Reviews
The Downtown Los Angeles PodShare is generally well-liked for its convenient location, friendly staff, and cleanliness. However, the small bathrooms and lack of privacy are common complaints. The price is also a point of contention, with some guests feeling it is overpriced for a hostel.

Convenient location, I walked from the LA Union train station late at night with no issues! Bed was really comfy, they provided a small sample-size packet of shampoo and conditioner. There seems to be people who are staying there long-term (which is totally fine with me) but one of them had music playing out loud for almost the entire night! I had to use my own airpods to play a podcast to myself to drown his music out and managed to sleep fine, but it was mildly annoying

Everything about the look is great and the beds not being attached is great . Not having to worry about shaking beds is great. And the stairs to the top bunks are great . One bathroom was broken and it was an inconvenience most times .

Excellent location within walking distance from Union Station and several cool neighborhoods. My bed and pod were comfortable and check-in instructions were clear. Bring earplugs since the city emits constant noise, although not too bad at night. The bathroom situation is not ideal but otherwise a convenient spot. I'd definitely book it again!

I got robbed here. DTLA arts district is a theft operation. Run, run fast if you find yourself here and never look back.

Overall, happy because there werent many people and the area was great. But the place needed improvements and to be more fully cleaned. If it was full then idk what it would be like, too much for sure but it wasnt.

Good location and great price. Easy to get into. Lot of plugs for recharging. I ended up taking an Uber to Union Station, but you could walk 10-15 mins or take a bus later in the day. Very close to Japan town. The bed is big enough for two people, if you aren't staying too long. Each pod is 12 or so beds, so it's a reasonable amount of people. There is a small kitchen area for reheating food and people leave some food to share community style (e.g., cereal, rice, etc.) Simple curtains would be a big improvement. There was a guy listening to videos without headphones - after an hour I asked him if had headphones and he was apologetic. I checked in late and there were no towels visible. Turned out to be a mistake that the attendant should have left a set on my bed, but there wasn't anyone to contact after midnight. The mirror to put on makeup is over the sink, so it can feel rushed. But they had a good hair dryer and other small amenities available.

I liked the price and the shared living environment. I liked the front desk worker. They were very accommodating. Starting with the first day in the shared living room, I saw a mouse run to the back storage area. I also noticed a musty smell on the bed. Even with my sensitive nose, when I removed the pillowcase, I saw the pillow was yellowed. Additionally, I didn't like that on my last night there, the shower grate was missing for some reason. I didn't shower because I was too scared.

The communication from staff was prompt and polite. Not too far to walk to Union Station I left very early morning so it was in a dark quiet road, but there was a security light outside the door entrance. There were only fans circulating the air and not proper air con. One of the residents had thrown up (not in the toilet) in one of the two toilets and kept having a shower which I could hear. Wasn’t allowed to put a towel up as a curtain for privacy but appreciated security cams in there.

The location and the layout. The tv’s , but that wasn’t a major issue for me though.

I didn't use the work spaces. Just got in and went to bed. My friend found a good Japanese restaurant nearby. My bunk was clean and comfortable. Very quiet while we were there.
- 5/5
Great spot. Nice guests. Good location but not safe for walking sadly.
- 5/5
The place was a little hard to find, it was clean and nice the bed was perfect I went to sleep soon as I got there. You might want to bring a fan it’s I little hot in there I just couldn’t breathe at night but other then that I enjoyed my one night only that’s all I could take.
- 2/5
They kept in touch via text. Early check-in. The guy at check-in was nice and let me choose any open bunk. Bed had clean sheets. No bed bug bites. The quiet hours from 10a to 10p was enforced. After hour noise was not a problem, but I always bring ear plugs in case. Place is run down. Dark and dingey. Several low life people staying there. I think the guy below me was homeless and the same for the guy across from me. Very hot inside. No A/C. I sweat a lot. The kitchen was small and the fridge was filthy. The microwave was falling apart, but it did work. I stayed for two nights and thankfully no one stole my food from the fridge. The bed mattress is just a big chunk of foam. I did sleep a few hours, but the constant metro trains going by made it hard. There were only two showers and toilets to use. Both are very small and not the cleanest. One large sink with two faucets in the hallway to brush your teeth and shave in front of everyone. There is absolutely no privacy except for the bathroom and shower. No outlets at my bunk. I used the one in the common area. The couch and chairs in the common area look lived in and I saw people sleeping in them during the day and night as if they came in off the street. The price should have been lower to stay in this run down place. I stayed two nights. It got the job done, was able to shower and relax in my bunk, but honestly, I was very glad to leave.
- 4/5
My friend and I stayed here for two nights, loved it. You pretty much get what you pay for
- 3/5
Dislike: mattress too soft, flatscreen in the pod not in function, very small toilets, two sinks in the hall which are in a poor (not hygienic) condition. Two doors and codes required, which changes from time to time. The dining rooms are not very clean, no air condition, more fresh air required in the rooms.
- 5/5
It's really close to the Union station and Little Tokyo, it's a cozy place to stay the night, during summer it gets a little hot inside but has big windows to cool the place enough
- 5/5
I was able to fall right to sleep.
- 5/5
Friendly
- 1/5
It's a over priced LA hostle. It's dirty and offer little to no amenities. If you've stayed at hostles then you know to bring certain things. But this place obviously doesn't clean or maintain their facilities so don't expect much
- 5/5
I was unsure if i would arrive just before or just after the cutoff for checking in & the staff was extremely accommodating & responsive to my updates/willing to work with me in the event i'd be in late. Check in was quick and easy, as was checking out! Absolutely loved the smaller space i was given and definitely would book with them again
- 4/5
Inexpensive and closer to many things. I hope they clean the bathrooms and showers a little better.
- 1/5
Unfortunately the sheets were not washed. They were discolored and the bed also had stains on them. There's mold in the showers and the shower head is broken. It smells like pee in the showers. No blanket.
- 2/5
No privacy curtain and told not to put one up. Dirty overall feeling. Dirty dishes left in tv room area along with clothes basket. I felt i was in a male dorm room. Being a woman I did not take a shower due to wooden door slutter slots spaced a part far enough a person can see looking into the shower.

I ended up leaving immediately after that. I couldn't sleep in such a place. Waste of money; hopefully I can get a refund.

Great place to sleep and very clean except for the sitting area it needs updated furniture ASAP

We were not offered a refund and the company asked me on why I would choose a shared space if I was “sensitive to being in groups of people who may be sick.” Podshare told Expedia that their staff would not have let anyone check in if they had Covid, but when I “checked in” by sending a photo of my ID over text, I was given a code to let myself in, as the company claimed all their staff were on leave. No one actually spoke to me in person until over six hours later and I am still unsure if they were staff or a long term resident, but Podshare did instruct them to check in, at which time said person revealed at least one person had Covid and that we should “watch out for ourselves.” The listing states it is a single floor, which is partly why I booked it, but there are beds off the ground, and we were assigned one. (I use a rollator) The showers have A LOT of mold growing in them, and are used so frequently that a white, thick substances formed on the floor of them that was not cleaned away during the duration of my four night stay.
- 4/5
First impressions weren’t great as we didn’t receive an email on how to find the entrance despite informing them of our arrival time. When we did check in, lots of sirens went past so we weren’t hopeful. However the beds were comfy and big and the other guests were pretty quiet, quiet time was 10pm-10am but it was quiet the majority of the time. Bathrooms were very small but clean and the showers were lovely. Probably wouldn’t want to stay longer than a night due to lack of privacy and safe storage
- 5/5
I was able to get early reservations and staff was friendly and people were respect
- 2/5
No privacy. Entrances are locked with pins and we had to wait outside for an hour till the front desk guy came in to help us out. The living area couch is dirty. No dedicated dining areas. It is 26min walk to downtown.
- 5/5
The Downtown Los Angeles PodShare exactly fitted my needs. Within walking distance of Union Station, within my budget, quiet, friendly, safe, clean and comfortable.
- 4/5
The people in the hostel were kind and kept to themselves. Majority of them were not in the hostel most of the time, making the area quiet. The place is also a 5 min walks away from little Tokyo and shopping spots. So if you’re a fan of Japanese food then this is the perfect spot. Bathrooms were really small and I questioned if they were clean but for the price i think it’s worth it. Bring your own blanket as well. I made the mistake of not bringing one. The blankets they provided reminded me of cheap curtains. They were thin, so I was freezing in the night. Other than that I recommend this place if you’re going to stay for a day. I’d definitely book a hotel if it were more than one.
- 3/5
Ten minute walk away from bus station which suited my needs as had to catch an early bus to the airport.
- 3/5
The bathroom is too tiny. But the bed is big and comfortable. And the location is good. Cuz u can walking 6 mins to A little Tokyo. It’s just the price is high for Hostel but other things are barely ok. One night sleep is ok. 2 to 7 nights is too much : Not worthy.
- 4/5
My boyfriend and I stayed here two nights while we were visiting LA. Overall, it was a good experience. The pod design is cozy and nice, the bed was very comfy. One of our favorite things was the quiet time from 10 pm to 10 am, which is actually enforced. Thanks to that rule, we were able to sleep well. The only big downside is that the shower stalls are gross and have mold growing in them, and that the outlets in the pods are totally worn out so anything you plug into them just slips right out.

Great place!
- 4/5
Lost my phone charger and had to work with staff to retrieve the code for the stay in the middle of the night. Fabulous response for what may have become a disaster.
- 2/5
Yo, if you want more people to come here, you got to clean up the entire place and replace the beds. I almost broke my ankle
- 1/5
in theory, great idea. someone is definitely profiting a lot off of this. the execution: terrible. if everyone realized other people exist, it might be a great solution. but it is what I imagine sleeping in a jail to be like but no women, only men. I arrived late 12:30am, but I was not the last person, 2 people arrived much later and had their phone lights on to find their beds & were apologizing out loud. I luckily found my assigned bed and slept in my clothes to not disturb anyone around me but that’s impossible. the mattress had no support, lumpy, old, the sheets were not soft or new, the single pillow was very old. I hoped they were clean & bed bug free but it was too dark to see. A window was open & the train went by every 5-7min ruining any possibility of actual sleep. I dozed off twice to be woken up by falling objects from other bunks, snores (how anyone could sleep is amazing to me) footsteps loud & soft, someone taking a pill/water, someone decided to shower around 4am and then had a bowl of cereal with every spoon clink on the bowl being clear as day. at 8:30am I had enough & left but used the toilet that has a flimsy closet door, I’m glad I only had to pee or it would’ve been a symphony for the whole room. the bathroom area smelled bad but didn’t see the roaches all the other reviews list. I’m only giving it one star because it was a lil better than sleeping in my rental car on the street. like… what even is this place? I stay in hostels frequently.
- 1/5
Staff was cooperative but not enough to arrange a parking on property. Toilet was smelly. Worst part is had to cancel my two days of stay but no refund back from property.
- 4/5
Had a problem with bugs in the kitchen area, but overall a nice stay.
- 5/5
The staff is co-operative and helpful. We checked-in after the staff's operating hours but they ensured that we had a smooth check-in by being in touch with us before-hand.
- 2/5
All in all it was ok but a lot of things could be improved. For starters I couldn't book it using my company card so I had to use my own. The showers especially were small and rickety. In general, the hostel was clean but worn from lots of use. The window was kept open all night and I was kept in a semi-awake state by the LA Metro light rail vehicles going onto the First Street bridge with their signature loud buzzer honking at all hours. All in all a neat experience but one which reminded me that it's worth it to get your own hotel room.
- 3/5
Pros: -Bed was comfy and the pod space was very roomy -Very close to Little Tokyo, about a 10minute walk -Not far from downtown LA by car -Kind and helpful staff -Community kitchen (I did not get to use this but I thought it was a good feature) Cons: -The building is pretty run down -You can really hear everything going on, the beds are not in rooms -No privacy at all, not even a curtain to pull. This was unsettling as a woman -Sheets had off putting odor I think I was expecting to really just to need a bed and not much else. But I still felt disappointed. I think it would be nice if they could just hang a curtain to pull. Overall, if you’re really looking for a cheap option close to downtown LA, it’s going to be safer and more comfortable than some super shady hotels for similar prices. I wouldn’t have wanted to stay more than a night though
- 1/5
Even though I knew it would be shared room, There is no rooms, is all together the restrooms are very tight. And the place smells
- 1/5
I cancelled my booking over a month ago, yet received no refund. I was unable to contact a person to do so. I found your website totally opaque. So the bottom line is that I paid for a service that was not delivered, and when I next come through LA, I will seek accommodations elsewhere.
- 3/5
Kitchen a problem. Stove didn't work. No kettle. No spoons. Bed was fine but rather soft.
- 3/5
Make sure to ask or bring a blanket at the beginning of your stay. The beds only have a sheet and a thin cover. The first night I was freezing. Luckily, they did provide blankets when asked, and I was warm enough on my last night. There was also a hole on the floor at the bottom of the steps, which was carelessly covered by a carpet, if stepped on unknowingly, it could have led to an injury. When I told a staff member about it, she spent the afternoon filling it with paper towels and some cardboard with tape. It wasn’t exactly sturdy, but I appreciated her effort, and that they removed the carpet, making it visible for guests to be aware of.

Second time here. I like regards to roommates, you still have lots freedom and privacy.
- 4/5

- 4/5
I like that the bus stop was just a block away and several places to dine nearby!
- 5/5
First time staying in a dorm-like atmosphere and enjoyed it. Bed was much comfortable than in hotels 2-3 times more expensive.
- 2/5
Paid for parking, only to come back and it’s taken. Cool concept, but needs work. DTLA location convenient location, but the bathroom (toilet and showers) have roaches. Came back around midnight and wanted to shower only to find multiple roaches crawling. Employee came and took pictures. That’s about all I know, checked out the next morning.
- 5/5
It was a very nice stay! The only complaint I have is the a/c temp, they kept it a lil too chilly at night. However it’s a very small price to pay for such a nice place
- 1/5
Scary. Not like the ad represented.
- 5/5
Communal type accomodations set in Central Los Angeles. If this is your vibe-I definately consider PodStay. What I view that makes this place above the rest are well organized, great customer service and friendly guest that seems to respect personal space if you seek it.
- 5/5
I wasn't sure if he was going like it, but it ended up being a great experience. If privacy isn't an issue, you should really give it a shot. The staff are friendly and so is everyone else. If you want that authentic experience, this is it! The locals can point you in the direction to great local restaurants, bars and clubs.
- 4/5
They have a large screen TV in the entertainment room, and I was able to catch the Roland Garros final after I made myself breakfast. I was also provided a free toothbrush and deodorant stick, which I did not expect. The only major downside was that the bed sheets they provided were very either thin or small, and I woke up a few times in the night because I was too cold. The neighborhood is also in a pretty busy part of LA, so it’s hardly quiet at night. I definitely recommend having earplugs if you’re sensitive to sound.
- 1/5
this place should not be on expedia is horrible is not clean like shown in expidia advertaisement its like a barracks prision there no doors on rooms no privacy no social distance nobody uses face masks everybody coughing and sneezing not even the managemet on charge lot of healty danger in that place.
- 3/5
I thought it was unique and stylish, not really
- 5/5
Staff was very helpful, beds were comfortable, had plenty of room for my items. The location was in downtown where there's a growing night life on the eastside. I found overnight parking in front of Podshare. Spacious sitting area for eating, chilling, and using laptop. Amazing. Cheers.
- 5/5
Unique community living. Only there for a night but would be neat to stay longer
- 5/5
This is a hostel, so don't expect it to be like a hotel. That said, DTLA Podshare is safe, clean, and well run. The price is exceptional for the area. I was able to explore the Arts District, Little Tokyo, and Downtown LA all on foot in a day. My poor even has a skyline view of the city.
- 4/5
If you literally just want a place to sleep, and get ready this place should be fine. Just be aware, you’re sleeping with other people. There’s bound to be some noise here and there.
- 5/5
Staff were awesome! Let me stow my gear till check in time, adjusted my reservation confirmation (it was for the next day!). Bed was very comfortable and drapes made it easy to sleep. Movie night. Right on the beach!
- 3/5
- If you arrive after 10pm, lights are out and there is no one to help you - there is no "check in". You'll receive an email with instructions on how to enter the premises and where to sleep. Because most of the other roommates were asleep already, I was hesitant to unzip my luggage in fear of causing too much noise, so I slept in the clothes that I traveled in. - There is a large window at the far end of the building. It's not covered. It lets a lot of light in, and is near a stoplight, which changes frequently. Recommend an eye mask if you prefer to sleep somewhere dark. - It is SO cold, and there are only thin sheets provided. Bring your own blanket or some warm jammies if you don't want to freeze during your stay. - the bathroom area is very small, and even at 0600 as the first one awake, the shower was lukewarm (a generous description - I had goosebumps by the end). - the pod itself was very comfortable, and despite all of the light, the noise was minimal. - the location is easy to find and is in a great area. There's a lot to do in DTLA, and it's a short drive from a lot of other attractions. Had I known those things in advance, I would have planned better ahead and likely would have really enjoyed my stay.
- 4/5
The location is very good and convenient!, you can walk to the downtown and there are good spot for food and fun rounding the property. Fair price for what you obtain.
- 3/5
The host D was super friendly! This is a very convenient and economical lodging option in downtown LA. Although I didn't sleep well because the outside traffic noise, the temperature seems to vary over the night, and I felt itchy sleeping there (probably have bed bugs)!
- 5/5
Next time I’m in LA, I will absolutely come back to them! It was perfect!
- 4/5
I enjoyed the peacefulness of the place. The people who worked there were very nice and helpful. The beds were so comfortable with that memory foam. And the community kitchen was very useful. There were some bumps though. The bathrooms are so small and cramped I got claustrophobic. There wasn't a solid door between the toilets and the rest of the bathroom, but rather a folding paneled door. One of the showers stopped working and the other got a clog. The staff fixed the clog after a while. Overall I enjoyed it, but for the same price I could have gotten a room to myself and a free parking space.
- 4/5
It's a neat space and not too far from Little Tokyo. Being an open hostel environment, sleeping can be tricky depending on who's there (some one kept their TV screen on all night keeping the room lit up) and the showers wouldn't always have hot or warm water. But otherwise, nice space.
- 2/5
It wasn't what I what I expected. I usually stay at the Westwood podshare, which I have no problem with, and this was the opposite. I would hope for a refund if possible.
- 3/5
We booked for one night. We walked from Union Station at night and felt a bit unsafe. Check in was easy and the guy was very welcoming and friendly. Our double bed was extremely comfortable. We were near a large window which had no curtain/blind and orange street lights shone right onto our face all night. I thought the tv in each pod was strange and, being so close to my pillow, I was worried I'd bang my head on it during the night. We didn't really like the kitchen area and the toilet and shower rooms are tiny. It was alright for one night.
- 4/5
Beds were super awesome. I liked the place. Only complaint was it took a while to find this place. I came in past midnight and there's no big sign or anything to find this place. you have to read the email to figure it out. Even during the day I saw a lost person and had to direct her to the main entrance. Otherwise cool clean place.
- 4/5
Friendly place that provided easy and inexpensive accommodation for our overnight stay. Can be quite noisy with the monorail and cars outside, and also children running around in the unit above the PodShare.
- 5/5
Came in a little after 10:30PM but the place was clean, and very quiet, love the comfort on the beds, didn’t get to see it well since I left early in the morning
- 5/5
It was a cozy environment with kind and courteous people. Beds were comfortable and the location was located in a very convenient area near lots of shops and restaurants. Would recommend to anyone looking for an affordable alternative to hotels and motels.
- 5/5
An amazing place to stay, easily the best hotel/hostel I have stayed at in Los Angeles! The cleanliness of this podshare hotel was superb, there was literally not a single speck of dust or dirt on the floor anywhere. There are flatscreen Samsung tvs in every pod. The blankets are very clean, not grungy at all. The manager of this hostel is very friendly, warm, and intelligent; she took the time to personally greet every visitor, show them around, and make them feel right at home. She is always helping a guest out at any given time. The kitchen, which had a fully working stove and refrigerator, was just as immaculate. The hotel looks a bit sketchy on the outside, but is the complete opposite once inside. I would highly recommend this hotel/hostel to anyone looking to stay in downtown Los Angeles (it is about 10 min. walking distance from Little Tokyo).
- 4/5
It seemed a bit run down outside at first, but I wasn't too worried about that. Only a few people were staying the Wednesday night I was there. I felt that I had enough space to move around and be comfortable to do my own thing at any time of day. The common room was really comfy and everyone else was nice. My only complaint was a bunch of loud moans and sex noises coming from next door - I'm all for sex and good times, but when you're trying to sleep it's a bit annoying. Good for them though! Thanks for an awesome stay.
