Reviews
The Hotel Elysee is a charming, boutique hotel in a prime location in New York City. Guests appreciate the friendly and helpful staff, as well as the spacious rooms. However, some guests find the hotel to be in need of renovation, with outdated furniture and decor, and some rooms suffering from noise issues due to construction or nearby buildings.
- Friendly and helpful staff
- Spacious rooms
- Outdated furniture and decor
- Noise issues in some rooms

Clean room, friendly staff...great stay!!

Great restaurant next door. Close to best shopping.
- 4/5
Great location, friendly staff, very nice breakfast lounge.
- 5/5
We will miss this hotel during their 2 year renovation
- 5/5
Excellent staff, loved our suite and the Monkey Room and breakfast.
- 4/5
We stayed at the Hotel Elysee for four nights in June 2025. The beds were rock hard and the rooms old and shabby. Smelled and looked like a grandmas closet. They are shutting down for remodeling and so to be fair, we got the worst of it. Run down and smelly. Robes were thread bear, shower barely worked, thermostat was analog. Do not recommend.
- 5/5
Fabulous location, lovely place to stay
- 4/5
Check-in was fast and they accommodated us with an early check in without charge. Parking (valet) for $40, decent. Room is old, but decently spacious. Shower was great. Mini fridge was not working but they immediately brought a replacement. Lighting at the room was poor (especially inside bathroom). Breakfast was included and it was good enough. Overall a good stay, but as most hotels in Manhattan, too overpriced for what you get.
- 4/5
Everything was great except the pillows
- 5/5
Very helpful staff.
- 3/5
The hotel is well-located, the staff is professional and the breakfast/snack room and library are fine. Our room had old stained furniture with broken hardware and peeling wallpaper - and while clean it did not feel spotless. This is unlike the other Library Collection hotels which are more updated.
- 5/5
Great sitting room for all day snacks and breakfast. Room was clean, well appointed, and staff was very friendly and helpful
- 5/5
Excellent staff, very professional, prompt, and courteous. Very comfortable rooms, quiet and clean. Excellent location. Very highly recommended.
- 5/5
Charming, clean, private
- 4/5
This is an older property in fairly good condition. The rooms had enough space. Everything in the bathroom worked well, although there was not enough room for all of our cosmetics and medicines. Climate control worked, but was difficult to set for the desired temperature. The room was serviced every day, which was nice. The breakfast was a continental breakfast, with no protein, other than hard boiled eggs. The machine for espresso and cappuccino worked really well. Overall, there was nothing inadequate, but at $450 per night, it was very expensive for what we got.
- 5/5
Old world charm but updated and spotless. Don’t close and change to another modern hotel!
- 5/5
Perfect location
- 2/5
Very very disappointed. My sister had stayed here on and off for years on business and was always promoting their excellence. Such a disappointing place to stay. Needs many updates including room working card keys, air/heat working and staying on and not making big noises in the room, breakfast options - pathetic unless you want sweets, pathetic handling of above mentioned problems by front desk and management. Would NOT recommend at this time. Perhaps they will take care of problems which they said they are looking into - should have told us about all the problems when we checked in. We could have then gone elsewhere. Our one compliment would be to Gary, the doorman who gave excellent service in a friendly manner. Thank you Gary!
- 5/5
We love the Elysee and sorry it will be closed for at least 2 years for renovations. We will miss it!
- 5/5
Lovely older hotel in the heart of Midtown. We enjoyed the charm, hospitality room and breakfast. The front desk provided us with a great dinner recommendation (and reservation). Despite the fact that some of the furnishings in our room could use an upgrade, it was overall a very good experience.
- 4/5
Other than that, very kind and helpful team. Clean, well appointed and superb location. Thanks!
- 5/5
Hotel Elysee is like an old friend. It is comfortable, friendly and it is well located in Mid-Town Manhattan. The staff is exceptional. The second-floor lounge is perfect for a quick coffee or soda at any time of the day.
- 5/5
This hotel far exceeded my expectations. It's definitely old, but it has a quaint, cozy charm that I loved. The staff is wonderful, the free breakfast and snacks all day was an unexpected and delightful surprise. The location is perfect--out of the chaos of Times Square, but an easy 15 - 20 min walk to see a Broadway show, and a 10 minute walk to Central Park. Plus, all the high-end shopping you could ever want. The subway station is about a block away, and to our surprise, we could go directly to Penn Station in only 4 stops (which was amazing as we took Amtrak to Boston when we left NY). Highly recommend.
- 5/5
Outstanding location, great service from the front desk staff.
- 5/5
Great property in good condition. We liked ambience and location.
- 5/5
Fabulous location and spacious well-appointed rooms. Decor could use a refresh which we understand is in the works. The lounge with beverage and snack service is a nice touch, and we very much enjoyed a last minute drink and dinner at Monkey Bar before our show. Slept in with the quiet, cool room (and no children or dog requiring our attention - biggest treat of all)!
- 5/5
Great hotel, great service. Will definitely come back.
- 4/5
Nothing terrible, but more of a three star hotel vs the four stars Expedia says it is
- 5/5
It’s old but charming. It is also about to close for a renovation, I hope they keep the charm.
- 5/5
I stayed four nights and had a great experience. The late checkout and 24/7 lounge are excellent features. Highly recommend.
- 5/5
Love the place
- 3/5
The hotel was nice. The light breakfast was nice. The service was nice. What I didn’t like was that the property details says parking was available at 40/day. When we arrived and needed to leave again, the attendant told us it was $40 per occurrence. One of the major factors of booking this go was th $40/ day parking. If it is occurrence, it should be explained clearly on the property details page. Then I would have probably skipped the hotel. Also, there area step ups to the bathrooms which is not typically seen in hotels, causing me to stub my toe and making it difficult to wheel in a wheelchair. I feel that should be mentioned in the property details also.
- 5/5
Great location! Quiet and very nice!
- 5/5
Classy midtown boutique hotel. Highly recommended!

Very pleasant staff and lovely breakfast room!
- 5/5
A great hotel
- 5/5
Wonderful! Elegant! Old New YOrk!
- 5/5
Great location. Nice lounge.
- 5/5
Amazing place and friendly staff!
- 4/5
Old school charm, well maintained, what a NY Hotel should be.
- 5/5
Loved the lounge area for breakfast and snacks.
- 4/5
We were in town for a family dinner and stayed one night. Front desk could not have been more helpful with a coffee shop recommendation and check out. We are low maintenance guests. Club room was sublime and a unique New York experience not getting charged for drinks and snacks. Our room was a little tired, some of the wallpaper could use some attending to but it was perfect for what we were looking for: a romantic overnight in an Old World feeling hotel room. Oh, and the location could not be better.
- 4/5
I asked for a handicapped room. It was very small and hard to maneuver a wheelchair. The shower didn't have a shower seat. The commode was very low and again not a big bathroom.
- 3/5
They try to make it up with a French theme, which is nice. Nice breakfast/library area and cute restaurant/bar connected to the lobby. The internet on the 10th floor was barely working even after informing the front desk. As in ok to read the news in some areas of your room ;) Windows noise isolation is somewhere from 1970th
- 5/5
Older hotel that is well maintained with a friendly staff.
- 5/5
Everything was excellent.Loved the sitting area where snacks were offered. Nice extra!

The outside room is great
- 4/5
Quaint, vintage hotel. Quiet and comfortable. Staff was friendly and accommodating. Great location for midtown exploring.
- 5/5
We also appreciated the Club Room as a place to relax with snacks and newspapers to read.
- 5/5
Very clean. Staff was accommodating and friendly.
- 5/5
Loved the second floor guest area with snacks all day and a lovely breakfast.
- 5/5
Location, breakfast, snacks, coffee. nice size room
- 5/5
Amazing service, great location. The rooms are older but large and charming. The club house with unlimited snacks and drinks is a great perk.
- 5/5
Room was in spectacular shape, front desk remembered your name after meeting you once, very nice experience
- 5/5
Fabulous hotel. Staff very helpful. Convenient to NYC locations. Recommend to travellers
- 5/5
What a nice stay. The staff here was the story. Great service nice people. It’s an older property but clean, comfortable and water pressure!!!
- 5/5
Our favorite NYC Hotel. Why? Because it’s always been like a home away from home. Small hotel with staff that have worked there for many years with minimal turnover provide an intimate and welcoming atmosphere hard to find anywhere particularly in New York City. They’re about to do an extensive remodeling in June so we’ll have to wait until they resurface - hopefully without losing the charm that made The Elysee a home away from home.
- 4/5
A very comfortable hotel with a very nice vibe
- 5/5
Stay was fantastic. Beds comfortable and service great. Location was wonderful.
- 5/5
Quaint hotel central to many tourist attractions. Enjoyed our stay!
- 5/5
Excellent hotel!!
- 3/5
I would skip staying here until the renovation is complete.
- 5/5
Wonderful!
- 5/5
This is my 12th stay the Élysée. It is warm, safe with a welcoming staff. The club room fosters community among the guests. The physical property is very charming with a feel of early 20th century France. It is, however, in need of renovation and will close at the end of the month, for over a year for a complete renovation. Many of the loyal guests are looking forward to the renovation, anxious for the re-opening, and hoping that the welcoming, intimate ambience is preserved.
- 5/5
We’re sad that it is closing at the end of the month for a 2 year renovation The staff is amazing and everything is perfectly done
- 4/5
It’s a charming hotel in a convenient location with old-world decor. Very clean and quiet rooms.
- 5/5
Another great stay! Thank you.
- 3/5
Hotel has not been refreshed TV did not work and front desk simple said “ we know we are working on it.
- 4/5
Loved this hotel, which was central to every location we planned to visit. The continental breakfast got us off to a great start each morning. The staff were helpful and friendly. Charming atmosphere.
- 4/5
The room was spacious especially for New York but it was a bit worn out. Could use a refresh. But all in all we had a wonderful stay and I would stay there again.
- 5/5
Very nice people at the check in desk. I love the breakfast on the 2nd floor and it has such friendly staff there. Excellent from start to finish.
- 5/5
It was a beautiful European style hotel with a very hip , beautiful, and busy restaurant and bar
- 4/5
We liked the space of the double room, but the rooms were a bit dated. The bed was great though. Slept very well. Would be happy to return. Great location. Within walking distance of so many things we had on our list of must do list.
- 4/5
Front desk. Not as friendly as usual. Room has all one needs. Monkey bar next door so much fun. Very affordable hotel.
- 5/5
Upon arrival AJ and Jesse served as warm and welcoming ambassadors for Hotel Elysée and this past weekend’s all around excellent experience staying at the hotel.
- 5/5
Only downside is lack of room service. Great place.
- 5/5
Fabulous location for shopping. It's a very old building and the lobby isn't great but the room is in good shape and spacious. The staff is very nice. Attached is the Monkey Bar. Very popular and pretty. I haven't had the chance to eat there but I heard it was good. I did have a drink.
- 5/5
The staff and hotel is wonderful. Can't wait to return. Thank you.
- 5/5
Loved the service and the 2nd floor lounge
- 5/5
Bar. loved the location!!
- 5/5
Have stayed here numerous times. Always great!
- 5/5
Very friendly and accommodating staff. The breakfast/snack rooms are well supplied with good coffee, and pastries, and snacks and bottled still and sparkling water. Newspapers there are NY Times, Wall Street Journal, and New York Post. Very comfortable chairs and sofas and small tables in snack rooms. Perfect for leisurely breakfast or having afternoon tea. Many rooms have great comfortable chairs for reading. The Hotel and rooms have a seasoned French vibe. The Monkey Bar connected to the Hotel is a must for lunch or dinner--very popular with young crowd.
- 5/5
This is a great smaller hotel and it is beautiful. The staff is so friendly and helpful. It is a great location ans walking seems very safe. I do miss their happy hour but I understand the economics of that.
- 4/5
Good place for a trip to Manhattan.
- 5/5
Love it!
- 5/5
Nice place
- 5/5
Charming design to rooms & furnishings. Very warm & helpful staff.
- 5/5
We liked the club-room where you could always get a snack and hot beverage!
- 5/5
Location was a plus
- 2/5
Holes location was great, but hotel itself is very outdated
- 5/5
Great location. Wonderful bed. Friendly staff.
- 5/5
Always great!
- 5/5
The staff was fabulous. Felt very personable. Rooms were quiet. 2nd floor club room a big plus.
- 5/5
Great location. Great service/staff. A little noisy in the morning because of street traffic and garbage day, but aside from that it was a great choice of hotel.
- 4/5
Small hotel. Wish they had room service.
- 5/5
The hotel is charming and by far, the best place to stay in mid Manhattan. The guest lounge is open all day and is something that we have never before encountered in a hotel. Start of day to end, a beautiful experience
- 5/5
Very comfortable and kind employees. Made a pleasant visit and loved Monkey Bar next door.
- 4/5
Great location and nice place to stay. It is a bit worn and the heating, while it works fine, makes noises as it revs up and down during the evening. As does the water heater in the shower. The club room is a nice amenity. The Monkey Bar is a must for food, drink and good service.
- 4/5
I like the property very much, but as a guest it was difficult to get in the Monkey Bar or Restaurant. The Hotel needs to be refreshed but I hope they retain the old world charm and coziness. The second floor lounge breakfast area is cozy but just needs refreshing a bit. The rooms need refurbishing as well. Overall the hotel is very nice and I hope they don't do a crazy renovation that escalates the room charges so much that I will have to look for a new hotel to stay when I visit NYC.
- 5/5
Location is convenient. The room was larger than I remembered and the second floor lounge area is always a welcome respite. The staff was attentive, friendly and professional. Wonderful stay.
- 5/5
We were in a celebration trio for our 50th Wedding Anniversary. We love staying at the Elysee, love New York and all that we did!
- 4/5
Staff were polite, caring and helpful. The room is well kept, clean and adequate. Location is perfect, close enough to the hussle and bussle vibe yet far enough away for some down time. Overall, great stay!
- 4/5
Stalwart property w/ great record of success as a hotel. Happening restaurant on site and overall comfortable place.
- 5/5
Charm of an old hotel and very convenient to subway, shopping and major sites. Staff was pleasant and very helpful. Being adjacent to the Monkey Bar doesn’t hurt either. Lol
- 4/5
Nick who helped me with check-in was exceptionally welcoming and helpful. I came in a day early and he helped me add an extra nigh.
- 5/5
Awesome bar on first floor. (The monkey bar)
- 5/5
Oh what a wonderful stay! Thank you so much for this gem on 54th. We really loved the 2nd floor community area. We met so many nice guests from near and far. Location is spectacular, felt very safe!
- 5/5
Great stay and the manager Jack was particularly excellent with professional demeanor that matched the service.
- 5/5
The best feature or the hotel, Besides the service and location, is the club room. It is where breakfast is served and is open 24 hours/day and provides a comfortable lounge and living area with refreshments outside of your room.
- 4/5
The property is very quaint as one would expect of a hotel that has been around for almost 100 years...the furniture is a bit tired as are the carpets but the rooms are comfortable. The bathrooms are quite tight space wise. There is only one elevator to the rooms but it is quite large and did not have any issues. The second floor coffee lounge was a nice treat. The staff is incredible and the big surprise was the very popular Monkey Bar at the property. Location is hard to beat.
- 5/5
We loved this hotel. The room was spacious and comfortable. The bathroom was fully renovated. Not a problem… but the couch upholstery could have been refreshed… aka redone. Bottomline… we were very happy. We will stay again.
- 4/5
Lovely old world charm!
- 5/5
The hotel staff is gracious and attentive, and especially welcoming in the lounge, with its private-club vibe as the place for continental breakfast and afternoon snacks. The decor is classy but ready to be refreshed. Nevertheless, housekeeping is top-notch and maintains the hotel's charm and appeal
- 5/5
If you like 100 year old hotels (we do!) this is a great one! We walked 25,000 steps one day from the hotel - convenient to theaters, Central Park, High LIne, 5th Ave, etc. Hotel was very quiet and has a wonderful comfortable lounge stocked with free snacks all day and just enough breakfast foods to start the day. Small bathroom but well appointed. Will definitely stay here again.
- 3/5
The mattress was saggy- if you don’t have a great back, you will be in pain. TV in cabinet with doors that are in the way when open. No way to charge a phone close to the bed. A once elegant hotel that’s in disrepair. Needs an entire renovation.
- 5/5
We loved everything about this hotel! The staff were outstanding. The beds and pillows were so comfy.. the chill lounge was a great place to have a coffee and rejuvenate …they had wonderful snacks …Thank you for a fabulous NYC experience!!
- 5/5
We have stayed at the hotel many times. Highly recommended!
- 5/5
The staff was very professional and helpful. They were able to help me with every request and offered help beyond what I would have even asked for. Very conveniently located. We were near everything we wanted to do. I would definitely stay here again.
- 5/5
We always feel right at home here! Wonderful breakfast and comfy living room area with water, tea and snacks available until midnight!
- 5/5
The monkey bar is such fun!
