Reviews
Guests generally appreciate the hotel's location, cleanliness, and breakfast, but have issues with the staff's attentiveness and certain amenities. Some guests have had negative experiences with the staff, and some amenities like the fitness room and restaurants were not available during their stay.
- Beautiful location by the river park
- Excellent breakfast at Paulette's
- Inconsistent staff attentiveness
- Certain amenities not available or malfunctioning

Charming hotel with stunning river views, a cozy bed, and warm, welcoming staff. Paulette's restaurant has been a personal favorite for over 40 years, and there's also a great spot on-site for a relaxed dinner or breakfast. Very minor issues: The toilet was too low to the ground. There weren't any tissues in the room. The reading area outside the elevator on the 3rd floor was not adequately air-conditioned.

Good variety of breakfast items, nice location (beautiful river walks just right across the street of the hotel) and friendly staff. Restaurant, that's part of the hotel, served very tasty meals, we had their salad, salmon and roasted chicken, which were all delicious. Room was advertised with river view - and confirmed in an email with the manager. Our room, however, had a small corner window that overlooked a very messy rooftop and beyond, a sliver view of the river. You would have to stand in front of the window in the corner of the room to get a glimpse of the river.... We spoke to the very helpful person at the front desk who called the manager several times to discuss. The best they could do for us was upgrade us to a larger room at an additional $100 per night ($400 total). Even the upgraded room was not all that special. Very disappointed in the room/hotel and not at all what it was advertised to be. The hallways of the hotel looked like they had not been vacuumed for days. I mentioned it to the front desk, but nothing was done clean it up.

We love this place. The old charm with the intimacy of a small place away from the hustle bustle. Best place to stay in Memphis. It’s not even close.
- 4/5
Quaint, small, safe area, access to other amenities, close to my son’s place, close to downtown without being in downtown Memphis. Lighting in the room & bathroom for applying makeup. I sat by the window to have enough light, which was fine, I had a nice view of the river area.

The welcoming glass of champagne upon arrival was deeply appreciated. I cannot wait to visit the River Inn soon! Thank you all for a wonderful stay.

Our room was nice and quaint. The bed was really comfortable. There is a hidden refrigerator. The only thing that was missing was a microwave, Just in case you wanted to warm your food. The staff was friendly and accommodating. The breakfast was delicious. I loved the grit, and my husband said that was the best French toast he's had in a long time. Can't think of anything negative.

I had a lovely stay at the River Inn. It is a beautiful property, well decorated with beautiful views of the Mississippi River and wonderful thoughtful amenities. This is now my go to hotel when in Memphis.

Paulette’s Restaurant is on the ground floor and a wonderful place to enjoy chef inspired dishes in this 5 star restaurant.
- 2.5/5
Beautiful location. Service in the restaurant was awesome. Food was good quality and well priced. Confusing messaging from the staff. The system teied to charge me twice. Shower hard to figure out. Expensive.

Mud Island location, bathrobes, books, and a fireplace. Marketed as a luxury boutique hotel, the property appears outdated. Small, dark rooms and visibly filthy carpets detract from comfort, and outsourcing breakfast to Tug’s does not meet the expectations of a luxury hotel. The condition of the building itself makes the current pricing and luxury designation unjustifiable.

Location, service, facilities. Wish there were microwaves in my room to reheat my food. The bathtub was luxurious, followed by compliments champagne, a bathrobe and delicious cookies. I loved everything about my stay and will come again. what. The River Inn Terrace was my highlight! Love love love the ambience, jazz and food. Spotted a few ladybugs and one spider that scared me. The food vouchers weren't enough but to only cover a non-alcoholic beverage or appetizer. I wasn't too thrilled about the food at Tugs Grill. Service was great but the food was eh.
- 5/5
Great stay! Very quiet. Onsite restaurants were a plus after a long day of driving. Breakfast was wonderful. Staff was all friendly and answered any questions we had. Beautiful view of the Mississippi.
- 5/5
The great thing about this hotel is the fabulous location with a fine view of the Mississippi. The block is walkable with good restaurants and a small grocery store.

Love the hotel. The resturant was awful. Terrible breakfast it was inedible.
- 5/5
Hotel was very convenient. It’s surrounded by restaurants and within walking distance. There is a park across the street that oversees the MS River. Easily accessible to interstate 40 and the complimentary wine is a plus with the voucher and the wine in the room.
- 5/5
Beautiful hotel and surrounding area. Staff were great. The food was delicious.
- 5/5
Friendly & helpful people, spotlessly clean, lovely breakfast, spacious comfortable room, lovely location.
- 5/5
Always a great spot - the hotel, Paulette’s Restaurant and Harbor Town - an oasis on an island in the MS River with a great view up and down the River.
- 5/5
Beautiful hotel in a lovely area. Very friendly staff.
- 5/5
Love this hotel. Its beautiful.
- 5/5
Pretty view of the river. Walkable neighborhood. Nice check in wine. Several restaurants on property. Comfortable bed
- 5/5
Great location and charming. Room probably could use a little more light. Staff members were very accommodating and friendly. Breakfast at Paulettes was delicious.
- 4/5
The property was very nice. The rooms were also nice, however could have used a better "Dusting". There were a lot of details on the furniture, and without good dusting, you can see all the dust accumulated in the grooves. And you could see dust under the bed. Nothing big. We still enjoyed our stay. Beautiful view if you were on the front side of the building (which we were :-) if the Mississippi River.
- 5/5
Wonderful view, and an amazingly beautiful walkable safe area tucked away with quick access to all downtown Memphis.
- 5/5
Room is pretty good and staff are very friendly. I loved my stay at this hotel.
- 5/5
Great hotel with Paulette’s located inside. Great restaurant. Several other local spots within walking distance. If you want a quick weekend stay in Memphis, this is the place
- 3/5
Fine place for a weekend.
- 5/5
Great place to stay. Safe, within walking distance to some attractions, great free breakfast, friendly staff!
- 5/5
Lovely boutique hotel with attention to detail and in a beautiful neighborhood. Breakfasts were wonderful as was the hidden little bar.
- 5/5
This little hotel was so cute and the free breakfast was great!! Wish we could have arrived earlier to have enough time to check out everything.
- 5/5
Property was clean staff was helpful and restraints and grocery store were convienient
- 5/5
It was a wonderful stay as always. The location and amenities are amazing.
- 5/5
Our hotel room had a wonderful view of the river and was quaint, comfortable and we enjoyed our stay. Highly recommend!
- 5/5
Good service, very welcoming. The area is safe with great views.
- 5/5
Cozy, quiet hotel very close to downtown Memphis, in a beautiful development. Would recommend. TV needs to be upgraded to newer model.
- 5/5
The stay was good as always. I like the safe location. There was one, small issue with the bathroom lights flickering.
- 4/5
While breakfast was supposed to have been included, it wasn’t because the staff informed us that the cook had called in and there was noone at the moment to prepare food. It would have been nice to have an alternative option and to not hear the staff talk about the staff and management issues.
- 5/5
This was a great hotel. Way better than we expected for the price. The rooms were wonderful and the bed very comfortable. The staff were wonderful and very helpful. One staff member went above and beyond for us. I had left my wallet behind. He went and searched the room, and didn't find it. I then remembered it might have fallen in the trash can. He went back to the room again, and this time he found it. He made arrangements for it to be sent to my house and had the FedEX tracking number to me by that afternoon. A huge shout out to this gentleman. Thanks!
- 5/5
Our second stay here. Incredible breakfast at the hotel, quaint Italian restaurant within the same block, cozy boutique hotel. Plan on returning when the opportunity arises.
- 5/5
We had the most amazing weekend staying at the River Inn. The hotel is in the most beautiful area with amazing views of the Mississippi River. Everything was top notch including staff, food, service and hotel amenities. The beds were comfortable and room was spacious. Small town feeling right outside of the hustle and bustle of the city with just a quick uber ride to Beale Street. Cannot recommend this hotel more!
- 5/5
Unique rooms with free breakfast
- 5/5
This is a WONDERFULLY quiet, small high quality hotel that's far removed from busy downtown Memphis. Tiny lobby and respectful well-trained front desk staff was really a pleasant change from most larger hotels. The included DELUXE hot breakfast that you order from the regular menu was fantastic, and easily worth $30 each, but it's included. When they brought the breakfast bill (which I would have been happy to pay), it was "all zeros". Best real fresh squeezed orange juice and homemade zesty Hollindaise sauce on poached eggs I've ever had. Highly recommended.
- 4/5
The hotel’s decor was pleasant but the lobby was dark. Staff were friendly and the room was comfortable. However the bathroom was a little dark and the height of the toilet seemed to be made for a child! The restaurant was nice but service was awfully slow. Dinner was nice but breakfast not so much. The view of the river was breathtaking and the surrounding areas were beautiful and appeared safe.
- 5/5
The room and service were excellent as always. The location was convenient and safe.
- 5/5
Very elegant and quiet. Loved our stay.
- 5/5
Self parking - so convenient - was perfect
- 5/5
Best place to stay in Memphis. Not even close.
- 4/5
Nice and friendly staff. Quiet and clean. Outdated decor. Would prefer a modernized looking hotel.
- 5/5
Hotel right on the river. Staff is extremely helpful and friendly.
- 4/5
Beautiful hotel. Rooms are small and the ice maker broke the 2nd day but the staff is excellent and so was the food in the restaurant.
- 5/5
This property was outside of the city which made it feel much safer. Ample free parking was a plus.
- 5/5
Lovely room, enjoyed the Complimentary champaign at happy hour and the breakfast was amazing with friendly, perfect service. The only negative was the associated restaurant across the street was really bad food and service.
- 4/5
The rooms are lovely and exceptionally clean. The staff was very friendly. I would definitely return for another stay.
- 5/5
This was a great overnight stay…wish I could have stayed another night or two. Checkin/checkout easy, Front desk was so helpful many times, bed was comfy, breakfast was included with lots of choices, very quaint, great area, felt safe. Will stay again!
- 2/5
Nice, clean room with comfortable bed. Did not like the view of 2 parking lots after hotel advertising ALL rooms having view of the river. AC did not work and Memphis is in the middle of a significant heat wave. Therw was black mold all over the HVAC vents.
- 5/5
Wonderful location, great mattress and bedding, free excellent breakfast, waterfront, restaurants, but also quiet. I loved this delightful hotel.
- 5/5
Nice view of the river.
- 5/5
Great location and community
- 5/5
Located in an iconic upscale neighborhood. Everything about the stay was perfect.
- 3/5
The place is moldy smelling and really needs an upgrade
- 5/5
Loved that it is in a quiet, safe neighbor overlooking the Mississippi. The rooftop bar is an added plus.
- 5/5
I felt safe, comfortable and it was clean. Everything I would need was walkable.
- 3/5
Cut our stay short, changed hotels due to musty smell, cobwebs, cramped room - Breakfast at Paulette's was very nice, location by river park is pretty
- 5/5
It’s a gem ! Very unique
- 5/5
Lovely ambience and service. Beautiful room.
- 2/5
Hotel not for a disabled person. Carpets at entry are a tripping hazard. Elevator was broken and had to walk 3 flights if stairs with heavy luggage and a person with disabilities.
- 5/5
The hotel is an elegant throwback to the grand hotels of the past.
- 5/5
I love staying at the Harbor Inn. The HVAC system isn’t the best but everything else is so charming.
- 4/5
Harbor Town was beautiful; a clean, safe and meticulously maintained neighborhood. The hotel staff was not very attentive (phones not answered, no one at front desk on several occasions), the restaurants and their staff were excellent. Also, there was no coffee maker in the room.
- 5/5
It was a good staycation.
- 5/5
Perfect date night for us especially to get away from the standard commercial hotels
- 4/5
Nice place to stay with a wonderful breakfast!
- 5/5
Staff was very friendly and helpful with information about the area. Also loved the made to order breakfast. Being offered complimentary champagne when we checked in was also a nice touch!
- 4/5
Enjoyed the river view, the cleanliness of our room, and the staff was very friendly. Hope to stay here again.
- 5/5
Lovely, intimate feeling hotel. Everything we needed for a restful stay. It was conveniently located near downtown without being in the midst of heavy traffic. Breakfast was free from a very nice menu. I highly recommend this facility.
- 5/5
I loved the location. The service was very good. The location feels safe.
- 5/5
Very quaint and a lovely environment.
- 5/5
Nice hotel!
- 5/5
We loved being by the river. It’s beautiful
- 5/5
I absolutely loved this boutique! Excellent location, friendly workers, & great breakfast.
- 1/5
The bathtub was dirty and did not drain and was very slippery, and my husband slipped and hurt his knee. The carpet was not clean, it had some crumbs of some type of cracker The manager was not very friendly.
- 5/5
Loved it!!!!
- 5/5
Beautiful, quaint area of Memphis that is only 10-15 minute drive from Beale and restaurants. Though there are two restaurants in the hotel, they were both closed due to maintenance. We did get free breakfast across the street at Tug's which was delicious. We loved seeing the river and the surrounding park/landscape. There is a market down the street and some places to eat and shop. Our room was huge with a king bed and pull out sofa. The bathroom also very spacious. There was a fitness room but it was filled with cleaning equipment so it wasn't available. We would definitely stay again if we go back to Memphis.
- 5/5
Very safe and beautiful part of Memphis
- 4/5
It was very pretty and elegant. Our room and bathroom were very dark though, so the lighting could stand to be updated.
- 5/5
The room had a unique armoire with built in tv. It had a nice seating table with chairs. The king size bed was great. The parking and area was very safe. There was a bike path across the street that made it a very fun stay.
- 4/5
Our room was very clean and comfortable. Toilet was loose and couldn't figure out shower at first, but once was did it was fine. I would stay at this Inn again if in Memphis. Beautiful area, very safe, and restaurants were decent. Liked that they had "happy hour". Breakfast was fantastic in very nice restaurant, Paulette's.
- 5/5
Fantastic location and the people gave great service, especially on last-minute requests (laundry service). I really loved my stay here with my husband
- 5/5
Not fond of the Terrace Club
- 4/5
Amazing area
- 5/5
Great stay!
- 4/5
Not great lighting in room; room was nice, service great, but a smell of grilling food throughout the foyer area and halls to elevator. Breakfast was very good for an included meal.
- 5/5
Safe location.

My husband and I stayed here to attend a wedding in town. The hotel was beautiful and the staff was very friendly.
- 5/5
Everyone was very attentive

Beautiful property.
- 5/5
Almost none of the doors were properly hung. An electrical outlet didn’t work
- 3/5
Visited Memphis for a weekend with my wife. We booked the River Inn after reading many good reviews and had high hopes of a great weekend away. The Inn was ok in most every way but did not excel in any. The concierge and front desk person held a nice conversation with each other for several minutes before bothering to recognize us when checking in. The conversation was Not business related. The room appeared dated and small. I would rate cleanliness as fair. A general lack of attentiveness was pervasive from checking in to the rooftop lounge and Paulette’s for dinner (a separate review was done for Paulette’s, not good). For a boutique inn close to downtown without the hustle it was an ok stay, nothing to brag about.
