Location amd room size. We had a ground floor courtyard room. It was very dark during the day and a private function meant we couldn’t use the door to the courtyard one afternoon. I have to say the front office manager was great in resolving our problems

Very thin and cheap toilet paper. We had to go to the grocery store to get our own toilet paper. Towels and toiletries are average quality.

Great staff from the valet to the front desk it was great.Staff was always helpful with all of are needs. Take advantage of the sister restaurants they are partnered up with. Clean, spacious room and bathroom just set-up perfect. Toilet was a first for me but it makes sense loved it. I will definitely be back.👍

Clean, easy to find an great location Options for parking make returning questionable. Either $45 parking fee for valet when garage is right next to hotel or park in garage BUT you have to feed meter by 8am or get a ticket is just not right.

I enjoyed the room. The only thing I didn’t like I couldn’t smoke on the balcony. Also I paid for amenities I didn’t use.

Spacious room. Great location. Nice stuff. Free margarita at check-in. Will stay here again. Bed could be softer for my taste. This hotel can be loud given its proximity to the road and nearby restaurants. Still, probably the best place to stay in MB. We prefer it over the Westin. They need to switch out the carpet on the stairs from the front desk up to the second floor.

This hotel is so outdated, the rooms are so loud, there’s no natural light on the first floor rooms, the food is bad, the lighting in the rooms is bizarre. The only redeeming quality is it’s the perfect location.

It was perfect for what we needed, and the staff was amazing. The welcome margarita was also exactly what I needed after a long day. Will absolutely be back.

Although I was told there was an upgrade, I am not sure if I actually got upgraded but the room was sufficient. Neitherof the two rooms rented had sufficient air conditining. Temp never got below 70

Everything from easy access, greetings by staff, quality of the bar and restaurant, to the room itself. Everything was amazing. The GM Rodolfo was spectacular and personally checked on my experience at the property. This is the only place I will stay in Manhattan Beach in the future.

Great stay except the food we ordered wasnt exactly our favorite. Smashburger was a normal burger that tasted like taco meat? I wont get into it all but we for sure would stay again, just eat elsewere.

Its was okay. AC kept shutting off middle of the night and wouldn't turn back on. It would get hot and hand to get up and mess with it to turn it on. Overall it was a comfortable stay

I did not get my complementary wine. Also the last time I stayed there I had unlimited pomegranate margaritas but was limited to 2. Given the rate I would think free drinks would one a problem. Especially since there always seem to be loud events.

I love Manhattan Beach so just the location itself is a dream. A haven of calm after a busy week in the rest of LA. The property itself feels a bit like it’s in need of a refresh. One of the chairs in the lounge area sank right through so all you could feel was the wooden frame. The bed linen smelled so clinical that it made me feel quite sick for a few hours. The decor is now quite dated. The shower took a very long time to warm up. There was a bathtub and some other packaged furniture right outside my door in the corridor which made the space feel cluttered and tight. I don’t think it was good value for money at all. However, the staff were faultless and very friendly and accommodating. And being in walking distance of the pier, the shops and the restaurants makes me really happy. Location big thumbs up, property needs some work though.

The hotel and room, although on the expensive side, were well worth it, especially for special occasion like Valentines Day. My wife and I had an unforgettable romantic stay!

the way the staff greeted me! It was amazing, what a warm welcome I got. i really appreciated that. I loved the vibe and the colors, the sea blue and grey that was incorporated.

The only negative was a very loud wedding on my last night. All rooms face the event courtyard, and there was music blasting for hours. It was so loud I was unable to have a conversation or hear the TV in my room. It did quiet down by 10:30pm but it was unpleasant and I had an early flight the next day. It would be nice to have warning that there will be a loud event during the stay.

I thought the food was quite good in the restaurant and the room was very comfortable. However, there was construction going on which they did tell me about. Which was loud during the day while I was working. The room was also on the street so there was some street noise. But I thought the area was convenient.

The hotel is a fun beachy vibe- clean and spacious room. Excellent location. Completely walkable area. What made this hotel stand out for me was the staff- everyone was helpful and genuinely kind. Can’t wait to return.

This is one of our favorite hotels. The staff is extremely friendly and helpful. There were fun lights throughout the room you could change, a great vibe. The location is in the perfect spot with so many restaurants and shops around.

Great location near beach with everything within walking distance. Pool area is not very good. It’s really small and certainly not an inviting pool. No staff around for drink orders etc. Wifi was offline a number of times for extended periods during 3 night stay.

Probably great when first built. Decor seemed a little dated and facility maintenance seemed tired. For example, mold on shear curtains, broken shower mixing valve, broken light fixture (Room 203).

I left my blouse in my room after check out and call the next afternoon and they had it. They never called me. Also my debit card was compromised the same day. Hotel was noisy.

I contacted hotels.com yesterday after the first night at the shade hotel. the wallpaper was peeling, there was mold in the bathroom, the bathroom door didn't close, the drapery was falling apart, things were not sanitized. The manager was notified. The guest showed all the unacceptable conditions. Hotels.com never got back to me after saying they would. truly disappointed.

I was really excited to stay here. We were put in an older room though. The floor was cracked, carpet coming apart, tv broken. I wish it had been disclosed upone booking- we would have stayed elsewhere

Fabulous weekend visit at The Shade! Top notch hospitality and friendly staff. Bar and restaurant are amazing with tasty food and yummy cocktails. Our newly renovated room was very modern, tricked out lighting, smart TV (Apple TV and all the usual apps), and very comfortable bedding. Walk to town, pier and all the restaurants and bars at your doorstep.

This is one of our most favorite places! Everything about this hotel was perfect. Gustavo was great for breakfast. He helped us with brunch with our nephew and his daughter!! It worked out great. Of course Matty was the best bartender ever. We felt welcome and we had a lot of laughs and fun with him!! Everyone at the front desk was helpful and friendly!!! And the champagne was a very nice touch upon our arrival 😊❤️

Beautiful boutique hotel in the middle of Manhattan Beach. Careful as the hotel is smaller and hosts weddings which will close down amenities at the hotel which sucked. Also ordered some rose petals and chocolate covered strawberries which never happened.

The reading lights above the bed make you hot so I prefer the lights on the side. Staff is friendly and kind. The food served at the hotel is delicious. Shade Hotel in Manhattan Beach is at a great location; but it’s the hotel staff that make you feel welcome!

The food is delicious and the atmosphere is wonderful! Location is great and we walked every where; so many restaurants to choose from too but the hotel food is exceptionally good. We will definitely make this our 2nd home when we visit our grandchildren.

It’s a pretty hotel and staff is super friendly and helpful. Location is perfect to Walt to the beach and coffee shops and little local stores.

Staff were friendly and very helpful. The noise outside in the hallways the room was loud. cleaning staff started early in the morning and doors slamming were also very loud.

I never really write reviews for hotels! But I have to say! I love this hotel! The staff was just so great! Customer service top notch! The young guys at Valet parking are so helpful and genuinely nice! Location of the hotel is amazing! Will be back!

The only reason to stay at this hotel is the location and it’s proximity to the beach and downtown Manhattan beach . Otherwise the hotel is dated , carpeted areas are old and dirty , the rooms have a musty smell and in general it is overpriced for the quality received .

The shade is a quite great place to stay. They have multiple restaurants on site or walking distance.

The rooms are a lot older than they appear in photos. Our room smelled like remnants of wet dog, parking garage is a very inconvenient walk. Staff was ambivalent, with the exception of the room service staff & kitchen staff who were very pleasant and kind. We had one thin blanket on our bed, no top sheet and it was freezing in our room at night time. However it is warm during the day so it didn’t make sense to turn the heater off and on. The hotel rooms definitely need updating. You have a Keurig in room but only given 2 coffee pods and no cream, not even the powdered kind. There are no USB ports in room. The ironing board was rusty and wouldn’t open.The uneven stones on the shower floor make it feel very uncomfortable to stand on. The best thing about this property is the location. For the price we paid, it’s not worth going back again.

I reserved two rooms for two nights but on checkin was given 4 $20 coupons per room. She. I showed my hotels.com pearls in my email reservation (somewhat embarrassing for a $600/room/night stay. The night manager took care of the wine - and said when I checked out they would settle up the breakfast. Sad the average price per meal (no tip/alcohol) wad $18 as such the coupons wouldn’t cut it. We’ll after two breakfast the morning manager at checkout made me feel like a criminal wasted 15 minutes of my time and gave me an extra $10 off my total bill - despite personally spending over $230 on breakfasts (sans tips). Then she insisted I send her a copy of my Hotel.com confirmation so she could fix the mistake like it was my fault.

Now if it was just a pleasure trip and no dogs, I think it’s a great boutique hotel, with lots of great places to eat. The hotel also gave us lots of $10 off coupons to use for food and drink. They also have free bikes for you. The top of the hotel has a very large jacuzzi and lounge chairs. We enjoyed our short stay and especially the staff.

This was a splurge for me and a mother daughter stay. For a $384 a night "resort" I was expecting something amazing. The room was on the ground floor so the view was the street. We couldn't leave the sliding glass door open or anyone walking on the sidewalk could easily walk into our room. The pool is not a pool. It is a large jacuzzi. I am a swimmer and brought my googles. When I went to the roof to swim, the area was under construction, men working and lots of noise from electric drills. The jacuzzi inside the room was very nice and everything was very clean. But for a whopping $470 for one night (taxes and resort fee) I am very much regretting this. I have stayed in resorts in Hawaii for so much less. I am a teacher and wish I could get half of my money back at least.
