The provide shampoo compared to other hostels that you have to buy it yourself,the breakfast was good and there were a lot of buses close the hostel They could have curtains covering the beds giving some privacy

For the price, Melrose Hostel is a wonderful spot if you need an affordable place to stay that‘s relatively central to LA / Hollywood. The staff was very pleasant and accommodating of anything I might have needed. The hostel was also very clean and the staff cleans the place everyday so I never had to worry about that. IMO the best part of the hostel is the roof, amazing views of the city and the Hollywood sign. There‘s enough restaurants, lunch spots, coffee, etc around the hostel to find food options. I never thought that my stuff or person was unsafe given the neighborhood but I do recommend bringing locks as just as precaution if you‘re unfamiliar with hostel life. Thank you Melrose for a great time!

I traveled early so I needed a place to crash for 1 night. As a solo black lesbian, i really try to find places that seem comfortable to me. I would definitely book here again. The staff is so helpful and courteous. I never felt out of place. I did a mixed room with 5 others and everyone was quiet, polite and neat overall.

The breakfast was great with a good range of food options and the location of the hostel was perfect being in between Hollywood and down town! The staff were also exceptionally helpful.

The area where the hostel is located is ok. I was able to use the city's public transportation with ease. There are bus stops very near the hostel's building. The women bathroom could have been a lot cleaner. I had to use bleach and Comet cleanser to clean the tub and tile before taking a shower. It was grimey and hadn't been properly scrubbed in weeks. The breakfast served consisted of a variety of breads, peanut butter, jelly, cereal, milk and fruit. I saw human hair inside a jelly jar top, and the bread smelled as if it was beginning to mole. I voiced my health issue concerns to the owner of the hostel and she told me that she spoke to her staff about the problem. Other than the above-mentioned, I met some really nice International travelers during my stay at the hostel.

Wonderful rooftop lounge area with a great view of the Hollywood sign! Great location next to many bus stops so its easy to get around/back to! Friendly staff and it was great to be able to meet other guests from all over the world!

Quietest hostel I’ve ever stayed at. It’s on a busy street that can be a little noisy but the hostel itself is really peaceful. Great free breakfast and coffee that I didn’t notice mentioned on their listing. Might not be the right place for you if you’re looking to meet a lot of people or party but otherwise fantastic.

I had a great time, met really nice people with whom I celebrated the New Year, the common areas are great and the room was comfy.

The room is really big and clean daily. All the staffs are so friendly and helpful and chill. Male shower is small but hot water comes out immediately and stay hot which is nice. And a lot of bathrooms so there’s always a empty one you can use! It’s a nice area a lot of food places close by and grocery store. But need to take bus to metro. Free coffee in the morning!!! This property was just okay, the positive was that is was cheap. The staff were quiet odd, they made out like any question or request was an inconvenience. They request that you let them know if you will be checking in after 6pm as they are only staffed (which I later found wasn't the case, the place was staffed at all times) until that time and alternative arrangements would be made for check-in (they charge your credit card and give you the pin codes to enter the property, if you arrive before 6pm they charge you when you arrive and see the staff member) a person I shared one of the rooms with had told me that they checked in before 6pm, however, were informed there card had already been charged which seemed a little dodgy. There are no elevators in this property which may not seem like a big deal until you have to carry all your luggage up and down the staircase they have which can be dangerous. The pin code locks to the rooms were very temperamental when trying to open them which was very time consuming sometimes and it also makes a lot of noise probably waking up others in your room. For me, as I am a vegetarian, I couldn't find many restaurants nearby, appropriate for me. Also, not many shops were available

Even though I only stayed here for two nights I had a really pleasant stay. The property was clean, there's a lot of space in the form rooms and even though you live with other people you still have some form of privacy and quietness because everyone mind's their own business and goes on about their day. Still, the guests and host were super lovely! I will definitely come back here on my next trip! :)

I think they should mention to guest they don’t supply towels for showering and parking is free after a certain time otherwise you have to move your vehicle, so you won’t be ticketed .

Amazing roof top, perfect for relaxing in the evening. Kitchen is big, maybe more equipment for cooking and some extra forks will be awesome. Staff is friendly and location is super.

I really didn't feel comfort early morning after the first night as I felt something/someone affected me and someone in the room was playing music with what I think was their earphones. I mean it seems to me it was still within the period of rest and I can hear the music. And for the last night I had difficulty going to sleep. One of the people in the room close to me and awake were oddly continuously cracking what sounded like their knuckles. I can easily feel the affects of others to add. The room felt stuffy/hotty with no air conditioner on too, so I opened the window a little. Some time later though no hours later but likely within the same hour a person under me shuts it and possibly because of the sound outside of driving. That was ackward. No words were exchanged between us. Note, the last time I used a hostel was probably in 2011. I value and prefer privacy and this hostel stay was an attempt to save money and for comfort to say the least.

I was planning on staying here 3 nights but left after the first night. The room was so hot I kept waking up from sweat, and I couldn't turn off the heater! The service is ok, if you can find someone that actually works there. It's cheap for a reason, do yourself a favor and stay elsewhere.

I've stayed here a couple of times. The location is great and central to a lot of other places in LA. The service is pretty good. The hostel is always pretty clean. A good place for a short term stay. Free breakfast in the morning.

Took the flyaway bus from LAX to Hollywood and walked for 40 minutes. Could also catch the subway from LAX Aviation to Vermont/Santa Monica and walk for 30 minutes if you're feeling up to it. There's probably some easier public transportation options. Or you could just grab an Uber. Enjoyed my stay here though. Would definitely stay again. Thanks for having me.

Stayed at the Melrose for @ nights, and overall my experience was a good one. The place was clean, the bed was fairly comfortable and it was nice and quiet the whole time. My only point of contention is that the posted time for check-in is 3-11, however I got a message from the property stating no one would be there after 10pm (while I was still mid-flight) which was definitely frustrating flying in from NY. They were gracious enough to forward the access codes, etc so I wasn't wandering the streets of L.A. late at night lol. My purpose for traveling meant I had to leave the property earlier than 7 am when there is a staff member at the desk, so I wasn't able to speak to anyone until my return around 4 pm and complete the check-in process then. The 2 members of staff I did interact with were friendly and helpful. My takeaways would be for the property to update their check-in hours online to reflect the correct hours, and to maybe consider having someone available (and also breakfast bc I missed out on that) earlier than 7 for guests that have an early start. I would absolutely consider staying at the Melrose again next time I'm traveling solo in L.A.

I really liked the security, having a choice between coed/all female rooms and the daily Continental Breakfast. The staff seemed to really love their jobs. The atmosphere was collegial regardless of age and the location made it easy to catch Metro transportation to downtown LA, The Broad and the LA Zoo; walking distance to Hollywood Forever Cemetery And Paramount Studios.

I really liked the security, having a choice between coed/all female rooms and the daily Continental Breakfast. The staff seemed to really love their jobs. This was my first time staying at a Hostel! It was a great experience! I met with total strangers from different states and even more were from different countries! It was amazing how human beings from different cultures and different walks of life can come together sharing each others world experiences, being sociable, and simply enjoy each other’s company!

The only negative side is that the locker was very small, but they accept to keep bigger luggage in the office if asked , the free breakfast was really good for the price (coffee, cereal, fruits……etc ) I can definitely come back later and recommend this place

Overall experience was good. Exceptional customer service and willingness to accomodate. There was a reservation hiccup but the friendly and professional clerk handled it quite well. The only a disappointment was that there is no real security measures to protect against theft. The front door is pin code accessible giving would be thieves ample opportunities. The door to the mens dorm was left.open several times. The gentleman who stole $40 out of my wallet entered and exited four times leaving the men dorm door open each time presumably casing and counting the steps and time it would take to enter and exit. He literally walked inside went to the far corner of the room for a few secs and then left abruptly. Having 7 years safety patrol experience its disheartening that the hostel claims plausible deniability by posting disclaimers that they are not responsible for stolen valuables but actually dont provide any security whatsoever. No security gard and door pin system can be shared with non guests. Locks on lockers is only security for valuables. People leave their thousand dollar laptops laying around their face buried in phones or asleep not paying attention at all when there is no ample security and 50 ft to the front door gives would be thieves an open invitation. A camera system does not deter theft at all. Even still I fell asleep holding my wallet. When awoke 20 mins later it was in an empty locker above my locked locker. Shady brady left the premises. Never again.

No security gard and door pin system can be shared with non guests. Locks on lockers is only security for valuables. People leave their thousand dollar laptops laying around their face buried in phones or asleep not paying attention at all when there is no ample security and 50 ft to the front door gives would be thieves an open invitation. A camera system does not deter theft at all. Even still I fell asleep holding my wallet. When awoke 20 mins later it was in an empty locker above my locked locker. Shady brady left the premises. Never again.

The best hostel I have stayed at. The. Best. Comfortable bed. Clean place. Amazingly healthy and plentiful breakfast. The staff was ultra helpful during my particular late night check in and early check out.

I am a girl from Taiwan who travel alone in LA. The hostel is great, and I also met some great people there. The roof of the hostel is so great that has beautiful scenery. The most important is the employees are so so so nice. Overall, Melrose is a great place for me!

I appreciated the hostess saving a lower bunk 4 me when i called ahead of time I liked the fact that there was same sex dorms. The location is great as one can walk close by to restaurants

Honestly my stay here wasn’t that bad the rooftop was pretty cool seeing the Hollywood sign in the distance my only complaint is they might have bed bugs my leg has like 5 red bumps on it

Nicely staged photos, but I didn't feel like this facility has maintained the culture and look or feel it espouses. There are a bunch of shared dorms crammed together - it seemed to be more commercial and less cultural and so I found it to be disappointing. It's a cheap hostel - it smells kinda weird and there's a lot of street noise. Know what you're getting.

I loved it , the place was better than expected and guests were equally friendly. The area wasn't the greatest but that comes with a cheap price. I did all my traveling by foot and never had a problem with the locals. Streets were trashed and littered and plenty of homeless abound but they didn't bother me nor did they ask me for money that much

The hostel itself was great! The staff were nice and I felt very comfortable there. The breakfast provided was pretty great! And theres a tv with Netflix access which is awesome. The only problem I had was that there were no floor matts for after a shower, I was worried about the next person coming in after me slipping over. The location itself is okay- I was warned by my local friend not to wander the area at night alone.

Convenient and easy access and I like how they fix a problem I had on a Prior stay door locked at 5am I lost my codes to the door and there’s a sign there for that problem thanks great hostel and great crowd and great employees

I can't complain due to this facility's price point and amenities, but I wonder if the category shouldn't be spelled "Hostiles." Certain staff members continue to be quietly hostile, non-friendly and, well, it is as if they are part of an underground movement based on some irrational belief, quietly plotting along with some of their own residents to do...well, to do what I do not know.

Great breakfast. Cool staff. Smaller hostel. Not crowded in February. Metro is a bit of a walk. (30mins north or south). Taco Bell and McDonald's a short walk away.

I thought the people working at Melrose Place, as well as a majority of those residing there during my two day stay, were a bit arrogant when compared to both the objective of the facility and what appeared to be their innate competency levels.

The manger was suspicious of my address on my license because it was a local address. I assured her that I was not living locally and I was traveling. I offered to provide proof if my last address in Palm Springs, and that I currently was traveling around She reluctantly said she would let me stay the days I had booked, but no more I felt very, very unwelcome. When I told her this, she told me I could leave. Not the apology I was expecting, which made me feel even more unwelcome After looking around, I noticed there is NO KITCHEN All the hostels I have stayed in have a kitchen, friendly staff, and nice accommodations. This place amd current staff is the opposite of what hosteling is about. I was homeless at the time of the booking Traveling around southern California, which I explained to the manager. This was the worst most unwelcome, dark and dingy place. The staff thinks they are in control of their guests instead of in service of them I highly suggest NOT staying here. The staff was very friendly, and it was such an amazing experience to meet so many other people staying there. The rooms and bathroom aren’t luxurious and are very basic, but that’s to be expected from a hostel. You can see the Hollywood sign from the patio. The location is great, if you walk around the area you will find a few gems

I like that the attendants were pleasant and I like the food served at breakfast. There was variety. I also like the living room seating area because it's comfortable and I like the television.

It's so clean and the staff is so friendly! There's an awesome area to hang out up on the roof, and the beds are warm and neat. Everything here was fab.
