I come to New York around this time annually to go to the Hip Hop Ed Conference. I choose to stay at Opera House instead of a closer hotel because of the beauty of the hotel and how nice the staff is. Zue is usually who I'm greeted by year after year and she is kind and knowledgeable. Give that lady a raise! I'll be back next year!

We were greeted at around 5:00 PM. The staff that was on shift was kind, receiving and very accommodating. We reserved two rooms and they were both exceptionally clean. The beds are comfy, the A/C works great and the water runs hot instantly. We also had the complimentary breakfast and even though it's a small selection, everything was fresh. We would greatly recommend this place and will most likely be back!!

The area is not great but the hotel was! Stephanie at the front desk was AMAZING-so helpful and kind. The rooms were clean, with daily housekeeping (which seems rare post Covid) There is a subway stop just a couple blocks down so getting around was convenient. The continental breakfast was overall basic, but good coffee. Even afternoon cookies. If I had a need to stay on the area again, would definitely stay again

I booked with this hotel because of my Melrose visit wa great .. so I figured let’s try the Opera House … First …. The Continental Breakfast was bird food … bagels Cereal and cookies … came early .. front desk person was great … then from that point on “out to lunch “ not knowledgeable of the area .. not helpful … air conditioning either Extremely cold or off .. you can’t adjust the AC ..

Fabulous stay! Highly recommend with kids or without. Clean! High water pressure. They allowed us parking on site which was a huge bonus. Great little breakfast. Outdoor rooftop for dining on DoorDash pizza.

Hidden gem. Super clean and cute hotel with really nice staff. Super simple breakfast but it is included in stay which is nice. If you are staying in the Bronx I would highly recommend this place. Only about 1.4 miles to Yankees stadium.

The property was very clean … Being near the subway made my trip worthwhile .. Although there were a few vagrants in the area .. I noted that police officers were often in the area , which made me feel safe.., The breakfast selection … staying for 7 days which limited options made me miss breakfast at the hotel

I had a wonderful stay here for three nights while attending a conference in New York. The hotel was very clean, my room was serviced every day, and the staff were consistently friendly and helpful. The location was also very convenient - the subway is just a short walk away, making it easy to get around the city. This was my first time staying in the Bronx, and I really enjoyed it. The neighborhood has its own unique character and energy that I came to appreciate during my visit. If I return to New York in the future, I would happily stay here again. Thank you for making my trip so comfortable! The only minor downside was that the air conditioner was quite loud at night. However, it was a small issue and did not significantly affect my stay.

Great place but when you outside its rough - a lot of homeless and shady characters.. If you do not mind - then its great value.

I had a pleasant stay at The Opera House Hotel. Stephanie was the main host I interacted with; she was very helpful and quick to assist with anything I needed. The entire staff was friendly and supportive. The hotel also had police officers on-site regularly, not for emergency calls, but for breaks, which helped maintain a safe environment for guests.

Great choice when in the Bronx!

Stayed here during a very important graduation trip and had a really good experience overall. The room was clean, comfortable, and the staff was friendly and accommodating. Check-in went smoothly and the hotel location worked well for getting around NYC. I especially appreciated the staff helping with timing and luggage coordination before the event. The only small issue was limited early check-in flexibility, but everything worked out well in the end.

Rooms are new, large, and spotless. Quality linens. Helpful friendly professional staff. Hotel is historic property on 149th street smack in the middle of retail commercial. Highly ethnic neighborhood. Great street food. Easy Uber pickups. My only negative is that there was no coffee in the rooms. But there was 24 hour coffee and fruit on the second floor.

The Opera House Hotel is a gem in the south Bronx. Check in was very smooth and we were given a sheet explaining how everything "works" at the hotel. I can't emphasize enough how clean the property was. I couldn't say the same for the sidewalks outside, but inside was very impressive. Even the elevators and the stairwells were spotless. We thought the elevator was a bit sluggish, but got the job done. The room was also very clean and tidy. We thought the bulbs in the lamps on either side of the bed were fairly dim, but we preferred them to the overhead light. One of the switches was very loose and you had to hold the bulb still to turn the switch. Likewise, the desklamp had no bulb in it. Had we spent more time in the room we would have probably asked about a new bulb for that fixture. Unlike most hotels we've stayed at, there were no complimentary containers of shampoo or lotion. The shower in the bathroom was very modern and clean. There were soap, shampoo, and conditioner dispensers in the shower. The closet in the room was nice and big, with hangers, but there was no hair dryer or iron/ironing board in the room. The bed was comfortable but the laarge pillows were fairly solid and not the most comfortable to us. We felt it was fairly warm in the room, even though outside temps were in the 50s and 60s. We ended up running the AC to keep the room comfortable. We were happy with our stay and will probably stay there again on our next visit to our son's family.

Shower curtain was too short and water got on bathroom floor.

This is a five star hotel in the Bronx. If you are driving, there a limited number of free gated guest parking on a first come first serve basis, which was a pleasant surprise to me since I was already prepared to pay for parking in a 3rd party garage. I loved this place.

I did not have Bfst. My room was very noisy, there was a fan going outside my window in the roof and the fridge was over heating. Alos this is not a safe location at all to stay.

I liked there was secure parking available even though it was a small parking lot, first come first serve. The room was as pictured. There was plenty of room for the 3 of us. Room was nice and clean. No hot breakfast items but fruit, cereal, toast and pastries to choose from. Hot beverages available 24/7. I will definitely stay at the Opera House when in the area again!

Nice hotel with large rooms. Decent breakfast included in room rate. Quiet. Only downside is the location. It’s sketchy, dirty and homeless and drug addicts everywhere. It’s a 4 min walk to subway to everything NYC has to offer. Never felt threatened just stating facts.

The staff was helpful and knowledgeable. They have a small parking area behind the building that is very convenient. It is a small parking area but if you are lucky enough to get a space like we did then it's perfect. I would recommend not using the subway stations nearby but Ubers are always available.

The printer in the guest area was inoperative and gentleman at front desk was non apologetic and was abrupt saying “it’s broken!” No help at all like “I am sorry, maybe I can print you boarding pass on the front desk printer” Also property is advertised as having parking but only has 5 spots on first come first served. The staff did not offer options where else we could park. We had to figure out street parking rules on our own and park in a sketchy part of the Bronx.

The hotel is kept in good conditions and it is clean. The staff was pleasant and friendly. The Room was clean, Neat and had the necessary equipment needed to have a pleasant stay. I did find that there was not enough water pressure in the bathroom toilet and shower but that may not be the hotels fault. There’s a Dunkin Donut in the same street, a few good restaurants and a nice supermarket in the corner; however, the area isn’t the safest. Overall, my stay was pleasant and fit my purpose.

The room was exactly what I needed for the evening; clean, peaceful, relatively modern and local. The staff that I encountered were very courteous and warm the room was comfortable the bed. I also appreciated that the pillows had different levels of firmness to them because I often hate hotel pillows for how soft and plushy they are. I enjoyed my day and I would stay there again. I’m a Bronx native and I’ll be honest the area where the hotel is located isn’t the nicest. But I grew up in that neighborhood so I’m used to it and not intimidated or scared. It’s great for someone who needs a local getaway or if you’re attending a Yankees game or need a cheaper place to stay outside of Manhattan. And I will always appreciate a continental breakfast.

The room was clean and well maintained, and we had no issues at all during our stay. Everything met our expectations, and the experience was comfortable and pleasant. For a future visit, I would prefer a room with a window offering a city view so I can better enjoy the New York experience. The staff was awesome.

Staff is amazing, location is great ( access or transportation to anywhere you want to get to), authentic food with in walking distance and the rooms are spacious and clean.

The hotel itself was very good. The rooms were comfortable (great beds) and clean. The bathrooms were nice but it was impossible to keep all the water in the shower due to the layout. Continental breakfast wasn't anything spectacular but wasn't bad. The layout made it hard to access when with the amount of people in the area. Had an ongoing issue with noise/smoking coming from the room next door. Staff was responsive to our complaints but never did much more than "cut it out".

We did have a minor incident with a supervisor named Abdul, whose approach was disappointing and not very customer-service oriented. However, Zue and Carlos handled the situation professionally and apologized multiple times, which helped resolve the issue. The rooms were spacious and clean, and noise from outside was minimal. The subway is just steps away, making it very convenient. While the surrounding area can feel a bit sketchy, we never experienced any issues. Overall, it was a great hotel for our quick trip, and we would stay again.

Normally I stay in a different hotel when I travel to NYC but this was by far the best experience. The Staff was amazing and it was quite and clean. A big plus was the parking on the property. Spaces were limited but I got one and it was safe and secured. I love this hotel

Les alentours de l’hôtel sont corrects, mais ce n’est pas le plus beaux coins de NY. Nous nous sentions tout de même en sécurité. Il y a des pharmacies, des fast-food, un marché, c’était parfait!

It was a lovely hotel and I would stay there again, but the room I was in directly faced a loading doc that had CONSTANT beeping and loud noise from the trucks going in and out. I would request a room that did not face that street next time.

I had been having a good stay at this hotel since last Thursday with polite and friendly staff. But today, Sunday, after deciding to have a late check-out and paying for it, I was attended to by a terrible receptionist, with an unbelievably bad mood, who seemed to take offense at asking to stay a few more hours. After paying, she gave me new keys that didn't work, and when I asked to change them, she said I had slammed the door and that's why they weren't working. After sending someone to the room, the keys still don't work, and I just want to leave because I was terribly mistreated and I will never return to this hotel.

Right next to the subway I need. My 2nd time staying at this location or the hotel next door. Would absolutely recommend either and will definitely stay again. Paid parking on Bergen Ave (3 min walk from hotel if that).

The parking is limited, we were fortunate to find one. The complementary breakfast is very limited and repeated ( provided just for make sake) The biggest issue is, the hotel surrounding. It’s. Very unsafe with druggist and drunkards around. Very rough people around. We did not find it safe at all during our stay. Only because of this reason I would never ever visit this hotel again.

Everything here at this place was excellent. I loved it. Me and my family really didn’t enjoy it. The staff is great. The only thing is while getting breakfast. The staff there was a little rude, but other than that everything else was the best. I will totally recommend it and we’ll stay there again if I visit New York in the future.

One small suggestion: it would be nice to have an omelet station at breakfast and a small table with two chairs in the room. Opera House Hotel is a nice hotel in a sketchy neighborhood. It’s attractive, clean, comfortable, affordable and safe. The staff are FANTASTIC! I can’t thank the desk staff enough for Joe warm, friendly and helpful they were. They went beyond the call of duty, even helping my friend, who’s from a different country, change his plane flight.

The Opera House has been my go to hotel in the Bronx for the last 3 years. Staff is great, and the rooms are always well kept! Highly recommend.

Guy at the front desk was great and extremely helpful. Free secure parking was very nice. Subway stop 2-3 minute walk from the hotel and 20 minutes to Time Square. You are still in the Bronx but never felt unsafe just be prepared to see the normal things associated with a major city if you’re out at night.

This is my second time at this hotel, its clean and has lots of character. The staff is great. There are lots of local Latin & Mexican options. Subway is nearby. The neighborhood is sketchy, but also full of character and characters! I have not felt unsafe, but its definitely a diamond in the rough.

Staff were nice but the amenities at this property are very bad. The water machine is turned off at 11 AM after breakfast so if you don’t have water that you have yourself you’re SOL for the evening/night. The vending machine only takes cash and coins and is outdated. The picture posted of the exterior of the property on this app is not what it looks like in person. It looks like a completely different building. Staff was nice and room was clean but I would not stay here again.

The Opera hotel is in a really unsafe neighborhood. There were homeless people, alcohol bottles all over the floor, and people under the influence of drugs just walking up to us and talking. We have 3 small children, and it was really uncomfortable. The hotel itself is great, but we didn't stay more than one night because of the location. It's unfortunate, really.

The hotel and the beds were very nice and comfy, staff were very friendly. The only thing was the area being dirty and noisy, but not to the property’s fault.

This is a hidden gem in a not so great part of town. Close to the subway tho, so it made up for it. Close to a police station so sirens were nearly constant, but this is not their fault. If youre a light sleeper, this may be an issue. Absolutely loved the hotel. Best place Ive stayed in NYC.

Love love love this hotel. Stayed for a weekend with my partner. It was a beautiful, comfortable and clean stay. The bed was super comfy and the room was spotless. Breakfast options were okay, fruit, yogurt and bagels - but the breakfast area tended to be crowded. Maybe go early if you’re planning on breakfast. The only downside of the stay was the location. Located in a very unsafe neighborhood. Trash, drugs and bums litter the sidewalk out front. Do not recommend just strolling the neighborhood. It was also very noisy from the street all night long, so if you’re a light sleeper you’re not getting much rest. Sirens went off every 3 minutes. All in all, it was a great stay within the hotel itself. Would definitely recommend a stay here, just beware of location.

Great Hotel and staff rough area but that is to be expected. Close to subway so felt safe even at night.

The Opera House Hotel was a hidden gem, and the historical images were the perfect finishing touch.

we experienced seeing people smoking out of glass pipes, amongst other drug use. Upon arrival, two women were threatening to kill each other and fighting right outside the front door. The police were getting out of the elevator when we returned from dinner one evening. Kids were running and screaming in the hallways. The free breakfast is just cheap boxed pastry, cereal and toast. No cream for Nescafé coffee machine. The room was clean enough though and spacious. It was definitely not worth more than $70 a night and I paid a lot more.

Overall we have a great time during our stay

Pretty good for the price. Breakfast is rather lacking and finishes quickly. The outside area is not particularly pretty

Completely worth the cost. Easy to park on the street nearby. Neighborhood is not full of as much stuff to do as other parts of New York. But they are easy to get to.

Checked in my room, first thing was to inspect the bed. Complete fail. Black pepper packet, hair, and what looked like blood stains( video attached) were huge. Called to report it and the person they sent laughed my face and said well it’s just the mattress cover. He called someone else and when he came he changed my room. 2nd room the bed had hair, fridge was hot, WiFi was horrible(couldn’t work) lost money the hand soap, shampoo, conditioner dispensers had mold(pictures attached). Spoke with management upon checking out, and was compensated $35 along with the excuse that the staff was new. I will not stay here again, and will also warn people through my blog and social media about this place.

Lovely room just a two minute walk from subway. I was slightly disappointed in the breakfast options (hard-boiled eggs, bread-based products, yogurt, cereals), given the glowing reviews. The 24-hour coffee/latte/hot choc machine won the day. Great stay overall.

Was a quick stay— only one night, as I was in NY for work. The check-in was quick and efficient, front desk recommended a place to eat as well. The hotel is walking distance to not only the subway but a lot of other businesses, so the location is nice. The room was clean and spacious for a NY hotel. The only “complaints” I’d add is that the toilet, not the seat, but the toilet itself kept moving when I used it. And I wish they had a hot breakfast, but the fruits were fresh, so I took some and left for work. Overall, would come back again.

We always stay here the neighborhood isn’t the best place however it’s convenient and it’s always clean with good service and Zue is excellent!

This hotel exceeded expectations! It offers great value for money in New York, and has great access to main Subway lines into the heart of the city. Impeccably clean throughout, comfortable room, and above average breakfast. A stylish building with a rich history. Saw a good mix of international guests during my stay. Yes, it's in the Bronx, so of course it has Bronx situations going on around it. Don't be alarmed! Basic common sense and you'll be fine, Highly recommended - will be my go-to for stays in NYC going forward.

Unfortunately, the neighborhood felt very unsafe—there were people openly using drugs on the street and hanging around at all hours. I didn’t feel comfortable walking outside, especially at night. It’s a shame because the hotel has potential, but the location really takes away from the overall experience. I would not stay here again

Hotel was great…we thought it was a bit closer to Manhattan but we utilized the subway to get back and forth quite easily most of the time. The neighbourhood is not nice, it’s pretty sketchy but we didn’t feel “unsafe” but I wouldn’t be hangin around outside after 11:00 PM

Very nice rooms, with high ceiiings. Cool that it used to be an opera house where Marx Brotherds, Harry Houdini and others performed. Just 2 blocks from the subway. BUT: area is not appealing, and no good dining or shopping to walk to. Also, neither of the 2 treadmills in the fitness center was working. Because of the neighborhood, would not stay here again.

Excellent hotel in a bit of a rough area, but inside, it’s an oasis. A quiet hotel, good breakfast, consistently good service.

Property was clean. Staff friendly. Area sketchy !

Staff was welcoming however I had a roach climbing the wall in the bathroom. Made it very uncomfortable and I had to put my clothes back in my luggage and made sure the food was in the fridge. Also had no body wash.

Nice Hotel a d staff…

The hotel, amenities, and staff were great. Also, close to public transportation. The street getting to the hotel is really "special", but it is New York (Bronx); not the hotel's fault. Regardless, there are some good food choices in the area. They also have private security personnel on duty in the evenings. I could stay there again.

Amazing place with good service

The property was well maintained. The room was comfortable. The housekeeping was consistent. The area around the hotel is not very comfortable as there is a lot of drug use on the streets. It would be perfect if not for that because of how close the subway is. But we wouldn’t stay here again.

The service and WiFi is bad !

I have stayed here before i will be staying here again.

We were checking in around 6:30 on a Wed. I called for help with parking and the staff directed me to the parking garage over the supermarket across the street, but it said it closes at 10 pm and cars left would be booted. The traffic was very dense and we called back and a staff member went out back of the hotel, where there are a few parking spaces. He said one was open and directed us to the parking lot behind the hotel. He was comforting to me when I had never visited the Bronx before. I was pleased for the warm welcome.

Just the area around the Hotel is sketchy

This hotel is a gem. We have stayed twice and each time everything is clean and staff are all helpful. The rooms are big and comfortable! The parking is limited and surrounding area look sketchy or unsafe but all was ok. We will stay again when in town. Thank you Opera House

Always stay here when I’m in New York

Don’t put your book in as reserve, they charge you before you arrive, their system will charge you for one night and the other half either you pay fully on cash or the card they have on file. The only thing noticed is that things will look tidy clean but don’t let that deceive you, private parking is ofc first come first served (5 parking spots). Parking was a bit of an issue, just don’t park on the yellow line. In all honesty, it’s debatable on this hotel

The area is the Bronx, and there is garbage and other city things. Inside you find peace and a great staff A clean and beautiful hotel with details and quiet. The simple breakfasts is perfect and the night time cookie treat is a great touch. I love this hotel.
