Hotel Riu Plaza New York Times Square

The room was on the smallish size, but adequate and had a great view. I just wish it had a comfortable chair to relax in while waiting for my wife. However, the leather chairs in the lobby were very comfortable as an option. This property has an attached bar which was nice.

Great variety in choices for breakfast. I did not like it when you have to eat all at the same time and family member can’t follow. Bathroom clean but not plastic liner in the garbage. Some housekeepers don’t know how to speak English and can’t answer when asked.

During my departure, I had already checked out and was placing my luggage in the car while the chauffeur was setting the destination. At that point, a female security officer approached us in a manner that I found unnecessarily rude and confrontational. Even after we explained that we were hotel guests who had just checked out, she continued to speak in an authoritative and discourteous way rather than offering assistance or clarification. The room amenities were also disappointing. The workspace was extremely small, making it difficult to work comfortably or organize personal belongings. Overall, the room felt cramped and not designed with business travelers in mind. Based on my experience, the service and facilities did not meet the standards I would expect from a property in this category. Unfortunately, I would not recommend this hotel to travelers seeking a refined and welcoming experience.

Friendly staff, location perfect for what we needed. Good selection for breakfast. Shower leaked from under the door. I reported it someone was supposed to look at it. Don’t know if they did but it leaked for all of our stay. Enough that we needed towels changed daily as they were soaked mopping up the floor. There was also some hair from previous occupants still in the shower when we got there. Breakfast advertised as being served until 10am, we got there at 09:15 the first morning and initially the hostess told me they had stopped serving. When I questioned it I was informed that they clear the food at 09:50 so we could eat as long as we were aware of the timings. Had to get my keycard reactivated twice in 4 days!! Want hard to do but an inconvenience. Despite all the above we would stay again happily.

Great location, easy to get everywhere. The hotel was clean, typical small New York rooms but worked for our family. Only issue was the breakfast. If you are going to still let people into the buffet breakfast after 9:30, the hotel should still restock the food. There were hundreds on people trying to get the leftover food at 9:50. Nothing left but cereal...

Riu plaza room was small but lovely. It had all needed amenities & was mostly satisfactory. My only difficulties were with a frequent sandpaper rubbing kind of noise at all hours, which I suspect was because my room was next to the Pumping Room. Lastly I found that no matter how careful I was, water leaked after both showers, into the foyer of the room, which I used towels to clean up. In a less expensive room, I would not have considered this a problem but for prices at Riu, I was surprised. Other than those issues, the room was very good.

Disappointing

There were 3 of us in the room. It was tight, but we managed. The room was cleaned daily. The breakfast was wonderful! The staff was good for the most part. Especially the maids and the guy who needed to unlock my safe!

i had to give id/dl for every member of my party of five who were adults. (they are my adult children). then on wifi everyone who used it had to sign in with email and wifi looked up info that i had to give to hotel. i will not stay there again. no one needs to know info of my guests period. i hope i am not bombarded with email adds.

The room also had issues. The toilet seats creaked and felt unstable, which was disappointing given the room rates. Additionally, the street-facing rooms were extremely noisy. Better sound insulation would greatly improve comfort and sleep quality. The elevator key card system was unreliable, with cards frequently failing to work. This became frustrating throughout the stay. The breakfast could also be improved, particularly the eggs, which were consistently too wet in texture. Overall, the hotel should focus more on guest experience rather than extra charges. The cleaning staff were the standout positive — kind, professional, and hardworking throughout the visit.

Overall not bad. I was there 2 nights and had to get keycard updates in 3 occasions which was extremely frustrating.

Las facilidades son muy bonitas y bien cuidadas. El espacio de habitación considerando los estándares de la ciudad es muy cómodo. En mi caso la habitación tenía una vista espectacular. Ofrecen desayuno sin costo muy completo y variado. También tienen servicio coordinado de shuttle para aereopuerto JFK en horario específico dos veces al día. Tiene una buena barra y restaurante. También área de café , helados y frutas. En general fue una muy buena experiencia que sin duda repetiremos.

We had a fantastic stay at this hotel in New York. The hotel itself was excellent, and our room was beautiful with an amazing view over the city. The location was perfect as well. The hotel is within walking distance of Times Square, which made it very easy to explore the city and visit many popular attractions. We also really appreciated how flexible and helpful the staff were when we asked to move to another room because of noisy neighbors. The change was handled smoothly and professionally, which made our stay much more comfortable. The breakfast was absolutely outstanding. There was an incredible variety of options and everything was fresh and delicious. We were genuinely impressed by the quality and selection available every morning. The Fashion Restaurant was another highlight of our stay. The food and drinks were delicious, and the prices were surprisingly reasonable for New York. We enjoyed spending time there. The only downside is that, because it is such a large hotel, breakfast can get quite busy during peak hours. However, the hotel does clearly inform guests about the best times to go for a quieter breakfast experience, which was helpful. Overall, we had a wonderful experience and would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone visiting New York.

Once again the lobby is overly packed and because of what we had on and what we looked like we had to prove that we paid for the $1200 room but no one else had to. After we showed our keys he went right back to his post. The couple sitting next to us were so disgusted they literally got up and left the hotel because of the distaste. I was extremely offended.

The room is good. There was a light fully strobing when I got to the room. I went back down to the front desk at 4pm (because no one answered the phone) to ask them to have it fixed and they didn't come to fix it until after 10pm. Overall, the hotel is fine. Just started off my stay poorly.

Cleanliness, great location and free breakfast! Check in - new employee who struggled just adding names to our reservation for several minutes before agreeing to ask a colleague for help. This hotel is worth it for the included breakfast alone - I have never seen such an all encompassing hotel breakfast. Also, no street noise while trying to sleep, which is always a plus in NYC. Broadway shows were literally right outside our hotel, so perfect location if that is part of your trip.

I really enjoyed the location of the property and the decor of the hotel was lovely. The breakfast was awesome! There was a small issue with the bed linens not looking freshly cleaned, and especially on the sofa bed, but once we spoke to front desk they immediately responded and provided cleaned bedsheets. The staff was very attentive and pleasant. I would definitely stay at the Riu Plaza Hotel again.

The rooms are good and clean especially for New York but a heads up to some that the bathroom door is a slide door which leaves gaps and there is a glass panel next to the bed where the shower is where you can clearly see a persons silhouette so if you’re really conscious of privacy you may feel uncomfortable

Central to all our theater events. Plentiful restaurant options nearby. The coffee shop at the hotel had delicious iced coffee

Our stay at Riu Plaza New York Times Square was very pleasant. The hotel offers a high standard — the rooms were clean, comfortable, and well-equipped, and the staff was helpful and professional. The biggest advantage is definitely the location, right in the heart of Times Square, which made exploring the city very easy. Breakfast offered a wide selection of food, although it could get quite crowded at times. Overall, we really enjoyed our stay and would definitely recommend this hotel for a trip to New York City.

All in all the location is the thing for this hotel.... it is there in the center off all the actions around Time Square. The breakfast "factory" is of great food but it is a giant factory and not a cosey hotel dining room. There is a strange gap between the atmosphere of the Lobby of a Mid-Town fancy hotel to the Rooms and corridors that are much more tiny and ascetic. Room service did a great job, the front desk clerks were a bit distant. NYC and all ... still pricing a bit too high that makes it questionable value for money

Upon booking this hotel stated " parking available " however when checking in I was told parking is at independent parking lot 5 NYC blocks away which will be discounted however the receptionist didnt know what the discount was. When I drove to the lot on 50th st the road was closed due to road paving I then had to park at a lot 1 block away for 75 dollars.Upon checking out I informed the manager Pedro of the parking issue and asked him if i could be discounted something for the misleading parking situation and the high fee paid due to the closure of the lot due to paving. His answer was an emphatic NO stating they arent responsible for the lot they directed me to. In addition i was given a handicapped room on floor 7 facing to back of building terrible view and the breakfast was cold at 7am in the morning. I will never return or recommend this hotel

We were promptly moved the next day too a better room that was great the first night. The second night we were kept awake till past 3 am by a party next door that was loudly arguing and shouting. Complained to the desk who spoke to them, but it only helped for maybe an hour. Paper thin walls didn’t help. We had stayed at the hotel before, and returned, but never again!

I only have two negatives about my stay, and that is, the room smelled rancid. As if it was moldy. Additionally, the bed was very uncomfortable. For the price, I would opt out of staying there again.

Our family recently spent two nights at the Riu Hotel Times Square and were thoroughly satisfied with our stay. The staff were consistently approachable and helpful, with the bell boy Christian providing exceptional assistance. The inclusion of breakfast was a welcome convenience, making it easier to start our day. Furthermore, the hotel's location was excellent, with many of the attractions we visited during our stay in New York within walking distance.

Our room was okay until we had no cold water. After day two there was only scolding hot water, and it was even coming up heated in the toilet. Upon checking the reviews this was not the first time this had happen, but the hotel staff sure did act like it has never happened before! When I went down to complain the manager Jen D was not very nice, and offered us absolutely no resolutions. Just said the hot water situation was being worked on. Hours later I called downstairs to ask again what was going on, as the hot water situation was not resolved. I asked for Jen D and they said she was in a "meeting", and let me talk to Assistant manager Nathalia. She was nice and offered to change our room, so we said yes we would like that. I told we didn't want to be by the stairwell anymore, and she gave us a room of a view "of Manhatten" AND this room was directly against the clinking and clanging of the elevator allllllll day and night!! You know God forbid you complain about anything nowadays. They end up punishing you for it! She knew exactly what she was doing when she put us there!! Bad service!! There was a $ "hold" on our room at check in, that we were supposed to get reimbursed, and I called them (2weeks after)and they said wait a while more and then call the bank if we didn't get it. The bank said they couldn't help us!! The best thing at this hotel was the breakfast!! Now that was amazing every morning. We will not be staying here again though.

The hotel is in a great location, close to all of the shows in Times Square, it was clean and the staff were friendly. We did however have a pretty significant issue that prevented us from fully enjoying our stay. We originally had a hotel booked in Chinatown that would be able to comfortably accommodate our family of 5, 2 adults and 3 children (18,15,12). We switched to the Hotel Riu because it was better located and they also claimed to be able to accomodate us all in 1 room. The room said it had two double beds and a sofa bed. We walked into the room and it was incredibly small and narrow with just enough room to walk past the beds, not a big deal that was fine. Except when we went pull out the sofa bed there was not enough room for the bed to get pulled out fully. The end of the sofa bed had to rest on top of the mini fridge at a 45 degree angle, so the person sleeping in it had to either have their feet in the air or sleep diagonally on the sofa portion with their feed dangling off the side. We talked to the front desk and asked if there was anything they could do, they said they would check and when we came back to the room everything was made up exactly the same way with the end of the sofa bed awkwardly semi unfolded. They kind of just blew us off and didn't follow up with an explanation, apology, nothing. It was very disappointing to see the lack in care or concern over their poor room set up.

The only complaints were that the room keys didn't work very well and we had to have them replaced twice, even though we kept the card away from our phones as instructed at check-in and the thermostat was a little tricky. However, opening the window cooled the room effectively. Concierge, housekeeping, buffet,and front desk staff were great. The lobby was very welcoming and relaxing.

Everything, in general, was wonderful—the breakfast was exquisite. My regards go out to the entire staff, including all the Dominicans and other Latinos I met; the service at the bar was exquisite, and everyone was truly great. As for cleanliness, I give them 200% out of 100%. This was my first time in New York, and let me tell you: on my next visit, I will definitely return to this hotel—it is perfectly centrally located.

First, I will say the hotel itself is beautiful. You can tell a lot of care and attention went into the design, especially in the lobby area. It feels modern, clean, and well thought out, and it definitely makes a strong first impression when you walk in. That said, the service was extremely disappointing. I would honestly rate it a zero out of ten. There was nothing warm, welcoming, or attentive about the experience. It felt very transactional, with no effort to go above and beyond or provide any kind of memorable customer service. The room itself was fine for sleeping, but very small. It felt like maybe 200 square feet at most. It worked for a place to crash, but it was far from comfortable if you are staying more than a night or two. Breakfast was another frustration. While it is advertised as a continental breakfast, they do not allow you to take anything to go, even if you did not finish your food. That felt unnecessarily restrictive and inconvenient, especially when you are trying to get out and explore the city. There is also NO room service. Overall, this hotel feels very basic despite the price point. For nearly $400 a night, I expected a much better experience. Honestly, I think I would have had a more comfortable and service oriented stay at a place like the Courtyard by Marriott. I would NOT stay here again!

The check in staff was rude and unfriendly with a terrible attitude (they did recover after a complaint to the supervisor who provided an upgrade and late checkout). Breakfast was chaos and similar story: rude staff, so messy that they a constant mopping of the floor (!). The staff that was good and constant in their performance was the portiers - they were great. The rooms where basic and very thin doors which made the rooms noisy from hallway activity. They clearly benefit from location - that is the only plus of this hotel - I will never go there again and will not recommend it.

Staff were always kind and polite no matter how difficult things got. I stayed here during a snowstorm that caused increased need for room changes and greatly increased need for the morning buffet. Staff handled these changes with kindness and grace and never made me feel like they were overburdened.

The staff was friendly and helpful at check in, pretty lobby, secure elevators. The room was clean and very quiet except for one very loud slamming Exit door to the stairs. That might need to be addressed. Other than the occasional loud door slam, the room was extremely quiet. The noise of the city below was not heard throughout the night. Breakfast was amazing and well organized. I would definitely stay here again.

The bldg is still new hence it has an excellent overall appearance. It has a very generous breakfast buffet however the queue is always long even on said off peak hours. Guests cannot take out food so obviously everyone needs to dine in. I understand there’s a policy of no bringing out of food but the breakfast staff was very rude in telling us. She gave us a homily about the policy which embarrassed us. I was just wanting to take out my left over croissant and fruits as we didn’t have ample time to finish and we needed to leave for our Statue of Liberty tour. It is in this hotel that I have seen so many wasted foods left by guests as everybody was rushing after spending so much time waiting for the elevator and breakfast queue. Take note, everybody in the room is required to dine all at the same time which is insane as only 1 bathroom is shared hence it is expected that some would want to dine ahead than the others.

The room was very clean, the staff was incredibly friendly and welcoming, and the breakfast was great. The location is perfect—just a 3–4 minute walk to Times Square. We couldn’t have asked for a better stay and would absolutely recommend this hotel.

The room was clean and updated, The bathroom was especially nice. My issue is that it was 78 degrees in my room in February with no way to adjust the temperature. The thermostat was set to cool and high fan, and it was so hot and uncomfortable.

We had to wait up to 20 minutes for elevators multiple times. We were only on the 3rd floor so I tried to take the stairs but we ended up in the basement, with the hotel laundry.

Also, wallss were very thin, so easy to hear conversations, etc, in the neighbouring room. However, good location, and good breakfast, albeit very busy.

Great location, spacious, very clean room with fabulous view (9th floor looking west). I really appreciated the eco consciousness -- they made it easy to recyle and everything electonic was turned off when you left the room. BUT when you card-key controls so much, it has to be reliable and mine died twice in 3 days. Also the disinfectents (or whatever) used to clean the room left an unpleasant smell that took aobut 24 hours to go away.

I had an excellent stay at the RIU Plaza New York Times Square. The location was perfect right in the heart of Times Square and close to everything. The hotel was very clean, and the rooms were comfortable with amazing views of the city. The breakfast buffet was delicious, with a great variety of food to choose from. Most of all, the staff were extremely nice, friendly, and helpful throughout our stay. I would definitely recommend this hotel and would stay here again.

Our room was booked through Hotels.com. The hotel did not have the correct reservation for us. They had incorrect information and expected us to pay for the room at double the rate we had already paid and dispute the hotel.com reservation. It took over an hour of our time to come up with a solution and upon checking out the issue had still not been resolved. The hotel stated they had issues like this before with hotels.com, making me unsure of the reliability of booking with them in the future. I hope this issue can be resolved quickly and easily.

Have stayed here 3 times now and it’s been excellent every time. Rooms are spotless they are quite small but it’s only a bed for the night as you’re out most of the day, beds are very comfortable too. Breakfast is also a great reason to stay at this hotel obviously as well as the location. Lots to choose from the buffet breakfast, yes it does get busy but you don’t have to wait too long. Staff are always very helpful too

Location, location, location!!! Could not be better for seeing a Broadway show. Room was bare bones and linens were threadbare and coverlet at end of bed was dirty, but we had everything we needed. Bathroom had glass walls that were frosted but see-through, NOT ideal for a mother/daughter traveling together, that was my biggest complaint. Room was a decent size, especially for NYC. Nice big windows, with a city view. Hot breakfast buffet was fabulous and overflowing. Staff were all welcoming and friendly. Price was fabulous for NYC. It was a decent place to lay my head for a night, but not worthy of a rave review. I may be back because the location simply cannot be beat.

We enjoyed our stay. It was a great location for a trip to NYC. The staff was friendly and the breakfast being included was great. Lots of options and never had to wait. We have been to NYC during Christmas four times now, we have stayed here twice, once in 2022 and once in 2025 last week. The Front desk staff was not friendly at all, condescending when checking in (2 workers). The food was so much worse than it was back in 2022, we didn’t even eat there the last two days even though it was included. We were put in a handicapped room which made the bathroom space and toilet awkward to use. It was clean, but not the same room we had the first visit, definitely a downgrade. The best part of this hotel is the location. So close to Times Square, that is the one plus I can offer. Worst of all, be careful of the front bellhops. We had a bellhop named Christian that attempted to scam us out of money. We asked for him to get us a cab back to JFK airport. First, he tried to get us to buy their select ride for over $100. We said we would prefer the cab since it is a flat rate of $70 plus tolls from Manhattan to JFK. He then proceeded to tell us that the flat rate only applies from JFK to the city and that we would have to pay well over $120-$130 for the ride. He then helped get our bags to the taxi, got us in the car and had a talk with the driver before the cab driver got back in the car. The taxi driver on the ride admitted that the bellman told him to charge us a more expensive fare and then cut him in on the profit. If I wasn’t familiar with the process or if the cab driver wasn’t honest, we would have lost money. Do your research!

Hotel was newer and breakfast was amazing. We had really great service. I was disappointed overall with the size of the room. And the overall furnishings, even just the hallways leading to the rooms, definitely did not have a luxury feel to it. Also I would try to get rooms away from the elevators as we heard the elevator shaft banging all night (we were on the backside of the elevator bank).

The only thing that I did not think was quite fair was the fact I could not bring my daughter any orange juice back to the room while she was getting ready.

The hotel is clean and beautiful and in close proximity to subway. The staff was excellent. My only complaint was the breakfast was very crowded and ran out of food items both days I was there.

Hotel rooms were very small, run down and dirty. Website pictures do not represent experience. After staying one night, we decided to move to a different hotel. Would not recommend

Hotel was a few blocks from Times Square and offered a friendly staff, exceptionally friendly doorman, clean rooms refreshed daily, and wonderful complimentary breakfast buffet that had everything you could ever want to choose from.

At 5 AM we are woken up by the sound of water pouring out of the ceiling light in our bathroom. The floor is covered in water and it’s like a rain storm. We called the front desk to tell them that something in the floor above needs to be fixed, and we need buckets. By 6:30 AM it was fixed. And they brought in men to mop up the floor. But to compensate for our lost night of sleep and turning our bathroom into a rainforest, they deducted $50 offa $600 room. Totally inadequate!

Check in was slow and room selection took a long time due to staff discussion being extensive. The breakfast was incredibly crowded, frustrating, and the variety was poor.

Great place to stay. I will recommend it to friends.

The free breakfast was absolutely off the charts — huge selection, fresh, well-run, and a massive value when you're feeding five people in Manhattan. It set the tone every morning and really elevated the entire stay. The only downside was an interaction with the manager at the on-site Fashion Bar. Her approach to simple guest questions came across as skeptical and guarded, almost as if she’s been burned too many times. It didn’t match the warm, guest-first attitude we’ve consistently experienced with the RÍU brand. It wasn’t enough to ruin the stay, but it was the one moment that didn’t feel like RÍU. Overall, the RÍU Plaza New York remains one of the best family-friendly options in the city, and we’ll absolutely be back.

Staff was wonderful. Room was clean. Took away 1 star because the shower in the “family friendly” room had a wall with frosted glass that gave a not so family friendly shadow show.

Everything was great. Cleanliness, location, room upgrade, transportation, etc...

Absolute 10/10. Very friendly front desk staff, Danny was awesome and helpful. My room was absolutely gorgeous. So clean and PLENTY of towels lol. Shower was huge and had amazing water pressure and the water gets hot (you never know these days). And of the bed was like sleeping on a cloud. I will certainly be back here next time I need to stay in the city.

The staff at check in were a bit grumpy. The rooms were ok, very basic and uncomfortable beds that slide when bumped into. Breakfast and hotel amenities were good.

The room was clean, modern and spacious. Nice view of the Hell’s Kitchen neighborhood looking towards the Hudson River. Perfect hotel for theater goers.

Loud room (both outside and inside noise) without room-darkening curtains, so it's also pretty bright both at night and in the morning.

I was allowed an early check-in which was wonderful! But then the key stopped working and the wifi instructions were unclear.
