Best Western Plus Marina Gateway Hotel

The staff was great and the room was clean. The showerhead and tub faucet had some build up, but nothing crazy. The bed as really soft and that's not the best for my back, but I was able to sleep. One thing to note, if you stay on the side of the hotel facing the restaurant there is loud music on the weekends. We didn't mind it, actually we enjoyed it, but someone with little ones might not find that appealing.

I like to have occasional staycations since I live with my parents, and this hotel is close and always a good stay. The rooms are clean, the staff is always nice. There's live music on Fridays at the restaurant next door, but it ends at 10pm, so as long as you're not trying to sleep early, it's perfect for a getaway. It's super close to the freeway, so the location is convenient as well.

I liked the style of the property and the staff was nice. It was a bit cold during my stay so I didn't get to do any water activities as it shows so I dont know if I would've liked the pool or not but over all my room was clean and my kids didn't complain so that made my stay better

Second stay at the property. Plenty of free parking. Sessions, the onsite restaurant was vibing & on fire, with good food, drinks & other adult activity!:) A must-visit if staying at the property. Check-in was a breeze & the model of superior customer service, no different from the 1st time. Common areas were clean & tidy. The carpet in my room needed a bit more vacuuming but otherwise, room was clean & neat. The other highlight of my stay was the absolutely comfortable bed that guests may not want to get out of. What would be very helpful & welcoming after a long day of sightseeing & gallivanting around SD is if the hotel would institute a quiet after 10/11pm policy so that guests could rest for the evening to rinse & repeat the next day. Overall, the BW Plus Marina Gateway Hotel is worth the stay & will continue to be my go-to lodging when in the area.

I have stayed here a few times and the staff are always friendly. The rooms are always nice and clean. There are no issues finding parking. The pool and jacuzzi are nice and clean.

Great location. Breakfast not included, rooms need renovation. We booked via 3rd party and were put in bottom floor assessable room. Front desk check in staff were not friendly or welcoming. Coffee machine in lobby was dirty and didn’t work. Message on the machine indicated that a cleaning tablet was needed.

There is no breakfast unfortunately. Something I was hoping for since we had our 2 year old with us. There is a restaurant across the parking lot though. Also the rooms will not get cleaned unless you need it and call the front desk for it. Staff was very welcoming. Danny did a really good job taking care of me when I got there.

This Best Western Plus was in a great location. It was near other restaurants and stores, gas stations that was convenient. The interior decor of the hotel was elegant and beautiful, including my room. The landscaping on the outside was gorgeous and relaxing. I really enjoyed and was satisfied with my three day stay at this hotel. It was truly wonderful! No complaints with my stay.

It was very convenient being right off the I5. However it is not a quiet place. At least in the back. Trains coming and going all night blowing their horns. Trucks coming and going all night honking their horns. Back up beepers going all day. Restaurant is across the parking lot and you pay for breakfast. But parking is free and had a lot of spaces except on Fridays and Saturdays. Had free water refilling stations. Overall we were very happy.

The room wasn’t very clean. There were marks of where a cup was on the desk, which shows it wasn’t wiped. There was hair on the toilet and in the bed under the cover.

We checked in and went straight to dinner. After coming back we noticed what looked like cat poop on our bed. They came immediately and changed the bedding, but come on. After further inspection, there was a pubic hair in the bathroom sink. While we were sleeping around 4am, I heard a loud noise, but didn’t think much of it. When we woke up I noticed that the curtain rod had fallen. What a joke. We high tailed it out of there.

Not enough coffee dispensers, and I didn’t see much for breakfast or snacks promoted there.

First, the staff at check-in. Secondly the bed had comfortable sheets, but the lamps didnt work, TV wouldn’t work, no trash bags in the trash bins (assuming the cleaners forgot). Lastly, sink hardly had any water pressure and oddly misplace

Pool was drity with jacuzzi was green strangers will just come in the pool with out even being a hotel guest tv was broken. Bathroom was dirty bed was stained.

Toilet was clogged. They brought a plunger. I’m a customer not a plumber. They didn’t clean my room. When we returned there was a do not disturb sign on the door. We never placed it there. Overall. Not a good experience.

I really liked the location of my room- very quiet and having a balcony was worth the price upgrade. The bed was very comfortable. Parking was easy and the staff easy and nice to deal with. Only one weird complaint- the screen door my room’s balcony was stuck closed and I could only get out to the deck by forcing it off its track. I felt like it was going to break apart so I only opened it as far as needed so I could get in/out.

That they put me in a room with mold in the bathroom.Somewhere and Told me that they didn't have any other rooms.But when they had to move me , then they found one.. I don't like the fact that staff lied to me but housekeeping was great.Making suck really bad. They try to cover up the mode smell with a spray which was not okay , unacceptable.

This hotel saved our opinion of San Diego area hotels. We booked a last minute stay here after a booking at another location went terribly awry and can't say enough nice things about the decision. Hotel staff were very professional and courteous and the lobby is well lite and greets you with an adornment of beautiful fresh flowers. Room was clean and welcoming with a very clean fridge and coffee nook. Location is also great for a suburb of San Diego, uber rides are about 15 minutes out from most of the main SD attraction sites, but the hotel itself is within walking distance of a Starbucks and In&Out so if you are here without a car it's still near some creature comforts. Will definitely stay again in the future - highly recommended.

Only Bad thing I have to say is I had black mold in my shower. All other amenities were fine. After a long day of travel and having my room I decided to stay in the room because I had just unpacked and didn’t want the hassle.

It is neat and comfortable. Rooms are clean and spacious. Polite officers. Far from major attractions. You will have to uber at least $15 to get to the Marriot area where some of the attractions are. There is no breakfast and only one restaurant close by.

Front desk polite and courteous, clean room, everything worked, I stayed at room 114 which is right in front their laundry/service area. I entered the room at 6:30pm and until 9pm always the door open, loud employees conversations, carts noises, all started again 6am until I left 7:30am That room should not be available for guest, poor experience.

Staff was very friendly and the room was clean. It just took forever to get cold in the room.

Pros: convenient location, lots of places to eat nearby, right off I-5, comfy beds, lots of free parking and friendly staff, lots of hot water. Cons: the water pressure in the shower is the worse, you're practically standing up against the wall to get dribbles of water, AC tends to knock on and off throughout the night making the room temperature inconsistent.

Great check in experience but my room was not cleaned well. Numerous chest hairs in the tub…I don’t think the tub had been cleaned at all. Water pressure in shower was only moderate and the shower head was so close to the ceiling that anyone shorter than 5’4 wouldn’t be able to reach it.

A good hotel especially for the price. Served my family of 5 well for a 3 night stay. The housekeeping staff were very nice and helpful. We appreciated the free filtered water daily. Also used the pool and hot tub. They were out of towels when we first arrived but were refilled while we were there. Overall a good experience.

We had stayed here before and it was great, and so was the Kimball's next door. This time there was no room for us, even though we had a reservation. And we had a hard time finding a room for 2 nights. That the woman named Reyna was pretty rude when explaining the situation to me. We are never using Booking.com ever again!

Nice place. They wanted to charge $25 for an early check in (30 minutes early!) so that was lame. Comfy and clean and quiet.

The beds are rooms are terrible and so are surprise charges after you leave.

The property is nothing special no free breakfast either. They added also added a $100 charge to my card after I checked out and I booked on Expedia then get home and they changed the card again $109.

I love this place. Everyone is professional and it’s always clear.

If you are a regular and always request a room away from the nightclub and you reserved a room a month in advance….don’t give a room that nobody wants because of the noise level. I was moved to a quieter room with ac issues.

The lobby, hallways, elevators were very clean. I had a king suite with a sitting area and work space. My room was clean and comfortable. Due to the proximity of the Navy base, many of them stayed here as well. They were all very well behaved and my 1 week stay was restful and quiet. I would definitely stay here again.

We only received flat sheets when we asked for replacement linens and had to call back for blankets. My only issue was the T.V that did not work we had to call for service multiple times until they finally replaced the T.V. parking gets hard to find especially since they share the lot with two different restaurants, the staff friendly. Complimentary coffee, hot tea and hot cocoa is such a nice touch. The rooms decent nothing to complain about

Nice view of the Pacific Ocean and several US Warships docked there. Also looks down on vintage trollies on tracks. The ocean side was shielded from loud live music from the nearby Kimball Restaurant till late hours every night. I would not want to hear the loud music and percussion on the windows on that side. Hotel was sparkling clean, nice grounds with manicured palm trees over a nice clean hot tub. Even the pool was heated to be comfortable. Not many hotels do that. Bravo! Friendly staff. Even friendly patrons. Real nice! Discount at Kimballs and Dennys. Bed super comfy. Needed that. Super sharp young Marines having meetings and exercises and staying here. Impressive. A tv glitch was corrected by an old experienced Filipino from Boracay (nice place) and he was proud to fix it (a torn cable connection). I was pleasantly surprised. I come to San Diego three times a year and i will defintely stay here when I visit. Even the price was great - low. Check it out.

I really enjoyed the easy parking and the friendly staff who accommodated my request for a downstairs room because I was traveling with a child. One small thing I missed was having a hot cup of coffee in the morning; the drip machine was out of order, and I noticed many used cups left behind, which made it a bit less convenient. I mentioned it to the front desk, and they were aware of the issue. It might be helpful if a sign were posted or the machine were temporarily removed when it’s not working, but overall, this is a warm and family-friendly place that I would recommend.

Everything was almost good! But floor of upstair to rooms dirty, seems not be vacuumed . Our room not be cleaned by house keeper daily, maybe you must request the service. Walls not be insulated good so could hear the noises outside of room. Receptionists were good, the Xmas tree & decorations were nice, coffee machine ready to use in lobby, everything in there be cozy.

Room was clean. No hot water in the shower, called front desk, maintenance came and he said that too many guests are taking showers at the same time. We were on the first floor and we were bothered by train noise passing by, came to find out that our window was open, someone could have climbed in and stole our belongings.

The floor is thin, so you can hear every step from the upstairs. People at the hot tub were smoking and drinking, which made it hard to enjoy swimming.

They didn’t tell us until after we had eaten at Denny’s that you could get a discount there if you showed your key card. They also didn’t let us know that they have a few golf holes you can utilize during your stay.

A lot of places to eat around the area, and it’s easy to get around and parking is easy also! About 25 mins away from the airport so that’s not bad either. Overall the property and stay was great!!

En general el hotel está bien, es limpio, tiene excelente ubicación y el personal brinda excelente atención, solo falta un poco de mantenimiento ya que especialmente el baño estaba un poco deteriorado

Everything was perfect - the only thing was that I was on a non smoking room and the hallway on our way to our room smelled like weed, and our room smelled like it aswell , and when we checked out and told front desk - they kinda were not concerned and stated it might be because there’s a dispensary next door . So I’m hoping it doesn’t alway smell like that - but over all the room was clean and I like the location so I’m willing to give it another try and hope it doesn’t smell like that on my next visit .

I’m not sure why this hotel has a 9.2 rating. It was decently clean but the bedding was very scratchy and the bed was just okay. It was fairly loud but we were on the first floor. Overall not terrible but wouldn’t recommend unless you’re going to the Sessions Lounge and you don’t want to drive afterward.

What a nice hotel in National City. The staff is very friendly, the rooms are very clean and comfortable. They also offer you complimentary coffee from one of those fancy machines were you can pick a cappuccino or a latte, etc. You are also very close to several restaurants that include: in and out, Denny’s Mc Donald’s..etc. Almost forgot the room also has a small refrigerator and a small microwave.

Great location off highway. Beautiful property and the lobby was beautifully festive for Christmas holiday season.

They are usually a good hotel. I always stay there, but this time the room had trash. There was an insect on the floor and smell bad.

Everything went fine but the elevators (2) were not working so we had to take our luggage down via a staircase. I reported it to the front desk but they said they were not aware of the issue. The stairs were carpeted so we managed well. Our biggest issue is that we were on the 2nd floor and above us was a family with a child that continued to run back and forth from 11pm until 1 when I finally called the front desk. Our suggestion is to place families on the ground floor. Also, this place is located next to a nightclub and it was extremely loud if you were staying on the front side of the building - we were not.

Grate staff went to a graduation for my brothers big day and this place of very chill and maintenance is some knowledgeable people.

This is the first Best Western I stayed at that did not offer breakfast. They never serviced our room. meaning no additional towels were given. I called the front desk to ask for towels to be delivered twice, and they never came, so we ended up having to take some from a random cart. Additionally, our trash was running over, so we had to go take it out ourselves or leave it in the hallway. There were some sewage issues, as on two mornings we woke up to the smell of sewage in the toilet. The front desk staff was friendly upon arrival and when we left.

I have booked this hotel since 6 years ago and I always loved the staff and comfortable beds. I got room 451 this time and I didn’t sleep that comfortable as in other rooms before. I would appreciate if staff is nicer when we do the check in. I felt like I was requesting a room for free. Thank you.

Room was spotless, clean, modern. The lobby had complimentary coffee and hot chocolate that was very nice. The outdoor pool was actually warm and the jacuzzi was a nice temperature. The only bummer was that only one elevator was working so there was a bit of a wait. We would stay in this hotel again, it was really nice. Danny was great when we checked in to the hotel! He was very courteous and professional.

Was not offered the free drinks deal as indicated on Expedia booking. The body wash dispenser in shower was empty. No daily refilling of coffee k-cups in room. Otherwise the room was clean and comfortable with fridge and microwave. Free parking with a restaurant and bar next door. Walking path near “wildlife” reserve. Convenient to the freeway.

It's was clean

The room was very well cleaned. Having OCD I rarely give 5 stars but this place received one from me. From the bedroom, to the bathroom, to the refrigerator. Free bottle water given. Excellent customer service with a true smile. Great free cappuccino coffee machine in the lobby all night and day. They even still have daily news papers which I love. Sound proof windows from the outside noise because there are 2 bar/restaurants next to the parking lot. Black out shades from morning sunrise if you are not ready for the early morning due to an awesome night. Heated pool and jacuzzi until 10 pm daily. Vending machines with great snacks/soda/energy drinks. Laundry and workout facility well kept. Thank you for all that you guys do to make people feel the money they spent was greatly appreciated.

I loved the hotel — the rooms, the amenities, everything was great — except for one issue. My room was not cleaned on the second night of my stay. My wife was told that housekeeping was only available upon request, but we were never informed of this policy, nor were we asked. That’s very disappointing. I would have gladly given a 5-star review, but this oversight made my stay less pleasant.

The hotel offered clean, comfortable accommodations for a reasonable cost. The hotel staff were friendly and welcoming. The only thing that could have enhanced the stay would have been a light, continental buffet breakfast. I enjoyed my stay and would return in the future.

We had a quick stay and unfortunately couldn't take advantage of all of the amenities but our was clean and quiet. The staff was friendly and I was surprised to have been greeted with a complimentary gift when we arrived. I'll be staying here in the future.

Couldn’t have been any better. Staff is FANTASTIC!! So kind and helpful. The inside facility is spotless and fresh. We were given a bag with water bottles upon check in and everyone at the front desk was kind. We asked for room service to bring us more towels and they were so fast. The room was spotless clean as well. Will definitely be staying here again next time.

The staff was friendly and the room was clean and comfortable but only one of two elevators worked the entire 5 night stay and the “working” elevator would not operate on occasion. The vending machines required exact change and although equipped with card readers the readers said they “were not able to accept cards at this time.” The property fell short of expectations.

The soap dispenser in the shower was detached from the wall and the AC was blowing a weird smell...like wet clothes.

The hotel staff was very nice and helpful whenever we needed anything. I booked two rooms, and one of them had a broken TV, but it wasn’t a big deal since my family was mainly there just to sleep. Everything else was excellent, and it was definitely worth the price we paid.
