Reviews
The hotel's location is praised for its convenience and proximity to major attractions, but the rooms are consistently criticized for being small, outdated, and not as clean as expected. The lack of an elevator and limited staff availability are also frequent complaints.

- Small, outdated rooms
- Lack of cleanliness

Don't stay here; it's cheap for a NY stay, but dirty AC barely worked. The bed sheets weren't changed. Checked out immediately right after check-in.

It was a lovely convenient stay. The bathroom layout threw me off initially but got used to it. I didn't have time and unsure if it's something could of been fixed but the plumbing wasn't ideal. Had to flush from inside the toilet and shower only ran cold. The air conditioning was lovely and room in general was pretty clean. The staff were super nice.

Hotel was okay. It was very clean. It advertised flat screen TV and a hair dryer included in the room. When we got back to our room at 8:30 at night the TV didn't work and they told us. Oh yeah there's no TV. You have to somehow hook it up to your phone the next morning we realized there was no hair dryer. Very noisy location.
- 3/5
very close to the train station no elevator, had to walk up four flights of stairs. thin walls, could hear other rooms loudly.
- 1/5
The location was just ‘okay’ but in a really bad area where we just didn’t feel safe. I appreciate this hotel was always going to be very basic for the price but it was beyond dirty. I checked out after one sleepless night as was originally meant to stay for three. I was on the fourth floor (no elevator) facing the busy road and I know NY never sleeps but due to the poor windows, neither did I!

The best part about this property was the gentleman that works the front desk and the location. Tiny room but got the job done!

Muy pequeña y en la recepción ni buenos días contestaban ,las dos personas de recepción te ignoraban y siempre parecían de mal genio

Room was tiny bathroom even smaller. Paper in drawer said continental breakfast but there wasn’t any. Lots of outside noise but they did offer earplugs. It was a bed and a shower. Was clean though there wasn’t any a leak in the bathroom.

Great location! Very close to Penn Station and Madison Square Gardens. Room could use a little TLC, but met our needs for the night.
- 1/5
Nothing No Ice. No glasses. No daily housekeeping. No one to let us in when we arrived. Laundry was hung all along the hallway to dry. No staff, even at the front desk. You had a combination lock to get in the building. Absolutely the worst hotel I have ever stayed in over 50 years. I’m 82 and have stayed in hundreds all over the world.
- 4.5/5
Great location, super central in Midtown, right by Madison Square Garden and very close to the metro. Main attractions are within easy walking distance. Comfortable room and bed. Of course, being central, the area was noisy, but we slept fine. The property offers free earplugs. We were really happy with our stay. The only downside was not having a closet or drawers for our clothes; there were only three hangers, but we managed. A toilet brush was also missing and should be added since it's needed.
- 3/5
The bed was comfortable - but the room airconditioning didn't work. Quite noisy if room on street. The most negative element is the immediate vicinity. The staff are pleasant and helpful. I would not stay there again
- 2.5/5
Loved the location, and the staff was very kind! I had to wear earplugs due to the street noise, but they were free at the front desk, so that was nice! The bed wasn’t fully level, but once I was laying still I couldn’t tell.
- 1/5
My door would not lock properly. The TV did not work. The bed was a single temporary foldout bed. I had to walk up three flights of stairs. There were no kleenex's in the kleenex box. There was only luke warm water in the shower. Should I keep going on.....
- 3/5
I liked that it was close to penn station. The bed was comfortable. There was an AC in the room The room was a bit groused and so was the bathroom the sink was in the room part and not the bathroom
- 3.5/5
Excellent location! The hotel does not have elevators and there is no microwave and fridge in the room.
- 1/5
I am going to try and warn you all to never book this hotel! It was absolutely terrible! The area was terrible, the room was terrible, the cleanliness was terrible! I have been to NYC and have stayed at some inexpensive hotels and this one was by far the worst! The sheets were gross, my daughter was scared to sleep on them. The towels were dirty, thy dried them hanging in the hallways and didn’t even use a dryer! The area is gross and dirty and didn’t feel safe at all! So this is a warning to all who are considering this establishment! Don’t do it!!!!

I was very pleasantly surprised with Midtown West, however, and would recommend it whole-heartedly. Rooms appear recently fixed up and painted. Great shower and very comfortable bed. Location is basically next door to Madison Square Garden and Penn Station. No elevator, but that is only a problem if you don't pack properly (i.e. trying to bring everything you own). And the staff was truly caring and attentive; in fact, at my initial check-in there was a snafu and they put me in a room that wasn't cleaned. Very quickly the manager himself personally attended to the issue, and moved me to a wonderful and clean room. While it would be hard to call it 'inexpensive', it was defintiely cheaper than any other choice on the Isle of Manhattan. I was happy to find them and hope to stay there again.

This hotel is horrible. There is the nastiest smell permeating everywhere, it’s not clean and (no fault of the hotel of course) but super noisy. I was meant to be staying 2 nights and booked an alternative: I had no choice on the 1st night. But no way I was gong to be there for 2.

This is an awful hotel. The door wouldn't lock, the bed was broken, the sink was leaking and apparently I should pay for that

Old property not well care for. Asked for an iron and was given one which does not work. Room and bathroom totally outdated and not very clean. Air conditioner did not cool very well. Lots of noise from the street throughout the night.

Room was dirty when I arrived at 9PM. Wasn't sure if the attendant, who then made up the bed ,was using clean sheets or just dirty folded sheets. Wifi was so slow you couldn't use it. Surrounding area was sketchy at best.

Location. 2 mins to Moynihan Hall Penn Station and very close to Madison Square Garden. Kind, helpful staff. This is a tough one because you kinda get what you pay for and it’s all relative when other rooms in the closest hotels are twice the price by comparison. So, there’s a reason it’s ‘cheap’. The room was very, very noisy being on a busy street corner in the city that never sleeps. Definitely needed the noise cancelling headphones to sleep. There were a lot of steep stairs to get to the room. It was small but adequate for one person and it was very clean. The stairs and common areas not so much.

Toilet flush did not work. Requested for another room, were told that they are completely sold out. Toilet was temporarily fixed, but broke down again within a few hours. Requested for refund, was told that the booking was non-refundable. Checked out after spending 2 horrible nights, and moved in elsewhere. The hotel conveniently gobbled up the tariff for all 6 nights. Will never come back again and spoil my vacation. Others, reserve this facility at your own peril.

Manager’s Reception is what is advertised.. guy at front desk had no clue what that even was! He was very rude! No elevator & we were on 4th floor!! Lights in room come on when you pass constantly!!! Window wouldn’t stay open! No daily room cleaning or fresh towels! Towels were hanging all over the place on banisters to dry… umm ever hear of a dryer??? Sooo awful!!! Perhaps the worst hotel experience to date. I arrived to a drunk man watching the door and a handwritten sign that said, "Front desk will be back shortly pls call…for urgent help." Nobody showed up despite the drunk man yelling, "Hellllo Customer Service you have a customer," and other confusing issues. At no point was I ever met by a staffer. I took video and photos and left. I contacted Hotels.com who could not tell me if the hotel would charge me or cancel because they also were unable to reach the front desk. I am 6'3" tall and felt genuinely unsafe at this hotel.

It’s a clean and safe room in an excellent area. I recommend ear plugs in general, it’s NYC. The staff was responsive when we called regarding the rooms being hot (it was early, early Spring when we stayed and the weather was warmer than expected). The heat is controlled by the building, not by your room, so you do have to call the front desk if your room is too hot. Opening the window helped as well, but again, NYC, but if you can handle the noise, it’s so worth it.

this is not a legit 3 star hotel - it is better to be said as a nice one star, or fair two star hotel. location is good, but sanitary is of huge issue. towels were dried in public, open area where guests would come and pass by and on the places where people would touch with hands. not a fan of this.

When my daugther and I checked in they offered an early checkin for $50 and the website states $25. So we left our lounge in lobby by front desk so we could walk around the city. When we returned our lounge was there(thank you for that) and there was no elevator so we had to walk up 3 flights of stairs after walking around Central Park which was rough. Got to room and it was very very small my daughter and I couldn't be together in the same area. there was only like maybe 2 foot around the bed and that was the room. The floor was dirty and air conditioner barely blow out cool air. Mind you it was 90 degree that day. The faucet on the tiny sink was broke. We had 2 towels and 2 hand towels the whole stay. Didn't have any wash clothes for the four days. Ran out of towel paper and had to use kleenex. i asked for wash clothes and toilet paper and didn't receive any wash clothes the entire say and finally got toilet paper the day before we was going to leave. Also every time we came back to our room the card key didn't work and would have to go back down the stairs and have them redo the card. That hotel was not worth $545.08 and i wish we would of gotten a different hotel but the Knicks had a game so it was hard finding a different one. So I would like some money back on our stay and refunded to our card!!!!

Great location. The people that work at Midtown West are very friendly. The room is super basic. Sheets and towels had some stains. The room is great for sleeping, not somewhere to spend any time. Easy access and checkin was fast an easy.

The only good thing about this property is its location, it’s one block from Penn Station, various subway lines and MGS. Other than that the place is a dump, non existent lobby, elevator, etc….. My room was tiny with an even tinier bathroom (I have never seen a shower and sink as the one I had in my bathroom) all of the pictures on the website are very misleading and old. I am not staying here again even if they paid me!

Place was friendly and in a good spot near Penn station, definitely loud with the traffic but that’s New York. No water pressure in the shower lol so I used the sink to wet my hair. Other than that was pretty good. Small room but why sit in your room while in the big city. Would come back for sure if the shower was fixed. Might have just been my room,406.

The owner was at the desk when we checked in. He was kind and offered great parking advice. The location of the hotel was ideal for our traveling purposes. Our room was filthy and we did not have a working bathroom. The toilet didn't flush regularly. The sink was clogged during our entire stay. The shower dripped all night long and water leaked out of it so the floor was soaking wet all weekend. We didn't even shower all weekend because of the bathroom issues, which was gross. We reported the issues to a staff member and nothing was done to resolve the issue.

Great location but I’ve never stayed in a worse place in my life. Key only worked half the time (and I only tried to use it a few times). Room was good I didn't mind the room. Went to go site seeing came back to the room seen a roach okay it's a bug .Then after a while saw baby roaches then I decided to move the bed more dead roaches whoever is cleaning the rooms does a fast job to ''make it look presentable'' old candy wrappers and noise cancelling ear buds on the floor which tells me the room isn't properly clean (which I know I am an executive housekeeper).Go downstairs to tell management my finding she tells me she needs proof so now I had to go back upstairs take pictures look for roaches. Take pictures come back downstairs and she says well this is NYC of course you going to see bugs. Like umm I'm from NYC and didn't grow around ''bugs'' told me she isn't able to give me another room they are all booked. The only room she had available was a twin room. So, I took it. The worker said the manager comes in at 10am.Next morning comes I call downstairs to ask for the manager of course she isn't available got hanged up on by Mohammad. Came downstairs with my partner to voice my concerns before I could voice them, he asked me can you tell me what room you're staying in I said can I speak to your manager he said she isn't available please tell me the room. Told him he treated me like a was a prostitute. in which I thought was so crazy Very rude staff no manager available. Don't have fresh towels rags nothing very rude staff. Don't waste your money this place should be shut down. DIRTY!

the room had no heat in New Yorks coldest days. The fron desk woman had an attitude and offered me an extra blanket. She spoke to me like I should get over it and take a blanket. I started filming our interaction, and she became upset. Finally offered to refund my payment. which I dint trust but left and found another hotel. Also when I checked the place looked sketchy, so i jokingly said I hope no bed bugs or roaches. She replied no bed bugs but can't gua rantee no roaches. Should be removed from hotels.com

The first night they put me in a room that smelled really bad, and they didn’t want to change me, until they find out they were painting that floor, but they still made me sleep there for one night, the second room was okay but the toilet wasn’t flushing, and then my parent in the other room got a cleaning without their permission and they lost their AirPods that were on the room.

Much bigger than expected! Three of us fit comfortably in two beds - one twin and one full. Heat was great . It was a little too warm for me but I couldn’t change the temperature. The bedding was sparkling clean and looked relatively new. The towels were white and clean …. No stains. Great find right in midtown!

Older hotel. Room was exactly what I needed for just me, but the bed was terribly uncomfortable. Cute for what it is. There is no elevator, so be sure to pay attention to that when booking, as I didn’t. I’m in NYC a couple times a year, and this will probably be my go-to place as it’s within walking distance to pretty much everything.

Unfortunately, the heat was on full blast in the room and we had no control over it in the room. The bathroom was so small you couldn’t even stand in front of the sink. Convenient location, but not a great place.

Everything was perfect for seeing a show at MSG. If city noise will keep you up at night, this isnt the spot for you. Its near an red light/intersection which drivers frequently blow their horns at. Basically NYC drivers. 😉
- 4/5
Incredible location especially if you are taking Amtrak! Very basic, but clean and the staff is nice.

This facility is clean and well kept. The staff was friendly. The location was great. There are a lot of restaurants near. A lot of sights are easily walked to. Taxis are available at Madison Square Gardens.

Clean room. Location fantastic. Great if you are going to MSG for an event.

Staff were nice. Bed was very uncomfortable, room & bathroom was tiny, lots of street noise, automatic bathroom lite & fan was very loud & annoying during the nite (we put tape on it)!
- 4/5
Muy limpio, muy bueno, muy bien ubicado
- 3/5
The room was very very small but that's OK. There just wasn't much room to put things down. There were some hooks on the wall for clothing. The bathroom lights were out of order so I took my shower with cellphone flashlight on the toilet tank. The TV worked fine and the bed was very comfortable.
- 4/5
Clean room , good size , staff was accommodating , however the bathroom is very small but do able . There is a lot of noise but it’s in the city and to be expected . The hotel provides earplugs which work really well to cancel the noise . There’s no elevator as described in the hotel description so I was lucky to be placed right on 2nd floor. Hats off to the kind receptionists. It’s a close commute to penn station and has groceries and delis nearby for your convenience. Will definitely stay again .
- 2/5
Ac didn’t want to turn on. Then when it did it wasn’t very helpful
- 4/5
Safe, small but decent sized room. Very basic. I did not enjoy the walk up; requested and was promised a second floor room but when I got there, I was assigned a third floor room and I didn’t mention it or complain. Very convenient location with buses and trains running along Eighth Avenue. Sheets and shower curtain did not smell completely fresh, but was not overly offensive.
- 5/5
Room was good sized, and location is prime for subway, penn station, Madison square garden, and time square. Walk to Rockefeller center was twenty minutes, but walk through time square and the walk feels like nothing. Can’t brag about the location enough. Double door for security, and owner was so nice. There is no elevator so don’t over pack, but room was clean and bathroom was awesome size for New York
- 2/5
This is not a very nice hotel.
- 3/5
Basic and clean. Ideal if taking train from Penn Station. Deli accoss the street is legit for Sandwhiches and drinks. Staff helpful and building secure. Would stay again when traveling for one overnight. Single bed rooms a plus. Thanks you for the no hassle stay.
- 4/5
Bed was comfy shower was great the staff were good but most of all the location was excellent only thing i did not like was the light as it was on a timer it was a nuisance
- 4/5
It suited our needs well. We didn’t need fancy amenities and didn’t mind climbing three flights of stairs, because we only stayed one night. The room, beds, and bathroom were clean and comfortable. The sink was stopped up, and we had to adjust the fill hose in the toilet tank to get it to fill, but those were easy fixes. Very close to our bus stop, and they let us keep our luggage there before check in and after check out.
- 1/5

We used this as a base and the hotel room was standard a room and bathroom. Clean and tidy and didnt take the 200 dollar deposit for damage as it says it will. Idealy location for time square down town and up town using the subways. Very close to the subways. Staff was always friendly and able to help us when ever needed. We stayed in room 301 at the side of the hotel. You can hear the traffic horns but thsts just standard for new york everyone horns all at once. Bathroom was a decent size and shower was ok. Hairdryer in the room was decent for a hotel hairdryer as i always struggle with having hair extensions in but the hairdryer was really good. Overall experience was really good would defo stay again

The room didn't look like anything in the photos, hotel was run down, the first room they gave us was too hot inside, they moved us to a different room on a higher floor, there was no elevator. It was the worst hotel we've ever stayed in Manhattan and we've come at least 3 dozen times. I feel robbed of my money
- 3/5
Not sure I would stay here again in the winter. My room was really cold and there was no way of turning the heating up or on. The room was very clean and the shower had plenty of hot water and good water pressure. The earplugs made sure I got a good night's sleep, and the hotel was well located. But I'm glad I brought long underwear, as I had to sleep in it--and this was the first week of December.
- 1/5
1/4 roll toilet paper..sink so small water went everywhere..linen smelled like moth balls..4am front desk had a prolonged loud conversation with a male who used profanity which my 15 yr old granddaughter could hear through the wall..very loud outside window..hot in room..we left the next day
- 3/5
The room itself was small but clean; the bed took up most of the room space. This is a budget hotel, no frills at all, no closet, refrigerator, or safe to lock up your smaller items. The good points are that the room & bathroom were clean. The hotel is located in Midtown, an easy walk to Madison Square Garden or Penn Station, and Koreatown, etc. The downside is that it is located on a busy street, and my room was noisy. They offer free earplugs at check-in. I used them and slept fine.

Front desk clerk was rude. Refused to give our receipt saying to come back for it when we checked our, knowing they're should be no one at the front desk when we left. No fridge, bathroom fan exhaust was noisy. Entrance was sketchy. No elevator.
- 5/5
Aica was exceptionally friendly and helpfull. Because of her excellent service, my stay was perfect.
- 5/5
Short walk to Times Square, staff very helpful, clean.
- 3/5
It was fine. You get what you paid for for it being in nyc. All the reviews are correct. Loud is an understatement. But it’s doable for a night.
- 1/5
The issues didn't end there. On the second day of my stay, my room wasn’t serviced at all while I was out. I thought maybe they had missed me, but then on the last evening, I found a roach in the room. At that point, I was just done. I understand this hotel is on the cheaper side compared to others in the area, and sometimes you get what you pay for, but honestly, this experience was over the top. I don’t mind basic accommodations, but charging extra for early check-in and having cleanliness issues is something I can’t overlook. Definitely won’t be returning.
- 5/5
The neighborhood is sketchy but the stay was ok.
- 2/5
Crappy room, no amenities, pillowcase was too small for the size of the pillow, there is central heat throughout the building which cannot be adjusted and when asjed was told to put the A/C on, in mid-November! Nothing what was advertised on Expedia.
- 3/5
The staff was fine. This is a very strange hotel. The picture of the front is not accurate. The front door looks like you’re entering the warehouse and not a hotel. The lobby is very tiny. There’s no elevator and the room was extremely small and the bathroom was crazy small but the location was great if you want to be near Penn Station
- 1/5
The room I booked was absolutely disgusting! Stained sheets, toilet didnt flush, and COCKROACHES! EVERYTHING had stains and was dirty. The shampo, conditioner, and lotion all expired in 2024. They did give us another room and the staff was kind, but it wasnt much better. Never again will i stay here.
- 2/5
The room was so small, there was hardly any space to move about. The bathroom was worse. There was no elevator, so walking up and down the stairs was extremely difficult for me , as I was wearing knee braces. The staff was friendly but when I arrived, there was no one at the counter. This meant I had to wait outside, since you can't go in unless you already have your room key.
- 4/5
The room is small, so keep that in mind. That did not affect our stay though. Kind of hard to move around in the bathroom and see yourself in the mirror, so I would get ready out in the main room and use the body mirror instead. One night we got back and our room keys weren't working. A quick call to the front desk & a quick reactivation solved that problem in less than 2 minutes! There are no elevators, so be prepared to bring your luggage up a maximum of 4 flights of stairs! Overall really great stay. Very very convenient location next to Penn Station, MSG, Empire State Building, Times Square, and MORE! Would recommend!
- 2/5
Bed sheets dirty
- 3/5
Room was clean and staff helpful. Room was the smallest I’ve ever been in, small bathroom and tiny sink. No dresser or closet at all so we had to put our suitcase on the bed to get clothes out, then close it and put on the floor to use the bed. Very noisy (city) environment. No elevator and we were on the fourth floor. Would not book here again but we made the nexts of it.
- 4/5
It’s good if you want to be close to the action but not too close to where it’s right out the door. It’s still quite loud but the complimentary ear plugs help. The pictures on here don’t really look like what it actually does but similar. Semi clean, very basic stay and small rooms. The owner (?) was nice, he’d say hi/goodnight when I’d come in. I’d probably stay here again for the price. Would appreciate a little fridge and microwave though!
- 4/5
Room was small ,but, clean. Bed was very comfortable. The price was good
- 2/5
The room was cold. The heating system was not working. The TV did not work. The shower leaked all over the bathroom floor and dripped all night. The stopper in the back of the toilet didn’t seal properly preventing the toilet from filling. I had to jiggle it to get it to seat properly after each flush.
- 2/5
The lady tried to give me a janky room until I asked for a better one. I've been to much better hotel for less than what i paid to stay here.
- 1/5

Basic accommodations in a prime location, and would stay again. Note: no elevator and can be a bit loud near a main street.
- 2/5
My room wasn't cleaned, and towels/linens weren't changed during my stay. Disappointing experience, especially given the cost.
- 1/5
Communication with a property was poor, and even after multiple attempts from expedia, the hotel refused to offer any kind of refund or reasonable solution. Expedia, customer service did their best to help button were unable to obtain approval from the hotel for a refund. They offered seventy dollars in one key cash, which I appreciate, but it doesn't reflect the overall frustration and inconvenience This caused. I wouldn't recommend this property based on my experience. It felt unprofessional, unresponsive, and not representative of what was advertised.

- 2/5
The location was convenient, but the photos online are not accurate. The property is quite dated, and the service was mediocre and it was very loud outside, there’s no noise insulation at all.
- 1/5
The hotel is a mess. Checked me into a room that had shoe boxes all over the floor. Was moved upstairs. Room is dirty, smells of BO, loud, and weird red lighting that made me feel like I was in a red light district. The hotel however was cheap for the location. It works if you're exhausted and you can disconnect from the surroundings. I would never stay here again but it provided a bed I needed for a quick trip.
- 5/5
This place is amazing. If you’ve only ever traveled in US and Canada and think you need 300sq ft to sleep this is not for you. If stairs are a deal breaking not for you. Now if you’ve left North America where every hotel is 120 sq ft you will LOVE THIS PLACE. Safe, 2 minutes from Penn Station and Garden. Slept THERE. NOT vacationed there. For 3 days. $190. If you’re a solo world traveler book this place ASAP.
- 3/5
The hotel is well located but it was loud at night.
- 3/5
Room was basic and clean. Shower curtain and bar were removed 2nd day for cleaning and then never returned. Phone in room did not work. Phone listed on hotels.com out of service. Found other line from the hotel calling me previously and tried that but was unable to get through consistently from 8:30am-9:30am
- 5/5
Room was small but clean. Was on 3rd of four floors. No elevator if you're mobility-impaired.
- 1/5
Terrible Stay!!!! No elevators in the hotel, i had to take the stairs.. I was put on the 4th Floor. I am 6'2 and the room was extremely small. The vents in the room were rusted. I was scheduled to stay for 4 nights, i wanted a refund for the other 3 days and I was willing to pay for the 1st night. The hotel would not refund me for my 3 nights. Also, i contacted Hotels.com Gold Team and they wouldn't assist me with my refund. They stated there was nothing they could do. I am VERY DISSAPPOINTED in Hotel.com for not assisting me with my refund and for recommending this hotel. I would like a complete redund or a Hotels.com voucher. I am a regular loyal customer, but i am very disappointed in Hotel.com for not helping me as there are plenty of other hotel providers out there to choose from!!!!!
- 3/5
very small, security door bolt did not lock, terrible noise all night. close to penn train station
- 2/5
Rooms are tiny, our sink was next to our bed and not in the bathroom. We had nowhere to put away our clothes, no closet or wardrobe of any kind. There is no elevator in this hotel either, luckily we were on the 3rd floor but something to keep in mind. The staff is nice.
- 2/5
Malo, no sé bueno.
- 3/5
Hotel is BASIC. A bed for an evening or 2, which was our stay, 2 nights. Clean, basic. Bed was very comfy, firm. No TV service in room. The outside noise was undeniable. They do offer earplugs. We drowned out the outside noise with a sleep machine, but be warned. Walking distance to everything. The train station, subway, coffee, 17 min walk to Times Square & theaters. We read the reviews before booking & they are pretty accurate. Thing's like no TV or outside noise, didn't bother us, bc we were prepared. Just needed a place to sleep after busy nyc days.
- 1/5
I don't know why this is being marketed as a hotel. It's not. It's a hostel or pension. Note that there is no elevator or staff. That should be stated in the listing. The toilet in my room didn't work and then flooded all over the room. I called the number taped to the front desk (no reception) and they said they'd send someone to fix it, but they never did and I finally mopped up the water with some towels and went to sleep. The shower didn't have any hot water but they also did nothing about that when I called. I tried to tell someone at check out, but there wasn't anyone there to tell and no one answered the phone this time. A misleading and terrible experience. I relied on the ratings on this sight when booking and was grossly mislead. I can only imagine that the high reviews are AI bots, because no sane person would rate this more than 1 star.
- 1/5
Awful. Staff audibly laughing and joking together instead of checking in customers. Tried checking in at 4, an hour after check in, was told to wait 15 minutes, then told the room is in disrepair and they need “more time.” Was offered to leave our bags and “just walk around the city,” was offered an extended check out time the next day on a one evening stay, I was the one that had to say just give us another room. We were then put in a room with one bed, half a roll of toilet paper and no towels for showering. Had to sleep on the floor. Nothing cleaned. Would have been better just sleeping in the train station.
- 1/5
The room felt more like a storage closet than a hotel room. No towels, a broken bed, and no staff at reception. I would never stay here again.
- 4/5
Not a place to hang out in, but the bed was comfy and no one travels to NYC to just hang out in a hotel room . I got the experience of a New Yorker living in a studio apartment.
- 3/5
Good location and clean but very tiny room! Bed had be up against the wall and so one of us had to crawl over the other. Tiniest bathroom I’ve ever seen. Nice employees.
- 5/5
- 5/5
Tiny room —as advertised No elevator—my bad, I missed that fact when booking
- 2/5
The room was clean and the bedding adequate. Due to Amtrak being late, we arrived around midnight and checked out the next day. Location was excellent being about 1 block from Penn Station so we could walk there. There was no elevator and our room was on the 4th floor. I am 79 and husband a little younger so getting our luggage to our room took several difficult trips up the stairs. The room was very tine - barely enough room to walk around 2 sides of the bed. Tiny little sink in the room and a tiny bathroom. Not a glass in the room making it difficult to take our medication. In all fairness, it was much cheaper than any other hotels in the area, but we would not stay there again.
- 4/5
If you you mind about street noise they give you ear plugs, remember this is NYC. Overall it’s an ok hotel to come in a budget.
- 4/5
Location at 30th Str and 8th Ave had easy access to Amtrak station (NYP) and Penn subway station, plus multple bus stops and Flixbus. Easy walk to Citibike docking station, shops and eateries. Centrally located in Manhatten.
- 3/5
I dont feel safe strolling during nighttime.
- 3/5
Close proximity to a lot of things, room was small and had issues. Someone entered our room to fix our sink without our permission. Front desk was nice. No stairs
- 1/5
My friend had bed bug bites after one of our nights. We found what we believe to be bug casings in the bed. We brought it to the hotel staff and the woman said she’d bring it up with the manager. She assured us that the hotel was just treated for bed bugs two weeks prior. The next person offered us a new room, which we took, and told us all we could do is file a complaint with Expedia. The hotel wifi was also very spotty in both of the rooms we were in.
- 4/5
Clean, comfortable room. A/C works great, nice water pressure in the (tiny) shower. Street noise a bit loud and you have to walk around the neighborhood homeless guy to get in the door, but what can you expect from NYC? I never felt unsafe, though some people with limited experience with New York might find the neighborhood a bit sketchy. Great deli across the street for breakfast. Right next to Madison Square Garden and Penn Station. 12 short blocks to Times Square, very convenient to theater district. Travelers who require an elevator should not stay here, as there is none. This hotel met all of my requirements as a solo traveler on a budget. Clean, convenient, and comfortable. It reminded me of the one and two star hotels I stayed at in Europe twenty years ago. I'd stay there again for sure.
- 2/5
Good location near Penn Station but dirty, noisy, and weird vibes.
- 1/5
There is NO elevator in a 3 story hotel. Major drawback. There is no ice machine. The facade pictured is misleading. No lobby to speak of. Horrible beds, few electrical outlets. A real hole in the wall. Towels were actually good, but pillows were crappy.

It stinted of pee in the room
- 5/5
The staff there are super nice! Highly recommend this place!
- 3/5
Had to leave. Area was noisy and not a clean area. Had to check out early. Staff friendly enough and made effort to clean.

Midtown West Hotel is pretty much the least expensive accommodation you're going to find in Manhattan that isn't a hostel or a unit with a shared bathroom. Great location, just a couple blocks from MSG and the subway. They don't include amenities like an in-room safe or temperature control, but the room has a bathroom, the bed is comfortable enough, and again the location is just absolutely excellent.
- 2/5
The sheets were stained, the room was extremely tiny, no elevator, homeless hanging out outside.
- 2/5
The bed was comfortable but that's about it.
- 1/5
very poor. I would not recommend this hotel.
- 1/5
Very service, cleanliness is terrible. Tons of flies in the room. Don’t recommend at all!
- 3/5
Good spot when I am seeing a show at MSG. This is a totally no frills hotel. You get what you pay for.
- 3/5
It's impossible to sleep in the room because of the noise. I had to ask for a towel to dry myself, and the towel I used to dry my feet after getting out of the bathtub was dirty.
- 2/5
The place has thin walls, thin towels , and no elevator. The room smelled of bleach But it was under &200 during a very busy week. It’s worth about half that price
- 4/5
For the excellent location and price, i was 100% satisfied. Those 4 flights of syairs helped me get an all-time high steps/day score. Great time!
- 1/5
Staff was friendly but the room was extremely tiny. Could barely walk in it. Nothing like shown in the pictures. Would not recommend to anyone.
- 1/5
We had a very bad experience as our belongings was tampered with and all our belongings removed from our room by the staff while out exploring newyork city-and the rooms are falling apart no lights and space to move around in the room and staff is extremely disrespectful. Would not wish this place on anyone.
- 5/5
I really like how quite it is, it’s convenient to find store such as food, snacks and the list goes on. Room a little small but it’s ok so far
- 1/5
Was assigned a room that another person was already using and wasn't clean by any measure
- 3/5
Clean sheets and warm shower. What more can you want? The towels are super small and you only get one. Things in the room were broken. It is clean and convenient. The area around the hotel is mostly safe feeling. Just steps away from Penn station. Staff was helpful bc my blow dryer was broken. Window unit AC. Would stay again. It is a WALK UP! Just be aware.
- 2/5
I would not stay here again.
- 2/5
We also noticed a cockroach in the bathroom.
- 3/5
Room to small not like the pictures key cards wouldn't work kept getting locked out of our room. People not very friendly
- 5/5
Room was small but location excellent right next to penn station
- 3/5
It would have been nice it there is enough space to open suitcases and bags. Unfortunately, we were staying at the ground level, one of staff smokes right near the front door. The room sometimes smelled of smoke. When I was opening the front door, I saw someone peeing near the accommodation.
- 5/5
Not to close to the street people that work there are so nice and work with you
- 1/5
The only good thing about this hotel is the location. Room was dirty. There was a wet used face towel in the bathroom. I requested stay over cleaning service on my second day but never received. The front desk looks like a convenience store with a lot of posters on the wall and not very clean.
- 1/5
The property was very old and pretty damn expensive at the price. The washroom was too smelly. The room had a mini wall AC which was just beside the bed. Would not recommend staying here. Spoilt our stay in New York. Honestly a one star property.
- 3/5
Very close to train station .
- 4/5
One minute walk away from Madison Square Garden! Very convenient for my concert that I attended especially for walking in heels. Room and bathroom are small but just enough so that we could get ready and sleep. AC kept us nice and cool. Would stay again if I ever need to go to MSG again.
- 5/5
There was no sink in the bathroom. The sink was in the living room, which made no sense, especially with how much I spent on the room. I expected a little bit more space..
- 5/5
Everything I needed at a fair price for nyc. It was close to what I needed to get to also
- 5/5
Liked ground floor. Very clean!
- 5/5
Very convenient and perfect for us but was just a room. The night supervisor took great care of us! Would go again!
- 5/5
When we found the hotel, we weren't sure we weren in the right place. The door and entrance is literally just a door. Doesn't look like a hotel. The woman at the front desk when we tried to check in early, was not very friendly. Just blah. The cost of checking in early is different when you arrive than what their site shows. $25 p/hr early. When we came back to check in, the man at the desk was super friendly and helpful. Overall, the hotel is old and small. Our room was tiny, but clean. All we needed for 1 night. The noise outside is loud, but you are in the city. They offer complimentary earplugs at the front desk. The only thing I wasn't happy with was that there were NO DEADBOLTS or CHAINS on the inside of our door. We were only 2 blocks from MSG where we were going for a concert. Super easy walk. Overall, nothing wrong with our stay.
- 4/5
Property is nice..But room is quiet small and they dont drinking water bottles in the room.
- 2/5
Stayed here for the location.
- 2/5
Walk up, no elevator. On a busy street, not a great area, so kind of noisy. Bathroom is so small you literally have to stand to the side of the sink to use it. Place felt dingy and unsafe, but the room itself was clean and the bed was comfortable. Soap and lotion provided, but no shampoo or conditioner. No coffee in the room or anything. Very bare bones; if you just need a bed to sleep in for a night it's okay, but I wouldn't stay long term.
- 3/5
The hotel is reasonable for its cost. It is good to crash for 1 night but not when you are going for a relaxing vacation.
- 5/5
All good except lack of soap, and toothpaste. Air conditioning was very weak. Other than that, i enjoyed it. Feont desk had 0 personality... but what can you expect
- 3/5
No lift
- 2/5
This accomodation needs to severely spruce up their interior and exterior.

- 4/5
We loved our stay. The propery was great, our room was a basic 3 person so i queen bed and 1 twin. It was a good size for NYC. We did not have enough wall outlets for what we needed. We had 1 outlet for where the t

I loved the location. The room was extremely small. No elevators. Staff was wonderful!
- 4/5
The location was great, but the soundproofing was poor. I could clearly hear people talking outside and the noise from passing cars, which was quite disruptive. Some of the bathroom fixtures, like the door handle and toilet paper holder, were loose and seemed in need of maintenance. The lighting in the bathroom was also inconvenient because it got too dark when the shower curtain was closed. On top of that, there was no table or desk in the room, so there wasn't really a proper place to put personal items, which made things a bit uncomfortable.
- 2/5
Room was small asf but worth it if you are there for one night for a concert at MSG
- 4/5
I would stay here again. I loved the price and the location but it is a no frills place. The light bulb was burned out in my room and the second day they replaced it with a pink light bulb. We never got the TV to work. There were two pillows only in the room.
- 1/5
This is by far the worst place I have ever booked. Do not stay here unless you want to pay hotel prices to stay in a rundown college dorm room with poor WiFi and broken radiator. I immediately left and went to a voco Times Square South which was fantastic, and not much more in price
- 4/5
Super close to Union station, Madison Square Garden and estaurants the only thing you need to know is there no elevator. Put everything else good.
- 1/5
It was not what the picture show
- 1/5
The air conditioning was essentially useless—it just blew warm air, which made for a very uncomfortable stay given it was 34°C outside. There’s no lift, so be prepared to haul your luggage up multiple flights of stairs (my room was on the 4th floor). The room itself was poorly set up: there was only one accessible power socket, either occupied by the air conditioner or inconveniently located far from the bed. Noise was also a major issue—between the ineffective but loud A/C unit and constant traffic noise outside (sirens and honking), it was hard to relax. Wouldn’t recommend unless you’re in a bind and just need somewhere central for a very short stay.

The place was really clean and pretty decent for the price. It's a basic hotel room but we were happy with the value. The area is really great, as it is super close to the subway and train station. Times Square was also a short walk away.
- 2/5
Pizza and kfc close by, as well as a 7/11. We found a nice breakfast place called Friedmans about a 7 minute walk away. The room was a bed, night table and bathroom. I’d call this place more of a motel than hotel. We were on the third floor, no elevator. No mini fridge in the room to store our drinks. Tried calling the front desk a couple times, no answer. The workers were all lovely. Priced lower so I g

Tiny and bare accommodations
- 1/5
It was horrible, the room was small , dirty, a bug fell on my bag and my shirt I had to leave right away and had to book a last minute hotel ! I would like a refund !
- 3/5
This hotel benefits from a prime location and that apparently justifies a severely overpriced rate. They're not using that extra money to upgrade the rooms, which are average at best. Microscopic bathroom is a particular problem. The following is not necessarily the hotel's fault, but New York is the city that never sleeps. Just below my window there was road construction with one of those big iron plates over a hole in the street, and it CLANGED for every single driver all night long. I recommend soundproofing the rooms.
- 4/5
Great location. Safe area and close to Penn station. Walkable to Empire State, Times Square and broadway. Rooms are small and no elevator.
- 4/5
Our ac didn’t blow to cold
- 1/5
Very bad experience. Hoping for full refund. I have had a hard time resolving everything. Could not stay there even 24 hours due to the conditions.
- 2/5
Be warned, the photos for this property were AI created as were the descriptions. Smelled like drugs and looked like a prison. From desk staff during check in (evening) was not very pleasant. However, the morning lady was very kind. Also, it’s a multistory building with no elevator so please keep that in mind.
- 1/5
Not good
- 1/5
Terrible hotel. Dirty and cockroaches in the bathroom. Unfriendly staff in the reception. Only good thing was the location
- 1/5
This is the worst hotel i jave ever been to. And i mean that deeply. Its not as advertised in the photos. The room has no climate control, if I wasn't intoxicated, and this terrible place wasnt reserved I would've left once i walked into the lobby. This place is so bad its unbelievable they're in business.. ontop of everything the man at the counter informed me if i wanted to bring my 2nd guest it was an additional $50 (lol) my weekend is ruined. Im shocked expedia has this place on the site. I can't even stress how bad this place is. Im pissed of i HAVE to stay here. If there was a place close by that wasn't $550 for the night I'd leave
- 1/5
We saw a bedbug in our first floor room after about 45 minutes, so we left.
- 1/5
The place was dirty! After spend 200 bucks for a closet I asked management for a late check out due to the fact my train wasn't for an 2 hours after check out and they refused stating that they had painting to do in my room so at 11 sharp the man was pounding on the door screaming for us to get out of he was calling the police which horrifying at the least!!! And the entire hotel was grimy and dirty the stairwells were littered with construction debris and garbage! I do not recommend this hotel not even if your desperate!
- 4/5
- 2/5
This hotel is a 4 story walk up in Chelsea. It feels worn out. The rooms are all bed with no closets just coat hooks. Toilet/Shower are so small that the tiny sink was outside of the room. They’re using TV trays to put stuff on. The first room I had a TV that was on a wall that had no relation to the bed. I guess they expected you to use the folding chair they provided. Also my keycard kept demagnetizing and I’d have to come down fix it and walk back up 4 flights. Oh I’m 67 btw. If you were attending an event at Madison Square Garden this hotel would be very convenient but with Penn Station right there lots of homeless. Lastly the area is very noisy and the hotel’s windows do nothing to help.
- 4/5
Great location, super small rooms were just fine for what I was looking for. Clean and convenient, and the price was right.
- 1/5
Very convenient next to Madison Garden. But has no elevator, rooms are up many flights of stairs. Room is the size of a walk in closet barely can walk around. Bathroom reeked of urine and has no sink, the sink is next to the bed. They never move the bed to clean obviously because that’s where we found the tv remote so who knows how long it was back there for. There’s no phone to call desk, they knock on your door at 11am when it’s check out time. Just a very odd place to stay.
- 4/5
You get what you pay for. The room was tiny, no elevator, and the bed was lumpy. But the price is super low compared to other hotels in the area and it is very conveniently located. Hotel staff were very nice. Fine if you just need a place to crash one night.
- 3/5
There could have been more soap the TV kept cutting out other then that it was good
- 1/5
Room 406 had no water, bed bugs, and the shower curtain was broken on the floor. The front desk employee told me i would only be offered a different room. No refund. That is appalling. All I asked for was my money back. The front desk employee told me the manager said this herself. This is unprofessional. Please issue me a refund or I will be forced to leave a review online showing these pictures and force a chargeback. This is not how you do business
- 4/5
Very small and compact, but has everything you need.
- 3/5
Very small rooms, only the very basics avaliable. No fridge, no closet, sink
- 3/5
Proximity to Amtrak and Madison Square Garden make this a good choice for one night only. Very clean; limited outlets; weird beside lamp without swtch. CAUTION: no elevator, although staff will help with luggage.
- 3/5
The photos are deceiving. My tv didn't work, the room had a terrible cleaning smell, there is no elevator and basically no amenities whatsoever. It was loud outside, there was a turned over shopping cart that was no one bothered to remove and trash on the sidewalk outside. The front desk ignored me as I came and went. The pillows were really lumpy. BUT, it worked for my purpose which was to be within walking distance from a concert I was seeing.
- 3/5
Very convenient location 1 block from Penn station. But super noisy - can hear all the cars , buses , voices outside. Need to wear ear plugs then can sleep . Basic tiny room but good for one person .
- 1/5
Our air conditioner sounded like a diesel tractor and the windows / walls are paper thin so didn’t sleep at all due to the noise . Very rude front desk person . No elevator either . Avoid this place at all costs .
- 3/5
The WiFI did not work. There was no one on the front desk when I left the next morning.
- 5/5
Convenient location nearby the train location. Easy to find. Friendly staff for check-in.
- 1/5
Would not recommend this hotel to anyone
- 1/5
Cannot call this property as a hotel. Couldn't stay after checked in and left.
- 1/5
The a/c was disgusting covered in mold, I guess you get what you pay for. That was my only gripe. Shortly after being there a half day later my breathing was compromised this place needs to if nothing else clean those machines with bleach.
- 2/5
My issue was the room was so small and didn't have a chair. They had a small desk but no chair. My room key also reset every day, so I'd have to get in line to have them reset it each day. My toilet also didn't work right. On the positive side, the price was the cheapest, the staff was nice and the room was clean. But ultimately, I would not stay there again.
- 4/5
The hotel was safe, clean, and comfortable with a great walkable location. The room size and level of noise is to be expected in New York City at this price range. There were some loiterers outside the property after dark but I was never bothered or even spoken to by them. One benefit which is not clearly noted in the listing is that there is someone at the front desk 24/7- the staff were very helpful when I unexpectedly arrived to check in at 3am after a flight delay. However, I do have some critiques: - The property smelt strongly of weed the entire stay. I wonder if this was coming from outside and thus unavoidable, or through the vents. If you are a smoker, this may actually be a benefit. - The wifi didn’t work very well and I was only on the second floor. I was thankful to have mobile data. - The sensor light/fan in the bathroom was very annoying. I would have preferred that it was just a standard light switch. Overall it was a good stay, thanks to all the staff for your kindness and support
- 3/5
Very basic room.
- 3/5
Room 208 was tiny. 8' x 8', room with bed you can get in on one side and tiny sink. Bathroom is 4' x 4' with small shower & toilet. Lobby is tiny. Secured door to access hotel & lobby. Narrow staircase and hallway acess to room. Way overpriced at $270 with tax but it was an experience! Pretty loud street noises and trains but earplugs helped.
