    The hotel was nice, room was very clean, bed was comfortable. The mini-fridge in the room was purely a minibar with no room for storage (and the door was stuck when I tried to use it). I didn’t ask about this, but it’s something to mention that was unexpected.

    Even though I communicated with "Guest Relations" before my trip, the room that they said they had "set aside" for me had already been paid for, so they "set aside" nothing. The television in the room did not work. The room overlooked large ventilation equipment whose nonstop fans that kept me up all night. The room was right next to the floor's housekeeping base so the noise from the early morning staff and equipment woke us up. After communications with management and pointed criticism, they moved us to a nice suite. Bu why not treat up properly in the first place, especially at New York hotel room rates?

    The location of the hotel cannot be beat. I stayed at the Four Seasons in Bangalore a week before this and honestly found the customerservice top-notch. I wouldn’t say the same for the Ritz. My only reason for this is when we checked in, we were only provided with one key card. The lady who checked us in showed us to the elevators and when I noticed, we only had one card. I asked her for another one. She told me that we would have to come back the next day. There is no way this would’ve happened at The Four Seasons. While it may be a little thing, customer service means a lot. I just felt that the staff member did not want to make the effort to help us out that evening. The food at the breakfast buffet was fantastic and the pool and gym were great. The staff was excellent as well. I really don’t have anything negative to say about this place. My only comments were because I experienced an exceptional level of customer service and care at The Four Seasons the week before.

    The restaurant staff need to be more on the ball - they didn’t want to seat at your table - very strange such that you were left in no man’s land when trying to work out if you could sit anywhere or there was a table assigned to my party! In respect of the food at Bourbon Steak - it was fine apart from the French fries being served as a starter and not with your steak! Very strange and not in good way!

    Location was lovely, although it is right across from where the horses hang out for Central Park rides so it was stinky. Staff was very nice and helpful but could tell they were busy with many visitors for the UN Security Council. Rooms were clean and the beds were amazing!! The hotel felt crowded with elevators taking a while and lobby was overwhelmed with people. Also, our room did not have enough mirrors.

    We loved the location. We loved the entrance and the hotel smell. We booked a junior suite and specifically requested a room with a good view because my mother is losing her sight. Instead, we were given a view of a brick wall. The suite didn’t even have a kettle, forcing us to buy peppermint tea for $40—an outrageous price. The room was cold despite the heating being on, making it uncomfortable throughout our stay. If it weren’t for the location being convenient for walking, we could have stayed anywhere else. For three nights, our room bill came to $4,500. That is excessive for what we received.

    We’re frequent guests of the Marriott Essex House and we love to stay here. Customer service is top notch. We requested Marcela as our waitress for dinner and we did not go wrong. She is a wonderful person she went through the menu in detail and gave us great recommendations. Food was excellent. We also had a great view from our room.

    Location Comfortable bed Safe in room not working. Someone entered room when we were not there and left used women underwear near master bed indicating foul play. We called duty manager and security and they took pictures and changed our room. Upon check out they tried to charge extra unplanned taxes and mini bar usage which was all unnecessary snd not valid. This was all unexpected from such an establishment.

    The AC was loud. The first night we got there, we asked for extra sheets, we were told they were short staffed they would eventually bring the sheets, but no one ever came. I’d recommend if you need extra blankets, bedsheets or towels, request them early morning.

    Always construction in New York so surrounding buildings may have scaffolding up. Essex was a great stay and comfortable. Nice view of the park and staff were great. I felt it was elegant but not too posh. Would go again.

    Our room had a view of the building next door which was a letdown but was large and roomy for our family of three. Beds were comfortable but would have enjoyed at least a queen not a double bed for my husband and I. Bathroom was a great size. They had complimentary bottled water in the lobby each night we returned which was nice. Overall friendly service and cozy hotel with a convenient location to lots of activities.

    Spent a few nights here for a mini trip to NYC with my family. Although this is a dated but maintained hotel, the room was very comfortable and the location was perfect for visiting museums and seeing shows. Staff was great and left a few surprises for my kids when we checked in.

    It was terrible. We expected that this hotel would be nice and luxurious but the room was not that much clean and the water pipe from bathroom was broken, keep running water and air conditioner was not controlled well and we have to stay in cold weather and the staff were not nice for room services. Most importantly they charge us more that we paid. They said that 45 dollars had to be paid for every single day and it was explained in the policy. But we did not see that when we booked the hotel and we might have missed it but even though we missed it they should jave explained that policy but they did not and they charged us more even the services that we did not take and did not order.

    It is a very beautiful hotel and the autumn view of Central Park from our room was spectacular. We loved the genteel neighborhood, we felt very safe walking in the evening coming back from Jazz at Lincoln Center.

    Other than that the hotel is beautiful and well situated the rooms are larger than other hotels in the area and they had big soaker bath tubs which are a rarity in the city and lovely after a long day of walking.

    The staff was excellent!! I read reviews specifically stating that the staff was "underwhelming" and "would not accommodate" nor "care." But my experience was marvelous. Everyone from valet, checking-in/out, elevator rides, concierge, dining, the BAR, the restaurant hostess, just EVERYONE was friendly, welcoming, and eager to ensure I was having a great time at all times. They were so complimentary every time I walked through the lobby. No one ever pointed nor "man-explained" but would escort me to where I needed to. I wish the showers were glass vs curtain and the late-night menu stayed open another hour or two.

    I was in town for my bachelorette we booked a suite and two doubles. Called ahead of time and requested that they be near each other which they were the free water saved our lives lol directly across from Central Park was very nice. We had a great time and the hotel is extremely walkable.

    Services was terrible. No coffee in rooms and we went to lobby and no coffee until 7:00 AM. We subsequently went to nearby hotel and told them no coffee at Essex House. They subsequently served us coffee. At checkout the lady was on her I phone and not looking up. I subsequently got service when the manager noted this. I am a world traveler and in my opinion the Essex house has a laborer problem. We are returning to NYC at Christmas time and have booked at the Omni. On check in, we wanted something to eat and were ushered into bar area after they cleaned the table. Subsequently, we sat there for an hour with only water until a manager looking gentlemen noted us.

    We were able to walk to the central park zoo and down 5th avenue to 23rd street, and back to the hotel faster than the bus or ubers were moving in traffic. Walked to Times square, saw a Broadway play and dined at columbus circle. This was the perfect place to spend a few nights. The property is very nice. Well maintained and very clean. Room service was prompt and came back with a kettle so we could make our own tea. We spent 4 nights and it was perfect.

    Incredible location across from Central Park. Service from all the staff top notch. Food excellent, they could use more options on late night in room dining. Starbucks and tons of cafes around for breakfast and quick bites. Cabs always out front if your going somewhere.

    I’ve stayed at numerous JW Marriotts, and the Essex House just doesn’t live up to that standard. The staff were good, but the facilities were run down (e.g., our bathtub’s faucet constantly dribbled, one of the lamps wouldn’t turn off so we had to unscrew the lightbulb, the other lamp was missing the knob to turn it on, etc.). It’s in the process of being renovated, but that doesn’t excuse the shabby rooms and lack of cleanliness. Especially at the JW Marriott price point.

    Great location- that’s really it. The property is in a great location- but it’s truly dated, AC super noisy, poor housekeeping, staff not very friendly. I felt judged for booking thru Expedia, third party vendor as they stated, instead of Bonvoy- even though I’m a Bonvoy member. Disappointing.
