So clean and location is solid!

Other than that, everything was fine. There were reasons this place was so cheap. Had we known, we would have gladly paid more somewhere else. They should just be honest on the hotels.com site. Would have canceled at check-in except for the "no-cancellation" policy

Staff are friendly and helpful, but this is one to avoid. A sketchy motel in a sketchy part of Venice Beach, this place has seen better days. Ignore the website description, which is an exercise in creative fiction: there is no pool, no laundry, and no breakfast. Some rather suspicious characters lurking outside.

the included parking which was neigh enough for the pickup There was a fault in the booking (maybe from my end) and we had to pay for an upgrade to get two queen size beds instead of the one queen size bed. At checkin (through booking.com) the room with two queen size bed's was still available for the exact same price as the single bed room. But the reception did not gave us the room and we had to pay for the "upgrade". Being with my son I and a long day on route i agreed with the extra payment. We ended up in a room on the side of the main street that was very very noisy because of the bad windows. The hotel personnel was blaming the third party being booking.com, which i think was very unprofessional because booking.com was the only reason i could have found this place. This particular person at the reception was very unwilling and blaming his management for the sturdy way of dealing with this unfortunate situation. Over my 9 nights in several motels this is the only that i have complaints and also was the most expensive one, even dougle the price of to other that offered much better service. Maybe for others it works out better.

The location is great for getting to Mother's Beach The air conditioner didn't work, it wouldnt even turn on We had to ask for towels. And we received 2 hand towels and 2 wash cloths. Good thing we didn't need to shower. 8 of the 10 outlets wouldn't hold a plug. It said a pool and jacuzzi was on property but that was padlocked. And no continental break was served

It was clean, had coffee, it was close to wine and dine and the beach. The parking is safe and secure. There was nothing I did not like.

Need to be updated room and little of paint will make it look really nice and if they’re hot tub was working is never working. I’ve worked over for two years.

Staff was friendly The rooms they had offered were not clean. Actually the beds were not made and full garage cans. They gave us different rooms and the same thing happened. The third try did work.

The young lady at the reception was very polite and helpful. The hotel corridors and the room had a very unpleasant odor; the bed didn't feel clean or hygienic at all, and the cleaning was very inadequate—there was hair everywhere. The décor was straight out of the 80s. I definitely wouldn't want to stay there again.

Nothing to like They Agreed to a refund after inspection and cancellation of rooms. Jolly Rodger Agreed to a refund, they KEPT all the money paid for 3 rooms. Won't reply after numerous attempts. So bad for a business ti do this.

Nothing. That we inspected the rooms, didn't like the condition, cancelled, hotel kept ALL our money, even after agreeing to a refund. They haven't answered any calls. Emails or messages. Booking.com are not any better.

This was a great no-frills stay: very clean, spacious, and simple room; very friendly and helpful front-desk staff (shoutout to John and another employee — they were both great!); and an overall-safe feeling (besides one section of rooms that face the street, you had to use your hotel key to access the internal hallways). Parking on site was also included, which was a huge perk. I’d stay again!

I had asked for late check out and as I was leaving the room at noon I was outside the room on the phone. She kept calling the room phone and I told her im out of the room. I kept going back in to answer. Then I needed my backpack and suitcase stored for the day.. she told me I couldn't and thst dhe couldn't trust me ! Anyway, she finally told me I could put it in storage. I dont think its good to have an ill tempered person at your front position. I feel bad for her. She obviously does not like her job and it shows. I was told by other employees that she is like that and its not ok. I hope this woman finds her peace with herself and her job

Everyone was nice, it was clean around the facility, the room was plain but clean and had everything you needed, it was peasant, going to stay there again. No pool, no continental breakfast, poor coffee set up in the room and none downstairs, I went to Starbucks at 6 am.

The room was big and really clean. And people at the front desk were nice and sweet. And only 30 mins walk to the beach, so the location was perfect too. I definitely wanna stay there again whenever I came back to LA. Thank you so much Nothing.

They must keep records because they assign me the same room every time. It is spacious and has a refrigerator and coffee maker but no microwave. The location is a straight shot down Venice Blvd to Venice Pier to the West, or a short shot East to 7/11 for supplies and a popular and affordable Mexican restaurant. Going East to 7/11, you'll pass several nice restaurants and bars. Going West down to Venice Pier during the day, you might find scooters for rent just about anywhere. I found a Bird scooter and rode it all the way from Venice Pier North through the cultural wilds of Venice Beach up to Santa Monica Pier. I got the feeling I'd done this more than once before but it was great to be out in the sun and the breeze without endless schlepping. Street access to the property is a bit awkward for taxis and buses but I think that's why it's so quiet and inexpensive despite its central location. Coming back from Santa Monica to Venice Pier in the evening is problematic, as the scooters go offline at a certain time of day. You may have to walk all the way to Venice Pier, where you can find scooter parking areas just off the beach and ride one East back to 7/11 for supplies and/or dinner, then back West to the Jolly Roger. The Jolly Roger has been my go-to Venice locale for decades. It is walking distance to the venerated Canals if that's what you want to see on a given day. My only complaint is that the outdoor sauna has been shut down since the 2020 COVID pandemic. It is situated on the second floor, which affords privacy and night skyline views in the middle of the suburban surroundings. I hope someday they will reopen it once COVID fatigue sets in.

I really liked the convenient location. It's a flat mile walk to the pier, canals, and ocean.

The toilet was not secure, it felt like it would fall off the wall every time you sat down. And there was not any hot water to shower, yikes!!!! Reported it to the staff, and they explained they were short of staff. One offered to check the toilet. The broiler was over worked?

The room was very comfortable and spacious. It included a TV with good cable service, a table with two chairs, a mini fridge, an ironing board, an iron, a hair dryer, and a coffee maker. The sink was separated from the bathtub area, which made it very convenient for getting ready while the other person showered. The bed and pillows were very comfortable, and the shower pressure was excellent, with reliable hot water. Soap and shampoo were also provided in the bathroom. We were genuinely surprised by the overall quality of the place. The location is fantastic, right on Washington Boulevard in Venice, only one mile from the canals. Free parking was a great bonus. The hotel was quiet, allowing us to rest very well. Excellent experience overall. We will definitely stay here again on future trips to Los Angeles.

The rooms are not nice at all. Just a bed and hard cold floors. You can hear everything going on in the hotel. The front desk lied and told me that “Expedia overbooked, and it’s not their fault, but they didn’t have my room available at the same rate.” Then they said since you’re from out of town I can find a room for you and charged me a higher rate. This place is a scam. Waaaaayyy over priced for the terrible condition the rooms are in. Also it’s a sketchy place. Like I felt like I needed to block my door with furniture at night. Don’t stay here

An inexpensive room in Marina del Rey that does not come with what you might expect from an inexpensive hotel. This hotel was SPOTLESS. The laminate floor and everything else in my room felt really clean, and I can't say that about ALL hotels. The front desk people both at check-in and at check-out were very friendly and courteous. The room was plain, but had a mini fridge and a TV, and the bed was super comfy. What more do you need? I chose to park in front, which was well-lit, not in the underground garage. As a single woman traveler, I felt very safe. Next day, I was 7 minutes from where I needed to go, which was the marina.

We checked into the hotel at 8:00 PM; however, at approximately 10:30 PM, the fire alarm was activated and abruptly woke us from our sleep, causing significant disturbance. Despite the seriousness of the situation, the staff did not deactivate the alarm for nearly 10 minutes. Due to the ongoing disruption and lack of effective intervention, we were forced to check out at 3:00 AM. Overall, the service quality was unsatisfactory, and this property cannot be recommended.”

Noise from the upstairs neighbor interrupted my sleep. The best they could do was move me one room over which did not solve the problem.

Overall was a good stay. Could have been cleaner in the rooms... Staff was nice and accommodating, ac/heat worked like a charm, large rooms, plenty of parking. For the price I would say it was worth it.

The gentleman that did the check in was kind and straight forward with instructions and info. The room was roomier than anticipated, but very outdated. The bed was decent, but the room was quite cold and the blanket on the bed was useless. I had to sleep with a hoodie on. The old guy that handled my check out at 7:30am was very testy and gave me an attitude about getting a copy of my guest registration form showing I checked out. The price was decent and the underground parking was very helpful, due to the rainy weather at the time. I would stay here again if needed, but I'd make sure to bring a blanket.

No heater, stains and hair in bedsheets and pillows; no restroom in lobby (especially for guests checking in who drive from another state): dusty curtains which sadly was over the beds and triggered an asthma attack on my son

There’s bedbugs in the bed, I got 50+ bites all around body, the location id great, 10 minutes walk to Venice Beach, it’s near a main road and maybe some bars so there’s some noise around midnight.

The location is really bad, very noisy street. Cross the hotel are 2 bars or 1 bar and 1 club. I booked on the weekend, so my family has hard time to sleep because. The street racing happened at mid night and last for 1-2 hours.

Nice hotel

Large clean rooms, front desk service is friendly and efficient, the hotel is in a good area w many restaurant choices and the parking is free and covered. It’s a much larger ‘complex’ than I imagined and our room was at the very far end, overlooking the neighboring restaurant’s dumpsters. And it should be noted the pool is across a side street, small, unheated and not very clean.

Big drawback is the location. Yes via car it's in a good location. However, if you want to go for a walk there's nothing nice around the property...or a coffee shop ..area is dirty and many homeless roaming around...so definitely not safe at night

Perfect for the first night of our holiday. We know the area and although it doesn’t look great in a few places , it is a safe area. 15 minute walk to the start of Venice beach. If you want a cheap hotel in great location then The Jolly Roger is perfect, No frills but you get what you pay for,

We stayed for two nights. Free parking is available and on Wednesday and Thursday night we had no problem finding parking at night. The staff are friendly and helpful. Rooms are clean, there’s coffee machine and a fridge. We got beach towels to take with us to the beach. The hotel is an no smoking hotel, rooms are fresh and clean. Overall we were very happy with our stay and would recommend it!

The front desk person did not allow me to stay with my registered service animal. He proceeded to ask what my medical condition was. Kicked me out of a hotel I paid for at 10pm when he saw us outside. Beware.

No pool no Jacuzzi and no type of breakfast. We stayed here for yrs they used to have a nice breakfast spot with indoor & outdoor seating they stopped a little after 2020.

This was my first time to stay at the Jolly Roger. I’m on a recreational trip and traveling alone. I think this hotel gives you the chance to look at your own philosophy about hotel. Stay when you’re visiting the beach. Do you want a real nice hotel? Or you just want someplace to hang your hat cause you’re gonna be at the beach all day? The Jolly Roger is half the price of other hotels in the area. It’s safe, the rooms are big, they are clean housekeeping staff works hard. There are a couple of vending machines to tide you over. There are several very pleasant small restaurants within a five minute walk. The beach itself is only a 30 minute walk and it’s a pleasant walk. The traffic noise level is not bad.

If the only thing you need out of a hotel is a place to sleep and shower, the Jolly Roger will suffice. Despite its outdated exterior and interior, my room was clean. The bathroom fixtures need to be de calcified because the shower’s water flow was sputtering and the toilet wouldn’t flush because of sticking calcified levers. Parking is decent, but if you get to the hotel late in the evening, spots might be full. You’ll have to park somewhere street-side. Also, the hotel sits on a very busy 2-way multi-lane street. That could be frustrating depending on which direction you’re trying to go. There’s a Thai restaurant right next to the hotel and plenty of other restaurants within walking or driving distance. Overall, the hotel is good.

Wasnt sure what to expect. It looks like a typical motel, but there is so much more. The gentleman that booked us in was amazingly friendly. It has a really clean smell throughout the whole hotel. Not sure what they use to clean it with. Almost too mich perfume for me, but at least you know they care to make it smell nice. So close to the beach, easily walkable. Right across the street from Gin Rummy, where you get amazing weekend BBQ food.

The heater wasn't working at all all the time while we were staying and there was nobody trying to fix this issue. We had to stay freezing conditions with kids. It was terrible experience

I needed a last minute hotel during the recent wildfires. I was glad to score a room it was very basic. Clean but really just the basics.

convenient to Venice Beach, Marina Del Rey, and celebrity chef restaurants. Staff are always super kind. Rooms are not fancy (like Hilton or Marriot) but spacious and super clean. Neighborhood is getting sketchy but Venice has always been funky.

Last case scenario. There was a homeless guy shouting slurs outside my room all night and I could hear the tv blasting in the next room.

This is a great affordable property to stay. The night manager and manager are really friendly and great. Although this is not a luxury hotel but the room is clean and everything work in the room and basic amenities are provided. They even have a printer, hand sink and microwave oven at the front desk. Vending machine for snack and water also available and do not need to go out of property if thirsty or hungry. Highly recommend this property to all who are looking for a clean, affordable and nice place to stay.

Oct 24 - We dont mind walking and we avoid using the car so the 30mins walk to the beach & cafes was fine. Its a 1mile 2min drive to beach parking @ $6 per day. Its a good 1h 30min walk to Santa Monica pier.

We wish we would have booked this hotel for our entire stay! Central location, clean rooms, extra pillows, mini fridge, free parking. It is right on a busy road with nightlife but i don't mind the noise of the cars.

This is an older property. The room's furniture and design are dated, and the amenities are basic. However, the staff is friendly and the price is right. There are many restaurants in the area, and it's an easy 30-40 minute walk to the beach. My biggest complaint was how noisy it was. A couple in the room next to mine woke me up at 5 am talking and laughing loudly for a good hour or so, and my room was adjacent to a patio area where people were sitting and chatting until about 11 pm.

Love the Jolly Roger! A hidden jem.

While it has been a couple of years I’ve stayed here many times over the last decade and always have a nice stay. Especially for the price. So many great options for dinner and drinks and fun Irish Pub around the corner called Brennens with a huge outside area, cornhole, pool tables, arcades and Thursday Turtle Races.

The staff was extremely rude.. once we got there they made us wait for our room even though we had reservation and the room was ready. then we heated up some noodles in the microwave and the manager started saying about the smell and he came over with an aerosol spray and started spraying it all over.. it even got on our face and food. this was very disrespectful, we have been to numerous hotels all around the world and have never had such a bad experience. then the manager and current staff on duty kept asking us questions that were not related to my stay and making us feel very uncomfortable. we tried to quickly get out keys and once in the room we saw how it was very dirty and extremely bad shape. we regret staying here and wouldn't recommend to anyone.

We stayed three nights. Arrived late (1AM) with super easy check-in. The price for the location couldn't be beat with the level of comfort we experienced. Clean grounds and room. Very quiet all three nights and we slept incredibly on a comfy king. The bathtub was especially clean and water pressure/temperature were perfect! We can't wait to stay again, especially due to the hospitality of night shifter Terry! Thank you!
