    The room smelt like weed

This hostel is a gem and one of my favorite hotel stays ever. I absolutely loved my stay and could not recommend Olive Hostel more, especially for younger travelers looking to make friends. The community of this hostel is unbelievable--everyone was so kind, welcoming, and friendly, and I made friends from all over the world! It felt like I was staying at a friend's home: everything was so homey and decorated beautifully, and it was incredibly clean and tidy with everything you need. I stayed in the female dorm with a friend and felt completely safe: I'd feel completely comfortable staying here as a solo female traveler. They have lockers with keys where you can store your things, you can rent towels for a low price, and there's a "Honesty bar" where you can buy water, drinks, and snacks. They also have pop up events like yoga on the rooftop in the mornings. The beds were super comfy and we got great sleep. The owner is also the funniest, kindest, and most helpful person ever, we loved her so much! The highlight of our stay was the outdoor living room: at night we all played games together and chatted. 1000/10 experience and could not recommend more. I wish we stayed for longer and will definitely be returning if I come back to Lagos! Upon leaving I noticed that there were ants in the bathroom, but outside of that the hostel was generally very well-kept and tidy. The wifi is very slow and almost unusable, so if you're looking to work from home you might have trouble.

My favorite stay in Portugal! The staff was kind and welcoming, and they organized lovely social dinners that made it easy to meet new people. I stayed in a private room, which was quiet and comfortable. Highly recommended if you’re looking for a great place to connect with others.

The staff was amazing and so helpful. There was always great music being played and the spaces had a nice vibe. Nothing

The owners were warm, helpful, kind, and very friendly. The roof area was really nice! Simply put: one gets what one pays for, and this was just not our kind of place. This hostel is better if one likes communal living, like a college dorm.

The common areas were so cute and the rooftop was lovely! The yoga was such a nice treat. The staff were great and the facilities were clean. The bed was the absolute worst in the private room. I’m in so much pain from sleeping on it. Also my room was tiny and I kept stubbing my toe on the bed frame. The towels were stained.

Location was close to many restaurants, beaches, and supermarkets. The kitchen was well equipped, and there was plenty of space in the fridge. The beds were very comfortable. The shower curtains didn't fully keep the water in the shower so the floor in the bathroom got wet. Otherwise, the toilet and showers were satisfactory.

The interesting decor and garden spaces. Friendly people. Great location. The bed in the Algarve Room could use more pillows.

Very friendly staff. Multiple places to relax, including a wonderful rooftop terrace. Comfortable beds. Shops nearby, everything Lagos has to offer is in walking distance. I stayed in a private room, which is located in an adjacent building. The doors in the building do not soft close so if someone comes home at 3am, the doors of the front door, room and bathroom tend to slam and wake everybody up.

excellent location, clean facilities, cozy vibe with various hang out spots, fully stocked kitchen, art station, pantry storage for dry goods, bunk curtains, lockers outside of room helped keep sleeping area quiet, rooftop had various seating areas and hammock, liked the chill low music playing and the natural fragrance in main hallway with low lighting. wifi didn't work in room and spotty elsewhere

The place has several lounge areas that encourage folks to talk and share. Not the hostels fault, but my shared room had one person who smelled terrible and we had to sleep with door and windows open in order to breath.

EVERYTHING. The best hostel I’ve ever stayed in. The staff were wonderful and welcoming, the place felt like home and created such a wonderful atmosphere to meet and connect with other travellers. They have yoga, a snack bar, and cute and cosy shared spaces. I plan to return and would recommend this place to anyone. There is something very very special about Olive hostel. Nothing

Warm welcome by staff who are helpful and friendly. Dorm fine, clean, comfortable beds, light and charge point plus locker. Can store luggage for free after check out. Well equipped kitchen, excellent location in old town and several common areas to meet nice fellow travellers. Atmosphere great. outside noise in early hours when partygoers head home can disturb sleep, so bring ear plugs, but that apart everything fine.

Comfortable and homey Very cramped and small common areas

  • Engine customer Sep 2025

Excellent location with a really fun design of the property and nice staff. The hardest bed I’ve ever slept on in my life in one of the private rooms in #69. Cricked my neck and still have back pain two days later. Shower did not have hot water for two days, but it was eventually resolved.

The common areas were very nice. The bathroom had a funny smell. The room was very small little place to put our bags. Our room opened to the small outdoor space so little privacy and no breeze.

the cozy home feeling vibe, how nice and helpful the staff were and the location Very loud front door

  • Engine customer Aug 2025
