nite some man started pounding on our door....then proceeded to go down the hall and pound on everyone else’s ??? Walls are thin, bring a good set of ear plugs.
- 3/5
Didn't have a microwave we need to warm up some food and no microwaves in room or on premises
- 1/5
If you are paying by the hour stay. If your looking for sleep dont stay. Absolute dive used for prostitution. Had the cheek to ask me for ID while hookers and deals were going on all night. DO NOT bring children. Best and only good thing about the whole experience, the airport shuttle. Dangerous place for a tourist. Dont waste your money you will regret it. 1* would have been better off sleeping at the airport. Room the most basic, 2 cheap bars of soap and two at what could best be described as hand towels supplied.
- 3/5
Bath tub should have non-slip mat.
- 3/5
Not as many amenities as some, but overall clean and serviceable. Staff were very friendly and accommodating.
- 2/5
Disappointing that they don’t even have a coffee machine in the hotel. Had to walk 3 blocks to get a cup. Paint pealing on the repainted bath tub. 👎
- 3/5
Nice last minute find for overnight stay near JFK.
- 4/5
Nice hotel close to JFK, and the hotel shuttle was smooth
- 4/5
The hotel staff was very friendly and accommodating! The neighborhood was clean and safe. The room AC worked great. They provided a paid for Taxi to the airport when their shuttle driver went home sick. Very basic room that could use some fresh paint. My room smelled sour and felt damp, but that's likely from the humidity in the area. If I ever have an overnight connection at JFK, I would stay here again.
- 2/5
To much noise coming from the hallways all night long
- 2/5
Dingy. No seating or table/desk. Bathroom in bad shape. Very noisy, no sound insulation.
- 4/5
nice assortment of restaurants and ice cream near by. good value for money.
- 2/5
Hotel room relatively clean; bed comfortable; room was next to exit door where guests were smoking cigarettes - seeped into my room and made my stay uncomfortable.
- 1/5
The hotel was listed on Expedia as having free parking and free shuttle service to jfk. When we landed coming back from our trip, they refused to pick us up saying we were no longer guests, even thought we stayed there the night before our flight and left our car there the whole week. When we checked in there was no mention that our car couldn’t be left there while we were away. The driver that dropped us off at the airport said just call when you land and we’ll come get you.... when we called they said they couldn’t pick us up they didn’t even have a driver on staff!!! How do you advertise for free parking and shuttle and not come get us??? I want a refund!
- 1/5
This "motel" offers rooms for a few hours at discounted rates, so you can imagine the clientele. This explains why the maids are out in the hallways at 3am yapping, slamming doors and dragging their carts around. And we specifically asked for a quiet room. Reaction from the front desk at that time: "I don't hear anything." Reaction from the front desk in the morning: "I am so sorry." They have heard the same complaints many times before. So don't expect to get any sleep. Of course most people don't go there to get sleep, which explains why there are no tubes of shampoo. Nor do they have any luggage, which explains why there are no closets. The room was in a general state of disrepair with cockroaches crawling out of the bathroom ceiling.
- 5/5
Outstanding location. Wonderful staff. No frills, but clean.
- 3/5
The hotel staff was great. The shuttle was quick and picked us up right at our terminal. The furnishings are dated, but the place is clean. There is a nice pizza shop up the street. This is a nice place to stay if you have an overnight layover at JFK! I will stay here again!
- 1/5
The beds are just the worst of the worst
- 1/5
It’s very bad I will never again it
- 1/5
There are no closets, bathroom is like a cement cell no counter just toilet. Bed was broken and noise from doors opening and closing went on all night. I would take this motel off your listing.
- 1/5
Room was dirty on arrival.
- 3/5
Older hotel with no amenities ( clock, lBedside lamp, etc). Tiny, noisy room However, friendly staff and clean. Not terrible for a one night stay if you need to catch an early flight. Nice Mercedes shuttle van to the airport.
- 3/5
Not enough blankets, the heater did not produce much heat. No table or chair to sit in.
- 5/5
I would rate it 10 star. Their service is the best. They accommodated me for early check in without any additional charge. Staff was very polite and helpful. Lot of restaurants in that strip. Just the best. Room was very hygienic and clean.
- 4/5
The hotel was obliging about picking us up at the airport and returning us the next day, for free, and the drivers were friendly and helpful. The desk staff person was the same. The bed was comfortable, and the view was good.
- 2/5
I got a call on the morning of check in to tell me that I only had power from 6pm-6am. Too late for me to cancel and try to find another hotel. Therefore no TV, Air Condition, Wi-Fi or hot water. Specially when I traveling with a sick 81 year old female who happens to be my sister. Needless to say i’m Very dissapointed. If there are only 50% of services it should be 50% of the price.
- 3/5
This is a dated motel style place close to JFK with a very polite and friendly staff. Great shuttle to the airport. The place is a mess
- 3/5
It was a nice place to get some rest. Upon arrival room was ready and clean it smelled bit funky but it was because it had been closed too long.
- 1/5
Dirty, unsafe, prostitites, smell of pot, No elevator, hairdryer, closet, safe, proper locks. Pillows smelled of sweat, free adult movies on TV. Without further comment the worst place I have ever stayed in my life feeling dirty unsafe and unhappy.
- 4/5
Great value. Twenty minutes from JFK airport in an Uber. Great views of Jamaica Bay just outside.
- 1/5
There were no hand towels or washcloths. No bath mat. No shampoo or conditioner. The clear plastic ceiling tiles over the bathtub had stains and dirt abd bugs. There was an ppen channel in the ceiling between the ceiling tiles that had dust and cobwebs. Some unidentifiable mass of something had not been cleaned off the tub rim. I was afraid to actually turn down the sheets and get in bed. It was cheap relatively speaking. Thats the only positive l can say.
- 3/5
close proximity, friendly staff, no frills, comfortable bedding. clean. needs updating but wasn't there for interior. i would definitely go back
- 2/5
Expected a handicap accessible room as previously coordinated with Vincent, a Surfside 3 representative. Upon arrival, no such rooms were available and my mother was unable to access bathroom in her wheelchair. I had to relocate her to another motel. Terrible deal!
- 2/5
Its a loud place in a not so great neighborhood. It was clean and fairly well priced, but it's probably best to spend the extra money to stay at one of the big name hotels closer to the airport. Other people in the hotel were super loud and planes fly over head, although the latter was less of an issue. The front desk was behind a billet proof window, which pretty much sums up the area. Free parking was easy to get though
- 1/5
The Negatives: Dingy and worn out rooms (I saw three before settling on the one least scary); poorly heated rooms (air con was fine); based on the condoms sold along side the chips and soda in the lobby vending machine and the other 'guests' I encountered, this motel is probably best suited for hourly rentals. The fact that there are no closets is a big clue that this is not a place intended to spend much time in. Honestly, I have no idea how this place could charge as much as it did and receive more than 1 star.
- 3/5
Very noisy, and some scary loud pot smoking guests. No coffee makers and bate bones. But good staff.
- 4/5
Fine Hotel for the price. Nice people.
- 2/5
Not vacuumed, dated furniture, cheap throughout. No way a 2.5 star property.
- 4/5
Great service to jfk air port. Rooms were clean but old dated. It definitely needs renovation.
- 5/5
I always stay there. Never had any problems
- 2/5
no one at this hotel cares anything about cleanliness . nasty!
- 2/5
No elevator, no closet, poor bath room facilities, lack of amenities overall. I would never use them again.
- 4/5
Conveinent staff very friendly walking distance to restaurants
- 4/5
If you want a ride from the airport make sure to call them when you land, they'll pick you right up at the door if you want. You can make an appointment for a ride to the airport. Their shuttle isn't continuously making trips all day like the bigger hotel chains. There's a lot of really good food within walking distance, a lot of places close by will deliver free as well. Public transportation readily available to go anywhere you want.
- 2/5
The bed/mattress was very uncomfortable The motel is very loud all night. Their shuttle service to the airport was excellent.
- 2/5
This is a much older Hotel that was remodeled many years ago. Has the ability to come across as quaint but it's still run down
- 3/5
Spartan rooms in a nice neighborhood
- 2/5
Very basic! Bathrooms are so small nothing there are no hooks for anything. Towels seemed from the dollar store. It was close to the JFK airport for a one night economical stay - that's it.
- 4/5
Great little motel. I lot of loud you know what going on at night.
- 3/5
I chose this place because it is close to the airport. It was pretty confirtable and very clean, easy to find and with good places to eat dinner and breakfast.
- 3/5
Checked in past midnight, had a good night sleep, but from 5am i couldnt sleep properly because i could hear the voice of ladies screaming from a couple of rooms, when i opened my door to check what was going on i realised they were making out.
- 5/5
Great Location off the freeway. Free parking for hotel guests, we left the car for 3 days and used the local bus service to town. Fast friendly reception service. Nice size room with comfy bed and pillows. Spotless bathroom with good size bath. Overall we had a great stay.
- 3/5
The staff was very helpful, room was clean but had a bit of a low tide smell.
- 4/5
Close to the beach. Nice people. Walking distance from good places to eat.
- 3/5
no coffee machine, or fridge, or microwave. Just sleep, use internet, get to airport. No particular nice view. Mellow neighborhood. Clean and easy for JFK.
- 1/5
Really just a place to bring a one night stand for a couple of hours,
- 1/5
My experience with this motel is terrible. Exclusive room is so bad that I can't describe you, on the door cold welcome, like what you want now, room dirty, hot tub never saw muriatic acid (usually people and companies using to clean hot-tub) have green stuff inside (algie, show up if you don't maintain properly pool or hot-tub and need to be washed with muriatic acid) bathroom is dirty, around toilet is yellow, sheet on bad is gray color with some stain, when you're going to tell something on front desk he just jump on me, where is motel located is dangerous on every 50 feet is police with blue lights, on street noise all night, people yelling and is not comfortable at all, all stores have around have roll door or some other protection on Windows and doors.
- 5/5
Nice motel near JFK. Safe neighborhood.
- 3/5
Stay was ok. Hotel really needs to be updated. Computer System. Rooms. Room Security & Locks. Carpet. etc. Also, shuttle only goes to JFK Airport. Price should be much lower based on the overall condition. $45 - $65 range.
- 2/5
Close to the airport, however it was quite noisy and not sound proof at all. The beds were made with two flat sheets and no fitted sheets and had an annoying plastic covering the mattresses. Inexpensive, but if we ever go back to New York, I will definitely pay extra for a nicer hotel.
- 3/5
The hotel is ok. Would recommend they put a towel rack by the bathroom sink. There was no place to hang a towel by the sink and all they had were bath towels, no hand towels. They didn't have any towel racks by the bathtub either.
- 1/5
I did not end up staying the night. There were dead bugs in the bath drop ceiling. Mold in the A/C unit. The place is run down and smells terrible. Do not believe the pictures shown on the hotels.com web site they must have been taken years ago. Unfortunately could not get a refund, should have booked a 5 star hotel for what it cost me.
- 3/5
improve the closet situation, no hangers, an extra chair, better linens and lighting. The management was exceptional and we felt very comfortable with all of the staff. We felt secure an safe and welcome. The price was high. All in all, we stayed and were glad we did.
- 5/5
I chose the SurfSide Motel because of its price (around $100) and location--literarily 10 minutes shuttle ride from JFK. What I did not know was that it was located in the Howard Beach neighborhood on the border between Queens and Brooklyn, which was the old stomping grounds of mafia characters as portrayed in films such as 'Good Fellas.' While that might seem like ancient history today, the area still has that unique flavor--getting a cup of coffee across the street from SurfSide seemed like walking into a movie set of 'Good Fellas Revisited 40 Years Later.' The area is also packed with all manor of nifty restaurants. The only downside I can think of is that there was not only no in-room coffee or mini-fridge, and no in-house coffee/breakfast area. But, as suggested above, this deficit was more than made up for with the stroll across the street to a world-class deli that apparently serves as the hang-out-in-retirement of knots of local 'notables.'
- 4/5
Kept us away from the major traffic.. and close to calm relaxing water.. basic room but good for NY
- 2/5
The motel smells of smoke. Howard Beach station is a bit too far to walk, especially late at night on return. There was easy neighborhood parking near the station so was easy to get subway to NYC and then airtrain to JFK...although the motel gives transportation to JFK, this is one way only so could not pick up my daughter on her return flight and get shuttled back to the motel to drive home...instead had to park at train station and leave from there. The motel area is safe as far as i could tell which is better than many other options. It served its purpose but was not some place I would stay for pleasure. I might stay there again under similar circumstances as I could not find great alternatives. Overall if not for the smoke smell it would have left a better impression. Certainly cheaper than staying in the city.
- 3/5
Hotel staff was very nice. Hotel needs to be repaired and upgraded due to Hurricane Sandy 2 years ago.
- 3/5
AGAIN WE SAY THANKS! in a world that is becoming so uncaring, it is good to find those who cares.
- 3/5
Near JFK and probably the only plus side to it. Our room was worn out, planes are heard all the time, area is sketchy and we were unlucky enough to have a room on the parking lot side and some idiot played his car music on full blast. It's not the hotel's fault ofcourse but it reflects the insolation and noise cancelling abilities of the room. Oh before I forget, the staff was extra helpful so I would give them a plus on that part too
- 1/5
DEAD BUGS IN BATHROOM AND IN CEILING WOULD NEVER GO BACK STAFF VERY NIECE.
- 5/5
Fine for a few nights, It was clean and good beds.
- 2/5
My son and I needed a place to stay while visiting family nearby. I didn't realize the neighborhood was sketchy enough to require security glass at the check-in desk...that was my first clue to the experience. It's right next to some sort of big party venue/social club, so I'm guessing people stay at the motel after they party. The hallway is dingy and unappealing; the room has no closet and no towel racks in the bathroom, just a few hooks on the wall. There's nowhere to put your toiletries in the bathroom. The shower had not been cleaned from the previous occupant (shampoo, soap scum, hair in the tub). The towels are so old and thin you can practically see through them. The bed is covered with rubber (which considering the surroundings is probably a good idea!) and just the sheet on top of that--no mattress pad, which was kind of weird. There was a little noise from other guests in the hallway, but it wasn't bad. I guess for the location, the price is not bad.
- 3/5
Complimentary collection from the airport was excellent, room was very dated and bedding was tatty. Reasonable size room and comfortable bed. Staff friendly and helpful.
- 1/5
Every part of Room and furnishings was old, smelly, dated, and ceiling panels literally falling down. Don't let outside deceive you. Actually left at 2 a.m. and drive 3 hours home because couldn't stand it any longer
