Reviews
The 1927 Lake Lure Hotel offers a unique, historic experience with a beautiful location and friendly staff. However, some guests have expressed concerns about the cleanliness, size of the rooms, and outdated amenities.
- Historic charm and ambiance
- Beautiful location with lake views
- Cleanliness issues in some rooms
- Small, outdated rooms with limited amenities
- 5/5
What a quaint wonderful hotel. Enjoyed my stay very much…just too short! I highly recommend to those of you looking for something a little slower pace and a throw back atmosphere…they even have “real” keys to unlock your room door!

Old southern charm and hospitality at its best ! Julie and Laura not only went above and beyond for us they became our new friends. Will most definitely be returning soon
- 5/5
Everything was very nice. Staff are friendly & hospitable.
- 5/5
Charming historical inn with the most awesome staff.
- 5/5
Judy and Chrissy are amazing. There’s a third lady and she is just as amazing just didn’t catch her name.
- 4/5
The staff was very nice! The location is perfect for Lake Lure - it’s perfect for being by Lake Lure Beach. The parking is easy. It is an older historic hotel - tiny showers, thin walls, and it is looking a little weathered.
- 3/5
The reason I gave the Inn a poor rating on amenities was the bar was closed, the restaurant was closed, and the staff(which was excellent) was only on duty from 8 a.m.to 8 p.m. Lucky we didn't need anything as the rooms were well stocked, but if we did we would have to call and wait for a person to come help. I think that the Inn should have let me know they were on a winter schedule until Memorial Day and the bar and restaurant were closed. I probably would have booked somewhere else. It is a historic hotel and I understand the fixtures are old, but the toilet kept cycling and as mentioned no one was available to fix it after hours. Not a big problem but a little annoying. I will state once again that the two ladies at the front desk were friendly, efficient, and super nice. Thank you ladies.

We only stayed one night. The Inn had not opened for the season yet. It is still recovering from hurricane Helene as is all of Lake Lure. Therefore, there was no dining available. We only encountered one staff person. The reception desk young woman, who was extremely courteous and accommodating. She even offered to take our bags upstairs to our room since the elevator was out of commission. Would definitely return again when everything is in operation.

The staff members were very helpful and knowledgeable about areas!

Rooms were clean and comfortable. The staff was amazing and friendly.

The Property faces Lake Lure which is a pleasant view. There's quaint restaurant around the corner. It had a nice little grassy doggy pad. And the hotel welcomes dogs sincerely love that and a few of the restaurant has outdoor seating so dogs are welcome.

When we booked our room on Jan 4 it was described that breakfast was included. Upon arrival was told breakfast was discontinued but the room price remained the same. Was told breakfast was available but it required a 20 minute drive each way. Disappointed. Plenty of parking. Internet and phone service spotty.Bar and restaurant closed. Staff at check in was wonderful.

I visited in the off season, but the hotel is lovely. If you're used to staying in the cookie cutter hotels that all look the same, this hotel will surprise you. It's all furnished with antiques. There's so much charm and personality here. It's delightful! Don't hesitate to come here thinking the hurricane has everything closed. Lake Lure is very near "full pool" now. The town is open for business and could use your support. The staff helped me out with tips on local events and attractions. Go to Lake Lure! Stay at the Inn!

Great room with a gorgeous view. Lauren, the desk clerk was super sweet. Parking easy out front. Love all the antiques !!

Unfortunately, due to the flooding last year, no restaurant, bar nor spa was available. I would have liked to know that before booking. Staff was very nice but only worked limited hours. At arrival, no other cars were in the parking lot. Front door was unlocked, but nobody in the hotel. There was an envelope on the front desk with my name on it. Inside was a room key (an actual key) and a nice note to lock the front door behind me for the night, or if we went out again. I was taken back at first, but it did add a friendly small-town appeal to the property. The room and shower were clean and tidy but very dated and small.

Very nice motel. Will be back

Room was clean and bed was comfortable. The bathroom needs some minor changes. The shower curtain clings to you, needs to be longer w magnets. There’s absolutely no place to put any of your bathroom items or makeup. A small table or low shelving in the closet with no doors would help. Closet is in the bathroom. The shelf over the toilet leans & if touched things start to slide forward and it’s directly over the toilet with NO lid. Back of toilet there’s an handicap rail & prevents much of anything there. It does have an older look to fit the time period, but there needs to be some adjustments to have places to put your bathroom travel things. Small microwave and refrigerator. Tv is very high up & very small and it’s across the room from the bed. Being so close to the ceiling I got a creak in my next trying to look at it from the sofa. Man made lake/pond is across the road. Not far from chimney rock entrance & reason we were there. There’s so much going on and it’s coming back slowing. So much work to do in so many areas it’s gonna take time. Restaurant is closed and there’s no breakfast or anything around serving any so bring stuff with you or wait till lunch.

Lindsey and her staff did a great job! We love the Lake Lire area and community!
- 4/5
Room is historic
- 4/5
Staff was great though it seemed to be a skeleton crew.
- 5/5
Thus hotel was a get away from all get aways. The staff treated you like family and the atmosphere felt like home. The room was immaculate, clean and cozy.
- 4/5
Great place to stay, room does need some upgrades. The view is beautiful. Would stay again if in the area.
- 5/5
Nice and clean and cozy
- 5/5
Love the old charm of this inn.
- 5/5
Nice, quiet, relaxing place to stay. Excellent inhouse bar and restaurant.
- 5/5
It was a great place to stay. Room was excellent. The view outside was nice.
- 4/5
Great stay. Quite and charming.
- 4/5
Clean room, staff are friendly, peaceful location, breakfast simple continental pastries.
- 5/5
Room was nice. Breakfast was not much for price paid for a room
- 5/5
Everything about our stay at Lake Lure Inn was amazing! Clean rooms, great food, quiet, elegant, interesting, charming, friendly staff...just lovely!!!

Was fine
- 5/5
all of it
- 5/5
Ambience of the place. A genuinely fun experience in a unique building that didn’t feel old but felt like stepping into a bit of the past.
- 5/5
The service was outstanding and the facility is beautiful. I thoroughly enjoyed my stay and hope to be back soon.
- 4/5
Hotel with all the pictures and history is very cool. Location is great. Staff was friendly. Hotel needs a lot of renovation. Beds are really firm, tvs are old and need replaced, continental breakfast is lacking. All in all was still a great experience.
- 1/5
Very old property .. doors don’t work.. stairs are dirty.. flooring is old and dirty
- 4/5
Staff was super friendly. Facilities definitely showing its age. Cool experience because of the history surrounding the hotel.
- 4/5
Coffee makers should have been labeled. Our room 222 had the tiniest bathroom ever seen with a toilet that was only 12” tall & very hard to get off of. The Wand was missing from one of the blinds. Thank God hubby could reach to close it with his fingers. The queen bed was very comfortable. We had no soap to wash our hands with. Only shower wash in a tiny tube was provided. We tripped on the bathroom step up a few times. Ouch! It was very awkward. The wall A/C was quite loud with white noise, but okay with earplugs, which I brought. The old fashioned room keys emphasized just how much this was a Historical Hotel. Nearly 100 years old!
- 2/5
The rooms need to be totally gutted! The rug must of been 30 years old and never been cleaned. We traveled with my pup who is allergic to many things. He is finally well after 8 years due to a new drug. He now has an awful infection and has to be on Prednisone to get him to stop scratching. Imagine paying $60 and then having a sick dog because of the dirty room. We were in the room for only 16 hours. There was a power strip where the frig and micro was and that was the only place to charge phones, etc. The lighting was awful. Even the toilet seat was bizarre. There was no room on the sink to put anything on and there was no soap. The breakfast was decent. Parking was good.
- 5/5
The Lake is under construction. The inn is very nice and rich with History. Great service!
- 5/5
Love this place - beautiful furnishings and art
- 4/5
Loved the history of the Inn. Quite and cozy. I wish the restaurant, bar and spa was open while i was there. But will catch then next time
- 5/5
This old inn is full if antiques and so beautiful. The desk clerk, Laura, was super friendly and helpful
- 5/5
Beautiful
- 3/5
The lobby and main hallways are grand and amazing with beautiful furniture, artwork, and antiques. However, once you get off the main halls, there is a musty smell. The rooms are very, very old. There is a stong musty odor. Luckily, we were able to open the windows. The shower is very tiny and looks like the tile is original to the hotel, but the water pressure was good. The bed and pillows were of adequate comfort. Cleanliness was pretty good given that the rooms are so old, and it is hard to clean old things and make them shiny.
- 5/5
We spent 2 nights at the inn. They are trying very hard when their community was devastated by hurricane Helene. The Inn was constructed in 1927 and there is a lot of history at the Inn. The rooms were updated and clean and they had nice products in the bathroom. There were beautiful plantings on the grounds. Hopefully the lake will be open next spring. Please support this lovely inn.
- 5/5
Even though the lake was closed we enjoyed the area.
- 2/5
But was very disappointed in the room. It was an absolute mess. My teen said it was the worst room ever. -All around just seemed dirty -Dirty smelling sheets/comforter, -The soap holder in Shower was dangling -Bathroom smelled bad -Shower did not look clean -The Toilet was leaking from tank when flushed It was so bad that I seriously considered just leaving and eating the cost, but the surrounding properties had limited availability. Definitely would not ever stay there again. We stayed in the area because my daughter was getting married about 30min away...
- 5/5
There wasn’t anything to do in the area since this area was hit from the storm and crews were completing cleanup and restoration. But the hotel was very nice and we enjoyed our stay.
- 5/5
Concierge available 24 hours. Very friendly and knowledgeable.
- 5/5
Absolutely loved staying here. The Inn is like a museum with so many historical photos, artifacts, and interesting things to learn. The staff was wonderful, and I just felt incredibly welcomed. Things are still quiet around the area, but I am so grateful I visited!
- 4/5
The property exist in an excellent location for guest to easily enjoy all that Lake Lure and Chimney Rock have to offer. It is walkable to the beach and local bars/restaurants. The property is clean and run by excellent hosts. The inn was opened in the same year as the dam and therefore possesses volumes of history in its walls. That said, the inn is very dated and could use more comfortable bedding and up to date in-room entertainment but I would still encourage others to visit and will stay there in future visits
- 5/5
The beds were so comfortable! The hotel itself is beautiful and the pool was warm and clean. The area was quiet and low key. Very relaxing sitting out front drinking my coffee reading a book.
- 5/5
Great and pleasant experience at this unique property. Feels like staying at the museum. Well kept considering its age. Great staff. Will definitely come back.
- 5/5
Hotel was very dated but that’s the charm! It’s called 1927 Inn. Staff very pleasant and a very convenient location to chimney rock and lake lure.
- 4/5
The staff are so nice and accommodating! It's an old historic hotel so i was not expecting a modern experience. The location is great - waking distance to multiple restaurants; more are opening up as they rebuild. Food at Moose and Goose was SO good! I encourage people to go visit, support these business and people. Don't expect perfection and you'll have the best time!
- 1/5
Don’t go here if you’re looking for comfort. This is not a spa. This is a very old building with a bunch of rooms in it that are overcharging you each night for your stay. If you like a very hard bed, and spiderwebs in your room, and a very loud floor, then this is definitely the place for you. Oh, and by the way, the staff is rude.
- 5/5
Great place
- 5/5
If you're there on a Sunday, don't miss the Prime Rib brunch. I am happy to help support this area as it undergoes the massive clean-up following Hurricane Helene.
- 5/5
Nice property
- 5/5
It’s a historic place to stay. Friendly staff and clean. Dated but it is a very old establishment. That is what is so charming about it.
- 4/5
Great historic hotel.
- 5/5
I was only here for one night on business but the TV channel selection was pretty poor. Staff was a bare minimum, I imagine because the Lake was lowered to do maintenance.
- 5/5
Excellent service
- 5/5
Lovely room, friendly and helpful staff. Can't wait to come back once the lake is restored.
- 5/5
Really enjoyed our stay
- 4/5
Nice and quiet. The town is still recovering from Hurricane Helene, but it is still beautiful!
- 5/5
The parking in the annex area is a little tight, but manageable.
- 5/5
This was probably one of my favorite hotels I’ve ever stayed in. Yes the rooms are super basic, but the hotel had character unlike anything I’ve seen. It’s sad to think every place built now has no character. Hotels, houses, restaurants everything is cookie cutter. This place was special. And the bartender and front room staff were very personable, and gave great info.
- 5/5
Great stay except bed. Bed was very hard and uncomfortable
- 1/5
No hot show water. Noise heater machine.
- 5/5
.
- 4/5
Room could have been a bit cleaner in regards to bathroom. Not fond of tiny shower, but get that it is part of an old room.
- 1/5
The main building and bar are nice very lovely when you register. It was not made clear when I booked that you did not get a room in the hotel. I got stuck in a motel that was disgusting, moldy and smelled like something absolutely horrible. This was after I called and complained about the first room which was supposed to be a queen suite - it was even worse. The front desk was friendly and tried to help but apparently the main building was booked- do not stay in the “beachside motel” worse than anything I have experienced- if I didn’t have a 6 hour drive home I would of just left. Don’t make the same mistake.
- 5/5
What a wonderful step back in time to stay in a motel open at 1927! Motels in great shape and really clean. With a nice restaurant and bar and pool.
- 3/5
The hotel is historic with restaurants across the street, the room is small but comfortable.
- 2/5
Booked through Expedia and was overcharged for a room. To add to that note, we weren’t even placed in a room in the main lodge. On arrival we were told we were staying in the motor lodge, didn’t even know this was a thing? Also were told at that time about it being $65 although we had already paid $91. Once in the room which was okay…there was a couple bottles of water with the ice bucket which of course like any normal people we drank only later to find out they were an extra $3 dollars. Also found multiple hairs in the bed linens and they were very very worn also. Didn’t feel very clean after this. Traveler beware and stay elsewhere. Wish we had listened to other reviews. Won’t be back!
- 5/5
Always been a Nice place with pleasant atmospere/hope the new owners keep it charming
- 3/5
The suites are extremely small, not much difference between a suite and a regular room.
- 4/5
This property while older, had so much charm. The antiques and art work were amazing. The staff went abaove and beyond to make our stay wonderful. Perfect for a sisters trip. Wpuld go again.
- 5/5
The hotel has quite a bit of history and the room we had was not as big as a modern hotel room but was very comfortable with everything we needed
- 1/5
The lobby was interesting with a lovely collection of old music machines. Having said that I understand that the hotel has recently changed hands and the new owners plan to fully renovate it though the museum pieces in the lobby will also be going.
- 5/5
The only issue i had, was on expedia it says a jetted tub in the economy room. Well there isnt one. But thats not on the Inn. Queen size bed, coffee maker, iron and iron board, The bathroom had just a small shower. The beach was right across from us. And the view is beautiful. Room was clean. We had a few issues with the tv remote not working and coffee pot not working. Front desk got it fixed quickly. If i could change anything, i wish the room had a fridge or a place closer to get ice.
- 2/5
The property did the best it could under the circumstances. To blame would be Expedia; in which Expedia booked us the wrong room & charged more than the hotel directly would have. Expedia booked with us 2 queen bed room for our party of 4 (2 adults/ 2 child) but reserved a 1 queen bed for us through the hotel. The hotel did upgrade us to a cabin; but it only has 1 king bed & they added a twin roll up bed. I am very disappointed with Expedia & will be booking directly through the hotel or a different platform moving forward.
