Reviews
The hotel's location is consistently praised by guests, and the staff is often described as friendly and helpful. However, the cleanliness and condition of the rooms are frequent points of contention, with many guests expressing disappointment.
- Excellent location
- Friendly and helpful staff
- Rooms often described as dirty or in disrepair
- Inconsistent room amenities and maintenance

It was actually really nice, I loved that it was so close to the subway station and had restaurants all around! didn’t have to worry about food and transportation. One thing I do wanna see improvement is their showers, it’s so tiny! Not made for bigger people.

Great place! Will go back again

This a migrant hotel and does not state this while booking. Had to find another hotel after being notified by the front desk there was no availability even though we were able to book the hotel room.
- 4/5
Elegant & upscale lobby with 24-hour security. I felt very safe. The street is very loud with sirens. We bought a white noise at a local Target to drown out the street noise. Great location. We saved money during our vacation snacking in our room via using our mini kitchen, fridge, and microwave. There's a Starbuck's literally across the street and an awesome pastry coffee shop directly below the hotel. Greay location I'd definitely stay there again.

Great location across the street from MSG. A lot of great places to eat and visit. 10 block walk to Times Square. Brought in the New Year in NYC and couldn’t have stayed at a nicer hotel. Friendly service, plenty of elevators. Great lobby with work stations and plenty of seating to just hang out and relax. Great price as well. Will stay here again the next time we visit. Nice bar as well !

The hotel was not as it was advertised in Expedia. Basically the photos used in the webpage are photoshopped. Also the rooms were extremely dirty. Stains all over the place and air was coming in from the windows so it was ver cold. Bathrooms were outdated. This hotel should not even have a one star neither Expedia recommending it.
- 5/5
Pretty cool stay. Only downside was that my room had no AC luckily it was cold outside and the open window sufficed.
- 5/5
"Landry room " yes!
- 4/5
The rooms were spacious and the front desk was very helpful. The property is older though and updates in the rooms are needed. Furniture was showing a lot of wear and tear.
- 1/5
I do not recommend this hotel at all. Our vacation has turned into a nightmare.
- 2/5
We had to change rooms 3 times upon arrival. The rooms were cold (air conditioner in the window which created a breeze), noisy (windows are old), dirty (we had to purchase cleaning supplies to clean our bathroom-especially the shower) and overall just worn.
- 2/5
We stayed in room 1007. There was mold and mildew in the bathroom! Dust was alllllover the shades. The amount of grime built up in the corners of the bathroom (especially next to tub) was so gross. The vent in the shower was covered in dust. The carpet was dirty and stained. I will never stay here again or recommend this hotel to anyone. So disappointing.
- 2/5
When we checked in at 11pm at night, our room was not ready for us. It had not been cleaned. We had to wait in the lobby until the room was cleaned quickly (and poorly) at the last minute. I reserved for 4 travelers, but there were only pillows and towels for 3. The sofa bed to accommodate the 2 of the travelers was not made. We had to request pillows and towels. Everything was in rough shape in the room - wallpaper peeling, carpet dirty. Would not stay there again.
- 4/5
Front desk people were amazing. Very professional and helpful. The room was ok for the price. The bathroom could have been cleaner but overall, it was fine. We booked 2 weeks before our trim and we still got a good price and everything was close to us, so we had fun
- 4/5
Hotel is nice. The building needs some updating. Lobby is nice and so is the staff. Hallways are very dimly light. Rooms are ok they could be way better. Location is great.
- 4/5
Nice staff.
- 1/5
We spent close to 1000 for two rooms 2 nights, it was terrible in every possible way.
- 5/5
We had a great stay there!
- 4/5
Location is the best that this hotel can offer. Most of the receptionists are nice and helpful. The housekeeping people, when you call their office either nobody picks up the phone or busy line. The entire stay (6 days) our room was only cleaned 2 x and we have to request it via the receptionist. Otherwise, we enjoyed our stay and will stay again.
- 4/5
It feels like this hotel is close to everything. Subway, food, MSG, the train, shops, everything. That is the part that I found the best. Beyond that, the staff was very nice and accommodating, and the room was comfortable and well stocked.
- 4/5
Gravest location right across from Penn Street Station. Nice hotel, decor a little dated.
- 2/5
Need upgrade to many fee's to pay.
- 4/5
We stayed here about 15 years ago and came back. Arriving by train, we like that the hotel is just across the street. We had a corner suite with a great view down 7th avenue all the way th Central Park. Traveling with our adult daughter, I was happy to have the second bathroom too.
- 4/5
The rooms aren't terrible. They need to be revamped for sure. They are outdated and warn. The staff was always very friendly. There's quite alot that is within walking distance of the hotel.
- 5/5
The staff was all very accommodating. The only issues I seen were blood stains on the mattress protector of the pull out bed and on the white comforter of the main bed.
- 2/5
Rooms aged, not properly cleaned.
- 2/5
Very old hotel, room didn’t have a phone in it so had to call concierge from personal phone (who never picked up), so ended up having to go down to lobby for all requests. Shift managers and some staff clearly don’t need to be in the hospitality profession given their disengagement and disposition where they appear to always be bothered by questions.
- 3/5
The entire room had a musky oder and sliding door was not on the track and could not close it at all otherwise the staff was all nice and friendly
- 2/5
The carpet felt dusty and dirty, also the sofa bed provided was in terrible condition and not sleepable. For the price aid is really not worth it. the only good about this hotel is its great location.
- 2/5
I booked 2 rooms. There was no heat in one of our rooms. Only sheets om the bed. Asled for extra blankets since we couldnt get another room. Was told there were no more blankets. They brought us a mattress cover to cover up with! Rooms smelled. Bathroom walls were disgusting. Tile had things crusted on them. Shower smelled and was dirty.
- 5/5
Everything about this facility was incredible! We had the loveliest room ever! The staff was amazing and I definitely will stay here again!!! (:
- 1/5
We got at the property 1h before the check in , wait 2h and the room wanst ready
- 5/5
Very nice location, subway easy access. Good place to have breakfast around.
- 4/5
Check in was FAST. elevator required a door key to go up- THIS WAS VERY NICE- felt safe. Room looked not so much like pictures. Def needed updating on either the pictures or the rooms. Preferably the rooms. Our room only had hot water the first day or two. Basic necessities were available in the room. View was very nice from our windows. Had to have the ac on over night and it was anywhere between 30-40 degrees outside- heat in the building was crazy. Literally across the street from MSG so that was a absolute plus**** We were just in to sleep and shower, but the rooms could use a lot of tlc. Would stay again. Staff was awesome. Everyone acknowledged you and at least smiled.
- 3/5
Front desk staff were a bit rude and know very little about the room types. Made mistakes with room at check in but wouldnt correct it until check out. Quite frustrating. Restaurant closes too early . It's NYC folks. We went to see Andrea Bocelli. Serves liquior but no kitchen service. Very disappointed. The rooms are nice. Hallways need more lighting. Not a safe feeling. More than 1 set of towels in the room would be appreciated, especially when you have 2 guests. No cups for water or coffee?
- 4/5
Very good staying

Dear Health Department, How is this hotel allowed to operate? It’s a filthy, dirty and disgusting property and changing rooms twice only confirmed that the entire place is a horror show! Every surface, every wall, every lampshade every inch of this wretched and unsanitary place was a cesspool of filth!! They should be ashamed of themselves! 3.5 stars right! It’s NOT even a 1 star property. The absolute most disgusting hotel I’ve ever stayed at in my entire life!!!! No money in the world would get me to walk through those doors ever again!
- 2/5
My room was not clean. I wanted to leave but I did not have any other place to go.
- 3/5
Staff very good although the owners of the hotel need to put money into maintenance. Ceiling peeling, walls need painting. the hotel is gong downhill due to lack of interest by the owners
- 3/5
The second room I was moved to was larger and more accommodating for two beds. The room certainly needs to be deep cleaned. The vents in the bathroom were growing dust. There was a kitchen area however no silverware. Housekeeping did come daily to make the beds however I had to call and ask for coffee as needed and bathroom tissue. Overall the price was not comparable with the accommodations compared to alternative hotels in the area (expensive for old rooms). I had booked the Stewart because of proximity to Penn Station. I have stayed at the Stewart hotel before and thoroughly enjoyed my stay, this time not so much. When I return to NY next time I will consider an alternative.
- 2/5
The hotel rooms were in terrible condition: blood and fecal stains on the walls and headboard, gum and other stains on the carpet and furniture, and missing amenities like shampoo, hangers, and sufficient pillows. Housekeeping did their best and provided clean linens each day, but the rooms themselves were beyond cleaning.
- 3/5
This hotel is in severe need of repair and updating to the rooms. The room we were given had carpets were dirty and torn. The bathroom wall paper pealing. No hangers in the closets, no cups, the chair was filthy. I went to the front desk and the the attendant was kind, concerned and gave us a new room which was much better. She was very helpful.
- 1/5
This hotel is filthy. Not dirty, not a little messy — it is FILTHY. The headboards were disgusting, bedskirts completely stained, bathroom grimy (with a leaky sink), and the carpet ripped up in parts of our room. Even the lamp and night table were incredibly dirty. There were also zero amenities — no shampoo, soap, conditioner, iron, or hairdryer. I stayed here a few years ago and it was not like this. Would never stay again and highly recommend others avoid as well. Not worth the *slightly* cheaper pricing than neighboring hotels. I’ve never left a hotel review before but this place deserves it. I came home and immediately showered and washed every item of clothing in my bag — even ones I didn’t wear. I’m afraid of what I might have brought home from a hotel that doesn’t clean it’s rooms.
- 5/5
The stay was pleasent! The front desk receive us before the check in and let us get rest at the room before the estimated time. We are satisfied with the stay.
- 3/5
The room had a carpet stain, pull out sofa bed had crumbs and stains, shower was tiny, tv worked intermittently (had to get it serviced twice), the ac was not available to us first night so it was very hot in the room. Staff attended to all our requests for fixing tv, additional necessities of towels and soap, and fixed tv and air unit. I expected better quality than the pictures online revealed.
- 3/5
Good location.
- 2/5
The room looked nothing like the pictures online and was dirty. The carpet was not attached to the floor and was riddled with holes. There were stains on everything. For the price, this experience was extremely disappointing and not worth it. I will never stay here again and nor should you.
- 1/5
Bottom line -- an old hotel that needs to invest in its infrastructure and proper staffing.
- 4/5
GREAT location, in the heart of Chelsea NY and near Peloton studios. lobby nice. gym nice. rooms and floors need a major renovation. room was OK/Fine. very basic, definitely outdated. relatively clean. Great size of room with kitchen and living area. overall, fine for the $
- 5/5
Convenient to lots of eating options
- 2/5
Room was dirty, didn’t have extra sheets, pillows, coffee machine, hair dryer etc. It didn’t even have a phone to call the front desk and the elevator was experiencing problems to reach the floor I was staying at. I had to use the service elevator in order to get into my room. For the value it wasn’t worth it.
- 3/5
The lobby is the only area that looks nice and fancy, everything else looks old, dusty and outdated.
- 1/5
broken glass desk that was taped up, popcorn kernels all over carpet, blood on bathroom walls, wallpaper filthy, stained and peeling, globs of toothpaste on carpet, broken AC/Heat unit, broken alarm block, pubic hair all over bathroom floor, 1 pillow on each double bed, no blankets, broken lights.... we left, 4 other couples did too
- 1/5
Other than the location, this hotel doesn’t have much going for it. The rooms look dirty-the windows are so dirty that you can’t see your view and the blinds are caked in dust and dirt. The bathroom shower is full of rust and there was a cockroach in the ceiling in the hallway. I would not stay here again
- 2/5
It is an old hotel which need serious maintenance. The staff was very very friendly and it is well located from a couple of metro stations and shopping. The first night my room was like a sauna and the bathroom smelled terrible. I asked to change room and the hotel comply to a better room.
- 4/5
The facility was clean but did need a small amount of upkeeping- nothing that would deter us from returning ( small carpet stain, marks on table, small rip in hallway wallpaper). Room was spacious and staff was very friendly and helpful! There is also a wonderful bakery located right next store ( Paris Baguette) that we had breakfast at daily! Accessible from the street for wheelchair via side entrance elevator which was wonderful.
- 1/5
Pics did not match room. Fire department next door.. sirens going all hours of the night.
- 5/5
A wonderful, conveniently located hotel in the city!

This is a gorgeous hotel. We loved the location! The room was spacious and the staff was so attentive! We will stay here again!

I stay at the hotel periodically, the location across from Penn and the price are what is attractive to me. It’s not the most spectacular place but it’s relatively clean and does the job. I spend most of my time outside exploring the city and a place to come back to to sleep is all I need 👍
- 4/5
Good location near many sites. Room was cleaned will stay again.
- 2/5
Very dirty ! I had dirty sheets and airconditioning was falling apart. Had to ask more then one time for a extra mug! Not recommended
- 3/5
Hotel is in a very lovely area! Close to everything… but it is very run down! Bathroom was not clean and very old, the drainer was broken, the bed was very uncomfortable.. woke up with back pain!! For the amount I payed overnight I expected better!
- 3/5
Great location in walking distance to Times Square, Empire State, and 5th
- 4/5
My experience was awesome! Reminds me of a boutique hotel. Staff was warm and welcoming. Very accommodating. My suite was to be as expected. Stayed for a week and it met my expectations. The restaurant was terrific and happy hour rocked!!! Will definitely be returning again!
- 4/5
Every day we had to go to reception to reset our room keys which was frustrating and with long ques was not ideal when wanting to get into our room.
- 4/5
The attached restaurant Niles was excellent
- 4/5
The staff and cleaning team are very friendly and professional. The hotel is very well located, its facilities and rooms are comfortable and safe. They have a fridge to store your things. The only thing we are not pleased with is that the air conditioner in the room is an old window air conditioner that barely cooled and was dirty. The fridge didn't get very cold either and we had problems with the toilet due to lack of maintenance. Other than that, the stay was good. 9 out of 10
- 1/5
The fire alarm went off a little after 6 am with lots of announcements and noise. It scared my kids a lot. It went off again around around 6:30 am, with the same noise, announcements to stay put by the fire Marshall and alarms. Kids were upset. In addition the room is very worn out. For example, someone had broken the sink off its stand and was it was uneven (looks like someone unsuccessfully tried to glue it on). One more example of the unfortunate experience: the room was one million degrees and we couldn’t turn down the heat (already set to as low as possible). To me, $450+ for one night wasn’t worth it.
- 5/5
Another fabulous stay at the Stewart. As always great value for money, excellent location & friendly efficient staff. A special mention to Curtis who rescued us when our less than friendly taxi driver left us 1 block from the hotel with too many bags for us to manage. The man is a total legend.
- 2/5
The photos online and the actual room were in two very different conditions. While the location was convenient, the room was dirty and in major need of a remodel. We had to get towels each night, there was often no one at the front desk, and despite complaining about the stark difference in the online photo and our actual room, there was nothing done and no apology. We were very disappointed.
- 1/5
The rooms are in terrible condition. Carpet is torn, wallpaper is peeling off with high probability of mold under. Not even in decent condition
- 4/5
Clean and comfortable beds. Looks dated. Under staffed as every business in post Covid era.
- 5/5
Amazing location and huge rooms with a kitchen.. it just needs a major reno, looking very old.
- 5/5
An apartment in nyc it’s terrific
- 5/5
All around great experience!
- 3/5
This hotel is right across from Penn Station so A+ for convenience if you're flying out of EWR. It is safe and clean. My room was large by NY standards but it is old and oddly the radiator heat was on and couldn't turn off and the window unit air conditioners had to run too for it to be comfortable. Staff was friendly and helpful. Overall good.
- 4/5
Cons: The rooms are very outdated and could use some upgrading. The floor carpet was ripped, the bathroom was very tiny and we felt the fan in the bathroom did not work. The hotel is also very close to the fire station so we heard sirens all day and night.
- 5/5
3 Closets and a balcony overlooking madison square garden.
- 3/5
Convenient location BUT definitely needs a remodel
- 3/5
Pretty good location. Rooms are very dated. Lights and blinds had a thick coat of dust on them. Room paint very faded. Bathroom needs updating and thorough cleaning. Rooms look nothing like pictures on Expedia. Staff was friendly
- 3/5
The hotel staff were nice but thats about it. The room was very badly insulated so it was cold and noisy. There were old stains in the room and on the bed sheets. The location is convenient, but the room really does not make it worth it.
- 2/5
The hotel location wise is great. Very convenient to get anywhere in the city - upper or lower. However, the hotel is extremely old. Rooms are very small. You can't even pass each other in the room. Bathroom just as small. Can't even turn around in the bathroom. For all those challenges and I don't know how the staff does it, but our room was spotless and made up each day.
- 5/5
I have stayed here more than 20 times over the past year. It is always clean, dependable, and comfortable. Love this hotel!
- 3/5
I liked how the hotel was close to everything. I didn’t like that are room was dirty, the washroom shower had hair all over the tub and walls and the room had a smell
- 4/5
We love the space that the larger rooms have to offer. We did not get the room we reserved, however, but we’re refunded the resort fee. There were parts of the room that definitely hadn’t been cleaned in a long time. The drapes had layers of dust and the dust in the bathroom was also very evident. Overall, the location and size of rooms was great.
- 4/5
Other than that, all was just fine and will stay there again when in NYC.
- 3/5
Our room had cockroaches. The hotel reminded me of the american horror story.
- 3/5
I rarely post negative reviews, but my experience was lousy and the customer service was terrible. I don’t expect people to cater to my every whim, but I don’t like to be outright treated like crap. I booked a one bedroom suite for 3 nights (marathon weekend). I realize later that I want to come in a day earlier. I tried to extend my reservation but the room was not available. Finally I decided to just book a different room for one night and then switch to my original room. I checked in and explained why I had 2 reservations. I was promised a late check out and an early check in. At no point during this conversation was I told that the room for my second reservation was undergoing repairs and wasn’t available. The next day my husband goes down to switch rooms. We’re told the room isn’t available because of a leak but we’re getting one that’s just as good. She hands over the keys. We try to get into room but the keys don’t work. The cleaning service won’t let us even look at it (fine, that’s policy). We go back down twenty floors. Stand in line. Get new keys. Go back up. They don’t work. So we go back down. Make someone go up with us and the room isn’t even close to what I booked. It’s short one entire bed. we’re in town for the marathon. We need beds! They don’t care. Refused to fully adjust price. We wasted hours trying to sort the rooms. I asked for a refund for that night. I was told no Bc if I booked that rm that night it would cost more.Duh.why would I book sameday?
