Reviews
Guests generally enjoy the hotel's stylish design, rooftop bar, and central location, but have mixed feelings about the service and room amenities. Some guests appreciate the self-service aspects, while others find it inconvenient and impersonal. The rooms are often described as small but well-designed, with some guests expressing disappointment in the lack of privacy and amenities.
- Stylish design and decor
- Rooftop bar with amazing views
- Inconsistent service quality
- Small rooms with lack of privacy and amenities
- 5/5
Very nice and cool for everything
- 5/5
PUBLIC is a very hip hotel with very nice amenities and a seemingly great following. Lots always going on in the common areas. Great juice bar and trippy escalator experience upon entering the foyer. The beds are incredibly comfy!! Who knew that an on/off button in the generous shower stall (great water pressure) was what my life was missing. Great location steps away from 2nd Avenue subway and a well-appointed Whole Foods. Really enjoyed our stay here!
- 5/5
I loved this hotel! Favorite place I’ve stayed in NYC yet. Beautiful rooms, great location, smoothie juice bar, and a garden outside perfect for daytime or ending the night. The check in staff could have been a bit more welcoming for the price but hey it’s new york after all lol. Also would say it’s geared towards a younger crowd especially with the roof / lobby clubs open on the weekends. Hope to be back soon!
- 1/5
The bathroom situation for the shower is absolutely clownery.
- 5/5
Enjoyed the variety of amenities offered to guests
- 5/5
Great hotel, convenient location to everything. Very clean!
- 5/5
It was a great hotel for young people
- 5/5
Great place, would definitely stay again
- 5/5
One thing that was annoying was that you couldn’t work past 6pm on your laptop in the common spaces. I understand why, just something to note if you are on a work trip. I had a loft king room and it was facing a busy street, view was nice but it got pretty loud at night (8th floor). Especially on the weekends. Get a room not facing the street if you can!
- 4/5
Did not appreciate the resort fee but that’s NYC. Have stayed here many times. Lots to do nearby and easy subway access to everywhere.
- 2/5
On arrival, I found they added a surprise $40 per day "Access Fee" for the hotel. You'd think you'd have access when you've paid for a room, but not here. A shady way to dramatically change the cost of your stay once it's too late. They also put me on the 3rd floor initially, and the room was shaking from the music in the club below. Not a great experience.
- 5/5
Stayed here this past week and had an amazing experience. Lysandra greeted us upon arrival and set the tone for our stay perfect stay. Extremely attentive and personable. I definitely recommend and will be back!
- 5/5
Clean room fun location.
- 5/5
One of the best hotel I've ever stayed at, and they are worth every penny you spent. The common amenities are beautifully designed, it felt like a pristine museum/fancy lounge. The single room has a Japandi aesthetic which is really well-designed to feel spacious within the small space. Lighting are perfect, bright, warm, and cozy. Staffs are really well-dressed and caring. They accommodated my stay attentively. Highly recommended and definitely come back for another time.
- 5/5
On site food was amazing
- 5/5
Had such an amazing stay. All of the staff were extremely friendly and super helpful. They even managed to help us get placed in our room in the morning time, even though check-in was in the afternoon. Me and my friends will be back every time we go to New York.
- 4/5
Great price hotel and so close to all that SoHo has to offer. We found the rooms a little bit under sound proofed so if noise bothers you then please be aware.
- 5/5
Staff helpful and rooms have nice light, and are well arranged. Great location, fun bars & cafes.
- 5/5
Chic
- 5/5
Clean, sophisticated, minimalist aesthetic that created a relaxing and rejuvenating atmosphere! My husband and I went for a staycation, and it was wonderful!!!
- 5/5
We loved this hotel! I didn’t realize we were walking into such a beautiful oasis in the middle of the city. We loved all the amenities they offered and even took a free breath work class. The hotel staff were extremely helpful and the rooms were beautiful. The next time I visit NYC, I will definitely be staying here again.
- 5/5
Very pleasant stay, the hotel is beautiful and well maintained. We got a free upgrade, will definitely be back again
- 5/5
nice staff very friendly
- 5/5
Very beautiful property. Clean, the staff were very helpful and professional. Great restaurant and loved the smoothie bar. Over all amazing stay. Will be back and definitely going to recommend friends and family. Appreciate the love and personalized service!
- 5/5
The room was clean and surprisingly quiet for a busy city. And the bed was very comfortable . Overall was very pleased with this hotel.
- 5/5
Great location, restaurant, bar and lounges very comfortable and convient.
- 5/5
Fantastic everything. I will be back!

The property is beautiful and the staff were extremely accommodating and friendly. The walls are thin, however, so be aware you will likely hear your neighbor!
- 5/5
I have stayed at the Public multiple times of the past several years, and now with a college student in NYC visit even more often. The highlights of the hotel are: the design of the rooms is brilliant- warm and modern, making them seem larger than they are, the common work area- inviting and spacious with comfy sofas, the cafe downstairs (shoutout to Noel!) as well as the garden space out front. Over the last few years the hotel has experimented with automated checkin (zero staff at checkin) which didn’t work well and have now landed on a hybrid of auto checkin and staffed kiosk which works really well. Will book again!
- 5/5
Great location. The rooms are so chic and the café downstairs is awesome.
- 2/5
Tiny room, poor service.
- 2/5
Sadly this stay was disappointing. My husband and I booked The Public because we were in town for NY Design week on a work trip, and although we expected the room to be small we didn't expect everything else to be sub-par. It started off badly with the mattress in our room being awful. We are not picky when it comes to mattresses, but this was extremely lumpy, uneven and you could feel the springs. So we asked if there was anything they could do and after talking to multiple unhelpful people we finally spoke to the manager. She was very nice and did her best to come up with a solution, however, the best they could do was move us to a room with two twin beds. The amenities were very slim - no stocked mini fridge, housekeeping never replaced our drink glasses or our tissues or gave us a new bathmat (this was necessary because the shower water runs straight into the toilet area so you need a bathmat to catch it). I've stayed at a few other Ian Schrager hotels before and expected much better, but found The Public to be all aesthetic and no function/comfort. Will not be returning.
- 4/5
The hotel is very nice and modern. Check-in was a little delayed, but the hotel did good by us by extending a late check-out on our departure day to make up for the delay. We were also originally put in a connecting room which was a little loud, but the hotel MOD Andy took really good care of us and moved us to another room which was perfect! Andy was fantastic. We also really liked the various café's, restaurants and bars, particularly the rooftop bar. Liv was a wonderful host at the various locations and took very good care of us as well! The gym is quite well equiped and well maintained. Housekeeping missed cleaning our room a couple of days over the 5 day stay, which was the only real negative comment. I really rate this hotel high up for a NYC option. If check-in would have been perfect, original room assignment noise level not had hapoened and housekeeping not missed, the hotel would have definitely received 5 star on all counts. I highly recommend this hotel if you are visiting NYC and enjoy SOHO area.
- 5/5
Rooms need to be spacious and more exclusive and elite roof top will go better with hotel
- 5/5
It’s a beautiful location wish the music in the club was better but overall great time.
- 4/5
The staff was very helpful and professional. Very welcoming.
- 5/5
Incredible stay. Staff is so kind and stored our luggage after we had already checked out so that we could explore the city comfortably. Rooms are so clean and elegant. Restaurants are amazing. Already planning our next trip!
- 5/5
We loved all the options for places to hang out
- 5/5
Everything was great…. The baby had such a great time
- 5/5
Great hotel and staff. Very cool decor and the rooftop bar has a great view. Service at the bar was not so great. The only issue I had was the filtered water machines on every floor. The one on our floor did not work so we had to go to another floor. Also they were not designed to fill bottles. Even the bottles in the room, so it was always a mess trying to fill them.
- 5/5
Free coffee should run longer in morning. Not a huge fan of the self check in. Seemed impersonal, do want to feel like someone was there and attentive.

The Public is situated in a great location near China Town. Little Italy, and SoHo. It’s a pretty fast cab ride to Midtown and downtown. I didn’t get a chance to try the restaurant because it was closed. The café was pretty good with breakfast food, fresh juice, and coffee. Housekeeping was very accommodating and the room was clean and orderly. There are things in the room that are comfortable for example thats a bit awkward, for example, there was no place to hang a towel in the bathroom area, no Kleenex, and no hairdryer, so I had to request these items. There are no hooks so you have to place it somewhere close to the shower, which is very tiny. The design is very much like the Edition hotel near Times Square, which I’ve stayed at several times and I enjoy because there is an amazing restaurant and bars. It’s very minimalist design. The table could use one more chair and better quality seating/chairs. I did not get a chance to sample the rooftop bar, but I will have to do that on my next journey or the club for that matter. The front desk staff was very helpful in anything that I needed. Andy, the front desk manager was also very accommodating. I typically stay in upscale properties in Midtown and this hotel really held its own against bigger brands that are more luxurious. It has a younger vibe, which was fine. Overall, a very comfortable stay.
- 5/5
Absolutely loved my stay here! The courtyard was so beautiful and was a much welcome peaceful place to take a break from the city. The room was very clean, smelled nice, and the housekeeping staff was exceptional. Would definitely stay again
- 2/5
There were homeless people sleeping in the lobby
- 5/5
Amazing staff. Amazing amenities. Great location.
- 4/5
Small rooms but very nice
- 5/5
Beautiful place I will be back 😍😍

- 5/5
Love it and can't wait to stay again .
- 5/5
This was my first time staying here and I was very impressed by the location, service, and amenities. I will definitely return and rate it 10/10
- 5/5
Great rooftop bar. Room was very nicely appointed.
- 5/5
The customer service is always consistently amazing. The rooms are clean and comfortable..
- 5/5
Very fun and happening hotel.
- 1/5
Hotel is great, service is really bad.
- 5/5
I liked it all, it's gorgeous with every detail taken care of. The outdoor garden was such a beautiful retreat from the city. The rooftop was such a pleasure.
- 4/5
The best thing about this hotel is its location. It is in a great neighborhood with some excellent outdoor space in the front oasis area and on the roof. The rooms are small but efficient. It is hard to figure out how to work the lights in the room, and there are no easy instructions. It is not a quiet hotel, but that is a tradeoff for being in a neighborhood. The staff are helpful but there seems to be a philosophy to offer minimal support to customers.
- 4/5
Room shower was not a good design. Water poured out within 30 secs of turning the shower on. No lotion, slippers, or water available, had to call for slippers ( much needed since the floors had a lot of dust and turned the bottom of the slippers gray/ black in less than a few hours of wearing it). There were wet spots on the sheets that smelled very heavily of laundry detergent upon arrival. Rooftop and other lounges around the hotel were very nice.
- 5/5
Superb stay, great location, room size for value.
- 5/5
The ice machine was broke. On our floor but everything else was amazing
- 5/5
Everything was amazing but there is a disconnect between the front desk and management. I ordered a few things for the room before it was ready. Champagne
- 5/5
Staff could be friendlier. The common areas seem to be overcrowded by people who are not staying at the hotel, which is fine but something to be mindful of. Overall, this hotel was a 10/10. The staff at the rooftop bar could be friendlier.
- 3/5
Staff are nice but I didn’t get my hotels.com F&B credit and the water dispenser on my floor was broken meaning I had to go up and down each time I needed to get water.
- 2/5
The double room I booked was not available upon check in. They gave me 2 queen rooms instead for the night. The next day we were to move to the double room, and had to wait an additional hour until it was ready. The staff made the entire situation more confusing than it needed to be, and was very disappointed with my stay.
- 5/5
Loved my stay! The coffee shop, rooftop bar, club, all the amenities were wonderful. Hotel was beautiful, I went with the higher floor and did not regret it. Would book again and again.
- 5/5
fantastic views, lovely lobby and bar ambiance
- 3/5
This is a really lovely hotel in a great location. My only gripe is the resort fees they charge, an 'all access' fee for access to gym etc. Whether you use those amenities or not. Seems dishonest to me.
- 4/5
Clean, comfortable, with great energy.
- 5/5
Excellent
- 5/5
Great
- 3/5
Our room was sufficient for our needs, although a little small. There was very little wardrobe space which meant most of our clothes stayed in our suitcases. The bathroom was clean and modern - but you can see through the glass both in and out, which was fine for us as a married couple, but if you’re staying with someone you aren’t THAT comfortable with…not so much! The safe also didn’t work - kept saying an error message when we tried to program it to lock. On the first night, we had an issue where a member of staff spoke rudely to us because we used the elevator supposedly reserved for the rooftop bar (we had no way of knowing this). We reported it to management via the feedback request on Hotels.com, but it was never followed up. The second morning after housekeeping had been, the sheers in our room stopped functioning, meaning we had to climb onto the bed to move them manually when we wanted them open or closed. When we checked out, we discovered that Public charges a $45 per night ‘resort fee’ to cover ‘access to 24/7 gym, rooftop bar, lobby spaces’ etc. We used the gym once, and didn’t use any other amenities, so felt like it was a sneaky charge. Perhaps it should be charged on a guest-by-guest basis on individual need….
- 4/5
Staff is great. Cleanliness great. Bars great. Ambiance great. Views amazing. The only negative were the room's fearures wasn't working. My initial room had sheer drapes that didn't open. 2nd room has lights that didn't work. 3rd room was good until a few hours in. The sheer drapes didn't close. But I understand things malfunction. The hotel was very accommodating. I will visit again.
- 4/5
Tiny rooms like a cruise ship. Beds on platform against window require either inside sleeper to get out of bed and step down from platform or crawl over partner.
- 5/5
Loved the staff. Rooms were great. Everything was amazing. They have a club and rooftop. Amazing stay. Will be coming back soon.
- 5/5
This was my first time and experience at public hotel, and I had a comfortable amazing wonderful stay. I definitely am planning on going back to spend a weekend so that this time I could try out some of the events and catch the brunch and bars on the property. overall great day will do it again.
- 5/5
Loved it. Super cool hotel. Best location. Rooms are very small.
- 5/5
Took my 17yr old daughter for out last adolescent spring break trip. She loved the hotel. It’s NYC so we didn’t expect a huge room. Yet ours was perfect and intimate. The staff was super friendly and welcoming. Very accommodating and professional. I would just say the communication on the location of all amenities wasn’t very clear. It was like a scavenger hunt. One restaurant turned into two hosting dinner and brunch.
- 3/5
> Room: Beds on a platform one step above the floor. Digital controls. Decent shower. In room fridge would not get cold. TV signal was spotty. Sink did not drain well. Told they had filtered water and ice but the machines did not work. Besides the concern about tripping off the step, the room was fine. > Cafe: I had used their online ordering which took my order and claimed it charged my room. Upon going down to pick it up, I was told their online ordering 'doesn't work'. When I attempted to re-order breakfast they told me they were now serving lunch. When I attempted to order something from the menu, they told me they didn't have it. Each of the three mornings I tried to order they were out (drip coffee, yogurt, sandwich). > Lobby 'private guest lounge': advertised as coffee/tea/water/fruit in the morning, 6 - 10am. Each of the three mornings I went down the 'hot water' was luke warm. Only one day was there fruit. > $45 amenities charge: Supposedly for the gym and wellness classes. The first morning I was there the class was cancelled.
- 5/5
Nice clean room with a great view.
- 5/5
The open spaces in this location are urban forest feeling so you feel in touch with nature while in bustling NYC.
- 5/5
- 4/5
Clean room, hip vibe, decent location. The staff was sadly very variable. Although several people at the front desk were lovely and helpful, one bearded Scandinavian type there was surly and aggressive and shouldn’t be in the service industry. The bartender in the lobby was also completely overwhelmed. Sweet but understaffed and forgetful and stressed.
- 2/5
dont be fooled by the pics. Common area looks nice but rooms suck.
- 5/5
The only hotel I stay in nyc!! Perfect location
- 5/5
I had a wonderful stay at this hotel. The staff was welcoming, professional, and always ready to help with anything I needed. The room was clean, comfortable, and well-maintained, which made my stay very relaxing. The location was convenient and close to everything I needed. I truly appreciated the great service and attention to detail. I would definitely stay here again and highly recommend this hotel to anyone looking for a pleasant and comfortable experience.
- 5/5
I love this hotel
- 5/5
Friendly staff, rooms were very clean, location is perfect for visiting NYC. Close to subways, fun atmosphere as well.
- 5/5
Enjoyed my stay.
- 3/5
The room was clean. Although, feel it was very much they wanted the style more than actual functionality. The lights weren’t very useful whilst trying to get ready, also the sink was out of the bathroom with nowhere for towels or toiletries. Also, we were based on the 5th floor and had to sleep with ear plugs in every night because of the booming music sounds from the hotels various bars, you would think they’d have some thought to paying guests trying to get some sleep. We will not be back. Very disappointed for the price point of this hotel.
- 5/5
Great experience
- 5/5
Loved it
- 5/5
Great stay and beautiful hotel
- 5/5
Incredible shared spaces and beautiful rooms
- 5/5
Didn’t experience it
- 5/5
Cool hotel. Great design. Better than other Lower Eastside hotels (Standard, Sixty LES) by a long shot for similar rates. Awesome public areas with people hanging out, chatting, laptopping, including a great outdoor garden space.
- 1/5
Hidden fees
- 3/5
Not a hotel you can check in early to, 3pm MEANS 3pm… which is fine because check out is at 12pm anyways. The room seemed clean but didn’t smell fresh, which I didn’t like. I had to open the window to get some crisp air. Bed was super comfortable. Liked the room control for the blinds and lights. That was convenient. The view was really cool from the 14th floor but even better from the rooftop bar. Friendly staff. Elevator is confusing. To come back downstairs just press L and take the escalator.. you will save yourself the embarrassment.
- 5/5
Clean room
- 5/5
Lovely stay!
- 5/5
Great stay! Helpful staff. Breakfast and juice bar was an awesome plus. View from hotel room was beautiful. 10/10 service and care.
- 5/5
Great location. Hotel had very cool vibes, lots of great spots to take photos. Room was perfect for us, really nice layout and had nice upgrades that made it feel more luxurious. At night we went to the rooftop and grabbed a table for a few drinks. They also offer free workout classes in the morning and offered water pitchers that could be refilled. Overall great amenities and would absolutely stay here again.
- 5/5
Stayed a few times at this hotel, great vibes, rooms fantastic, and location awesome ❤️
- 5/5
Great location , amazing staff !
- 4/5
TV not plugged in, remote needed new batteries
- 5/5
Staff treated us very well! The property is beautiful as is room was very nice.
- 5/5
Roof top bar has expansive views of NYC.

perfect for the price ..
- 5/5
Amazing hotel!
- 5/5
Loved our stay
- 5/5
The location is what you’re there for. Overall very clean. Rooms are small but fine for 2
- 5/5
My favorite hotel in the LES. The staff is amazing!! Looking forward to coming back real soon!
- 2/5
The rooms are small and minimalistic, not a fan of a sink vanity right by the entrance door. The noise from the club downstairs ( base) is pretty bad and lasts till 3:00 am. There are a lot of younger crowds staying in the hotel, so it can get loud in the rooms and hallways in the night hours. No matter of how many times I tried to reduce room temperature it stayed on the same setting.
- 5/5
Staff
- 5/5
Perfect location! Loved being able to get coffee every morning! Very clean!
- 5/5
Amazing stay
- 5/5
Pretty great stay!
- 4/5
Room was clean. I love the fact that house keeping cleaned my room and made my bed after the first night. Roof top food and drinks were good but pricey. The walls are thin. Could hear loud music and laughter until after 2:30a. Overall it was a nice stay.
- 2/5
Water pressure was poor, room smelled like cigarettes (and I don’t smoke) and got worse anytime the air or heat was turned on, and bed was hard & uncomfortable. While it visually appealing, it was an uncomfortable stay. Also, my check-in was at 3p but room wasn’t ready until 5:00p.
- 5/5
Clean room, friendly staff, can’t complain !
- 5/5
Loved this hotel, will definitely stay again when I go to NYC
- 5/5
Our stay was great. Cool location right on top of F train stop. Atmospherein the hotel is relly cool. A few small things, NYC is a loud place. They have a bluetooth speaker we used to play white noise to help us sleep. This hotel doesnt have coffee in the room or complimentary in the lobby. Have to pay at their cafe for coffee. Hotel should consider getting rid of iPad check in. Does anyone like that? There were to great agents there to help, Graham and EK. Give them a raise and hire more front deak agents. Ditch the iPads. Overall, i would recommend and return to this hotel.
- 5/5
My one improvement would be the closet. People on the short side can’t reach the rods to hang my clothes.
- 1/5
Because of our troubles above, someone called Leilani who works at the hotel reached out to me and offered a discount on our next stay
- 5/5
Stay here. It’s beautify and VERY clean.
- 5/5
The breakfast was fresh and the staff was very friendly and attentive.
- 5/5
Great has everything you need especially if you like to have a drink and socialise. Staff super friendly an the cleanliness and general feel of the hotel is boss
- 5/5
Great hotel
- 3/5
Also extremely disappointed in the actual check in process. We arrived earlier in the day and inquired about early check in, to which the staff at the desk said the room was not ready yet but that they would place us on a “priority list” and give us a call when it was ready. So we stored our luggage and went to kill some time. We arrived back at 3pm, the original check in time, and were told that our room just needed to be ‘inspected’. So we sat in the lobby and waited for almost two hours for our room to be ready, until we couldn’t anymore as we had a reservation. I asked the front desk if there was an ETA on the room and they said they could not provide one, but they would call and email me once the room was available. So we stored our luggage again and left. We did not receive a call or email at all letting us know our room was ready. We were finally able to check in around 9pm when we got back to the hotel. Not being able to provide early chen in is understandable, but to promise a 3pm check in and not be able to provide a r

Amazing and beautiful stay.

Amazing
- 5/5
We loved our stay at Public, the hotel is beautiful and the staff went out of their way to help us. It’s in a great location, we were able to walk most of the trip. I do wish they had better parking options at the hotel.
- 4/5
Great location, great style, super cool, but the bathroom is somewhat uncomfortable. Very little space to put your stuff.
- 5/5
Great for a quick weekend, wish we could have partied on the rooftop
- 5/5
Great place and great vibe.

Everything 10/10

Clean hotel, fantastic views

Staff was absolutely amazing and hotel is clean and gorgeous. We enjoyed our one night.

- 4/5
The hotel was near SOHO convenient to some night spots we wanted to go to. The park across the street was good for walking the dog. The hotel seems to be a spot for 20 somethings to go to for work and socializing.
- 5/5
Great hotel! The room was very clean. The dining rooms and bars were fun, great food and drinks, great service. Awesome location. Great experience.
- 1/5
do not recommend for families
- 5/5
It’s a beautiful hotel super close to soho, local bars and restaurants. Rooms are quite small with not much storage for personal things. We everyone was super nice besides one bartender on the rooftop bar.
- 3/5
Downsides are 1) no sound proofing in rooms. We could literally hear full conversations of guests in the next room speaking at normal volume. 2) common area for guests with water and coffee not maintained. Water was empty both times I stopped by. 3) there is no where in the entire food ecosystem at the Public to get a cocktail until 5pm. 4) bathrooms in the rooms offer no privacy. Kind of a tinted or frosted glass that you can see through. Weird. Despite upsides, would not stay here again.
- 5/5
Great hotel and attention to details
- 5/5
Great atmosphere. Great facilities. Very Clean. Would stay again definitely.
- 5/5
Everyone was so professional and helpful. The property was in mint condition I can’t wait to visit again I will be staying here no question!
- 5/5
Loved everything about my stay. I just wish the room came with robes and slippers. But I absolutely loved the property and location and staff.
- 3/5
I feel like the hotel is beautiful. I love the room to a certain degree There’s some things that would change about the bathroom. The service was amazing at the front desk, but I think for the price point it was a little too expensive. I was expecting a little bit more, you can say Glam or bougies for the price.
- 5/5
The vibe is different here! Very chic! And I love the decor, lighting, special touches! They use real flowers at the table, real candles…. Little differences like that make a place, shows attention to detail. As I decor places, I see these details, others may not care… however the effort they put into this hotel is seen. It’s not your run of the mill! Book here!
- 5/5
All of the above
- 5/5
I enjoyed getting a smoothie from the lobby in the mornings
- 5/5
The hotel staff greeted us immediately as we entered the lobby. The decor was elegant, modern, and moody. The room was perfectly cozy for two and very clean. We will likely return!
- 5/5
Great hotel and close to everything. Will return
- 5/5
One of the nicest hotels I've stayed at. The pool was my daughters favorite part of the property and kept her busy in the heat.
- 1/5
Worst stay I’ve ever had in NYC. I’ve stayed at this hotel several times before and it was always good. This past time they put me in a room that was facing directly to the street, loudest room I’ve ever stayed in my life. You could hear honking from outside ALL night. I asked them to switch me and the manager switched me to a room facing the exact same way but a few floors higher up. Had the exact same problem but they said that was the only other room they could switch me to. Customer service was absolutely terrible and they seem overwhelmed anytime I spoke to them.
- 5/5
Fantastic room, staff, location and amenities, but very expensive!!
- 5/5
easy check-in. room was spotless and the hotel was in a good location.
- 5/5
Staff was nice, rooms were clean and cozy
- 5/5
The Best!
- 5/5
I like how streamline the check-in process is; the amenities that are available downstairs on the ground level; have an access to the roof without having to stand in the line so long as you can show proof that you're a hotel guest/resident; the restaurant is on point; and, having been to Peru on at least one occasion, it felt like that there - and I found out the theme was Peruvian and was even more happy with my stay. Don't be fooled by the small size of the room - everything was really well appointed and you still feel like there's space to move. Lots of natural and unnatural lighting. If you have respectful neighbors, you won't be woken up by nonsense. Overall a great experience, and because of how good it was, this will be the only hotel that I stay in when I come to New York City.
- 5/5
Courteous staff, clean room
- 4/5
it’s extremely loud Thursday, Friday and Saturday night with very young people waiting in line to go in the club, music blasting from the club. Complete chaos vibes! If you are into that you will have a great time, we were looking for more of a zen experience in the busy city. Housekeeping was great, the restaurant and coffee shop on the first floor were fantastic. All the staff was nice. We stayed in a loft room with a beautiful view. You can hear cars honking and sirens until the wee hours but the view is lovely of the city that never sleeps!
- 1/5
Check in was a nightmare. They kept telling me my room was clean but not inspected yet. Someone hadn't checked it off but it was ready for about 4 hours. Front desk didn't seem to know what was going on. For the rooms/hallways/lobby, it's a party scene. If that is what you are looking for, perfect. If you want a clean, quiet enviroment, this is not it.
- 5/5
Stayed during the snowstorm and it was lovely. Had the best brunch and lazy day
- 5/5
Great room, compact and comfortable. Excellent bars and DJs and morning yoga and a great gym.
- 3/5
The staff were courteous and welcoming! I was blindsided by the extra 200.00 charge upon checkout, which were itemized as resort fee’s and different taxes. That was not communicated to me when I checked in? I was told a hold for incidentals was standard, but the 200.00 hold would be put back in my account. The hotel itself was very nice and in a great location. However, an extra 200.00 fee would prevent me from rebooking again.
- 5/5
Great service and room was very clean
- 5/5
Excellent experience. Very nice hotel, amenities, and room. Will stay again!
- 5/5
Beautiful hotel brunch was amazing
- 5/5
Clean, beautiful room, nice view, quiet, relaxing, gorgeous lobby and restaurants
- 5/5
Staff was very friendly and helpful
- 1/5
Tash no heat
- 4/5
Staff was very nice, clean and organized
- 2/5
We came for a weekend for Valentine’s Day and it Far from everything the crowd is extremely young and we felt really out of place even though I am 21 this was not the crowd I was expecting the music at the roof and the club were really bad not a good ambiance the hotel itself is nice but the room are really small we didn’t get to use our 100$ room credit and they charged us a 45$ fee for amenities wich was not mentioned at any point and we didn’t get to use any of the « amenities » on sight check in is by yourself nobody to help you service was not good but then again the aesthetic was nice. Would I come back when I come to nyc no absolutely not. But worth a try
- 5/5
Everything was great. Friendly staff very clean and modern
- 5/5
Had an amazing stay! Room was spotless, staff were super helpful and amazing! Loved our 5 day stay
- 4/5
Clean room, cozy bed, swanky atmosphere
- 2/5
The checking in wasnt a pleasant experience, didn't even get the room I paid for. Lost an hour of my stay waiting for my reservation to be fixed on both Expedia and the hotels side.
- 5/5
first time here, enjoyed it.
- 5/5
Polite staff, beautiful rooms and amazing views we were barley here because we were in the city all day everyday but the beds were very comfortable
- 5/5
Wonderful hotel !
- 5/5
All
- 1/5
top it off, when we checked out the fire alarms were going off for no reason so all of the elevators were down and we had to carry our luggage down 11 flights of stairs and when we got to the lobby the stairs had put us inside the bar with the doors locked. Some worker in a suit then had the audacity to act like we had done something wrong instead of just unlocking the door for us. Definitely would not recommend this place despite the excellent location.
- 4/5
Nice hotel. Shower was a bit dated. Rooftop was fun
- 5/5
Great hotel - highly recommend
- 5/5
Rooms are always clean, great for 1 person and no more than a carryon suitcase. I’d recommend a higher level room for a better view when staying in a queen room. My go-to quick trip hotel!
- 5/5
Stylish an great location
- 4/5
Hotel interiors fantastic and staff very kind and helpful. Think the rooms could do with a coffee machine / kettle ! We also were upgraded to a loft with park view which was very kind, except for the fact you can hear all the traffic noise from the road.
- 5/5
gorgeous hotel would recommend
- 5/5
The hotel even had a club downstairs - it really just had everything you could look for
- 5/5
Amenities
- 1/5
Have no idea how this hotel is supposed to be highly rated. Definitely doesn’t deserve it. Restaurant wasn’t open at all, and the staff was super rude. None of what was listed in the room was actually ready and available. Horrible check in and couldn’t merge two rooms together. A broken temperature and had to move me to my room without giving me any sort of recognition. I will never stay here again or eat at any of the restaurants.
- 5/5
Great amenities and comfort for my stay. I would definitely consider them again for my next trip to NYC.
- 5/5
Everything was fine
- 5/5
Place was beautiful
- 5/5
Beautiful hotel, amazing staff and great entertainment and experience
- 5/5
very clean, excellent
- 5/5
Unexpectedly
- 5/5
Loved this hotel, great location and fantastic room. Very friendly staff
- 3/5
No elevator on the ground floor the first night. Had to use an escalator then only one elevator for the hotel. Only one elevator the second night.
- 5/5
Great staff, a lot of good options for drinks/food in the restaurant, and a very comfortable room.
- 5/5
Amazing
- 1/5
This hotel has definitely aged since I started staying here... things like window latches not working and dirty ice machine area, but none of that is a real problem for me. My problem involves their security guard pounding on my door at 9pm, stating neighboring room could smell cigarette smoke. I'm a 59-year old male with emphysema and I could smell it too, but it definitely wasn't coming from my room. I have emphysema.... I can't smoke. Door was open and guard could clearly see that me and my wife were not smoking. I mentioned that it's even getting on my clothes. Guard agreed, left cordially. Now PUBLIC has hit my credit card for $577... their smoking fee. I spoke to Dean, a manager who said he'd look into it and get back to me. Told me three times that since he was a manager, he's DEFINITELY calling back. Never called back. Although that charge is more than the room cost, it isn't worth enough to me to take this to small claims.... but I won't be back. PUBLIC also not issuing me with an invoice for this amount. Very disappointing... be warned.

Loved it!
- 5/5
Amazing place and the customer service was very professional! Will stay again
- 5/5
Modern, clean, accommodating and exceptional and friendly customer service. Popular had the greatest maître d’ who ensured my brother’s 50th birthday was memorable.
- 5/5
It’s was decent but the city view the rooms are limited
- 5/5
Perfect getaway
- 4/5
Rooms are small but that is expected in NYC. The bed was very comfortable. The floor (3d) was quite loud with street noise and party goers at night. The staff were very professional. The electrical controls in the rooms are quite baffling. We kept accidentally pressing buttons that exposed our privacy (opening main blinds) or turned on too many lights and at one point we couldn’t get the bathroom light on at all. The bathroom is surrounded by tinted glass that can be seen through partially. There is no fan in the bathroom.
- 3/5
Not quite and small
- 4/5
We had to change hotel stays at the last minute on a Saturday night and found this gem. The room and the whole vibe was appealing and comfortable. The contemporary, but warm and energetic atmosphere went well with a trip to NYC. And all of the public spaces, lobby, restaurants, etc helped make the hotel a true place to rest and rejuvenate before heading out. It lost a star from me because of the hidden fee of $45 per day. This was NOT in the Expedia description and only showed up on the receipt AFTER I made the purchase. I have seen in other comments that the hotel claims this is the fault of Expedia and not the hotel, but . . . come on . . . this is a known and solvable problem that brings down my whole perception of the business.
- 5/5
Nice clean rooms, modern hotel, great location but most of all attentive and professional staff
- 5/5
well appointed, clean room in cool hotel w/great vibe, good amenities and location
- 5/5
Excellent stay
- 5/5
Great stay, room was spacious and view was amazing. Extremely friendly staff! Beautiful hotel
- 4/5
We had a great stay overall. It’s a swanky place and a little hands off so we had to fly solo on many needs. The staff was nice when we interacted. The bed was super comfy. It may not have been the best fit for a family traveler but we are adaptable and enjoyed ourselves.
- 5/5
The room waa perfect and clean, the restaurant had great food. The hotel itself had a beautiful ambiance, we enjoyed our 1 ngt there very well.
- 5/5
Good room friendly staff
- 5/5
The design and condition of the hotel is befitting a property 5x the price.
- 2/5
Staff were rude when checking in and rolm wasnt ready for 2 hours until after I got there. Room was tiny, Lights didnt work in the room as it was totally dull and a tasteless experience. They also didnt bother to tell me I had expedia credit on the room until I asked. Hotel was noisy at night as they have a nightclub on the rooftop and was being used as a nightclub lobby every single night. Poor poor experience for a hotel that could have been decent. paid for a room with a view and ended up facing a brick wall for the duration of the stay. Book somewhere else… ‘Public’ly poor.
- 3/5
You're paying for a well designed sleeping room in a prime location. That's it. For the price do not expect any luxuries - amenities in the room are scarce, blowdrier was worn & falling apart, towels were old, and staff is scarce to find.
- 5/5
Very good
- 5/5
Nice hotel, cool vibe
- 5/5
I appreciated all the available storage around the sink for my makeup and toiletries. There’s also an actual closet space here, and not just hooks (although the rack is hung high for people who are not tall). Great water pressure in the shower in the shower, too. Location was really great; close to subway stops and a lot of food options. I’d definitely stay here again!
- 3/5
Tons of minor inconveniences and hidden charges ($45/day "all access fee" ? not sure what that is supposed to cover). It's a good price and accommodation for staying in SoHo, but you sacrifice lowkey being scammed in some places. Staff gave us late check out, only to be locked out of our room at 12pm. Had to wait downstairs for 15 min with everyone else who got locked out of their room just to get back in. I expected the rooms to be super small but the beds/sheets and sheets were super cheap and disguised by cool interior design.
- 5/5
It’s a simple and easy check in, with friendly staff working around the clock. Brilliant food and drink and the room felt very modern and fresh.
- 4/5
Great location if you are looking at a SoHo Hotel. It's a digital-native, limited-amenities hotel well suited for a single traveler. The room design gives you work space along with a nicely designed cubby hole bed setting that feels cozy within the clean lines of the room.
- 3/5
Rooms are fine, beds are comfortable, lighting in bathroom is atrocious. My biggest beef was breakfast--Monday through Friday they just have a little coffee shop kiosk. Both days of my stay they were out of everything, and I mean everything, by 9:30 am. If you love a good sit-down, hotel breakfast, avoid this place unless you're staying there on the weekends when the restaurant is open.
- 5/5
Angelo, the manager, went above and beyond to ensure that my guests and I had the ultimate best experience at the hotel each and every day.
- 5/5
Was such a great time!! Will be coming here again
- 5/5
Very nice
- 1/5
of the night without explanation. Overall experience was not good and I would never stay here again. Save your money- or spend it elsewhere.
- 2/5
Loud halls. No robe. Alarm system malfunctioning in the middle of the night
- 3/5
With the short time we were there, everything was mostly good. However, the night we had to get up at 5 for our return flight, the fire alarms went off three times between 1 and 3 am, and after calling the public service number, I received a snappy response from the lady. I understand the phone was probably blowing up about the issue, but she didn't have to be mean. Losing sleep was definitely annoying, but my partner and I can't fret too much considering unforeseen instances can occur at any time.
- 1/5
Room had a very loud AC noise, amenities were not up to par for the price of the room, the shower tiles were dirty, the rooms are tiny (we had a “great view” room), and one would think a 4 star hotel would provide hot coffee to their guests but no it was taken away every day by 8am. Strange. It’s the little things that make hotel guests feel comfortable.
- 5/5
Everything was great.
- 5/5
Staff was amazing and helpful! Very clean and a lot amenities I can’t wait to stay again
- 5/5
Excellent accommodations and location!
- 5/5
Jazmine was amazing! She took care of me with the upmost respect she was polite, kind, friendly and respectful. She really showed me amazing hospitality- unlike any other I received. This hotel has everything even yoga. I was accommodated with a crib for my baby. She truly went above and beyond especially allowing early check in. I felt truly honored to be there because of the special treatment. I will def return. This manager Jazmine was the best and highlight of my trip . Super cool.
- 5/5
Also shout out to Angelo the manager who went above and beyond to make our stay amazing. I will only stay here from now on :)
- 5/5
Staff was incredibly helpful and pleasant. Very clean and great location

Yes
- 5/5
This was one of the best hotel experiences we have ever had. The room was beautifully designed, spotless, and well-maintained. The staff was unendingly gracious - from the front desk, to the office, to housekeeping, to restaurant and bar staff. We can't wait to return!
- 5/5
Immaculate. Delicious food. Would stay again!
- 3/5
The breakfast counter food was OK but nothing great. We tried going to the rooftop bar and make a reservation and what an absolute joke that was. I asked for a table she begrudgingly got us a table. Someone came by with two waters and we sat there for 30 minutes and finally said nope and just left without anything. This pretentious, ridiculous bar needs to not even exist.
- 5/5
nice experience all around. i would definitely return.
- 5/5
Everything up to par
- 5/5
Location is great!
- 5/5
Great spot!
- 5/5
clean room & bed was so comfortable! staff was excellent!
- 4/5
Room clean, bathroom shower caulking moldy/musty smell to room. Pool table ? Our of order during busy holiday season, most toilets with no paper on 2nd floor. Staff friendly.
- 5/5
👍
- 2/5
Room was loud,
- 2/5
We arrived at check in time (3pm) and were told that our room would be ready in 10-20 minutes and that we’d get a call when it was ready. We never got the call. I went to the desk two hours later at 5pm and they said our room was still not ready. They put us in a larger room which we appreciated but the extremely long check in delay affected our plans since we needed to get into our room at 3 to get ready. The lack of updates was very frustrating.
- 5/5
Amazing
- 4/5
Light wasn’t working.
- 5/5
Beautiful… Absolutely sensational.
- 5/5
One of the best properties I have stayed.
- 3/5
The room was pretty worn out on the floors and in the shower. The check-in staff member was kind of rude after their hotel cancelled our reservation by accident, but everyone else was super nice.
- 5/5
I LOVED IT! The staff is so wonderful! The common areas are amazing!
- 5/5
The room was clean and set up nicely. The staff was very helpful and kind to us. Would stay again.
- 5/5
Nice
- 3/5
Staff was very courteous. Room was very small but clean.
- 5/5
Staff was so accommodating and super nice. Rooms were spotless, bed was comfortable. Loved it! We will regurn
- 1/5
TV did NOT work for the whole duration of my stay.
- 5/5
We have stayed here before as it is convenient to my son who lives in the east village. The self check in and check out is convenient and the property is always clean. The staff is friendly and helpful and the location is perfect for the dining and shopping we typically frequent. The rooftop view is exceptional to say the least! I do feel like it’s a bit too pricey but it is manhattan!
- 5/5
Yes
- 5/5
Room was clean and it was cozy! The only qualm is the floor boards were warped in that room, making it possible to stub my toe.
- 4/5
Staff was extremely polite and helpful. Room was spotless and very ambient. Had a minor problem with the window shade getting stuck 3/4 of the way up, but other then that it was a very beautiful hotel.
- 5/5
Good
- 5/5
Lovely service and accommodations
- 5/5
Staff is great!
- 1/5
There is no sound proofing between rooms, you can hear everything going on in the neighboring rooms, this is even worse than the club noise that thumps through the room all night.
- 5/5
Loved it
- 3/5
It’s just an ok hotel nothing special
- 2/5
The room was really tiny , the sink was clogged the whole time . But it had a pretty view .
- 3/5
Towels in bathroom were dirty and mattress was very uncomfortable
- 4/5
Room still had dirty towels left in it. Contacted front desk and their only response was I’ll leave a note. Not even an apology.
- 5/5
Room was beautiful!
- 5/5
Everything was fresh and delicious. Loved the hotel
- 3/5
The location is good, but they dont have the essentials
- 5/5
The hotel was very upscale and clean. The amenities was great and such a vibe. We absolutely love the rooftop lounge/bar the view was so amazing. Everything was just very amazing and beautiful. The only problem is housekeeping kept trying to enter our room we had to say something multiple times before they stopped trying to come in.
- 5/5
This hotel is a 10/10 and worth the price 100%. Super aesthetic and quiet overall - the staff is AMAZING as well. I love how modern and spacious our suit was. I’d stay here again a million times.
- 4/5
Great stay
- 5/5
Clean room and friendly staff
- 2/5
They need to fix the rooms our ceiling over the bed was stained and unfinished looked as if in the middle of renovating. And the room is very deceiving in the pictures they need to put more effort into the rooms like they did the rest of the hotel. The rooftop was a vibe the igloo was costly but staff was amazing definitely a vibe.
- 1/5
Did not enjoy our stay here. The room is tiny. There’s no house keeping after 3 or 4pm. Asked for blanket. They gave us mattress topper.
- 5/5
Comfortable rooms and fun amenities
- 1/5
The entire hotel feels worn and the room was definitely worn and in need of a refresh. The $45 access fee for WiFi, the bar and fitness room is just a money grab.
- 1/5
There was no room availble for me. they then cancelled my reservation and made me rebook for a higher price
- 5/5
The best hotel for me
- 4/5
The bed was wonderful. Great pillows, mattress and sheets. The room is small but fine for two people. Really appreciated the makeup mirror! Two tiny things that would make it optimal…Tissue and lotion. TP is just too thick for blowing your nose and I never bring lotion because most hotels have it in the room. We were also a bit bummed that the regular restaurant wasn’t open during the week. We would have eaten there more if it had. We were there sat thru tue and our dinner and breakfast were delicious Sat night and Sun morning. Just not the same in the others open space and no eggs…🙁 I’ll definitely give it another try tho.
- 5/5
This was an amazing stay. From the staff to the cleanliness of the entire building. I've recommended a few people to try out public if in or near new york
- 5/5
The hotel itself was beautiful. The staff was very friendly. We definitely recommend to anyone visiting nyc.
- 5/5
Efficient and was able to secure an early check in!!! Staff was wonderful! Shower was superb as was the room and restaurants.
- 5/5
Great room, easy check in, generous food credit
- 5/5
Everything was clean and the process of checking in and out was seamless. Would definitely recommend to first timers.
- 5/5
Great experience I will be back this will be my new New York hotel !!!
- 4/5
Clean room and good staff
- 1/5
To make matters worse, there was no compensation offered for the downgrade, and the way the situation was handled by staff was rude and dismissive. Mistakes happen, but how they’re handled matters and this was handled poorly from start to finish. We know and work with travel agents and will absolutely not be recommending this hotel. Based on our experience, we would not stay here again.
- 5/5
All was great. Miss room service though.
- 4/5
Clean well designed rooms
- 4/5
Overall is very excellent! But the soundproofing is relatively poor.
- 5/5
Everything was great
- 5/5
Great site
- 5/5
Great shower
- 2/5
The room, however, was the biggest disappointment and the main reason for the lower rating. I splurged on a loft room with a “view” for our five-year anniversary, but were placed on the third floor overlooking condos and a parking lot. There was a large noticeable stain on the couch, and very little separation between the bathroom/washroom and the sleeping area. The mostly translucent door/divider left little to the imagination, where you could easily see the toilet and if someone was using it. It also seemed like our room was beneath an ice machine or service area. Throughout the night, there were constant shuffling sounds and loud noises that made it difficult to fall asleep and repeatedly woke me up. This wasn’t typical city noise which I'm otherwise used to. Given the higher price point and the occasion we were celebrating, our stay was a little disappointing
- 4/5
Clean & friendly
- 5/5
Thoroughly enjoyed my stay. Excellent hotel gym. Great food and beverages everywhere. Definitely would stay again.
- 5/5
Amazing service!!!
- 5/5
Overall, great experience at this hotel from the staff, and manager. Made our stay very pleasant and memorable!
- 5/5
Amenities were high quality and staff were amazing. Would definitely recommend
- 4/5
Great view but rooms too small for my preference!! Great customer service!!
- 5/5
Love location Clean Comfy beds
- 5/5
Clean room and very helpful and kind staff.
- 1/5
There was never any room in the lobby
- 5/5
Wonderful accommodations and staff.
- 3/5
The room wasn’t very well sound proofed and we could hear the thud of the music from the bar all night - thank God for ear plugs. I wouldn’t stay here again and I wouldn’t recommend it either.
- 2/5
This property looks nothing like the pictures. Completely deceiving photos of the residential suite
- 3/5
Staff is nice and friendly, special thanks to Angelo
- 1/5
The room itself was cozy and basic. Enough compartments to store your stuff and the complementary umbrella came in useful on the rainy day I was there. However the biggest problem I had in my room was on the morning of my check out when I got up to shower and realized there was no hot water. So given my early commute it didn’t make sense to call the front desk because I had to check out anyway. When I reached downstairs that morning, there was nobody at the desk and I just checked out on the kiosk and went my way. While I was excited to visit Public I was underwhelmed by the experience it provided. While they say luxury for all, it seems that it is luxury based on what you desire. If you are into partying and a nightlife, this is for you. If you are on business and need a place to rest, you can get a lot more for less in that regard in the city. In short: Lovely hotel to visit, not so much stay.
- 3/5
The check in process could improve. That was the worst part of the trip. I did enjoy the daily cleaning service and the rooftop bar.
- 5/5
The room is perfect. Unique combination of modern tech and natural coziness.
- 4/5
Fire alarm went off.
- 5/5
The igloo launch party on the rooftop was everything. Free drinks, custom hot cocoa, and free food.
- 5/5
We will be back! It was incredible.
- 1/5
My friend and I were celebrating our 50th birthdays and had told the hotel as such on booking. On arrival there was no welcome not acknowledgement of our special occasion. We had booked a twin room which said it had double beds. The bed widths were smaller than an average double and the length was considerably shorter than a standard bed (my friend is 5ft 10 and her head and feet only just fit on the bed). The room was tiny with barely enough space for one person let alone two. The wall to the shower was made from semi opaque glass so when showering you can be seen from the bedroom. We complained about the facilities and the staff did nothing to try and resolve the situation. They merely kept stating the glass was "from Italy". We asked if they could put us in a different room or give us separate rooms as we didn't feel it is appropriate to be able to see a companion showering when in a twin room. They refused and did not offer any suitable solution so we had to find accommodation elsewhere. We did not even receive an apology for our awful experience. Would never recommend this hotel to anyone. Dreadful
- 5/5
It reminds me of a “diet” version of The Edition or 1 Hotel. Clean polished rooms. Very nice and I would stay here again.
- 5/5
I always stay here for Thanksgiving break because I’m so picky about hotels, particularly with hygiene. PUBLIC does it for me every time. It is beyond beautiful and is everything I need in a hotel and more.
- 3/5
The staff was lovely. The hotel was just vastly what we would expect from the designer
- 5/5
Yes
- 5/5
We loved the size of our room, the location was fabulous, central to everything and a great price! We will stay there again. We felt like the room was a nice size, we loved the huge windows and the bed was comfortable. Thank you for making our Thanksgiving in NYC memorable.
- 5/5
Amazing room and staff
- 5/5
convenient
- 5/5
Loved our stay - room was cozy and cool and very clean.
- 3/5
Sink drained slowly, asked for it to be fixed on day one, but the issue was never resolved. Asked for a different room because the black-out drapes where not fully retractable, but this issue wasnt resolved. Asked for the tissue box to be refilled, but this also wasn't taken care of. Free room upgrade wasnt honored.
- 5/5
Always love an Ian Schrager experience. Rooftop bathrooms are probably the best in the city. The lobby is so cozy.
- 5/5
Hotel was awesome. So much space in the lobby’s, beautiful rooftop cocktail lounge, and a great location for shops!
- 5/5
Overall, PUBLIC Hotel offers the perfect mix of style, convenience, and service. I’d definitely stay here again and highly recommend it to anyone visiting NYC.
- 2/5
This hotel feels less like a place to relax and more like a spot for people who want to party and drink until dawn.
- 5/5
Great location! So much to do in the hotel and meet people. Rooms are good and clean.
- 4/5
Beautifully looking hotel in a great location. A bit noisy.
- 2/5
The rooms are super noisy, with very little noise proofing to the street, and you'll hear the club until late into the night.
- 5/5
Room was very nice and clean , wish I could have stayed longer
- 5/5
Rooms are so nice and very clean. Just kind of small but had a great stay
- 5/5
Jasmin from the front office was AMAZING
- 5/5
Love this property. Ideal location for visiting our daughter at NYU. Love the early AM complimentary coffee area with huge windows overlooking a park. All of the common areas are really nice. The staff is excellent. It’s self check-in but there is always someone there to help. So appreciate the luggage storage, too!
- 4/5
Loved the hotel, loved that they gave us access to the bar upstairs and gave us a a hotel credit. I wish the terrace was open when we went they told us it was closed but it was still nice to see from the
- 5/5
Loved the hotel’s architecture and design!
- 5/5
Amazing location and property
- 5/5
The staff was so great. Cocktail Libby bar was A+, ambiance was super chic and the room was spotless clean.
- 3/5
The room was in good condition and the staff was courteous when available. I didn’t like the fact that staff was sparse and all the fees that were connected to checking in amenities etc. those are the things that will prevent me from using public again.

Excellent location and hotel, rooms are small but the service is top tier
- 5/5
Very nice staff. Very cool breakfast options.

clean rooms excellent bed, staff incredibly helpful and kind. only draw back was we had a two double room for two people who dont care to see each other in the bathroom. you must consider two people sharing a room might be brothret and sister or father and daughter. perhaps add tinting to the bathroom glass in those particular rooms to increase yopur patrons comfort.
- 2/5
Non-guests take over the lobby and seating downstairs.
- 3/5
Overall, the stay felt underwhelming, and I wouldn’t recommend the property, especially when there are many other hotels in NYC that offer a more comfortable and guest-focused experience.
- 2/5
Noisy, there was music until 4 am. not super convenient although the architecture was very beautiful.
- 5/5
Excellent
- 5/5
The room was small, but really nice for the space! They managed to fit in everything needed and it was stylish and comfy. The whole hotel has that vibe, stylish and comfy, and was in a great location in Manhattan.
- 1/5
There is also a night club in the basement of the hotel and if you want your room on the lower floor to be shaking, well then this is the place for you. If not maybe find another hotel.
- 4/5
Fine
- 5/5
The hotel was amazing the staff was very friendly and helpful
- 5/5
Clean room and great view omg..
- 4/5
The room was a little smaller than the pictures suggest. The bathroom wall/shower is a little see through.
- 3/5
disappointed for the price. AC in room was broken and the facilities on our floor was also broken. bed and bedding felt cheap for the amount the room cost. our bathroom door wouldn’t open all the way so we had to shimmy in each time. the glass encasing the bathroom is slightly see through, not great if multiple people are staying in the room.
- 4/5
The stay was fine, nothing memorable or can't miss about it.

The staff were very friendly and charismatic.

Great aesthetic
- 5/5
super lovely, nice are def recommend !
- 5/5
Favorite neighborhood in the city, clean rooms, and amazing lounge and garden
- 5/5
And they cleaned the room every day
- 4/5
Beautiful hotel but the “view” you see in the pictures when reserving is definitely not the view you get.
- 5/5
Always a pleasure staying at this hotel they treat me very well
- 5/5
Everything was excellent! A bit more information from staff when checking in would be even better.
- 5/5
Public spaces
- 3/5
room wasnt serviced. ceilingg in bathroom falling.
- 5/5
Unfortunately we there only 1 night. The room was extremely quiet, clean and comfortable. At night the blackout shades kept all the light out! Popular restaurant was excellent. Next time in NYC we will look to stay here.
- 4/5
The room was clean and basic. The roof terrace was incredible and the in house restaurant was excellent. The first floor lounge was full of people plugged into their laptops so there was no vibe, it felt like a workplace.
- 5/5
Pegecto!!!
- 5/5
Excellent experience all around
- 5/5
Loved the vibe of this hotel, easy walk to subway or to nearby Greenwich Village.
- 4/5
Clean room, very convenient location. Some of the amenities in my room were broken/did not work unfortunately . A bedframe sconce, charger outlets, and two out of the four curtain sheers did not open without manual manipulation.
- 5/5
I love the vibe of the hotel. The location is awesome and the public spaces are so nice. I do wish to rooms had their own mini bars, but I get that it forces you to leave your room for a snack or a drink which is probably the point.
- 3/5
Odd hotel. Designed to be streamlined and intuitive but check in is glitchy and it is self check-in at a kiosk. This seems very budget level versus this price point. Since it had issues, it just made it annoying. Everything is controlled in room using a touch pad and it was just so so. Room experience didn’t match price point and it feels like they are forcing a vibe that doesn’t fit well.

- 4/5
Check in was a bit of a mess since wifi was down. Had to go to a back room office to process our reservation payment, seemed suspicious at first. Wifi was not working the first day until resolved hotel wide. The upstairs lounge was pretentious and uninviting. We were seated and waiting for 20 minutes without service. Impossible to get a servers attention. We are an older couple and the servers entertained the young cool kids only.
- 4/5
I stayed on the 3rd floor and would not advise that if you want peace and quiet, particularly on a Friday/Saturday night, as the music noise from the lobby bar was very loud below me. I struggled to get to sleep before 2am.
- 2/5
This is a self service hotel. For the price, if you are in a bind and need anything like I did you will not have staff to help you. And once you do hunt someone down from behind the scenes they will begrudge helping you
- 5/5
Club and rooftop
- 5/5
AMAZING
- 5/5
Good location for walkable shopping and dining in the east village. The 2 bed room was great for 2 gals. Rooftop was very nice.
- 5/5
Quiet .

Impeccable hotel, staff was lovely and responsive. The rooms were spacious and well designed. I would highly recommend!

This place was amazing from the staff, amenities, atmosphere, location; etc.

I normally don’t write reviews, but I feel compelled to write one for this hotel. I normally stay at the SoHo Grand, but heard The Public was good and decided to give it a try. What a disappointment it was. There was no warmth in the hotel room. Felt like a dormitory really. The sink was not in the bathroom and the bathroom was not private. To top it off, there was a false fire alarm on our second night. It’s hard enough for me to fall asleep, and to be woken up by one wwent off and staff member kept repeating over the loudspeaker that’s it was a false alarm. For the high price they charge per night, I was shocked at how uncomfortable the whole experience was.
- 3/5
Room was very small. Pull out bed not made up. Had to request bed linens and made up myself. Walls are like paper...can hear everything said by our neighbor. There is NO closet space thats usable. The restaurant was not good...food was so bland, flavorless. We did have one dish that was very good. Its in a great location for restaurants and shopping. The rooftop bar was great. 3 stars becausebof good amenities but for the price, rooms disappointing.
- 5/5
Clean room
- 5/5
Clean room and excellent air conditioning system
- 4/5
A false fire alarm ,announcement was made 5-6 times. this AM starting @ 630AM
- 4/5
Hotel is beautiful and room design is a vibe. The location is prime across from the subway. Great shopping and dining options within 1 mile proximity of hotel. Check in staff is mid, mostly self service and early check in does not exist. They will say, you have been added to the waiting list but never call you back. So don’t bother asking and come after check in time.
- 5/5
Rooms are all that’s needed. Bijou but well thought out. Perfect for groups of single people and friends. Less so for families and probably not ideal for a romantic weekend away. Although the roof top bar has the most incredible views.
- 1/5
Will not return.
- 5/5
Just love it
- 5/5
Definitely give PUBLIC 5-well deserved stars! Love, Vic
- 5/5
Great hotel
- 2/5
I paid full price with Expedia but hotel added $ 50 per night "access fee" when I checked out. Do not go by Expedia price quote
- 2/5
It’s a party hotel. You can’t sleep without ear plugs.
- 3/5
Good room, super compact, didn’t feel like there’s enough space. Sink is in the hallway not the bathroom…
- 3/5
Just hated how thin the walls were at night. Barely could sleep from the honking and noises from the other rooms.
- 4/5
Good
- 5/5
Not quiet at all
- 5/5
The staff was very friendly and there were a lot of activities in the hotel.
- 5/5
If you wanna live the glamorous life, this is the hotel for you.
- 5/5
Affordable hotel nestled among trees
- 5/5
Great
- 3/5
The double room was small with both beds on the floor (mattress only). Not as pictured.
- 1/5
Trash
- 5/5
Around the property is very noisy
- 2/5
The 2nd-floor lounge was filthy, clearly overrun by rooftop/club visitors. Sofas were covered in stains of unknown origin, and the restroom was dirty and poorly maintained. Don’t be fooled by the fancy photos of “park-view” rooms. The next day I was moved to the correct room, but the so-called “park view” was nothing more than a tiny sliver of greenery I could barely spot by twisting my head out the window. If you don’t really care about the room or facilities, and just want a place to crash after drinking at the club all night, then maybe this hotel is for you.
- 3/5
Apart from that, the hotel is in a great location - it is nice inside. I do feel like maybe this hotel focuses more on being ‘instagram worthy’ than making it comfortable for guests.
- 3/5
Staff was prompt and courteous.
- 5/5
Great stay, super modern, amazing rooftop.
- 5/5
I was not a fan of the check in service but the staff and the hotel is very nice.
- 1/5
Filthy
- 5/5
I always stay here when I’m visiting the city for events. A short ride to areas like Brooklyn as well, if you need to cross the bridge. The crowd is always a great mix but overall very hip.
- 5/5
Always a favorite.
- 5/5
Property was amazing
- 4/5
The thumping techno party vibrating our suite all night Friday, Saturday and Sunday came as a slight surprise
- 5/5
This hotel was amazing!
- 3/5
The staff (when we could find them) were great and very kind. It was hard to track people down as it seems the hotel has attempted to utilize systems in place of staff. The hotel was a GREAT location but had more of a hostel feel vs. a hotel. Particularly at night, the nightclub vibe and presence of people in the lobby who were clearly NOT staying in the hotel was something we weren’t prepared to encounter. We did love the rooftop bar for an early evening drink and the coffee bar downstairs was great. Those were perks. Our room was extremely small and there weren’t many amenities - no lotion, no bathrobes, slippers, etc. Maybe it’s on us for not doing more research but I feel this is more of a hotel for younger/partying travelers vs. young professionals/moms like us trying to have a nice weekend away. I sadly don’t think we’d come back to this hotel however we would return for a rooftop drink!
- 2/5
The rooms and facilities are beautiful. My only pit was our room was not ready way after 3.
- 5/5
Fun property and great food. The check in was on a tablet so you didn’t have to talk to anyone (and it was quick) but I actually found it a bit impersonal for the amount of money you pay to stay there. The food was great though and room was cute.
- 2/5
We decided to stay in for the Evening and take advantage of the amenities The hotel has a roof top and a bar lounge. The host was the most rude. Looked at my family up and down and suggested we should go up to our room to change into something that would better suit her for access, really ?! We should have been wearing baggy jeans tank tops sneakers and a cap, where is the class!! by the way she had on cap and looked like a thug! It was extremely humiliating! Who says that!! This young woman had no idea who she was speaking to, I literally paid several thousand dollars to stay at this hotel for a few nights! Never again! I do have to despite of her treatment the hotel manager Patrick was vey nice and said that is not how they treat their guests. Unfortunately the young lady had already caused the damage
- 4/5
Clean but small room. Crowd is very young and rowdy.

- 5/5
all good thanks
- 5/5
The room’s fixtures and design were eco friendly and cool. The rooftop bar, out of this world and every single employee treated me like a good friend or nieighor.
- 3/5
It's advertised as a hotel with a rooftop bar and garden. But the rooftop is actually a nightclub, and the vibe is that the place is a nightclub with a hotel attached. It was quiet and clean, the bed was comfortable, and staff (when around) were pleasant and helpful. The bathroom is small and a wetroom, and it doesn't lend itself to much privacy. Decent accommodations, but not advertised accurately and would not stay again.

I am writing to express my concern regarding the “All Access Fee” that was added to my recent stay at your hotel. I stayed in room 1503 from Monday, September 1st to Friday, September 5th. We were charged nearly $50 per night for this fee, which came as a surprise since it was not clearly presented as part of the nightly rate. During our stay, we did not use the gym or any other additional amenities included in this charge, as we already hold Equinox memberships that provide us with global access to fitness facilities and classes. Had we been aware of this additional fee beforehand, we would have likely considered a different hotel. This lack of transparency feels misleading and does not reflect the level of hospitality we expected. I kindly request that you review these charges. At a minimum, I suggest incorporating such fees into the published nightly rate so that future guests are fully informed. In our case, I ask that you please consider reimbursing us for this charge or adjusting the final bill accordingly. Thank you for taking the time to review my concern. I look forward to your response.
- 4/5
Nice place for a younger crowd.
- 2/5
This stay is more for someone who is staying overnight not really for a staycation for the amenities. There is barely a proper and tasty breakfast, lunch and dinner option. The food is kinda poor quality and is premade as well. I would say that there were a lot of things missing in the room like hand stains on windows, missing chrome cast option for TV and after speaking with the hotel they never followed up.
- 2/5
Room wasn’t ready when I arrived after stated check-in time. Ok that happens. Once I got into my room about 15 minutes later, the room was dirty with a puddle of water in the middle of the floor, loose candy strewn about a closet shelf, a dirty sink, and clumps of lint on two different surfaces on opposite sides of the room. The person I spoke with was apologetic and waived a resort access fee…
- 5/5
Staff are very sweet
- 5/5
Beautifully designed hotel with possibly the best rooftop hotel bar in the city.
- 5/5
Loves the rooftop bar.
- 5/5
This is my "go-to" for staycations with my husband. Rooms are small but not cramped. We splurged on a larger room this time and were not disappointed. The rooftop is a chill spot to hang out, the restaurants are tasty, but the small portions may not be satisfying for some. The courtyard is nice when you want a little outside without wandering, but the addition of the carousel definitely detracts from the atmosphere. I'm always so surprised to see families checking in because this is really a sexy space. But I couldn't hear anything in my room, and hopefully no one could hear us!
- 5/5
Clean and cosy rooms. I would definitely recommend it.
- 5/5
Loved it. Best location, gorgeous room and lots of fun places to imbibe.
- 5/5
thanks
- 5/5
Very kind staff
- 4/5
Loved it
- 5/5
Loved this stay the rooftop is epic!!
- 5/5
Good stay
- 4/5
The beds are on 4” platforms so low to the base. The Queen rooms are very close to the window so walking around to get into your side is a bit challenging especially if older. We switched to 2 single bed option. Worked perfectly. Hotel was very accommodating. Thankyou!
- 3/5
The computers went down. We could not check in until the next day. Never had that happen with a hotel before. Manager came at 10:45pm to see why we were not checked in. Miscommunication? The staff was friendly. Good location for restaurants, vibrant area.
- 3/5
Staff couldn’t care less about the guests.
- 4/5
Good value and an amazing rooftop bar.
- 5/5
Quite and close to nice/fun places
- 5/5
From start to finish, this hotel was extremely customer focused, clean and had all the Amenities one could ask for.
- 5/5
lovely hotel. great lobby for doing work. chill vibes. great roof top bar with insane views.
- 2/5
Overall, I was disappointed in the stay.
- 5/5
Friendly and helpful staff great stay
- 5/5
Great experience all around.
- 1/5
There is no noise cancellation on the windows and staff was not accommodating when I asked to be change with a room in the back…the manager on duties actually asked me if I wanted to check out…! Finally the last two days they moved us in the back of the building The worst experience ever
- 5/5
Everything fantastic besides the WiFi was down trying to check into the hotel. Staff was very friendly and accommodating. Some people were waiting a longer time. I wish they had comped us a free drink at the bar. Roof top was very nice and cozy. Staff was super friendly. Can’t wait to return
- 5/5
This is my favorite hotel in NY. You don't have to leave the property because they have great restaurants, bars, coffee, and a club. The staff are friendly and helpful.
- 2/5
air con didn’t work for the first 3 days, even after calling front desk. engineer was rude when he came to fix and used bathroom. bed sheets were dirty and there was someone else’s previous pink star pimple patches on the side of the table after i checked in, so was not cleaned well. wifi did not work for awhile and would also disconnect frequently.
- 5/5
wonderful stay in beautiful hotel! close to everything or if you don’t want to walk the subway is super convenient to use to go anywhere!! nice staff, swank hotel room and even kinda big for nyc hotel! rooftop bar is spectacular views and good drinks and light bites!!!
- 4/5
Very walkable & safe area
- 5/5
it was unique easy to check in and out and in a great area
- 1/5
There is no private separate bathroom. No bed just mat.
- 1/5
Dark, uncomfortable hotel. Loud noise blasting throughout every public space. No water pressure in showers and it kept alternating between hot and scalding. Poor room controls and every time you turn on light the curtain goes up regardless of whether one wants it or not. A/C not working well. No quiet place for zoom calls. One of the worst hotels I have stayed in for this price. Lobby is full of bunch of kids like a wework space.
- 4/5
My only downside was all the pets, I am a dog person so I don't mind but a few of the elevators did smell.
- 5/5
I loved the service and atmosphere
- 5/5
Great experience
- 2/5
I will share this
- 5/5
Loved everything about this place!
- 5/5
It was great
- 2/5
The stay was pretty decent but I didn’t like how the room didn’t have a microwave to warm up leftovers and then our light switch button was coming apart.
- 2/5
We stayed in the kind room with a sofa bed and the room did not look as advertised in the picture. It was also dirty. The shower head had so much dirty buildup on it that some of the spouts didn’t work and the grout in the shower had mold on it. There was also hair all over the bathroom when we first checked in. Walls were dirty. Would not recommend
- 5/5
It is chic but i did not fully grasp how small the rooms would be. We didn't spend much time in the room but they are small
