Great location and really friendly helpful staff. Spanish queen rooms are small and on the older size but the team have added air con machines and other nice touches to try enhance the experience.

We did not stay! It was not clean and smelled dirty. We could hear everything in the room next to ours especially the TV. Unfortunately i paid and we are having a hard time with a refund! The only good thing was Nathan, the guy at the desk! He kept trying to make us happy but we just had to leave! It is old and the rooms are really small.

Overall, the cost of the stay (483$) for one night did not match the expectation. It is a boutique hotel, but appeared to be run down. During the night, loud noises of water pipes banging, people flushing their toilets and showering. Caulk splattered around the bathroom appliances, mirrors rusty and faded. All this adds to the character of an old hotel, but not for the cost.

Great experience from start to finish! I had some questions before our trip and called the hotel directly. I spoke to Felix and Nathan and I found both men friendly and helpful. Also, they both continued to make sure our stay was enjoyable from the time we arrived until we left! Thanks guys!

Easy process, very accommodating staff, and walking distance to the beach! Parking was a bit off putting since its a process to unload and reload further away... Cross the streets.. that sort of thing, but! Its still close so not a huge problem at all!

There’s no traditional breakfast just muffins, coffee, tea, and breakfast bars. Free waters at the front which I appreciated. Nice staff, but outdated rooms. Live music at the street level restaurant was nice, but not a good menu if you want an actual meal. Rooftop bar was the selling point for us but had bad music, with mediocre food and slow service. Good location, but won’t be returning as I like a more modern stay.

La Casa Del Camino is a historic hotel (built in 1929) and it has plenty of character. The best feature is not the building but the staff - they really cared about us and spent the time to talk with us and to make us feel like family. The other reason to stay here is that the hotel is right above a secluded beach with beautiful rock formations that few people go to. It feels like a private island getaway. The location is near some nice cafes and restaurants, and a 15 to 20 minute walk to Main Beach and downtown. Our room had a partial ocean view. The room was clean and well decorated, we liked the style of the furnishings. Plumbing was a bit old (fixtures had significant calcium deposits, and the bathroom faucet was a bit drippy). Overall this is a pleasant place to stay if you want to spend time relaxing on the beach and exploring Laguna Beach.

The restaurant downstairs was absolutely delicious. And the fact that the beach is less than a minute from you is quite amazing. Falling asleep and waking up to the sound the ocean waves is second to none. Highly recommend this hotel.

The pictures on the website are very miss leadin. The rooms are extremely small. The bathroom was step-in, sit down, and step-out. I was very much looking forward to staying at that hotel but w did not! The first flush of the toilet was a clog drain. The desk person asked if we thought a plunger would work. Yes, probably but I was not going to do that all the time. By this time it was 10:30 m or so and I told him we were not going to stay. Pack up again, load car and leave. All of this was after a 6 hour drive from Arizona.

Great location, steps from the beach. Takes a very long time to check in here I had came in 3 times to check in and the 4th time they said the room was ready then said nvm, was a bit annoying with a 1 year old exhausted and running around everywhere. But if your in no hurry js a good location and cute rooftop !!

Booked the hotel mostly because of the rooftop bar but it was closed on Saturday due to a party. Did get to enjoy it on Sunday. Food was just ok but view is fantastic. If I was to stay in Laguna again someday, I would stay away from the Main Street as it's way too noisy from bikes and cars racing up and down the street all day and night. Room itself was pretty nice with a great balcony. Staff were a friendly. Parking was a half a block away but still very convenient.

The con is that we barely slept a wink - the walls are paper thin and our room was next to the elevator/door to back of house so we were constantly woken by trolleys and trash banging by the door and other guests coming out of the elevator to go to their room. There is a 1/4” gap around the door so not only does it let in all the noise, there is also a bright light shining into the room all night. All that said, the bed was comfy, but at a minimum bring ear plugs and a sleep mask if you want to get a good night of sleep (and this is coming from a heavy sleeper). The other down side is that part of the reason I booked this hotel is for the rooftop, and it was closed for a private event :(

  • Alma May 2026 · via hotels.com

The main reason I booked this hotel was for the rooftop bar and restaurant overlooking the ocean. It was closed for private party the whole entire time I was there.. Our room was absolutely the tinest room I have ever stayed in in my life! We had to walk single file to get to the bed.. the continental breakfast was a bran muffin (only choice) and coffee.

The property was quite charming, nice lobby and the sunset was very nice from the rooftop bar. However, the room was very bad, there was a bad smell the minute you open the door, an obvious moisture problem (window edges were also in a very bad shape), the room was so small we barely managed to fit it, especially because of the cooling device that was in the middle of the floor, blocking the desk area completely. Location was good and we appreciated the free parking but definetly not recommended overall.

Beautiful room with great decor, ocean view, within walking distance of everything. We will certainly stay there again. Only reason we didn’t give 5 stars is because their luggage cart is really old & very difficult to maneuver in narrow elevator & around tight corners. Free coffee in the lobby & in the room not worth drinking, definitely go to a coffee shop, there are plenty of great ones near the hotel.

Rooftop bar was great! Hallways were not cleaned—toilet exhaust on the 2nd floor restroom was not working, smelled bad throughout the corridors. Bed was too soft, if not broken, and very hard to sleep. Room was clean, but no door on the bathroom. Generally could use a better maintenance program. Ambience is unique and very historical.

The room was terrible. Very small, dirty. Window overlooked dirty alley. The bathroom window didn’t fully close, which raised safety concerns for me. The bed was very uncomfortable. The only good things I can say are, the staff was nice, and it was a short walk to the beach. The charges at check in were also considerably higher than what was advertised on Expedia. The room itself was a disaster though. Very small which I expected but the furnishings were out of date and lacked any effort to modernize whatsoever. The largest issue we had was that we were in a queen room and the mattress frame was made for possibly a double-bed so when we sat on the edge of the bed or the bottom, the entire mattress would want to come off the frame. What a joke for them not to purchase a correctly sized frame. The outside patio also did not have any type of lock on the door so although someone would have had to gain entrance from the adjacent room, it could have been done and we felt at risk. Do yourself a favor and spend the extra $100 or so and stay in a legit room nearby at another property. The check-in person was very nice however and did let us check in a bit early so she was great. We will not be back ever though - period.

Once we got there, it was obvious why. We were placed in a ground-floor room between the loading dock and the grease trap/dumpster area. This should not be considered an acceptable guest room location. The window was fogged out and screwed shut, which seemed to conceal the trash cans and service area directly outside. There was no fresh air and no way to ignore where this room was located. The worst part was that you could smell trash in the room. No matter how clean a room may look, if the air smells like garbage, it ruins the entire experience. On top of that, we were awakened before 7 a.m. every morning by either delivery trucks or trash being dumped. This was not occasional noise. It was loud, consistent, and impossible to sleep through. What makes this even more frustrating is that the hesitation at check-in suggested the hotel already knew this room was a problem. A room in that location, with that smell and that level of noise, should either be taken out of service or fully disclosed before assigning it to guests. Overall, this felt misleading and unacceptable.

Really unique space, which was awesome and the staff were great! However, my room really didn’t match what I had booked, there wasn’t any hot water in my room, and the towel rack fell out of the wall. So just a few things that detracted from the stay, but quiet and comfortable otherwise and beach access down the street.

Our room did not have a bathroom door on it! Not sure why, but there is plenty of space to put a barn door/sliding door on for some privacy. Also had a mobile/portable A/C on wheels which took up needed floor space in an already small room, and it was loud. Not sure why they don't invest in those sleek, slim, wall-mounted A/C units with remote controls. Would get that big clunky unit off the floor. None of the windows opened - bathroom window nailed shut. Had to have someone from the front desk show us how to use the TV - there were no instructions in the room. They need a few more larger menu options at the Roof Top Lounge, and the coconut shrimp was like the frozen ones you buy at Costco, didn't seem homemade. Staff was friendly and attentive.

The staff gave us the worst room possible. TV and bathroom vent dont work. The bed is is definitely a full size bed and they advertised it as “spanish queen”. The doors are dirty and the windows dont even close. I was supposed to get an ocean view and instead I got a view of the alley behind the hotel. I went to the lobby to fix this and he said “sorry the hotel is the one that is ocean view, not the room. It will be $200 more if you want an upgrade”. Our room was reserved for ocean view. Upon arrival the manager at the front desk gave us a room looking into the courtyard. I went back to ask about the slight and he said that room is what we booked and Expedia was wrong in their description. After, a back and forth he finally gave us a room that had an ocean view. I’m going to state here that you tend to get what you pay for. Small room, oversized furniture that makes it even smaller. Hotel has spruced itself up overtime it seems but still feels tired and could use a little deferred maintenance. Location not so bad. Healthy walk into the village.

This hotel is older but it is a great location. Easy walking distance on the upper end from restaurants and a beautiful cove below. The hotel provides chairs and umbrellas to enjoy. Our room had a great ocean view and they do allow dogs which is a plus. The rooftop bar is fun to enjoy a drink or food, and a nice restaurant below. Highly recommend but remember it is older, our room bathroom floor really needed to be redone, but clean.

Kind of a strange stay. The location is insanely awesome. But that’s about all that’s good about it. The rooftop is not open Monday and Tuesday, so be warned. They don’t really say that anywhere and I was bummed about that. Also, the slamming of the doors… holy moley. Housekeeping doesn’t close doors, they SLAM doors. So hard that it shakes the entire building, and that is not an exaggeration. It’s super weird. Also, my shower didn’t drain which was weirdly gross. It’s all just super run down. And I hate to throw this kid under the bus because I know it’s hard to find good help, but when I checked out, the kid that “helped” me had to finish sending his text before even acknowledging me. This is the hospitality industry. At least look at me? He just kind of stayed staring at his phone, and reached up for the keys from the counter without ever looking up or saying a word. I just don’t understand why such an awesome location is wasted on a subpar business. Anyway, I hope this review helps other people.

Room was relatively clean, but neither the ceiling fan or fan light worked, nor did any lights in the Bathroom. We had to use our cell phone lights after dark to use the bathroom or take a shower. Went and advised staff and they advised it is an old hotel and things like this happen. They never offered to fix the lights or move us. What was worse was the strong smell of sewage coming up from the bathtub and faucets. It was awful and staff did not care. They offered to waive the resort fee and change our checkout time from 11AM to 1PM. We never got the resort fee back, only billed an additional +$35.00 to a credit card we left on file. Do not know why, we purchased nothing to the room. We have stayed there multiple times and sadly, this may be the last as it seems clear that management has changed. Must have, as a once charming boutique hotel had turned into a sad, location leaving you frustrated you gave it yet one more chance after saying you would not stay there again after our previous time. Which I have not even mentioned, but was even worse, if you can believe it, then this stay. It they cared at all they should have immediately moved us to another room or comp’ed it at the very least. I left there so unhappy. The room ruined our weekend getaway.

I did have a view of the ocean out my window I really enjoy being so close to the water just able to get out and walk just down this little bit of a half a block and go right to the ocean that I truly love. I love the rooftop dining. The experience of a sunset is very special up there.

The ocean was not visible from our room. Although we did have easy access to the beach from the hotel itself. The room was small, but cozy and clean. The restroom was tidy, but no hot/warm water would come out. Overall a decent stay for one night.

Other small things: the room was cleaned, but the bed wasn't made, the TV's remote control did not work properly. The faucet was loose, the fridge in the room was barely cold, and the coffee pot at the breakfast nook by the reception ran out at 9:00 AM. Someone had to look around to find a staff member to fill it. On a good note, we were allowed to stay until noon instead of the usual 11:00 AM checkout.

It should be made very clear that the parking is across the highway. It wasn't made clear. The room they put me in was pretty horrible - the place is obvious need of updates/repairs, and was tiny tiny. There was no heat. The streaming was crappy, buffering half the time. The poor new guy was nice but was too new to be of much help. The heat/fan remote battery was really low so you couldn't make out any of the details. I've heard the restaurant is nice, and the building on the exterior is so pretty. I would NEVER stay here again however. That I only stayed one night. There was fast food a block away.

Room was nice with partial ocean view, loved the surf vibe. The set up was elegant/ up scale. The air conditioning machine was giving me allergies though, seemed a little dusty. But it’s a great spot by the ocean. The roof top bar was something that got me to stay at the place but apparently even with an advantage reservation and being a hotel guest, they won’t prioritize you to be seated.

I also noticed unexpected extra charges on my bill. The amount did not match what Expedia showed at booking, and I was charged additional fees that were never clearly explained. Their website did not mention that the rooftop is closed Monday through Wednesday, so when I went up hoping to use it, it was unavailable. Overall, I cannot recommend this hotel. The experience was stressful rather than relaxing, and the staff’s attitude did not make the situation any better.

Started off by getting in just after midnight so because the front desk closed out for the day they couldn’t complete the check in for us. But still gave us the room keys to stay. Immediately upon entering after a long day/night of working we were greeted by a giant cockroach while trying to eat our dinner. Then spent about 10 minutes trying to kill it. There was always several ants roaming around and found them on our clothes as well. The next morning they called me down and asked me to handle talking to Hotels.com because the check in process didn’t go through properly and they were sure if my card was charged even though I already had one on file. Pretty annoying trying to enjoy my morning and I’m then one who had to do their job. The staff was extremely nice the whole time I have to put that out there. They had beach chairs to use and towels at the beach that’s just steps away from the property. They granted a late check out since we got in so late the night before but after we got back from the beach there was a giant beetle crawling on the ceiling and just more ants on our clothes. So we decided to leave early. It’s a bummer because it’s a great location but for the price and what the rooms are, and the bug issues it’s simply not worth it

I had a lovely stay at La Casa del Camino while celebrating my birthday with a quick, grounding staycation. The staff was incredibly kind, welcoming, and respectful from the moment we arrived. There’s something special about staying at the oldest hotel in Laguna Beach (established in 1929!) — it carries a sense of timeless charm and character you don’t get in modern places. The room was clean and well-maintained. The bed was a bit on the firm side, but overall the facilities were neat and in great condition. One of the best parts was the location — just steps from the beach, which made it perfect for a peaceful early morning walk along the shore. While I didn’t get a chance to enjoy the rooftop due to overcast weather and our short stay, I look forward to doing so on my next visit. I also wish the cantina/restaurant had been open, but I understand that can vary depending on the season. This place is affordably priced, full of character, and supported by a truly wonderful staff. I will definitely be coming back. Thank you, Casa del Camino, for a memorable birthday retreat! —Claudia

This place was in a convenient location. The beach is two houses down from the hotel. It had a rooftop restaurant and the access to that area passed in front of some of the guest rooms. So you could hear conversations as people passed in front of your room. The room was nicely updated and was really well done. Unfortunately there was an odor in the room that did not dissipate and we were told it’s an old facility and they have been trying to rectify it. Staff was awesome, accommodating, friendly and quick to respond to concerns. There was plenty of food options within walking distance and the place had a relaxing vibe. We would stay there again.

My car was tampered and the engine was left on for over night (the thief can’t drive it for the anti-theft set up(. The hotel staff didn’t notify me until 9am. After check-out, no receipt was provided via email while I was told that the receipt of the resort fee will be emailed to me. When I called to follow-up and questioned them about the charges, the rep was rude and said she doesn’t know the charges and that I should call Expedia. For all of the reason above, I would not go back and will not recommend the hotel.

The roof top bar is awesome! There is a restaurant downstairs that we thought of trying but it was completely empty every time we walked by. Our room was on the 3rd floor, which is right above the lobby. One night there was a loud group having a fun time in the lobby. The noise really carries up to the 3rd floor, which made it hard to fall asleep that night. Also, the bed/pillows are not very comfortable. If you are traveling from close by, bring your own pillow! Overall, great stay, we enjoyed it!

Bed was lumpy, sheets were scratchy and old. No hot water one day, no internet available over the whole stay. Alerted the staff with no response.

Parking for the hotel is across the street and a half a block away. The bus stops are within a block. A small beach is a two minute walk from the front door. Keep an eye on small kids as there are rocks off shore. The hotel has live music in the lobby occasionally. It was just a one or two piece ensemble and a nice touch. Check with the hotel to see if anybody is playing while you’re there. There is lots of shopping along the main drag. The Pageant and the Sawdust is a good 2 or 3 miles away. There is parking across the street from the Pageant, which is expensive but good for the day. We were there for the Fourth of July weekend and traffic was heavy, be patient, it does move and dies down in the evening.

Location and price was great. I wasn’t a fan of the parking across the street in a parking lot. But it’s a coastline hotel so I guess limited room to park is expected. The hotel overall is very old, there was a “wet” smell in the room and a “sweat” smell in the bedding and pillows which made it hard for me to sleep. Overall enjoyed our stay and felt safe while there.

I was so disappointed in the room. It was a deferred maintenance night mare: paint chipping, old floor damaged, faucets (both sink and shower) loose from the sink and wall. Furniture chipped. And so on.

This is as our second stay here. The rooftop bar is amazing with views to die for. The cafe downstairs serves up live piano music on Sat night so that was a plus. I like the old decor and atmosphere here. We’ll be back.

Beautiful hotel and great location, but unfortunately that was overshadowed by our uncomfortable experience with some male employees. Our first night, the bartender Chase yelled at us from across the street in a way that felt inappropriate and demeaning. After waiting for awhile to go back to the hotel as to not be yelled at, we walk in the lobby to find Chase swaying back and forth, eyes closed and sucking his fingers. When we walked past, he tried talking to us again and we told him his behavior was inappropriate. He continued to make vulgar remarks as the young man from the front desk sat there, watched and did absolutely nothing. When we addressed it with him the next day, we were met with defensiveness and our concerns were dismissed. The following night, not realizing Chase was a bartender at the hotel, we walk into the bar and realized it was him. We were willing, for the sake of peace, to forget the situation and have a drink. Instead of an apology, he made remarks insinuating we fabricated the situation and it never happened. The behavior from the bartender and young man at the front desk made us feel unsafe, uncomfortable and unsettled. What should have been a relaxing stay became stressful and emotionally draining due to the lack of unprofessionalism. This isn’t just unprofessional, it’s dangerous. We hope management takes this seriously as the hotel has so much potential. No one should feel unsafe at a hotel, especially not by the people being paid to work there.

The wife and I were celebrating our 12th wedding anniversary at this hotel. Our stay was nice our room was a lot nicer than our previous stay in there Spanish room. I had indicated during our reservation that we were celebrating 12 year of marriage and thought that maybe the hotel would offer a glass of champagne or sparkling cider or even some type of appetizer on the roof top bar but nothing. I was a bit disappointed but our overall stay was nice.

Amazing stay for the price. Right at the beach. Resorts charging $600-$700 a night within walking distance so this was definitely a steal. Wish I remembered his name but the bartender/waiter in the downstairs restaurant (they have one on the rooftop as well) was AMAZING. Super friendly, relatable and informative. All around amazing experience. Highly recommend.

Overall it was a good stay at this property. Recently remodeled, super cute inside. The rooftop bar was convenient although the cocktail options were minimal. The bed was not very comfortable though and the surrounding area was not quiet. Was woken up at 5:30am by loud music that went on for an hour. By that time I just ended up staying awake. Also, no coffee maker in the room. The staff was very friendly and helpful though. Definitely pros and cons with this stay.

The room was okay until we went out for the evening and came back and the entire room smelt like sewage they came and poured bleach down the sink. At first they tried to tell us that the hotel was full and they moved us to another room which was okay but not very comfy. Second point is the morning we were checking out they decided to take money off of my credit card for incidentals which should’ve been done at check-in But again had no confirmation that they were even going to take this money

The hotel is charming. The room my friend and I stayed in was small, but comfortable. We spent most of our time in the lobby by the fireplace. The portable AC unit made the rooms smell but the weather outside was perfect just to leave the windows open. The staff was amazing. The room was nice and spacious. The hotel itself is old, the rooms are super small and the walls are thin. There was a night crew doing work on the street, and I could hear early morning conversations through the walls. Not great if you need sleep. Overall, it would be the staff would bring me back to this hotel specifically, as there are other options close by.
