Reviews
The hotel is praised for its beautiful location and friendly staff, but criticized for its outdated rooms and lack of cleanliness. Many guests enjoyed their stay despite these issues, but some felt the hotel was overpriced for the quality of the rooms and amenities.
- Beautiful location
- Friendly staff
- Outdated rooms
- Lack of cleanliness

Staff are very respectful and always willing to assist. FYI the fish pond is gone.
- 3/5
Really beautiful area and the retreat is perfect for a weekend on the mountain hiking. The property has a lot of potential but needs a lot of tlc to be what it could be. The staff is friendly and food was good. The rooms were surface clean at best.
- 4/5
Staff were extremely helpful. The evening weather was so nice we wanted to sleep with our window open but the screen was not attached to the frame on 2 of 4 sides and there were many insects. I asked for a new screen and they had installed it while we were on our hike! So nice not to have to listen to another hotel fan cycle on and off all night long. I value quiet so that was great! Unfortunately the food options were VERY limited and expensive. There wasn’t event complimentary coffee. The views were interesting and beautiful in their own way but the windows were dirty which detracted from the view from our hotel room. We ate dinner in the bar the first night and the music from the machine was so loud I had to put my ear plugs in. As nice as the staff and area was, I don’t think I would stay here again.
- 2/5
The other amenities are cute and fitting for the environment. Restaurant food was good but the place is on the pricier side. The bar looked cool but we had our pup so we didn’t go in there. Otherwise, not a lot to do at the building itself. Definitely nothing to do for kids. Staff was extremely friendly. That was the best part of going up there. My advise, hike, eat here or grab a drink at the bar and stay somewhere else.
- 4/5
They are making progress , but definitely not there yet. They installed their new flooring throughout and the main lobby looks very nice once more. The rooms still need a lot more TLC. It’s mostly a lot of painting and minor things that are mostly just labor. i think my ceiling had 5 different shades and sheens of white on it for instance. If I owned the place, I would just have one guy fix one room per day. It wouldn’t be a ton of money, mostly just that person’s labor. They should try to do something with the old pond too. Maybe 3-4 mini golf holes or well anything. They just filled it in with dirt and left it. Maybe at this rate in 5 or 10 more years it will be looking very nice. Heading very slowly in the right direction. They have a captive audience of nearly 3 million people down the hill so there’s a lot of potential demand anyway.

Just stay one night. That’s all you need.
- 4/5
Beautiful view of the mountains. Lodge was quite grand but our room was not as nice as I expected. Enjoyed the restaurant and bar.
- 5/5
We stayed 1 night and enjoyed our stay. The room was a little dated but clean and comfy. We stayed on the 3rd floor so you do have to use the stairs. The views from the property are beautiful and the sunrise from the patio was stunning. We would stay here again. Added bonus is restaurant on site and small snack station with items for purchase. Staff were very friendly and helpful.

Very friendly staff. Great restaurant and bar area. Very relaxed environment.

Meh. The location is great but this place has become run down and dated. It could use a serious remodel and some updated amenities. The staff was courteous.
- 5/5
I had a very peaceful stay, enjoyed the scenery, staff and other travelers escaping the heat.
- 5/5
It was a very nice quiet place to get away for the weekend. The staff were friendly the food was great. I would say the only negative was the rooms do need a little bit of an update. But honestly for the price I can’t complain too much. If you expect new and modern this isn’t it. But I would definitely stay here again
- 4/5
The new visitor center is very close, offering short hikes with lovely views.
- 5/5
Super staff. Wow. Made it a lovely trip
- 5/5
Pillows were flat and all the same with scratchy linens. Bed ok.
- 5/5
The room was clean, the staff was courteous and went above and beyond when I mentioned it was our Anniversary. Toni in the bar made fresh drinks that were excellent. Dining staff was great as well and even offered tips on sunrise and sunset times we should watch for the best photo opportunities, including hiking tips. Highly recommended and we will visit again!
- 4/5
It was a very delightful experience. The staff was helpful and the food was great. I had the king suite and it was very clean but a bit run down. There was a lampshade ripped and chairs outside were cracked plastic. Not a big deal but just a bit of fixing would make the room amazing. I enjoyed my stay very much.
- 4/5
The staff was amazing, the food was good and the views were great.
- 3.5/5
They had no elevators. I had to carry my luggage three flights up.
- 5/5
Rooms are older but amazing! Bed comfortable, views are amazing and the restaurant was phenomenal. If you’re looking for the new high end hotel this is not it. But if you’re looking for charm, comfort and history the this is your place! I’ll be back next time I’m near Vegas
- 1/5
During my visit, the bartender and the manager treated us with clear disrespect and discrimination because we are Latino. We were ignored and refused service, even though I was simply trying to purchase a drink. Their behavior made us feel unwelcome and singled out. What made the situation worse was that they were openly laughing and making fun of us with other people at the bar. This was extremelyunprofessional and humiliating.I want to emphasize that other staff in the hotel, including housekeeping and reception, were kind and respectful. However, the behavior of the bar staff was completely unacceptable and does not reflect basic standards of customer service.Because of this experience, I do not recommend this place to anyone. I will also be informing others about the discriminatory treatment we received so they can avoid experiencing the same situation.
- 5/5
Staff is friendly and rooms are clean. They are a bit older but kept well. My room had an electric fireplace so that was nice. Bathroom well stocked!
- 5/5
I agree with what many other travelers have said on other reviews. The hotel itself is quite dated. But, everything was clean and the staff was great. The location is fantastic, and it's a lot less expensive, cooler, and far quieter than staying down in Las Vegas. For me, I would describe this hotel's appearance as "vintage" or "antique-like." Frankly, I very much enjoyed the fact that it didn't look like every other hotel in the country. But, if the latest-and-greatest appearances are important to you and you spend too much time on social media, you will probably want to stay somewhere else. I, however, loved the vibe.
- 5/5
Beautiful view all around the property mountains and surrounding area clean and that smell of fresh and clean air on the Mourning's
- 5/5
The room is cute, the view is beautiful, the breakfast is tasty!
- 5/5
Friendly helpful staff. Room could do with some maintenance (window opening, chest of draws slanting, noisy bathroom fan).
- 3/5
This place is ran down and needs a facelift and some upkeep. My suite had a fully equipped kitchen, however, no dish soap, no paper towels, no napkins. Wi-fi was terrible as well as Satellite tv reception. The evening bartender was awesome to visit with. I'm terrible with names but he was 5 star.
- 5/5
Nice, quiet and peaceful. Lot better than staying on the strip.
- 4/5
Absolutely beautiful surroundings and wonderful friendly staff. The property itself is a bit dated and shows its age but it remained a very comfortable and enjoyable place to stay.
- 2.5/5
Close to trails. It'd be a fair hotel if it was priced at $50 a night. As it stands however, it's overpriced for what it is - dated, sad lodge with depressed staff who look like they’d rather be anywhere else. Not worth the money.
- 4/5
First great quiet peaceful spot great sunrise. Great stuff. Rooms little dated but cozy one issue no elevator and was given third floor room . Nice bar
- 4/5
Everyone was incredibly helpful, giving me trail recommendations, extra ice water for the road and great music in the bar. Had a wonderful trip! View from balcony was worth the upgrade!!
- 5/5
Incredible scenery. Mountain views and fresh air. Room spotless. Property very clean and staff is welcoming, helpful and positive. The prefect retreat in nature!

I needed to be in Vegas but that doesn't mean I have to stay in Vegas.
- 2/5
I wish I had nicer things to say but I don't. The room was super dated and dirty and had a funky smell. The bed was super hard and uncomfortable. The ac unit in our room was extremely loud. the coffee maker in our room was absolutely filthy, I just opened the top and immediately said no. The shower was gross and the shower head barely worked, it was more like standing under a low pressure hose. Also not very pet friendly at all. On the website, it says they have alternative seating areas for the restaurant for pet owners out on the patio, which they did not. The patio for the restaurant was closed. They also don't offer any sort of room service and there no other restaurant options for miles, so the only option you have is to leave your pet in your room while you grab something to eat. We also experienced issues with the internet and tv throughout our entire stay. I couldn't get through a movie without the internet and tv going out. I will not be returning. Total waste of money, it was terrible.
- 5/5
Food and beer in restaurant was good. I would stay here again.

They give me a rom next to a door all night slamming from drunk people. Next day I ask for another room cuz I couldn’t sleep the other room did not work the heater. Lots of wind como from the balcony Door and wen we get there my key did not work we have to wait till 3:00am cuz the person at front desk was sleeping at Her working hours really bad experience no sleep for 2 days for us they said they was going to reimburse our money and they denied when I did the request by Expedia talk to them and they said different things that they have to review the cameras really bad experience don’t recommend to stay there.
- 3/5
Easy parking. Staff where helpful. Restaurant food was good. This place needs a remodel. 4pm check-in is a bit much. If you like hiking and quiet this is the place for you.
- 5/5
I had a wonderful time.
- 5/5
Staff was great, location was amazing!
- 5/5
What a gem. Perfect location for the visitor centre and easy walking trails. Bar food was delicious as were the cocktails created by the bartender on the spur of the moment! Reception staff friendly and helpful. Room and amenities clean and just what was needed/wanted. I wish dark sky viewing was possible from the balcony but there are just too many exterior lights, however the location for the sunrise was perfect.
- 4/5
Nice staff
- 5/5
We stayed in a room on the upper floor with an outdoor balcony as we requested. We liked our room and enjoyed our stay for 2 nights. We enjoyed the view of the mountains from the room's balcony, The lodge includes a restaurant and a separate bar. The cook for the restaurant was exceptional for the crab cake special dinner, and for the breakfast omelette, especially the gourmet mini round potatoes. The waitresses were very friendly and helpful.
- 5/5
Fun place to stay
- 5/5
Great relaxing weekend away with friendly staff and beautiful outdoors loved that it was pet friendly
- 4/5
One huge problem is their internet WiFi. With cell phone signal already bad in that area, they need to provide good WiFi. Maybe it was just our issue, but our phones kept loosing WiFi signal, and even their TV would also loose internet connection at times. The lunch we had at the restaurant was great. Besides the poor WiFi, really everything else was excellent!
- 4/5
We just came to 7000 feet to get out of the heat; no skii option.
- 5/5
All the staff was very friendly and helpful. The property is older but well maintained. No elevators. The restaurant served good food and portions were plentiful. Location is remote and beautiful. I enjoyed looking at the night sky and sunrise from the balcony.
- 5/5
Lovely location and staff ! The rooms definitely need renovating and it was dissapointing that not one gas fireplace was working. The resteraunt had good service and tasty dushes.
- 2/5
I know that they have been trying to clean up the resort. But the first lady we came into contact with was so rude and very off putting. Went to the room it looks the same has nothing really has changed other than pricing and the amount of chair on the balcony. Went down to have dinner they have taken all the good food that they ones had away. They have move to be kind of like a burger restaurant. The Dinner did taste good and when I ask for them not to fry the fish on my sandwich, they could make that change. Very happy about that. But the staff member was scared to ask to change the TV. When to the bar he was just great, he had great music playing. 10/10 for the bar tender. I would just go back for him. Other than that, we will not be staying here anymore. You have upset this local.

Not a single fireplace was turned on. Sofas were torn, floors were broken and coming up. The room was certainly clean but again just really dated. Bathroom faucet was old and difficult to operate and just a dribble of hot water. With some TLC this could be a really beautiful spot. We’ve given it two chances now, one summer and one winter visit. Would have been nice if the balcony was accessible, we had to dig the snow off to use it and it hadn’t been snowing in a few days. Not sure we’ll return again unless there were some upkeep to the premises.

The staff The fireplace in the main lobby is broken, the ice machine on our floor (3rd) was broken. I was told we could use the fire pit outside, but when asked it was not allowed. Our room was small. The coffee maker was broken, the shower curtain was dirty, the wifi cut in and out as well as the TV.

The room is older. Outdated but comfy. The tv didnt work when we got in but the two ladies at the front desk would not give up until it was working. Beautiful drive to and from the lodge.

Everyone was so nice and respectful. The food was good and the little store was unique. Everything was amazing best time ever and well spend ?

The bartender was the most pleasant thing about the resort that we experienced, she was delightful. Unfortunate corporate policies close the bar at 8pm. the lobby bathroom had a very heavy urine smell and the bar closed at 8pm. The food was good but I think a little over priced, especially on the steak, compared to the small portion they gave us. My girlfriend went down in the morning for coffee and was greeted with a frown/snarl from the clerk behind the counter, just because she kindly asked if she could pay for her 7up before the clerk was about to make 7 coffees for another party.

Not related to the property, but be advised to bring your snow toys and extra drinks or snacks, they do have a small 24/7 coffee shop, but that's gonna be your only option to buy stuff up there, and after playing in the snow for a bit, one can get quite hungry and be far from the hotel!

The Retreat on Charleston Peak did not meet expectations. The photos online are much more appealing than the actual property. We booked a two queen room with a balcony, and the room was extremely small with very low ceilings. While the hotel has an older style, cleanliness was lacking with visible dust and grime in both the room and bathroom. The on-site restaurant was the best part of the stay. The service was friendly and the food was fairly priced and good quality. However, last seating is at 8:00pm, which is inconvenient since there are no other dining options nearby. One of the main reasons we chose this hotel was because it advertised a gaming bar. Unfortunately, the bar service was very inconsistent. We were initially told the bar would be open until 10:00pm–11:00pm depending on business. When I checked around 8:00pm, the bartender said she was closing at 9:00pm. I returned at 8:30pm for a glass of wine and felt rushed and unwelcome. When my spouse arrived around 8:55pm, the bartender’s demeanor changed and she offered him a drink, later stating she could stay open until 9:30pm. The inconsistency was frustrating. The 24-hour cafe was overpriced, $6.50 for a single can of soda with no nearby alternatives. We also requested a late checkout as locals who paid full price but were told it would cost 30 per hr after 11:00am and were denied even though the hotel appeared nearly empty. Overall, the stay felt overpriced for the level of service provided. For locals not worth it

They also told us we could use the fire place because the inspection wasnt done then later they said we could they gave me wood that was so wet it wouldnt burn with 2 fire starters. We had a padio and the people above had one too it just wood. So there is crack between. The people had dogs above us and they let there dog pee and poop on the patio. It went through the cracks and dripped all over our patio and it was wet poop so it dripped through too. They aslo only refund the one day i didnt use didnt refund the day we did even though that day was just as bad.

Unfortunately, our stay was very disappointing. The restaurant took over an hour to serve our food, and the dishes arrived burned. Check-in was delayed by over an hour due to housekeeping issues, and the front desk was unable to offer any accommodation for the inconvenience. The public restroom and our room were not clean, the bed was very squeaky, and the hotel’s overall condition was not as properly represented. Overall, it was a poor experience and not what we expected from a hotel stay.

It was a charming stay overall. The hotel has a very old-school feel from the moment you check in, but the internet was surprisingly fast, with a smart TV system that lets you log into your own apps. Keep in mind that this is an older property with no elevators, so packing light is recommended. The rooms are dated and show their age, but considering the hotel’s character and price, we still had a great experience.

At check in, the large fire pit in the lobby was broken and the lobby was cold as well as the adjacent only restuarant on property. Dinner was mediocre and waited over an hour for food after it was ordered. They were out of all steaks, pizzas, bread bowls for soup, cheeses, lemonade. 1st night heater made a clicking sound, room was too hot and neighbors very loud. Breakfast was decent but took over 35 mins to get food. Restaurant was cold for dinner and breakfast and had to wear coats in the lobby and dining. Talked to front desk and property was full and they said sorry, nothing we can do. Decided to leave that afternoon and drive back into Las Vegas, 45 mins away, and let them know we had to leave. Side chair in room had a stain on it as well as lamp shade. 2nd room, 1 of the queen beds was so sagging my niece had to sleep with her daughter. We live locally and go 1-2 times a year and have never had such a bad experience there. Asked to talk to manager on duty and they were all cleaning rooms or in a meeting. Call back promised yesterday asap and still no call back today. Went to breakfast yesterday at 9am, they open at 8am, and 2 ladies sweeping and cleaning from the night before. Our table had a lot of crumbs and dirty forks under it. Horrible experience.

Staff are great. Hotel is tired and poorly maintained. The heating element in our room heater didn’t function, so just blows cold air; we used the el try fireplace for heat but would have preferred to turn it off to have darkness. Room blinds are torn. Surfaces are sticky. The sink spigot is clogged so sprays erratically.

The heating element in our room heater didn’t function, so just blows cold air; we used the el try fireplace for heat but would have preferred to turn it off to have darkness. Room blinds are torn. Surfaces are sticky. The sink spigot is clogged so sprays erratically.

Everything, the place is just like the movie on hallmark. Excellent staff. Will absolutely recomend the place and for sure during Christmas. And what make it better is that is did snow during my stay with mine two small kids; it was just wonderful Actually we like everything, maybe just a suggestion is that they can have there own transportation to bring guest to Lee Canyon and I bet they will pay it.

The hotel feels a little run down but everyone that worked there was nice! We booked there to be close to skiing.

I was told there was a sauna in there was a barbecue grill and when we got there there wasn't any of that and we had to waste our food that we were bringing to cook.

Rustic, Family Friendly, and a nice change of pace from the strip. While rooms weren't exactly my cup of tea, it was a nice reliable place to be for the price.

Very quaint. Large lodge with full restaurant, small snack store, full bar. Rooms are comfortable. The only drawback is that there is no elevator. Built in the early 1980s, it was grandfathered in to not require an elevator. The stairs can be taxing but staff was willing to move us if we chose. Overall, very nice. Could use some updating here and there. Great views.

Now the 2 star review. Although this was clearly a luxurious lodge in its day….it is falling into disrepair. Stairwell smelled as though an animal had died, items stacked in corners of hallways, ice machine not working, rooms out of date, outside needed paint and siding replaced, and I could go on and on and on. Our room was clean, but getting TO our room was rather concerning. Apparently, there are new owners that have a vision to bring this once luxurious lodge back to its grandeur. And, more than anything, I hope this is true. There is SO MUCH potential there!! It just needs LOTS of love, time and attention.

It was nice and clean, front desk and basically all staff were so nice. I bit over priced, almost 300$ for 2 nights On a Monday n Tuesday bit too much. Also restaurant food was ok, I had chicken nachos and the chicken was dry, like from 2 days ago and that was 20$. Unfortunately that's all we had around there.

The room didn’t have a working heater, it was so cold outside 42 degrees. Also the third floor where are room was smelled like weed. We didn’t stay the night, our stay was ruined so we requested a refund. The manager was also very rude.
- 5/5
Staff was friendly and very attentive. Rooms were comfortable, not really remodeled but for sleeping a night , definitely does the job. I mostly booked for the location & easy access for hiking. The restaurant had amazing customer service and the food was great and fast.
- 4/5
Would be nice if breakfast is incuded.
- 5/5
Great place to stay!
- 3/5
The facility was underwhelming overall. Food in restaurant was mediocre and expensive.
- 3.5/5
The location of the property is very nice. The building structure is beautiful and it’s conveniently located close to hiking trails and beautiful scenery The rooms are very small and not as clean as expected. I really wanted to take a bath tub wasn’t clean and the tub stopper was very old, but the rooms were cute and a room with a balcony is a must. Also, there was an access to the fire ring because no one knew how to rent it out. That was quite a disappointment
- 3/5
Beautiful country, very nice and friendly staff. Food was very good. Poor WiFi reception, TV in our room did not work and staff unable to fix it or provide another TV. The light fixture blinked off and on, would have been nice to have a small table in the room.

- 3/5
No microwave in the room
- 3/5
Not what I expected for the price we paid. Restaurant staff needs to be more friendly, smile more and be more attentive to the customers.
- 3/5
Staff the next morning was fairly attentive to our needs but never offered any type of explanation or off set. Breakfast was excellent, great food and very attentive staff. Our third night our room key card failed, it took staff 3 attempts and 30 mins to gain access to our room. We understand it is an older hotel, however the name “retreat” indicates a better quality of stay!
- 2/5
The door to our room had a huge gap underneath which meant you can hear everybody and anybody in the hallways. The walls are so thin, I heard a couple arguing for almost an hour. Some of the room has been updated, we had a King. Definitely overpriced for what was offered. The restaurant/bar closes at nine on a Friday. No clock in the room, and coffee for one person. Most likely would not stay here again.
- 5/5
It was great staying there

Highly recommended for a quick get away from Vegas

The water pressure in the shower was less than desirable, it was essentially just running through the shower head.

Pet-friendly that is something that appreciate for all pets lovers, and my room was so clean and the area is something different from the city, I love all the views, I was available to see the first snow on October 2025

A little much. I was with a buddy. This place was kinda too nice. I would get a nice place like this for a wife or girlfriend but not for a buddy. I hope this is a compliment to most folks. The place is nice.

The next morning housekeeping picked up the clothes, but there was no word from anyone at reception. Upon checkout I asked about this and the receptionist could see that a note was indeed added on our account, however noone had actioned anything. She said the manager was not available, but she would ask them to give us a call to address this. A month later, we haven't heard anything, and this is deeply disappointing. The location is ok, but as others have said the hotel is very run down, definitely not a resort and definitely not worth the premium price. Staff are trying, but it seems that management doesn't care at all.
- 5/5
We had a wonderful time. The room was great and pet friendly. We ate lunch at the restaurant and the food was excellent.
- 3/5

- 4/5
The place is quite amazing. It’s a peaceful and comfortable place to stay, perfect for families. I hope they can organize some family activities in the area. However, the air conditioning inside the room is not very effective.
- 4/5
Perfect getaway from Vegas. The beds were really comfy and the lobby is kind of like a museum mixed w lodge. Booked the room w a balcony and my family loved it!
- 5/5
Great price for a weekday @$90.00+tax. A quaint & rustic feel. Rooms were good sized. Quiet. Has a restaurant & a separate bar & a snack shop open 24 hours. Easy parking. Stayed over for a next day hike in the Spring Mountains. Excellent proximity to a myriad of hiking trails
- 3/5
Staff was really nice. I loved the pet friendly atmosphere. The balconies of the room had great views, fresh air, and a comfortable place to decompress. The food at the restaurant was great. Outside was cool. It’s just a really old hotel that hasn’t had an upgrade for probably 20 years in certain aspects, and in other aspects, probably closer to 50 years.
- 4/5
This is a wonderful place to take a break from Las Vegas city life. The restaurant is great, friendly staff and the room was nice.
- 2/5
Needs renovation, hard with no elevator
- 5/5
the staff was superb
- 5/5
Dont listen to the negative reviews if you dont mind the little imperfections , this was an amazing spot to get away from the Vegas heat, city temp right now is in the low 100s but man does it feel good to be up there in the mountains at a nice cool breezy low 70s down to 60 at night . Get the balcony room if you can its well worth the views
- 4/5
This hotel is perfectly located in the Spring Mountains and you really only have two options. I will say the pictures on Expedia aren’t current (for many areas of the property) there is no longer a pond out front for the example. The lobby is nice they have a 24hr cafe and a restaurant with food I found to be good. After you leave the lobby though there only a frumpy staircase and feelings of a motel in the hallways. The room was comfortable and I loved the Apple TV. I will stay again!
- 4/5
I liked the bar option w food and pool table. You advertise a spa, which there is none or pool or hot tub or fireplace options to maximize property! Lots to improve and maximize…. Definitely would come back, though….

1. Ate in the restaurant for breakfast. The omelet was "dry" and the potatoes were "dry." It's like I was eating old food that was lukewarm. And it took longer than it should have even if they made it from scratch. 2. Door key cards took multiple attempts to work and then stopped working entirely. Staff seemed confused by this. 3. Snack store was never staffed, always had to wait around for someone to go find the worker, who then would ask me to wait while they messed around with the cash register for several minutes. 4. There was no info at the front desk about the surrounding area. 5. Poor sound insulation. I was in room 103 and I basically had to stay up until all activity stopped in the lobby. 6. Cranky, tantrumprone baby and its loudmouth yelling mother constantly running back in forth in the hallway on Saturday night, and poor sound insulation doesn't help. 7. Person roped off the exit to the parking lot while three cars were already trying to exit in that direction. Why? Why not wait until we left the parking lot? What purpose did that serve? 8. No room service, shampoo and body wash were in tiny bottles which weren't enough for the two days I was there (and I have short hair and not much of it)> 9. Loud air conditioning shuts on automatically constantly. 10. TV didn't work. Rest assured I won't be back.
- 5/5
Rustic property for a good getaway for the night. Excellent and very polite guest services. Will be going back.

The TV did not work. The only thing positive was the staff. Michelle at the front desk, Mindy & David at the bar. The food was good. Will never stay here again until they until they upgrade the property. Motel 6 is better. Leaving at 5:99 am. Sorry I paid $140 per night. Worth about $20. Internet photos taken years ago. Will never use Expedia again

- 3/5
Its been afew years since we have beenback here and boy has it changed. The outside just didn't look cared for. Weeds growing everywhere. The property is in need for a major update. Rooms are outdated and need help. The room i had was a short dhower head that barely put out water. Stains in the tub. Tape on the floor holding flooring together, and another chunck of the floor missing. The staff seemed to not want to be there. No customer service skills except one person the overnights front desk clerk. Great personality and so friendly. It really is so sad to see this once wonderful hotel going downhill.
- 4/5
Very nice atmosphere, room was outdated and the property could use some work, but overall good stay and worth the price
- 3/5
Staff very friendly & great service. The TV didn’t work and property needs a facelift.
- 1/5
Staff was incredibly rude, service was terrible, the property itself is fine but our room was definitely a lot more worn in than we expected from the photos. The hotel restaurant is the only one within like 20 miles and we waited at least 20 minutes for a seat when the restaurant was almost completely empty. The door to our room had a lock that didn’t work correctly and in the middle of the night the hotel staff gave a key to our room to another set of guests who came into our room while we were sleeping. Luckily they were normal and polite people who apologized and left respectfully, but when I called the front desk someone who claimed to be the supervisor and did not provide their name was very rude, did not even apologize for what happened and simply said, we’re working on it and did nothing else. We left shortly after that because we felt unsafe. Easily the worst hotel experience I have ever had.
- 4/5
Great place for a get away
- 2/5
During my mid-July stay, we encountered several challenges. The room did not meet expectations and had an unpleasant odor. After requesting that the air freshener be replaced, there was unfortunately no follow-up. The WiFi connection was extremely poor and effectively unusable. Additionally, the ice machine on the third floor was out of service. On the second night, a severe thunderstorm caused a power outage around 7pm, which I understand is a recurring issue. There was no access to restaurant food during this time, which posed difficulties for my family of four. The lack of running water also meant that restrooms were nonfunctional. While an emergency generator provided lighting in the lobby, there was no backup for the hallways or stairwells. Unfortunately, the power was not restored for the remaining 15 hours of our stay.
- 2/5
At check-in, the receptionist was on a personal video call, which she made more important, leaving me waiting until she hung up. The room was dirty, dusty everywhere. The toilet had stains from improper cleaning. None of the vending machines worked. There's no elevator, and the stairs had been repaired with duct tape.
- 3/5
ROOMS: Clean and partially renovated. Some updates look good, others feel cheap. Bathrooms are dated but functional, simple fixes would help. RESTAURANT: Staff is great but stretched thin. The food is good but menu needs a refresh/overhaul. The space is beautiful, but long waits despite open tables. Needs more staff, especially during busy events. CAFE: Also understaffed and limited. Front desk runs it, and the selection is sparse. OVERALL: It’s like camping in a bare-bones hotel, but we’ll be back. I wouldn’t stay longer than one night as-is. With updates I could see spending more time here. If they had more here, they could charge a resort fee or increase prices and it would be worth it. For now I’d say the price is right for what they offer but it has so much potential, not only for the hotel to increase revenue but also for this to be a sought after destination as a summer escape and winter wonderland. It’s our only hotel on Mount Charleston and I just wish it had…more. SUMMARY: It’s a clean place to sleep or grab a meal but I wouldn’t stay more than 1 night.
- 5/5
Great location near Mt Charleston with great views. Wild horses were seen each evening. Rooms were clean and comfortable. They were dated, but that did not bother us.
- 4/5
The restaurant area was spacious, atmospheric and aesthetically pleasing. The menu was just varied enough to accommodate different dietary needs, from gluten free to vegetarian. My grilled salmon-$28 was prepared perfectly, not overcooked, with a very tasty vegetable laced sauce that compensated for the lack of a carb (rice, potato, grain) My husband’s burger and onion rings-$22.00, were prepared to his liking as well, but next time we’re ordering the fish and chips that was served at a neighboring table and looked scrumptious. The Old Fashioneds were excellent, a very generous pour, and well balanced, with a luxardo cherry as an added perk, so though they were $16 each they were worth every cent. Our server was very helpful and welcoming which is almost as important as the fare, imo. The room was not overly spacious, but it was comfortable for the two of us, and though the furnishings showed years of wear, everything was clean. We would suggest a couple small improvements, a nightlight or some dimmable light, a cover for the ice bucket, and a microwave. The only real downside was a breakdown in communication in the online service. It sends messages and requests are not shared which made for unnecessary confusion.
- 2/5
No outlets worked in room. The watermelon I bought from the little store tasted spoiled. And the outdoor tables that used to be outside were replaced with rickety old picnic tables. Just could’ve done better, seemed like everyone could see there was issues but just didn’t care. Super bummer. Seems like since it’s the only option to stay up there it’s run like they don’t care about the guest
- 5/5
Place was excellent great spot
- 2/5
Wasn't greeted like they really appreciated my family as a guests. Me No elevator but Wasn't offered a cart or help bringing items up to 3rd floor room. Basic rooms and basic atmosphere.
- 4/5
Only complain is the WIFI , it’s so bad
- 4/5
Great rustic, historic, mountain property. Good price for the type of room it was. No elevator so be sure you can do stairs if you get 2nd floor or 3rd floor. Nice get away. Nothing broken but needs some cosmetic renovation needed. Staff was very good and helpful.
- 5/5
This is a great place to unwind and dine. My sons and I love the short drive from Vegas
- 5/5
Its nice that its close to the mountains. Property does need some attention. Balconies in rooms are a plus .
- 4/5
Very nice staff, but the room had a nonfunctional thermostat and heater
- 2/5
The location is great! The property has a lot of deferred maintenance and the restaurant food was very disappointing (breakfast and dinner). Staff are nice and courteous. Rooms are clean.
- 1/5
The Retreat at Charleston Peak is anything but a retreat. It is the worst hotel I have ever stayed at. Maintenance has been neglected for years and ownership must not care. To describe the hotel in one word -- decrepit.
- 5/5
Friendly courteous quiet setting.
- 4/5
Mount Charleston is a beautiful escape from Vegas. We enjoyed the views from our 3rd floor room with balcony. The staff at the front desk, bar and restaurant were friendly. The property itself is a little run down and could use some updates but it was perfect for a quick getaway.
- 5/5
I wanted to beat the Vegas heat and was able to book a room with a balcony the day before. As many have mentioned, the property is outdated, but the scenery more than makes up for it. I loved that it was pet friendly, my doggie enjoyed the property as well.
- 3/5
No elevator. Needs some upgrading.
- 5/5
Great property and location in the mountains. Good for hikers, explorers and just a get away. Pure Gem
- 3/5
CONS: Room 301 and other rooms on 3rd floor are not level, and not level by quite a bit. When walked in room you felt the angle of the floor right away. You can tell how bad the room is by looking at the outside door frame at the bottom. Our room could use some care and attention. Overall we were happy with our stay and would probably stay there again but will look for other places before selecting The retreat at mt chalestion
- 5/5
Amazing place
- 2/5
We have stayed at this hotel in the past and it was amazing. This trip not so much. Had to ask for rollaway bed twice. There was soap in the bathroom with hair on it when we got there as well as hair in the bathtub. The service and food at the restaurant was amazing, however.
- 4/5
Beautiful location, great balcony and view and had everything we needed. Due to high winds our power did go out and that was a bummer. No elevator so if that’s something you need this is not the place for you.
- 5/5
The bridal suite was incredible. The only complaint was the AC not being as effective as we would like
- 2/5
Unfortunately, my stay also included a mix-up—on my second night, my room was double-booked. Another couple walked in using their key card, not realizing the room was already occupied. It was awkward and surprising for both of us, and I felt bad that the front desk couldn’t find another room for them. To top it off, my key card was deactivated, and I had to go to the front desk to get it reactivated and confirm my room was still reserved for the last night of my stay. Meanwhile, the other couple was still trying to sort out accommodations with no success. The night staff seemed overwhelmed, and I think additional training would help them handle situations like this more smoothly and professionally. On a positive note, the Retreat is ideally located for hiking and the ski resort. It's only a 20 minute drive to Skye Canyon where there are restaurants, fuel & groceries.
- 5/5
The Retreat on Charlston Peak is a beautiful property and an exquisite location. We enjoyed the craft fair, and even bustling with people, it’s peaceful here. The restaurant was terrific, especially the breakfast. The staff is friendly and helpful. I would definitely come back.
- 5/5
Very nice and helpful staff. Quick to make you happy.
- 4/5
This find was amazing! Super cute, older facility with a great restaurant and amazing staff working their tails off on the busy Memorial Day weekend. We would go there again if we are in that area.
- 3/5
Lovely place! A few comments...there is no electrical outlet to plug phone in. Every outlet is already used.. except bathroom! There isn't enough sugar and creamer for 2 cups of coffee! A microwave would be a total plus!
- 1/5
They need to advise people that the road up here should not be driven by heavy vehicles. We are moving hence I drove a moving truck up this road, I will be using every skill I ever gained. Having a CDL to get this truck back down the road. The road is terrifying. However, the floor in our room has almost as much slant as the road does, and the rollaway bed that we requested doesn't really fit in the room. If you want to be able to walk. The excuse given we're overbooked, that's not my fault. When I asked about the rollaway the front desk had to go get it and proceeded to leave it in the hallway with sheets and blankets on top, I've never had to make my own bed in a hotel before. Certainly not at these prices. Never again
- 1/5
The room was so filthy that I used half a package of disinfectant wipes on the remote controls, phone, door knobs, and countertops. The trash cans were covered in grim. Hair in the sink and tub. The bed frame had a broken leg. The window would not stay open. Zero cell service. No tv options unless you opt to log in to your personal accounts. And the power was out from 11 PM until I checked out the next morning at 6AM. No hot water, pitch black in the halls. The only generator they have is for the lobby. To say this was a horrible experience is putting it kindly.
- 5/5
Staff as great. Room was a bit dated, but the bed was comfortable.
- 1/5
Stay away from this place - my wife and I for the most part had a horrible experience. On the last night the electricity went out and there was no water. The morning of our departure we got out of there as fast as possible with little or no sleep. Management did not care and no compensation was offered for the incredible inconvenience, not even a free danish and free cup of coffee. They absolutely did not care! Terrible!!!
- 2/5
rooms need to be updated
- 1/5
Don't be fooled by the pretty photos, this place needs to be shut down. The room was on third floor, no elevator just stairs that were duct taped together, literally. Bathroom was so nasty we didnt want to take showers, moldy grout, super dirty tub, cracked sink. Flys came in under the door to the miniscule patio that smelled of fried foods, molding on floor coming apart with exposed nails. Bed was super old and bouncy, carpet disgusting and dirty. Top it off with a power outage, no lights in halls or stairwells, very dangerous. Didnt even offer free coffee in the morning to go with the clogged toilets and no running water. The restaurant was super expensive, must be their big money maker. Tried getting a different room but they said they were full up. Seriously run the other way!!!
- 3/5
very noisy rooms that have clearly not been updated for many years. Grease and grime on walls and the bathroom was not cleaned very well.
- 5/5
I truly enjoyed my stay. The staff welcomed me and while i was there. It was storming. I was able to sleep with my door open and watched the rain. Also the hotel staff rented me binoculars to stargaze it was nice.
- 2/5
I believe this property is only in business because there are no other hotels around. This was not a "retreat" in any sense of the word. Very disappointing stay. I waited 15 minutes at the bar for a menu. The bartender never provided me with one even when I asked for one of the two she had in her hand. She ignored me and went about her job. When we left the bar she told us to have a nice day. When the wind was blowing up in the mountain area our back patio door would whistle because of the gaps about the door. The hallway was loud with music from other rooms. The Apple TV buffered so much we gave up trying to watch tv.
- 2/5
Property old and dirty
- 3/5
No hangers for clothes, mold around tub, have ask for towels. Great bed and view
- 5/5
The rooms and service were a little lacking but the beauty of the hotel and the grounds made up for it, and we are low maintenance so it didn’t bother us but don’t come here expecting to be waited on hand and foot. As for us, we will be returning often!
- 3/5
The outsides of the building were run down and needed to be cleaned up, the staff were all very polite. We ate dinner in the restaurant again the staff was very nice. The menu lacks a ready of options. While traveling low sodium options would be nice other than salads. The fries don’t have an option of no salt and so I skipped the fries and opted for just a BLT. The bacon not only was so salty and tasted rancid couldn’t eat it. The location was nice out of the busy town the staff was nice and I know it’s an older building but some things can be done to spruce it up.
- 4/5
Really enjoyed our stay here. Beds were comfortable. Tub was skinny. Room was very plain, almost dated looking. Our friends were staying upstairs in what was called a bridal suite, and there was such a stark difference. Theirs was so nice! It looked like it had been decorated with the utmost care, with so much attention to detail. Sad part is (for us) is that it wasn’t that much more per night to have a room like that. I kind of feel gypped. 😅 Sink on the right in our room had zero water pressure. (Room 103) Shower barely worked. It took forever to rinse the shampoo out of my hair. Stuff happens, I let them know. Would definitely stay here again-it’s a bit far from Vegas for doing the strip that Vegas is known for, but it was worth the extra driving. We went on a hike before we left and it was so peaceful. Loved it here.

I went to check in and they said that the reservation was canceled. I had a paid receipt from Expedia that I showed him and they said too bad. I showed him that Expedia had just texted me this email asking how was your check-in. There were people behind me wanting to check in and I said how can somebody check in because you’re full You do have a room for them but you don’t have one for me and she said yes your reservation was canceled. There wasn’t. I calmly asked for the manager. The manager came down found me a room that they have that needed to be cleaned. I will get a room, but it’s been at least a half an hour

Lack of TV service makes this not ok with me otherwise it's a 4 star rating

The moment I have entered the room none of the lights are working. After complaining they restored one light and again I have to reach out to them for fixing the other light.I have paid for 3 people but they gave only 2 sets of towels and soap.Again I have to call them for an extra set. Horrible hotel and they charged me 28$ for nothing and they are not even answering why they charged that amount.Though the location is nice this hotel is not the place to stay for the families

It was a pretty view to wake up to. Average hotel, cute, charming. Definetly recommend a room with a balcony. Great to sit out at night and star watch

Bathroom was filthy. We got a lysol wipe bottle to clean in/around surfaces and ended up scrubbing the floor with these wipes in the bathroom because of how dirty and sticky it was. I wiped the floors by hand, with these wipes. Dont take off your shoes.. seriously bring slippers & never hop out of bed without them. Lobby has trash & dust bunnies everywhere, not kept up. We woke up super stuffy in our rooms due to how dirty it was probably. Wont be coming back here… also the road leading here is unlit & you will lose service on your way out there. The housekeepers were right next door and around 8am they would begin talking so loud & noisy yelling back and forth to each other in the hallway meanwhile my daughter was trying to sleep. Very inconsiderate & annoying to hear at 8.On our second night heading back to the hotel, we were driving back around 10pm and suddenly I had to swerve randomly into the other lane because some smart person decided to pull an ENTIRE semi truck trailer (on its wheels) with a literal tractor… yes you read that right… I cannot make this up. Unlit road, no emergency lights, could NOT see this trailer in pitch black dark! Luckily my truck lights are bright, but let me tell you! That was SCARY & I had my 4.5 month old in the backseat. Absolutely ridiculous that people are out there doing such dangerous things like this meanwhile there are still cars going up and down this road. I hope no one got hurt, but keep an eye out for idiots doing s*** like that.

The Cathedral National Park picnic area was locked even in April.? We saw the previous lake photo in front of the hotel. Hope that the lake or water would come back one day. Overall, I enjoyed my quite stay here, away from the metro life and connecting to the nature.

Lobby does offer a pool table, fireplace and vending. No alcohol or gaming at this time. Dinner service by Nick was amazing. As well as the food.
