Reviews
The hotel is praised for its prime beachfront location, friendly staff, and clean rooms. However, many guests express disappointment with the outdated facilities, lack of maintenance, and need for repairs in the rooms and common areas.
- Great location right on the beach
- Friendly and helpful staff
- Outdated facilities and furniture
- Lack of maintenance and need for repairs

Exoedia let us book ghis hotel even though was jusr destroyed by Hekene. Money not refunded yet. Taking action asap afainst Exoedia and Schooner as both are unresponsive to my messages

Hotel unavailable—we did not get our reserved room, so we should not be charged anything either!
- 1/5
We were unable to speak with anyone at Schooner Hotel before or after our booking. we were forced to book another hotel for the same dates. police would not allow any visitors on Golf Blvd. due to clean up of Hellen damage. I believe the Schooner hotel was flooded at the time we made our reservations.

Good location Property needs full updating outside and inside
- 5/5
Always love staying here. Just steps from the beach and my fave hangout, The Reef! Early check in, room was clean, comfy and cold ac! Staff is always great! Will be sad when it’s torn down and they build the high rise building.
- 5/5
The Schooner Hotel is a quaint little hotel right on Madeira beach. The staff was so friendly and so accommodating and made our trip you wonderful. It is an older building, but the rooms were clean and bright and it was so easy to feel at home here.
- 4/5
Very happy with the location. Right on the beach. Friendly service. Parking included. Building is a little run down but very much enjoyed our stay!!
- 2/5
Staff was very nice and accommodating. Gave me a refund and called their sister hotel for a room. It was great. No hassle or issues. The place did not match pictures—old and a bit run down. Looked like a place a lot of construction workers stayed at. Saw many drill battery chargers,

Great little efficiency! On the beach!
- 5/5
I love the small hotel feeling.
- 5/5
beautiful rooms, everything was perfect!!
- 3/5
The refrigerator is far from the kitchen, and the toaster lacks a power outlet. The only outlet is occupied by the coffee maker, and the toaster's cable does not reach it.
- 5/5
Extremely easy check-in! Very quiet! Right on beach! Clean! Wonderful!
- 4/5
Nice beach had kitchen and grills
- 5/5
Amaizing, just few feet to the beach nice and friendly staff.
- 4/5

Roof and windows leaked during tropical storm Debby.
- 2/5
I live in the area and go to a different small privately owned hotel/resorts on the beach monthly and so far I have been to 8 and this one is by far on the bottom it’s a shame as they have the potential to be more with very little investment
- 4/5
OK
- 3/5
The price was a little high for the room accommodations. You are paying for being right on the beach. It would be difficult for people that struggle with walking/stairs. We were on the 2nd floor and there were small steps to get into the room as well. The steps could easily be missed entering and exiting the room.
- 3/5
The accomodations were ok. There was a coffee pot in the room, however no coffee or cups. The shower had hair on the walls. The slider to the "balcony" did not open. The room smelled very musty. Location was pretty good. Right on the beach. The property didn't look kept up and the layout was extremely weird.
- 5/5
We love the schooner hotel the rooms are amazing it’s had everything you need!! Thank you we will be back!
- 5/5
A great view service was wonderful very professional and nice easy check-in will be back
- 5/5
The amazing view. Property is old, but the rooms have been updated.
- 4/5
Services was great as they provided the access code to room and had everything in there for us as we arrived late. Room was steps from the beach and access and view were amazing. Room had some repair issues that needed to be addressed. Cabinet door under sink fell down when opening it, one of the chairs at the table had loose legs and wife almost fell from it and the sliding door did not slide well, did not lock, and was held closed with wood bar at the bottom.
- 5/5
I had never been right on the beach and i was this time and it was wonderful
- 4/5
Fun
- 5/5
Awesome time
- 2/5
The condition of the room where terrible dirty sheets, unsafe tile by the entrance the cost to expensive for this conditions
- 5/5
Older property but very clean and comfortable. Beachfront was gorgeous.
- 5/5
Great view and steps to beach
- 1/5
This place is a dump. Do not stay here. The gentleman at the front desk was very nice
- 5/5
We love it very nice walk to the beach
- 3/5
Employees were excellent. Property location was excellent. Condition was rough, mold and rust in bathroom. Would not stay again, even if it was paid for. Neighbors were drunk (maybe) and screaming. Not the business’ fault but you get what you pay for. Cleaning crew almost walked in on us changing, what’s your process here? Roll the dice on what rooms are empty?
- 4/5
Great location
- 2/5
This property has great access to the beach. That’s the only positive about this hotel. It rained during our visit which caused our ceiling to leak. Reported to maintenance who commented “oh yeah, the roof was damaged by the hurricane”. Which has to be well over a year ago. Bath vanity cabinet was warped and damaged by water. Ceramic tile flooring throughout the room was cracked. Microwave shelf was rotted and barely attached to the wall. Microwave missing leveling foot which causes it to rock when opening the door. Couch cushion material was ripped and dirty. Converted the pool into a huge sandbox. Paint peeling throughout the entire properly, moldy shower curtain, sliding door seals broken. Room curtains falling off the rod. I could go on and on about the defects of this property. Spend the extra money and find a different place to stay.
- 5/5
Amazing view and direct access to the most beautiful beach! Decent decor, great amenities (microwave, fridge, toaster, cooktop) newer bathroom, but the room and place could use a little extra maintenance.
- 5/5
Hotel needs to be remodeled it’s in a need for repair we paid to much for our stay I have payed 39.00 a night in better upgrades then this hotel . We payed way too much to stay here.
- 5/5
I honestly loved staying here, it gave off a very comfy, at home feel to it. I think the hotel is family owned which I loved even more! We had access to the beach 24/7 and could see the ocean from our bed. The bed was soooo soft, but I will say the furniture was worn down due to use but I feel like it gave the place more charm!
- 4/5
We should have asked for a broom to keep the sand out the 3 days we were there
- 5/5
The beach was beautiful! Great location
- 2/5
Great location don't expect much more.
- 5/5
Waking up right on the beach. The management was really nice as were the cleaning crew. I'm the only downfall is you can get a hold of people only from 9:00 to 4:00
- 3/5
Sadly, the room needed many updates and repairs. The doors and bathroom vanity had extensive water damage, and the toilet tissue holder had been broken off the wall, with the toilet tissue placed on the window sill. Improved lighting in the room and the outside common areas would be appreciated.
- 4/5
Great location right on the beach! It was the perfect spot for us while visiting for a wedding. Staff was kind, the room clean. My only complaint is that some of the furniture in our room was so worn and dated that it drags down the overall impression of the place. I expect more when you pay 250 a night.
- 4/5
Always a family friendly & chill spot .
- 4/5
Nice hotel with great access to beach. Would be great for a family getaway with young children.
- 5/5
The managers anticipated our needs and met them.
- 5/5
Its super close to the beach, nice deck, gas grills, tables outside and very comfortable tanning chairs. All rooms are remodeled, although building looks dated outside, the rooms are really nice The gentleman in the front- Chuck was absolutely amazing!!!!
- 3/5
👍Staff was very friendly and helpful
- 5/5
It is great for groups & gorgeous views!
- 5/5
So many things within walking distance
- 3/5
There was a nice view of the ocean. I wish the sliding door had a screen or easier to see out of. The room had cute decor and was mostly clean. There was A LOT of cat fur on one of the couches. Not great for someone allergic to cats! The hot tub is no longer a hot tub, it’s a sandbox. That was disappointing. Overall it was nice.
- 4/5
The rooms are clean, but aged. Some upgrades needed. Pool needed cleaned. Another guest cleaned it enough to make it swimmable.
- 2/5
Property and rooms are in rough shape…hot tub has been filled with sand, rooms are beyond dated. But it’s right on the beach so that was a plus!
- 4/5
Ok
- 4/5
Nice location right on beach. Could use some TLC but many small mom and pop places are like this. Thought it was unique, affordable and I would stay there again.
- 5/5
The owner was great! It was our second time staying here and will definitely be back 10/10
- 4/5
Great location on beach. Clean rooms. But out of date building. Very old.
- 5/5
Love the place the rooms are awesome and comfortable I highly recommended it it’s a perfect vacation getaway you will love it
- 1/5
Not much to like other than beds were okay. Property is run down and not being maintained other than running a leaf blower daily. Dirty towels not picked to be laundered. Advertised hot tub hadn’t been used in a couple of years. Now filled in with sand. Pool filthy and not cleaned during our 3 night stay. Sadly cannot recommend. Will not return as there are too many higher quality places to stay in the area.
- 5/5
Very friendly staff, updated, clean. Comfortable. Had a blast!
- 5/5
This was our third year at Schooner. We love the vintage appearance but most of all its location location location!!
- 3/5
If you’re looking for a simple getaway & don’t mind a slightly ran down hotel with no upgrades, this place is a good choice. We’ve been coming here for several years mostly bc property sits right on the beach!
- 5/5
Great location !
- 3/5
Beach is gorgeous and the pool is delicious. It’s a great property if taken care of.
- 5/5
Love it was right on the beach, we had beautiful weather. I loved the small hotel and not a huge resort. Cant wait to stay again!
- 2/5
Not as advertised. Room tiny, especially bathroom, no closet, bed horribly uncomfortable, limited parking, no balcony or view at all, loud street noise.
- 3/5
View from room was fantastic. Direct access to the beach was great! We found it odd that check in was not until 4pm and yet the office closed at 4pm. I would recommend that hours be adjusted in order to greet guests upon check in. A window was left open in our room and resulted in the bed and coverings being damp/wet. We were able to dry it out before use. Property/room was quite dated and needs a refresh and a deep, detailed cleaning. Comfortable enough for our one night stay.
- 2/5
The phone number to the hotel never worked. It kept saying “voicemail is full “. The location was great, but the hotel was very run down. The door lock kept malfunctioning. The tv wasn’t set for use. We had to spend time trying to set the channels. They gave one roll of toilet paper for two people on a three day stay. The bathroom was smaller then a cruise ship bathroom.
- 1/5
Hotel is being torn down in months…
- 4/5
Limited parking available.in the area for guests.
- 3/5
I know spring break affected the nightly cost for this hotel, but it was not worth the money. This hotel is run down and the photos are deceiving. My room had a musty smell, the bathroom sink was clogged, the couch was dirty, the coffee pot burner was rusted, the outside of the refrigerstor was filthy on the right side and they had a warning sign if dishes weren't clean you would be charged.
- 5/5
Love the location and the place is a like a blast from the past. Old time hotel, love it!
- 4/5
The staff was sweet and accommodating. Room was clean, but dated and well-worn. The common areas had much to be desired with missing and loose slats in the balcony that was extremely dangerous for children. Pool area was great but pool needed attention. Location was amazing.
- 5/5
Great room, great staff, and great location
- 5/5
Small and with the old charm the new hotels can not recreate
- 5/5
An older hotel, but nice. Right on the beach.
- 4/5
The hotel was older but kept clean.
- 2/5
Property is not being taken care of.
- 5/5
Bottom line, we would absolutely come back again.
- 4/5
Close to all restaurants and beach. Had a tiny bathroom but was clean with low water pressure. I’d stay here again but max occupancy is 2 people.
- 4/5
Manager was very friendly and helpful.
- 4/5
Our fan didnt work. Liked having a keypad versus a card and the area is fun and hip!
- 4/5
Great location - right on the beach. The room itself could use some updating and modern touches. Check in was very easy and host was very friendly.
- 5/5
Excellent location. Right on the beach with plenty of activities. Dolphins swimming by and lots of sun and fun.
- 5/5
Beautiful beach. Lovely pool. Outside of buildings were showing wear. Inside our room some problems with window coverings broken, one of the ceiling lights had cover off and one wall plate was not on. Overall, great value for the money. Excellent access to the beach.
- 2/5
Property a lot more run down than shown in the photos. Parking difficult in that if you park in one of the few spaces in front you must back out onto a busy street. Other alternative across the street means you are running across a busy street. On the plus side it’s right on a lovely beach.
- 5/5
Something out of a dream
- 2/5
Location is amazing right on the beach. Some of the rooms are not very nice. The tile on my floor was broken and parts of the hotel need to be renovated. Front desk staff was very nice.
- 1/5
I was sadly disappointed in this “hotel”. I was late getting to the property due to my flight and there was no one the office to check me in. Instead I found an envelope with my name on it with the instructions of how to get in. Once in, the decor was early American thrift store. The mattress was old and the one in the room was unsteady and pretty unusable. The bathroom sink did not drain. There was a shared balcony with the rest of the second floor with an outside light that could not be turned off. The front side of the room had a bank of windows with wooden shutters (with one that needs repair) that did a very poor job of cutting down the light from the street. The bed mattress was old with broken down support and the bottom sheet was just a mattress pad. Only one sheet for cover with no duvet or blanket. I was finally able to get to sleep at 3am once the traffic noise died down and I could finally pass out from exhaustion. I left first thing the next morning to find a real place to stay. I asked for a refund for the two nights that I prepaid. No reply or apology from the management after I canceled and explained why. This place is a dump and should be shut down.
- 3/5
The property is an old hotel. A kids pool was filled with sand! I think they are just waiting for the right price to sell and have taken to just do the minimum to maintain. However, it is right on the beach and well below condo prices.
- 2/5
This place is due to be demolished in the Fall and you can tell! It is literally falling down around us. We had 2 rooms there clean “enough”. If for 1 minute I thought I could have found another place quickly I would have ran not walked away. Expedia sold this as some thing it absolutely was not! Shame on you for not doing the due diligence on this property! Unfortunately the clientele at this dive were also bamboozled as we were but they were decent.
- 2/5
They are trying to keep this place open but everything is very dated. If I had see it before booking I would have gone elsewhere.
- 4/5
Great view and walk right out to beach!!!
- 1/5
Room was dirty, hair in bathroom. Tv did not work. Patio door broke.
- 2/5
Each room should be supplied a broom and dust pan. So the entire room needs major updating but It was very nice to be right on the beach. I would not recommend this hotel to anyone because it is so in need of m.
- 2/5
I literally cannot list everything wrong with this property but to name a few problems, poor water pressure, warped and water damaged doors and trim, missing and burned out light bulbs, holes in bathroom door, old , and severely worn towels, no coffee pot, no microwave, one Chanel on tv, no chairs no light covers on lighted fans, fan blades filthy…… proprietor said they are tearing property down in September which would account for the very poor maintenance,or lack of maintenance. ONE good thing…on the beach.
- 4/5
The room was great for a short stay and right on the beach.
- 5/5
Nice quaint clean hotel. Right on the beach. Loved the older gentleman at the desk he was amazing!
