Reviews
The hotel generally receives positive reviews for its location, breakfast, and staff. However, some guests have expressed dissatisfaction with the room quality and certain interactions with staff.
- Beautiful location with great views
- Excellent breakfast options
- Inconsistent room quality
- Occasional poor customer service
- 3/5
The room was clean but did have an odd smell. Parking was difficult one day because of an event but the staff was helpful. The breakfast was good. This hotel is right off the interstate which is convenient but it is also loud - you can hear it at night. Overall the stay was fine, but probably wouldn’t stay there again.
- 5/5
We stayed on the lower level and a patio with chairs looking at the water. The room was spacious and clean. The hot water was fantastic, with plenty of pressure. The breakfast in the morning was extensive, cereal, oatmeal, fruit, veggie frittata, scramled eggs, bacon, sausage, and Belgian waffle maker! There is also a bar where you can ask for your favorite coffee, Espresso, Cappuccino, or Latte, to be made on site! Our favorite amenity were the bikes available to use! There is a bike path behind the Acqua that you can take to Sausalito(3.5 miles) and if you want more of an adventure, follow to and over the Golden Gate Bridge to Downtown San Francisco! There's a wonderful activity trail that goes along Crissey Field all the way to Embarcadero. After exploring San Francisco, catch a Ferry back to Sausalito and take in the views!

Friendly stuff, linens smell too strong of bleach, which makes me nauseous .
- 4/5
However, the biggest issue was the staff and overall attitude, which really affected our experience. We were traveling with a child and were initially placed in a very noisy room. Be careful when booking — the hotel is located right next to a highway, and some rooms get significant road noise. I explained that it would be impossible for us to sleep in those conditions, but instead of resolving the situation, we were told we could switch rooms only by paying extra. This felt very unfair — in situations like this, I believe a hotel should offer a solution or upgrade, not force guests to pay more. We also had a very unpleasant situation with the EV charger. After our Tesla finished charging, my husband returned the adapter, but later I was surprised to receive an email saying we hadn’t returned it — and we were charged for it not once, but twice. I called the hotel multiple times to resolve the issue, and the staff were rude and insisted the adapter had not been returned. Only after three calls did they finally admit it was their mistake. Unfortunately, the issue is still not fully resolved — the charges have not yet been reversed, and I have not received any confirmation by email. Overall, while the hotel itself is good, the service and handling of issues were very disappointing.

Always a pleasure staying at acqua

Lovely amenities, excellent breakfast buffet, and helpful staff.
- 4/5
Property was well located, and the staff was very friendly
- 5/5
Nice breakfast. Clean, large room. Quiet in this room. Easy to get to.
- 4/5
The mountain view was very impressive and the lake was very peaceful.
- 5/5
Breakfast was stocked well nothing ran out .their was ample parking .The staff was friendly and helpful
- 5/5
Excellent and well staffed
- 4/5
It’s a very nice property very clean. The breakfast was really good. The pillows were the worst. Did not sleep well.
- 5/5
I am so pleased to be able to say that I enjoyed every single aspect of my stay. Staff was kind, easy going, efficient, informative and friendly. My junior sweet was quaint, sparkling clean, perfect, honestly. I very much appreciate that ownership keeps the rooms fresh and modern. Upgrades are incredibly expensive, but they appear to have been mindful and it shows. My balcony was nice and large, overlooking the water. Fresh air, a large glass of wine and some snacks, and life was feeling pretty amazing!
- 5/5
What a gem of a hotel! Awesome service, clean and very nice rooms, great amenities and guest treats, delicious hot breakfast and fresh coffee at all hours. Stay here you will not be disappointed! Super close to SF downtown as well… what a place!
- 5/5
This might top the list of favorite hotels! The staff truly goes above and beyond to welcome you and make you feel special! The breakfast, the specialty coffee bar, the happy hour, the cookies, the view, the comfy beds, the free bikes, etc... Gustavo was super helpful with recommendations, but the entire staff was super friendly and helpful. Thank you! 💚
- 4/5
Mattress was excellent. Room was very clean. Staff were pleasant and helpful. Breakfast was excellent uncommon in American Hotels, but comparable to fine Hotels in Europe. No obnoxious facility fees.
- 5/5
clean everywhere evening wine and cookies in upstairs glass-walled room was lovely
- 4/5
Beautiful Place, Good service
- 5/5
Room was very nice and clean. Staff was very kind and helpful
- 5/5
All were good from check in to room to breakfast to staff to evening service to delicious cookies
- 5/5
Loved this place. Loved the view, the room, the breakfast, the fire pit.
- 5/5
Absolutely
- 5/5
staff was incredibly friendly. hotel was charming.
- 5/5
very friendly staff and nice touches like complimentary coffee, wine, cheese, and cookies
- 3/5
The location is near Highway, but you can not hear any noise inside
- 5/5
Spacious room, friendly staff. Brought our dog along and had a room with a patio door that opened out to the waterfront.
- 5/5
excellent room, staff and amenities!
- 5/5
The staff was exceptionally nice and went above and beyond
- 5/5
The lobby and breakfast room were freezing.
- 2/5
We got the smallest room in the worst part of the hotel. Room 101 a deluxe room it was not and the so called view of bay was a little sliver. This was a total bait and switch from the water view room pictured on Expedia. Plus room 101 is closest to the freeway due to the only outside wall. My wife hated the small award room!
- 5/5
Clean room, wine/cheese, also a great breakfast with veggie frittata and cappuccinos.
- 4/5
Great location. Excellent service. It had a ice machine with a water dispensing feature. The breakfast was excellent. we are planning to stay there again.
- 4/5
Staff was courteous and helpful
- 5/5
Beautiful clean room, friendly helpful staff, delicious breakfast.
- 5/5
Balcony, nice view
- 5/5
Staff was very helpful and nice. Views are great. Brunch is delicious. Very relaxing vibe all around.
- 5/5
Beautiful rooms, great breakfast and view
- 3/5
Room was spacious and clean. Too much traffic noise.
- 5/5
Staffs were very nice.
- 5/5
Comfortable. Good location. Pretty.
- 5/5
Great option if you need a comfortable hotel in Mill Valley
- 4/5
Small but solid room with a great view of the lake. Nice breakfast and super friendly staff.
- 1/5
I was given room 101 and the door faces a busy road and parking lot. It was too noisy to sleep. The room had a moldy smell and the ac did not work properly. The manager said they were fully booked so no upgrades available. He gave me a $40 credit. I did not stay overnight and left at 10pm. I will not stay here again.
- 5/5
Great stay
- 4/5
Nice little hotel with accommodating staff.
- 2/5
What I didn't like was the booking errors. What I entered into Expedia wasn't what the Hotel showed in their records.
- 5/5
convenient location, clean rooms, good breakfast(especially coffee), friendly receptionists. Especially liked wine and cheese in the evening.
- 5/5
We had a fabulous trip and stay in Mill Valley, at the Acqua Hotel. Really enjoyed the hotel, from the large and varied breakfast, spacious and comfortable room and great location that was close to everything we wanted to see. A short car ride to SFO Airport for flight.
- 4/5
It's a pretty good hotel. The close proximity to the Muir Woods and SF was very convenient for our family trip. However, it felt a bit short of my expectations. There were some minor issues and even with the free breakfast and parking, I didn't find it a good value based on the amount we paid.
- 4/5
pillows could be upgraded, other then that great stay!
- 4/5
Our room was on the ground floor and we could hear people walking in the room above us which was a little annoying.
- 4/5
The hotel is lovely. I have stayed there many times, always on the second floor. This time my room was on the first floor, and the noise from above and in the hallway outside the room was terrible. I will ask for a second floor room for future stays.
- 5/5
Very clean. Attentive staff. Good breakfast. Nice to have wine and cookies in the evening.
- 5/5
Very friendly staff, great wine choices for a complimentary happy hour in the evening, warm cookies when we returned from dinner, convenient 24 hour tea and coffee area, amazing free breakfast with a view…. And on and on. We stayed here and spent our time in Sausalito and then went on to San Francisco- the location of this hotel was very convenient. I would definitely stay here again.
- 5/5
Chose to stay outside of the city this trip, will be back again and again!
- 5/5
It was a beautiful and unique property. The service was excellent, wine and charcuterie from 5-7 and breakfast in the morning until 10am. The rooms were clean and updated with a water view! The rooftop atrium was superb. Definitely a go to!
- 5/5
Only downside was that the hotel is right next to the highway which can be heard from your room if you a light sleeper.
- 4/5
Staff and facilities were excellent. Very good breakfast choices but some variation in hot foods offered would be appreciated. Main problem we had was that location of hotel next to highway makes it complicated to drive to and from other locations in Mill Valley.
- 5/5
Great location to go to Sausalito and Muir Woods. Awesome breakfast and happy hour. Rooms quiet and clean.
- 3/5
The reception staff was too busy working on paperwork with another person to check us in. I almost never complain about my hotel stays, but we had high expectations for our stay based on site pictures and reviews.. (and the price point) This is an old hotel that is pretty clean, but not a place that I would stay again.
- 4/5
Staff was amazing, rooms were clean/nice and loved the little balconies. The view/sitting area out the back was nice as well. No restaurant or bar on property made it hard and the area wasnt one we wanted to go venture out.
- 5/5
Na
- 5/5
Very Clean room
- 3/5
The location is nice! The lobby is nice. The complimentary breakfast was fantastic- the room was basic- dog friendly room with patio, hard to sit out there the furniture didn’t have any cushions. The biggest negative is how loud it is! Do not stay if your looking for a quiet retreat- ground level rooms you hear everything and every person. The staff is very friendly and personable.
- 5/5
Great location - Convenient and scenic. Service was one of the best we have received. Enjoyed our stay with the family very much.
- 5/5
Amazing everytime!!!
- 5/5
Feels like a bed and breakfast, great access to the whole area
- 5/5
Great rooms, great views, great staff, great perks, marred slightly by the location right next to the 101 freeway and in an office park. Lots of noise when sitting outside, ok in rooms, and nowhere to walk to. But, if you can get past that, which is significant, you get modern rooms, all with a view of the bay, free breakfast (which is seriously good), free bike rentals, free wine and cheese in the evening, free cookies at night, friendly service, and the Bay. No view of SF, but nice mountain view. Will be boggy depending on tide, but waterfowl didn't care. Nice bike/walking path around, just nowhere you can actually walk to under a few miles, i.e., no restaurants, bars, etc. But again, other than that and the freeway noise, this place is top notch.
- 3/5
Good
- 5/5
I would definitely go back again to enjoy the quiet balcony overlooking the bay. Definitely loving the complementary wine, cheese and cookies 😋, yummy!
- 5/5
The hotel is in a great location on the water, clean, bright and spacious rooms. The views are stunning. The breakfast is excellent offering hot & cold options with a coffee bar for lattes, etc. They offer free wine & cheese and cookies everyday. The front desk staff were so very nice too. The one downside was not having a safe in the room especially when you’re on the frat floor with sliding glass doors. Other than that, we enjoyed our stay.
- 5/5
Everything about Acqua was superb. A great breakfast (included), Happy Hour, cookies at night, staff, the property itself. We would happily return if we visit again in the future. Noteworthy were staff members, Genevieve, Phron, and Randy. Extremely helpful and knowledgeable.
- 4/5
Great location!
- 5/5
Great amenities, loved the breakfast and wine and cheese in the evenings.
- 1/5
Bed bugs.. weird smells. Bathroom wasn’t clean.
- 4/5
Great location for visiting other cities. Very windy though. Wine was very good. Staff very friendly but had plumbing problems. No water while plumbers worked.
- 4/5
I would stay here again. The common seating areas were beautiful, and between breakfast, wine and cheese, and evening cookies there was always a small touch to elevate the stay. Very convenient location to catch the highway into San Fran or to go deeper into Mill Valley. The hotel is right beside a highway which surprised me but once checked in that was easy to forget. And, the walls into the hallway could use a little sound proofing as I could hear the knocks on other doors. But again these felt minor enough that I would stay again.
- 5/5
Everything was excellent!
- 5/5
Quiet. Nice room. Nice view from the back patio
- 5/5
Quiet and clean
- 5/5
Great breakfast; love the area; you can rent bikes
- 5/5
Loved the warm cookies and afternoon drinks. Will recommend and come again.
- 5/5
It is elegant, understated, and restful - a quiet and peaceful haven close to the city; I've always treasured it. Pluses include free parking and a free delicious American breakfast with everything from bacon, several kinds of eggs, fresh fruit, yogurt, oatmeal, waffles and all trimmings, signature vegetable frittata. They have always maintained the highest standards of cleanliness and use remarkable cleaning products that are not only healthy, but good for the planet. The staff is friendly and competent - eager to help you whatever you need, whenever you need it. When my daughter and I had difficulty with resetting the unusually complex ventilation system, the person at the front desk came to our rooms to set them for us and then teach us how to do it ourselves. It was 11:00 PM! The staff is happy! It seems as though they are seriously valued and treated with respect. The atmosphere is one of gracious welcome that gives a feeling that each guest is truly appreciated. I can't recommend this too highly!
- 5/5
We loved the small touches .. for example cookies in the evening and a wine and cheese hour ! We loved the views from our room as well ! Overall a great experience!
- 4/5
Shower head was low and the room had an odd smell, but we were able to open the sliding glass doors and air it out. We stayed here during our visit to Muir Woods and San Francisco. Wonderfully located for both! We would stay again.
- 5/5
Decent location with great service and nice clean rooms. Breakfast was just OK, but the hors d’oeuvres our was very nice.
- 5/5
Nice place to stay near San Francisco. Close to downtown and the Golden Gate Bridge. Very friendly staff. Good breakfast. Highly recommended!
- 5/5
Very friendly staff, breakfast was excellent.
- 5/5
We had a fabulous stay! The front desk staff were so friendly and incredibly kind to our little Boston Terrier — giving her toys, treats, and TLC. Our room had a terrace that looked out onto a peaceful body of water, like we were a world away from the bustle of things. High ceilings, a comfy bed, and a stylish bathroom were some of the highlights we enjoyed in our room. Not to mention an abundant continental breakfast each morning. We would love to stay here again!
- 5/5
Everything was excellent
- 5/5
Loved the little patios that the first floor suites had. Despite being right by the 101, it was very quiet and serene. Location was perfect cause you can zip to Muir Woods or the beaches quickly and you can get to SFO in under an hour when not in rush hour traffic. The wine and cheese at 5pm and cookies at 7pm were a hit with all the guests, and a nice touch. The staff were wonderful, especially Phron. We are coming back and hope to take the bikes out !
- 5/5
Very nice and accommodating. Staff Genevieve was very helpful and Alfredo who assisted with the evening accommodations was very nice and helpful.
- 5/5
The staff was incredibly friendly and helpful. Huge rooms. Great breakfast and wine, cheese and fruit for happy hour..
- 5/5
Very pleasant experience. We enjoyed beautiful view, friendly staffs, and good daily wine cheese reception.
- 5/5
We enjoyed our stay. The surprise upgrade on our room was very nice. The staff were very friendly and accommodating. By far one of the best places we have stayed at. A great way to start our vacation!
- 3/5
Everything was nice accept the placement of a loud family adjacent to my room
- 5/5
Jonathan at front desk is exceptionally good; Very helpful and efficient . Room is nice and clean. Nice place for family and friends to get together
- 5/5
Overall we are very impressed with the hotel. We enjoyed all the complimentary amenities onsite and the room was clean and comfortable. Staff was friendly and helpful. Ambience was very spa like and so cozy. We love it. We will definitely be back. Thank you.
- 5/5
Absolutely gorgeous location and wonderful staff.
- 5/5
Hidden jem with walking distance to luxury car dealership
- 5/5
Staff is amazing! Nice, quick to assist and the property is beautiful. Will be staying here again.
- 3/5
The staff was nice and hotel was quiet. Hotel seemed a bit run down. Needs a refresh. It was clean and good location
- 5/5
Very pleasant! Good breakfasts! Lovely helpful staff!
- 5/5
Clean, neat and modern. Great breakfast. Beautiful setting nice people.
- 4/5
I enjoyed my stay. However, while the room was very quiet, early in the morning carts were moved in the hallway, creating noise.
- 2/5
It was wayyyyyy overpriced for the condition it was in. Bathroom extremely dated, the mirror was broken on the corner edges. The complementary breakfast was terrible. The pillows were also terible and uncomfortable. I honestly wish I would've chose somewhere else to stay.
- 5/5
We loved everything about the property. They were attentive when the fire alarm accidentally went off and when there was an issue with the fireplace in our room. We were even upgraded. Microwave may need updating.
- 5/5
Excellent! Staff terrific. Exceeded expectations!
- 5/5
The hotel room was pretty and the bathroom in our standard room was wonderful. The staff was courteous and helpful. We would definitely stay here again.
- 5/5
Great staff!! Ended up in an upgraded room that was a 2 room suite. Large and comfortable. This hotel is next to a very busy hwy. but the layout does mitigate the noise mostly. The bed was very comfortable. Large bathroom with a tub and shower. Great water pressure in the shower! They offer a couple EV chargers for hotel guest's use...free. they have bikes available. Offer a free breakfast buffet, cookies, evening wine and cheese, and keep coffee going all day.
- 5/5
The Aqua is an awesome place to stay. We had just gotten married. They put a bottle of champagne in our room with chocolates. It was super special.
- 5/5
Well maintained and the front desk was very professional
- 4/5
it is a pretty cozy hotel. we stay on the 1st floor with a balcony facing the lake. the view is pretty nice and the room is not noisy even though it is quite close to the freeway. staff is friendly and helpful. they provide cheese/fruits/wine from 5pm to 7pm and cookies at 7pm; nice touch. continental breakfast (w/ barista service) from 7am to 10am; pretty nice breakfast. overall, it is a pleasant experience.
- 5/5
This is always such a great stay! Beds are amazing. Breakfast is wonderful. Walking trail delightful. There attention to detail has not wavered for the 20 years I have been staying.
- 3/5
Pros: - Amazing staff! Everyone has a smile on their face, and the front desk manager went above and beyond to help me charge my car (he even parked my car for me!!). Seriously - the nicest, most friendly people ever. - Great breakfast, nice to have free tea/coffee throughout the day. Also cookies and wine/cheese is a thoughtful touch. Cons: - Walls and floors are thin, you hear everything - Bed and bedding were not the most comfortable - While the hotel has amazing views of the bay on one side, the other side is directly over a busy (and loud) freeway Overall: Still probably the best option in Marin. A solid 3 star hotel.
- 5/5
Breakfast included with the room one would have expected to pay for.
- 5/5
The room was very nice, the bed was comfortable. Thank you for the complimentary bottle of champagne & chocolates for our anniversary. We also loved the breakfast buffet, the afternoon wine & cheese time & the yummy cookies at 7pm.
- 5/5
The lady at the reception was very kind and helpful. The room ( junior suit) was spacious and with all the amenities we need.
- 5/5
The staff was extremely helpful with all of my questions about things to see in the city. I ended up extending my reservation an extra day. The wine cheese and cookies are a nice touch and breakfast is amazing with even a barista.
- 4/5
Over priced but pleasant
- 4/5
Great breakfast with many options.
- 4/5
We stayed in the junior king suite. It was a ground floor unit with a patio to sit and view the bay. We used the fire pits on the second floor screened in sunroom. It was great for the cool nights. They offer wine, cheese and fruit every evening along with fresh baked cookies. This hotel seems to have been recently updated, they thought of everything down to providing cotton swabs and cotton balls in the bathroom. Staff was very friendly. Full breakfast every morning was very good. We loved the location as it was easy to get to Napa Valley, Sausalito and San Francisco. We would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone visiting the area.
- 5/5
Beautiful location, hotel & great service
- 5/5
The staff was awesome! Rooms were comfortable and spacious. The evening wine from 5 to 7 with the fire pits just made a great end to each day. But can’t go on about the friendly staff enough. Would highly recommended.
- 5/5
The staff were very friendly and helpful. The wine and cheese reception and warm chocolate chip cookies were a wonderful addition. Great area. Highly recommend!!
- 5/5
The staff here is amazing, the breakfast was very good, the waffles super good, nice variety of fruit and bread. The location is wondefull.
- 5/5
Good location
- 5/5
Beautiful contemporary property and nearby walking path. Friendly atmosphere with dining nearby in the quaint and safe Mill Valley. A tedious drive nearby to Stinson Beach and The Redwood Forest. Both are well worth a visit! Love this place!
- 5/5
they really do and provide all the little extras that make the stay perfect, friendly staff, wine and cheese reception, great location, very nice rooms, and a very nice breakfast. in all a great place to stay
- 5/5
Our family had a great experience at the Acqua Hotel! An ideal location in Marin. Complimentary breakfast & parking. The hotel runs along side of the highway, but we couldn't hear the traffic at all in our rooms. I believe all rooms overlook Richardson Bay. Extremely courteous staff!
- 5/5
Wonderful service, very comfortable and spacious rooms, great location, right on the water. Truly a great find.
- 5/5
Amazing Hotel with friendly staff! I enjoyed the fresh baked cookies served after their complimentary happy hour. There are lovely hiking trails nearby the hotel. We had the best 28-hour staycation!
- 5/5
Amazing Hotel with friendly staff! I enjoyed the fresh baked cookies served after their complimentary happy hour. There are lovely hiking trails 5 minutes away from the hotel. We had the best 28-hour staycation!
- 4/5
Welcoming atmosphere
- 5/5
The hotel staff are so welcoming, shout out to Genevieve and Pedro, who made our stay the best! This will be our go-to when we visit the area to go to Tiburon or Sausalito or San Francisco area. The rooms are spacious and most of them have views out on to a lake and surrounding mountains. They are clean actually, spotless. There's a beautiful breakfast buffet every morning with an espresso bar! Every evening at 5:00 p.m. they have cheese, fruit, and wine, it's a great time to get to know the other travelers. 7:00 p.m. is when they break out the Cookies straight from the oven. Their bicycles that you can take out, we told them we were going to Muir woods and Genevieve pulled out the binoculars and asked if we would like to take them. They have coffee available 24 hours as well as a tea bar. This really is a very nice hotel close to everything to do in the San Francisco Bay area.
- 5/5
The staff were very welcoming. Its in such a pretty area but close to San Francisco as well. The wine and cheese each evening was outstanding.
- 5/5
Everything was perfect. Good Job!
- 4/5
was a clean and quiet property on the bay, with good breakfast and in a good location
- 5/5
This was a beautiful spot for a weekend am get away. The staff were so friendly. The area is wonderful and there is a walking path that allows you to take a scenic walks to some great dining locations. Also highly recommend Hook Fish Co. Which is also accessible via the walking path. We will definitely stay here again.
- 5/5
Good location, pleasant setting even though you are right on a main road. Free full buffet breakfast everyday and wine and cheese reception each night are great benefits.
- 5/5
Excellent, friendly service.
- 5/5
Excellent staff, breakfast options, clean &quiet comfortable rooms. Nice view.
- 5/5
The front desk staff are excellent. Isaac went above and beyond.
