Comfort Inn Matthews - Charlotte

We always stay at this hotel. It's in a great spot! It does need some TLC though. I reported Saturday morning to the first shift front desk clerk about the toilet seat being loose, but I was told that I would have to change rooms. We had a conference to attend so we had to go. Upon our return I stopped by the front desk to see if the night clerk had an update about the toilet repair. She said that she had not been told about it. Once I reported it to her (Suzanne), she immediately got tools and tighten up the toilet seat! And then she put in a work order to secure the toilet, because it was also moving! I just want to say it's because of Suzanne that I will consider a return, because of her due diligence of correcting this matter! She's what customer service should be all of the time! God bless you! I hope that the management will start to update this hotel. Please start with the a/c vents due to mildew smell. I don't want anyone to get sick!

1 room had strong musty smell. Other had a large hole in the rug.

The room was nasty! The curtains and flooring and lampshades all had stains on them. The bathroom smelled like hot cat piss and the door wouldn’t latch or lock. The door storage on the fridge was all broken off. The coffee cuts were opened and a used dirty fork was sitting on top of the coffee. The beds squeaked every time someone moved. And the room just smelled musty and nasty! Around the hotel you had to go through a gauntlet of tweakers to get to the front desk. Overall, the hotel did not feel safe and was utterly disgusting.

We loved that it was in a great location. Close to shopping areas and variety of restaurants. The location definitely needs some updating. USB ports needs to be installed and just overall, needs updating.

The fluorescent light in sink area is not amenable for applying makeup. It gave us a ghoulish appearance, and we had to finish our makeup in the car. Ironing Board Cover - Sad. No way I was going to put my white capris near it! Handprint high on the headboard suggested prior activity in the bed to which I do not wish to be privy. 😒

Our room was fairly clean however it did appear that the carpet was dirty and in need of being replaced. It looked like it had been patched and started to fray. Breakfast was good, but the breakfast area was way too small to accommodate all of the guest. In general, this hotel needs a renovation. The refrigerator was missing some parts.

Hotel feels pretty old and tired but the room was big and the beds were very comfy - had good sleep the whole stay. The stair at the top of the staircase going from floor 2 into the lobby is a little bigger drop than the rest and I felt like I almost fell twice on it...

First of all , when I got there I was told that I did not have a reservation there but I had one confirmed on expedia. Then I was told that someone else had checked in under my name but my credit card was not used. I was given another reservation. The room was clean but had many issues. The air conditioner did not work and the drain in the sink did not drain well. There was damage to the floor . walls and bathroom door. The luggage rack was broken as was a curtain. We did not eat breakfast there but did have coffee. We will not stay there again.

The lobby smelled like vanilla musk. It was fantastic! Clean, affordable and within walking distance to restaurants and stores. A good choice if you’re going to see a show at the Amp Ballantyne.

The outside of the building looked nice that’s all. The place was horrible period. When you came inside it had an old stale smell. They gave us the room 103 Inside the room the carpet on the floor was literally lifting up and was torn and worn down. You tripped over the parts that were coming apart. The couches in the room were dirty and stained. The absolute worst part is the bed and side tables had this tiny black bugs crawling all over. We informed the front desk they couldn’t get us in another room saying they were sold out. They still charged us for the night we didn’t even stay for because there were bugs crawling all over the beds and side tables and who else knows where else because we refused to sleep in a bug infested bed. The front desk night audit guy didn’t speak a lick of English. The general manager and owner Chet Patel was rude and unruly. Literally basically called us liars and refused to even refund us for a room we didn’t even get to touch or sleep in because we immediately noticed the bugs all over the place. We were charged $85 for that night while still having to leave and go to the hotel across from them and pay $100 to stay in an entirely different hotel and reset the remainder of our stay at a wonderful Courtyard by Marriott hotel that’s in Matthews NC 8 minutes away. The general manager Chet Patel absolutely terrible manager has zero hospitality or customer service. We have videos and pictures on the room and the bugs crawling all over the place. When informed he even put another resident in the room that was big infested which is crazy to me. I hope they noticed those little tiny creepy crawlers. I wouldn’t be surprised if they have bed bugs as well. The bugs weren’t noticeable at first it took several minutes to see them as they were crawling on the white bedding and they were tiny black bugs. I feel bad for whoever stays here and I wouldn’t ever recommend this place to anyone!!!! Absolutely the worst place I’ve ever been to in my entire 42 years of living.

The room doesn't smell great, there is mold in the bathroom ceiling, the tub was clogged,the bedsheets seemed cleaned though.

On top of that, the room smelled strongly of mold, which made the stay very uncomfortable and concerning. There was also a constant burning smell every time we stepped into the elevator, which felt unsafe and unpleasant. I would not recommend this hotel to anyone looking for a clean, welcoming, or professional environment. Management seriously needs improvement, along with better maintenance and cleanliness.”

The room smelled like people had been smoking in it. My husband is an HVAC tech for many years and asked if they could check the filters in the room. They basically said no they had no staff right now. Furthermore, the room was "clean" but it definitely looked shabby. The front door had streaks of dirt on it. The bathroom grout was grey, and the sink was not particularly clean.

I love this Comfort Inn. It's so convenient to stay here. You have stores and restaurants within walking distance. So quiet and peaceful. The staff is very attentive and professional. When I come to visit Charlotte, the Comfort Inn is where I'm staying!

Overall, the trip was really good. My room was clean, staff was friendly, and the location was perfect. The only downside was that there was a fight in the hallway in the middle of the night, so that kept my husband and I up for about an hour, but other than that, everything was smooth sailing!

Not sure how Comfort Inn works, but I didn’t leave the first night because of the front desk lady, she was so kind and tried to fix the issues. This building is horrible. The room was not cleaned before assigned, we got the used soap from previous guests. Toilet broken, stinky. This is not a place to stay with children or family. Only one electric plug working. So, do not take laptops or electronics without your own power supply, because you will not be able to charge it. Breakfast is from 6 to 9, which means that they start cleaning at 8:45, no matter you’re still eating.

While we normally don't stay in a Comfort or Sleep Inn, this one was rated an 8.6 - so how bad could it be? Upon arriving, the lobby was so over-sanitized that the smell was overwhelming. Can only imagine why. Dirty elevator, carpets, exhaust fans, etc. On top of it, the staff was inattentive at best and couldn't even find anyone at checkout. Don't be fooled by misleading ratings!

Very clean & quiet. 2nd time staying while Matthews-Charlotte and had a great experience everytime. Everything is close by; restaurants, fast food, shopping stores, etc. minus the traffic, everything is great!

I’ll start by saying the staff was absolutely phenomenal. In particular Tabitha, who was extremely helpful and did her best to manage our concerns. The breakfast had a good spread (breads, muffins, yogurts, pancakes, waffle maker, sausage, bacon, eggs, potatoes, juices, etc) and well stocked throughout the morning. And the price was absolutely right. But that low price came at a hefty cost of overall hotel condition. It is in desperate need of a major overhaul. Not just the drab browns and old carpet, but the condition of the furniture, the stairs, the ice maker, the overall property itself. It’s just old and it shows. But the worst factor was the smell. Our first room smelled really musty/wet and we considered complaining, but then we found that the refrigerator didn’t work. We need that for toddler’s milk. So we asked to switch which the staff helped accommodate. But the second room smelled even worst (I’d say smelly feet) and based on the smell down the hallway every room was going to smell the same. So we opted to keep the first room, worked with the staff to get the fridge operating (again, thank you, Tabitha, for all your help!) and literally bought a can of febreeze and bombed the room. It helped, even if a placebo effect. Overall I wished I had spent a little more. If you’re passing through and need a place to crash and want a good breakfast, it’ll pass. If it’s part of a vacation, look elsewhere.

The room I stayed in had a ceiling fan in the bathroom that didn't work, keeping the miosture in the room. But that should be remedied as we informed the front at the end of our stay. The staff were extremely helpful and made the stsy very pleasant.

First I want to give positive attention to the staff at this location. The first room we had on the first floor was TERRIBLE! Bug, mold, and everything just terribly worn down. We asked to be moved and were. The second room was on the third floor and a bit less beat up. But I did not feel 100% comfortable at the location. It's not what is advertised. The building is terribly unkept and it's the staff that are keeping the wheels turning there by doing their best to make guests comfortable. But shame on the owners and the brand that allows the current owners to operate under their chain when the place is just really so run down.

Staff was friendly at check in and out, however we did not get to test the gym or try the breakfast, we’re assuming both were good. My biggest problem was the humidity in our room, and the smell of mold/mustiness when you walked in. I’m pretty sure there was mold on the vent above the sink, and I had a consistent headache throughout my trip. My clothes are all damp in my suitcase and even my unworn ones will need to be washed when I get home.

I was under the impression that the pool would be open, it was not. There was an electrical fire that woke us up early in the morning. Granted, that part is not really anyones fault, as I understand things happen, but there were many little things that made this situation worst. however, they did refund me for that night.

My dad and I had such a great stay back in October, we decided to return again last month, this time for a Charlotte Hornets game. Staying here allows us to be close to Uptown, without paying premium, Center City prices. The rooms were even better this time, with beds super comfy as always. Very quiet in this hotel, which is a massive plus. Water pressure and shower amenities are a plus, too. Bacon at breakfast was a much-welcomed surprise! Next time I'm back in Charlotte, Comfort Inn Matthews is the first place I'll look.

The hotel smells like weed, the room smelled like pee and had mysterious stains on the walls and curtains. The phone in the room didn’t work which could be a safety issue if cell service isn’t working because WiFi didn’t work either. Walls are paper thin so you can hear everything your neighbors are doing. Absolutely awful.

However, the room was in a state of disrepair, with visible mold and leaks throughout. The images displayed on Expedia don’t look the same. Hand prints on the headboard, a post card that was written on from a previous guest. Mold in the bathroom, red body fluids on the wall & feces . Absolutely disgusting shame on Expedia for not returning my money. It was definitely not a hotel experience more so haunted hotel with nasty all over it . Big dirty brown spot on ironing board, small bathroom, water did not get but so hot, elevator and room style very old and outdated, even though it was non smoking, everything still smelled like smoke, one of our lights didn't work, the curtains had brown spots all over them, the staff were barely at the desk for help, the breakfast yogurt was spoiled as soon as i got it out the refrigerator looked like they didn't check the dates, the food was horrible and had a nasty after taste, and my bed sheets had spots the second day when hospitality left out my bed was no longer clean. It was not like that the first night. I will NEVER use this hotel again!

The hotel does not match the pictures. When I got to the room, it smelled bad and was not very clean. Everything was old and rundown, the headboard was falling off the wall. I had to leave the room and get another room at the Fairfield Inn. Would not recommend this hotel.

Clean room, such a great location! It’s very walkable to get to everything you need. Bed is comfortable, room is great even though I was in the first floor.

Staff was great, the rest was awful. The entire place had a very noticeable and disgusting odor. The rooms had an even worse smell. Aside from being dated, the entire property, especially the rooms were in disrepair. There was the appearance of mold on the bathroom ceiling and window curtains looked soiled. I could go on and on, but I think I have explained enough.

Every time I come to that area which is pretty often I stay there and this time it wasn't good.I just felt like my room had a really bad smell.But it was more like water drying on carpet, smell something that the hotel of course, couldn't help and my refrigerator froze my milk and my diet cokes and made the biggest mess in there.And I couldn't get anything to work right.And the air conditioning was even off.Normally like I said, I love it there.And whenever I come back, I'll stay there again.But this time it wasn't good.I really think that it's time for that hotel to really, really check their water situation.And their air conditioning et cetera, and get some new refrigerators.

This place was AMAZING! Savannah at the front desk is the true definition of a professional. We had to change rooms due to a smell and unfinished carpet, she took care of us promptly. Beds are super-comfy and rooms spacious. Plenty of dining options nearby, I went to Moochie’s Tavern (open late on weekends). Breakfast is tasty and offers bacon. Love the coffee machine. I stayed here to be further away from the hustle and bustle of Charlotte, this was a great change of pace. Will definitely consider a return in the future!

The room had mold on the ceiling, in the bathroom, and on the curtains. The room was filthy. This was the worst Comfort Inn I have ever stayed in.

When we arrived, the room was dirty but they moved us to a new room right away. The new room was a headache. The AC kept turning off, the blow dryer didn't work and then the TV gave out. The employees tried to help but we eventually had to just deal with it. Luckily it was only a two night stay.

We have stayed here several times over the years and have always been happy with our stay. The only thing that needs to be improved on, is the Wi-Fi service. I your room is not close to the center of the building the Wi-Fi service is weak. Never been a big problem for me, but some repeaters for rooms on the end of the building would be helpful. The Mexican restaurant right next door is great. It is a short walk to the restaurant.

The walls in the bathroom need to be cleaned of stains. The lobby area was clean and welcoming. The location is great for walking to entertainment and getting meals or grocery.

Proximity to a family & friends , because we live in Greenville ,NC ; the motel being close to a mall strip and shops is great as well as local restaurants , pricing of room ok . The pillows were not comfortable as they are probably old and worn out ,& the contents probably worn as well & too much washing & you had to “wad” scrunch them up to give you head-neck support . The morning breakfast was good , but more fruit choices would be nice . You had apples , I would have liked to have Bananas , fruit cocktail , berries, grapes . The coffee was ok and it was too strong & I did dilute too , maybe the brand you use , but I drank only one cup each day . The room was clean and the housekeeping room staffers sure know how to tuck the bed covers “ tight”under the foot of the mattress, lol . For a 34 year old motel , started per the first elevator inspection I noticed in the elevator for 1989 , you did ok ! I will stay again !

Very comfortable bed and great breakfast. The room size was nice I didn’t feel cramped.

Even if I only stayed for a night I did find the accommodations a tiny bit lacking with a few appliances not functioning properly. But, overall I was able to survive one night.

Truly honest review… I almost didn’t stay here because of the reviews. I’m glad I decided to stay. Does the room smell, yes but it’s not horrible and you get used to it. Other than the smell, the room is clean! The bathroom is clean and has great shower pressure. The pool felt amazing! There are several restaurants within walking distance. I felt safe being there as a solo woman traveling alone staying for 2 nights. Both women at the reception area were very polite. Savannah greeted me each time I came in. I would stay here again!

This hotel takes me back to those days. Nostalgic. The carpet has seen better days (the 90s maybe) and the decor hasn’t changed. The room was clean, however, and comfortable. The shower was the highlight, excellent water pressure and plenty of hot water. The last few places we stayed at were much newer, but anemic showers. A good choice for a night’s sleep and a shower, nothing beyond that. Which isn’t a bad thing overall.

Okay place to sleep. The floor I was on was quiet. The AC unit in the room rattled and the room smelled musty.

I love staying here

Terrible room, as soon as I walked in the room was musty spelling. Maybe even moldy one could say. I took a shower and within minute the tub started filling because the drain was clogged. By this time it was late. Went down for breakfast which was surprisingly decent actually. After heading back up to my room my key card was not working. Had to make my way back down to the front desk to have my card programmed. I also told the front desk person my shower is clogged and I would like to shower before I have ti leave in a little. He had no good response on how long or when maintenance would come help. And did not offer any other solution. Just shrugged it off. Needless to say, a terrible experience !

My aunt reserved the room as I was coming into for my cousin's funeral. When I got to the hotel I was told that I couldn't check in until my aunt who was making funeral arrangements was physically present at hotel because room was in her name. I was given no option to get a room by person at desk so I booked one on hotels.com and received an immediate message from the hotel stating they would need a $200 deposit at check-in for incidentals. After much arrangement they let another family member that was also staying there use their card for my deposit. Once we got to the room I could tell housekeeping had straightened room but paid little attention to detail

DO NOT STAY HERE! The property is old, dingy and very run down. I stayed for 4 nights only bc i had pre-paid. Would’ve left after the first night otherwise. Positive: bed was comfortable and clean. Staff were nice. pool seemed cleaned. Negatives: Mold in bathroom(!), leak in the ceiling of my room (from room above), musty smell throughout, strong pot smell (skunk weed!) in hallway for two days. everything just felt gross. didn’t want to walk barefoot on the carpeting or the bathroom tiles. “fitness center” is just a regular small room with same gross carpeting(!). had one tread mill that was broken. luckily planet fitness is .5 miles away. i looked at breakfast offering the first morning. gross. didn’t eat there. always went out for breakfast. they had just highly processed junk food. i’ve stayed in 3 star hotels before. this ain’t one! expedia needs to change this to a 2 star rating or a 3 star with a HUGE asterisk/warning. in a word: gross!

This hotel does everything it needs to do. Nothing more, nothing less. Staff was super friendly and accommodating. The breakfast offered is simple but sufficient. Lots of places nearby to eat and shop. But a little far from the main city. But still doable. Room did have an interesting smell and the mini fridge worked but was water logged. Oh, the holding fee was decent. Definitely a plus. All in all, I would come here again.

The room was clean and comfortable. The only issue was that the room seemed very humid and a very musty/moldy smell coming from the air conditioner. I think they need new air conditioners.

Found a pair of socks and a plastic cup under chair in corner black long hairs multiple places throughout room a/c wouldn’t get to temperature was constantly running didn’t want a frozen room just at 72 seemed to be pushing the unit to its limits. Staff was great and allowed an hour early check in. Thank you. First time in area.

It’s an older property in a great location. Comfortable rooms and really great staff. Breakfast bar was meh! Coffee was about the worst I’ve had in… well…forever. Better coffee moves that rating up an extra star for sure.

The hotel is convenient and nice especially with everything around it. I just felt bad because I got checked in early and the cleaning lady hadn’t even cleaned the room yet from the previous tenants. So she had to clean around me and I tried to not be in her way.

Thought the Bathroom could have been a little tidier and room was a bit stuffy with the old carpet smell. Location was great for our visit purposes very close to shopping, dining and price point is reasonable. Overall I would likely use again but those concerns would be very helpful if they were/are addressed.

I absolutely loved it here. The staff are all friendly, our room was very clean, staff is available 24 hours a day. But what I loved the most is its safe. I always do a camera sweep and check the area do to my military family background, and I must say I would definitely come here again.

Quick overnight stay as we headed up to Maine. The facility was clean, plenty of parking and had a small but efficient breakfast. Staff was super friendly.
